Just before we arrived I decided to take a look at the 1 star reviews. I had a good laugh at how the 5 bad reviews mainly complain about price. You know this going in and booking. This was such a wonderful experience. As it may be a bit pricey for some compared to a normal hotel, this is definitely worth it. It's an experience like no other which the price shows. The rooms are high end. The meals were all chef quality. We stayed for 2 nights and had 2 tours which included feeding not only giraffes from our room but other animals around the zoo. It made me feel like being in Africa without having to leave the country.
For anyone thinking about doing this I definitely recommend going if you don't mind spending a little bit of money.

My mum and dad went on a wedding anniversary trip here that I booked and they couldn’t say enough good things about it. Felt like they were stepping into an animal Disney world. The staff and service was amazing and they said they had the most delicious food the whole weekend. Can’t wait to go myself!

An amazing place for both adults and kids. Private tours in the zoo plus up and close with the lions before dinner. Great food, French champagne and really friendly staff. It’s not cheap but think of the extra cost as a charitable donation for animal welfare. Will be back again
J. E.
We walked around the National Zoo and Aquarium on Sunday from 11am. Sunday was a fairly warm day. I would advise to get there earlier and you will see more of the animals.
G. C.
Easy place to navigate around the wildlife park with the map. You can also feed the some of the animals, like the the White lion's. Highly recommend to take a visit

Great place to stay with meals, drinks & tours of the zoo. Recommend to stay for a special night. Is pricey but well worth it.

I stayed overnight at Jamala in the Wild Encounter. Upon arrival I was greeted by friendly staff who offered yummy food and refreshments. The experience allowed me to explore the zoo and receive a guided tour on the morning of our stay. In addition, we had a close viewing of the animals in the evening which was followed by a delicious dinner. The rooms are amazing and kept incredibly clean. I definitely recommend this experience.

Fantastic experience. We stayed in the Ushaka Lodge Reef Room with an aquarium on one side and the hyenas on the other.
Wonderful food and tour of zoo.

Had one of the best holidays here! The accommodation (Giraffe treehouse) was 5-star accommodation, very clean and perfect size with the giraffe (Sky) hanging out a lot for us to watch her, the feeding of the giraffe was also amazing. The guided tour was amazing and informational with our wonderful guide Jake! Staff were incredible in their service and care and doing the most to make our stay perfect. The meals were also 5-star and tasted amazing with many options, especially for those with dietary requirements. The encounters with animals (I did the tiger & meerkat) were incredible and something to do with money from it to help animal conservation. Jamala overall was an amazing place to stay and I will forever recommend to others, with plans to hopefully return!

Undoubtedly the best experience we've ever had vacationing in Australia. Absolutely wonderful experience, even in the middel of winter/covid times. We had a great stay and enjoyed every minute. Everyone at the Zoo was super enthusiastic and the experiences were wonderful. It was amazing to come across such a world class experience in the middle of Canberra.
D.
Magnificent and amazing! From the encounters with the animals to the friendly staff and the excellent food, everything is planned out well and ensured to make your experience special. I was taken back by everything - how friendly and helpful the staff and guides were (thanks Jake!), the five star accommodation facilities, the encounters with the animals, how well kept the zoo is and how happy the animals appear to be, and the food that was served. I can't give this a high enough rating and recommendation, I would give this 10 stars if possible!
Definitely coming back again next year! Thank you so much to the Jamala staff who made our stay exceptional!
H. A.
Absolutely amazing our room was the best. The experience incredible. The food 5 star and so delicious. An experience that everyone should do.
J. M.
Great to be up so close to Ravi. The people at the Lodge were fantastic. Made us feel so welcome. The experience awesome.
G. F.
We just spent the most amazing night in bungalow 1 with the two lions. Everything about about our Jamala experience was 5 star and we can’t believe we have been lucky enough to experience it. First class staff, accommodation, food and of course the amazing animals particularly the lion 🦁 brothers. A special thanks to Jamie for a great afternoon tour. We cannot recommend this experience enough... Thankyou Jamala

There are no words for how amazing the experience is at Jamala Wildlife Lodge. Expensive, yes, worth it, 1000%! Your $ not only give you a once in a lifetime experience, they also go towards threatened species preservation so it's a win win!! Vegans who may be concerned, I can assure you that you don't need to be worried, this place is all about conservation and will only impress you!!! Oh and the vegan food - amazing!!!
J. G.
We had an amazing time on the "Wonders Of Wildlife" tour. An all day experience that kept us saying "WOW!" the whole time.
P. B.
An excellent day out. Friendly staff and a huge variety of different species. Highly recommended!!

