Great food. Ample sized serving. Great service from the South American waitress. She provided an excellent service to the 4 of us. Meals were prompt and we were not rushed. Quality of the entree and main meals were great. Each person enjoyed their meal. Environment was excellent. Will be back soon

Everything was exceptional! Room, restaurant, pool area, staff and service. From the moment we arrived it was incredible. Greeted by super friendly staff, our bags taken upstairs immediately. Rooms are spacious and our balcony was visited by lorikeet and kookaburras. Restaurant by the pool is really nice and sunny. Breakfast easy and plenty of options. Pub/restaurant downstairs was fantastic, good food and cocktails and you can chill and even play some pool. Overall just wonderful. I’m so happy we booked way earlier. Definitely coming back!

Solid 4.5 stars. Really enjoyed our stay here, staff are very attentive and helpful. Buffet breakfast hard to fault, as are the facilities. Bannisters Port Stephens isn’t exactly aimed at families but we made it work. Rooms are modern and clean but lacking simple things like a light on the verandah and champagne flutes in the room. All in all wouldn’t hesitate a second visit.

The ultimate hotel we have ever stayed in, I honestly cannot compare this hotel with another, brilliant service, very clean hotel inside and out, fantastic housekeeping services, I attended all the restaurants and the food was amazing, every staff member are so polite and professional, the pool is perfect, the view of the bay is gorgeous, I can not fault this place what so ever. In my opinion this should be considered as a 7 star hotel resort, you'll be very impressed to visit this hotel. Wow!
We are looking forward to our next visit.
Thank you for everything Bannister's, we truly appreciate our stay with you!!

Amazing infinity pool. Rooms are getting tired. Wifi is slow. TV’s are small, no cable included, difficulty to stream phone even though you are supposed to be able to. And I’m not a complete idiot when it comes to IT. Staff and service was great. Beds are super comfortable. All in all I’d say a little overpriced for what you get. Regardless had an amazing birthday weekend in the Bay with my gorgeous partner. Thank you for the gift. X

while there was a lovely view and really good cocktails during happy hour, the food was average and pretty bland. service was lacklustre, with plates and glasses left on the table for our entire stay. expected more :(

We stayed 3 nights at Bannisters Port Stephens and was a little disappointed. The room was $600 per night which didn’t include anything, not even breakfast. The rooms were very basic, nothing fancy.
I thought the resort would have been a bit more exclusive and only for guests, we couldn’t get a dinner reservation or a spa reservation due to it being booked out with people not staying at bannisters.

You definitely pay for the location and the infinity pool. Beds and rooms were great too but there is where it ends. All food was terrible, tried both Terrace bar & Julios and cheeky dog. Let’s start with Julio’s, if the easiest thing on the menu which was guacamole failed then trust me the rest did too. Also very disappointing dessert options and what about some more cocktail varieties in the terrace bar? At least the pina colada was ok! Cheeky dog, only the chicken schnitzel was good the rest very disappointing. We also paid extra for the breakfast, big mistake it’s not worth the money!!! Head to Nelson bay instead and spend money on great cafes there instead. As soon as we walked in and sat down at our breakfast table the hostess tried to sell us coffe and meals you had to pay extra for!! A 4 star hotel can’t even offer a coffee on the house? Then let’s talk about this continental buffet.. the 1 kind of cheese was laying on top of the ham .. There was very few bread options, 1 small plate of pastries that were all old, stale and dry.. the fruit and yogurt also very few options . You literally pay $50 extra for a bowl of cereal and a piece of stale toast. Unfortunately a 4 or a 5 star hotel in Australia is not equal to the ratings and standards for the rest of the world. But the pool was great and the beds amazing, location also spot on. Definitely should be rated a 3 star hotel at maximum.

Loved it! Hubby and I had two nights at Bannisters to celebrate our 10th anniversary and we enjoyed every minute of it! From the bottle of champagne in our room on arrival it was fabulous service at every point. Infinity pool was divine, delicious cocktails and food (although pricey) and comfy room with a view. To top it off, body exfoliation treatment in the day spa was sublime! Can’t wait to visit again!

Bannisters Soldiers Point Port Stephens
Nice location and venue with attentive service. We stayed in one of the ocean upper deck rooms on the top floor, which was spacious with nice views of the bay. Great infinity pool with Julio Restaurant serving Mexican food on the terrace. The walks on the beach around Soldiers Point are stunning and peaceful. Salamander Shops are near, and Nelson Bay is a 15min drive.

Nice Mexican menu on the terrace and poolside at Bannisters. Nice with a jug of Margarita.

I really wish that I had a 5 star experience, but overall our whole experience was underwhelming.
Starting with parking, it was difficult.
Scallops for starters was disappointing, my agnolotti pasta for mains at $36 for less than 8 small pieces was surprising.
Luckily dessert was magnificent.
Service could not be faulted. So 3 stars for the service, but overall a disappointing experience for $208.

Maybe we were there at a bad time, but it was not the experience I was expecting for the price. There seemed to be a group of families who knew each other all staying at the same time, and their kids were largely left unsupervised. I have no issue with kids (I have 2 of my own, who were not along on this trip), but for the price paid, I was not expecting to have kids skateboarding outside my room, knocking on my door, and holding loud conversations (sometimes as late as 11pm). The only time I saw / heard the parents was when they all had an extended chat outside my room too. A similar experience could have been had at a Big 4 Park for less.
It felt like there was no privacy and definitely no peace or solitude. Also, parking at this hotel (though a minor thing on its own) is an absolute debacle.
I have stayed at Bannisters Mollymook and the Anchorage at Port Stephens, and would return to both without question. It is unlikely I would stay at Bannisters Port Stephens again.

