Comments of Exeter General Store
V. W.
This place is fantastic - so quaint and they serve great coffee and delicious food. They added a lovely courtyard too - a great place to sit and watch the world go by. The striped umbrellas are so cute. The staff are always courteous and the menu is always offering something quirky - like whisky porridge (which was deeelicious!)

This cafe is so lovely! Very cosy and cute (with the wall of books). Excellent coffee and service and the brunch was wonderful. Thank you!
N. J.
A very cute cafe across the road from the train station in a charming old building. Good hearty modern cafe food. Solid coffee options, extensive food menu and lots of boutique groceries from around the area. We loved our shakshuka breakfast, it was very tasty.
A. K.
Very welcoming and prompt service.
Our group of 12 were very well looked after. Very relaxed atmosphere also
with the kids all day ABC channel a terrific idea!
G. W.
Love that they serve Toby's Estate coffee and yes - is very popular with anyone in the area. Food is good and reasonably priced but they do sell out of their fresh baked pies quickly. Cute and country - definitely worth stopping in if passing by.
L. H.
Cutest little cafe! Food and coffee pretty good. Lots of veggie options including a pulled eggplant, veggie burger and lentil curry. Adventurous menu, with the food being quite good. Some a little bland but lots of points for interesting flavours and presentation. Lovely setting with a bookshelf for a wall which you can actually purchase second hand books from.
M. V. T.
Best bacon and eggs I've ever had! This is such a great place for a meal. The place is laid back and relaxing, the staff are friendly, the food is delicious and best of all it's very fairly priced! If you're in the area, you'd be crazy not to stop in here - whether it's for breakfast, lunch, or even just a sneaky coffee and tasty treat.
R. T.
Loved it. A real taste of country living. Great breakfast served there. Try their sough dough bread.
J.
My wife and I went here for both breakfast and lunch over the weekend.
The food was fresh, healthy and delicious with a home cooked feel to it. The coffee and chia were delightful. Staff were polite and service was fast. Definitely come back here again.
S. A.
Busy at lunchtimes!
You can get almost everything at this historic and local general store. The pies are as good to look at as they taste!
Not much else available in town so if you are in Exeter, you are likely to stop here. It's located 8km off the Hume Highway and a nice drive past wineries along Sallys corner Rd.
A lot of indoor seating although of a lunchtime this gets busy.
J. C.
Went here on the weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Staff were attentive and friendly. food and coffee were good. Beautiful part of the Southern Highlands, worth a look if you're in the area
D. T.
Exeter, quaint little village. Great cafe, excellent coffee, would recommend.
P. W.
Super busy cafe, deli and post office. Food is okay and since this is the only gig in town, well, just not much choice. I had a lamb salad, which had competing flavors. My husband had the house made pie which was he described as ok. Good service and friendly staff.
J. K.
Best breakfast around, wonderful coffee and service. Lose the app menu though.
F. R.
Great little store in a beautiful little town. Excellent service from very friendly staff
Coffee and food are great
Worth a stop in
L. L.
Gorgeous place. Cosy dining cafe. I had a divine cinnamon scroll and great coffee here. It is the local store and it has a few grocery items, a post office and a lovely second hand book wall. All books $4. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is outdoor seating. Have been back during my stay and will be again before I leave. Great little place.
S. N.
Beautiful place to eat, friendly staff and prompt service.
A. A.
Enjoyed the food & coffee. Great outdoor seating with our dog. Highly recommended to try their Pistou soup.
J. F.
We visited here a number of times when our donkeys were evacuated to Exeter and it’s a really good spot. The coffee is good, cinnamon swirls fantastic and the cafe is stylish.
D. L.
Fantastic local general store servicing Exeter, there's books, local fruit and veg, fine foods and homemade products. There's tables everywhere; even a post office next to the cafe. Dog friendly area outside and more tables. Great food and service from staff and Toby's estate coffee made very well 👌
B. M.
Has character and a nice ambience. Coffee is great.
