A. W.Had the best experience at YHA Hobart, with receptionist Sarah. Strongly recommend staying here for efficient and helpful check in, friendly, warm and easy stay.
Had previous accommodation cancelled unexpectedly, called up the YHA. Sarah at the reception was extremely helpful, going out of her way to help get us the best room she could manage for our two nights.
Hostel itself was clean, tidy, professional and had a great friendly and fun environment. Very grateful for our stay!!
S.Where to begin, the hostel is cosy! But a few things.
When I walked into the hostel covid haven't started. A year had passed and the man in front of us finally checks in, but to my dismay another frantic looking gentleman appears to have jumped in front of me looking for some tape, panic sets in as I realise the process will now be delayed yet again, the carnage continus. By the time the receptionist began to check me in Gladys was no longer premier and coronas first strain is a distant memory. Me and friends didnt pre book as we presumed that the hostel had space as hobart isn't exactly the liveliest city in Australia. To our surprise, the girl on reception told us it was actually fully booked, but low and behold we helped her out a bit showing that online there were 10 available beds, there we have it, the cogs turned and we were able to check in. As I began my pilgrimage up the stairs, 80% of Australia has caught and recovered from covid, the world is starting to get back to what we now know as the new 'normal' with interstate travel allowed to those only with their 50th booster, WA borders still remain firmly shut.
Second the stairs, as I lugged my suitcase and two other bags up the stairs, i no longer needed training hike to cradle mountain.
Tired and weary, the year is now 3500, and I have reached my room. The oceans are empty and humans have relocated to Mars, leaving the receptionist and I as the last two remaining life forms on earth.
All qualms aside, a solid 6/10.
M. S. (.Home sweet home. They didn't even kick me out when I vomited all over the front entry way after blacking out on Xanax and drinking enough alcohol to give me permanent brain damage (I cleaned it up). lovely staff. And the bean bags are full of delicious puffed quinoa!

I only found one plug in a room for 8 guest.

T. V.The lady who runs it is wonderful & helpful (even at 7:30am!) and it is clean. It is a basic hostel, beds VERY comfortable but rooms only have 1 plug & a 3 storey walk up. Overall, a good stay but doesn't have the bells & whistles of other hostels. Also not a lot of common space to meet people, but I did get lucky with my roommates!

Above all the location is central to everything which makes all activities accessible and easy to plan to achieve a worth while stay in Hobart.

K. B.Fabulous location, a short stroll to Elizabeth Pier and the best seafood restaurants in Hobart. In the opposite direction is Woolworths supermarket. YHA Central provides neat tidy and clean rooms, comfortable beds, blankets and pillows. The kitchen is functional with a fabulous industrial glass front fridge, cold as in summer, impressive. The bathrooms have been recently renovated, very modern and are individually located and allocated to no more than two dormitories. Plenty of powerful hot water. Each dormitory is fitted with new block out roller blinds, impressive and efficient. There is no lift and it's hard to get heavy luggage up three flights of stairs, although a young fellow obliged in assisting me, typical of the values of the other guests. The town hall clock chimes after midnight at 15 minute intervals, which is really quaint.
H. T.Valuable stay, good location! Staffs are very friendly. Hot water in bathroom(It is the most important for me). Bedroom is tidy and clean. Even stay in the city but here is not noise.

The lounge was a great place to chill and meet new people.
The hostel is in a great location, right near the harbour and centre of the city.

D. m.Good hostel, very central & helpful staff
Make sure you go on the (free) platypus walk and talk with Sarah. Her love of platypus is contagious, she will share lots of great info and show you all the best spots to see them along the hobart rivulet. Water was a bit fast for them during our walk and talk but I was able to see a platypus both times I went looking alone the following evenings!
P. B.We have very pleasant experience staying there. The location is great, rooms are clean, showers are clean. It is very budget friendly and convenient option to stay in a great location
D. M. d. O.For a private room in a hostel for one day in the weekend a charge of $180 was too much; I was expecting at least some better room with one small table... and some more comfort. The room was noise because of the bar and the neighbour apartments. Also no soap or shampoo was provided. In the end don't recommend if you want comfort and quiet place...

D. T.Very convenient location, it's just a short walk to anywhere you need to be. The pier for seafood, supermarket down the road, decent coffee across the road, Salamanca and farmgate markets, the skybus and Mona Roma pick up points, and the CBD for everything else.
Plus amazing and helpful staff, place is also super clean and well looked after.
S. H.It's a good place for a night's stay, but is small compared to other YHAs. The kitchen is also very small and is on the ground floor, which means everytime you need something from the kitchen, you need to climb up and down.
X. A. C.It is a good hostel. It is a bit more expensive than others in Hobart, but it shows the cleanliness and quantity of bathrooms on each floor. The kitchen is very small, you have to queue at breakfast time. And finally a message to those people who snore: pay you a private room!
A. N.Tidy and clean with friendly staff. Bathrooms are excellent: each is self-contained with a toilet, mirror and high-pressure shower.
Unfortunately many (not all) rooms are above the neighbouring bar. Plus the old windows do nothing to stop traffic noise getting in. In other words: the room was loud!
N. H.I made a negative review when I first arrived here, and now I would like to amend that. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, there are private bathrooms, and the location is ideal for exploring the city. It could easily improve on the social aspect of the hostel, maybe by arranging tours to the mountain or having a pizza night. The kitchen is rather small, but it is fully functional and clean.

Locked luggage room. Very small kitchen, no air conditioning so sleeping with windows open brings in a lot of road noise and music from pub just below rooms at night. No lockers in dorm rooms to secure personal items. Tv room drywall plaster hanging from ceiling. One person at reception to check in everyone coming in from tours on busy Saturday evening. There is a staff person always on site but reception closes at 10pm.
K. K. C. (.Stored our baggage here while doing hiking & camping. $5 per bag, pretty cheap and very convenient. Friendly staff and in middle of city, which makes it easy for travelling.
F. Y.Didn't stay, but used their baggage storage services. Perfect if you have a flight in the afternoon or evening. They charged $2 per bag for guests or $5 per bag for non guests and were open from 8am. Very friendly and secure, highly recommend.

N.YHA was charged me more than other hostel for similar room structure, but smaller kitchen.
No power ports near bed. Toilets were clean and big. Best part is its in the most convenient location.
The staff was projecting a rough and tough image. Particularly one bichh , who behaved as if she owned the whole city and if I seeked her house for free. This lady with curly hair was arrogant in explaining things. Not friendly host.

R. H.I stayed in a lot yha hostels in Australia but the yha in Hobart is the best I've ever stayed. Stuff is friendly, bathrooms are really clean and so is the kitchen. Can definitely recommend this hostel.
T. J.Position. Position. Position. A block from the waterfront, museums and transport hub. On the edge of the cbd. Our ensuite double room had a bar fridge. Bed very comfortable. Towels soft and good condition. However living on the edge means some noise. Tiny kitchen means a bit of a shuffle. 42 steps to our second floor steps could be a challenge with big bags. Terry
