Oooft! This is a new favourite for sure. I don’t know why it took me so long to try this place out. The location and atmosphere were great but the food stole the show. We had the breakfast burger (with cheese) which was no where near as heavy as I thought it would be (in a good way). We also had a pretty unique dish (which I forget the name of).
I’d 100% recommend this place and will definitely be back.

This is quite a popular cafe in Surry Hills, always people go there. The food and the ☕ here are not bad. We ordered the burrito 🌯 and shakshuka (bake soft eggs, Mexican version) and added bacon. I really enjoyed the burrito, its very nice. The shakshuka is not bad either, but the added bacon was really nice and crispy. We also tried two new dishes today, lamb taco and fried chicken basket. Both are very nice also, the food here are very different to alot of standard cafes we went to. Today we there for lunch again, so I added some more pics.
😊 ☕ and eating 😋

Great roaster and coffee place. The decor is nice, narrow with two tiny outside tables on one hand, and an open front in the morning sun in Albion Way. Coffee was delicious. I had a piccolo with their House Blend #18 and an espresso with a Guatemalan single origin, Rigalito 3. I especially liked the espresso and bought some beans.

Reuben Hills is a boutique micro roastery based in Surry Hills which has been in operation since January 2012.
Their team travels around the world to producing countries (origin), meeting the farmers, cupping their coffees and selecting beans, so they can provide customers with coffee that was sourced directly from farmers, celebrating their work and introducing their coffees to the western world.
I had the pleasure to taste a flat white with oat milk and their house blend first. I then deep dived into a limited edition Panama 🇵🇦 geisha from Finca La Esmeralda and finished with a washed Ethiopian double espresso, grown by smallholders.
Again! I am fascinated that smallholders can easily match the in cup profile of rock star producers 🪄.
Thank you for the extra shot and the great hospitality from the barista team ❤️

A true classic cafe. Their menu hasn’t changed much over the last few years, cause the Latin American inspired menu is full of bangers. My go to is the huevos divorciados or the fried chicken basket. The salsa verde with the huevos is particularly nice. Nice that they stock Yulli’s beers here.
Their coffee is great, and I’ve enjoyed brewing it at home as well :)
They also serve some boss pastries from their sister brand AP bakery. Some stellar stuff - the pistachio apricot tart is so good. One day I’ll try their honey macadamia croissant….

I had a sensational 'autumn salad' and a very good coffee. It's an uber cool, buzzy space. One waiter was rude and made me feel like an inconvenience. He did his best to avoid my attempts to order. The other waiter was an absolute delight. She was charming and friendly.
A. B.
Seated near the entrance and had to get up out of our seats to go to the back where most of the service was, to order. Told that we would be served and sat back down but yet still waited a while despite the cafe not being that busy. Otherwise food was pretty decent.
G. Y.
The food that I ordered will be the fantastic and wonderful feeling for the people who enjoy spicy and sour, but I m the person who doesn’t like chili, three shot long black so good! I love black coffee at here.
C. K.
What we ordered:
1. Ginger Turmeric Latte (with almond milk)
2. Esmeralda Panama Geisha (limited edition)
3. Banana cake
All good! We liked the interior as well. Nothing specific but everything just belongs.
M. T.
Fantastic food, always a queue but I s'pose that's a good thing. Pic is of the 'overnight coconut'. A bit like bircher, lots of delicious summer fruits.
S. M.
Really nice cafe for brunch. Their baked eggs with chorizo are delicious.
K. C.
The whipped ricotta and honey toast. My god, divine. Quality gluten free bread and lovely service to boot. Looking forward to my next visit as the rest of the menu looked very enticing.
M. S.
Great coffee, service and food. I ordered the smashed avo with a dash of Mardi Gras to go with it - what's not to love?

The decor in Reuben Hills is unique, with a dark and sleek kind of vibe with a touch of industrial chic. Great lighting and it’s spaced so that it is very long rather than wide. I found the coffee I ordered, an almond cappuccino, to be a bit different from other cafes - might been the way they frothed the milk? But it had a tangy and slight bitter aftertaste which I did not personally enjoy - but others might. The food was decent and I found my shakshuka good but not up to the standard for the price that I had paid for. Highlight of the place, in my opinion, is the overall atmosphere and ambiance.

An industrial designed, comfortable place to relax and eat nice food! We went there around 12 and didn’t wait for too long. They let the sunlight in through the back door(?)without opening their light, but the place was still bright enough. The waitress was friendly and nice when I didn’t understand the English on the menu(sorry about that). We had Dirty Chicken and Baked eggs with jacon. The spice tastes good in the baked eggs and was delicious tipping with the bread. The dirty chicken is an burger, and the chicken was good. We also had coffee, a honey brewed one? It was really good!
S. K.
Visited over the long weekend, and I absolutely loved this place. Great coffee, nice vibe, and amazing food. Also bought a kilo of fresh beans and I love them. Will definitely visit again and I’d highly recommend if you want yummy brunch 😋
N. J.
Fantastic coffee and super tasty food at Reuben Hills. I love how their menu is inspired by their trips to Central and South America. We had the chicken torta, not Reuben and chia puddding. Everything was sensational! The chicken torta was quite spicy and saucy, also very messy, but was a delight to eat! Can’t wait to return.
M. T.
Very hip cafe with good quality coffee and great basic brunch items. The baked eggs was really tasty and something I would recommend ordering. Chips were also worth getting, but the smash burger was pretty overpriced for its value. The only criticism I have is that the music is very loud.
S. B.
Amazing all day (mainly breakfast/brunch oriented) menu! Fab coffee, great amount of space so even when crowded I didn't feel scrunched it.
A. R.
Lovely staff, nice atmosphere.
Sitting at the back of the cafe next to the open roller door is the best seat in the house.
Only downside was the amount of customers wearing socks and sandals.
A. W.
Great coffee but non-caffeinated beverages are weak and flavourless. Had the fried chicken basket and the huevos divorciardos. Both are solid.
T. M.
Great coffee and often hearty food (a few Latin American dishes on the menu). Buzzy Surry Hills atmosphere. Recommend.
P. L.
Finally had a chance to try this on New Years Day 1/1/2018! Waited a little under half an hour but probably due to being one of the only places open on that day. Coffee was alright, we ordered takeaway coffee while we waited for our seats. The cappuccino was a little too milky but the latte was fine.
Food came to our tables quick service was good and the food was really good but also depends on your taste.
The “not so Reuben” sandwich was amazing! A few slices of wagyu and some cabbage slaw gave it a crunchy bite then you taste the wagyu just completely melting in you mouth.... wonderful experience!
The omelette sandwich looked interesting, and tasted good, but the prawn crackers on the side confused me 🤷♂️.
Finally the fried chicken with a side of pickled chillies was really yummy. The lightly seasoned fried chicken didn’t taste oily at all and the chillies accompanied it giving a nice kick to the dish. The tortilla was soft and chewy which is nice depending on your taste again.
My friend got the Rhubarb Soda which was nice and my girlfriend on the other hand got this lemony citrus drink! It was sour and it was awesome!
All in all a good first experience, will definitely return for the wagyu beef sandwich again!
D. G.
Lovely café with very good food and coffee and some not-so-common menu items. Friendly staff and very dog friendly (canine entry through the rear lane).
Y. K.
One of my favourite spots in Sydney!
Great atmosphere perfect for either a quick coffee or a for a breakfast break.
I am usually not a big fan of smoothies because of my dairy intolerance and ingredients that it contains, but may I just say, this handmade vegan "Coffee Smoothie" is so damn good - amazingly light and very nutritious. Highly recommend to swing by this place if you are nearby 👌

