D.Excellent location, standard YHA accommodation, though in need of some refurbishment/updating as things like bathrooms could use a bit of work, and cleaning standards seem to have slipped since I last stayed 2 years ago. Only the one double powerpoint per room with no USB socket, so it pays to bring a powerboard. Kitchen larger than Central though (and location much quieter), lounge areas more spacious, also great rooftop chill pad. Still better than most commercial hostels overall.

T. C.It was a really good stay. Nice staff and very helpful. Good food facilities and a guest kitchen. Good rooftop with an great view of the city. And it's also quiet so that's a big bonus. Only downside is that the power points in the dorm rooms are not next to the bunk beds so that if you want to charge your phone you can't have an alarm on because you'd have to get out of bet to turn it off. Another inconvenience is that the cupboard aren't supplied with there own locks but the reception does sell locks though. All in all a good place and if you want somewhere close to the city and at a cheap rate this is the place for you
L. S.One of the best hostels I have stayed at. Stayed for about a week, good distance from the market and free tram so it's easy to get around. The kitchen can use some cleaning because of the travellers but all in all very clean otherwise and really friendly staff! Great place to meet people and have a good time. My partner and I had to switch to Nomads mid week stay because I didn't book anymore nights and Metro was sold out for the night and went back immediately after.
T. B.Really appreciate the comfort and the clean state of the hostel but they DEFINITELY have to do something about their room management! In 5 weeks time I've spent in there, by extending more than in time my weeks, I had to be changed room 7 to 8 times so they can fill the hostel in for groups?! How do you do when you're actually a pretty regular and sure customer and got a job? Review your priority!
A.A bit dated. Bathrooms not in the best condition. But $21 is cheap, everything was clean, the roof top is great and the staff was nice.
R. P.Great staff, very clean and comfortable hostel with events every day of the week and free bbq Fridays and Sundays! Having the Queen Victoria Market a 7 minute walk away is extremely helpful, especially for backpackers on a budget. The hostel is located in a really nice, safe area as well.

You can park in front of the hostel (paying or trying your luck) or inside (covered) for 12aud a day.
I’m not sure about the rate because i used a 20 nights YHA ePack (which makes 24 aud a night, pretty good for the big cities).
Good location to me, not right in the center but close enough to just walk there

The rooftop offers a pretty good view of the downtown.

The only negative point remains the fact that YHA are usually too big in my opinion. It’s hard to feel at home, don’t meet that many people in the end, and could be noisy sometimes (it’s true for any big hostel).
But overall is good memory 😉
L.Clean place, comfortable beds, huge and well-equipped kitchen and a lovely view from the rooftop. The only inconvenience were walls, which actually didn't separate from the sounds of neighbours. Still, I recommend!
L. “. r.Friendly staff and good kitchen equipment. Kitchen was rather clean with most people cleaning up after themselves during my visit. Fridges available and routinely cleaned. Stayed in the private room with a bathroom. Towels and linen were included for this room type without charge.
U. H.Mediocre hostel. 8 bed dorm rooms are cramped.
The bunkbeds squeak easily. Sockets needed around the room and inside the lockers. There is very poor airflow throughout the building, so rooms and corridors get very stuffy and hot. The men's bathrooms aren't always in the cleanest state, and tended to smell. Lots of hooks on cubicle doors are missing or broken. Water pools around the dressing areas in the shower cubicles. The lift is dodgy af and needs upgrading.
However, the place is very clean (with the exception of the toilets). The kitchen is adequate. The premium WiFi does the job. The common areas are very nice. Staff are friendly.
T. N.Great place: clean, convinient, cheap and simple. I can book online just one hour before arrival time. Communication is clear and efficient. We share a room of 4 , for less than 100 AUD. The parking place is available at the underground of the building. The Hotel Chain always locates close to the center, so easy to find and quick access to the center.
P. K.Nice place and the location is fine. Showers are a bit dodgy - can't get dressed in the tiny, usually wet space allowed. New kitchen going in soon and it needs it. But the staff are friendly and helpful.

