M. W.Good hostel experience. Free pancakes in the morning were a huge bonus. Room was clean and the heater in the room was very useful. They do different events nightly which is very fun. The only complaint was the cleanliness of the kitchen however, they cant really control that due to all of the guests using it and not cleaning up after themselves. Would definitely recommend staying here!!

Maybe one more laundry machine and a bit more kitchen stuff would be amazing but except of that i can only recommend this hostel and i will definitely stay there again on my next stay Melbourne!
E. H.The hostel was OK... the staff were really friendly and they had lots of facilities I could make use of and were always keen to help. The kitchen was really busy and not a lot of room to move around when everyone was in there trying to make dinner. I left the hostel at 8am and was told there's be pancakes for breakfast, but there was none to be seen, so I didn't get any breakfast. The room was clean and bed was comfy, but the shower was a bit grubby and bathroom was really tiny, so it was hard to get dry without getting my clothes wet.
Good wifi, excellent location in St. Kilda and fine for one night, but a bit too rowdy for me in the common areas... TV on but no one watching it and lots of noisy blokes. It was as expected though and the noise was far from my room, so I slept really well!
C. J.Great hostel! The rooms, common area, kitchen and bathes are great. The location is great if you want to explore more of Melbourne, than just the center. Though, it seems like the booking systems might have some flaws, the staff seems to handle it okay. And the free pancakes every morning are wonderful!
J. C.I like the common area the most as it provided a very comfort zone and some entertainment there. The kitchen was clean and they provide pancakes for breakfast every morning. However, I woke up too late that I had passed the serving time (before 10am). People who were staying there were nice. The room I chose was a double bed room which has all the basic furniture. The room was a bit shabby but still acceptable.
J. E.Confortable hostel. Very nice staff. We were there for three nights, it's well located in saint Kilda and it's easy to find. The kitchen was a bit old but furnished. The toilets were nice as well as the room (private for 2 people). The free breakfast was delightful (pancakes).

S. B.Decent location, beach isn't far and you could walk to downtown if you wanted to. some pretty good restaurants are near. You'll want to go to them because the kitchen is poor. The room I was in was okay, it opens directly to the smoking pit, so the room smelt of tobacco constantly. There are lots of bathrooms which is uncommon for hostels. Staff is very friendly.
P. S.The reception staff, a young lady named Emma, was very pleasant and helpful in every way.

I did not specifically use the kitchen, but it looked to be neat and clean also.
I went to sleep early and did not awaken until my alarm went off, so there must not have been much ambient noise from other guests.
The location, adjacent to a tram stop with frequent trams to and from the city, was very convenient for me.

N. C.Knowing this was an older hostel, I was pleasantly surprised to find this hostel to be so accommodating! The Staff are awesome, happy to help with directions and local knowledge. Always something happening in the common area with games and movies almost every night!
We had a heater supplied for us in the room, which was a wonderful addition to the cozy blankets.
Short walk to almost everything! (20 minutes max) Chapel st for bars, St Kilda docks and beach front, Luna Park, and Acland street for more bars and dining than you can poke a stick at! They also have a great deal for food with a local pub who make cheap and generous meals for those on a budget.
Massive kitchen and social area for those who want to stay in for the night as well.
Will definitely be back for another stay! Thanks again, and keep up the good work team!
C. C.Good price/stay value. Was quite hot in the room and had a fan, no airco. Felt beds where squeezed in the rooms for maximum occupancy. Good for working hostels, not for a urban hostel. Common areas where nice and free brekkie in the morning made my days. Location is good and staff is really helpful. Bathrooms could use an update and good rinse.

M.Not the nicest hostel I’ve stayed in. Kitchen is way too small for such a big hostel, with not a lot of pans and you smell like food after a minute you’re inside. Rooms were big which was nice though. Also many people don’t clean up their own mess in the kitchen which is quite annoying.
J. B.Despite being in our fifties we felt right at home. The staff were lovely and we had everything we needed for our stay to be enjoyable. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms clean and tidy.
The Ritz is very handy to the trams and there is a lovely coffee shop just below.

N. M.The internet cafe is actually a room with one computer, the kitchen close at 10pm and wasn't really clean and the free wifi is limited (500 mo per day) if you want more you have to pay. Other than that everyone who is working there is really nice and helpful, lots of tips for backpackers.

It's nice placed in St. Kilda not so far to tram stations and to the beach and the nice St. Kilda pier.
To the main city it's an 1 hour walk or 15-20min going with tram.
There is a kitchen (sometimes overcrowded), where you can cook own meals. There is a fridge with little space for everybody.
For breakfast you can make pancakes with jam by your own for free. But no breads or else.
You have also free rice and noodles for meals.
Ok, after several days you might like to see else then pancakes or noodles 😉.
Inside you got a TV with channels to choose from and a billiard/pool table for coins.
All in all the toilets and showers are just enough.
Them have good working free WiFi.
My 2 bedroom was ok.
The staff was helpful.
Sometimes them organize games or else at evening.
The nature of the building/grounds made it very noisy. The doors and steps make disturbing sounds. Of course as a hostel there are always more or less noisy people.
If you are a real backpacker (whole day on tour), you will still get your sleep...