Excellent hotel, dog friendly rooms, accommodating staff and a perfect escape for you and your furry friend. Highly recommend the pet friendly suite available with separate living and bedrooms. Would love to come back.

Fantastic stay. When you arrive, you are welcomed by a gleaming facade. A lot bigger than expected. The check in area is full of people as Toli’s was located there, which gave it a nice vibe. The staff were extremely friendly and check in was super quick.
Our room was at the far end of the resort on the top floor. The room was amazing, with a combination of a modern and beachy vibe.
On our first night, we went to the cheeky dog, which was delicious. I would recommend the prosciutto pizza.
Rick steins was delicious. Such friendly staff.
Toli’s was also amazing.
There is a little beach tucked behind the pier, which is great.
However, there is one thing I have to point out: the pool is freezing cold. But other than that, it was beautifully designed. Would definitely come back

Love this place so much! Just had our third stay there and it was wonderful once again. The rooms are beautifully appointed and it's a great reinvention of an iconic hotel. The service is so friendly, absolutely first class. The food is wonderful of course, with three different options ranging from a pub to a fine dining restaurant. my favourite is the Terrace Bar, though I prefer the regular menu to the Julio's Mexican pop up. But the very best thing about the whole place is the Day Spa, particularly Brooke who runs it - what a calming, relaxing place with such incredible professional treatments.
j. k.
Everything was brilliant, starting with the staff who were so attentive and friendly. Then, the food! OMG. We loved Rick Stein’s and also Toli’s. So, so delicious, even on a Sunday/Monday night when you might think everyone had gone home. Nope, that’s not an issue here. Every night was as good as the one before. It was all absolutely wonderful and we’d have zero hesitation to recommend Bannister’s. It truly was a dream holiday. Thank you!

SoCal at Port Stephens. Great location, cocktails and service. Love the views and rooms too.

Great resort with a fantastic selection of restaurants and bars, make sure you visit!

Lovely relaxed vibe, we absolutely loved our 2 night stay and thought it amazing value for money. Best continental breakfast we have ever had. Dinner was sensational sea food, very discreet and professional attentive service, good wine list. Rooms clean and simply furnished, beachside appropriate. Cant wait to return. Thank you Bannisters ❤❤
J. W.
Absolutely loved our stay here. Already planning our next trip.
Dog friendly which is the best! We sat on the lawn chairs and used it like a park. The dogs and us were pleased.
Mexican restaurant was good but over priced for a pool side dinner and small portions.
Pub was massive and the live music was a treat. Great outdoor seating.
Rick steins lives up to the hype. The manager there was next level good. Really enjoyed our food but also the experience. He was Scottish.
G. T.
Whether you want the pub style atmosphere or the fine dining experience Bannisters has exactly what you are looking for. Accommodation wise Bannisters has that covered too. Are you looking for a place that will accommodate your family's furry friend or a place with spectacular penthouse luxury? A great place to visit for a meal or a stay, the staff will ensure your visit is enjoyable and satisfying. It's time for a visit or a return.

Lovely weekend away! Staff were very nice. Beautiful, clean room that smelt heavenly. Stayed in a ground floor ocean view room which was great with morning sun. While there are so many great things to do around Port Stephens, I highly recommend just lounging around the pool, reading a book and having some drinks. Was paradise.
Rick Stein restaurant had a great atmosphere, helpful staff and great food. Also reasonably priced. Cheeky Dog also good for a drink.
However, will only give Bannisters 4 stars because despite the great time we had, I believe it is over priced (and we only went as a gift from friends.) STILL it was a great time and glad we got to have a nice weekend away feeling fancy.
L. W.
Very relaxing 3 night stay booked as the Spring Special which was great value.
Stayed in an Ocean Deck room on level 3 which was large, bright, clean and got the morning sun. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Dinner at Rick's was tasty and food at the the Mexican pop was very good. Terrace Bar and Cheeky Dog menus are a bit limited on choice. Not many sun loungers by the pool and an issue with people staking claim first thing and then going off, leaving towels to mark territory. Enjoyed our stay

Welcoming staff, fresh clean rooms serviced daily, although refurbished still a little dated. All amenities provided, coffee machine and pods pleasant surprise, tea coffee milk also provided with complimentary water bottles on arrival. Pool area quite nice with bar and food service available. We chose to eat at club across the road instead of their restaurants. Only 3 disabled parking spots, and not undercover. These are on the higher level accommodating maybe 60cars. There was a mid level area as well as a lower area of parking. This would be the only negative fills up rather quickly. Thank goodness for the lift at lower level as driveway is quite steep up to room level. Little over priced, but service was wonderful.
R. M.
Cheeky Dog pub was OK. Beers $6.50 surcharge for credit. Dog friendly.
L. H.
We ate at Bannisters restaurant last week and had an excellent meal. The staff were friendly and efficient. I particularly enjoyed the salmon curry. One small negative would be the children’s menu - I think they could do better than nuggets and chips. How about lasagne, cottage pie, sushi, noodles, any of these would be a welcome change from fried food which every kids’ menu seems to consist of! My 9 year old ended up eating most of my sashimi which was delicious.