The rooms are small and sometimes pretty cold. They have a very nice rooftop with wifi access. Breakfast is minimal and the coffe quite bad. They have lockers in the rooms if you bring your own padlock. Oh and the TVroom is quite nice.
T. M.Nice and clean hostel. Bed was big and comfortable. Toilets and showers were much cleaner comparing to the other hostel I stayed in CBD. It is bit far from CBD. Quite a few restaurants and super markets are around just 5-10 minutes of walking distance. Sky bus stop is 1 minute walk and Queen Victoria Market is about 5 minuets walk.
S. S.Pretty poor performance compared to other YHA hostels. Cleanliness is average throughout the facilities, our blanket was pretty dirty, the rooms don't have aircon (which would be a plus because they are pretty small, too) and the atmosphere doesn't really get to a backpacker feeling. Plus one star for pretty friendly staff, plus one for location and availability of parking.
J.Clean hostel, quiet at night. Kitchen with all the needed facilities and utensils with adequate fridge space, laundry, parking garage with secure bicycle storage. Rooftop terrace is pretty amazing with views and BBQ. Free WiFi however has spotty connection and is slow. I imagine it is hot in the summer as there does not seem to be aircon. Friendly staff and good value.
M. E.I stayed in this hostel only for a couple of nights and is what you expect for a YHA hostel. The guys on the front desk were friendly and helpful and the hostle was clean however the breeze block walls do give the rooms something of a prison feel to them. The common area is quite big with most of the space filled with dining tables and a small open TV area to the side with a pool table. There aren't many power outlets though so you might find yourself competing with others for them.
I stayed in one of the 4 bed rooms with locker space for each bed. There is a power outlet in the room for common use and the bathroom and toilet facilities are shared for each floor although I found there was more privacy here than in some of the other hostles.
The location is close to the Queen Victoria Market and there are plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants around, but if you wanted to walk to the southern Cross station your looking at a 20 - 30 min hike.
All in all its not a bad hostle, I wouldn't say it was my favorite but not the worst either by a long way.

I was able to cycle all of my last day and store my luggage in lockers and have a shower after check out and before my 8pm flight. So great! A. L.I appreciate how clean the hostel was, but it definitely lacks any sort of a backpackers atmosphere. The events aren't well-run. There are many groups of high school children that stayed here while I was there and it was hard to find people of common age and interest. I moved over to Habitat HQ and that was a great hostel :)

B. K.Meh, so so. Fairly clean, affordable. Way more quiet than CBD choices.
I didn't find it particularly clean or dirty, but the facilities show their age. It's definitely a "basic" quality big hostel. The YHA Central for example is modern and most people would prefer it over this location.
Fantastic rooftop at this location though (that is worth a whole extra star). They offer yoga sometimes, wine+cheese+movie nite other times.
No discount for HI/YHA members.
K. N.Good facilities, although you do still get some unusual types within the premises. Have stayed for over a a month now, and adventures aplenty with 6am fire alarms, room mates with "CNC Grinders" (think "herbal"), and other weird events... if this fits what you are looking for then you might not mind, but just be aware of what goes on in places like these.
I. G.Was comfortable but needs some Reno's. About trashy. Stayed at many YHAs but this one much older inside. Worth the price but no air con etc. Roof top is amazing as per all YHAs I've been. Doesn't have a pool like Sydney one, but lots of great people staying there and helpful staff. Over all if you don't mind things about older this is a good option

there is free WiFi in the common area but if you want it in your room you're going to have to shell out $5 for a day, $10 for three or $15 for a week.
rooms are pretty small, but cleaned every day and there are regular hostel events!

There's lockable lockers in the room, and each bed has a light.
Unfortunately the timer in the toilet area is quite agressive, I showered in the dark every single time I showered. - you cannot grt the lights on again without exiting the shower stall, as the sensor is in the common area, which means you'll have to get out of the wet slibery stall, in the dark, to get the lights on.
The view from the roof-top terrace is really great, especially at sunset
K. R.Very good hostel even if a bit far from the CBD. The big common area allows you to meet people very easily in a very friendly atmosphere. The rooftop is very nice to enjoy a nice bbq and a good view of the city, especially in the summer. It is very clean and events are organized almost every day.