We've been to Reuben Hills plenty of times and always thoroughly enjoy it for a quality cup of coffee and unique menu.
Reuben Hills is a micro roastery with a street front cafe. They sell products in store as well as wholesale. It's a trendy little space with exposed bring walls, dim lighting and friendly and approachable hipster staff.
During these Covid19 times, they're doing an all day menu for eat in (max 10 diners) and takeaway. Their menu is interesting and has a unique take on your favourites, with a South American twist, and the all day dining options are varied. On previous visits, we also liked the huevos divorciados and baked eggs.
Today, we enjoyed the polenta porridge cooked in almond and macadamia milk, topped with rhubarb and granola. This makes it a vegan, vegetarian and dairy free meal. The polenta gives it an interesting texture and the toppings flavour it nicely. Reasonably priced at $12.
Kurt loved the BROKEN OMELETTE ROLL with fried shrimp, omelette and bacon jam on a milk bun with rocket and a side of prawn crackers.
The coffee is always good, whether it be a milk based, filter, espresso or cold brew. They also do tea, chai, sodas and shakes (why not try their oreo or salted caramel shake).
It's probably a good time to pay them a visit whilst it's a bit quieter than usual or even grab yourself takeaway. Also selling pantry staples if you're in need of anything
T. L.
Been here so many times, same good coffee. The food menu a little old and soft baked eggs is overcooked today. Hopefully the menu will update soon.
M. M.
This is my number one place for coffee in Sydney, variety of many coffee beans from the world available all the time. Food is very much different than in regular cafes, tasty with interesting flavours. But what makes this place so popular is great service from amazing staff working there. Their friendly attitude makes you feel welcomed every time!
C. T.
Good coffee and we loved our food today. Staff were friendly as well. Not meant to be a kid friendly place but our young one still managed to sit on the bench and eat with us. Loved the vibe as always. Didn’t take photo of the chicken broth but it was nice and hearty.
A. B.
Managed to get a table immediately which was great as we were told it’s really busy at the weekends. Got the Huevos divorciados with avocado. The food was nice apart from one of the eggs not being cooked enough. See egg on the right hand said is clear around the yoke. Has to scrap it off and I’ve been put off eggs now for a long time. No staff came back to ask if the food was ok.
Got the single origin hot chocolate which was really yummy though.
D. M.
Amazing food and coffee, really great. If you’re coming into central, very short walk and well worth the trip. Would say it’s on the expensive side, but the food is very good. Would say the filter coffee was slightly bitter and possibly better served in a decanter, but that’s just my preference.
E. M.
2021: 3.5 stars - good vibe, friendly staff, terribly overpriced.
2020: 4 stars - it was very crowded but the staff were friendly and the wait wasn't too long. Delicious coffee as always but I wasn't at all impressed with the Honduran baleada, it was just so bland. And $8 extra for half a chorizo really gets on my nerves, but it was the only thing with any flavour so I'm glad I got it. I could make this better at home for much less.
2017: 5 stars - Good vibe, industrial-chic decor, delicious food and coffee & friendly service. Highly recommend!
A. B.
Delicious smart food - the fried chicken basket was full of tasty, moist well seasoned chicken, what really made it is the spicy mayo. Chicken could have been a bit crispier but makes up for it with the thin coating.
Coffee was hard to beat, excellent milk & single origin. At $5.50 for an expresso, a bit on the pricey end but worth a try while you're here.
k. f.
We had the not-a-reuben and baked eggs, both were very delish anf full of flavor. Yum!! The hand pour coffee didn't disappoint. So happy we came here for breakfast to start our day.
A. B.
Great coffee and good food. I was happy to see several vegetarian options.
This place was extremely popular and does not take bookings, so get there early or be prepared for a wait.
J.
Cool space and good coffee, been a few times. Food was pretty disappointing though and expensive for what it is. The scram was pretty uninspiring compared to what’s around. Avo was $6 add on and tasted old.
K. K.
Just landed from traveling 15 hours from LAX and our local friend took us here. AMAZING choice. The food was outstanding and the pour over coffee was exactly what we needed to stay awake the rest of the day.
P. Z.
Come here for the coffee and vibe. From sourcing coffee beans to roasting in-house and extracting the goodness into a cup, Reuben Hills are the best and in my top 3 best cafes in Sydney. Lacks value in the food and service can be a little slow so misses that perfect score.
S. R.
Chorizo Roll - Malteaser Shake
Yummm! A different take on your standard egg n bacon roll. Loved the addition of slaw and the shake was a delicious malt flavour!
M.
A little taste of South America. We shared the tostadas with eggs and salsa which reminded me of my travel times in SA :). However as per previous reviews, it's overpriced, one veg plate at $19 plus a weekend surcharge of $1.5 plus card surcharge on top of that!
F. F.
Incredible breakfast - I loved every bite. Their cold brew coffee is amazing, too, and they have it on tap. People who are a bit noise-sensitive might want to ask whether they can be seated closer to the back entrance as the front can be quite loud. Overall, a wonderfully stylish and culinarily superb café. Hands down, such a good spot for your weekend brunches 🤩 ps. The only negative part is that they also use straws as so many other cafés, which I think is just so unneeded. At least they were paper ones...
C. C.
Pretentious cafe fitted into a dimly lit garage style space. Interesting variety of in-house blends and brunch menu. Expect to pay $20 + per person, given that the coffee costs $5.50 a cup (for batch brew, filter and espresso; the most I’ve ever paid in Australia). If it’s busy keep exploring Surrey Hills, plenty of cafes in the vicinity.
C. H. (.
This is a great innovative menu that would be hard to find elsewhere. We were able to be seated after a 15 min wait. I enjoyed my burrito which isn’t that large of a serving.
S. L.
The coffee was nice and the vibe of the whole place is just chilled, perfect for a Sunday brunch. But the food is quite pricey and they have an extra 10% surcharge on weekends. The staff is friendly and overall a very good experience.
J. K.
This lovely cafe has all the charm and beauty that one expects from the modern Surry Hills experience. Serving a wide variety of favourites along with a proper coffee, it's a beautiful venue that has everything you want to waste away a lazy Sunday. Please note there is usually a line out the door so if you want to beat the rush you are best served getting there a smidge early at around 9am. It also means you can be the first one to grab the puzzle pages in the newspaper.
K. C.
Reuben Hills has been a major player in the brunch market of Surry Hills still drawing crowds to this day. There's a variety of food from basic flavours to the more adventurous flavour combinations. Coffee here is always exceptional and makes it worth the wait.
A. M.
Anyone who has passed this place is interested, and with good reason. Reuben Hills offers a well thought out menu in a buzzing location with a perfect cross-breeze.
Book ahead if you want to get in as a group, and maybe ask for a touch more honey on the gorgeous whipped ricotta toast. The staff are quick and considerate. Stay if you can, take away if you're rushing.
W. L.
Nice joint for coffee n bites. I had soy flat white, was a lil disappointed when it came without art but then they explained that they dont do it when its with soy milk. Thats ok because I loved the coffee! wish it was bigger! (I ordered a large)
J. C.
After all these years of coming back here from melbourne, it is still my go to. Baked eggs with chorizo, Rueben salad, tortilla with beans and great coffee. We were lucky to snap up a Saturday brunch table on walking in and the food came out real fast. Thanks a blast
J. N.
Had a beautiful breakfast and great coffee at the iconic surrey hills. Had baleada for the first time and it was great option for vegetarian diet.
D. C.
Nothing much to complain nor praise about the food. It’s good but not mind blowing and different, I’ve definitely had other food from different cafes in Sydney which were a lot more innovative. Coffee is well-made. Price-wise, a lil overpriced for the ingredients and difficulty in making the dish as compared to other cafes. I came on a Monday afternoon, so seats were not an issue. Atmosphere is industrial, but not too pretentious. Love the area nearer to the back alley. I know a couple of the reviews did complain about service, thankfully I did not have to experience horrible service. There were plenty of staff but not very attentive and welcoming either. But nothing worth making a fuss over. Overall, decent place!