Cat at Spa Bannisters Port Stephen gave the most amazing relaxation massage!! Best one hour of my day!!!
V. G.
Beautiful decor and views stunning. Dinner at Steins excellent. I've been before and always something new and tasty. We had lunch at terrace bar and also the pub both great. Staff really lovely and helpful. I had a spa treatment while my husband went and played golf. Spa was the most relaxing 2 hours l have ever had. Definitely would go back
M. P.
Great location, friendly staff. Looks a little like a motel but very comfortable.
R. C.
One of the premier restaurants in Port Stephen’s but very different vibe to Mollymook. Large dinning area with a limited but interesting menu. Sashimi starter was on point. Fresh and delicious. Pippies in XO were also very tasty with some great sizes pippies. Ravioli was also a crowd pleaser. The seafood stew was ok. Not great and for $56 expect a whole lot more seafood and to be honest, flavour. Without a doubt, the highlight dish was the bread and butter pudding. It was a hearty serve and the most amazing crispy sourdough basking in delightfully comforting creamy vanilla pudding. This dish will live with me for years to come.

Amazing Hotel. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here over the weekend. Check in isn’t until 3pm so we booked Rick Steins for 1:30pm. When we arrived at 1:15pm our room was ready so we were able to freshen up after our drive from Sydney. Our meal was amazing, they treated us to an Anniversary style dessert. When we got back to our room we notice they also left us some complimentary champagne to celebrate our Anniversary! So lovely. The pool is huge and really nice. We stayed around the pool for the afternoon ordering cocktails and enjoying a sunset swim. The terrace bar have great food options. The staff were so accommodating and helpful. Check out was super easy and we managed to squeeze in our continental breakfast down at the restaurant before we left for Sydney. Hands down an amazing hotel, it’s worth more stars! We are already planning our return.

We loved our stay at Bannister's Port Stephens. We stayed in the upper deck Ocean view room which was spacious, clean and comfortable. I had an ankle injury days before arriving so was glad there were lifts to all rooms and down to restaurants and parking spots. The pool and terrace bar were fantastic! We spent much more time there than planned just lazing around, drinking, eating, swimming and hanging with the kookaburras by the pool. Despite what TripAdvisor and Google reviews say, Rick Steins was the best meal we had throughout our 5 day stay at Port Stephens. We tried all of the other highly rated restaurants in the area but Rick Steins was the best although more expensive. We had an amazing experience at the spa with a couple's massage with facials. I highly highly recommend Brooke for a facial. I will definitely be visiting Brooke again for a facial on my next visit. The only criticism I have is with the breakfast. Included are 2 small croissants, 2 pieces of banana bread, vanilla yoghurt with granola and fruit. If you want eggs or avocado, you need to pay full price. Besides this, our stay was fantastic.

We had so much fun! Thank you Team Bannisters for taking great care of us during the Christmas holidays 😘 we stayed from December 23-27 and it was all enjoyable! Dinner at Rick Steins is fantastic, the Singapore Chilli Crab is to die for! The light lunch at Terrace Bar is delicious 🤤 I don’t know why there are negative reviews about their daily breakfast but we found it healthy and well-balanced which we think is great especially during Covid that one should stay healthy 😊 my kiddo enjoyed the stay and he got a present from Santa 🎅🏻 which he super enjoyed! The Christmas Day breakfast was VERY special! It was delivered to our room with Champagne and Coffee 🎄 The room is always cleaned and they are very generous with the pleasantries. It’s a 4-star hotel but we can say it’s 4.75 stars ⭐️ they went super extra mile to make us feel relaxed and happy during our stay! And checkout was easy breezy! We already recommended it to our friends and the Senior Leaders of my team. For sure they will definitely be visiting you guys! Thaaaaaank you! See you again!

First off the place was chilly. Then the service was nice but not 5 star. The meals were ok but I wanted mouth drooling food as I heard good things. The best part of the meal was the wine and the dessert. I think Rick Stein needs to visit and teach the chef how to add the wow factor. A lot of money for a very ordinary experience.

Was very much looking forward to our stay at Bannisters Port Stephens.
Dinner at Rick Stein was the standout - the seafood was out of this world fresh, we spent big and devoured every morsel. Get the share seafood plate in the entree - was insane! Also best sashimi I have possibly ever have and I love Japanese food and have had a lot of sashimi, I can still taste it now!
On a whole the hotel was was good but not as much as its hyped to be and for the $$$. I have stayed in a lot of luxury establishments both in Australia, and around the world, and Bannisters PS def scores on the lower end of the scale with me. One of my 'gripes' would have to be the limited amount of food and beverage you can order poolside! Like the snack menu is like 5 things, we were hungry but there just wasn't anything to choose between! Thankfully we had been to the shops and bought snacks for the room - chips, cheese etc, we needed them! Drinks and food very expensive for what you get.
K. G.
I have been to the Mollymook Bannisters twice so decided to try out the Port Stephens one for a family getaway. The rooms had been recently renovated which was nice. Unfortunately the food was very hit and miss. Some of the Terrace Bar meals were very ordinary. The continental breakfast was terrible with stale pastries. The staff were friendly. The rooms were a little small, probably not suited for a longer holiday but ok for a weekend away. The Rick Stein Restaurant is very good and worth dining at.
M. C.
Went here for a special birthday dinner & it was the best! The setting, ambience and service was warm and friendly. The food was delicious and I received a lovely personal touch with the birthday wish. Highly recommend Rick Stein @ Bannister's Port Stephens.
J. D.
It is a glorified motel. The screens are not private enough between rooms, the neighbours looked straight in at our bed. They have done work to try to dress it up, I liked the decor, although probably not worth the $ for value. The staff were wonderful (except upon check in, we missed out on the run through as glass of sparkling, didn't know there was breakfast available until we called the next morning). Eggs and bacon not included in their breakfast, quite poor form. Pool was freezing, it was the end of Nov.
Though and I do like the option of dog friendly rooms, 3 is not enough though, suggest the ground floor should have at least 6 as the option is very favourable.