T. T.This is probably one of the best hostels that I have stayed at in Australia. It is small enough to have a feel of community, and the rooms, oven the 10 bed dorms, are comfortable. The larger rooms are en suite, which is nice, plus ample other facilities. There is free pancakes in the morning, free wine and cheese on Wednesday and free rice and pasta in the kitchen to make.
The location is slightly out of the center of thing, but close to the beach. My one complaint, and why The Ritz lost a star, is that there is no parking nearly. I am reduced to parking in another neighborhood a 15 min walk away over two major roads, and I still am violating the parking signs.
Definitely work the cost, I would stay here again.

L.One night in this hostel, the person at the reception is really on top, very friendly, unfortunately, the springs of the bed were right for us and the person in the room who thought he was alone came back at 1 am with a nobody outside the hotel in the room! Fortunately we formed two in the bed a place. This person spent the night in one of our two beds! For those who work before ten o'clock you have to go down to smoke and the same after 11 p.m. ... Otherwise clean sheets, bathroom and toilet also.
B. C.Perfect stay at the ritz. It s a small hostel with a good atmosphere.
The location is perfect. really close to the public transports to go to the city center. 5minutes walking to the beach and to the bus stop to go to the airport.
The hostel is clean and the staff is so friendly and helpful.

This hostel is one of the better hostels in St Kilda. Good locations. Nothing is immediately available, but still good. A small Woolworths, clubs pubs and shops are 4 minutes walk down the road. Plus it's next to a tram stop.
With only a small, almost missable door on the street front, one you go upstairs the magic happens!
Pros
The place is very clean.
Wooden floors in the rooms, so very easy and clean.
Windows open wide. So you can get good ventilation.
The showers and toilets are good quality too.
The place generally has good air ventilation, so despite all the people under one roof, it feels fresh.
The staff are great and helpful.
Good social zone.
Flat screen TV.
It's far enough from the main party areas, so that you don't get many tramps or down-and-outs coming by.
Cons
Good kitchen, but it is small. Especially during busy times. Can feel very cramped.
Wifi is 500mb per device. Could be better, could be worse.
Overall, a great hostel if you are staying in the st kilda area.
D. Y.The staff were very helpful and friendly and the hostel had plenty space to socialise with fellow travellers. But the mattress was the worst I have ever slept on. So if a good night sleep is what you are after, do yourself a favour, find somewhere else.

M. H.I'm travelling around Australia by bike and I stayed at this hostel. Luckily the guy at the reception is a bike freak and he told me all the spots to check out. Overall the hostel had all I needed (especially a warm shower!). Until another time mate!

z.Went during winter. Everything was so cold. And the guests are noisy as well. Thin walls. The toilets are quite dirty. Staff are nice. It is near to the tram stop. Just in front of the backpackers. It was quite far from the city. Around 40mins with tram.

Its location in Fitzroy Street is very close to many cafes, bars/restaurants, public transport (tram & bus), Luna Park, the Ackland Street shops as well as the St Kilda Baths, pier and foreshore. The hostel is safe and clean. The staff are really helpful. Highly recommend!

The rest of the hostel was okay but all the toilet paper was empty in the evening and wasn't refilled until next morning. The free wifi is limited to 500mb per day.

Good Hostel to stay for a few days. Some of the staff is very friendly but a few are also a bit moody.
The hostel has a small but nice kitchen, some free food like noodels or rice and every day pan cakes between 8-10am. Also you have 300mb wifi a day but you can buy everytime more. A woolworth is in the near(5min) to walk. next to the tram station way to the city. The beach is 15minutes away. When you search for tax back then you can get information in the hostel. I walked after that approximately 15min to this place.
In the hostel is one thing very important CLEANING. The floor get vacuum-cleaned 2 or 3 times in a day sometimes also after 7pm. But they didnt clean the room, so its only so clean like your room mates. Only small problems but when i see that this guys clean all day the floors then its a bit strange. During the cleaning its also not allowed to check in. On my first day i waited after 6h (cause checkin is after 2pm) another 20-30minutes :/
The batroom is ok - clean, but very simple (only a shower and a sink. sth like a table is missing, where you lay down your staff during showering.
The most worst thing in the hole hostel is the smoking area. This area is next to the most rooms and its lound up to 11pm (sometimes later). For a relaxing night a bit harsh.

1.Loved every minute of staying at "The Ritz" showers are great, beds are great but it's people that make a hostel and I met some brilliant people here from all over the world that I'll never forget! Had some great nights in the smoking area but if you ain't a smoker then kick back in the common room, play abit of pool and enjoy yourself at the best hostel in Saint Kilda, probably Melbourne!! I will definatly be back!

V. N.We stayed in Ritz Backpackers for 3 nights and enjoyed it. The bed was very clean and the staff very friendly. The backpackers itself offers a free pool night, barbecue night and free pancakes, which was really great. The kitchen was well furnished, but could have had more cultery and plates. The toilets are usable and mostly clean, depending on which one you use. There are quite a lot french people around. At peak times, the kitchen was a bit too busy for me, but all in all, we were satisfied considering it being a backpackers and not a hotel. Would recommend to stay there. :)

Café, thé, paye riz à volonté mais pour être la présentation ne donne pas envie d'y goûter. Bref une auberge de jeunesse au tarif correct ou il ne faut pas être regardant sur le standing
