D. H.The rooms are definitely nice. Good air conditioning and nice beds. There is a toilet and a shower in the room which actually is pretty good. The people who are cleaning didn't really do a good job, cause it was a bit dirty after a few days staying there. I stayed there for a bit over a week.
The people in the reception are definitely very nice and helpful.
The kitchen is unfortunately a mess and it misses equipment to cook properly.
C. G.Decent enough hostel with reasonable prices. The rooms go up to 16 beds which can be a bit much, the toilet facilities are quite large and relatively clean which is good.
The staff are generally knowledgeable and friendly, the kitchen is large but there were not many pans or utensils. Even though there are tags to attach to bags in the fridges, I still had food stolen from my bag.
Good location for town and for public transport, the wifi is relatively decent and it's not too loud there.
A. M.Stayed here 2x. The first time I stayed as a couple, the room was small but seemed clean, shared showers were fine and staff were friendly the first time. The second time I stayed was after a very long flight and I was not well. I tried to store my heavy travel bag there for the day so I didn't need to carry it, but the very rude American receptionist said no and told me to pay $8 for a locker and the price for the bed was already pricey. I stayed in female bunk room, the sheets seemed clean, the bathroom fine. Breakfast was okish. However, it's expensive and overrated and maybe a bit dodgy and dingy. I'd recommend this place to party backpackers who want to make friends.
M.Very crowded place. My floor only had 2 toilets for the entire floor. So there was a long line every morning. The rooms were separated far from common area which made it good at night when people wanted to sleep. Laundry was expensive, $9 for one complete cycle. Kitchen was very big and lots of cooking space. Free rice bin for guest. Lots of food freebies left on shelf for people to share. The couches and chairs were old and broken. Soon as you walk out the front doors is smoking, and you can't escape the smoke and are forced to walk through it all. Could be a very nice place, just needs some updates. Free towels to shower with was nice. But the shower was hard to maintain. It would go from super cold to super hot and kept switching.
H. S.Great experience very accommodating staff considering that it was a backpacker's. Very neat rooms and bathrooms, kitchens especially well setup taking into consideration the amount of rooms per floor. One suggestion is for more cold chain storage space.
L. D.This would honestly be one of the best hostels in Melbourne if they just cleaned. When we arrived the front door was boarded up so you have to go in the back way. The reception area was absolutely disgusting and smelled awful and the luggage room they had looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. I was honestly so disappointed. By the time we came back to check in it looked like it was cleaned up a little bit more. When we got to our room the floor had a thick layer of dirt on it. We couldn’t lay in our beds without wiping our feet off on a towel first. The beds were actually pretty comfortable and we generally had a good nights sleep. They claim to have free WiFi but there a limit on how long you can be on it. Which is very inconvient when you are trying to apply for jobs. They clean the bathrooms once every two or three days just by spraying everything down in chemicals. I felt very dirty the whole time I was there. The staff were always so nice and helpful, the security lady at night was so sweet and made me feel very safe. We ended up staying an extra week and just got used to how dirty it was. If the discovery committed to keeping the hostel clean then I think it would be a great hostel.
R. G.Pictures do not represent what the place looks like now, which is run down and dirty. Not the staff's fault though, the place just accommodates more people than they can clean up after. Also, the bottom floor is currently under renovation. A lot of noise due to the layout, but security does seem to be cracking down on the late night partying in the common areas. On the positive side, the rooms are clean, the reception is friendly, and it's the cheapest place with air conditioning.
C. G.Room clean with own bathroom (toilet and shower). Good be a great place if it wasnt so noisy. You ear almost everything from the common area and as it is a young backpackers hostel, you ear some drunk people until late.
S.Stayed here for 5 nights, here's my opinion.
*Staffs are friendly to interact over the phone and in person, but there's no proper communication between staffs. So you'd be given some confirmation or information by one staff but totally miss on it coz the other staff wasn't communicated about it.
*Room and bed were clean and tidy, the existing room mates had their stuffs everywhere that made the room look messy.
*Free breakfast just milk, cereals, bread and spreads which will be available until the stocks lasts. So help yourself before it's late. Kitchen was not that clean but okay, same goes to common room (saw a rat), laundry room.
*Shower rooms were really good about this place (no locks for the blurred transparent door). So were the common bathrooms. It was decently maintained.
C. D.Very cheap and clean, but they need more space in the rooms and more toilets. The only toilet I could use was the one in my room which was shared between 8 people so when waking up you have to wait for others to finish in the shower before you can go to the loo! Also extremely squeaky bed frames which are loud everytime someone breathes
E. w.Beds nice. Rooms way too packed. Receptionist is so slow no wonder there a constant que for 4+ people all day. My 1st time back in year and this was great hostel i stayed for months but i wouldnt stay again. Cinema room has gone. Staff seem more interested in listening and changing music than assisting guests. Place has got lot worse.
K. K. S.If you are a back packer or in group of friends I strongly suggest this place. Very well organised and professional. Staff can speak English and they understand your concerns. They try all the possible ways to help you.
It is clean and kitchen is amazing. The seating arrangement in the open area on 3rd floor is quite friendly and you can go on and on enjoying with your friends.
The place is warm, clean and compared to many other hostels this is the place you should stay. If ur from China, India, US or Africa enjoy the lively place.
You can.play board games, ping pong etc.
The roof garden is amazing. You need to experience it. Even.if you go to any expensive hotel you will not get this any facilities.
P. E. M.A very big hostels for backpackers, it has 6 floors (ground, F1, 2, 3, 4 and roof), more or less 20 rooms each floor. The price is very cheap (22.50 each night). The staff is great and very friendly but a little slow. To check in I waited almost 1 hour, but the service was verry good. Rooms quite clean and bathroom inside, each floor has its kitchen (very big), many tables where to eat and a couple of ping-pong tables. Average age is about 25 years old. No alcohol allowed... After 10 p.m. kitchens and roof are closed.
It is very comfortable (5 min walks and you are in cbd).
I think I'm gonna come back if I'll return in Melbourne
L. C.3 stars is a bit generous, but 2 would've been harsh.
Rooms - bad ventilation so room smelt bad and stuffy, no fans or air con so it gets unbearably hot at night during summer months. Had some bad sleeps during my stay mainly because of this. Mattresses weren't great either. Not much room for bags either.
Kitchen - poorly equipped so always waiting for pots, pans, knives and forks to become available. It got messy quickly too. Kitchen also gets so hot it feels like you're in a sauna, sweating constantly. This includes the eating areas too.
Rooftop terrace - don't waste your time.
Toilets and showers - not bad but not great. Some showers don't work but the ones that do are okay.
WiFi - free WiFi works but is slow at times and I'd only available in a few spots in the hostel, not the bedrooms. Paid WiFi is really good. $5 a day, $10 for 3 days and $15 for 7 days.
Rooms are cheap. Bar was cheap. Washing machines are good and can be card operated. No free breakfast anymore. There are worse hostels out there, but there are many more that are better. Did the job for 5 days but I won't be coming back.
A. W.Great staff, incredibly comfortable beds with spacious rooms and welcoming common areas. Bathrooms are big and clean. The kitchen was massive so it was easy maneuvering around each other. Free breakfast was restocked opposed to first come, first serve. I plan on staying with discovery again.
K. W.I have stayed here a few times now, with school groups. The floor we stayed on this year had been newly refurbished. Biggest improvements were comfortable mattresses and rooms now have ensuites. The whole place seems to be going through can overhaul at the moment. Close to vic market and tram stop just around the corner. Cheap and good location.
C. W.Really friendly staff, thick warm quilts, a great included breakfast and great people to meet. The rooms really need to be monitored better though, each of the 3 rooms I stayed in when visiting here was littered with previously departed travellers trash and unwanted belongings.