Where does one start, the accommodation with its own private balcony facing the water was absolutely superb in all ways, comfy, quiet and very inviting. we also had lifts to our car park area. the casual bars before dinner were very comfortable, the staff super friendly.. The main restaurant was a buzz of activity, the wait staff that sat us at our table looked after us the whole time we were there. The mouth watering menu was exactly what we expected, the wine was great, the whole experience was out of this world. then the food arrived, you could taste that Rick had handpicked the chefs from the best in the country.. overall, highly recommended for a bite to eat or a weekend away... its the experience !! it was very unfortunate that i had caught a cold a few days before we arrived which put a slight damper on things but we still managed a great time...
L. H.
We ate at the Terrace restaurant and food and drink was excellent. Ambience was a little lacking compared to Rick Stein's restaurant underneath but it was nice enough. Staff were great. Highly recommended for casual dining.

Absolutely everything has been considered at this luxury resort. Brilliant.

Great location. The rooms are spacious and modern. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Had dinner at Rick Stien and the meal was great. Much bigger than I expected. Highly recommend and will come again.
M. S.
We had a fantastic 2 nights stay at the Bannisters, my husband celebrated a birthday. The property has had a lot of upgrading and it is has been done very tastefully.
Our room 103 was great, spacious and had a small patio onto the garden and a view of the water through the trees. If I have to mention one negative, it would be the coffee in the room
( Instant). I would really like a coffee machine or plunger in the rooms.
The food at Ricks was lovely and the restaurant is a great space.
The spa treatment was amazing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Port Stephens area for an up market getaway!
G. B.
Cocktails at the pool. Amazing dinner at restaurant. Relaxing stay. Definitely would stay again.
L. F. B.
Hotel with comfortable rooms, nice bathrooms and great views over the water. Rooms have balconies but all rooms open to outdoor walkways , so lousy in the rain. And parking /access is convoluted and on so many different levels
M. S.
An excellent resort and a lovely location. The bed was comfortable and the room amenities exceptional. The seafood dining experience at Rick Steins was great with some great wine options on the menu. We have stayed at Bannisters Mollymook and will continue to use the Bannisters resorts as a great weekend away option.
P. S.
Usually a great experience. But not during COVID. They will make you feel targeted. Every employee asked us for a zip code AT LEAST once, making sure we are not coming from a "hotspot", even though they had it in their computer system already. If you are that worried, close the hotel. There is 2 "covid-coordinators" walking around at all times WITHOUT MASKS. What exactly are you coordinating... Guy at check-in couldn't care less and the lady at checkout didn't ask us how experience was. Just went straight to the credit card part of things. Employees in general always seem too busy or in a bad mood. Might be back. We will see. great "get-away" location and great food, nonetheless. Room was very clean as well.
Rooms are currently $400+ a night. For that money you can go to the Four Seasons or Intercontinental for 2 nites and you get better service and all their employees are wearing masks (with temp check at the entrance)
E. S.
What a gorgeous place. Barefoot luxury at its best. Loved the coastal relaxed elegance of the room. Service was great. The food at Rick Steins was sublime. Service was a bit slow in the restaurant to begin with, but improved rapidly to excellent. Highly recommend for a relaxing soujurn far from the madding crowd.
e. s.
Excellent service, rooms, food and hospitality. Thank you James and the other staff for welcoming us and making us feel spoilt and pampered.
C. J.
Loved our stay at Bannisters in Port Stephens, such an awesome place to be. Great places to eat and drink, absolutely loved the food at Rick Steins. My wife and I can't wait to come back.
G. T.
We went away for the weekend to finally get out of the city after lockdown! Is was so lovely to open the rooms door to all the wildlife and there noises with a stunning outlook! Great in room breakfast! From reception lady could do with a smile and better attitude but the rest out did this. Also eat at ricks!
J. D.
Great accommodation, great food. Highly recommended.
M. M.
Excellent choice for a relaxing holiday. The customer service and the staff are amazing, they strive to help you and offer a great service. Overall experience from reception on arrival, pool and pool staff and restaurant, Spa and departure was great and will definitely comes again.
They thought of details we had a baby the cote was ready and they allowed a bin just for napies. Also the room smelled clean on arrival.
S. K.
Such a lovely relaxing place with great service. The filtered views from the Terrace and Pool Deck are lovely. Just the tonic I needed after two hectic days.
G. J.
My friends all tell me the other Bannisters is better than the Port Stephens ones. And they are probably right. But that doesn’t take away the fact this is a great place!
Since the moment we checked in the service was amazing. Staff are so attentive and friendly. I was really impressed.
The room was nice and had obviously been done up from when this used to be just hotel. The shower was a bit small but that’s about the only downfall. Lovely views onto the waters with magical sunrise.
We had continental breakfast 2 out of the 3 mornings we were there and it was quite nice. Also made a refreshing difference to heavy buffets most places usually have. Food was all very fresh and again staff were awesome.
We have stayed at the Anchorage before, and although the Anchorage beats this place hands down... this is clearly in contention for the 2nd nicest place to stay in Port Stephens.
Port Stephens has some amazing places to stay—this is one of them!
If the other Bannisters are better, we can’t wait to go!
K. S.
From check in to check out my wife and I had an incredible time. The staff were lovely the setting is beautiful and the rooms are very peaceful and relaxing. We had such a great day by the pool enjoying what the Terrace Bar had to offer and then an incredible dinner at Rick Stein.
J. J.
Beautiful location in amongst wilderness. The amenities are high end and luxurious. Small pool but plenty of room for those that fancy a dip. The lake by the hotel is insanely beautiful and full of life. Almost as much as the trees above. We saw Koalas and many different other bird species all happily living amongst the trees. Sea Eagles, Lorikeets, Kookaburra and many others. The rooms are large and airy with beautiful views from the small balcony. Plenty of Restaurants to eat and drink in with wonderful food and large selection or wines and craft beers. The staff are knowledgeable of the local area and very helpful.
N. D. C.
Staff were absolutely amazing and friendly. Main Seafood dishes need a bit more variety. My partner said the female bathroom needs a females touch with extra lighting and mirrors
G. M.
Enjoyed a relaxing two-night stay at Bannisters.
Check-in was seamless, complimentary spritz on arrival, our ocean view room was clean/cool/comfortable although our ocean view was blocked by trees which given the extra cost was disappointing.
Service at the pool bar was good; oysters, wine, cold beers, food was good (fish tacos/eggplant chips/buns).
The continental breakfast was nice, although I do think that for the price of our stay a coffee made by a barista should have been included.
The tavern does leave lots to be desired with a seeming lack of care (music, lighting, venue cleanliness) shown to this section of the hotel.
We dined at Rick Stein's on our second night and it was tremendous.
Would like to re-visit Bannisters in a couple of years to see how management develop this hotel.
I. C.
This place is paradise! Great service beautiful rooms with the most peaceful view of soldiers point and the food in the restaurant makes it a destination in itself with all the high quality seafood. Best weekend getaway. Altho it'd be great if they got a heater for their pool cause the water was very cold.
K. B.
We booked this through luxury escapes.
The room was good with a sea view, included in the package was an open menu 2 course lunch with 2 set cocktails.
The lunch was very good but i think with amount that was paid for the package you should have been able to chose which cocktail you wanted.
The breakfast was good but if you wanted a hot cooked breakfast you had to.pay for it which I thought was very rude.
With a well known name for this hotel, a hot cooked breakfast should definitely be included in the package.
With where we haved stayed overseas and here in australia that is always the option for breakfast.
No traffic noise.
The staff were pleasant and obliging.
Overall a good stay.

