D. S.Great place for a break. Good accommodation stayed in Putney place. Couple of issues with power supply but it's an island so completely understand. Friendly staff great drinks and food. Would recommend to all to visit before the rest of the world finds out how good it is.
J. W.What a beautiful place. This is a relaxed tropical island and not a five star resort, if you accept and understand this, then you will see the place is magical. Our cabin had just been refurbished, it was clean, comfortable and quite nice. The restaurant and bar area has the most magical view, the food is up market pub grub, really good and a great atmosphere. The staff were exceptional, so helpful and good to deal with. The resort is a bit tired, but you didn’t come here for the resort, you are coming because the island is just magnificent. We plan to go back.
J. P.Before I say anything I want to say that Great Keppel island is an incredible place to visit, it’s a privilege to stay there. We had 3 nights in a garden room. I think it’s fair to state that the accommodation isn’t luxury, it’s not even basic, lacking things like towel rails, bedside tables and lights. But I’m giving the place a 5* review because the place has this funny vibe that made me feel like I didn’t want to leave. We did the food package which was good value and the food of a good standard. Our drinks were mixed by the gorgeous Brandy who like most of the staff were very friendly and engaging. Don’t go expecting Hamilton Island, it’s the other end of things but it’s rustic and fun. You will love it and the Island even more… it’s a very happy place.

A beautiful, tropical island! Beautiful, clear, azure waters. Coconut palms abound. Great walks, beaches, swimming, snorkelling and diving.
Our cabin was freshly renovated but take note of the following - limited cooking facilities in the cabin with only an electric frypan, microwave and no stove top. A small, gas cartridge, single burner camp stove wouldn't go astray. This did not bother us as we were not going to cook anyway. No iron, so the wrinkly linen shirts stayed in the suitcase. Only one extremely bright fluoro light in the room, so highly recommend taking a small mood light to enhance the atmosphere. Showering is with quite salty bore water, so bring your own quality soap as the soap supplied does not foam up at all.
The restaurant/bar(shoes are optional) serves good, fresh, decent sized breakfast/lunch/dinner pub style meals at relatively cheap island prices of $22 - $38 for a dinner meal.
All the staff were very friendly and efficient(for island staff).
The water taxi drop off service to remote beaches for a few hours, at only $10 return per person, is great value and gets you away from the main beach dwellers.
Make sure you take a shade device such as an umbrella as shade is limited on the beaches and they don't 'miss' with the hiring.
Shops are very limited - you cannot purchase any groceries on the island. You can purchase the basics - alcohol, soft drinks, ice creams, snack food, tourist items.
To conclude - you get what you pay for! Great Keppel Island is not the place if you're looking for a 'high end' resort island holiday. It is a lovely, tropical Queensland island that every one should experience. Ideal for budget concious families.
l. b.Beautiful stay and absolutely lovely staff. Brandy and Darron had sick recommendations for things to do on the island. Even scored some aloe for our sunburn. The maintenance staff were awesome too. Shout out to John who gave us a ride along the beach with our bags when we were running late for the ferry.
M. C.Was very nice on the Island but the trip over, bumpy ride was so scary. We were all sick and nauseated by the time we arrived. Waves were so big. Coming back was okay.
P. S.We only stayed for two nights at the Hideaway. It was a fantastic experience. The rooms are humble, I would not classify them as luxury, but definitely comfortable.
We didn't take food, but there is a camp kitchen and the Hideaway does Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, including an all inclusive food price if you wish.
There is a band playing at the bar most weekends.
This place is all about the location. Great Keppel Island is amazing. So many white sandy beaches, some amazing coral reef and plenty of trekking for those who want to do that.
I'd highly recommend this place for a short or long stay.
K. c.Great Keppel Hideaway is a back to basic Resort.The food from the bistro was delicious with generous servings. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Keppel dive staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We loved staying near the beautiful beach and look forward to coming back.