This was the most amazing experience for our whole family! Nothing was missed, attention to detail and the staff were incredible and so accommodating especially for the kids. And they may have had a sweet spot for Rebecca. Thank you to all.
I. M.
Amazing experience. Stayed in the Giraffe Treetop accommodation for 1 night. Met the resident male giraffe, Hummer, up close and personal. Zoo is great, staff are friendly.
Accommodation is luxurious, food was beautiful, drinks were plentiful! All round a great experience and highly recommend.
T. F.
I stayed here in Mid June with my wife in the Giraffe tree lodge.
+ Staff love their animals and have a passion for them.
+ Food was lovely.
+ Room was a well decorated African theme. Large and clean.
Negatives
- the animal encounters are brief and VERY limited.
- basically you are paying a lot for 2 short guided tours 1.5 - 2h and a nice dinner with a room.
Feedback for Jamala:
Do what you’d doing now but add a few more intimate is experiences. Feeding the tiger, lion or handle non dangerous creatures. ( I believe these are still optional extras )
My recommendation to visitors considering this experiences
Spend $450 on an executive club room at the Hyatt 15minutes drive away. Visit the zoo and have a guided tour. Or if you want a better experience Even if you pay $500 - $600 For an intimate encounter it would be a much better Experience and better value.
K. M.
Fantastic experience from start to finish. Staff were so friendly and helpful, food was amazing, and the zoo was just gorgeous. Well worth the price, loved every minute!

