This wonderful remote valley has some hidden gems and certainly one of them is the Star Hotel. We had a wonderful stay. Michael and Russell were consummate hosts. Tilly the golden retriever was joy too. The room was large and well appointed. Dinner and breakfast were filling and generous. Keeping in mind that Walhalla is a relatively remote community and providores are not exactly around the corner, the hotel offered every reasonable convenience. Michael and Russell are long time residents and so obviously committed to their visitor’s enjoying all aspects of this hidden valley, being a font of historical knowledge. A lovely relaxing time. Thanks guys.

Love the patio garden, fantastic inside, room just perfect. There's a casual restaurant, our meal was fantastic. Can't forget the wine bar, as well as a lounge with tea and coffeemaking facilities, a self-service bar and a dreamy fireplace, you can just sit and sip your drink close your eyes and listen to the crackling of the fire. The whole town of walhalla just provides so much to do it doesn't disappoint. I think the Walhalla's Star Hotel has become a favourite stay here.

It was lovely staying in the hotel with so much local history. The room was very tastefully done and very clean. You can tell the owners take pride in their hotel. Fantastic customer service will stay longer next time.

Highly recommended exclusive mountain retreat, our host made sure the whole building was toasty and warm. Great meals for dinner and breakfast.

We had a lovely weekend at the Star Hotel. Our hosts were brilliant. The dinner, I would highly recommend. Despite the rain, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It's a hidden gem. The hotels resident pooch is sweet and lovely to cuddle. The lounges are cosy and comfortable. Our room was spacious with a lovely view and outdoor balcony. We shall return in the warmer months. Definitely a picturesque part of Victoria.

I rang this place as I was having trouble locating my brother who was camping in the area. The guy I spoke to was very reassuring and helpful.

Hard to get my head around some reviewers doing backflips over some pathetic little reasons! The hosts, the atmosphere, the rooms, the food, the location were all perfect for a weekend getaway. We wouldn't change a thing and will certainly be back to do it all again.

Good clean place, nice food. Get the dinner, bed and breakfast option, and avoid going to Walhalla on Monday and Tuesday. The cafe's and Wally Pub are closed on those days post pandemic. The Erica pub is the same.

A truly beautiful town. We had a wonderful 1 night stay at the Star Hotel. The rooms were faultless and the meal we had on the Tuesday night was tasty and filling. The continental breakfast provided an good array of choices and thoroughly enjoyable before heading off on the steam train. The lounge setup in front of the fire was perfect. Highly recommend

What amazing place Walhalla is and this beautiful little hotel caps it off. If your looking for a little weekend away where you can relax and escape from the hustle and bustle then this is the place. Spacious rooms, warm hospitality and beautiful surround. Michael and his Partner have done an amazing job with this place in keeping with the historic nature of Walhalla.

The level of comfort was superb and the ambiance and friendliness of both staff and fellow guests was so warm... It was a complete joy to stay here. Wahalla and the Star Hotel are such a special place.

I recommend to stay here👍 It was rainy day when we arrived but it made nice view and we were happy to see that! And there is no TV, which is good! You can more concentrate on your partner, friends, or family.

The rooms are always impeccable and during our winter stay the heating has been our best friend. The bathroom was a good size. A counter meal at the Wally Hotel is a enjoyable experience, and after a long day of being a tourist, the Star Hotel is a great place to relax.

Famous for Walhalla, The Star Hotel will leave you wanting to come back here it’s amazing and the Owners are fantastic, really take great pride on the Place, I have been to stay twice now. I’ll be back!

The Walhalla Star Hotel is very nice. One of the staff member told us to come back at 2pm to check in. The front door was locked. He then yelled at us because we rang the bell twice. He then had a really bad attitude showing us through to our room. He acts and looks unprofessional. The rooms are clean but you need to go out to the hallway to make coffee. There is only one key given for the room so that makes it hard if one person goes out because its needed to run the lights. Over priced for what it is. I can't see why it has such a high star rating. It really needs to get rid of that staff member.

Very nice little boutique hotel. Each rooms have names and ours "Fear Not" was large, very nicely made up with an equally nicely made up bathroom. Loved the fact that there was no tv in the room and the wifi connection very slow (only Telstra have 4G here if you cannot be without checking your FB account) which was clearly stated in the directory.
During breakfast we had the opportunity to share our experiences with the Customer Relations Manager Tillie (spelling?) which turned into multiple belly scratches and hitting the soft spot - scratching behind the ears.
This is a highly recommendable place in deed...

Wonderful facilities in a picturesque little township. Great location right in the heart of town . Just missing a little atmosphere. Its all there but enthusiasm is everything if you are to make a return visit.
The garden and surrounds are stunning.

Centrally located in a fascinating historic township. We loved reading up on the history of the town and the hotel in the ***y books provided whilst waiting to through to the restaurant. The Star reminds me of what I think it would be like …

Terrific room and a great meal.
Go and visit the regions.