The current accommodation prices are very reasonable, even for the beachfront cabins. I'm guessing this is because the place is in the process of being repaired and getting overdue maintenance.
The island has lots of wildlife including curlews and echidnas interacting with visitors.
The water is clear and turquoise and the coral and fish appear healthy and varied.
The areas outside the Hideaway appear to not be being maintained. The old resort is abandoned and derelict but full of wildlife. The bush walks have not been maintained and it is easy to get a bit lost. You can hear peacocks in amongst the Aussie native animals and apparently the island has lots of goats too.
So some of this island's charm is due to its lack of luxury and brand new furnishings.
L. B.Great keppel island is amazing to visit! The Hideaway is another thing. I would not stay here again. Our cabin smelt of sewerage and we to keep the bathroom door closed to help contain the smell. The room its self need a good clean and attention too. The morning we were leaving asked if we could have a late checkout and wete promptly told no without even asking our number.
d. w.We stayed in The Hideaways Garden Rooms for two nights and the accommodation is basic but clean and suits the vibe of the island - a place you want to feel part of, not a blot on. The rooms have no TVs either as the ethos is to get away from it all but there is a 4G signal if you really must connect.
The staff were very helpful, cheerful, and knowledgable, can't fault them at all.
What surprised us was the quality of the food in the bistro, it was very good, portion sizes were on point and the steaks cooked to perfection, Just watch out for Kookaburra as one had a couple of tries at my lunch!
If you are looking for a back-to-nature stay to kick back and chill or to take part in some of the wide variety of activities available on the island you'll not be disappointed.

L. T.Stayed here for 4 night. Rooms were below average with the shower hot water not working on the first night. Room had a strange smell also. We waited 1hr 10min for 1 fish and 1 portion of chips at the restaurant, ended up cancelling and getting a refund. On the contrary the staff were friendly.

W. S.It is a beautiful place. Food was very good, service was very good. It is a very long and very tiring walk to Monkey beach. Unfortunately it was a bit windy when we went so the snorkelling wasn't all good. The water was freezing, on top off your body being very hot from walking cramps and more cramps😪😪so I had to eventually abandon the snorkelling.😪😪but the Island is just beautiful. We went on the 14th of August 2021.

M. P.Pulled into a beautiful anchorage at Great Keppel Island after being at sea for two weeks as part of a Yacht delivery. I was in desperate need of some sort of civilisation, cocktails and restaurant food. I jumped out of the tender and walked up the white sandy beach and found Great Keppel Island Hideaway. I found a seat at the bistro overlooking the ocean and islands and started ordering. Krakken Rum with ginger beer, Margaritas and the rest! Oysters that were so very fresh, crab bao and mornay scallops. Drinks flowed all afternoon with absolutely exceptional service. All staff were switched on and engaged. True retro setout with barefoot sandy customers enjoying the band and 80s nostalgic vibe. Very very pleased with this place.... Back to the yacht ⛵.

The accommodation is not luxurious and is a bit tired and could use some updating.. But didn’t come here to spend time in my room. The prices are very reasonable also.
The opportunities for outdoor enjoyment are amazing, for all the family, experienced adventurer to young children.
I found the staff to be very helpful and every interaction was positive. They seemed to love what they do and loved to help make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
The meals were very generous also.

N. P.Good atmosphere. Food is not bad and it is understandable that prices are higher than mainland. Though things like a $10 card minimum than charging $2 for a little sauce makes for an annoying experience. Not being told at the time of ordering my meal and then having to go back and order something over $10 to get a bit of tomato sauce. Overall good experience, location definitely makes it nice.
C. M.Keppel Island is a very beautiful island! The hotel was good but I do believe they have some things to improve on. When we arrived the receptionist had a slightly rude tone when explaining that the room was not done. We waited over 2 hours to get the room and the housekeeping staff were seen playing on their phones instead of cleaning rooms. When we finally got the room it was pleasant and of decent size. However, the bathroom had a very bad smell of drainage which persisted throughout our stay. The walls need a bit of a paint job too as they where yellowish colour from white. The kitchen area was great! Very spacious, clean and many facilities to use. Over all not bad but there are some things to change to make it great!!

