B. L.This is an outstanding hotel. The design of each room reflects local history, and the harbour side rooms have wonderful views of the docks, the city, and Kunanyi. This is definitely a five star hotel, but this could be 6 stars if the staff provided some interest in your visit. The staff were all very professional, but the outstanding examples of customer service experienced during previous international travel involved those hotels where staff were genuinely concerned with making your visit one to be remembered.
C. C. S.We stayed 2 nights at the third floor. Loved everything about it except for the very soft bed that hurt ny back but, the food, the bedroom, the location and view is magnificent. The price at the third floor bit too much from my own experience but other than that we had a great stay.
K. K.Ok this is the place to stay when you are in Hobart, there I have said it! Every room has a story and it is truly fascinating. Their rooms are so well done, the staff go above and beyond and I simply could rest my head here for a week. We stayed in an ocean view room (or whatever it is called we could see water)! Room service is the first room service I have had that is worth the money, the meals are huge and delicious. This curated hotel is simply a must stay.
v. z.Very stylish hotel in a magic location. The unique little theme/story to every room is a cool touch. we received a little gift which was unexpected and very appreciated. It's a small thing but the pillows are on point! We had an incredible sleep which makes all the difference when being away from home.
M.Amazing service throughout our stay from all the staff, the room was elegant and really spacious. Loved the view and the breakfast in the morning was ridiculously good, chefs and service staff on point. Do yourself a favour and order the Cape Grim burger for room service, one of, if not the best burgers I’ve had. The tiramisu was also perfect 👌 Will definitely stay again; the adjacent bars and complex itself is in an amazing location for easily getting to plenty of other food and entertainment destinations.
A. C.We stayed here for four nights to finish off our honeymoon and we’re very glad we did. Amazing decor and we had a lovely view of the port. Very convenient location for catching ferry to MONA or joining a tour to Bruny Island. Also walking distance to lots of great bars and restaurants and the Tasmania Art Gallery. Would recommend getting breakfast included as it is awesome and they will give you coffee to start and a takeaway coffee to end. Very happy with the service.

Justin went out of his way to make sure our experience was perfect in every way and he thoroughly engaged us in the historical facts in a knowledgeable and humourous way. His passion and enthusiasm towards the history of Hobart was contagious.
V. J.My friend Pam and I stayed at Mac 01 from 4 to 8 Febuary 2022. It was fantastic. The staff were so friendly and we loved our stay. Comfy beds, lovely food, and we were thoroughly looked after.
We had ordered twin beds but had a double so we were given a free drink while they split the bed for us. we missed a boxed breakfast we had ordered as we had an early start, but were given an Uber ride to the airport on our departure. Great customer service!
I would stay there again. Was so convienient. A truly beautiful hotel.

L. J.I spent a few days extra here than planned with the lockdown and I was very glad I was in such a nice space. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the location is perfect and the rooms are great. The TVs are a bit outdated which normally wouldn’t bother me but when locked in a room - streaming services would be a good option (my fault I’ll pack a chrome cast front now one trust me). The bars and food downstairs are top notch. It will be my new Hobart base for future trips.
E.Best hotel we have ever stayed at! The rooms were spacious, bed very comfortable, you can choose what type of pillow you want, bathroom modern with heated floors, cocktail bar set up in your room. The staff were exceptional, anything we needed was attended to instantly and with a friendly smile. The restaurants and bars within the hotel complex are second to none. We will definitely be back!

T. P.We so enjoyed our stay here in October 2021. The team were extremely accommodating. As we were celebrating my 30th they even brought up free bubbly and coal river chocolate with a card. The rooms are great, quite a dark theme. It certainly feels very historical. I would suggest opting for a water view if you can afford it. The street view is simply the building beside, however the rooms and cafe an resteraunt are great enough that it wasn't an issue for us.

i. U.Fantastic, would stay again at the drop of a hat. Rooms as good as anywhere in the world, fantastic layout particularly seperate luggage area. Heated bathroom floor. Overhead shower rosey so no door required. Shampoos etc. superb. Not only did they look after our bags until our flight that evening, but they could not do enough for us sitting in the lounge while we waited. All the waiting staff and reception were excellent, real smiles no fakes. Big shout to Lucy who will also take you for a history walk (walked the day before and didn't have a clue what we walked on), fantastic service and part of the hotel service for free. Quite fascinating. Top effort, a top hotel.
Y. Å. M. Ê. Z.Beautiful atmosphere and stylish surroundings make this one of my favourite Hobart restaurants. The seasonal menu is always fresh and lively. The staff make every meal a memorable occasion by providing seamless, friendly and attentive service. 10/10
G. C.We used the Tasmania Travel voucher and stayed at MACq 01 for one night. The receptionist was very helpful and polite during both check in and check out. There was a great deal as well, the forbidden voucher which included $100 food and drink credit that we used at the Landscape Restaurant and Grill to enjoy beautiful fine-dining night. Though we chose the cheapest room hunter street room, it was very spacious and comfy. We really enjoy our stay and definitely recommend to everyone!