We stayed at the Star Hotel on the main road in Walhalla and found this to be an excellent choice. The room is spacious and light with a balcony view of the lovely old bandstand and surrounding countryside. Great position in town. Albert Fox's Musical Village is well worth the time spent.

We stayed in the Diamond Room, which caters for people with disabilities and could not have being happier. We had a wonderful time discovering Walhalla's past with a tour of the Goldmine and a leisurely stroll around town. The location is …

Walhalla is a lovely place to visit, rich in history with ***y distractions to keep you busy. Michael was a wonderful host and great to talk to. We took the room, breakfast dinner package, perhaps just a wee bit pricey but we were satisfied as the dinner was very nice.

Congratulations to Micheal for providing us with a magical experience. The owners are lovely blokes who know everything about the town and the local area and were happy to assist travellers with all sorts of advice. The mountain ash trees nearby are huge. Breakfast is a nice continental spread which is a lot and enjoyable.

All very clean. Thank you so much for your awesome friendliness and the way you went about things so discreetly. We enjoyed the walk ***** the old tramway to Thomson railway station, as suggested by Russell. The servings were large and great value. Thank you to the ***agers at Star Hotel for a great (short) stay.
B. S.
Very comfortable. Can access all interesting parts of Walhalla from this hotel. Don't expect great showers though.
T. M.
Believe that ***y of the rooms upstairs have access to the balcony. The town is historic & walking around the town is enjoyable whilst relaxing. A big thank you to Michael and Russell who attended to each guests needs and were more than happy to assist us in preparing for this special occasion.

My wife and I found The Star Hotel a perfect spot to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We were traveling over the mountains and a radar view on the phone would be helpful. A definite hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone in need of a getaway from the big smoke.

We arrived for a 2 night stay on a wet evening, to a very warm and friendly reception.
Our room was on the top floor and had a nice view over the main street from the verandah.
The room was warm, clean and the bed very comfortable.
On our 2nd evening we dined at the Hotels Restaurant and found the food to be of excellent quality and the pricing very reasonable. The hotels owners do advise that their Restaurant menu is not "Pub" fare. We enjoyed the dishes we ordered.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning, for the towns "Ljusfest" in the winter.

Lovely place, very atmospheric and friendly. Dinner was great. Just disappointed there was no cooked breakfast.

Visited & stayed at Walhalla at a recommendation of a friend. We met up with a group of friends who were hosting a birthday in the hotel and it was the perfect location to meet and catch up with everyone, with a dinner on the Saturday night. For $172 you could get a much nicer hotel room elsewhere.

Excellent in Hospitality...Made us feel very welcome...Amazing dinning, fantastic rooms..Excellent views...We will defenatly go again...

The Star Hotel is a reproduction of the original hotel built during the gold mining hey days. We had a lovely room upstairs at the front which looked out over the rotunda, floodlit at night. We were discussing the noise and what to do about it when Michael or Russell were already on the case.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. It was a quiet time for them so that was great for us. Pleasant facilities, spacious room and a great breakfast. Thanks.

Fantastc location. Spacious comfortable and wee fitted out rooms. Homely yet understated period chic decore. Lovely meals. Fully recommend for a romantic or family getaway experiences in a remote but historic location

Fantastic service and clean rooms. This is a rebuilt hotel based on the historical Walhalla's Star Hotel. It seems like it's the only building with a tiny bit of Telstra Mobile Service in the whole of Walhalla (still very weak though).

Great hotel, great service, comfortable room, good food and good wine list. Highly recommended

Michael & Russell are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Our room was good & dinners when available were the best anywhere.

Lovely place. Feel like home. It definitely worth the money. It's around an hour away from the Mt Baw Baw village, not to bad. Will back again.

Beautiful historical hotel, with fire place, cozy and beautiful service excellent for a holiday away from the city , no cell phones coverage the small historical village around the hotel shows a piece of our nation's mining history

Great facilities, clean and quiet. Operator friendly and helpful. A great place to stay and explore Walhalla from.

An incredible glimpse into the past of Victorian gold rush. Step back into 1800,'s with period buildings and history. Just shows how hard it was once upon a time. ..

Good little Hotel. Rooms were nice and comfortable. Service was a bit average.

Welcoming owners offering quality accommodation , we read the reviews before we stayed and we can say the that the quality of the hotel and the staff and the food are well deserved of a 5 star review, clearly they are trying to emerge from the terrible covid strain which has overcome this lovely town . We cant speak highly enough of the lovely welcoming people in this whole special hidden gem only 2 hrs out of Melbourne. Make sure you find the time to spend at least a night here and do the local tours to help them back on their feet.
We feel we have been on a movie set for a few days . A perfect weekend away. Make sure you have Telstra coverage though.