Reuben hills
The Cappuccino was spot on, the wagyu brisket sandwich was very tasty, the atmosphere was nice.
Portion sizes are a bit on the fancy side which is not necessarily a bad thing but different from what I'm used to.
All in all It's a good place worth the visit just don't go there starving like I did or you'll be spending a bit more than expected 👍
J. I.
Was this place worth the 10 minute wait, not for the coffee that's for sure. But the quinoa porridge was on point. Not only did it look pretty but it tasted really good.
The place itself is charming and the staff that served us were super sweet.
J. M.
Food is very yummy, they are able to really make gluten-free alternatives too. Service is good. The vibe of the place is very Melbourne and it's great for brunch.
R.
machine : la marzocco strada ep
grinder : mahlkonig ek43, mazzer robur
roasting machine : probat UG
coffee : reuben hills
brew method : espresso, marco
too bad i cant see the roastery, but i love their cappucino, very lovely atmosphere, looking forward to come here again.
Y. Y.
Best soft baked eggs ever!! Chic indoor decorations. They also sell coffee beans, tees, books and tote bag. Nice place for having a brunch over the weekend.
J. B.
Popular thus busy, the coffee is ok but not great; Espresso was a bit thin and lacked body.
Tried the Not Reuban sandwich which was ok.
Staff are friendly and efficient.
K.
Generally nice food and coffee, smaller serving sizes, especially with the burrito. Personally I find the coffee the most appealing thing about Reuben Hills. It’s typically a 20 min wait, however food comes very very unexpectedly fast.
L. M.
Probably the best brunch in Sydney. It is really impressive how they churn out quality dishes and coffee for the masses. Note their public holiday and weekend surcharges if cost is a factor.
S. N.
Had the breakfast burrito and it was absolutely amazing! Bit pricey but expected due to its location. Highly recommend!
A. K.
Great cafe - with great food. Menu is not your stock standard - many interesting dishes with a Sth American/Latin influence. The Not Reuben sandwich was delicious. It was busy on a Sunday late morning, but only had to wait 10 mins for a table. Great coffee as well. I'll be back...
N. W.
Ordered the Huevos Divorciados with Chorizo, meals came up fast and well presented and wa, and an Almond milk flat white. The dish was delicious with a nice mix of flavours, certainly a very unique take for brunch/breakfast then the usual smash avocados and corn fritters we have in Australia. The serving was also a good size. It was a weekend so there was 10 percent extra bringing the coffee and the dish to approx $34 , a tad pricey but I suppose that's Surry Hills prices. Would come back again for the highly recommended Poached Pears..
G.
Nice feed, the Rueben was amazing and the lamb barbacoa taco WAS SO DELICIOUS
M. F.
Overall menu was good. I just have to bring up the seats though, like there’s an area with cemented seats and honestly it hurts when you’ve been seating for 30 minutes or more. Serves good coffee and staff are very welcoming.
L. W. (.
Coffee was pretty good and I chose their home made almond milk. Also had the vegan porridge which was nice too
E. S.
Really pleasant coffee in a great location. I got a delicious breakfast style burrito. Unfortunately the place was a bit expensive (eg $6 extra for avo) and it ran out of chorizo.
Doesn't split bills :(
P. W.
I make a point of having at least one breakfast or brunch here whenever I'm in Sydney. Food and coffee are all great. It gets very busy though so come early or be prepared to wait on weekends. Personal favourite is the "not" reuben sandwich made with wagyu grade beef.
N. M.
Great food & perfect latte. I loved my brunch
- Scram on Rye with side of confit salmon with chipotle aioli & lime.
G. W.
Funky industrial design with great coffee and food. Large facility. Easy parking. Opens early for a quality breakfast.
L.
One of my favorite cafes in Sydney, only wish the Salmon Tostada would make a come back!! Their cold brews are the bomb
A. O.
Really nice cafe with lots of seating options and great atmosphere. I had the salmon salad dish was lovely. Def recommend checking it out
M. A.
Good location nice vibes, a lot of people recommended the coffee here but I think there are far better places in city, didn’t like the test and milk foam disappeared very quickly with a lot of Bubbles
C.
Gluten Free Boneless Fried Chicken.
Spectacular. Everything you imagine the perfect fried chicken to be, without being a plate of oil.
Delivered promptly, cheerfully, and reasonably $19.5 priced for a sit down in the area.
Best in the entire State of NSW.
👍🏻👍🏻
Ps phoebe is a sweetie
H.
One of the best in town. Specialty coffee and gourmet creative brunch menu. Casual industrial space with elegant furnitures. Friendly staff. High but reasonable prices.
T. D.
food was nice, server was attentive, tables can be small but are fine for just coffee - ordered a pizza which was quite burnt on the base and crusts… like black… but apart from that it’s cute
K. L.
Great atmosphere, super attentive staff. Great menu options (vegan and gluten free available).
J. T.
Food was nice but nothing spectacular. Little pricy for what you get. $54 for breakfast for two and we still left a little hungry.
i. h. l. V.
Accomodating to a fault, very happy to find my partner and I seats; food great; coffee great.
c. s.
Amazing food in an unexpected place! The service was quite awesome with super friendly staff!try it and it won't let u down
Y. K.
Great place for breakfast. They have lots of different recipes in the menu where you can definitely find your type. A drawback of the place is not accepting reservations for breakfast in the weekend. Yet, it is a good place to have brekkie in the morning with couple of friends. Staff are usually friendly but service could become slow within peak hours.
M. K.
The best baked eggs I've ever had! The tangy richness of the tomato and the creaminess of the goats curd make this dish unbeatable. Without fail, my bowl is wiped clean with the bread, which I have never done with any other dish in my life. I keep coming back for these eggs. The coffee is also delicious.
J.
Cool space and good coffee, been a few times. Food was pretty disappointing though and expensive for what it is. The scram was pretty uninspiring compared to what’s around. Avo was $6 add on and tasted old.

Good coffee and amazing place 😍👌🏻
J. D.
Coffee on point!! Food was good but was expecting excellent for the price.
l. s.
I don’t know what’s wrong with the 🍟...hard to chew…but everything else is as good as always.🥰
T. H.
Scram on toast with bacon and avo. It's doesn't get any better. Superb.

Nested in a quieter area of Surry hills. Mexican brunch and yummy coffee. Nom nom
L. H.
We love having breakfast at Reuben Hills!
The coconut overnight oats are one of my favourite breakfast dishes ever. They’re so good!
Service is always super friendly.
Playlist is always on point too.
M. S.
We ate here 3 years ago on a trip to Sydney and returned last week again! It stuck in my memory as having a cool relaxed vibe, good coffee and good food.
Our return trip was equally as good!
J. M.
Great staff and amazing all day food.
Mexican style. Delicious.
S. H.
great ambience, nice restroom, great service, fantastic beef sandwiches and baked eggs. their coffee was above average! would definitely head back again.
N. G.
Great coffee and friendly staff not to mention plenty of seating for breakfast mid-week.
b. o.
Maybe it was my expectations, but they were definitely not met with the 21 dollar not Reuben sandwich and yuca chips.
K. P.
Never had bad coffee or food here
C. E.
Definitely top 3 coffees in the city. Food is always incredible and worth a wait. Staff are always helpful and really knowledgeable about the menu and different coffees. Well worth taking home some beans of there's while you're there.
N. C.
Friendly staff, good coffee, good food and spacious seating area.
J. m.
Great coffee and Food, excellent service!! Had the fried chicken wrap and a few oat flat whites, do recommend
J. D.
They obviously take care of their coffee which I liked. Service a little slow and only thing that marked it down from a 5 star as the location is good as are the surroundings.
M. E.
I had the huevos divorciados this morning topped with barbacoa lamb and avo. Really tasty dish - tostados were fresh and crisp, green salsa was tangy and the lamb was a great savory addition that went well with the beans in the dish. One of the tastiest breakfasts I have had in quite some time and would not hesitate to go back!
H. D.
Fried chicken so good I cried!
if you have celiac this is the best place to go in Sydney for brunch or lunch! Everything I have had from this menu has been PERFECT. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the menu has a wide variety of options regardless of dietary requirements, and everything is delicious. The lemon cheesecake milkshake was a perfect treat.
P. L.
Nice cafe with good food and coffee. stylish decorations!
R. P.
Varieties of coffee and amazing team here .. love the positive vibe here ..
J. D.
Coffee on point!! Food was good but was expecting excellent for the price.
N. K.
Great coffee and architecture. Plus the cupping event weekly. If you'd like to learn more about third wave coffee, it's definitely the first place to go.
P. H.
Laidback atmosphere, above average food, though like all brunch places in Sydney, overpriced.
L.
Great place to catch up with friends for brunch. Had an avocado on Rye with scrambled eggs and pickled onions with some of a friends' sausage. That combo was great. Can pay via tap and pay. Street parking was 2P ticketed about $3.30 per hour over the weekend but plenty of parking for a 10am catch-up.
M. J.
Nice location, nice staff and layout. The savoury food here is an absolute treat. Looked great, tasted fantastic and was so different compared to other cafes. The sweet breakfasts however were disappointing. I got the Cinnamon French Toast - what a let down. A lot of whipped cream to cover up how bone dry it was and the espresso chocolate ganache was neither here nor there. Not enough to save the dish at any rate. Do yourself a favour and get something savoury
C. T.
Food was amazing and the staff were super friendly, highly recommended ☺️
L. Y.
Nice coffee, it's well made and done with a smile. The service is friendly and very easy to find. The wraps are nice and very tasty.
M.
I don't really think cafe's food menu are tasty and always feel pricey. But their salad plate was absolutely amazing. I added salmon that time but menu is changed a bit. Please order HILLS SALAD BOWL here.

I have been there twice. My housemates love the coffee there. However, I personally love the beef brisket course (I forgot the name). The place has a nice and relaxing vibe, and the staff members are super friendly. The price is in medium-high range.

Great space and in a good location. Gets really busy so be prepared to wait. Coffee was nice, though the cold brew was a bit thin. Food is decent, most things I've ordered have tasted quite similar, like a variant of Shakshuka.

Nice coffee and the food was good. I had some baked eggs with chorizo and greens. Was well done, simple but good quality and tasty.
Coffee was fine.
The space is really nice and it’s in an excellent location. Easy to access step free space.

I think this is more like an institution than a venue.. Go-to hub for coffee and great food... hip & cool spot fits well Surry Hills vibe
G. S.
The coffee was great and the interior decor makes it a reputable place. Just not a huge fan of the food at the price it was: my brioche bun was soaking from the water off the salad and my mate's muesli was drenched in water off the strawberries. Highly recommend on the coffee but not the food.

Reuben Hills is my favourite Sydney cafe. I have been going there since they opened in around 2012, and I have never had anything less than excellent, fresh, delicious food and coffee. The staff have always been friendly, personable, and efficient, and I always feel happier when I leave than when I walked in because of my interactions with them.
Recently I dropped in for a coffee close to closing time, and I was served as if it were opening time; with friendly and welcoming service, which is an impressive feat if you've been on your feet serving people all day. Thanks Reuben Hills folks!

The last time I had scrambled eggs this good, the chooks that laid them roamed free in my grandma's backyard. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of some menu items. Every dish sampled was nothing short of amazing. The poached pear is certainly worth driving out of your way for! Perfect coffee served by pleasant wait staff is an added bonus. Highly recommended!

Nice little Cafe. Broken omelette was nice but dirty bird was a let down. Over priced for what you get.