K. B.there are fantastic dorms and there are okay dorms both for the same price, really depends on your luck. kitchen is useless due to a massive lack of hygiene and utensils. If you got your own utensils and are lucky enough to find a working stove top it's okay though.
A. M.Quite spacious. Large bathrooms. Lots of water wastage through numerous leaks not fixed. Relatively clean seeing as people can be filthy. Lockers in rooms which require own lock are small to medium size. Comfortable beds. No aircon in rooms but despite 40 degree weather- it didn't seem to need it. Cafe downstairs is disgusting- don't know how to make coffee, display food was rank. Cafe needs to work on not selling disgusting food which has been stored for so long and take a barista course. Free towel usage- no deposit, and get a fresh one whenever you want. Good inner city location. Note to DH: did not stay here under my listed name in review.
M. J.Big kitchens, rooms on floor 3 and 4 are really nice, every room has a nice bathroom, good location, cheap, quiet, nice staff.
Plastic cutlery, ugly rooftop, hard to meet people, reception is a mess.
C.Accessibility was fantastic and easy check in. Bathrooms, laundry, dining and lounge were clean and pleasant. Only complaint was that we visited during a very hot few days and the rooms were very hot with no apparent way of temperature control, but would happily stay here again!
F. S.Very affordable. Stayed in 6 bed dorm during Australia Open for around $26 per night. Has hot showers and enough toilet facilities.
The free breakfast wasn't the best as they had only 2 toasters for everyone, not the most organised breakfast.
Customer service was friendly, the bar in the basement is affordable and good for a few pints or jugs of beer/cider.
V. S.It was a really pleasant stay here, nice people and nice staff, not too expensive and the possibility to buy longer stays for even cheap prices , a big kitchen and plenty washing machines and driers. The WiFi is pretty bad that's why the 3 stars but apart from this all good. Dorms smell like dirty feet, as per any dorm, but comfy bed and beddings. They've got free stuff to do and tours and advertisemts for all the backpackers staying at this place. Vending machines all over, I'm not sure about a free breakfast and the checkout is unfortunately at 10am, pretty early.
A. M.Reception was great, lobby had a nice vibe to it. Bed was comfortable, bathrooms got the job done, good location. Only stayed for one night, but I would recommend it. My only complaint would be the free wifi was only from 10-4, but that's the only negative.
A. C.I do think it's getting better these days. Check in procress is a little bit slow, but I think it's the problem of the system, and you can tell that every staff is workiing on their best way. I was quite horrified by the picture posted before, however, the room is small but clean. I reckon the backpackers themselves and cleaning system are to blame for the fussy situation. I wish this hotel would getting better. And thank you for all the help.
K. K.Location is perfect right in the middle of the city with everything close by. Rooms are recently renovated and have aircon and ensuite. Staff are the friendliest bunch. There are not many amenities right now (no bar, cafe or much anything else) due to ongoing renovations which the staff tell me are expected to be done by March-April 2019 when they would have a cafe a bar and such. The rooftop is pretty cool place to hang out/socialise with other guests though. Would definitely recommend