Justin the walking tour guide (which was a free provided experience with the stay) was a particular stand out. He went above and beyond to make the experience interesting and you could tell he has a genuine love for his job. Food was delicious, rooms are emasculate and I would highly recommend doing the Frida’s sip and paint which is located in the hotel grounds. I will definitely be staying again! xx

Sitting by the fire on a cool evening with a glass of red is a must. Went back a different evening just to be there again, so it goes without saying I’d highly recommend this hotel and restaurant. 😊

A. K.Fantastic staff who dealt with some very rude customers with respect and dignity. Honestly although the hotel is fine, the staff is what really made it shine. I often lost my key and they were always courteous and kind. There were some very intoxicated and disorderly people from a conference and the staff went out of their way to make sure that not only other customers and guests were okay during the rowdy times, but also that the disorderly conference people got home safely. I was very impressed.

J. S.A beautiful new hotel on the scenic Hobart wharves. The waterfront location is lovely. The service from the staff was definitely 5 star, and once they found out we had a birthday, we were treated to a lovely birthday card and some very nice champagne. The terrace suites are huge, the bathroom was amazing and the terrace overlooking the harbour made the whole stay worthwhile. Once I save up again we'll go back especially with such a great location in the CBD yet right on the water.
M.Booked two superior waterfront suites for a family of 4 for our last night in Tasmania after a 10 day road trip before heading home. I wanted to end it with a bang and that’s exactly what we did and MacQ 01 delivered!! The hotel rooms were large, spacious, very clean, luxurious with a big wow factor. Loved that there was a story to every room based on a person from the 1800s... nice touch ! The staff were friendly and provided excellent service from valet parking, to check in, to room service !! The wharf restaurant was fabulous and we dined here for dinner and breakfast, while the kids ordered room service for breakfast as they love to sleep in. We were able to have a late check out which we really enjoyed. Outstanding hotel stay with great memories!!!

T. B.Stayed in the penthouse and was treated like royalty. Never stayed anywhere that's made me feel so special and left me with a permanent smile on my face. Staff were amazing, room was phenomenal. Stayed on my own and they were more than happy to oblige when I requested someone to come and take pics of me on the balcony! Also one of the best bars I've ever been to. Would happily come back to TAS just for this hotel

A. H.Felt like staying at a museum with exhibits of Hobart's history in the hallways and every room comes with its own story and mini display. Hotel was clean, with great waterfront views. Bed was quite comfy for hotel standards and the bathroom was massive. Included valet parking in the heart of Hobart is definitely a plus too

A great base for a weekend away. There are two bars adjoining the reception area and they both offer great atmosphere and drinks.
It’s not as close to Salamanca or the CBD as some other hotels but is still my preferred location.

Service was excellent. Awesome views from seated area as well as on the deck. Toilets were impeccably clean. Artifacts and a fire place were a special touch. Good value for money. MACq 01 is a storytelling hotel, with each room telling it's own story through a plaque on the door and a display of artefacts visible immediately upon entrance.
Accommodation was in a Premium Waterfront Suite with an abundance of indoor and outdoor space, tastefully decorated showcasing crafts from Tasmanians.
The accompanying images gives a glimpse into the accommodation and facilities.
The views across the docks to the City, surrounding suburbs and Mt Wellington constantly changed throughout the three days from bright sunshine, rain and cloud, making for some great images.
The Old Wharf Restaurant provided an outstanding breakfast with both presentation and taste first class....selection over the three days included Smoked Salmon Bagel and MACq 01 Big Breakfast.
From check-in to check-out and everything in between it was an outstanding experience.

The beds were fantastic, the the bathroom was large and extremely well appointed (no doors, which we aren't keen on). We ordered a foldaway bed for the last night and to our surprise they wheeled in a fully made up king size single. We were disappointed with the hotel restaurant (not bad,just not great) but there are many other options around.