Amazing food and service. Great taste and atmosphere.
K. D.
I was very excited to visit this cafe for first time based on the concept, menu and overall reviews online. I am very disappointed with the service, the food and my experience today.
If you are going to have foreign words on your menu, make sure waitstaff are familiar with them. Lack of knowledge and confidence in this regard leads to not be able to deliver an exceptional final product.
Two of the three meals we ordered were underwhelming in both presentation and the ingredients.
The Broken Omelette Roll end up being 1 x fried egg cut in half on a rocket bed and a lifeless tortilla. $16.5
In the Cinnamon scroll french toast, the popcorn foam was literally simple whipped cream. The Chocolate ganache was indeed very tasty combined with the almond praline and the pistachios, I felt somehow relieved that my breakfast wasn't completely ruined however, I felt embarrassed with my colleague and partner to have taken them here as we had to curtailed our gastronomic somewhere else.
Coffee was the indeed the highlight as was extracted to perfection on a beautiful espresso cup and served with sparkling water.
吳.
Good coffee, staffs are very nice and helpful with coffee bean purchase
K. R.
Fantastic breakfast. The two items we had were on the spicy side, but delicious (and you're given fair warning if you read the ingredients). Only complaint was a slightly weak soy coffee, but overall an enjoyable meal.
J. L.
This place is fantastic. The coffee is up there with the best in Sydney and the food is amazing also. They have a very different style of menu here which is mostly very healthy. The space is open plan and comfortable. The service is really very good too.
G. P.
The breakfast burrito was out of this world - plump and bursting with flavour. The ambience of this place is also wonderful with an industrial chic feel. Such a great spot for lunch.
P. C.
Thank you for always staying open during the holiday periods. We can always count on you serving great coffee and food with excellent service! Our definite go-to. Keep up the good work!
G. C.
I had a breakfast meeting bright and early on a weekday at 7am. The brioche was really tasty, though a little tricky to eat with the filling spilling out the sides. I really enjoyed the coffee and had to go back for seconds. The space is huge and the waiters are really friendly, but it is a bit more expensive than your average cafe.
H. N.
Definitely one of the hipster hotspot in town; expect a queue for table and average wait time of around 15-20 min. I'd say the experience, especially if you're look for a satisfying South American brunch, is worth it though. It can be a little noisy inside with the music, coffee machine and chatters going on, so given a choice, I'd sit closer to the entrances and take in the rustic feel of the place. There are so many good choices of all-day breakfast and I really enjoyed The NOT Reuben as well as the excellent coffee. Service is friendly and casual, table service is provided. Though it's not exactly my kind of vibe, I'd certainly visit again.

I don’t know what’s wrong with the 🍟...hard to chew…but everything else is as good as always.🥰
M. G.
Hip place... Nice crowd and a cool neon light on the wall attracting people to take photos 😄
C. B.
Always a top spot for a quality, satisfying brunch. They do fabulous filter coffee, have a varied and interesting menu, staff are friendly and the decor lovely. The atmosphere here too is chill and relaxing for a popular Sydney cafe.
C. T.
Awesome atmosphere, people seem happy just to be there. Reuben Hills serves incredible coffee and hoping to catch a cupping session one Friday at 10am. The food range is different from your standard brunch or lunch, and is delicious. The milkshakes look pretty good too. Service is great and moves along pretty quickly - worth the short queue at lunch.
G.
Some really cool staff here. I liked the selection and options for various food dishes, and the fresh juices are excellent. Not too sweet and very tasty - everything feels hand made here, and that’s good. A lot of cafes can half arse it, but not this place that’s for sure. I recommend brunch or lunch here with friends or even for business meetings - I’ll be back to each very soon I’m sure of it. Cheers guys!
Y. O.
Had the tostadas my wife the tacos. Great food, unique take on brunch a refreshing change you usually see in other cafes. Filter coffee was good quality. Went Sunday around 11am, 20 min wait which we expected. Only was able to sit 1hr and we were kindly kicked out by the staff. Huge crowds waited outside. Not the place if you want to chill and chat with friends. Friendly staff.
G. M.
Very nice venue, good food and nice Tumeric Ginger Almond lattes. An otherwise pleasant experience ruined by the manageress's refusal to split the payment down the middle (2 card taps) as we were 2 couples. She even refused to take half in cash & half on credit card (I'm sure both are legal tender). We dine out multiple times every week and hardly ever have this nonsense issue. If you guys make it difficult for customers, we've got hundreds of other restaurants & cafes to choose from.
D. D.
It is super busy but worth the wait. The ice cream sandwich with raspberry mousse is the bomb! And the hearty rice pudding. But of course we wanted to make sure whether the Really f**king great friend chicken were exactly that! And they're pretty awesome... We can't wait to get back for more!
R. “. W.
Price was quite high but food and coffee were at a high quality to justify. The waiting line for a table appeared quite long upon arriving but we were seated quickly with only a small wait.
R. d. R.
Another uber cool brunch spot in Surry Hills reminiscent of the Melbourne cafe culture. The coffee is highly regarded here as well as their interesting menu options. From their expertly fried chicken, soft baked eggs, crab tacos and salted caramel milkshakes, its all really good and really enjoyable. The milkshakes are pricey at $8.50 a pop which I have mixed feelings about because, yeah, it is delicious but is it worth $8.50? Hell no! But at the end of the day, this cafe boasts a relaxed vibe and ultimate dude food.
H. V.
Place look really cool and trendy, but it dropped a bit in quality when it comes to flavor.
My espresso was just ok.
My latte had a beautiful art, but it tasted...ok
It used to taste a lot better.
But food was great
E. B.
We have been coming to Reuben Hills on and off for nearly eight years now. At first we came because it was trendy and a hipster hang, now we go because we know it's consistent.
We've had one poor experience, which I panned in a review here, and now I'm amending that because generally speaking Reuben Hills is as consistently good as it gets.
The coffee is consistently great, the broken omelette roll is always tasty and the milkshakes and fried chicken are the absolute goods.
It should be said that even though RH has changed to partial table service with Covid, the service is still personal, friendly and knowledgeable.
Being able to go to RH during the pandemic had allowed us to feel like things aren't so different and haven't changed too much. You can't ask for much more than that.

Chilli and cheese $8 from apc breads

Ate here this morning after seeing queues on the weekend, figured it must be good.
Food and service was fantastic. In-house roasted coffee delicious. Staff very helpful and charming. Great place
C. L.
I went in initially for a coffee but decided to order breakfast. The egg omelette with milk bun, shrimps, aioli was so good i wish I could fit another one in me! Will definitely go back next time I visit Sydney.
S. H.
Very good coffee but food is a little hit and miss in a cool warehouse environment.
There is no doubt these guys take their coffee seriously with weekly special blends, my buddy was very impressed. Their food is not as consistent. I had a delicious Mex Meatballs dish that comes with a fried egg, pickled vegetables, labneh in a tortilla "bowl" it was delicious. It had the right degree of spice and texture and I can highly recommend it. My friend's avo on rye looked to be a very poor second cousin to my dish, so much so I had to apologise. A single piece of toast with a small serve of avocado on top with a couple of chickpeas did not match the description and for $14.50 definitely expensive for what you get.
This place has a lot going for it, and is clearly popular with the locals and supported with some lovely staff. If it was just my meal it would be an easy 4 stars, maybe even 5 but it lost that star for the avo on rye.
K. W.
Open cafe. Food is a lot and delicious.
J. G.
Great coffee (mixed house blend) with own armond and macadamia milk in my case. Capaccinos are nice. Friendly staff. Some nice food options sth and central American. Enjoyed baked eggs with optional chorizzo one day and not rueban (lamb tortilla) another day with optional chips. Gluten free options available. Tasty not too spicy. No bookings and often need to wait but usually only 10 min. Nice feel though no air con but was okay even on a warm new years day.
S. K.
One thing to say from the outset - the food at Reuben Hills is great and the coffee is hits the spot too. I can't fault anything I've eaten or drunk in this establishment, and particularly appreciate a menu with a couple of swear words on it!
Having said that, my experience with the staff has been incredibly varied. Oscillating from rude, dismissive and arrogant, to wonderful, attentive and a joy to be around, I feel that they could work on a more consistent customer experience. The first time I went I vowed I'd never return, and about half the times I've been back I've regretted it. I want to like this place, but they make it hard.
B. B.
One of those lovely finds, clean but warm interior that makes it a nice relaxing place to unwind and relax with a friend or by yourself. Usually quiet enough that seating isn't an issue . Light enough that you can easily work, but still dim enough to feel warm and cosy with your coffee (or tea). Great coffee blend,, and good customer service.
F. D.
Such friendly staff, especially this kind girl with super short hair that took my partner and I order for lunch. 10/10 would definitely recommend for nice brunch
M. M.
Great coffee and a really interesting food menu
R. C.
Best coffee in Sydney- hands down. Only slight neg is the food cost... for sometimes small (but delicious) meals. Still a five star though- coffees too good.
S. Y.
Lovely place to have brunch!
Got recommended by my friends.
I found some interesting ingredients on menu like yuca fries and homemade sauce.
I ordered fried chicken basket and my bf got the not reuben with yuca fries.
We love both menu! So yum!
We didnt expect too much as it sounds simple and common.
However, once we had a bite of each food, it opened our eyes and woke up our brain! Food served quite quickly but so fresh. Its seasoning and sauce are amazing! New flavours and well balanced with the main.
Yuca fries is like potato chips but more hard in texture and dried than potatoes. Chicken was marinated with some spices and a kick in mouth! Not too spicy though. Steak sandwich was average but i like their pickled slaw and the sauce!
Coffee was smooth and aromatic. They do self roasting on 2nd floor and sell their unique and high quality coffee beans.
For parking, you can do street parking and walk to the cafe for 5mins. Or you can park behind the cafe. I didnt know the parking space until i got there.
In general, reuben hills is one of hipster cafe in Sydney! I will definitely come back there to try different menu!
D. S.
Great food and excellent as always. It's nice to have a brunch and get some different flavours to the stock standards everywhere else. Service is ok could be better, but the vibe of the whole place is awesome. So long as you don't have to wait too long for a table
N. L.
Great place to have some Latin influenced all day dishes but ideal for lunch really. Good choices of single origin coffee and other brews. Can get quite busy though as it is rather long and narrow inside! Forget about parking by the way...

