Comments of The Palace Tea Room
K. W.
I took my mum here for her birthday. We indulged in the high tea with a glass of bubbles. I am a huge lover of high teas, and I have been to many different places and I can honestly say that The Palace Tea Room tops the list so far. The staff were lovely and accomodating and the food was delicious. Sometimes with high teas you find some sweets that you don’t like, but everything was fresh and delicious. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, and there were only a few crumbs left at the end. I am looking forward to visiting again in the new year. I highly recommend this lovely tea room.
B. W.
Nice spot for catching up over breakfast, lunch or high tea.
The à la carte menu isn't extensive, but what they do offer is pretty good and should satisfy most. Prices are reasonable and affordable.
I recommend the Spanish Omelette which was delicious. The eggs benedict, while good, could have done with another piece of bread. The coffees are also decent.
There is seating inside and outside, although it's better inside as it's nicer and more comfortable. Staff are professional and service is good.
K.
Lovely atmosphere, decor and crockery. Friendly service. Just wished my eggs Benedict's were bigger - was only half a muffin with two eggs. Everything else seemed like decent portions.
S. G.
Loved their tea & varieties of food. Enjoyed with my whole family. A nice & quiet place to visit. Would recommend to anyone

I have dined in at The Palace Tea Room a few times and love the atmosphere of the Queen Victoria Building. The staff in the cafe are always patient and friendly and the selection of food and beverages on the menu is good. My favourite thing to order is the high tea which costs $60 per person and includes your choice of tea, one scone with jam and cream, a selection of cakes and sandwiches. All of them are absolutely delicious.
M. H.
Lovely luxurious setting inside the Queen Victoria Building, far more intimate than the larger tea rooms. Beautifully presented high tea. Options were available for those with specific dietary needs. A lovely range of savouries, scones and sweets. The sweets were light, zesty and full of flavour. An extensive range of teas were available as well as options of champagne and sparkling wine for those wanting that extra layer of decadence.
I. O.
Lovely tea with a wide selection to choose from. The scones & desserts are delicious & service is great, but I think my favourite part is the colourful plates and teapots (so cute!). It is a bit pricey but that's to be expected at a high tea venue. Definitely will be back!
C. R.
Came here for a high tea for Two and it was fantastic! Great selection of savoury and sweet foods, scones and sweets were delicious, sandwiches were light, and lots of options of tea to try, and staff are more than happy to refill your teapot with water. They cater to allergies and explain all the foods, not a long wait and a lovely atmosphere. Very filling for what it is and a really nice way to catch up. It's right inside the QVB so you can look at the shops before or afterwards. Highly recommend!

We had a reservation for 10:30 am on a Tuesday. Social distancing restrictions were in place, I think 15 people allowed inside? But there’s a lot of seating for 2-4 people outside the shop too. You have to check-in via QR code as you enter or be seated.
The place is so pretty - furniture well maintained in my opinion, and the tea sets were absolutely adorable. A small pet peeve of mine is when a place has dilapidated menus but that was not the case here. I got the traditional high tea, a flat white, and a Paris Vanilla tea to finish.
I honestly didn’t think I would be full by the end of the meal but I was stuffed. The petit fours were so good - complete glacé, sec, and salé. I loved the homemade jam to go with the scone.
Cant really complain about this place. Service waa excellent as well. Good job guys 👍🏼👍🏼
L. 4.
Food and service good. First pot of tea was hot, second pot lukewarm . I would have given another 🌟 if it was hot.
S.
Petite Four's & sandwiches & scones with fresh cream & jam. Very nice high Tea, just felt very rushed especially with staff reminding us we have 30mins then 15mins, clearing our table.. Bringing the bill to rush us even more, Wow I thought it was going to be a beautiful event. Not even the table above were being rushed like we were... Disappointing service..
I had high expectations 3 was for the food & Tea.
V.
Good service and ambience, but food is only okay.
