I arrived at the hostel in July and they found me work straight away! The staff were accommodating and lovely! I met some amazing people and will have these memories for life! The work is great! Very very hard but the money is good for farm work and you make 7 days per week usually! Recommend this hostel to all! :)

I really enjoyed my stay here!
Yes, the work can be hard but it’s well paid and you get your weekends free.
It’s in a beautiful location, where you can go to wineries on the weekend or go on a walk up to the viewpoint and sculpture park, maybe seeing some kangaroos on the way. Tanunda is also a lovely little town - I would highly recommend visiting the Red Door cafe.
Emma and Jackie are lovely - I even cried when I said goodbye - so you’ve always got a little safety net if you’re worried about anything while you’re travelling Australia.
All in all I can say with 100% certainty that this was a life-changing experience.

Barossa backpackers was a lovely place to stay, the management was particularly understanding and caring and was always aloud to help people especially when you have young travellers mess things up for themselves with employment. The facility’s were nice as well.. would deffo recommend to anyone

Pretty nice for a Backpacker Hostel. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great location in the heart of the Barossa wine region. Various work available throughout the year.
Enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back to stay again if I was to come back to the area.

Stayed here from November 2017 to March 2018.
Basically all people staying in this hostel are working holiday people under 30 trying to get their second year visas. The hostel hires people to mainly potato/onion factories where the salary is usually around 20$/h. New people arriving to the hostel go at the bottom of a work waiting list and usually get work from the factories in two weeks. I got hired in two days, but some people had to wait for THREE WEEKS to start work (the hostel staff doesn't always know if there's work available, yet promise to find you a job "very soon"). The work in the factories is simple (usually packing and stacking potato creates/sacks for boys and grading for girls) and you don't have to do your 2nd year visa work under a burning sun. The many vineyards around Barossa also hire backpackers but you usually need to find grape picking jobs on your own.
The amount of work different people get in the factories isn't balanced. Some people work five days a week, and some only three or even two days a week! If you don't get enough work in one factory, just change to another!
Sometimes one of the factories (Virginia Farm Produce) randomly fires around ten people and then instantly hires other new ten people! For no apparent reason! They only do casual contracts so they don't even need to tell you that you're not working in the factory anymore. This happened to me TWO WEEKS before I was about to leave so I had no way of getting steady work before my departure (most jobs do 3-month contracts).
The HOSTEL itself isn't too bad. There's a lot of mosquitoes, but the showers and toilets work and are clean. There's a tv-room with a broken PS3, most people plug their computers to the tv to watch movies.
The kitchen is very often very dirty and crowded but they have free pans and pots for you to use. They have containers for dry foods and fridges that are usually full.
It seems like most locking systems in the lockers are broken and the doors to the rooms are always open so sometimes a beer or two might disappear if you're not careful.
The wifi in the hostel definitely IS NOT FREE, it costs 4$ for 5 hours and for the most of the time doesn't even work. There is a library 5 minute walk away that has free wifi and good computers. Foodland is also 5 minite walk away. The hostel also rents vans so if you need Hungry Jack's or cigarettes, you can drive to Nuriootpa (10 min drive away). You can also do free wine tastings in the many wineries around the area.
Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park (20 min drive away) is also worth seeing. Go there during sunset and you'll see A LOT OF KANGAROOS. Rifle Range Road, the road that goes there, is very scenic so be ready to take some pictures.
This place is very good for meeting new people. The atmosphere is chill and all people I've met here have been really friendly. The parties are good, but if you're planning to sleep on saturday-sunday nights, be ready to use earplugs.