We originally booked to stay in Jan for our son's 10th bday and due to Covid has to rebook to come back on the 27th Mar. Everyone one of us loved the experience. It is really worth every penny. Everything was so well planned, everyone was so nice and friendly. The meals were of 5 star quality and our kids loved their private tour of the Zoo. They felt so special that they got to see animals that normal Zoo goers do not see. They even remembered that it was for my son's bday, he got a birthday card and his dessert had "Happy Bday" written on it. Made it even more special for him. We stayed in the giraffe room and what an experience we had hand-feeding the giraffe. Thanks, everyone at Jamala Zoo!!! Kids already want to come again when they are older to stay in one of the encounter rooms.
C. A.
Absolutely amazing experience. My whole family were truly blown away by how good Jamala Wildlife Lodge is, and the whole of the National Zoo and Aquarium. We stayed in the Giraffe Treehouse accommodation and it really was a magical experience. Highly highly recommended!
H. Q. W.
This lodge is so special. It is once in a life time experience. In Giraffe lodges, we fed the giraffe on the balcony. How exciting that was!
Great accommodation, great food and services. We had plenty of time to see all the animals. What a happy time we had. We loved every minute of it.
D. O.
From the moment we arrived the staff were excellent and friendly.
We stayed in jungle bungalow 4 with the 2 Tigers Melati and Mya right outside our window it was amazing to see these beautiful girls up close.
The Camberra Zoo/Jamala Wildlife Lodge is a great place to spend a weekend, you could see how all the staff cared about all the animals. It’s great to see all the animals have lots of room to run, play, and swim.
Can’t wait to come back.
L. F.
I really felt like I was in Africa for the duration of my visit! Love Giraffes - fascinating animals! Such passion and attention to detail made my stay worth reminiscing about with my family...
I. P.
We originally booked 3 Jungle Bungalows back in August for the whole family to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday, but had to cancel due to the Victorian Covid lockdown. Jamala refunded our booking promptly in accordance with their Terms and Conditions.
We subsequently rebooked for 1 January 2021 and happily, finally got to enjoy the experience for which we had been waiting many months. I can only agree with the many positive ratings found on this site, particularly given the continually evolving and ongoing Covid crisis which surely makes managing bookings a challenge. The staff were unfailingly helpful, courteous and knowledgeable and the zoo and accommodations were reassuringly socially distant compliant. The dining options were a major feature of our stay, dinner and breakfast were delicious and plentiful.
Our comfortable African-themed bungalows were perfect for viewing the big cats and their activities within their spacious compounds, to best effect. 'Our own' tiger slept on a bed of straw just a few feet distant from our own beds, thankfully safely behind the glass screen. Our other family members enjoyed similar close encounters in their bungalows with their respective lions and tigers. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed getting up front and personal with the cats and even enjoyed the lions' noisy early morning roaring chorus.
The morning 'safari tour' was a highlight and we would like to acknowledge our guide, Jo, who was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, entertaining and kept us enthralled throughout the tour. Although the original part of the zoo is somewhat compact, this tour featured the relatively new extension to the zoo where the animals were displayed in the wide open spaces of an expansive environment and the animals rarely appeared restricted.
Yes, it is expensive, but also a unique experience with the opportunity to experience a taste of an upmarket safari lodge in Africa. Highly recommended and well worth it.
L. B.
Beautiful staff, incredible animals and well-depth information about each animal. The service of food and drinks was incredible! Such delicious flavours and a wide range of dinner and breakfast choices! The rooms were absolutely beautiful, catering to every need. Would 100% go again and recommend to anyone that loves animals!!!
L. D.
The experience, of a life time, in the Lodge, with the tigers. Our tour guide, soo much knowledge, she shared. The dinner,& breakfast, so delicious. Will be highly recommending, to all friends.
S. G.
Magnificent stay, faultless. The moment we arrived we were pampered, the room view was awesome and the food was first class. All included in the price. Worth every cent and will love to come back. Can't see any way to improve it. Maybe a usb charge station could be added to the room but that's minor. Can't praise the staff high enough.
z.
We are from Sydney and I have always wanted to stay here. I read the reviews and yes - all those positive reviews are spot on.
From the moment we entered the lodge, afternoon nibbles were served - sandwiches cakes drinks. All high quality food.
Dinner was superb. The wine on offer was sensational.
We stayed in the giraffe room and it was the best! We went around the lodge and learnt all about the animals from the tour guide.
This place is expensive - but is totally worth the experience. I think for what they offer - it is definitely worth the value !
A. S.
Had a great time staying in Jungle Bungalow 1 (the lion room). The lions roared all night but we didn’t hate it because it was such an unique experience.
Yes, the price was a bit high but for a special occasion (we went there for an anniversary) it’s definitely worth it.
The food was amazing.
G. H.
The most awesome zoo / animal experience in Australia! We spent three days in luxury met a cheetah, had a bath 100 mm from sleeping tigers and didn't want to leave.
C. M.
We stayed in the Grand Shark Suite last week and had the greatest time with our daughter and granddaughter. All the guides are wonderful and really love the animals. The food and accommodation are superb. We fed the hyenas, shark, wrasse, eland, deer and alpaca. Fantastic experience, can't wait to bring the rest of the family.
J. M.
A wonderful experience. Stayed in the Giraffe Tree House bungalows and had Hummer the Giraffe come right up to our windows to be fed.
The food and service was absolutely fantastic.
C. N.
This place is exceptional. Really nice accomodation and cool experiences.
R.
One of the absolute best experiences I have ever had. I love the set up the rooms the furniture. The food was amazing and the staff were fantastic!. Can't wait to come back. Loved my time with the cute little sun bears
C. P.
We stayed in the Grand Shark Suite with our 4 children and had the most amazing experience! We loved everything - the food was delicious, feeding the sharks and hyenas was unforgettable & the staff and guides were so friendly. Worth every cent!
C.
We stayed in the reef room and were blown away by all aspects of the experience. The private tours were a great way to learn and get a closer look at the animals. Then we were able to walk around the zoo at our own leisure after it had closed to the public. The animals seemed to be far more playful with fewer people around.
Dinner and breakfast were great as well with the staff being exceptionally attentive. The food was delicious!
In the morning, we had the opportunity to explore the zoo before it opened again as well as another private tour. This time, the highlight was patting a 1.8t White Rhino!
I'd love to go again
D. C.
This place is absolutely amazing!
Not only is the experience so unique, but all the staff were exceptional and the overall quality of accommodation, food and service was high.
We were a little apprehensive at first on the communal dinner, thinking a romantic dinner for two would be preferred, but we really enjoyed meeting new people and everyone was friendly and engaging, it was a really fun evening.
We stayed in the Giraffe Tree house and loved having a friendly giraffe right there off our balcony. The zoo tours were also insightful and great to get up so close to these fantastic creatures.
It’s not a cheap getaway but well worth it.
A. H.
We stayed in the Wild Encounter Room which was beautiful. Staff was super friendly... we met the cheetah, Solo which was an awesome experience. The meals were fantastic as well. Wonderful experience!
K. G.
We stayed 1 night & couldnt have enjoyed it more. The food was delicious & plentiful. The beverage selection was top shelf & always offered. The zoo is very clean & the enclosures are well built / suited to the animals. The lodge is luxury as was our room, the reef room. We would go back again in a heartbeat.
B. L.
Such a beautiful place to visit and stay. From the unusual Sun Bears to White Lions all animals were up close and easy to view. Make sure to make the effort to stay over a night. It not only helps the zoo but the close ups of the animals combined with the excellent tours are not to be missed! Giraffe Tree house lodging is the best!
M. K.
We decided on the Walk on the Wild side (WOW) tour.
We were created by our zoo keeper/ guide for the day.
The staff and guide were wonderful – they had the best interest of the animals at heart. They gave clear directions for our safety and for the safety of the animals. Listening is so important.
The staff interacted and assisted each other – they gave so much information about the animals. Nothing was too much trouble – they made our day exceptionally special.