I booked this because of that, and didn't sleep until 3am because of people deciding to party in the room instead of in the common room, or perhaps in a pub?! ok cleanliness and security, bring your own lock. nice staff, the "included breakfast" is toast. F. T.At the moment there's a lot of construction going on in the building as it's getting renovated. The location is perfect at Queen Victoria market close to tram and Melbourne central station. It's one of the cheapest hostels in Melbourne and got the kindest staff I experienced in a hostel in Australia. The 6 person rooms are to small ask for a 8 or 10. Every room got own bathroom, every level got own kitchen and the rooftop is gonna be sick when it's finished (about December 2018). Perfect for the poor backpacker. Lifts take forever tho
A. F.Stayed there for a few nights for a school excursion/camp kind of thing. And I have to admit, it was a lot better than what I was expecting. Most of the rooms were maintained fairly well. The beds were comfy and the inclusion of lockers in each of the rooms was a nice little touch that I really appreciated. I think that some rooms certainly needed ceiling fans (especially ones that are designed for larger groups of people) as the more people there were in a room, the hotter it got.
On the first floor, there was quite a cool little recreation area, with a pool table, foosball, comfy couches and even a drinks dispenser. That served as a nice spot to relax and talk to others.
If you're thinking of going to Melbourne with a large group of friends and don't want to dish out ridiculous amounts of money, and you'll be on the move most of the time, this is the spot for you.
M.Cleanliness is alright but they have to many stupid rules that are not mention in the booking. like some other reviewers are saying, caring about the money not the customer services. Some powers points in the rooms don't even work. Discount for weekly group accommodations are not possible, that's is so nonsense.
M. M.Bathroom was clean, enough space in the room. The room had lockers. Good location in tram free zone, close to supermarkets.
Free wifi only between 10am to 4 pm. The kitchen was dirty, not enought space in fridges. There was always queue at the reception.
S. D.The hostel is alright, clean sheets nice receptionist-staff. But these 5 stars are really for Tony, the man who gives massages at Discovery Hostel. That man gives a fantastic holistic massage for a good backpacker friendly price. He has heaps of years of experience and knows exactly what he's doing. I went to him twice in the time I stayed there, and recommended him to a friend of mine. Thumbs up for Tony.
K. O.Discovery Melbourne is a nice place to stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Not a fancy place but the rooms are clean and tidy. Wifi is also available for a low cost. Cheap but great service. Its a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a decent and low cost place to stay.
M. S.This hostel is an okay choice for budget travelers. I am going to give it 3 1/2 stars (3 for overall quality and 4 for value considering the price of the hostel is very good and customer service at front desk is good). The hostel is in a good location near Victoria Market and close to many shops, restaurants and a free train in the free tram zone in Melbourne-I never spent any money on transportation in my entire time here touring the city and catching my train to Sydney from the main train terminal in Sydney. The bed was very comfortable, they have very good lockers for each bed, large kitchens and the hostel is a few minute walk from a discount grocery store called Aldi on the same street and they have a nice rooftop patio on the top of the building.
Now the negative points of the hostel- the dorm rooms are very cramped, at times it was very loud, they limit the amount of data on the free wi-fi the hostel provides, I saw no working tv's in the hostel when I was there and there seemed to be a lack of social activities in the hostel (they did have a free walking tour each day) and they charge 10$ if you lose your key card to replace it (make sure you hold onto it). Overall, considering the price was very good, the bed was very comfortable and the customer service was good, I would say this is decent budget option if you are just looking for a cheap place to sleep in a good location in Melbourne.
C. R.Have stayed for 3 nights with a group of 4 other blokes. This hotel ideal for backpackers and those who are on a low budget. The establishment served its purpose well and is a four star hotel in terms of low buddget hotels. Would not recommend for familys would for a group of mates.