C. B. K. L.
If you love tea time culture, you must know The Palace Tea Room. Good service & nice place for tea time with the girls. I tried both at the top and level 1. I feel 1 set for 1 person is too much with me so my advise if you have 2 people and dont want to waste the food, maybe just 1 set and extra dishes is enough.
T. K.
When you dine in this tea room, it makes you feel like you’re Queen’s grandchild. The food is on point and everything on the table looks like something from Buckingham Palace. I’ve enjoyed eating sandwiches, cakes & scones with cream + jam. It would’ve been great to eat more sandwiches, but that probably won’t look elegant so it was fine
P. G.
Inside this beautiful, historic & iconic Sydney building, this little tea room has a classic English feel with pretty colours, dainty China & tiered platters for high tea. Don't be fooled though as there is more then a high tea offering. Creative desserts, fluffy hotcakes, well poached eggs & delicious, mouth watering main meals such as vegetable lasagne & pulled pork are just some of the highlights. There is also a nice selection of tea both traditional & fruity will have you feeling pretty & dainty & like English royalty.
E. M.
Very lovely mandarin cake and vanilla tea, gorgeous setting at the top of the QVB. Staff were friendly enough. Quite overpriced though in my opinion, the cake and tea was a set for $17.
I continue to return because of the quality of the cakes and teas, and the lovely location.
F. F.
The best tea I’ve ever had. Top notch flat white. Excellent service and the food is delicious. Would come back even if the price is really high. Happy to pay for good service.
T. R.
Best scone I’ve had in years
C. R. C.
Pretty pretty pretty ❤️
Loving the perfect warm scones
And also their selection cakes!
YUM
Been there twice and definitely coming back
A. W.
Always a treat. Attentive but not overbearing staff; delectable eats (such as pancakes), and fine teas of various types, including glorious Orange Pekoe. Great view of the clock and its activities from the landing; upscale dining (including High Tea) inside the Tea Room. A real treat for the ultimate Queen Victoria Building experience.
A. K.
Beautiful litte tea room as an alternative to the big one upstairs. Very busy on weekends be sure to book. High tea kids high tea and champers high teas available
J. N.
The place is very nice, I love their pasta and burger. If you are the tea lover this place is the must! Warning: this place is popular so you might need to be patient.
J. T.
The scones here are absolutely delicious as they are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They have a variety of teas available to go with the scones as well. I come here for the scones and tea but this place also offers high tea and there are small sandwiches and cakes available. The cups and teacups they use are gorgeous. It's a nice place to catch up with friends but a little expensive. The service is good if you sit near the store but if you sit on the other side far away from the store then you can get neglected.
T. L.
The tiramisu I ordered was perfect. You can clearly taste the different layers of ingredients, with a hint of liqueur. It’s not too sweet, but very delectable!
G. C.
Classic old fashioned tea room serving high teas, breakfasts and lunches, tables overlooking the elegant Queen Victoria shops inside. The Devonshire tea i had was delicious with light and crunchy scones plenty of cream and jam
S. C.
Fine china, Victorian olde worlde charm and delicious tea time treats in the heart of the city. This is a convenient and affordable option if you fancy afternoon tea but not an entire tea stands worth! The Devonshire Tea (2 scones and a cuppa,) and the finger sandwiches always hit the spot. Service can be a bit hit and miss but the food and surrounds more than make up for it. Be sure to score a seat in the dining room, sitting outside in the QVB corridors just isn't the same!
K.
Came here for high tea for the first time in my life. Enjoyed the high tea here. Nice ambience and friendly service.
B. L.
A very classy place to have High Tea, for our Bride to Be and the service was outstanding plus all served food was delicious and fresh! Scones and sandwiches are a delight and the sweet delicacy a perfect size to relish and enjoy!!! They gave Option to add sides and I recommend additional sides of spinach, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado, scrambled eggs on sour dough bread and Irish tea is best to have with it all! Even hashbrowns with dill were delicious in taste and portion!
E.
Great vibes and atmosphere. High tea was perfect for sharing and was nice. Scones were yummy and the sandwiches were delicious. Some of the desserts could be better like the marshmallow one but it was good in terms of customer service and they took good care of us.