This morning I had my first cup of coffee made with a Reuben Hills roast and it was delicious. Shortly afterwards, I walked to Reuben Hills, met one of the owners and the roaster. The staff is warm and friendly. The crew seems to passionately love good coffee and I was happy to hear that they have relationship with the bean growers personally.
Great interior with lots of seating, a little busy during lunch hour.
K.
Was staying here for NYE and looked at Google for some suggestions for breakfast and this place came up. We walked in and were told there was a 20 min wait. We weren't in a hurry so that was fine. It was very busy. They took my name and said if I wanted a coffee they can make it now and bring it out the front while we waited. Coffee came quick and was fantastic. We were later seated in the back on a share table which I like. I had a chat to some other people on the table about what to order ect (good advice) one of the waitresses then came over and game me my change from the coffee which I forgot (great service) we both ordered the not Rubén sandwich (see pic) which was amazing also had a cold pressed juice. Pineapple carrot and ginger. Overall fantastic service, the staff were amazing and the food/coffee was superb.
A. S.
If I were to choose the best Cafe in Sydney on an objective basis, Reuben Hills would be my pick. It's not something you'd be starstruck with, but with a humble atmosphere, a consistently great tasting menu, and friendly staff, you'd find yourself wanting to go back for yet another Sunday brunch
P. W.
Most authentic Mexican breakfast I've had outside of Mexico City. Really eclectic menu. Go prepared to queue. Fairly reasonably priced given how unique it is. Full of very "cool" people with ridiculous beards so don't bother if you don't like that crowd. In fact, you should probably get out of Surry Hulls if that's an issue...
A. L.
If you read my other reviews, you'll notice that I like coffee (a little more than is normal). That said, I was a little disappointed with the coffee here. I mean, it wasn't terrible but I had heard such wonderful things and was expecting something amazing! I'm not giving up though because the venue is funky, the staff lovely and the menu looked delicious. I'll try the cold drip when I visit again next week.
Note: they stock Glazed Doughnuts so win.
A. M.
Had lunch here on a Wednesday recently. 'Yes' to 'vibe', fit-out, cool-in-a-good-way staff, and menu. The menu looked authentic (to match the description that the dishes are inspired by S.& C. America) and the food was.
'No' to price/value - $18 for a good sandwich (the unruben), but still a sandwich in a plastic basket, is too much. The flavours were very good, though it was soggy underneath.
As true coffee nuts (not stupid coffee snobs), we rated the coffee about 7/10 on our 'Sydney Cafe scale'. Hardly good enough for their daily blend, let alone the 'special' one we paid extra for. And I don't know when a 'double shot' became an old single shot, but that's what they both were. $9 for a piece of untried but good-looking cake/tarte is too much. Full stop. Lots of competition in Surry Hills!..

Finally I made it to Reuben hills to check out what its all about. Although its quite busy, we were promptly served and all the menu items I have ordered were delicious. We started off with a mango lassi (which was refreshing and not too sweet). Then I had the Ruben sandwich and it was very tasty. Overall everything was perfect apart from the fact that it may be very busy at times. I had a good time catching up with friends there and will come back again to sample more of their menu

A renovated warehouse, this industrial chic place is both a cafe and roaster with a side of innovative and outstanding food. From the malted bacon shake to the "Dirty Bird", Reuben Hills mixes novel flavours with quality food to produce a café experience that stands out from the rest. The staff are super nice too!
M. C.
Super coffee shop that opens front and back. Always busy in the mornings so expect to wait if you want a table. Staff are great and they serve a good coffee. Take away is quick. It's a good place for meetings if you are looking for somewhere in Surry Hills.
J. L.
Really packed for brunch on weekends. The salted caramel milkshake is surprisingly not as sweet as you would expect and is really tasty. Recommend the fried chicken as well. Waited 40minutes at 10am on a Saturday though so would probably go earlier or a lot later.
T.
I love the mexican flavours in the food. Definitely perks up your brunch! It can however get a bit repetitive. Not sure if it's somewhere I'd come back to but I did enjoy everything I ate aside from their supposedly famous fried chicken.. just don't go there.
D. M.
Hidden away in a small Surry Hills street it seems surprising that this place would always be busy... but it is! The fact that it is completely open in the back (take a blanket in winter) is quite nice, feels almost like you could be in a secret pop up restaurant that has taken over a garage. This is a good spot to have coffee, lunch or a sweet treat (like their Nutella macaron).
M. V.
How do we score this place? We went to experience the coffee and food, which was on point. My partner had the avo on rye while i had the broken omelette roll. We both enjoyed these immensely.
Our coffees were delicious. We've both heard a lot about the coffee here, and we were not disappointed, however, this is where things started to fall apart... Asking about the various coffees on order and getting an understanding about them as someone who is a not a seasoned hipster coffee connoisseur... This leads us to service.
It was clear from the moment we arrived, we were not the type of people the waitress would make friends with and were treated to a chilly reception.
She was the type of person who only likes you if you're a 7 foot bag of muscles with a stupid haircut who pays no attention to her or her advances, read: a douchebag.
From the way she interacted with others, it was clear she was either the manager or assistant manager or something like that.
It was not too busy when we arrived, so sat down at a table, but then thought we should double check with the wait staff to make sure we had not taken a reserved table or something like that. On asking, her response was an annoyed, "just sit down."
From here, anytime she interacted with us, it was clear she had no time for us and regarded our questions as though they were dumb.
She became visibly annoyed with my partner who did take some extra time ordering. As she was breastfeeding at the time, there were many foods and substances she was forced to avoid, so was asking what was in a certain drink, or if there was tomato in the meal. The waitress walked away at many times while we were trying to establish our order, as it was clear her time was so important and we were wasting it.
Look, we get it alright? Both of us have done our time in customer service. It sucks. People are stupid. However, if you have a happy demeanour and treat others well, your day is more enjoyable and you'll get to have those nice interactions with good people.
This person obviously loathes her job though, so even when we thought we were trying to be super polite and friendly during her rude interactions, we were unable to get an ounce of decent customer service or get her to open up and show any civility.
To sum this up: Come here for the coffee and food. it is stellar.
But if you're unfortunate enough to come by on a day when the wait staff are in a bad mood or decide they don't like you, be prepared for Telstra call centre levels of terrible customer service.
E. M.
This has been a favourite for a while. Menu is fun and the food is fantastic. The space is very funky and always has a good vibe. Service is good but sometimes they make you feel that they want you out as soon as you have finished your food. A little pushy. But I go back for the food which is always great.
A. W.
Mind reader!
The awesome experience today was simply down to great food and even better service. Our waitress (with the bangs) was one step ahead all lunch and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed - great chat and great service - give her a promotion!!! 😎
S. C.
The service is good. However, the food flavor here tasted too heavy and a little pricey for its quality. Just do a review here to let google know I don’t like this cafe and not to recommend this kind to me anymore. They used lao gan ma(a cheap and popular sauce in China) to dress their salmon kokodac salad which reduced my appetite as Lao gan ma is not used for salad, especially for breakfast, no way!
J. S.
Coffee was good. But toast was marked vegan on the menu but came with butter, when I asked the waitress for margarine they said they didn't have any. Would come back, but just for coffee.
A. D.
Great, fast service. Went on a Wednesday morning and it wasn't very busy, but I hear it's packed weekends.
Food is south American themed, so there's no classic breakfast options. I had the 'dirty bird' chicken burger, which was great but the meat was a bit thin.
N. N.
We headed here on a Saturday around midday, parking was quite easy and free in Surry Hills. There was little to hate about Reuben Hills. Coffee was excellent, staff very helpful. Definitely recommend the fried chicken...one of a kind, so nice!
If you're looking to really blow your diet, order their salted caramel shake...it was thoroughly enjoyable although it was quite hard to finish...too much of a good thing?!?
Definitely recommended!
J. M. Y. L.
Good food but portion is a bit small for my expectation
N. M.
In an area that's bursting with amazing cafés and unique menus, competition is tough and not much differentiates between those in the business of feeding choosy patrons. So despite the trendy decor and good food, Reuben Hills needs to burnish it's service with a patina of professionalism and a welcoming approach. Yes, Surry Hills is cool, but the survival of its local haunts depends on friendly and never "too cool" service. Once that reputation is polished, Reuben Hills will have all bases covered. It's a shame, because their food is worth boasting about.
c. m.
Bit over price but good food, good atmosphere and good hospitality!
Recommend!
J. B.
Food average - had the avo on rye with bacon. Too much chive and relatively bland.
Lots of extra charges not made that obvious on the bill.
Coffee good.
Overall, pretentious and expensive for what it is.
M. S.
The southern American inspired menu is interesting enough to warrant the 45min wait and when the sun's shining its a nice chance to soak in some rays. Inside the feel is a little retro with neon lights that don't really lighten this converted garage, combined very eclectically with wooden tables & branches of blossoms. I loved being underneath one of the heaters but still close to the open garage door that leads out to a fairly open alleyway.
Anything served on brioche is a win for me - their version of a sweet bacon & egg roll & the dirty bird are both good. I even had the dogg's breakfast ice cream sandwich with salted caramel before lunchtime. Yum.
J. H.
The coffee here was amazing! I also had the soft baked eggs. The eggs were runny with the right amount of seasoning. Would come back again.
L. G.
I had the Huevos Divorciados, and WOW - Incredible. Seriously one of the best cafe menus I have seen in Sydney. Despite being pretty busy when I went the staff remained attentive, friendly, and helpful. Keep up the good work!
K. O.
Nice juice, good coffee. I didn't enjoy the Bircher muesli though. It was drenched in an unpleasant rose water that was just too sweet. The staff asked us to move after and hour or so because people were waiting for a table. No lingering here.
m. f.
Coffee here is boss. Variety, specialty beans, sourcing, no matter your order. Staff are passionate and lovely. Food is fun -- a tasty tour. Don't miss it if you aren't a Surry / Sydney local.
J. B.
Sydney has some really nice cafe's, but Reuben Hills was something special. An amazing place for brunch, and the coffee was pretty nice also.
The open decor is a bit cold in winter, so they've got blankets you can put over your knees, grandpa style.
P. L.
Great vibe and good coffee. Interesting food combos on the menu not that I tried any on this visit. I'll be back to give them a go soon.. Clean, welcoming environment with friendly staff.