D. W.The island is just beautiful. The office staff were helpful. We stayed in two joined family rooms with a shared toilet and there is a large communal kitchen which is well equipped.
The bistro has meals and they were ok. The music during dinner was way too loud, we had to scream at each other to communicate. Not very relaxing. Finished dinner and bolted back to our rooms. Even in the morning when you go to grab a coffee the music does not invite you to sit and order breakfast
There is a burger bar not far away which is good for lunch, though the menu is very limited. The pizza place is apparently rarely open.
Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

The staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed working in stunning setting.
We stayed in a garden cabin. People need to be realistic .....as it was basic, comfortable and clean. No TV and WIFI only in the restaurant/ reception and not in the cabin. No swimming pool. But we knew all of this.....if people want luxury they can stay in Peppers or the Mantra!! It's laid back no frills accommodation on the Southern Barrier Reef where it is a priveledge for people to stay in a paradise setting.

S. S.We had a great holiday recently at GKI Hideaway. We stayed 4 nights, in a double bed garden room. Our room was small, but comfy. A little bit outdated for the price. It would be nice if the rooms were updated a bit, but we only used our room to shower and sleep, so it was suitable for what we needed.
GKI has so much to see and do, only 20kms off the Capricorn Coast it's easy to get to on a ferry from the Rosslyn Bay Marina.
Hiking, long walks on the beach, swimming, watersports, snorkeling, eating delicious meals in the bistro, and having cocktails at Happy Hour while watch the sunset was some of the highlights of our stay. I couldn't fault the meals from the bistro, we did the meal package, which is worth it if you can eat good sized meals. The beaches are beautiful, the water is so clear, and great for snorkeling, we saw fish, coral and turtles. We liked it so much, we have booked again already for our holiday next year.

Fridge runs all night long which is really loud, bathroom facilities are a bit old, no clothes hangers in our room. Only one chair...
Only one big towel for 2 people. For 140 dollars it's quiet expensive for a double room and I expect not to ask for more towels, when I book a room for 2 people...
If we would have paid less then the price would have been ok. It's simple and there's nothing bad about that fact.
I know keppel Island has higher prices but still, If it's simple then the price should be fair too.
We had 60 to 80 dollar rooms who looked way better.
The vegetarian options for diner are as so often pretty disappointing. Only cheesy pasta and risotto. The asian hokkien nudels where drain in sweet and sour souce. Not tasty at all... Couldn't finish it. Felt bad afterwards
The mango smoothie is just ice cream with a tiny bit of mango syrup...
The cocktails are good though and the prices are fair too! Maybe lunch option are better and the meat dishes too.
The stuff is really friendly and welcoming. They give you information about Island walks and snorkeling.
M. T. T.I recently stayed here with my family in May and I do come and visit this island at least twice a year. I can say the Hideaway has come a very long way!! I visited in October in 2017 and the food offering was not the best. This time around it was just such a massive improvement, really well done! The food service in terms of time has greatly improved as has the accommodation too. The Management team have put in great effort to continuously improve the property and it certainly shows.
The beach as always is amazing! Picture perfect, however it would be really nice to see a rock wall go in place of the large sand filled bags on the beach. It really is such a hideous sight detracting from the amazing views that once were.
Overall, I love this place and know I'll be back.
J. M.We stayed in a family room in the Garden rooms for 4 nights. I would suggest a shorter stay in these as there is not much space to be settled with all your stuff etc. The ensuite was quite small as well. Suggest to stay in a cabin near the beach.
The restaurant food was good, a little pricey and adds up over 4 days. Don't bother with happy hour cocktail,stick to beer etc.
The ferry, restaurant and resort was good. Will stay again but in one of the cabins.
Came back in July, stayed at the cabins. Much better but no cupboards or shelves inside to put your gear. Great vista from the front cabins.

Plenty of beautiful walks and beaches, but if you cannot read a book then take your own entertainment. Only soap provided in rooms so take your shampoos etc. We will return loved the serenity.
A. C.Great way to have a beach holiday without to much travel. The cyclone has meant giant sand bags but really they're not an issue. Food is fine and meal deal has been good value. Snorkeling trip is a must to get the best reefs in. Sea view cabins also best choice. Lazy days and happy kids in safe waters makes for a great holiday. Third time here now so must be doing ok.