Price is a little bit expensive but for high tea in QVB that’s what you would expect. Great experience though .
G. G.
Beautiful ambience and teaware. Traditional high tea was great, food was delicious but tea was a little plain.
M. J.
A really nice experience for High Tea.
The food was lovely and came very quickly and whilst the tea took a long time to come, the tea menu had a good selection and was delicious. Plus, the pricing for the high tea is appropriate.
I booked ahead to dine inside as oppose to on the mezzanine area and this feels more like an occasion. Not as grand as I hear The Tea Rooms at QVB are but still a really nice afternoon.
K. B.
Excellent fresh scones with tasty jam and clotted cream. Fragrant teas and lovely surroundings. The sandwiches are fresh (bread was a tad thick, if I'm being picky). Really enjoyable place to catch up with friends.
D. Y.
Been a few time’s and can only speak to the Devonshire tea but the service is always excellent and scones Devine. Best in Sydney!
J. D.
Great selection of teas & cakes etc... set in a iconic building. Great service & relaxed atmosphere.
R. T.
It's rare seeing wait-staff in traditional black & white with black bowties and aprons but this added a touch of class and the service was excellent. We were very satisfied with our breakfast choices, I got perfectly poached eggs. Overall the prices were reasonable too. Would come again if I'm visiting the QVB
S. T.
We had a lovely morning tea here recently before an afternoon of shopping in the city. We enjoyed fingers sandwiches, savoury bites and hand made petit fours with freshly brewed tea served in beautiful, floral china cups and saucers. The serving sizes were generous, the food was fresh and delicious and the atmosphere delightful. A lovely experience.
정.
I was not hungry to eat something like sandwich or toast. So I ordered Iced chocolate. Awesome!! Antic atmosphere ! Next time , I will have a brunch here with my bf.👏
R. B.
Overall the service is pretty slow and the food is pretty basic. Ok coffee.
K. H.
Gf scones! And fabulous choice of teas. Wonderful, attentive staff
P. C.
Absolutely wonderful experience, even when sitting out in the QVB walkway! Staff were friendly, happy and very accommodating. The food and the tea were both wonderful too - just enough food in a high tea for two people where we both walked away full! Good spot to go for a special occasion.
N. T.
High quality, well priced food and drinks. Great location in the QVB.
P. B.
Coffee is good. Relaxing atmosphere. If you are paying $4.50 for a coffee I see little point in paying an extra $15.50 for 2 scones , jam and cream.
j. B.
Lovely high Tea. Great sandwich fingers and petite fours. All served on Royal Albert china. Classy! Great coffee and Selection of Teas.
H. C.
We had a lovely experience here. Our servers were exceptional. We had earl grey tea and finger sandwiches, both delicious. A bit expensive but worth the price if you want to spoil yourselves a bit. We will definitely return next time we are in Sydney.
S. B.
Just love coming here for some Devonshire tea in the afternoons. Such beautiful crockery and so many teas to select from. The wait staff are just so friendly and attentive and the scones are just to die for definitely making this place my regular. 😍
S. T.
We had over 12 people in our party for a high tea session and we needed to pay in advance for the booking. They were great with our dietary requirements and reconfirmed everyone’s needs when we arrived. The selection of sweets were alright and the savory dishes were pretty average. They had great service of refilling our teas throughout and offered boxes for us to take home our leftovers. They helped us take photos and were very considerate throughout.
M. B.
Excellent high tea. My wife can't have gluten or dairy and they still managed to over-deliver some amazing treats. Great service too, all the staff are very pleasant.
N. T.
Fresh scones served on beautiful crockery and a wide variety of tea to choose from. Great to also admire the QVB while enjoying your afternoon.
S. F.
Our favorite weekend treat, we only go here for their dessert and tea, so good!!
