Very good coffee and bread was filling. Made with love and friendly staff. Love the ambience of the place very quiet and peaceful. Sad not many customers due to covid. Really nice place to hang out or take away food coffee. Definitely will come back If I'm in town.

The coffee is good, as you would expect at a specialty coffee shop run by Sample (you may know their St Peter’s store), but for us what stood out was the cool vibe and architectural space. In the back streets of Chippendale is the cafe inside an old confectionary store which once housed MacRobertsons confectionary. These were the makers of Australia’s oldest chocolate bar, the Cherry Ripe and the cafes namesake, Old Gold.
The cafe appears a haunt for architects, hipsters, cyclists, and anyone in the know for good coffee. Head into the converted factory space and you’ll notice exposed brick walls, dark interiors and exposed pipes in an industrial styled space. As you enter, you’re met with some trendy and fun guys behind the counter pouring out some coffees from the La Marzocco KB90 espresso machine which dominates the counter (and the little block of old gold chocolate on the bench is a nice touch).
Whether you’re after a single origin espresso, these are on rotation, a batch brew or ‘Sweet Tooth' for a milk based coffee, they pour a good drop. There’s also tea by Teacraft, hot chocolate and sofas for the non coffee drinkers.
Food wise, the menu is short but all you need for a quick bite with your coffee. Bruschetta with avocado or baked beans, three cheese toasties or rice pudding porridge to give an idea. Kurt gets their brekkie roll with poached egg, oozing with the egg yolk, this burger made all the better with the soft potato hash inside, fermented Chili aioli, salsa verde kale and cheddar. It’s a great burger a recommended choice.
We really like Old Gold, but it’s hard for us to visit since it’s only open weekdays. We will be back next time we get a a day off.

Really really good coffee, if not one of the best piccolo I've had for a while.
I also had a slaw and pickle with cheese pannini (take away) and again, exceeded all my expectation. Super tasty fillings served in a good portion size baguette.
Will probably come back tomorrow despite 2 teething issues below:
1. The pannini was put in a brown paper bag for takeaway which is fine, until all the juice started leaking in my bag. Would be nice to have it wrapped in some sort of white paper lining to prevent it from happening again.
2. When paying, there's no sign to indicate that there's surcharge with card payments. Only found out when checking my bank account that surcharge has been added. Not a big deal but would prefer to be told in advance.

Loved the rustic contemporary decor of this open space. The coffee shop is at the ground level of a co-worker space that is filled with warm yellow lights, black metals and glass. This space is a renovated building from an old chocolate factory. Excellent coffee with nice staff.

Exceptionally good coffee here. A cut above the rest in Chippo.

Amazing coffee and proper coffee people. Highly recommend the cold brew. Location is a little difficult to find, I think it’s possible to go into the building via the Cleveland St entrance.

Such a great hidden gem! Consistently excellent coffee, quick service, and chill staff. It's easy to socially distance there as well.
