I tend to go to places twice before I leave a review, and I'm surprised by the other reviews with lower scores. Granted, I've not been here for dinner and it may be that the evening meals are prepared under different pressure conditions. Both times I've come have been during the week and were for lunch. I ordered two different things, both came out after a reasonable time, tasted fresh and well cooked. There was a broad selection of drinks on tap or available as bottles and cans. The play area, though I didn't bring my kids, appears incredibly inviting for kids aged 4 and up unless they are great climbers already. Constructive feedback from observation of those that ordered the same dish as each other on my tables would be to ensure, for example, two schnitzel servings were the same as each other. And they were not from different menus. Consistency is key. That being said, my experience was still 5 star.

Me and my family were served by a staff member called Darcy which was nothing short of professional and friendly. Darcy's customer service and the overall quality of the atmosphere would have me coming back to this venue again. The Argenton Hotel has improved substantially since its renovations and having quality staff like Darcy working is definitely worth making a visit to. Cheers Darcy, made everyone's day a little better by serving us. Will be back again!

Outstanding service and great Schnitzel . My daughter forget to order one of our meals. The staff fast tracked her order and it was on the table within 5 minutes. Now that is great service. Especially when a big group where in the middle if ordering. All staff were friendly, smiling which made doe a very welcoming and happy atmosphere. Great renovations and great facilities.

Went for the first time since the renovations. The new coastal vibe the place has is a nice upgrade. As before, plenty of screens to enjoy sports with large amounts of people. Heaps of space, though not much parking space. I had pasta that was very bland, but everyone else enjoyed their meals. So take from it what you will. 4 stars.

I went out with my family late last week and several meals came out 10-15 minutes after other meals and most people at my table were already done eating, they also came out cold and had to be sent back anyway. The staff however handled it amazingly getting them a new meal and a full refund for there original meals. I obviously understand that it was a busy Saturday night and some times stuff can go wrong. Overall great customer service but food just was average.

Such a family friendly pub. I've been here in many different occasions including with a playgroup on a rainy day. Staff are friendly & accommodating. Playground is great and undercover out of sun & rain. Lots of gluten free options. Weekday Lunch specials are great value, generous portions. Huge screen in outdoor area to watch sport. Separate function room available too.

Argy pub surpasses most if the Newcastle & Lake Macquarie dining establishments primarily due to it having a great family atmosphere, super friendly staff and awesome seating variations; no matter what your preference is. Not to mention the food is sublime & they have relaxed live music in the outdoor area. We quite often return here with our entire extended family consisting of 2-70 year olds & everyone's culinary and social requirements are superbly catered for. Well done to all who own, manage & work here, please keep it up as our entire family love coming here for special occasions!!!

Went here for dinner for a birthday, I booked on the day for dinner, and they were the most accommodating. Especially for my mum who is in a electric wheelchair. The staff and security went above and beyond for us and food was great too! The only reason why I am not giving 5 stars is because when I got served at the bar by the gentleman, he was more interested in his phone then the customer. As I work at a pub, I didn’t think that was respectful but otherwise cannot fault!! Excellent night!!

Place is really well renovated. Some of the food was a bit undercooked (this medium steak was dripping blood) but the flavours are OK. The food came out really fast and the garlic bread came out last. If they can fix up the food it would be 5 stars.

Whether we pop in for happy hour, have a feed from the amazing bistro, or stay for a few cocktails on a Friday or Saturday night we always have a great time here. Friendly helpful and happy staff. My partner and I love visiting the Argy for a beer and a punt and we never leave without having a meal given the food is amazing!!! Great menu choices! Ample seating areas with a great atmosphere but it’s the fabulous, friendly staff that make this place so special. Perfect for families with a huge outdoor undercover playground and large Cabanas or booths.

My family and I were impressed with the professional, accommodating and friendly service of the Restaurant Manager, Jackson. I had concerns about how pink my pork cutlet was (I now know you can have pork slightly pink and its totally fine) I spoke to Jackson about it and he was great. Within 15mins he had another meal cooked for me and ready to take home in a container (see below for my pics).

If I was able to rate this a 4.5 I most certainly would. Inviting and contemporary atmosphere with quality staff. The wide open dining area is ideal for sports or live music performed by someone such as Rod Coote. Nice variety of tap beers and solid menu. Chicken schnitzel is one of the best around, still not over how crispy it was. Unfortunately I do not live within walking distance of the Argo.

A good place to take the family with young kids. I havent given this 5 stars only because I found it hard to find the toilets when i needed to help my toddler use them and the the slippery dip in the playground didn't seem that safe/stable.

We had my husbands 60th birthday celebrations here and all the staff were friendly and outstanding, from the beginning of the booking process, right through to the execution of the timeline I had set up with them. Samantha and Amy when booking and getting it all right and then Ben on Bar duty, with Will the best Covid Marshall out there! 😃 Our food was delicious and cooked beautifully, well done to the Chef and serving staff as it all arrived hot and tasty! The ability to have our own music and photos going in this private space made for a fantastic experience. I will happily recommend based on our great experience. Well done Argy Hotel!