Our interaction with the animals was very special. We read the brochure, understanding that we may not be able to see every animal and interact – we truly enjoyed seeing and feeding and interacting with most of the animals.
Note to ladies – wear closed in shoes, as you need to step into a container with water, so as not to infect the animals with diseases.
The most wonderful day that we have enjoyed – not enough words to describe this most enlightening and enjoyable day. We will treasure this day.
Totally recommend this tour.
A. W.
We stayed overnight with my parents, the staff were pleasant we felt as if we were in the Jungle. I would recommend if you love animals
J. H.
The overnight stay was so much more than your average getaway. We interacted with the animals whilst learning about their habitats, habits and preservation. The amenities were fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond to cater for all our needs. The food was amazing, especially having had two big cats keeping us company in the room next door. Highly recommended, and I'm sure I'll be back.
K. T.
We have never experienced a night quite like this! On arrival, everything is catered for, afternoon tea is exquisite! The tastes are unique. The rooms are incredible, we were in the Treetop room, hand fed “Humma” the Giraffe ... what a delightful event! The rooms are above 5 star! Attention to every detail is perfect. Dinner was easily Michelin star, exotic tastes, beautiful wines/ champagne’s all covered in the costs! Animal tours in the zoo are provided by the staff to an excellent level, everything about this event makes you feel like you are so incredibly important and special! You may think that one night is expensive, but I disagree, this is worth saving for! The staff are second to none! Outstanding! A Must!
L. B.
What a wonderful place, lovely food and great customer service. We stayed in the tiger room and it was such a treat, they were active and wonderful to watch. We experienced patting a cheetah and the dog that lives with the cheetah. We did the afternoon and morning tours and recommend doing both. They had an incredible collection of art and artefacts. The room was so clean and perfect. We even fed the tigers. Such an incredible experience thank you so much
B. C.
We stayed in the Lemur room where we not only got to enjoy watching the gorgeous Lemurs but also overlooked the lions and hyenas. All the staff are wonderful and never hesitate to offer help. We did a venture tour with our guide Will.T who was absolutely the best guide you could ask for. He was very informative and went out of his way to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We highly recommend spending the money to stay here if you love animals as you can see how much of the money goes into the care of the animals.
L. L.
We had the pleasure of staying at Jamala Wildlife Lodge and I wish I could give them more stars! The service, the amazing food, comfortable accommodation and of course the fantastic tours of the zoo made our stay memorable. We stayed in the Ushaka Lodge in the Lemur Room and from the moment we arrived until our departure all of our needs were attended to. We had a delicious afternoon tea at the lodge, were taken on a tour of the zoo, relaxed in our room and in the pool until dinner where we enjoyed canapes and drinks before indulging in the most amazing 3 course meal. The next morning we had an equally amazing cooked breakfast then had another tour. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone!!!
L. A.
Amazing place. I manage to stay overnight and stayed with the cheater enclosure. Beautiful rooms and the food and beverages were nice. It is expensive to stay though what you get is worth saving up for.
L. C.
The most amazing place to stay in Canberra! 5 stars, and will go back again!
B. T.
Staff made us feel special and welcome, nothing was too hard. Accommodation and food was superior to anywhere I've ever stayed and eaten before, and of course the animals, fantastic, especially the giraffe we fed from our balcony and the lions!
K. Z.
One of the best weekends I have spent in a long time. Jamala is outstanding, and privately owned, so there is no big "commercial" push at this place.
We actually booked a deal where we had two nights at the Hyatt Hotel and then Jamala for one night. It's always worth looking on the Jamala website for current deals.
I cannot rave about Jamala enough. The people were exceptional and very committed to the preservation of the animals under their care. The food was outstanding and the accommodation was superb. We stayed in the Lemur room, so we had the lemurs on one side of our room, and the lions on the other side. You could hear the roar of the lions during the night - it simply sent tingles down your spine!
We had personal encounters with the animals and were able to pat them - all part of the deal and we had exclusive tours throughout the zoo.
If you have a special weekend that you wish to splurge on then this is the place for you. You will not be disappointed. Everything about this place is exceptional and at the end of the day every cent you spend goes to preserving wildlife around the world. What better way to spend your money!
t. c.
Staff was awsome. Accommodation was worth every cent. The zoo perfect. Definitely going coming back. Thank you for the wonderful weekend
N. D.
An unbelievable 2 day/1 night stay! I was in awe of the surroundings, healthy happy animals, animal interactions and each and every staff member! We stayed in Giraffe tree house 5 and don't regret 1 single thing. Initially I thought it was expensive, until we had our adventure there, well worth every cent! And don't bother taking snacks they keep your belly full the whole time. Will definitely do again.
P. V.
Our family experience with Jamala was nothing but amazing. All the staff were great and could'nt do enough. The sleep over with the animals and African Safari tour was excellent. We will be recommending Jamala to our family and friends.
M. D.
Great, well planned zoo. Ideal for kids and adults
M. G.
An amazing experience- what really highlighted the experience was a genuine passion by all the staff, towards the animals and the visitors:) nothing is too much trouble, and the rooms are presented well, and comfortable too. The tour guides were fantastic, and there’s a genuine love for the animals and conservation:)
A. S.
This place is beyond amazing!!
My husband and I had the best time ever. The lodges(we stayed in a Giraffe Treehouse) are clean and beautiful. The staff is absolutely fantastic - friendly and vibrant. Thank you to Rachel, Lisa, Stacey, Hilary, Bronwin, Hayden, Ruby and everyone else that made this stay memorable.
The animals are active and engaged (unlike any other zoo we have been to) and their enclosures are absolutely MASSIVE!! And the tours are wonderful. Stacey and Bronwin were well educated about the animals, enthusiastic and really funny - I must say.
And the food.. Ah!! THE FOOD.. these people love to feed you until you can eat no more.
I can rave about this place for hours!
I definitely recommend Jamala Wildlife Lodges and look forward to visit again!
m. w.
An amazing once in a lifetime experience. Stayed in one of the suites in the lodge and walking into the dining/sitting area already blows you away. Afternoon tea is provided upon arrival and your luxury experience has already begun. You get to meet their cheetah cub and doggo friend, two (optional) guided tours, fine dining dinner with canapes to start and drinks, as well as great hot breakfast menu the next day. Great experience, the animals were awesome and the staff very accommodating.
B. P. E.
The lodge is absolutely amazing, it's a perfect example of luxury stay with a jungle lodge experience. Suites have a view to the wildlife and the aquarium. Jamala wildlife lodge supports the zoo and also animal programs in Africa. The support staff and the rangers make the stay comfortable and informative. Dinner experience next to the lion enclosure is the best part....
H. F.
Jamala Wildlife Lodge is exceptional! Pure luxury accommodation and the restaurant meals and drinks were fine dining in every sense. The animal encounters and tours were brilliant. Staff were attentive and friendly, providing excellent customer service. Our experience at Jamala will never be forgotten. Highly recommended.
G. J.
Staff were great with information and assistance making the booking.
Finally stayed the nights of the 15th and 16/03 and it was worth it. Great location and encounters, fantastic accommodation, incredible food and staff.
J. W.
We stayed at the National Zoo and Aquarium at Jamala Lodge.
It was an unbelievable experience, getting up close and personal with so many incredible animals, and seeing how they act when the zoo is empty after it has closed.
The accommodation is extremely comfortable and spacious. Even though our room didn't have a viewing window (we specifically booked the suite despite this, so this is not a point against it) the viewing windows at dinner onto the dens for the lions and hyenas were astounding.
The food and drink is excellent. Thought, make sure to eat lunch before you arrive as the offering is more finger food (again, this is advertised, so not a point against).
The staff are brilliant and accommodating and clearly have a great deal of passion for wildlife conservation and advocacy.
The zoo exhibits are brilliant, offering excellent views of the animals whilst also (to the untrained eye, at least) looking like they provide plenty of sanctuary and entertainment for the animals.
The zoo itself is well laid-out feeling expansive but compact, with shortcuts to everything but a clear path to follow if you want to see everything.
Overall, this would be on my can't miss list next time I'm in Canberra.