N. N.
Great coffee
Awesome friendly staff
Breakfast was fantastic
Worth the stop
Thanks for a great way to start the day
f. c.
Better service than I have come to expect in the district. The food was good, too, even if restrictions meant we had to take it away in a paper bag and eat it in the park opposite!
D. H.
Good food.Great atmosphere &friendly staff.
G. R.
Great food on a cold chilly day. Friendly service too. Check the daily specials menu boards as some interesting dishes appear.
P. W. P.
Excellent breakfast location, hard to imagine getting any better food in a working post office. Quirky place worth a visit.
S. M.
We visited on Sunday morning and the place was packed, a great friendly atmosphere. Good quality scones and coffee.
P. M.
A really good feed; outdoor area is both dog and baby friendly with high chairs on hand. Friendly staff and convenient location. Ticks all the boxes!
R. M.
Charming little cafe, store and post office in one, in a lovely town.
We ordered the prawn pasta and chorizo and a bacon and egg roll. It was so fresh and delicious, one of the tastiest bacon and eggs rolls I can remember having.
The service was very friendly and they had implemented considered social distancing practices.
T. H.
Best place for breakfast for us on the last day of our holiday. Everything was lovely. Service and food excellent. Loved the atmosphere, friendly and inviting. Highly recommended.
P. F.
Lovely spot for lunch. Friendly, efficient service. Coffee was great, Steak Sandwich was good, Prawn & Chorizo Pasta was sensational! Nice work
S. R.
The actual place is nice and so are the staff they were lovely. However the food was bland and tasteless. The burnt pancakes that i received as takeaway left me feeling nauseous.
E. J.
Post office / cafe / bookshop, all in one from what I could tell. Bustling little place in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. Coffee was great, staff were friendly, service was prompt. Plenty of seating both inside and outdoors. Didn't order any food but the pies that were on display looked really delicious. I'll be coming back here on an empty stomach to sample the goods!
m. t.
Ordered a beef and mushroom pie as advertised on their specials board.
Waiter said ok but delivered a dried up chicken pie.Even the carrots were ordinary.
Service was just ok on a very slow Sunday.
L. F.
Popular coffe shop with good selection of meals
J. H.
Lovely! And so popular we had to sit outside on a cool windy day. But it was worth it. I had avocado smashed onto rye bread (delucious) and my husband had a toasted sandwich with pumpkin. He really enjoyed it. We're organising for my sister to meet us there soon, it's halfway between us.
K. S.
A lovely little cafe in the middle of Exeter. Gorgeous atmosphere, friendly staff, all your food essentials plus an entire wall of books just $4 each. Cosy and comfortable, highly recommend
C. C.
I've been a couple of times in last few weeks. Food is delicious and well presented. Fab service. One point loss for delays in payment but that's more to do with internet blackspot.
J. M.
Excellent coffee, friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere!
The General Store is a great place to stop for a bite if you're taking the back-roads through the Southern Highlands. The sandwiches on display looked very yummy!
The wall of second-hand $4 books is most impressive.
And if you need the services of a Post Office, this is the place to go when in Exeter!
D. S.
Great little place, fresh produce in the big brekky was excellent. Coffee is good and the whisky porridge has a subtle kick. It's nice that you can also buy local produce, cookbooks etc
K. R.
Had a very enjoyable lunch here. My lamb plate was delicious and the other members of my party enjoyed their food also. Loved the quirky layout too.
J. V. (.
Good coffee and banana bread! Shop has a few selective grocery items - worth a stop.
E. L.
It was so good to be able to get out and enjoy a drive to the Highlands. The staff were very welcoming and the chicken burger I had was delicious
C.