Hi, the only thing was my husbands lunch wasn't the best. He had salt and pepper squid which wasn't cooked appropriately as the the crumbs were soggy which turned him off the lunch! But the rest of your facility is really good! The kids area is great as we had our grandsons with us and they enjoyed it and we caught up with friends and we had an enjoyable afternoon! We definitely would come again and we are visitors from the Port Macquarie area and our have family live in the area.

Like the pub almost 5 stars but the playground can get super busy and at times I wasn't sure if it was safe for so many kids to be in there. But really really great idea. Can make going out for dinner enjoyable. Parents and care givers can sit and enjoy a meal and drink while the kids play!

Soggy chips and veggies that had been under a heat lamp for far to long and a small schnitzel that was closer to a tenderloin than a schnitzel. Id have been disappointed if it was a $12 special let alone the $20 we paid. All six meals were the same, wont be going back.

A great family venue, with excellent outdoor play equipment for the children, and plenty of seating around it so you can let them play without hovering over them. The venue is large, modern, and well presented. Staff are attentive and helpful, and the meals were excellent. A good range of options on the menu, slightly costly, however well worth it. Overall en excellent venue, one of the best family restaurants in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and we'll be back again.

We are loving the new renovations. The open kids area with tables right next to it are a bonus. We where able to enjoy our meal as a couple. But also enjoy the night as a family while the kids had a play and we where right there to keep watch on them. The food was great and well priced. Atmosphere was amazing. Only issue we had was, when we arrived we asked if we could sit right next to the kids area. and the waiter told us we could not unless we had a reservation. We noticed quiet a few empty tables without signs. So went and asked a different staff member and we where told if the table didn't have a reserve sign then we where able to sit there. Which we did. Also i feel like the kids equipment needs a little but of love. Although it is an awesome play area and better than most public parks. I did notice a couple of things that need repairing. Besides this we are definitely coming back. A massive thank you to the owners for making a family friendly pub. They are hard to come by these day's.

Thursday Lunch at The Argenton Hotel with my Grandmother... We originally went for the $14 Weekday Lunch Menu BUT instead the Seafood Tasting Platter for 2 caught my Grans eye! We decided on the share platter and how amazing it was! Very happy with the FRESH Seafood Quality AND the service from staff especially, was fantastic and friendly as usual! The renovation changes look fresh, and the outdoor dining is perfect for the warmer weather. AND not to forget, the kids playground is quite impressive too! Also, not to forget! Their Covid Safety was visibly in place & Covid Marshal was friendly & active throughout the venue. We'll Be Back to try the Smokehouse Platter Next! Thanks again Argy!

Could not flaw this place! Went there recently again to watch a UFC fight. Called ahead due to COVID restrictions, they were very friendly and accomodating. They had seats for the fight, dediciated staff in the area and were quick to fix a hiccup with the show - Big kudos on the manager at the time, getitng on top of this and on the phone straight away! Good family and pub atmosphere. Difficult to do and they pulled it off great. Great venue, good service/staff, amazing bar food - Been here several times and they are consistently good! I cannot recommended this place enough!

Yes it was busy and all the table's were reserved or taken but we did end up finding a table.. beautiful food at a reasonable price and we didn't have to wait long. Great food and an awesome play area for the kids, a bit hectic for smaller kids but bigger kids would have a great time! Meal was well above average for pub food and reasonably priced. The meal also came out quite quickly, especially considering that it was pretty busy when we ordered! Looks like they're finishing up a few renovations from the outside but don't let that deter you, once I got through the door I was in a modern, spacious bar area that leads to an great Al fresco area and not a hint of construction work in the venue proper.

This place is great. Fully renovated inside and out with a large playground within the footprint, all fenced in so you always know where your kids are. You will have to book in advance if you like a table outside near the playground as this is a very popular family stop. Food is great, full bar and snacks.

Had lunch last Friday Our second time since renovations . Meals were excellent and good value - I had the rump steak with garlic prawn topping. Great range of beers. Some of the friendliest staff around.

The renovations are great. The place looks awesome a great place for families, the staff were all really friendly however all of our meals were over cooked, dry and not good at all. We were told that they were a couple of staff members short in the kitchen that day. So it may be a 1 off. I hope so because it’s such a shame to have such a great transformation in the building only to be let down by the food.

Good restaurant, very family friendly, with a huge playground outside. Has been completely updated, looks very modern. Multiple sections for everyone such as, bar area, tables, smoker area outside, outside tables, playground which is located close to tables. Burgers and schnitzel are a go to when we go there, both come with chips. It has a wide variety of choices on the menu, something for everyone. Food took a while to come out but it was a bit busy. If you do go they have a lot of meal deals on the walls so make sure to check them out, they had one that burgers are $12 on Tuesday instead of $20. Overall good place for everyone.