The zoo was amazing,
The zoo is so clean the animals look great and well entertained and the encolsures are beautiful.
The kids park was so much fun for the kids.
They had an amazing day.

I can't fault our stay at Jamala for our honeymoon and the beautiful staff that made every effort to see to our needs and make things easy and relaxing for us. Rooms were luxurious (and roommates - tigers - interesting, happy, well cared for and close by), tours/activities interactive and not something you can do just anywhere (won't say more for fear of spoiling the same lovely surprises we got getting so close to the animals), food amazing and the keepers/guides - we had Ty, Will and Stella - passionate and informative. We also went on the meet-a-cheetah-cub encounter and he (Solo) and Maddie and Kyle his keepers were so great to us, as was Ryan who took us through meeting and feeding our tiger friends. I think people complaining about the price - especially the close-minded idiots who haven't even stayed there - need to have a serious think about the experience they are actually getting, which the staff would be happy to detail for you, and what it costs to accommodate people so well (not to mention Jamala's purpose in helping fund the zoo and all its efforts!). This is definitely a fantastic retreat and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
S. L.
Such an amazing experience for kids and adults alike. No other place like it
g. t.
Awesome everything. Pack your stuff and go before you die wondering. Forget about the $ you will enjoy every minute. We stayed in the Merkat Suite.
T. S.
Loved the wild life and so did my daughter on her first trip to the zoo on her first birthday! She enjoyed the birds and aquarium more, but would have been heaps more exciting if there were more activities and interaction and just more water animals in general. But over all we enjoyed ourselves today.
C. F.
Highly recommend staying here. Very well presented passionate staff who obviously care about what they do. The animal lodges are lovely, we stayed with a brown bear and had very special moments. The food was all included and spectacular. Nothing was too much for the staff. Can not wait to return.
T. M.
Fantastic service and amendatives. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. The behind the scenes tours including a sneak peek at the zoo expansion (and its white rhinos) The incredible room decor which is very close to Africa and all genuine artifacts. I could not recommend this place more highly.
J. R.
All the staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay for Janes birthday. Thank you all very much. We will be back.
A. R.
So many good and bad things to report.
The experience staying in a bungalow with the cheetah was amazing, expensive but amazing.
The food in the "Cave" was well....ordinary.
The steak on the first night was so tough, we thought the chef must of stolen it from the lions den. The lunch on day two was finished with a selection of what can only be described as child deserts, we were almost expecting fairy bread next.
Wines, ports and beers were a good quality selection.
It would of been nice to be even more hands on with the animals, paying so much, I just expected a little more animal interaction.
S. T.
My friend and I stayed in the Giraffe Treehouse.
What an amazing experience, everything was just perfect from our check-in until we checked out. The food was exceptional and all the staff were wonderful.
This experience should be a must do on everyone's bucket list.
T. M.
The staff were incredibly helpful and thoughtful. The rooms are extremely well-appointed and beautifully decorated with an African theme. Worth every cent to stay here. Congratulations Richard and Maureen for all your tireless efforts, but …
A. B.
5 star accommodation!
All facilities are high quality. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Animal rooms are exactly as advertised, with only being sperated by a full wall window.
Dinner provided was first class with a good selection of drinks.
Would highly recommend spending the money to expireance at least once.
A. C.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge last night.
We loved the afternoon and morning tours, all guides were extremely knowledgeable, happy and you could tell they enjoyed working there. This extended to all staff in general, no matter what role they were all courteous and easy to talk to.
Pre drinks and canapes last night was a great way to chat to fellow guests, overlooking the beautiful white lions before heading in for an amazing dinner filled with beautiful food and copious amounts of alcohol 😁
We stayed in the wild encounter suite and it had everything you could want. Foxtel, wifi, very comfortable bed, spa bath, but most importantly a terrace next to the meerkat enclosure. They were so cute and you couldn't wipe the smiles of our faces whenever we sat out with them.
I highly recommend anyone considering staying here to do so, it's a magical experience and just know that the money you spend staying here goes back into the zoo, charities and wildlife conservation.
5 stars.