What beautiful staff. On hearing our sob story of returning early from our honeymoon with a sick baby, after my birthday was less than ideal, they gave us a great deal on a room, including a full buffet and Al a carte breakfast. They sent two drinks up to our room too! We didn't get to check out the facilities as we were there for a super short time but breakfast was delicious, staff accommodating and kind, place looked nice and well styled and our dinner (eaten in our room...on our laps though, no proper height table did make it a bit weird) was super delicious. If I was staying here longer I would be disappointed to not have a bath (those rooms were well out of our budget) especially traveling with a baby. Also, not being able to put her in a separate space was challenging but for one night was doable. Rooms were nice enough, but a little basic for the bannisters name. An amazing breakfast. Huge thanks to Anne Marie and Sarah for their amazing customer service
H. B.
By far, the nicest meal I've had in such a long time. Great value, amazing food. The sashimi.. amazing.. the shellfish.. amazing.. the Murray Cod.. you guessed it.. amazing... be sure to try it with a mouthful of the butter and salmon roe, and last but by no means least, the whole snapper! AHH-MAYYYY-ZINGGGGGG!!!!
K. H.
Such a beautiful location, staff were friendly and accommodating, rooms light and a fresh feel to it.
Food was delicious, so good to have the 3 different options to eat at throughout the stay. Highly recommend
M. J.
We recently enjoyed a extremely calm and serene couple of days at Bannisters. All staff were welcoming ,helpful and very pleasant. Our room was lovely and the view outstanding. We enjoyed the food at both the restaurant and on the Terrace. A perfect break thanks everyone.
J. K.
Such a lovely place to stay at Port Stephens, particularly if you are looking for dog friendly accomodation (rare in Australia). There are two main dog friendly rooms known as the ocean rooms, next to the reception, where we stayed with two dogs for two nights. This has direct access to the garden where you can lounge and enjoy the view, or your dogs can do their business. Since it was raining, we mostly used it for the latter.
We loved the contemporary decor, easy access to a quiet jetty, beautiful views and pool, amazing Rick Stein seafood restaurant and the staff were so kind.
Only call-out per below is the dog friendly rooms can cause the dogs some agitation, since you can hear a lot of people coming and going. My Maltese in particular did not sleep very well. May also be the inherent scent of other dogs in the carpet?
But all in all... Would definitely come again
A. S.
Great place to get away from Sydney for the weekend and relax. The staff are great and the rooms and restaurants are great! One of the better continental breakfasts. The hotel is also child and pet friendly. Make sure you book early for lunch or dinner at Rick's, we could only get Sunday lunchtime.
S. T.
Rooms were nicely presented - white barn doors, little balcony in the upper ocean room. Lifts access from the carparks. The location is a tad far from attractions but no issue with a car.
B. R.
My wife and I stayed here for a babymoon holiday and had the best time. Nice hotel, great rooms, fantastic spa and the food was incredible. Only downside for me was the service poolside for hotel guests was a bit hit and miss.. You'd have to go looking for them sometimes. Other than that awesome and the staff were for the most part very attentive and friendly.
P.
Really enjoyed our stay in the mid-century 'barefoot luxury' of the revamped resort. Restaurant was excellent and the staff service was outstanding. The aircon/heating in the rooms could be a bit better but overall is a definite "we'll be back"!
G. O.
Food was fantastic and beautifully cooked. Tried 7 or 8 seafood dishes and all delightful. Service was a bit average though. Kinda forgetful and a bit lax. We ordered wine and it arrived when we'd almost finished for example. Get the snapper in chermoula if it's on the menu 😎
C.
Unfortunately, this renovated 1960s (ish) hotel does not do the Bannisters name any justice.
I admit that my expectations were set very high given my experience with Bannisters Mollymook.
The rooms whilst clean and tastefully renovated are still the original size and if you are looking for that 'romantic-weekend-away', be prepared that the adjoining room walls are paper thin, the main beds are 2 singles stuck together with a center hump that Trump would be proud to have as a border wall, and the bathrooms are painfully small.
On a positive note, the staff are lovely. Cocktails rock, and dogs are welcome.