What a great place. Along with a three-year-old and a five-year-old, we arrived on a drizzly and windy, Autumn Sunday morning to the cosy, warm confines of the General Store. Our hostess was so welcoming to us and the children, quickly finding a place in The Nook -- an even cosier corner, with lots of cushions and toys for the children to play with. The food arrived in very good time and is superb -- Eggs Benedict amongst the best ever had and the surprising Breakfast Bowl, filled to the brim with healthy ingredients. Not our first time at the General Store and sure to become a more regular destination for us.
M. P.
Lovely lunch good service great coffee reasonable price
D. M.
The breakfast here is simple and execellent. Their locally sourced produce that goes into their meals is second to none. My favourite part of this place is the community that they create with it, with all employees on the wall for you to recognise, and their mottos of community and acceptance around the shop make this place a must eat at when down in the souther highlands, especially if you're staying in Exeter.
K. L.
Simple, friendly, delicious dishes. And we found they are selling our favourite chocolate powder here too.
A. T.
Lovely sandwiches and pies in a pleasant General Store setting in this delightful village. And plenty to read too from their huge book collection. I like taking my mum here!
J. B.
Great coffee, good food and lovely friendly service. Totally worth stopping by for morning tea or lunch. There's a nice little outdoor area so dogs are welcome too.
T. C.
Hidden gem in the Highlands countryside. They stock Toby's Estate coffee, T2 tea and the lunch menu is exceptional. Had the most amazing chicken, halloumi, quinoa and kale salad and wanted to buy several takeaways!
D. B.
The only good thing about being a chauffeur for my daughter and her horse riding friends is that having dropped them at ACE Riding at 8.30 am I can head to this place for a wonderful breakfast! The only issue is the average age of the punters - too many of those greedy baby boomers have retired to the Southern Highlands and now hang out here for their breakfast! If you can't beat them - join them! Maybe they will choke on their sourdough!
C. M.
Beautiful bacon and eggs and great service. We stopped by for breakfast on our way to a chestnut picking day in the area and would definitely return. Read more on our blog ChopinandMysaucepan.
K. L.
Fab atmos and character. Covid aware totally. Great coffee and best scrambled eggs for ages.
A. M.
Hidden away in the small town of Exeter is this gem. Part shop, part post-office, part-cafe, the cafe side of things was great. My lunch was very good, and the scones amazing. Highly recommend.
T. N.
Very nice food! Very nice coffee. Love the vibes.
A. S.
Went for breakfast. Different and delicious menu items. Pretty good coffee and great service for a place threats always busy.
J.
Exeter General store is just pure amazing right next to a railway track small kids love watching the freight trains go by. Exeter General Store even has post office part of it with Po boxes and a place where you can send stuff! Fav food from here: The brioche custard rolls!
N. L.
I've never seen so many dogs in one store (that wasn't a pet store)! Possibly more canine customers than human. Very happy, relaxed atmosphere and delicious, if overpriced food.
A. W.
Good place to grab a bite and drink. Had a delicious banana bread, cappuccino and lemon ginger tea, thanks.
l. m.
Great seating area inside and out. Brilliant service with great food and beverages. Coffee and the pie were the highlights.
K. B.
Amazing food and coffee. Friendly staff and prompt service. Def recommend the eggs benny for breaky and the winter bliss for lunch
J. B.
Great food. Fabulous atmosphere. Interesting specialty products.
G. P.
Nice food, nice coffee, a selection of teas and you can sit outside and enjoy the peace and quite if you want to avoid the air conditioning.
G. C.
Great food and great service - all easily completed via a contactless system.
F. V. (.
Really yummy foods and coffee, but a little bit too expensive. Still nice place to stop and relax a bit!
S. M.

R. A.
Lovely place. Great coffee and cakes. Friendly and accommodating staff.
C.
Definitely worth stopping here for breakfast if you are in the area. Better still, drive extra 10 mins to have breakfast here instead of MacDonals on the highway.
E. M.
Really good food and very friendly service.
B. K.
Small town but best in the town
J. G.
