Pretty good spot in the heart of Canberra. I tasted the half rack of ribs, which was quite generous, and included cabbage slaw and potato wedges with sour cream. I had the hot and spicy BBQ sauce option which to be honest I wouldn't have again, I think the plain BBQ would be a better idea. Still it was a tasty meal, and I was impressed at how I could order from the beer garden via my phone and they bought drinks and meals right to the table. I'd be happy to eat here again. Kids meal options were pretty good too, the kids enjoyed schnitzel and fish and chips.

Very enjoyable meal and excellent service. Right from when I walked in the person at the door could tell I was a first timer to the place so showed me around me. I had dinner at The Grill. The steak was sensational and an excellent choice of sides with sauces no extra charge. The staff were friendly and supportive. A must place to have a meal and for those who drink (I don't) a sensational beer garden.

I like it here. One of the few places in ACT that feels like a real good old pub. Food is great (comment based on medium rare scotch fillet Jan 22! ).There is a section of the hotel for all moods too. Outside sun or shade; inside - natural light; or inside cocktail bar type lighting. And no pokies or tab!

I had an extremely large piece of Angus for under $30. I asked for medium and it was cooked to exactly medium and not over or under salted. It wasn't the tastiest, (compared to my previous experiences) but certainly a hearty slab of meat with more than your daily requirement of iron and B vitamins. It's a shame you can't cook it yourself; this massive part of Canberra foodie culture is now dead. Kingo's utopian past will forever live on in the nostalgic memories of its patrons/gourmands. The best part of the meal was the bread roll with Pepe Saya butter. I wonder if they still have those these days. Just like Renee Zelweger getting plastic surgery, this restaurant has lost some character and now resembles all the others But the industry is fickle and I understand the pressure to get a fresher look. However, is it worth coming back to? Yes.

What’s great place, spontaneous weekend away with 5 adults and 5 children under 4, turned up Saturday evening around 5pm with no booking, booked out but we were able to sit at a table until the booking arrived around 7pm. Food exceptional with selections of meats to cook yourself with bottomless salad. Pasta were great and large serves, prices were affordable for the quality of food. Beers were cold, place was buzzing with family’s eating and enjoying the warm atmosphere. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend. Good job

First night back since lockdown... They've renovated and the gas fire and dark wood panelling are nice... but I've been coming here for 30+ years and it has never been for the decor. The steaks were fab. Their flavour was the best in Canberra and I didn't mind cooking my own to have that first "oh yum" bite. Now the grill is gone and your steak is cooked in the kitchen (seriously, if I'd wanted that option then I went to Maddie's). The food is a seriously good average. There is nothing special about it and despite them telling me it's the same meat it certainly doesn't taste like it. I could get the same meal at more than 20 other local establishments and probably will in the future. In modernising The Kingo has lost that "it" factor that made it special and I won't be rushing back 😔

My partner and I are in love with the meat cuts available. You have the option to select, purchase and cook your own meat (comes with all you can eat salad bar),in a separate dining room next door to the bistro. We tried it and had a blast!!! The staff are so friendly and smile a lot, which is great to see. They are so polite and eager to assist you if needed.

Took my mum here for her birthday dinner. From the time I booked to when it came time for the mean, the staff were accommodating and polite. The food was upper class pub grub and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. My steak was cooked perfectly and the sticky Date Pudding was delicious.

I came here on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. It was absolutely packed. We managed to find a table in a quieter part of Maddie's Restaurant. I noticed the staff were quite busy, but were still able to accommodate us. I liked the decor and the food was decent, but I wouldn't come here for a quiet meal.

Very large servings and very tasty. The room is very loud. You can choose to sit in the normal dining room or go to the "cook your own" side where there are large barbeque-like hot plates and you get to stand around and do your own thing with the steak/chicken/etc.

A great pub and food was also great with the portions being of just the right size. So many times you go to pubs or clubs and the servings are huge the Kingston Hotel did is just right. The bonus with the Kingston is that you can take your puppy with you (outside only of cause) and they have a dog menu. Winner 😊

Well I'd hadn't been to the downstairs function room' before,and what a great ambience there to greet us. The decor done 'back to the past' style,made one smile and just unwind. The choice of items on the menu was great...the other half had one of the blackboard specials "Swordfish with a quinoa salad', whilst I indulged in 'Calamari on a salad' main. Both were exceptional. Later I indulged in 'Apple & Rhubarb pie with ice cream and hot custard' (made fresh as there was a 25min wait). This was outstandingly well made with just about the right amount of tartness!

The Kingston Hotel or the Kingo as it is known by locals is a great southside pub in Canberra. Friendly service. All the typical pub food you would expect. Normal beer. A great beer garden. It is worth a visit if you are looking for a non pretentious traditional pub.