S. K.
Great selection of teas, our group chose three types today and all of them were good. We also had a piece of cheesecake which we had a problem with but our waitress resolved it easily. I have taken a star off due to difficulty of getting service, we first walked up to try and order as no one was around and then told to go wait back at the table. When we realised there was a problem with the cake we waited a good 15mins trying to get attention. There was a male staff member who tried his very best to avoid us, even acknowledging my husband with a nod and then walking straight past our table 5 seconds later.
I. R.
Do you want a true High Tea Experience? Come here!!!! Do not go anywhere else. The scones are sooo warm the creme and jams are out of this world(I tried to find many before my restaurant to the states) and the environment was amazing! Please make your way here. The tea options are fantastic. The only thing is that there is always a line but ....nothing great is easy or quick to get! And the prices are fantastic! After going here we went to others places and they did not compare
M. T.
We had a lovely afternoon tea here on boxing day. Food was good, although service severely lacking. Once our food and drinks had been delivered no one came near us to check if everything was okay or needed water refilled. When asked about tea/coffee choice for afternoon tea I declined as I don't drink either (my husband does) and was told it was included, i explained i don't drink either and the waiter seemed a bit annoyed - no alternative drink was offered. Also quite expensive, afternoon tea for two with wine came to $103 (including surcharge for public holiday) - i feel that instead of individual pricing for afternoon tea they could offer a slightly discounted rate for two perhaps
G. K.
Nice and lovely fine China tea set. Food was okay, love the scones. Average services. Lack of services to be precise. There were no one to get me the bill so I had to walk in ask for one. When I walked in the lady ( who looks like the owner or Manager) thought I was asking for menu, so she brushed me off.... twice!! I needed to walk in to main shop to ask for a bill. They barely had staff to look after outside seaters. Not particular impressed with their service.
S. E.
Lovely gf menus and great selection of teas. Got charged $27 for 2 scones, 1 tea and a hot chocolate, because the manager told us that the $20 deal for "two scones plus tea or coffee" was only for TWO SCONES and ONE drink. What? Even though there were two of us? We only got the cheaper hot chocolate as part of the $20 deal and had to pay $7 FOR ONE CUP OF TEA. Ridiculous and unfair. Haven't been back, which is a shame because the cakes and scones are lovely.
D. A.
I really like this place. It has a great selection of teas and breakfast, snacks and lunch menu. The coffee is very nice and Chef's cake of the day never disappoints. (Different cake each week) The atmosphere is relaxing with soft jazz music in the background. The staff are friendly with overall good customer service. Will definitely visit again soon!
C. P.
Heavenly
Booked online day before
Youll get balcony unless you call for inside which books very quickly
Ask for table away from entrance if sun bothers you
Food and service sheer perfection
Management a pleasure
Delicious high tea and kids high tea
Would like to see extra sandwich option or more options to add savoury level
Perhaps a kids menu too
But on the whole sat and forgot all our cares for two hrs to celebrate a bday
P. C.
Really liked this place. Laid back atmosphere, friendly staff and great scones and tea. We had the Devonshire tea and at $18.00 each we expected a lot and we got it! 2 massive scones, homemade jam, lashings of real cream and delicious tea. All in gorgeous crockery. Definitely need to book if there's more than 2 people though, the 4 seater tables go quickly.
M. C.
Ok service, ok food, ok scones, ok atmosphere. Can't really fault them but can't really praise them either. The decor and carpet and curtains are a bit too old and dusty. I was a bit uncomfortable sitting right next to the cloth curtain. Not memorable but not bad.
A. N.
Stumbled upon this place while looking for somewhere to eat lunch in the City. Friendly staff and great, tasty food.
Loved the Devonshire Tea and would recommend to anyone.
S. C.
The teas and coffee was amazing. We have lunch at a different restaurant within the queen Victoria building and I think we made a mistake. The food that was coming out looked and smelled amazing. For sure we will be back to try out the amazing menu that they have.
j. g.
Great location at the QVB And good food and friendly service 👌
G. C.
After some serious shopping this is a great place to enjoy high tea with an amazing selection of teas. An opulent La De Da experience.