As in impromptu overnight stay, upgraded to a luxuriously large room overlooking the water. Staff were very welcoming and nothing was a problem for them. Would highly recommend for a mid-week getaway. The onsite Day Spa and Rick Stein's restaurant alone warrant a return visit.

We went for my husband’s birthday.
Their service was great,
The foods were very yummy and the atmosphere was nice too.
Highly recommend!♥️☺️👍

What a great weekend away. Stayed at Bannisters for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a very calming and relaxing atmosphere.
Continental breakfast was included in our package, but to be honest it was average. I would have expected more bread choices eg. seeds, grains, rye breads etc. Cheeses were very limited too. On two mornings staff took quite a long time to replenish items that had run out.
Overall staff at the hotel were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Some room layouts weren't that well thought through and I am still wondering why there were no proper wardrobes but only a hanging rack and some drawers. The first room we stayed in even had the sofa facing the hanging rack and not the view or the TV.
The 2nd room we were given had the tv in an awkward location, a simple swivel bracket instead of a fixed bracket would have solved the problem.
The pool and casual lunch/dining area is stunning.
H. H.
We stayed in the "dog friendly room", and there was nothing dog friendly about it to be quite honest. It was a room where dogs can go into essentially. We decided to cut our stay short by one day because we couldn't handle another day of feeling boxed in and uncomfortable.
We felt mislead about the room for the following reasons:
1) Room was really small for 2 humans alone and with a dog or two
2) No sink or a fridge big enough to clean/store our dog's food
3) The room is located right next to reception where there's a high volumn of people coming and going which unsettled our dogs
4) There's no area in the room to place a bowl of water for the dogs, so we had to ask for additional towels to create our own.
On the positive side, the staff were friendly and generally accommodating. The restaurant was also great to eat it.
J. E.
Lovely location, nice rooms.
Clearly a refurbish or an old motel, but done nicely. Ridiculous that barrister coffee costs extra at breakfast...come on! Rick steins was lovely for dinner...though service could be more attentive.
K. P.
Really nice experience with bannisters. The room had a slightly musty smell but the view, comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom made up for that. The breakfast included was really good!!
L. J.
Stayed for 4days. Overpriced for the quality. Great location & room had a nice view (411), got a bottled water on the 1st day but that was it. - when spending $500/night I would think you get this. My mother bought us bottle of bubbles for my birthday, it was a surprise & a note was written saying your Veuve is in the fridge (on a piece of notepad)...no card or amenity from hotel either plus the charge for the bubbles was on my bill. Pool area great & dinner great. Breakfast was ok but again should have cooked included & coffee at the price we paid.
D. R.
Beautiful setting and open.plan restaurant - tables were not cramped together.
Food was great and fresh - presentation was ok but could have a bit more flair for the price.
Wine was nice but a little overpriced by the glass.
Service was excellent and frequent enough not to make you feel forgotten or pressured.
A very nice experience.
D. B.
Very nice environment, beautiful design and lights. Professional, nice and polite staff. The food didn't meet our expectation. Shoestring was just fries. Fish and chips was not much different from what you can buy for $10, buy price was 4 times as much. It was a good experience but not something that you may wanna do again.