We stayed at Jamala for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We highly recommend this amazing experience to everyone. The entire staff were amazing, the room was everything we had hoped it would be! The meals are exceptional and scrumptious!
Our special thanks to Alicia and Kelly, two passionate staff members who made sure our experience at the zoo would be firmly etched into lifelong memories. The experience of having pre-dinner drinks and dinner with Jake and Mischa (White lions) was simply stunning. Very highly recommended and well worth the cost.
T. M.
A unique experience to visit the zoo and get close to the animals. The room was amazing as was the lodge and the zoo. Turning the key in the carved door to walking through a perfectly stunning room with a view of our beautiful animals we are sharing for the night.
T. M.
The idea of putting the hotel rooms in the middle of the National Zoo is highly commendable and deserves to succeed. We were lucky enough to be allocated the seats right next to the windows where the animals were, which was wonderful. Thoroughly recommend this to anyone who loves animals like i do.
R. P.
Had the most exceptional experience from the moment we arrived from the high tea, guided tours, food, staff, decor, the attention to detail everything amazing. Especially the interaction with the animals who are so special to the bond they have with their keepers. Can't wait to come back. We stayed in the giraffe tree house an absolute delight thanks jamala
B. H.
This is an excellent experience loved almost everything with only one exception. We were told that we would receive an African inspired dinner this just wasn't delivered. Mind you the meal was fantastic. However, it was a meal I could have got at any good restaurant. I was very disappointed that it didn't deliver the same unique experience as the rest of the stay.
T. M.
We went to Africa some 15 years ago and wanted to relive some of our experiences and well staying in a jungle bungalow has achieved that for us The room was great and the animals greater. I cant even describe it all in this review Thanking you again to the staff, the guides and especially the animals. I rate it as highly as possible.
T. M.
Beautiful Giraffe tree house. I am a fussy eater with special diet requirements and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me. The following morning we had a great breakfast followed by tour of the open range part of the zoo. We would highly recommend it and hope to go back to a Tiger Lodge sometime.

Had the amazing opportunity to stay at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge and it was amazing! We stayed on Sunday night and arrived in the after by 1pm, was served a very delicious afternoon tea and drinks (alcoholic included) and taken on a lovely afternoon tour. Nothing was rushed we had ample time to rest in our rooms between afternoon tea and the optional afternoon tour. Then time to rest/explore before heading to pre dinner drinks. Food and drinks were top notch and quite gourmet. Really got up close and personal with so many animals. Our room included the hyena feeding the next morning after a hearty breakfast we headed off to our guides tour then the hyena feeding. We also booked the zoofari tour that afternoon seeing as you get 25% off after you stay overnight. The guides were knowledgable, passionate and friendly! I definately recommend it and it is well worth the price as you get quality and help their conservation efforts!

Jamala is superb. The luxury rooms, lounge & dining room. Wonderful african art everywhere. Fantastic food & service from all the friendly staff. The close encounters with the animals will stay with you for life.
I could not recommend any experience more
highly.
S. M.
Stayed in the giraffe treehouse and it was incredible. The room was very nice and feeding the giraffe was amazing. Got the chance to feed a lion, sunbear and get up close with a boa constrictor on the tour! The meals and service were excellent, highly recommend!
M. P.
A hidden gem. Expensive, but for one night we felt it was so different {African safari lodge in Canberra!!) that it was value for money. Innovative.
P. K.
Awesome place. Friendly and dedicated staff. Fantastic food. 2 nights in Bungalow 1 with 3 lions as our roomies. Lots of great photos. Just a thick pane of glass between you and the animals.
A. S.
Great location, rooms and food. They could do with making them a little more exclusive. It tends to pack out so be ready to deal with a fairly large group(s) depending on your lodging day.
E.
I went to Jamala Wildlife Lodge for the Mother's Day Breakfast event. Beautiful venue and the food and drinks were superb! We then spent the rest of the day exploring the zoo. Amazing experience. We will definitely do this again for other events!
T. M.
I have ticked 'Excellent' above, only because that's as high as it goes. The detail attention to the décor and facilities is amazing. Accommodation, food, service and animal encounters are flawless. Definitely need a bigger room for larger families. The room is decorated in an African theme and the artifacts are just right.
T. M.
Book well in advance and be wary, the stay at the main lodge means the shark tank is not in your room but outside it so it's close by. Décor is amazing and I felt like I had been transported to Africa. The people, the staff, the zoo, the …
T. M.
You are taken to Africa with the artefacts and décor in the spacious areas of the lodge. The establishments commitment to animal breeding and conservation is beyond belief and their ability to share this with visitors is nothing short of …
T. M.
A warm welcome by the reception staff to our Jamala zoo experience. The room was really nice and had everything you could possibly want for a short stay. Poster bed in main bedroom large dos bath. A great place, well appointed and recommended for a overnight stay with a difference.
E. N.
It was such a fantastic experience. We stayed at the shark suite and the room was amazing though I expected to see the sharks from the room. Feeding Lady, one of the sharks, and patting her was one of a kind too. The best part was the encounter with Solo, the cheetah. It is a must-see.

