P. D.We recently had our last night in Hobart at the Moss Hotel. We loved it.
The location is perfect, right in the middle of Salamanca.
The building is historic and the rooms reflect this with a great mix of the old and the new. They have left the old world charm but added stunning modern fixtures, especially in the bathroom and the decorations.
I would definitely recommend this place if you want to be close to everything and in a very good hotel.
V. Z.We stayed at Moss 25 for one night and it definitely exceeded our expectation. The building is hidden from the street, there's no grand entrance, but as soon as you enter, you will be surprised by the elegant and enchanted vibe created by walls of indoor plants. The room is clean, modern and the bed is comfortable. The location is perfect - right in the center of Battery Point / Salamanca Place. Heaps of restaurants, bars, bakeries around. It is right opposite to the wharf where you can catch the ferry to MONA.
A. T.We had a fantastic stay at Moss. We were in Building 39 in a Grove Bath room. It was super quiet, even on Saturday morning as the markets were pumping (one of the benefits of not having a view, I guess!)
The room was comfy – especially loved all the delicious local treats in the minibar. The bathroom layout was a little funny and a bit of a splash zone, but the rain shower was a treat.
You honestly can't beat the location being so close to the harbourfront restaurants as well as Battery Point; I felt it was great value overall.
If you need parking, make sure you phone ahead to secure (it's tricky to navigate the first time but easy enough once you've done it).

Placement of light switches and hidden cupboards can be a little annoying, so be sure to read the instructions as advised.
Bathrooms are amazing with heated floors and Grown Alchemy products, however handheld shower head quite inconvenient without physically holding it the entire shower (rain shower head is phenomenal if you don't mind getting your hair wet)
T. T. Q.We had the opportunity to stay at Moss Hotel during the last few days of our belated honeymoon in Tasmania. The central location is ideal for exploring Hobart with easy access to the MONA ferry and super close to beautiful Battery Point. We were blown away by the incredible design elements throughout the hotel, with super spacious rooms that don't sacrifice on comfort. If you are a light sleeper, we'd recommend requesting a room that doesn't overlook Salamanca Place, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. We experienced wonderful service from the staff and loved the extra touch of the red apples and robes. Highly recommend!
J. B.Unfortunately gained a room next to the elevator which isn’t ideal when you’re on your honeymoon. The green wall needs attention, quite a few dead plants. Bench above coffee station is also dirty. I can also see into a neighbouring room when they don’t have their blinds closed.

Our only regret is that we didn't stay here longer.
It occupies floors one and up from there with a Pub located on the bottom floor. Easy to get to, easy to navigate around and the fit-out of the hotel is both modern and a nod to what was in the building previously. Edgy, stylish, quite and well thought out also come to mind for ways to describe.
Check-in process was easy and the staff gave us some great recommendations on where to eat and drink.
As mentioned, super cool Hotel and somewhere we'd definitely come back to you when next visiting Hobart.

L. B.Walking into the reception of this 1830’s Georgian sandstone building from the bustling Salamanca Place was like an ascent into an ancient, beautifully furnished, cave! We were welcomed into a completely visceral experience with the smell and sound of the live feature wall, water dripping and collecting in each fern and moss, the pleasantly dim interior, as well as the wallaby skins adorning the furniture all contributing to the feeling of escapism one is looking for from the accomodation on ones travels. We felt that Moss completely embodied the heritage area it is located in, as well as the natural wilderness of Tasmania in general. Despite having a car which we were able to park extremely conveniently and affordably, we found ourselves located perfectly to explore Hobart by foot, being within walking distance to some of the best culinary experiences Tasmania has to offer. The large bath, with soothing salts refreshed daily was another unique and personal touch that made relaxing into this home away from home effortless and memorable.

J. S.Gorgeous renovated colonial warehouse accommodation, right in middle of Salamanca. Loved the exposed original features. Clean modern bathroom. The only minor issue - bathroom floor heating didn't seem to work in our room, and tea cups were stylish, but too hard to hold and too small for a decent cuppa... Minor stuff really...
w. t.The staff were so beautiful! Incredibly welcoming and gave me so many tips on places to eat nearby for my blog.
Couldn't fault the hotel itself, the design was gorgeous and there were Grown Alchemist products in the bathroom and bath salts for the deep soaking bathtub I had in the room.
Loved waking up on the Saturday morning to see the Salamanca markets down below... can't beat that location.