B. H.
Wow, they don't deserve only 2.9 stars. I'm surprised at the comments about the poor service as we have been to The Palace probably 25 times now over the past four years and never had a bad experience with the staff.
Why do we come so often? This cafe has the best scones in Sydney! And a great tea selection. Their food is okay, a little overpriced, but that's what you get when you're in QVB.
My advice would be to come for an afternoon tea and scones, and avoid the food. My favourite is Devonshire Tea with French Vanilla.
M. R.
Great food and awesome service and ambience !
R. K.
Smart food with a beautiful outlook.
We loved the open sandwiches. The tahini dressing with the Chicken has a great smoky note and the Vegetarian is particularly good with a zippy pesto and beautiful soft curd to go with it. Try it with a glass of the Pinot Gris.
My wife loved the fresh Orange and Lime juice.
The restaurant was busy, but our service was cheerful and efficient.
We'd happily go back.
K. F.
It's hard to know where to start with the Palace Tea Room.
It was the second choice for High Tea (favouring the Tea Rooms at QVB) - but we persisted with optimism anyway.
There have been many reviews criticising the service - however I'm not going there as I found the service adequate.
The three stars comes solely from the menu.
High Teas come at a premium ($35 per person) and as such you expect a high standard of food. Individually - the food was great - when served in combination - it simply didn't work.
There wasn't enough of the savoury (sandwiches etc) and too much of the decadent sweet things. Maybe this array of ever-so-frivolous foodie delights (quoting their website) would work for other people. It certainly didn't work for me or my group.
More sandwiches & more scones and less of the sweet cakes / Petit fours would go a long way to make this an afternoon to remember,
L. L.
Lovely tea room serving on contemporary Wedgewood tea service. Plenty of food is you're hungry, or if you'd like to take your time and savour the variety of treats. Great range of teas on the tea menu, and good service.
V. N.
High tea for good value, Price: $44-58pp. I like how it is more casual for high tea and you can walk in without a booking :)

The Palace Tea Room is a formal tea room within the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney. Book or ask for a table at the comfortable seating inside, or seat yourself at the wooden tables and chairs arrayed around the promenade with a view of the hanging clock and the QVB's arcade roof. Beware though: the further away you are seated from the actual tea room, the more likely you will be forgotten by the waiters. This is a bit of a shame as otherwise the service is excellent.
The Palace Tea Room offers an extensive selection of their own house-blended teas served in fine china (I recommend the house speciality Paris Vanilla). Throughout the day they offer formal morning tea, Devonshire teas and a high afternoon tea. Well worth a visit on a day trip to the CBD.
A. K.
I had a wonderful mother's day lunch at The Palace. The staff were extremely attentive and flexible with my requests. I would certainly recommend The Palace to anyone looking for a regular lunch spot or a nice afternoon tea catch up with the girls!
A. T.
A friend and I went for lunch and the food was beautifully presented in generous portions (I had the eggplant roulade, she the pulled pork sandwich). They serve Harney & Sons loose-leaf tea using Royal Albert teaware in some exciting blends—highly recommended. I have been here for high tea before and the service was unobtrusive and pleasant both times, and we never had the feeling of being rushed. This is a well-appointed tea room in the historic QVB, a nice central location for a civilised meal.
d. d.
We have the tea, scones and the sandwiches. Everything was delish! We look forward to coming back
K. S.
A favourite meeting spot to catch up with girlfriends. You can order a full high tea, or just your favourite element (sandwiches, cakes, or scones) with a tea if you want a lighter snack. They also have a full lunch menu, and cater for gluten free options (so you don't have to miss out on scones!)
J. K.
Great breakfast and staff .. happy to recommend
E. D.
When you mention the tea room at the QVB most people think of the function venue on level 3 where you can do a beautiful high tea but not many people realise that there is another tea room on level 1. They also serve high tea in a decadent setting. On this occasion we just had tea and scones. We sat outside which I loved as we got to leisurely admire the beautiful QVB and people watch as we sipped our tea. The scones were delicious but my husband thought there wasn't enough cream. I don't like a lot of cream so I fine with the amount we got. The huge selection of tea is a tea lovers dream and the gorgeous tea cups and saucers make The Palace tea room the ideal place for a spot of tea.