Booked a luxurious and relaxing two-night babymoon getaway at Bannisters and was not disappointed. The staff were great, friendly, up for a chat and always happy to help.
Easy and pain free check-in, complimentary drinks on arrival which was part of our package, the penthouse with ocean views was just amazing and could not be faulted. Super clean and modern including a Smart TV with Netflix (just need to sign in with your own account).
On our first night the Terrace Bar just next to the reception was great. Bao buns, Fish Taco's, cold beers what’s not love.
The continental & al a carte breakfasts each morning was a very nice spread, heaps to choose from and coffee made by the barista was included in our package which was a nice touch.
We then dined at Rick Stein's on our second night and it was amazing, Word of advice - Book in advance to get the time you want, and if you want to try the lobster thermidor, which I recommend, make an early booking. We dined at 7pm and there was only 3 lobster's left to choose from.
We will be back at Bannisters sometime soon with baby and dogs in tow to take advantage of one of their pet friendly rooms.
S.
Do yourself a favour and enjoy a few cocktails poolside at Bannisters. The staff are friendly and attentive and mix a fantastic cocktail.
T. M.
Stayed here Sept 2014 and thought it was great. Good buffet breakfast included in the price but would like to see the return of good coffee instead of instant. Location is perfect as we walked no more than 90 seconds out the back of the resort and we were on the beach.
L. R.
Great location lovely room attentive staff and professional service. Terrace bar furniture with fabric covers and
Floor mats are now grotty . Such a shame. Noise from Cheeky Dog at night is quite audible and disturbs peacefulness of guests. Just a few things needing attention to bring this place back to its peak.
G. M.
Ok the restaurant has only been open for 3-4 weeks, So lets keep that in mined. Well the food is Amazing very nice very happy with the food, The restaurant its self very modem and fancy I liked it a lot and Not noisy at all and it was just about full as well.
Ok here is the bad part the staff are friendly and very nice But the service is BAD they do not pay attention to what is going on we did a lot of waiting for staff and a lot of waving down of staff. At one stage there where 4-5 staff at the bar having a chat while we and other tables wait on them, keep in mined that there where 10 to 12 staff on just in the dinning room. So for the $$$$ you spend on a night out there I would expected a lot better service and it is pricey.
My conclusion is Yes I will be back.
M. C.
Bannisters Port Stephen or The Anchorage!...
It's hard to split these two top Port Stephen's hotels. Bannisters opened a few months ago in the shell of an old motel. They've done well to contemporise the rooms. Rooms are well sized and have fold out sofa bed that could accommodate two children. We stayed in adjoining paperback rooms. Have a new feel. All round have small balconies. Only small criticism is the bathrooms are small and not wardrobe but clothing rack instead. Peaceful relaxing location and staff are very friendly helpful.
Nice infinity pool with great range of snack food and drinks. Infinity pool not that suited to kids as small and cold and adults surrounding enjoying drinks.
Compared to the Anchorage? Had had a recent refurb. I found the food and drink and relaxed atmosphere better at Bannisters but the Anchorage pool is better for kids or if you are active.
Verdict: you'll do well at both!
J. O.
We stayed a couple of nights in the ocean deck rooms, the best parts were the food and views. However the rooms are basic and renovated cheaply, not what you would call luxurious especially for the room rate you pay; the bathroom door is pathetic, noone wants to hear their other half in the bathroom doung their businsss on a romantic getaway.
The terrace is great during the day, supposedly closed to the public until 5pm I assume to ensure guest privacy etc., but it was quite clear that staff let the general public through to sit down for meals and drinks, so forget about any privacy.
Parking is also limited on top of the hill, but there is parking down the steep hill.
J. S.
Stayed 2 nights. Very nice, very busy. Went to Rick Stein's for dinner. Very good.
S. C.
Had the fish pie and a variety of other dishes, everything was flawless! The only disappointment was not being able to order the chilli crab, it was clearly too popular and they ran out. We will definitely be back to try more.
J. A.
Great little place to stay, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The restaurants are a little costly for what the quality delivers but all in all good experience.
J. S.
Bannisters did a good job on rennovating the former motel. The service was exceptional and the staff were all great. Unfortunately the rooms and food prices during peak season are overpriced and not worth it.
Rick Stein's was a major disappointment and would not recommend eating there with prices more expensive than going to Bennelong or Cafe Sydney.
M. W.
Bannisters Port Stephens is a slice of heaven just back from the waters edge...
With beautiful bush and water views, you can read a book in the sun on you balcony or down by the pool, enjoying a tipple from the terrace bar.
I look forward to returning and also visiting & experiencing Bannisters Mollymook in future!
D. E.
Food was excellent along with the service. Don't go there to order a hamburger, you will be disappointed. Best food I have tasted for some time. Bookings are essential.
T. M.
Handy access to all local attractions and shopping centre at Sala***der Bay. The room had double sliding doors that cld be left open at night for fresh air. Service was friendly and we had a great pub-style meal in the restaurant. A very affordable place to stay. We will be back.
S. K.
The main complex and surrounds plus the rooms have been refurbished to suit the area so well. The friendly staff greeted us with style and elegance and a glass of Chandon was a fantastic touch. The food is amazing and lots to choose from. Beds are very comfortable. The multie head shower is so refreshing, Complentry bottle water and wifi fantastic, Only negative, I got the impression when booking that this place would be best suited for adults and was the sole reason for booking. There are so many places in Port Stephens to holiday with kids and Bannisters is not one of them. We will definitely stay again.
Thanks for your hospitallty.
p. f.
My face blanched at the new room prices quicker than Rick's shellfish in boiling water. Also a curiously low number of actual banisters are visible. Perhaps using the additional "n" this could become part of the new lexicon for disproportionately emptying one's wallet, eg "they really threw him.over the Bannisters". Plus side: great location, and finally a downstairs renovation that isn't half baked.
J. A.
holey moley what a view! Had lunch at the new Rick Stein restaurant at the weekend and it did not disappoint. The fish pie was a highlight for me. Took a tour around the hotel while I was there and it looks completely different from the old Sally shores hotel from back in the day. Really gorgeous space and a lovely addition to Port Stevens.
A. A.
Another fabulous evening at Bannister's Port Stephens. Fabulous food, terrific service. Sipping cocktails as the sun goes down, balmy breeze, glistening water. A perfect summer night
T. M.
A million dollar location with a really relaxed and friendly feel to the hotel. The room was comfotable and had the necessities. The staff right across the board could not be more helpful or courteous. The location is great and the place is busy but there seems to be a lack of customer service/awareness of customer requirements.
D. P.
Only went in for a couple of drinks. The glass of Proseco was $12 and was a half filled champagne flute. Don't mind expensive prices at such an up-market venue but at least give a full glass as we expect and get at other venues.
R. M.
Exceptional. There is plenty of seafood that I won't eat anywhere other than a Rick Stein Bannisters restaurants. Port Stephens did not disappoint. Exceptionally fresh seafood melded with beautifully balanced flavours. Well worth the price
F. M.
Superb! From the customer service to the stylish decor. The Rick Stein restaurant was amazing also! We will definately return for another quick getaway very soon!
M.
A nice, warm place with amazing views. We had a very memorable weekend. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
C. S.
Food was good we ordered burgers with chips for 24 dollars and a pasta linguini with prawns for 36 dollars. Its nice but a little pricy all the surrounding shops in port stephens has almost the same prices and a little expensive than what you would think. They have a nice pool and overlooking the sea. You can chrck on the pictures i took. Also Ive attached the menu so you can check out the list.
A. G.
Well worth the travel.
On arrival Recption staff made us feel completely at home.
My partner couldn’t resist the temptation of the jetty and had a couple of casts before we settled into our beautiful suite. The bed and pillows with the sound of the lapping shores left us completely content.
The following day after an amazing breakfast of smoked salmon, capers, tropical fruits, yogurt and the option of chia pudding, we travelled through the bays to return to an amazing experience at Rick Steins Restaurant.
Gemma was amazing. The quail, prawns and oysters, beyond expectation. Service was incredible.
We truely can’t wait to get back to the serenity of Bannisters at Port Stephens.
C. A.
Gorgeous, I would love to stay there, ive stayed at Bannisters in Mollymook gorgeous also, the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful ambience, the pool was very inviting! We had a lovely coffee looking out onto the water, superb!!
L. V.
Amazing location. Great accommodation. Staff awesome. Loved it. Will be back :)
G. T.
Certainly a far cry from the old Salamander Shores but, the food is really nothing to rave over. I have eaten here several times and would rate all Resturants as a 3. Their wines are way over priced and service is slow. Hope they improve and get it right.
T. M.
I am a member of the Accor advantage group and had wanted a pleasant weekend away for a friend's birthday. A full breakfast was part of our deal and overall provided good value for money. Top location on Port Stephens. Our thanks to all who helped make our stay so memorable.
P. T.
Paradise in Port Stephens. Should definitely check this place for great location and services.
K. F.
We were there last week to celebrate our anniversary, we ate at Rick Stein’s restaurant and the service and food was excellent. The room was very comfortable. We would definitely go back there again
Z. C.
Beautiful venue and very attentive and professional staff, some of the best trained I've encountered. Only reason it's not a 5* was, in my opinion, the food just had something missing about it. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty... But it didn't leave me craving to go back.