C. C.The hotel is brand new and nicely appointed. Each room is a bit different and a mix of contemporary styling and the heritage of the site. Call the hotel ahead of time if you’re after a specific room feature (e.g big window with view of Salamanca) We would recommend a short stay of 1-2 nights as the rooms are small and the hotel lacks amenities like a gym or bar, just something to make being in the hotel a warmer experience. Excellent location though within walking distance of the markets, piers, battery point and CBD. This is why you should stay here. Remember to expect more ambient noise from surrounding restaurants/bars around the weekend.
The bathroom (including toilet) is separated from the small room by just a frosted glass “door” with plenty of gaps. A contentious choice.
Car park for the hotel is easily accessible, we didn’t have an issue.
If your budget can stretch a bit further you might try macq01 instead. It’s more of a walk to Salamanca but offers much more space and all of amenities you would expect at the price.
tldr: This is a fine option if you’d like a unique experience, don’t mind the price and love the colour green.

The aesthetic was moody and luxurious and we couldn't have hoped for a better location for our stay in Hobart- it was walking distance to everything we wanted. Can't wait to get back!

LOVED the interior of The Moss - so in keeping with the old building but still completely modern and comfortable (the moss-green tiles in the bathroom as divine!). M. W.Stylish hotel, perfectly located in the heart of Salamanca Place. We stayed in Grove room which was very spacious with a luxurious bed and a fantastic rain shower. Perfect for unwinding after long days exploring Hobart and the surrounds! We loved the dark green, moody decor and exposed wood beams. The staff were great too and very accommodating to our requests for parking and to change our room based on personal preferences when we originally checked in. Would love to stay again!
M.My husband and I recently had a two week tour around Tasmania (April 2021) starting and finishing in Hobart. On both occasions in Hobart, at the beginning and end of our trip, we stayed at The Moss and absolutely loved it!
Naturally, it is very well located, but it was more about the overall style (which is gorgeous), ethos and personal service at The Moss that made an impression on us...everything was absolutely on point, we loved it and are looking forward to coming back again....and again :)
T. P.Great boutique and modern hotel. Staff were very friendly. The rooms felt very lux and even had bathroom floor heating which felt amazing. I stayed in room 11 and my only concern was the noise from the pub underneath, luckily there were ear plugs next to the bed. Would defiantly stay again next time I’m down.

M.Stayed here for a Saturday night away with my partner. Very friendly receptionist, wonderful room design the bathroom fantastic. Once you get to your room all the sounds of the Saturday night party life disappears to peaceful silence. A cute pack of postcards was left as a gift to us with a lovely message on one hoping we would enjoy our stay and boi did we. Will definitely go again, just a beautiful, quite, friendly and relaxing place to stay.

M.Located in the heart of Salamanca stands the MOSS a 1840’s Sandstone building with a unique luxurious interior furnished using with beautiful ferns that presents a warm and heartfelt welcome and is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The rooms are extremely clean and spacious with ample amount on sunlight through the windows.
Most importantly the staff is great especially Rod the GM. He is a very proud of his Hotel and has very welcoming personality and is always ready for a chat. He personally toured me throughout both the buildings and showed me all the room types and then offered me a Room that was facing the Salamanca stretch. This room was magnificently designed with luxurious carpets and a comfy bed that you can sink into after a busy day. The room was also equipped with a spacious and a modern shower.
Rod, thank you for making my stay a dream, loved every minute and I can’t wait to get back.

The hotel is lovely by the way, we stayed in room 21 on the second floor which was very nice with old world windows, exposed ceilings. I hear from the staff that room 20 is great too. On the corner with more windows and a better view too.
Parking options are good too and worth the $20 a night for convenience. I hear the parking inspectors are ruthless in Hobart so watch out!!!

R.I didn't have a booking, i just called around hotels when i arrived in hobart. While some treated me like a bother as i had no booking and had arrived late in the day, this motel was welcoming and didn't treat me like a bother at all, I was very happy with the service. I also liked the overall look of the interiors, comfortable warm and stylish. They use quite nice products for the complimentary soaps, shampoos etc.
Overall I am very happy with the experience and would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in the area.

R. V.Great boutique hotel at Salamanca Place area with spacious designer rooms, moss green interiors, close to the Wharf and at the doorstep of the famous Saturday markets. Rooms generally don't have a work desk so you will need to pop into one of the friendly cafes nearby to do work.