Great venue. Really good casual pub with great beer options for every palate. Their restaurant does an awesome DIY grill: choose your cut (beef, lamb, sausage, chicken, fish) head on over to the big char pit and cook to your liking. Their cuts are very reasonable for the price ($24 for a rib fillet about 300g). Then load up on their complimentary salad bar and you’ve got your own BBQ pub. Staff are super friendly. Venue is clean. Will recommend and come back when in town.

A vibrant pub, this venue seems to cater to most occasions. I've been many times and always enjoy cooking my own steak on the indoor grills or a game of pool in the back room. Have more than once had a late night here and always feel welcome and have a great time.

This is a lovely hotel that I like to visit for it uniqueness. An older building with lots of character. We enjoyed a Sunday afternoon with friends playing pool beside the fire. The meals are nice, however the Caesar salad is over priced and lot really a good Caesar salad. It doesn't have anchovies, only anchovy sauce, no poached egg on top.

A decent pub that gets the basics right in an area of Canberra that tries too hard. Never had a bad steak or Parma here, and with the regular delivery of Carlton Draught you can’t go wrong coming here for a feed and beer on a Friday night. There’s always plenty of room outside, upstairs, or in the cosy bistro.

Cool pub. Love the warmth inside on a cold Canberra night. The food was okay, decent variety but limited vegetarian options. We had to edit a chicken salad to get a decent vegetarian dinner which is one reason I took a star off. The other star came off because the men's toilets are a pure disgrace. Hygiene is a real issue.

Great family-friendly option for us, we get there every few weeks. Lovely old building, nice to have these spaces in Canberra where we seem so quick to knock down our history and build uninspiring new mixed-use buildings (hi Braddon). Food can be a little hit and miss to be honest, but I still love going here. Beer garden is beautiful on sunny days, lots of plants and easy access to the bar.

Not because the drinks are anything special, not because it's cheap, the parma is soggy, the pasta is oily, the wedges come with half as much sour cream as you need, and they charge you for extra. Exceptional Venue in a great location with friendly staff. The highlight of the venue is definitely the grill your own fish, steak , chicken, or pork. Season your desired piece of meat and cook it to your preference. A small salad bar is included with the meal. Generally there is not a huge variety just the basics. Greek salad, pasta salad, beetroot, and potato salad. Plus a bread roll. I've personally been here a number of times now and its always quiet busy even at lunch time with the tradies. I can definitely see why... its a great sized meal at a resible price. Highly recommend and look forward to returning back soon

I like the vibe that they provide however I think that they have missed the mark a little in terms of what they offer. This is definitely just my opinion but I think being in a suburb as affluent as Kingston I would expect a much more diverse beer selction, with a few more craft beers. Had lunch at Maddie's. The meals were good, we ordered the mushroom risotto as a main, the grilled chicken salad and steak and kidney pie. The pie was tasty with chucks of steak in the pie. The chicken salad was fresh and light. The rissotto was ok some of the mushrooms were a bit tough but that could be the variety of mushroom. It is nice sitting out on the verandah under the vines.

Honestly, the bar is great and they have some fantastic beers and staff, but this place really, absolutely needs a facelift. I’m afraid I just have to disagree with the general consensus and say that the environment and atmosphere the pub was dismal, bleak and very stale. I will note the food is fantastic though. Some of the pool tables are rugged and ripped, the cue sticks are literally almost all broken, and are of a really cheap make and quality (just as the tables themselves); the floor literally is uneven and has random slopes (directly underneath the pool tables as well...) and the decor is absolutely ancient and degraded and the whole place smells like a nursing home. Don’t even get me started about the poker machines (not slot machines or anything, but ancient poker machines) that are so unrewarding in terms of gameplay and return that it’s perplexing they’re even still keeping them there. The reason I’m not allocating only 1 star to the Kingston Hotel is because damn, they can cook. The food here is absolutely fantastic, in both the takeaway beside the pub, and the whole DIY grill restaurant. Again, the decor is outdated and totally unacceptable here too, but it’s almost worth it just for the food, and the friendly staff. Almost. Believe me when I say there are better places to get yourself a cold one.

The place is now in 2014 the same as remembered from the late 1970s and need not update which would spoil the way-it-was atmosphere. Pick your own meat and cook it sort of place or the restaurant for pasta or the bar for drinks and pool or the pokies.... This place is about as close as Canberra comes to a proper pub. A bit dingy, pool tables, cook your own steak, stale smelling carpet. A compelling mix of politicians a I sitting weeks, tradies, political a hacks and public servants. What's not to love?! Well, I mean the price of beer isn't loveable, and the restaurant is also pretty expensive, so that's two things not to like. But on a sunny Sunday afternoon in summer, the Kingo's beer garden is hard to beat.