Afternoon tea on arrival was excellent, lots of delicious food and the food and beverage staff member (I'm so sorry I forgot his name, but he was lovely) was great, explaining the dinner menu and the afternoon tea foods that were suitable for my diet. The optional afternoon tour was good too but I didn't know that they provided soft drink / water that you could bring with you as well as sunscreen and insect repellant which was located on the kitchen counter - which I saw (but the rest of my party didn't even see at all) right as we set off and was too late to get, but assumed would be there when we got back, tired and sweaty. It wasn't unfortunately. The room was beautifully presented and we took a lot of pictures before it was time for our animal encounter which was great. Shower/rested in the room before it was time for dinner at 6.30. The service at dinner was 5 stars, from canapés, 4 course meal to a hot beverage at the end of the night. Just wonderful and a compliment to the staff for their excellent service. Buffet breakfast the next morning was standard. The morning tour by Arno was really good and an eye opener. My only one issue was that the foxtel, fridge and kettle in our room did not work - I had opened the mini fridge earlier to put in some of my drinks and perishables and noticed water pooling underneath the ice box section but assumed that it had only just been turned on or was on too low and it would be fine. Unfortunately, this was not the case and I only found out when we tried to check foxtel out after returning from dinner and also found the fridge warm and the kettle not working. Because reception was already closed (at 7pm), we couldn't get this fixed and I could only inform reception at 7am. This was still not fixed by the time we checked out at 11. Hopefully they were able to fix this before the next guests came along. A blip to an otherwise luxurious stay.
A. T.
Had a wonderful day&night at Jamala by October, Room is very clean, bed is comfy, staff are friendly, I was able to see animals from my room’s window. The only one thing I wish Jamala could improve is to have seperate or private dining tables instead of shared table. But in generally, I like this place.
T. M.
The passion and enthusiasm from all the staff is inspiring and very welcoming. A special dinner arranged for children on Friday night staying there in the lodge and parents then entertained on the terrace overlooking the zoo with champage and African finger food. Would love to come back for a Jungle Bungalow experience.
K. S.
Amazing experience, friendly and helpful staff. Meals and service were 10 out of 10. loved the tours and animal encounters. Would do again in future. Room and decor were luxurious.
D. L.
I knew that we were in for a amazing time but even that was surpassed. We could not have had a better experience! 5 star venue with wonderful, passionate and knowledgeable staff. Our room with "Hummer" the Giraffe ambling about outside our balcony was a so special. You know you have a great time when you drive away wishing you could stay forever and you are disappointed it is over. If you get a chance do it!!
Be proud that there is a facility like this in Australia that cares so much about rescuing our world's wide life from cruel, horrible, selfish people that would kill them for profit.
Thank you to everyone at Jamala Wildlife Lodge.
D. B.
I have called the lodge twice to make sure I have the story correct.
My request was to book 4 rooms 8 adults 3 children for 2 nights.
Once I mentioned the children being under 6 years of age we could not move forward with the booking. I was told their insurance does not cover children under 6 years of age. The reason stated "imagine if your child was bitten or hurt by one of the animals "
Yet, I can take them into the zoo... makes no sense, no sense at all.
J. S.
From the moment to arrive it is an experience to remember. From the afternoon tea as you settle in, to the amazing tours in both the afternoon and following morning the staff are amazing. The catering is five star as well with nothing left wanting. Recommend to anyone considering, and of you haven't you should do it.
T. M.
We stayed as a family of 4 at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge - we got the Shark Suite which is in the uShaka Lodge. An expensive Christmas present for us all. The lodge is the owners former residence - they have since moved to the other side of the zoo in the newly expanded area. The Lodge is a bit like a set from an old James Bond movie with impressive African style furniture, giant shark tanks and lions on the terrace (seperated by a cage).
The Shark Suite is very large - and it also includes a short experience with a shark (feeding and patting). The shark tank is literally behind a door in the main bedroom. The Shark Suite rooms are all huge. Early in the morning you can hear the lions roaring. Wifi is good and free but is only available in the Lodge itself (not in the zoo area).
The lodge staff keep you busy however with tours of the zoo for the rest of the time. The zoo was recently expanded so if you haven't been for a while it is worth going back.
Afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks, dinner and breakfast are all included. Servings are generous and good quality - both food and wine. Afternoon tea is served at 1:30pm so make sure you check in at that time (and skip lunch). Pre-dinner drinks on the terrace also includes feeding of hyenas and the white lions (who may or not come up to the terrace). The kids menu was also received well by our kids. During dinner - kids are served fairly early on and then are invited to a kids only tour of the zoo including some behind the scenes. Well worth going - they arrive back just before dessert is served. Dinner and breakfast are served at long tables - you get allocated seats by room.
Service was great and friendly - especially with the kids.
T. M.
What an amazing sight to wake up to. We opted to go back to our room to enjoy the room more and finally checked out about 10.30am. As we were warned be ready for the roars and growls around 3am, and that happened. Breakfast was of a high standard with a hot option. Value packed and worth ever cent.
N. D.
From regular zoo member I always see staff cleaning and provide great service. I would definitely stay overnight at the zoo when my little kid turn to right age that the lodge offers educational program to their guests.
W. T.
A Must to visit while in Canberra and you can even stay there. You can choose which room and animal you want to be near.
L. R.
