Better book directly to save a bit. Its decent but the site i booked in is misleading. I spent more than I expected just to get the private room but glad that the reception is really easy to talk to and very helpful so i still give a 4 star despite being disappointed.

Best YHA I've Stayed in Australia! Friendly and helpful staff. Awesome people I stayed with in June 2020, (good atmosphere, has a bar with good music playing and the design/setting was cool such as the artwork and lights). Shout out to Taz, Matty, Patrick, Justin, Ash, Jelena, Jeff, and the others. Can't wait to stay here again in the future when covid is all over.

Friendly staff, and easy to reach location :) The only problem was the metro just next to it, so the sound quite loud when night time. In general, the public area is big enough, kitchen, living room , and some interested board, too !! Good try for stay in Melbourne city for a night !

Do not stay here if you want to have some decent sleep, surroundings are noisy and there is construction site right next to the hostel and they start banging all over the place early in the morning. They have lockers that are not operated by YHA, cost me around 7 bucks to rent one for a few hours. Room was clean, kitchen was just ok, location is good. Value for money is the reason why the 3 stars

Would be 5 stars but the rooms are pretty tired and need to be redone but apart from that the rest of the hostel was clean and tidy. Kitchen was big and we never had a problem with finding space to cook. Have to pay for lockers to stare bags before we checked in as we arrived a couple hours too early but it wasn’t very expensive

Spent a night here and was pleasantly surprised with the quality, cleanliness and how safe I felt as I'd never been to a hostel before and my only real exposure to hostels had been horror movies. The room was clean and sheets were fresh; the bed was very comfortable too. All of the staff I encountered during my stay were super friendly and respectful too. I'd totally recommend YHA to anyone.

Great little place with free breakfast available. The room was quite small but not too small, and there was no air conditioning so the room got quite hot on the 2 hot nights we stayed there. There was minimal noise after about 8pm. Overall a great place to stay in melbourne for a really good price.

Great location and would definitely go back to stay again. The place is generally clean and well maintained. The location is also great as it's close to tram stations and the Southern Cross station. The staff are friendly and are willing to offer help except two staff members who we personally found very rude and approached their job too seriously. Other than that, everyone staying at the place at the time were friendly and social and was a great place to meet people.

Great location (next to the tram and major bus lines). Price is very hard to beat (no breakfast but location is close to cheap food and good transportation). They also have a huge kitchen with several refrigerators! Staff is knowledgeable about tours (what's the best value and what to avoid). They're super friendly too :)

YHA never disappoints me, and Melbourne Central is no different. The staff are friendly and the rooms and bathroom are clean. The rooms are all super secure, not only needing a pass to get into your room, but into the floor you're staying on. My friend and I asked for a good recommendation of a good bar to go, and their suggestion was exactly what we wanted. I would stay here again.

Great little hostel. Just be aware that to be able to share a dorm room you have to be 17 or else you need a private room. Partly due to having a bar on the premises. Got caught out when I had to send my daughter ahead of me when I had to be elsewhere because I used a well-known accommodation website to book a bed for her and the website lacked any checks that would have stopped the booking. Very awkward for the hostel and me especially over a weekend where accommodation was already very scarce. The hostel staff were very apologetic and helpful, and did their best to help sort things out.

1.) Staffs are very nice. Definitely not a racist. Most Asians consider this when they visit a foreign country. 2.) Their premium room is so lovely. It is situated on a roof deck. And there are only two premium rooms! I was lucky to wake up alone in the roofdeck waiting for sunrise! 3.) The hostel design is very creative. They have this wonderful murals in some area of the hostel. 4.) Plus, my room has a nespresso coffee maker and I have unlimited coffee and tea! I would definitely recommend YHA. :)

Best hostel in Melbourne! Clean, comfy beds, friendly & helpful staff, great bathrooms, big kitchen, tv room, bar, rooftop balcony. Quiet in the bedrooms and social downstairs, so you get the best of both worlds depending on your mood.

Great hostel, wonderful staff, very good facilities and activities, very good location, and wonderful yoga sessions :-)! First, I booked for 3 nights as I thought I might try out another hostel in another neighbourhood as well (- and am always a bit careful before booking for too long). Had already heard that the Melbourne Central YHA is very good, but it was even so much better than I had expected and exactly the right place for me. So, I extended my stay for another week. I felt at home so much from the very beginning. The hostel manager and the staff are so wonderful and great, always helping with good advice or anything needed, as well if it is a chat or a smile! :-) You really feel that they care about the place, people, and as well the environmental impact of backpackers and hostels which I find very important as well when choosing a hostel as you would like to reduce your environmental impact on the places and nature you are enjoying! As well in this regard as in any other, they are very open for any suggestions and try to fix things directly if needed. Another important thing which made me stay are the wonderful yoga classes which Serguei offered in the morning and afternoon combining yoga exercise with insights into philosophy, breathing and meditation! Especially when you are travelling, it is so great and important if you have such an opportunity and support to calm down, do something good for your body and mind and get some life lessons! :-) The kitchen is clean and offers a lot of space to prepare your meals and there are a lot of nice tables and spaces (including a nice cafe/bar) in the community areas to sit, enjoy your meals, talk to people, relax a bit... As well, I feel like other travellers in YHAs are usually or mostly nice people, caring more for how they leave a place ;-), and as well nice people to have a chat with. There is as well a very nice rooftop area (where the yoga sessions are as well), places to take or leave free clothes, food or books.... In short you will find everything you need in this hostel! :-) So, thanks again so much to the wonderful Melbourne Central YHA team for making me feel so well and so much at home that it was hard to leave in the end! :-)

Rooms were clean and tidy, bathrooms weren't as clean this trip as other times Ive visited. Staff were more than helpful with good recommendations to restaurants, transport options and attractions. Pent house rooms are bigger with fridge cupboard and bathroom in room. Unfortunately from a non smoker perspective smoking is permitted on the rooftop so smoke is smelt inside and window's can't be opened because of smoke.