About 20 minutes from the main strip of Nelson Bay, at Soldiers Point, you will find Bannisters hotel. Bannisters has restored an old retro motel (Salamander) into beautiful boutique accommodation. It is nestled amongst the bush, complete with bird life from the outlook of your balcony as well as amazing water views. The tranquil environment makes it feel nice and secluded and you can certainly be fully relaxed and at peace whilst there. You can talk a short walk out the front of the hotel and stroll along the sand or fish on the jetty.
The hotel accommodation spans four levels, with lift and stair access. Their rooms include the Paper bark, ocean deck or studio rooms and even a penthouse. Rooms are complete with King beds, private balconies, television (with Netflix access), tea and coffee making facilities . There are also family rooms with interconnecting access and even some pet friendly rooms. The décor keeps the character and charm of the previous hotel, rediscovered with on trend styling with earthly tones, crisp white walls, plush cushions, beige cushions and throws and timber chairs. The hotel simply oozes luxury.
As you enter the property, you’re met with welcoming and friendly staff who make the check in easy, and hand you a welcome glass of champagne. Visually, you see a beautifully styled foyer and views of the infinity pool and terrace bar. The surrounds of the infinity pool has a few sun chairs – though you’ll need to be early to gain a prime spot.
In the foyer area, we recommend grabbing a table at the terrace bar, you can order one of their amazing cocktails, coffee or a bar snack or two. In the evening this turns into Julio’s Cantina, with Mexican food such as tacos, and their delicious 600g Asado. We enjoy a few plates and cocktails here.
For other food options, there is also the Cheeky Dog, a gastro style pub with indoor and outdoor seating and a place for a catch up with friends over a round of drinks or two. There’s some pool tables and sports bar as well as TVs, so the guys will love this too. But the standout food venue is the restaurant developed by renowned chef Rick Stein, with a primarily seafood menu, incorporating the freshest of ingredients and thus the menu changes slightly daily. Simple dishes, yet beautiful technique and flavour showcasing the high quality seafood. We have an outstanding grouper, grilled tuna and sides, in addition to the most moist and decadent olive oil chocolate cake with ice cream, paired with a glass of whisky. The space is expansive and the decor is a mix of concrete floors, beautiful timber, brass fittings and a deep blue colour for the banquette seating. Despite the size, service is fast and they deliver an all-round good experience.
The restaurant location also hosts your breakfast, and although hotels cannot do buffets anyone, their breakfast is just as good as a buffet. Staff bring you a huge continental breakfast included in your hotel stay. Deli meats, cheese, a boiled egg, croissants and jam, bread, cereal and a cup of tea or coffee. If you’re hungrier (which wasn’t necessary for us), you can buy a hot breakfast or All Press barista made coffee. They also cater for dietary requirements.
On site there is also Bannisters Spa for a range of luxury treatments to leave you relaxed and rejuvenated. So this hotel really has all you need for a relaxing and sophisticated getaway.

Awesome place!
Beautifully maintained, the friendliest service, fantastic food choices and quality.
And truly pet-friendly!

Amazing resort. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean. Staff are all very helpful
S. l.
Great pool and food. The room was good from far but far from good. Some things could be improved eg. Better appliances and a hole in the sheets but overall pretty good.
D. R.
In need of care and love. The skylights in the bathroom have never been cleaned leaving many webs and spiders to hang around.
Breakfast doesnt get refilled regularly enough.
T. M.
We had to wander around the hotel to find our room after check in with no assistance whatsoever. We had a Spa room with some water views and a balcony in which to enjoy the scene from. I would suggest this hotel if you are looking for a nice location and do not intend to spend much time inside the hotel.
S. S.
We made a visit as we could take the puppy. We found the property to be extremely helpful and perfect for a weekend away.
Consistency of staff service was a little off at times but not too much of a problem.
D. O.
I love this place. The rooms are fresh, there is a variety of restaurants and it is a beautiful setting.
L. M.
We checked into a paper bark room and it was lovely . Unfortunately the next day we arrived back to our room in the afternoon to find jack hammering in the room below us . It wasnt pleasant . The staff handled the situation beautifully and we thank you for making our stay wonderful. Cheers.

Excellent customer service combined with delicious quality meals. Loved the seafood soup. Great ambience.