v. y.This place offers rooftop in between the tall buildings of CBD for anyone who is interested in conducting social events. There are events such as free yoga, zumba, hip hop. You can visit the FB page called JetSport if you want to conduct any events.
The free hip hop session, usually saturday's is a good event which i attended here.
T. M.The cheapest hostel in town - but the quality isn't bad at all! Only their Internet gets cut too often, which is annoying.

For those who want to visit Melbourne’s city centre, this is a cheap and convenient location, suitable for solo travelers who need to save money. It is in the free zone of the tram and is super close to the Victoria Market. The room facilities are clean and simple, and the beds are good. Sleeping, there is a communal kitchen for cooking, but I didn’t use it so I can’t comment.
Disadvantages are the dragons and snakes, the room has no windows and there is a dampness in the room, the luggage room is simple and exaggerated, because there are too many people, there are long queues in front of the counter, but the space is super small and the reception desk is very crowded.

缺點是龍蛇雜處、房間沒窗戶有一股濕氣悶在裡面、行李房簡陋得誇張、因為人太多櫃台前常大排長龍，但空間又超小，接待處很擁擠。

Freundliche Mitarbeiter und saubere Betten und Badezimmer. Leider sind es die rücksichtslosen Gäste die eine Sauerei in Küche und Essenssaal hinterlassen. Alle schlechten Reviews vorher sind für mich unbegründet da das Hostel einen neuwertigen, sanierten Eindruck macht. Die Küche könnte jedoch mehr bestückt sein mit Gewürzen und Öl zum Kochen, das hat gefehlt. Alles andere gut für ein paar Nächte

10-Bett-Zimmer mit bequemen Betten. Jedes Zimmer hat sein eigenes Bad, das nicht ganz sauber war. Es ist teilweise nervig, denn wenn jemand im Bad ist muss man warten, bis man selber reinkommt. Das ganze mit 10 Personen kann sich ganz schön ziehen. Wenig Platz für den Backpack und die persönlichen Sachen, keine Spinds. Jedes Bett hat seine eigene Steckdose und einen USB-Ladeport. Das wlan ist oaky. Die Küche ist auch halbwegs sauber. Unser Zimmer war von den Leuten her ziemlich ruhig, weshalb es angenehm war. Auch wenn manche Leute auf dem Gang ziemlich laut waren, was einen vom schlafen abhält. Es kommt also ganz auf die Leute an, die mit im Zimmer sind und wie umsichtig sie sind.

Das Discovery Hostel ist sehr gut mitten im CBD gelegen. Die Zimmer sind sauber und reichen für ein paar Nächte völlig aus. Die Betten sind bequem und bezogen und auf dem Flur sind große Gemeinschaftsbäder, die meistens sehr sauber und gepflegt sind. Die Küche ist groß und geräumig, bietet viele Utensilien und auch Besteck und Geschirr sind vorhanden. Die Preise sind relativ hoch, wobei das Discovery im Vergleich trotzdem zu den billigen Hostels zählt.

Lo mejor de mi experiencia en Melbourne. Antes de llegar estaba un poco asustado por las malas reseñas que tenia el hostel en internet. Mi punto de vista es que si eres un backpacker de los de verdad, no te importará que la cocina esté sucia y que tengas que hacer cola en recepción. Y valorarás muchísimo la vida en el hostel! Tiene amplios espacios comunes donde socializar con los demás. La gente es súper simpática. Recuerdo que la primera noche llegué a la habitación y unas horas más tarde estaba ya saliendo de fiesta con los compañeros de habitación. Antes de descubrir Discovery fui a diferentes hostels en Melbourne, y sin duda Discovery es el mejor. Además, barato!
Pongo un 10 al hostel más autentico y con más vida de la ciudad!