It’s ok. The Reno’s look very nice but the food quality is not as good as it was before hand. $10 for 2 slices of warm bread with butter is a bit average. But, both the pork belly bites and popcorn chicken tapas are pretty amazing! 3 stars for nice atmosphere and huge kids play area. Friendly staff. Sub-standard food. Nice coffee. The staff made the effort to say hello as you walked through. Happy and friendly. Boiled rice with stuff mixed in a sauce poured on it, is not Risotto. Then it was 3 prawns for an extra $8. Bangers and Mash. Bangers where dry and the veggies soggy. Mars Bar cheese was as solid as a rock. However beautifully presented. Coffee from behind the bar was great. However the smell in the bar was less than pleasant due to the smoking area doors being located in the bar. Beer garden is very well set up. Nice place for meeting friends.

Nice enough pub food and several more elevated items such as the tapas range and the fancier mains. Decent if not huge portions. The primary attraction is the large playground and al fresco eating area for families especially on the Monday and Tuesday kids' free meal special. It does force the entire restaurant to be open air due to the traffic which means it is not cool and refreshing on a warm, muggy day.

This was once a rough pub but as usual with bad reputations from the past, this pub is fantastic with a play gym for kids that's bigger than most McDonald's! Great food and $10 lunch specials PLUS cabanas and a massive TV screen. A pleasant surprise in a quiet family area.

Went there today. Very satisfied with my meal except the pizza was a bit too fluffy. Still better than your average dominoes pizza. Also had the mango salad and it was canned mango which was a bit disappointing but still a good meal. My nephew had the kids mac and cheese which was a little bit too milky and cheesy taste but that doesn't really matter to kids. Great family environment just make sure you don't get there after 1pm otherwise it's too busy. Decent prices. Would go there again.

All staff including kitchen staff bent over backwards with good old fashioned hospitality to solve the issue. Shame our recent experience at SJ's (same owners) was not as professional. Love everything about this Hotel, from food to decor to playground. Only downside was music was really loud over lunch in main dining area. Difficult to hold a conversation. Was turned down twice but was still quite loud. Otherwise great job Argenton Hotel. Happy Professional Staff really make your business stand out!

We went here for a family Birthday party and had kids aged 0 to 10. They were happily occupied on the play equipment. The outdoor cabanas are a nice outdoor shaded and private area. The food was quite good, reasonably priced and came out quickly.

I loved the vibe at the Argy hotel. Typical pub feel with a modern and trendy feel + my favourite festoon lights. The meals were very nice (except I made the mistake of ordering something that I didn't like).

Ordered balsamic dressing on the side, didn't get it, then when asked for it came back in a tub with a drop just coating the dish. Girl said thats all they will give you. Oh ok no worries. Bistro manager came around asking everyone how things were, filled him in. Was genuine in looking in to kitchens idea of dressing on the side took it away now I have none. All good. He returned and explained the miscommunication at time of order etc and everyone now up to speed what comes with the order. Food nice and affordable $12 meals at lunch time. Drinks a bit expensive but comparable. Great area for the kids. 7 out of 10

A large variety of well cooked and delicious meals. Staff went out of their way to find extra tables and chairs for friends who turned up unannounced & they provided excellent service throughout the afternoon. Outside eating area is within sight of a large and safe enclosed play area for children which allows parents to eat and enjoy their meal in peace while keeping an eye on their children. Meals are excellent value for money and parking is no problem. Will definitely recommend Argy Hotel to my friends and relatves. *****

Relaxing pub with the most accommodating beer garden for families, sports fans and groups alike. The food was sensational! We were lucky enough to taste the Easter Special Seafood Basket for 2 which was a cut above compared to your average deep-fried seafood variations featuring fresh seafood and fish roe with only your favourite deep fried pieces and wait for it (!) hot mussels in a spiced spanish-inspired tomato sauce! While enjoying our meals our kids ran free in the enclosed play area which will entertain those suckers for hours 😛 To finish off our experience we caught some of the Sunday afternoon footy on the impressive floor-to-ceiling flatscreen in the beer garden, visible from the bar and smoking area if breaks permit. Highly recommended!

Twenty or so of us popped in for a drink and a bite to eat the other night. The hotel is now looking great, it also has a great playground for the kids as well as a large outdoor area. The dinner menu has a very good selection unfortunately by the time we got around to putting in our food order, most of the goodies were sold out!!. Nevertheless, there was still a fair selection. My favourite 'SJ's' beer 'from the mountains' was on tap and nice n' cold... Overall we had a great night. Oh! i must say, the staff were absolutely fantastic with their friendly, fantastic service.... Keep up the great work. The only negative would be the lack of AirCon in the main inside dining area, which i'm sure is being looked into...

If you’re thinking of a great place to hold a hunger strike, look no further than the Argenton. The chances of you getting food here are fairly slim, they’ll keep you honest to your cause. Food is nothing special overall some tasty dishes but some very ordinary, cold garlic bread entree that had just been flashed under the grill to melt the cheese but unfortunately everything below was still cold, pork belly bites were edible a bit dry and bland as the sauce was a bit thin and watery to coat, kids bolognese pasta was woeful very little love in that dish as you can see in the picture just watery tasteless slop. Prawn Pizza and sirloin were the highlights also the pizza goes verry soggy after just a few minutes but the flouvors are nice, just eat quick or share one Service was friendly and quick, great for kids. We would return but I would probably only eat one of the cheap dinner specials.