S. N. K.My friend and I had an amazing stay in this 5-star property. Located next to the pier, this hotel offers all the services you would fall in love. Unfortunately, the pier view rooms were sold out and we stayed on the other side. Yea! We had to compromise on the view. However, everything else was too notch. The room had everything; they made sure even the tiny detail of the room is taken care.
The shower area and toilet is separate; with a dressing area and a mirror selfie spot. Trust me; I had taken a lot of selfies of me. Wish the shower was a bit bigger. They use the toiletries provided by The Appelles Apothecary, which I believe one of the best in market in par with the Aesop. Loved the body cream, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner; I have even bought one myself after returning from the trip.
The hotel restaurant offers delicious breakfast and has a open kitchen design. The reception is quite laid back and has a huge fireplace in the middle. The hotel room service also offers overnight dining menu, which serves limited but amazing food that are priced perfectly.
The in room mini bar offered finest collection of wines, whiskies and some good snacks. As you open the wardrobe you will get the best bathrobe you would ever find in any hotel rooms; you can even buy one right from the reception. Australia’s first story telling hotel, each room in MACq 01 has a unique story that is waiting for you to find out.
The corridors are soo spacious that almost resembles a cruise ship interior. They had many antiques pieces on display on the hallways, each attached with a tiny note describing the item. The hotel location is perfect and offers access to city, Salamanca cove, pier shops were they sell delicious sea food and is very near to Ferry which takes you to MONA. Overall, a fabulous stay and would love to visit again.

W.A must stay in Hobart. I spent four nights here and experienced the most comfortable sleep of my life. Their exceptional beds and pillow menu options really are the icing on the cake of an already stunning hotel. The morning walking tour was informative and fun and I highly recommend signing up for it. I’ll be coming back to stay every time I visit Hobart!

I am absolutely smitten by how beautiful this place is. We stayed here for 2 nights for our 6th wedding anniversary. Loved every bit of it, the staff went above and beyond to make sure our anniversary was well spent. Very caring and accomodating, beautiful smiling faces, warm and welcoming , gave us an upgrade on the room as well!
I am very sure this is the only place i am staying when we come to Hobart again.

Our bags were brought up from the valet downstairs and when we got to our room and were settling in admiring the view we received some complimentary champagne & a congratulations note. M. T.A stunning hotel. I was fortunate to secure a room over the water. It's a pretty amazing view when you wake up to this! The rooms are pretty spacious too.
MACq 01 do a great breakfast. It's also worth noting the bar with some incredible world-class scotch, whiskey and gin. The hotel is also home to an immaculate art collection.

B. T.I have been to macq 01, twice now and the menu hasnt changed, have tried most things on the menu and nothing stands out, not much different to pub food. Charged for a drink we didnt order as the staff got the order wrong, definitely over priced but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in room 313 which meant we had an outdoor astro turf terrace which added a new level of enjoyment to our stay.
Overall, we couldn't fault this hotel and will absolutely stay here on any future trips to Hobart.

I merely mentioned offhand that the reason we would be in Hobart was for my partners 30th. Not only did they note that, but our rooms were upgraded and they surprised my partner with a card and a cake.
They have my custom for life, but they already had that with the sheer passion that went into the design of hotel. It is stunning in its modern sleekness and reeks of a unique character.
This makes for a great business,
but it is without a doubt the staff themselves, as genuine, confident and charismatic as they were, that makes this hotel human, warm and welcoming.

Oh.My.God, this hotel was one of the most beautiful hotels we stayed at for many reasons but here are the top reasons why:
- location, location, location. in the heart of the city with stunning views
- We booked a Hunter street view room, yet at check in we were told we were upgraded to the nicest room with a view of the pier
- outstanding customer service from start to finish
- DELICIOUS room service. Definitely a must do if you are staying in the view room
- A hotel that tells a story, a real story, a proud story of history and heritage. In fact, we felt quite honoured to stay in a place that took so much pride in re-telling those stories.
- Comfiest bed and STUNNING bathroom.

M. D.We recently stayed here while visiting Australia for our honeymoon and this hotel was truly an unexpected gem. MACq01 did an excellent job of utilizing the unique space along the Hobart waterfront to deliver a unique, beautiful, and fun atmosphere. The hotel itself is decorated to highlight the artistic aspects of Tasmania that have flourished thanks to its unique location. This decor made the hotel very cool - and did not at all feel forced or artificial. Our room had a harbor view and the layout of the room was designed to absolutely maximize this beautiful sight. Our room also included complimentary breakfast in one of the hotel restaurants every morning, which was excellent and had excellent service. The location of the hotel also gives you a short walk to everything that Hobart has to offer.
This was also the hotel that most made us feel spoiled while staying here for our honeymoon. Upon arrival to our room, we found printed pictures from our wedding several days prior. It turns out that our travel agent had reached out to each of the four hotels we were staying at during our trip asking to provide wedding photos in our room, and MACq01 was the only one of these four that provided this touch. Also, after we checked in to our room we were visited with personally delivered glasses of sparkling wine. The front desk also helped us organize a last minute trip up to Mt Wellington very easily. We would highly recommend anyone visiting Hobart to stay here!
K.This hotel is very well located and I loved the theme of highlighting the characters of yesterday that made Hobart such an interest port.
Staff are A-MA-ZING and went out of their way to help make our stay great. The daily breakfast is also a highlight with a selection of dishes going beyond poached eggs and cereal that work to be both delicious and a surprise.
The rooms are generous and well appointed but the ‘no door’ bathroom and shower make it tricky if you want to share a twin room. Lighting needs some adjustment. I like mood lightning but not when I’m trying to put makeup on.