Nice staff and good location. I met some nice guys in that backpackers. Really good choice staying here. But the room key card is not good. If you put it with phone, it is damaged and not work. Except that, it is quite nice place to stay.

Worst YHA I stayed in so far. Was expecting their standards, but you just pay the high price for the location and low standards like really slow free wifi, beds are worn out like a 150 kg person slept in it. Also according to security they don’t have chargers in their lockers. So stay in any other hotel for less and get the same experience. After complaining they just say sorry and are not customer friendly according to their cancelling policies giving me the opportunity to change the hostel

Best hostel I've been in Melbourne so far! Great chilled out lounging area. Open plan kitchen, super clean, lots of new looking bowls/cutlery etc. Happy, helpful staff. Rooms are great, fresh and new. Fan in the rooms, but rooms never got too hot. Bunks didn't squeak and easy storage under beds. Quiet even though close to road. Not too many people, so there's always a chair to sit and chill in, or cook in the kitchen or shower. Unlimited, ok-speed wifi on ground floor. Breakfast available to buy, but near shops, so can get your own easily. Couldn't fault it the place. Worth the extra $4/night to other city hostels.

After living and working at this hostel as a party organizer, I can safely say that this is one of the cleanest hostels and private out of many in Melbourne. Although the building is narrow, its got a great atmosphere!

This place is quiet convenient for travellers since it's near Southern Cross station where country link trains and shuttle buses from airport arrive. Moreover, just a few more steps is Yarra river, such a beautiful scene. I stayed in a 6 share female room. Room and bathroom were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. However, it's rather small and lack of entertainment compared to Sydney Central YHA and Sydney Railway YHA.

Central YHA has a friendly, casual and relaxed atmosphere. It is both clean and comfortable and caters to family's and individuals whether from overseas or local. Central is incredibly well situated within the free tram area, being able to walk to crown, Flinders or Spencer St station. I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Clean Separate male/female showers. Good security with the swipe card entry. Friendly staff. Bed was okay but its a bed in a hostel Showers were hot / warm Theres a personal light for bed but no power outlet. However Theres power outlets throughout the room. So central to Southern cross station for skybus and tram services just outside it. Food places around the hostel Not too loud of an area of city. Will return for sure.

Maybe I missed the memo but the youth in youth hostel Australia seems to be outdated. Most people here are in their 50's-60's, making it feel more like a care home than anything. The facilities are good though. Just don't come here if you want to meet people your own age

YHA provides cheap accommodation for people that don't mind staying in a hostel, beds are cleaned once checkout occurs. Rooms depend on price paid however 8 person bed dorms are norm and people are generally friendly. The hostels "premium" wireless service caps at 3 mbit/s which should suffice for general browsing. However I would recommend paying extra for prepaid 4G services.

I've stayed at a few YHA hostles around Australia and this one is exactly what you would expect from the YHA. Its in a good spot near to the southern cross station and the tram stop or if you prefer to walk its not that far into the CBD. Theres a 24 hour front desk with a small cafe / bar to the side, which make a pretty decent cup of tea and toastie. The communal kitchen is clean and well maintained although the equipment is getting a bit old and worn but it serves its purpose. The TV room and common areas are quite good and make a good place to meet other backpackers with a rooftop area for other social events like yoga or bbqs. I stayed in one of the 3 bed mixed rooms which was not to bad with lockers for each person and power outlets in the room for charging phones or other tech. However the beds and pillows were a bit uncomfortable, so they are fine if your staying a week or less but if you were looking at long term you might want to look at buying your own. All in all a good hostle in a good location and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

The number one reason to stay at the YHA is the location. It's centrally located with a tram out front and close to southern Cross station. The second is the friendly staff and adequate resources. I stayed in a six share for a night and it perfectly suited my needs. Highly recommend this place.

I stayed there for three days on a wintery part of the year. Granted Melbourne is dreary and cloudy that part of the year I stayed with the hostel. The weather is more than compensated with some things that make Melbourne truly special: the blend of people that make Melbourne happening. Great recommendation to food, events and great company. Great location to wherever that matters in Melbourne, in the free tram zone and within walking distance to Spencer Street - actually Southern Cross - Station and trams. Oh, tours are nearby too, so penguins and Twelve Apostles here I come! If the bathrooms are not that crowded and the rooms not that stale, I will be glad to stay a little longer.

Fairly stock-standard hostel accommodation. Everything is as expected, the only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is because of the inconsistency of the hot water in the shower. Everything else, from room and locker size to providing a good amount of bedding is acceptable.

The advantage is it's awesome location. Just 15 minutes walk from the skybus terminal which is great if you have an early morning flight. In addition, there is a tram stop right outside the hostel. The hostel was also relatively well equipped and had friendly staff. The disadvantage is that the rooms are not designed to have a powerpoint next to each bunk bed which was a surprise because many hostel now provide this feature. In addition the common room is a bit small so if you are not early then you won't have room to sit and eat your dinner. Finally someone's the hot water runs out leaving you with a cold shower 🙄