Amazing place. Excellent staff. Facilities are excellent. Very comfortable and clean. We were lucky to get Bungalow 1 which is the lions. What a wonderful night we had. Meals were excellent too. Well worth staying.
M. H.
no dental kits. staff very unfriendly name is Tanya. I don't know why she had such bad mood. it is good as a zoo. It has good tour guide. But it is poor as a hotel. Poor service, and unfriendly staff(Tanya). i book for 2 nights. but i only stay for one night, because of poor service.
H. O.
Amazing zoo and if you have the opportunity to stay at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge, do it. A truly unique overnight experience where you can get up, close and personal with the animals in the zoo. Further, the five star hospitality from the staff and the five star accommodation make it all that and more.
K. S.
6 star service. Have been around the world many times and have stayed a beautiful places.
The Jamala Wildlife lodge experience was beyond anything we had experienced before.
From the arrival until departure we were treated like VIPS. FIRST CLASS.
Thank you
R. I.
Havnt actually stayed here so can only comment on what I know from a visit inside with work. Inside looks great. Each room is attached to an animal experience, "living" with them. It's defo on the pricey side. But seems relatively worth it with the inclusions if you want a once in a lifetime experience. Included meals. Private entry to the park outside of hours. You eat in a dining room with the lions.
M. G.
What a brilliant experience, a must to visit!
a. w.
This is the most magical place in the world! The night we spent ( 26th of January) was amazing. The staff, food and atmosphere were unbelievable. You can’t get anything like this anywhere else in Australia. Thank you to all the staff that made our time here so incredible.
P. M.
This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. From the moment you enter the Lodge you are in for the time of your life....how can you beat dining with white lions? The food is magnificent and the tours are incredibly interesting and informative.
L. C.
Amazing, the rooms are beautiful, the staff are friendly, the food was fantastic, the animals outside the rooms are amazing. If you get the chance to stay here make sure you do🐻💜
S. E.
Jamala has many rooms that guests can stay in that are adjacment to enclosures. Each of the enclosures have special wildlife such as sun bears, brown bears, giraffes, tigers. The zoo attached is great with so many experience opportunities, beautiful habitats and many vantage points to see the animals. Very helpful staff throughout the zoo
陳.
Thanks Jamala, friendly staff, cute animals, This trip was really amazing , i couldnt even sleep the whole night, it was so WORTH IT!!!
Z.
Just got back, didn't want to leave! We loved the stunning rooms, the outstanding service and of course the once in a life-time animal encounters. Seriously, just go. If you love animals you'd be mad not to.
A. A.
Truly wonderful getaway, slept literally a couple of meters away from awesome Lions. Cannot believe how unique the experience has been. If only I could've cuddle them as well 🤗
L. S.
Best animal experience l have ever had the pleasure of having apart from my love 2 fury kids... staff 100% , animals 100% & experience 100% worth every penny. Thank you for the wonderful time.
C. B.
Amazing place. Staying in the Giraffe treehouse was truly incredible. Recommend this experience
E. N.
We did not stay at Jamala, but the Meerkat encounter was located here. 15min may not seem like much time for the price (especially when you need to pay for zoo entry as well as for the Meerkat encounter), but the experience was absolutely wonderful. We learned a lot, the keeper was so friendly and informative, and the Meerkats were so playful and interactive. You can pat them, and they climbed on our laps and one sat on my friend's shoulder. A marvelous time.
T. M.
The food is not quite as good as I had expected from a luxury establishment of this quality. The team at Jamala go out of their way to make sure you have the best possible experience with the animals. A bistro or varied food outlets would be a vast improvement.
B. K. (.
Much closer experience with the animals compared to a normal zoo visit. Lovely room. Staff were great and the food fantastic. Highly recommend!
S. P.
Extraordinary, great value, great food, will be back. Stayed on the giraffe tree house for two nights ago, lion lodge next. Stay at least two nights, one is not enough. Where else can you pat a rhinos and have A giraffe at your balcony.
A. B. (.
Hard to express how much we loved this place
T. M.
Jamala lodge is the very special accomodation available which is part of the Canberra Aquarium and zoo. All staff across the complex were great ambassadors for Jamala. Every staff member is passionate and knowledgeable and you really will …
T. M.
We went behind the scene in the area not yet open to the public. After dinner we were safely escorted back to our treehouse via a bus to avoid the monstrous spiders that live in the zoo at night. PS don't expect to sleep they roar all night and I mean ALL night.
M.
Thank you 'Jamala owner' Yes I have been twice now, originally thinking I was super lucky to have been able to go a second time, it was a great experience on both occassions - despite how I feel now! I can see I accidentally rated only three stars with no comment ... I was in the middle of something and must've posted it by mistake as i also had some photos I wanted to show as well ...
Never mind!
Many Thanks
L. G.
Spent a night with Giraffes! It was a beautiful experience, the food is absolutely amazing and the staff are perfect.
K. B.
This was a fantastic experience, the tours were excellent and we saw so many animals up close and they looked very well cared for. The rooms were perfect and the food was very good.

M. M.
An extraordinary opportunity to meet a cheetah. A luxurious experience with wonderful food and great service. The perfect wildlife retreat without leaving Australia.
A. P.
Rooms are set up perfectly with numerous items from South Africa bought back by Richard and Maureen the jungle bungalows set amongst the zoo with the lodge inside the aquarium and the visitors to dinner stunning

The most amazing experience ever! The room was beautiful, spacious and had everything we needed and didn’t realise we needed.
The cheetahs were engaging a joy to watch and the windows into their enclosure was massive.
The included meals in our package were first class, even my fussy daughter loved it all. The best part of the stay were the staff, all of them were so friendly and attentive.