Annika, our butler, was amazing and made our week long stay even more incredible. She organised some ironing for us and organised a great salted bath for me and my partner. We ordered room service a couple of nights which was really delicious. Our breakfast was included each morning and we had a choice of either or hot menu item or continental buffet or both. Ate at the hotel's restaurant one night and it was really fantastic food. Has to have one of the best locations in Hobart, walking distance to pretty much anything! The Story Bar and the Evolve Spirits Bar are both great places for a drink pre or post dinner. Will definitely be back!

Nothing is too much or difficult. Even being able to swap the mattress for a firmer one! This place is amazing. Absolutely recommend it. N. T.Macq01 is one of my favourite hotels. I have stayed in many 4 & 5 star hotels and this is one of the best. The design is incredible, rooms are beautiful with huge bathrooms and great balconies with ocean views. Get breakfast included, it’s excellent. If you can splurge on a premium ocean view suite, do it. Otherwise, the regular ocean view room is excellent. Hotel includes free parking, free new release movies and free walking tours. It has a unique storytelling theme and Evolve bar is not to be missed, which is themed around fossils.
m.Beautifully designed hotel with large, warm, modern rooms and facilities. An excellent kitchen, with professional, friendly staff serves a dining room that overlooks Franklin Wharf up to the mountain. It's all just very good.
L. B.Staying at Macq for 2 nights. Reception lovely, rooms larger than most, clean and fabulous view. Downside to the water view room is it was very noisy with workman. This is temporary so wouldn’t stop me from returning. My only reason for the 3 stars is the wait staff at breakfast this morning. I found the person whom I am assuming is the manager very rude abrupt and defensive. Paying the prices that this hotel is asking requires great service from all levels. I wouldn’t bother with the breakfast next time as there is some good cafes close by that the service was efficient, fast and friendly which is what you want on a holiday.

C. O.I wasn't so sure about the idea of a "story hotel," but MACq 01 does an excellent job with the idea. Each room is themed after somebody from Tasmania's history, in an interesting way. The rooms are spacious and well-decorated, and if you can get a room with a balcony the views are wonderful! Take the free guided tour of downtown Hobart the hotel offers, you'll learn all sorts of things. The hotel restaurant is so-so, which is fine since it's within walking distance of all the food you could want in Hobart.

The hotel has many self park spots as well as free valet.
The staff were friendly and well presented and our requests were promptly answered.
The room itself was very generously proportioned. We had a second floor city side room. The bedroom was divided from the bathroom by a large WIR with a very well stocked mini bar.
The shower had good water pressure and the toilet was separated from the shower area. The toiletries were by Apelles Apothecary and Lab and smelled Devine.
I highly recommend this hotel if you were to visit Hobart.

The staff went beyond what you would expect and not only upgraded us to the most stunning room but also were very accommodating to my partners requests of having 24 red roses, champagne, chocolates and a gift for me all set out in the room prior to us arriving.
Every staff member we came across seemed to know it was our anniversary and took the time out to wish us well.
We ate at the restaurant there and the food and service was DEVINE! They even gave us a glass of sparkling wine on the house to celebrate.

J.Outstanding hotel on the water in historic Hobart. The “Story” Hotel where each room has a dedication to a famous or infamous Tasmanian. The rooms are superb, large and with beautiful bathrooms although the could be lit better - ladies will be a little frustrated in doing their make up. The bed is super king and ensures a superb nights sleep. Peaceful, classy, sophisticated and sexy. The gym is adequate without being great, but still has a couple of bikes and treadmills etc. Service is first class but extremely friendly which you would expect in Tassie. The breakfast is wonderful with high class buffet and lovely A La Carte menu. Highly recommend.

P. L.Stayed in one of their top line rooms. Don't get me wrong from the four stars, this is hands down the best elite hotel experiences going in Hobart at the moment, but that also means as a reviewer it behooves me to be a bit more stringent. There are a number of small things that alone just niggle. Lots of USB charging ports but no cables. No room in the fridge for the small carton of milk to sit flat once opened. The room is checked while you are out for dinner and tidied but the Nespresso machine wasn't restocked. It's a long way to the sole lift, there are stairs at the far end but they are unmarked as fire exits - if you go through and realise you have forgotten something, have to go all the way around. But I guess the biggest thing I noticed was that the only place observable Braille existed was on the lift and the room number. Nothing at all in the rooms. In 2017, not having this as default just isn't good enough. Despite this, the quality of the bed, bath, balcony, mini bar and snacks, staff, main bar, restaurant, and build is thoroughly excellent - I just can't bring myself, without spending time investigating, to recommend this venue for anyone with what some call special needs, so minus one star.