My neighbour cafe! Love it! 📸
K. L.
Industrial chic coffee spot with good vibes and even better coffee and food! You're paying inner city prices yes, but it's great. I had the fried chicken for breakfast. It's very filling!
E. L.
Didn't live up to the hype. The cut of meat in the "not Reuben" sandwich was questionable - it was brisket meat, full of tendons - and the entire sandwich just lacked a bit of oomph. The "dirty bird", a piece of grilled chicken in a brioche, was better, but could have used more sauce to balance the dry bun. As for drinks, the cappuccino was average, and I'd say the same for the salted caramel milkshake. The decor was nice, though.
K. O.
Awesome South American breakfasts and coffee. And they have spicy options too unlike every other hipsterish cafe in Sydney. Best breakfast in Sydney. Also awesome lunch. Good veggie options too.
W. A.
$8 for half a chorizo side!!! Beware.
My experience here was much different to most of the reviews. Uncooked "scram" eggs, unspecified coriander and a tortilla filled with "mush". On a positive note- coffee was very good.
D. W.
A unique offering of identity rich food and coffee which would satisfy the most picky of caffeine connoisseurs. The coffee is roasted on-site and created with a lot of shiny gadgetry whilst the food is cooked by a graduate of Heston Blumenthal’s kitchen. Service was cool but a little indifferent; the crowd can be dense with hipsters but it’s worth enduring for a beautiful feed.
Don't forget to try the "Doggs Breakfast" (ice cream ‘sandwich’ with salted caramel).
D. B.
Just finished a quick breakfast here. Can't speak for the coffee, as I didn't try it, but I thought the food was very overpriced and only tasted so-so. Portions were also on the small side. Had a hipster vibe, if you're into that. Wouldn't particularly recommend visiting here; I have no plans to go back.
D. M.
Great recommendations by the waitress. Great feel. Extremely comfortable. Food a little edgy and very tasty...... (if your expecting bacon and eggs with hash browns, time to step up). Highly recommended.

Coffee: Reuben Hills
Passion: 10/10
Crema: 9/10
Having heard more and more about how Reuben Hills is representing Sydney coffee I figured that it was past time for me to sit down and really give them another go. While last time I came through I was unimpressed, today's experience was the cheese to that chalk. Sitting right in front of the espresso machine, watching it all get made was great fun.
I started off with the first coffee that caught my attention, a Kenyan Kikaiab coffee from Bungoma East district as an espresso. It proved to be a great choice as the rich, warm and somewhat caramel aroma, had me rushing to take a pic and get right into it. As I tasted the robust whack of flavour, it quickly switched to a tart slightly green berry, offering an interesting contrast. As it finished, the sides of my tongue felt heavy, and yet it still had a warm clean finish. Thumbs up...
Noticing next the batch brew, Columbian La Cumbra, my next coffee choice was made easy. While it started empty and somewhat flavourless, giving it a few minutes to cool down and open it up brought out a heap of juicy fuji pear on my tongue and a sharp dryness in my breath. The tasting notes mentioned roasted almonds that I got once very briefly about 1/4 the way in, but it was fleeting. Unfortunately I let the final bit go a little bit far as the sweetness left a bit of an aftertaste, but it was still enjoyable... and so I wanted more...
And more I had, gong next to "The Blend" (60% Ethiopian Yiracheffe, 30% Colombian Finca San Luis, 10% Columbian Villa Margarita) which was like shoving my head into a bunch of jasmine. While the very floral aroma sad enjoyable, I was surprised how much tart fruitiness was in their blend considering it out mostly going to be drunk with milk. Still, as an espresso it offered an interesting and enjoyable experience.
All up, it seems like this is a cafe I could get very used to, and with this amount of quality coffee coming through, it seems like they finally have a nice balance. Certainly worth checking out.
L. H.
I recommend you to try the coffee there. It has been considered one of the best places to have a coffee in Sydney. It was good indeed, but with all the reviews and recommendations for this place.i honestly expected more from it. Service wasn't too bad
P. K.
Fresh! Awesome coffee place. Have been going there every second weeks for over 6 months and have never been disappointed. The novelty of the garage entrance still hasn't worn off - it's a very well designed venue 💕💕💕
N. A.
The store was in a really cool location! Coffee was great, quinoa porridge was unique but yummy! Avo-toast was a bit bland. Great customer service.
M. N.
Even on the day of The Rocks Aroma Festival this cafe with its funky rear lane opening where you instantly feel the cool atmosphere within was literally packed to the rafters.
The cold pour over coffee is quite interesting, its fresh smooth texture makes it perfect for chilling out on a hot summer afternoon. The "really *** great fried chicken" with spicy salsa dip does well to earn its name but i can't help but think it would go well with a nice cold beer to offset its oiliness. The fluffy golden scram on rye with a generous side of morcilla is delicious. It's no wonder the queue is long every weekend.
M. A.
Headed out to brunch this morning on a friends recommendation. Started out with a ginger and turmeric latte with house made almond milk which was delicious! Followed it up with the poached chicken broth with mushrooms and ginger with a side of yuca fries with horseradish cream which was all amazing. Also ordered a side of the charro beans but that was the let down here- lacking in texture and taste.
D. L.
Great decor, light roasted coffee (campos, Vitoria, Toby estate drinkers - ask for extra shot). Their poached egg dish is amazing, never had better poached eggs.
J. K.
Bit overpriced. But nice food and atmosphere. Worth it!
J. T.
The chicken in the dirty bird is sooooo delicious which is marinated with garlic taste. Love the coffee here (I ordered cappuccino). Will definitely come back.

Industrial look, casual vibe. Friendly staff who were happy to help us choose things on the menu with all the group's various intolerances. I had Huevas Divorciado and they were yummy. They soy chai was a little average, but the hot chocolate with macadamia/almond mylk blend was great.
m.
Came here for lunch on Sunday. Ordered the Mex meatballs: a soft tortilla acting as a bowl in which meatballs, escabeche etc were put inside of it. The meatballs were actally pretty good but the escabeche were too wet causing the tortilla to become too soggy at the bottom and it was almost like a little bowl of vinegar soup in the tortilla. Would suggest them to drain the escabeche before putting it into the tortilla bowl.
The Avo on Rye was decent, but nothing much to shout about. It seems the dairy free options in the menu are quite limited and not that interesting as well, so if you are dairy intolerant, you are probably better off having lunch somewhere else.
For drinks, the ice horchata was pretty good and i'll probably order it again if I come back.
L. C.
Overrated hipster joint: I went a couple of times and I find that their coffee isn't very good and the food is quite plain. The place looks great but the seating is very uncomfortable and you often have to wait for your uncomfortable chair.
M. V.
Food was fantastic, however on the pricey side. Coffee above average. The place was crowded and noisy, and we had to sit at the rear entrance where there were a lot of flies, probably due to trash accumulating on a hot day.
E. M.
Quite the scene. Went for a coffee and a milkshake, got whacked with a 10% “weekend surcharge” plus a credit card surcharge. Food looked good, but probably won’t be back.
J. T.
Great funky space in surry hills, i felt trendier just being there. The rueben sandwich is the house specialty and was superb. Coffee was one of the best flat whites around Sydney, maybe the best.
S. L.
Been here twice already and i like the feel of the place. Can never get a table for two so we always opt for the bench. The coffees dont disappoint and the food is really nice especially the crab tacos even though the portions are quite small. Everytime i go its always packed and its one of the better cafes in the surry hills district so i highly recommend it
S. W.
don't come with any expectations of your typical breakfast/brunch experience like pancakes, eggs bene, corn fritters, otherwise you will be disappointed! Dishes such as baked eggs & jamon, salted caramel milkshake feature on this menu. Spanish influence - they also do 'cupping classes' for the coffee nerds. Another place that gets busy around 10am on a Sat/Sunday so either opt for a takeaway milkshake, expect to queue or get there around 9/930 before the hipsters rise!
T. &. T.
Reuben Hills is always busy and you will always be met with long lines to get in, but always worth the wait. The salted caramel milkshake is amazing, perfectly teamed with their NOT Reuben Sandwich, beef brisket sandwich with melthed cheese and sourdough bread. My top is to go late in the afternoon after the breakfast and lunch rush.
J. L.
Only came in for a coffee. But I discovered that it does serve one of the best coffees in the area. The cafe itself is modern, and yet industrial. Providing quite an interesting and pleasant atmosphere.
E. D.
This place is way overpriced if your looking for a cheap eat. The broken omelette burgers seems to be the winner with my mates. For vegan options don't even bother. Coffee is average considering all the hype and $$$.
D. E.
Good coffee and good food. Often a wait for a table. Really want them to bring back the baleada!
D. S.
Despite being hipster-central, i do love this place. Amazing fitout, staff are attentive and has amazing coffee and food. Must try: Salted Caramel Milkshake. Do it!
S. L.
I was on the way to another cafe I'd read about on Broadsheet when I discovered Rueben Hills. Tucked away along Albion Way, RH are serving suburban garage grunge realness mixed with the coffee culture of Melbourne to match.
Staff are great, the food is superb, and the coffee makes my heart shake with love.