K. M.All the staff are super friendly and helpful apart from 1 guy, the free internet is good, the rooms are pretty standard, there is a rooftop garden which has a lovely view.
There isn't much of an atmosphere in the communal areas which isn't the hostels fault, but I've heard from people who have stayed for a few weeks it's always like that apart from the odd night, the kitchen is cleaned regularly, the lounge area is huge and very close Queen Victoria market.
Toilets and showers have a ridiculous timer for the lights and its by the door, so you would have to come out of the cubicle and wave ur hand and to turn them on, the toilets are small, to open the door you would have to press yourself against the wall.
Overall I wouldn't mind going back not a totally bad place
B.Minuses: Sheets stained, no pillows allowed to be brought in, shower cubicles ridiculously small, rude and noisy school group, noisy doors shutting at night. Positives: Good location, cheap, friendly staff, pool table, clean rooms (apart from the stains...) breakfast option. Just don't forget your card for the toilets/showers!
J. B.YHA metro is a gem in a city with many dodgy hostels to book a room in. The location is decent - it's a bit outside the CBD so it's nice, calm, and quiet, but it's close enough that everything in the CBD is a tram ride or a short walk away. The staff here are great as well, they're very willing to point you in the right direction as far as great bars, bands, events, etc. Likewise, the staff really makes sure that there's something for you to do every day. There are free BBQs on the weekend, there's a movie night, free comedy, YHA metro vs YHA central soccer games, just to name a few.
The rooms themselves are good. Nothing spectacular, but it's a hostel, not a 5 star hotel. Only complaint really is the bathrooms, but the room keys unlock all the bathrooms on the various floors so it's not a huge deal.
Overall I've been very happy with my stay at the YHA metro, and highly recommend it over any other hostel in the area

K. L.We were a party of 7 ladies in town for the Dominion March. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean as was the bed and linen. It was very reasonably priced and only a short 15 minute walk to the CBD. I can highly recommend the YHA Melbourne Metro
k.In general fine hostel. However reception should learn one of hospitalitys key characteristics which is smiling and learn how to host properly. Also getting the lift fixed wouldn't be too bad!
A. Z.A highly affordable place to stay for a few nights at Melbourne. On the ground floor there is the cafe and eating areas as well as reception, whilst accommodation is spread out over levels 1, 2 and 3. at the very top is the rooftop lounge with good views of the surrounding Melbourne area. Rooms come with bed, towels and bed sheets as well as a pillow.
P. C.Place was clean, staff was friendly and helpful. The location was out of city centre but easily accessible by free tram, so its quiet at night. It's real close to Queen Victoria Market. Very convenient.
T. B.Dorm room needed some maintenance, elevators stopped working several times, kitchen is crowded, and cluttered with items and not as clean as other YHA hostels I've stayed in recently. Staff weren't as welcoming either. And not enough laundry appliances or space for demand.

S. K. P. S.Nice hostel but had 90% Germans, who planned to stay in Melbourne for longer duration. Good facilities, nice kitchen and good common space to interact with fellow travelers.
Downside is the location: If you are planning a short stay in Melbourne, do take the other YHA hostel near the Yarra river. It takes a lot of energy/time to go from this hostel to the city center.

M.I have stayed there a few times over the last 8 years. It has always been clean and tidy. Melbourne CBD is only 15 minutes walk away or the closest tram stop is only 3 minutes walk away. Will definitely stay there again. Also Skybus does drop off and pick up from the hostel.

T. N.Probably the cleanest and quietest hostel in Melbourne. Definitely the best choice for older people who may not want the party atmosphere that hostels are known for.
However, there isn't much atmosphere and it seems difficult to meet new people here. So it might not be what you want if you're a young traveler.
The central yha is nicer and more catered to young people fyi. Although it is also more expensive.
I also have been to another hostel nearby and it was much dirtier and run down while being the same price. I would recommend the metro to anyone.
J. M.This hostel is clean and everything works there. It's situated really nice close to the Vitoria market. But you can also reach the CBD by foot in 10-15 minutes. The aura could be more familiar but it's a huge hostel so that's normal.
Visiting Melbourne again we would always go there. (And actually we already did that.)
The only thing that annoyed us was that there are a lot of germans there. Consequently sometimes you heard more german than english beeing in the kitchen.
The wifi price is ok. You get free wifi in the lounge. It doesn't work very good but it's what you expect from free wifi. For 15$ you get the premium access for one week which works better. (You could also take it for less days.)
If anything doens't work the staff at reception will always help you!
T. C.Well located in North Melbourne. The staff is very friendly and I got to meet a lot of interesting peoples. The rooms are clean so is the kitchen.

Le camere sono da 4 con due letti a castello, grandi quanto basta per farci stare le proprie cose. I Bagni in comune sono ben strutturati con buoni servizi e docce.

Ich habe dieses Hostel gebucht, da ich in Auckland gute Erfahrungen gemacht habe. Leider wurde ich sehr enttäuscht - es war das lauteste Hostel in dem ich je war. Alles ist sehr hellhörig und auch nachts gab es von Gästen Lärm vorm Eingang. Alles in allem eher heruntergekommen, die Betten quietschen und wirken instabil. Die Kühlschränke und Vorratsregale waren immer sehr voll.
Jedoch sehr nette MitarbeiterInnen. Zimmer waren sauber.