L. L.My family and I were on GKI for the day after a morning of swimming we went walkabout and had lunch here. Everyone enjoyed their choice from the lunch menu and refreshing beverages. We shall be returning in the not to distant future.
A.Mediocre meals, but it’s the only place you can really eat. E.g. the Asian Hokkien Noodles dish tasted oddly similar to a Sweet and Sour Kan Tong! Thankfully it’s not overpriced, otherwise it’d hurt. It’s kind of a shame that you get to such a beautiful island only to have such limited options though.
The garden room accomodation is basic and clean enough.
Personally, I think it’d be a cool island to explore if you’ve got a boat, but walking around to various beaches (while possibly lugging all your extracurricular equipment) can get pretty darn tiresome. And 4x4 drop-offs are pricey, so walking is the only other option really.
For a one-night trip away to an island on the south of the GBR, it was all pretty affordable. Got a bit off topic there, didn’t I!
N. P.Seven of my girlfriends and I spent a night at Great Keppel Island Hideaway for my hen do in June 2019. We had the most wonderful time.
Our beach front cabins were beautiful and contained everything we needed for a wonderful stay. The view from the cabins is idyllic and serene, as is the beachfront. We swam in the sea and sunbathed on the beach. The bar/restaurant serves delicious dinners and breakfasts.
I am so happy we chose the Hideaway for my hen do retreat :)

The island is beautiful with so much you can do. Great restaurant and bar. Just a wonderful island. A real jewel. We are so very lucky to have Keppel and Hideaways at out door step. Keppel Konnections will get you there in 30 minutes. You will enjoy the island hospitality and love the natural beauty the moment you get there. Wear thongs or shoes you can easily take off on the boat. You land on the beach and sometimes you get your feet wet. Just go. You'll love it!
R. S.Grabbed a great deal for return ferry journey through Keppel Konnections. We traveled as a large family group. The facilities at hideaway resort were very clean. Paddle boards and kayaks available for hire and staff here are very helpful.

J. A.Simple rooms but have most of the essentials. The garden rooms I stayed in didn't have hair dryers or ironing boards which were no inconvenience to myself but may be to others. Air-conditioner works great and is only a short walk to the closest part of the beach or a little more than 5 minutes to the main part of the beach.

J. T.Nice resort on a beautiful island. Like the water savings features with showers and taps using bore water but mineral water is provided in each room in large dispensers. The view is marred by the large sandbags on the beach outside the resort and construction happening. However, rest of the island is still very beautiful.

K. K.Accommodation was great. Food was good but found it odd that there was table service but you had to get your own cutlery. Beware of the packaged ferry lunch and activity at the hideaway. you can only claim the lunch between 12 and 2 and all the good snorkeling beaches are a hike away meaning you will probably miss the lunch time if you hike out strait after you arrive on the morning ferry. Seems like a bit of an intended outcome to take money for lunch knowing most people wont make it in time for it.

We did the jetski tour which was occasionally a difficult ride, so not for the feint if heart if it's choppy. Food was pretty standard but not super expensive which was nice. We thought a day trip might leave us with not a lot to do but we were scrambling for more time, so consider staying overnight if you want to do more than a couple of things.

S. B.The positives were the the staff were very friendly and the island is beautiful. But, this being the second time over, the garden rooms were not much bang for the money. The first one we were put in, the shower backing was all smashed ( why wasn't this seen too when cleaned?) . We were then put in another room, this time at least we had a little table and chairs ( something lacking from last year) but the bathroom was so old. The shower screen kept coming off its tracks, if you turned the tap on too hard in the basin, water went everywhere(basins very small) toilet wouldn't flush properly. There was a big stain on our white sheets. The room smelt damp. There was no where to hang clothes or even place things except on the floor or a two tiny bedside tables. Last year there was less in the rooms but still lacking some important essentials. Also the smoke detector was not even operational ( no cover or batteries) . Just a bit disappointed by the rooms. You are paying good money but not really getting anything for it. The best part was the island ..it is so beautiful. The grounds were kept beautifully around the resort. The staff, as I said, were all very friendly, that always makes for a pleasant trip.

S. N. L.Ferry ride takes about half an hour to reach to Keppel islands n it was nice ride. There are various water sports like tube riding, snorkeling etc.. Recommend to try Jet Ski tour in which u get to ride jet ski going around the island plus snorkeling. Takes about one n a half hour but it was worth to try it. Food on the island is not that good but its acceptable tho.