T. C.
Great filter coffee in a cool atmosphere
R. W.
Good stalwart of coffee in Surry Hills. Lighter roasted coffee but always made well. Food menu can be a bit too much for the price at times but a great vibe and good staff.
J. T.
Be prepared to wait during peak times...it's worth the wait though! The Soft Baked eggs with chorizo is perfection and goes well with a Nutella hot chocolate. The Baleanda is another solid option. They roast the coffee onsite and that alone is worth waiting on a line for a seat. The salted caramel thickshake is worth the calories too.
N. v. S.
Convenient for anyone going to the children's court or exploring the Surry Hills area. Beautiful building. Great coffee, just a little on the expensive side at $5.08 for a small takeaway coffee.
A. H.
Coffee never disappoints. One of the best lunch option in this part of Surry Hills.
M. H.
Good friendly service, and the coffee is pretty decent. I ordered the baked eggs and they were OK, but not worth the high price or weekend surcharge.
J. N.
When on the long weekend and waited for about 20 mins because it was so busy. Definitely worth it though. I had the baked eggs with chorizo which were so so amazing. Unfortunately it felt like they were rushing us but i guess that was fair enough seeing as there were still so many people waiting out the front
A. B.
Good coffee, attentive staff and nice and simple house's design.
A. L.
Good coffee, amazing breakfast choices. Expect longer wait times at the weekend for a table.
S. L.
Great coffee. On the pricey side, but for Sydney standards that is normal. Lovely spot near central. Good service and quality food.
H. C.
This place has been on my list to try for a bit, and being the try hard I am I went and tried it out. Hard. I suppose this place would be the perfect place to be a try hard, since some people dub it as a hipster cafe (since hipsters are supposedly try-hards.) It most definitely has the vibe down, with the industrial interior, garage door rear, clientele and romanti--errr...sparse lighting. I imagine it would be pretty dark in here if it wasn't for the open garage door since there are no windows.
I'm a caffeine addict so I had to try the coffee...the flat white was OK. Not bad, not amazing, but OK.
Since I was so disappointed with the Reuben at Reuben & Moore, I decided to disappoint myself further with the NOT Reuben, but at least this one was a pleasant surprise since it isn't advertised as a Reuben, so no disappointment there...the wagyu was delicious. My friend ordered the brioche and the Baleada. The brioche was a bit blase, and the Baleada was simply OK...nothing to write home about.
We topped off with a salted caramel shake and I have to say, if I wanted to get diabetes this would be how I would go. Gimme some of that sugar...
This place is more of a cafe; I wouldn't consider Reuben Hills a place to go for brunch since they don't have a typical brunch menu, but it's definitely worth checking out.
J. D.
Great coffee and weird and wonderful menu. Some things you wouldn't normally have for breakfast that should be normalised breakfast items because D E L I C I O U S. Nice decor and chilled staff
M. R.
Good specialty coffee in Surry Hills.
T. B.
Genuinely one of the best breakfasts we've had... ever. My girlfriend being a veggie was very well catered for and not just the bog standard avo on toast.
L. L.
Great coffee and food but honestly what’s with the surcharge for paying with a card on top of already being the most expensive coffee in Surry Hills and no loyalty card either. If you can’t look after your locals then I’m sorry but I will have to visit one of your competitors for my daily coffees and business meetings.
A. L.
Perfect place to spend on a Sunday morning where you can relax with coffee and brekkie. Be warn to go early otherwise you'll be queued. Interior is nice, staff are quite rushed but understandable.
Nice place in Surrey Hills.
K. L.
Nice cafe with good food and coffee. stylish decorations!Perfect coffee served by pleasant wait staff is an added bonus. Highly recommended!
C. P.
Coffee and food were both good, but not great and definitely not quite worth the price and the wait (40mins for a table for 2 at 11pm Sunday)
Some of the staff (including the hostess) looked really annoyed and pissed at us when we tried to speak to them, which did not add to the experience
H.
Great service, friendly team members, cozy place to chill out for brunch. Delicious food and great cold brew !
J. K.
Good coffee and amazing place 😍👌🏻
A. M.
Awesome atmosphere and funky food (including the aptly named "f-ing good chicken"). Being an iconic Surry Hills brunch spot, expect a line of up to half an hour on weekends.
S. F.
I’m sorry, when did a funky fit out replace good service? Over-priced subpar Mexican breakfasts. No wi-fi. Very hum-ho hipper than thou service built on a premise of “oh so worldly we’ve been to South America” pretense with Frida Kahlo tattoos for authenticity (it’s a well done tattoo, to be fair). The pour over was good if not a little weak. Call me a Melburnian and all the BS that comes with it, but I always get the feeling in Sydney that looks mean more than substance. Someone or somewhere prove me wrong. Please. Did I mention no WiFi?
M. B.
Easy, local and good food. Expect to wait during weekends and busy periods. Friendly staff and great coffee! Seats at the back of the cafe are best.
F. L.
Great spot for brunch. Excellent coffee, great food and nice interior and vibe. Meals are well portioned, and very tasty. Great location too.
R. &. R.
A walk into this place, and you appreciate the decor, and that's only the beginning.
The coffee is more of a speciality here, and you eother choose wisely, or let the barista make a recomendation for you. And while they explain the coffees to you, they will give notes & descriptors like at a wine bar.
Russell who runs this place, offers free coffee tasting (known as cupping) at 10am every Friday. This is a good place to appreciate coffee, like what you do to wine. Famous baristas of the world had spoken about Reuben Hills, you should too.
R. Y.
The not-reuben is seriously the BEST sandwich of all time. Seems like a huge call but try it for yourself and you'll understand. It has a legendary reputation for a good reason!! Can't rave enough about it.
M. A. A.
Great food, ambience, and super friendly staff!
T. H.
Scram on toast with bacon and avo. It's doesn't get any better. Superb.
P. O.
Really nice service. Cool brunc place located in an old garage. The broken omelette was good. A different flavor.
Cappuccino was standard.
A bit pricey.
S. M.
Inevitable lines, but nice food awaits the patient brunch hunter. Good coffee to sip while you ponder the nature of Sydney's real estate market over an avocado toastie.
V. 5.
Interesting place, stylish - loved their trees on the tables. Attentive:& quiet service. Espressos though need more attention for flavour and presentation (better use sniffter/baloon coffee cups... for aficionados 😊)
B. K.
Coffee was very good and the food wasn't bad. This place felt a bit too cool for its own good though. Service could definitely have been better
T. N. A. N.
The lamb braised is amazing. The service was good. One advise, don't order scramble on rye. 13$ for such a tiny portion. Never again
S. M.
Solid coffee, but BEST food at a cafe I've had in Sydney... great portions. Great vibes as well. Well-done.
K. S.
What a great place! The food was exquisite - so different that usual cafes in Sydney. A brunch with a Mexican twist - loved it :)
F. G.
Best coffee in Sydney! The food is outstanding too. Cool place and friendly staff. Can get crowded on weekends but is worth the wait.
B. H.
Second visit -
Still overpriced, still not the best brunch on Sydney.
Avocado on toast was crazy expensive for what you got.. And there was onion in the smashed avo.. Who does that?
Milkshakes and juice was the highlight.
E. C.
Love the staff, vibe, decor and travel 30 minutes for their coffee. The menu is great however super disappointed that don't have a gluten free bread option.
F. C.
Goo range of speciality coffee single origin. Always fast and friendly service. Great food too amazing creativity can be a little pricey no biggy
P. Q.
Food was OK, but menu is inconsistent - some items are good, others (the chicken) are kind of boring. Prices seem a little high for serving sizes. Staff are friendly and service was reasonably quick.
A.
Favourite breakfast/lunch spot in Surry. It’s pricey but the menu is so great. Poor service but the food makes up for that.
J. B.
Great turmeric and ginger latte. Not many gluten free options so I had a series of sides which were all very tasty. Good service.
M. C.
Very nice little cafe. Food was great and service was excellent. The only downside was the wait for a table but that can only be expected on a Sunday morning. I would recommend the 'NOT Reuben'
T. K.
Excellent breakfast! Fast and friendly staff and especially delicious coffee and food! The balmeda was new for me but delicious.
V. B.
Great place to get a coffee and breaky if you are their early enough. As with most good places in the city it is quite busy later in the morning and staff are quite rushed but it is worth it. Funky design.
