W. R.The staff were human, lovely people. For what it advertised it provided in an exponential sense. The only gripe was that one of the stair cases was an uneven number, the fourth one I believe, and this caused me a small piece of bother (threw off my left leg completely) 🙂 completely recommend.
L. T.My partner Tiffany booked Alabama for the first two nights in Hobart. To be honest, I was a little sceptical because it was soo cheap. We arrived late Wednesday evening and from then my mind and initial thought of Alabama changed! The guest service was amazing, they made sure that we had arrived safely and we were safe and sound in the hotel. After laying in the room and took a walk around during the day, everything and everyone was placed to make you feel welcomed. To top it off when checking out, my partner and I both thought the other one had checked out and handed in the key. One hour drive down the road and we realised we still had the key with us. The amazing staff gave us a solution that didn't ruin our amazing vacation. Thank you so much to the friendly team and we definitely recommend Alabama to all!
B. H.Stayed here for one night to kick off our trip in Tassie and can absolutely recommend it if you're looking for a cheaper room in a central location and don't mind sharing bathrooms with other guests. The bar is awesome and has a very welcoming vibe.
T. w.I have nothing but good things to say about this funky, adorable and welcoming hotel.
First of all, the staff are amazing, friendly, kind and are there and ready to help you, you feel like you're being welcomed in by an old friend. The lounge area and balcony are perfect little spots to sit and chill out, the decor is retro/funky bright and colourful and there are so many beautiful plants, colours and cool items to look at. We stayed in a 2 bed room with a shared bathroom, everything is very clean and well maintained. It is in the city centre so everything is within a ten minute walk. I decided to stay an extra night before heading off to my next destination because I loved the place so so much. This will be my go to when staying in Hobart from now on, can't wait to be back :)
L. T.Excellent bar with very old school living room vibes going on. The accommodation was definitely older and had that old building carpet smell going on (not bad, just noticeable) but everything was clean and the staff were really friendly. Would definitely stay here again.
M. A.The hotel is just perfect. I stayed for 2 nights during my hiking trip during the new years and my stay was very comfortable. Check in was late for me but enough information provided so that I have all the information required. The room was clean. The shared toilet/bath was also very clean. The bar located at level 1 was a bonus with funky thriving vibe. All the people working there had smiling faces whenever I communicated with them. Very friendly and efficient services provided by the crew. Will definitely stay again when I visit Hobart next time.

Clean, friendly helpful staff, on-site bar open until 8/9pm with a range of local alcoholic beverages and outdoor balcony, shared bathroom, environmentally friendly, warm, quiet and relaxed vibe. Loved the big bed to myself, little fridge, desk and storage for luggage and clothes. There is no elevator and a few stairs but easy enough to walk up with suitcases.
S.The terrace at Alabama hotel was lovely! Visited there for having a couple of wine with my friends during evening and because loved the view and vibe there, decided to go having coffee in the morning. Loved the terrace with cute seats and great staff.

j.Very cool hotel in the center of the city. Nice par inside and good facilities. Bathrooms are shared with few rooms but they were always very clean. Hot water is provided for your tea or still just for drinking. There is a heater in the room and a mini fridge too.
R. G.You can't get a better location than this, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, no loud noises woke us up overnight and the whole experience couldn't have gone more smoothly. Each floor had a male and female bathroom consisting of 2 spacious shower areas and a toilet cubicle and a separate hand basin area. I was never waiting for a shower, but could have used a bathroom on the other floor if so. The lounge/bar area was very social and welcoming, and I loved the decor. The street entrance was so small we walked past it the first time, but once inside it opens up into a large space. Very happy The Alabama Hotel was able to accommodate us.

Some noise at night with guests moving around and talking which the doors didn't seem to keep out of the room. Otherwise fantastic location and great price. Staff really helpful and friendly.

Having a drink in the bar each evening before we ventured out was definitely the highlight.
Between Gabbi (Hopefully that's spelled correctly) mixing up a mean Gin based drink and Ella with her warm fun loving presence, you really do feel at home here as a guest. Could not recommend the hotel and the staff highly enough, one of the best stays we have had in a long time! Will definitely be back and tell everyone about how good it is!

K. R.When I first moved to Hobart as a backpacker, I stayed across the road from the Alabama looking over it and wishing I was there, and I finally was! The real magic is the bar and balcony, with a great selection, vibe and aesthetic, but the rooms definitely keep tje character. Tall doors with painted glass, old windows that make you feel like you're in a chicago loft and beautiful impressive plants. Something about the novelty of taking the glass bottles of water into my room felt so exciting for me. The street is so quiet at night I could hear the pedestrian crossing beeping (Sun-Wed stay) The location is a no brainer, being in the centre of the city was great, but felt so tucked away in the room at night. Staff are beyond friendly, chatty and outgoing. I met 4 different people and all embodied this, so welcoming, really going the extra mile. Thank you for the neem oil tip for my mealy bugged senecio! Get a drink at the bar, sit on the balcony on a sunny afternoon among the plants, wander to town for dinner and back with no driving or parking, and then the ease of just heading back upstairs into that historic building for the night. Can't wait to stay again

M. H. V.Very nice little hotel/hostel, that manages to make a cheap stay into an interesting experience... Not everything was perfect - the bed was sacking a bit, and there was only one male toilet to share with other rooms and the front bar/cafe which gets outside visitors... But it is a rare thing to find cheap city accommodation that actually leaves a memorable experience... If you're not too fussy about comfort/convenience then I highly recommend this place.

The hotel room was comfortable and quiet, with enough space in the room. (Stayed in a twin) Bathroom was always clean and I liked the touch of handmade soap provided when you arrive. I also like the bar area which is perfect for chilling, to read a book or browse on your phone etc. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
T. S. (.Loved this hotel! Staff were so friendly and gave us loads of advice for our trip. The rooms were great, beds super comfy. No issues at all with having communal bathrooms, they were clean and showers were hot, never had to wait to use them. The lounge area was great too, very cosy and a great selection of local drinks on offer. Felt like home from home. We will definitely be staying here when we come back to Hobart!

There was ample hot water, it was quiet, and I love how the place is decorated. The staff were energetic, upbeat, polite, and very helpful. Conveniently located near many great sights and restaurants as well. Would stay here in a heartbeat. Good WIFI and coin operated laundry as well.

Whimsical. That's the word for the Alabama. Unless you are looking for Motel 6-beige-on-beige, everyone will find something to like here. I enjoyed the comfortable lounge with a beer, coffee or snack.
The folks are friendly, the rooms are very clean, neatly arranged, and comfortable. You have a short walk to the bathroom, so pass the Alabama by if that bothers you. But, you will miss out on the fun.
W.Excellent Value. Right in the middle of town and only a 20 minute walk from the Harbor. Cozy bar just after the entrance. Excellent, laid back but professional staff. Nice and clean. If travelling by car you can get a park out on the street at the right time but the multi story a block away costs about $8 overnight (max I paid at peak time was $20). Basic rooms but that is reflected in the price and the shared bathroom wasn't busy and wasn't lacking in privacy. Best of all they had actual toilet paper.