H. N.
This is a must visit for anyone who enjoys a good high tea. They can accommodate for some dietary residents.
K. G.
Been here twice, the service is wonderful and the food is delicious. I had the high tea (afternoon tea) and it's great value. The sandwiches are so tasty!
C. P.
Love the food. My friend and I meet once or twice a year here. They don't see us often but we enjoy ourselves when we do come. Love the high tea
H. M.
Exceptional venue, good food and below-average service. I was spammed by email and SMS to remind me of a booking that I myself made but, on the day itself, the staff didn't even try to remember something as basic as what we ordered, instead having to ask us again.
L. B.
They have a huge selection of teas and the best scones in Sydney! I recommend getting the Devonshire tea so you can sample them both 🙂
T. M.
Great selection of teas, scones are perfect and the sandwiches we had were lovely. Everything was very fresh and delicious.
I. P.
The staff were really helpful & the scones were tasty but sometimes it could be a little busy .
J. H.
Average for what you pay. If you're going too charge high prices and wear formal clothing to serve at least make your food to match the presentation. Also ran out of oranges and apples for juice and forgot my coffee.
D. H.
Delicious, beautifully presented salmon cakes for lunch. Lovely staff.
G. R.
Good scones. Quality pancakes. The waitress laughed at my boyfriends jokes which was very impressive as he isn't as funny as he yhinks he is.I wasn't NUTS about the granolla, but overall good family fun.
M. K.
Great location and attentive staff. The cakes are delicious and I’d recommend a window view
V. C.
Fresh watermelon juice is delicious! Fast service and great to take clients anytime. Inside tables near the windows are lovely. I highly recommend it.
K. B.
I really love this place, so beautiful and worth a visit. Great Service, nice atmosphere, and outstanding food. Highly recommended.
L.
Scones are very nice and the tea was really good. A little overpriced but the taste and atmosphere makes up for it :)
M. S.
Eggs Benedict Salmon and sides of spinach and mushroom were really delicious, tasted perfect. Warm, professional style service.
L. B.
I have visited The Palace Tea Room on a number of occasions and the food and service has always been top notch. Lovely surroundings for breakfast, lunch or coffee and a sweet treat :)
J. J.
I came here recently for lunch and really enjoyed my time. The food was nice and the service was great. I am planning on coming back with the girls for high tea :)
E.
They brought stale scones and the jam was not fresh. Unfriendly staff
S. M.
Nice space to rest your legs during a shop at QVB and enjoy a bite to eat with a cuppa.

Very good breakfast here today,
Bit pricey for small portions which is expected though being in that location

Enjoy the selection of teas here especially the detox tea..

Loved & relished the chicken salad which was perfectly ample & the plate was not overstuffed. The Pinot Noir was just superb. I love it when the wine glasses are scrupulously clean & the wine smells & tastes delicious. The service is also courteous & professional. Totally worth having high tea or lunch here. Strongly recommended. Definitely visiting again when I’m in the city next.

(Translated) The scones and jam are delicious.
The cream has a milky feel and seems to have different tastes. There are many types of tea, but Earl Gray was normal. Or rather, why is it lukewarm?

クリームは、ミルクっぽい感じで好みが分かれそう。紅茶は種類多いけど、アールグレイは普通でした。というか、ぬるいのは何故?

(Translated) Chicken steak is delicious! !! !! (Fried Chicken Steak with Tomato Sauce) Afternoon Tea (only two layers of QQ) Each dessert and snack are also delicious, but the tea is quite good in comparison But because the chicken steak and afternoon tea are so delicious, I still give 5 points! !! !!

(Translated) High tea is famous at a tea shop with tables lined up in the aisle of the shopping center. The sweets on the three-tiered plate are sandwiches, scones, petit cakes, macaroons, etc. I had it instead of a late lunch, but I was hungry.