s. b.
the best chicken burger ive had in Australia by far. it acutally tastes different if that makes sense. great vibe. looking forward to coming back already
M. P.
Smmmooth batch brew from these guys - really awesome coffee. The quinoa porridge was very tasty - the freeze dried mandarins blew my mind.
I. K.
I had not been there before so I was not sure what to expect. Lovely attentive staff. And super flavoursome food. Enjoyable visit.
D. F.
Reuben Hills is proof that Sydney is quickly becoming the coffee capital of Australia. The coffee roastery takes up almost the entire second floor of the amazingly revamped Surry Hills terrace so you know the owners take their coffee seriously. Yet it was the food which really shone with the menu as original and exciting as the coffee-growing countries that inspired it.
The namesake of the cafe, the Reuben sandwich (above), personifies the originality of the establishment with a wonderful take on the original Reuben replacing corned beef and sauerkraut with melt-in-your-mouth wagyu brisket and crunchy coleslaw producing a sandwich that would make Arthur Dent proud. South American brioche with dulche de leche and Central American baleada (a tortilla folded in half and filled with various ingredients) complete the unique yet simple gastronomic journey.
As you follow the polished concrete floor through the industrial-style kitchen to the massive roller door leading to the alleyway at the back, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a nook of Brooklyn’s Williamsburg slurping espresso milkshakes and iced lattes amongst the hipsters of tomorrow, sans pretentiousness. Then you taste a salted caramel milkshake and you could be anywhere including whatever your heaven may be.
The coffee, from the quintessential to its intriguing deviations, is the focal point through which the other elements take inspiration. The menu moulds itself around the brew and fits like a warm hoodie on a cold Sydney summer’s day. When placed in the raw industrial fuselage of the reworked terrace, you have yet another Sydney original. I suggest you run for the Reuben Hills!
C. M.
Good food but long wait times, usually very busy during lunch hours
S. T. C.
One of the MUST visit coffee shop in Sydney.
K. P.
i agree with others that the servings are not large enough to warrant the price. Staff were attentive but jaded and 'over it'. Will choose another brekkie spot next time..
Z. B.
Some of the best coffee in Sydney. Go for the coffee first and foremost - the food is generally good but I've had a few lackluster meals, particularly baked eggs and other things served in a pot.
D. A.
I had their Huevos Divorciados for breakfast and didn't need to eat again for a year.
M. A.
Great service, awesome food! The cinnamon French toast was one-of-a-kind amazing! Will be back very soon just for that.
G. J.
Excellent fried chicken tacos, and the Salted Caramel Milkshake is something to try for sure.
I do think their food prices are a little high for a cafe however.
N. S.
Love this joint, coffee was good. They offer variety of breakfast and freshly cooked.
H. W.
Great coffee and colourful flavours in dishes. There may be a wait on weekends, but it was not long before I was served a bar seat.
N. W.
Great atmosphere, food was interesting. Nutella hot chocolate was amazing. Staff weren't overly friendly, but polite. Worth a visit.
J. Y.
I quite like the decor. Had the Not Rubén and cold brew. Brisket was really nice, tender a little salty but with the slaw the salt goes away.
L. M.
It's been a few years since I've been here. Not as good as I remember it. The flat white I've just had is rather non descript. I wasn't all that hungry, but the menu didn't entice me very much. Might have me though.
J. v. M.
Love this place. Great coffee and atmosphere and friendly staff. However, sometimes the music can be a bit too loud .
A. N.
Pretty good banana bread and coffee
S. L.
I was lucky to avoid the crazy queues and only had to wait 10 minutes. Great ambiance, food was reasonably priced and the baked eggs were packed full of flavours!
A. T.
The Not Reuben is a must try! The Wagyu brisket is super melt in your mouth.
J. D.
Great place, but there is always a wait. It would be awesome if it were table service, or if staff took ordered for the people waiting to be seated.
V. B.
Cool Place ! although a bit pricey for what it offers, there are many others at a stone's throw that offer better value for the same kinda menu items and single origin coffee.
H. V.
Expect to wait on the weekend. Flavours are unique and worth waiting for. This cafe is your typical hipster spot. Coffee is yummy.
D. P.
#1 place in Surry Hills to grab long lasted brunches over the weekend. Amazing place, check it out
L. W.
Great service. Great coffee. Huge menu with interesting options. Decent servings. Would recommend.
N. A. C.
The service was good however expensive coffee when compared with other places in Surry Hills
W. H.
Awesome ambience and food. Must try the salted caramel shake and the fried chicken. Of course their coffee does not disappoint.
R. P.
The food was amazing, but to charge an extra 20% surcharge on a public holiday is a bit rich. If I had known that it was 20% then I would have come here another time.
I. K.
The venue is nice. Not very good for coffee, the food is average, but not cheap. All in all ok, but nothing special.
a.
Yum yum on this food ... BEST COFFEE! And really nice atmosphere.
I Recommend it for everyday of the week
J.
Such delicious and unique meals!! Definitely try the salted caramel milkshake, you’re welcome if you do!
L. F.
Came for the coffee... what a farce. Unexciting flavours in the $5 espresso of the day. For that price I'm not sure what I expected but what I got I could have bought at any two-bit cafe and got change from my fiver.
C. M.
The coffee is pretty good and they obviously pride themselves for a really effing good fried chicken. Read more on our blog ChopinandMysaucepan.
F. T.
Food is nice, just a little cold.. otherwise coffee is nice.
V. F.
This was okay. Had the "The Not Reuben" with yucca chips. It really wasn't an improvement on a standard Reuben sandwich and the yucca chips were a bit dry. Nothing to write home about.
T. B.
Top quality and good tasting coffee.
K. M.
Consistently great coffee and service! Hot spots like thia can get popular and slack off after a while but they are still excelling :)
G. K.
Comfortable cafe with really good coffee and friendly attentive staff. The food is just okay.
J. h.
used to be good, but not so sure about these days. id say there are many good cafes in Surryhills area. foods and coffees are alright but expensive, dont think its worth spending time waiting and paying more
A. R.
Fantastic food at a great price, and the namesake Rueben sandwich is thankfully delightful. They also know what a magic is. Brilliant.
S.
Whenever I visit Sydney this is the first place I visit. It's a short walk from Central Station. Great coffee, friendly and efficient service. It's always busy.
T. S.
Outstanding food. Great coffee. Lovely service. Cool space. Can't fault this place.
I. B.
Love this place. Great coffee, great food. Should be on everyone's list of cafes to visit.
S. W.
Good food menu, coffee is very good - one of the best cold brews I've had.
L. G.
Excellent and smooth coffee. Trendy interior.
A. W.
Nice atmosphere, good food and ok coffee. Tried a few times so it was just an overall average experience.
D. G. T.
Baked eggs nailing it. Single origin espresso spot on. Tasty tasty drip, sparkling. Lovely service, great music and energy
L. S.
Best coffee in Sydney with some great menu options. Can have a bit of a wait during the busy times.
E. K.
Overall experience: just ok.
Service: 7/10
Coffee: 8/10
Food: 4/10 - not my type of food
Ambiance: 8/10
Design: 8/10
Kids Friendly: No
J. F.
Really nice spot for a breakfast with friends. Short wait is normal. Try the milkshakes ;) A bit more on the pricey side.
N. G.
Great coffee and tasty breakfast. Had some really good baked eggs with beans on the side.
t. p.
Three words: Salted Caramel Milkshake. The rest is all good - fresh, tasty, with a great, slick and friendly yet still über cool vibe. Bucket list place.
T. S.
Awesome coffee and baked eggs.
Tried the fu**ing great fried chicken and avocado smash as well but wasn't impressed.
A. P. S.
Great coffee, great spot for a meeting and a conversation, friendly staff
G. L.
Nice little converted warehouse space. Stopped in for brunch - coffee is decent and the "Not Reuben" sandwich was delicious!
J. P.
One of the best breakfasts in Sydney and great coffee to complement. Latino and American influenced.
l. w.
The coffee was great. The interior decor is nice. However, the service is not good.
L. M.
Great coffee! Good food & lovely staff, a bit pricey but worth it.
D. M.
I really like this place, but it's a bit of an investment for breakfast. The food and coffee are always great.
J. T.
Food and shakes were excellent but the wait staff have a terrible attitude. Loved the Aero shake and the Not Reuben sandwich
