Nice part of the town, parking is hard to find but possible. They offer paid parking for 10$ a night (!). Great hostel for longer stays and most people are staying longer. Kitchen is smallish, not enough space for food to store. Beds are comfortable and every bed has two outlets, a lamp and a basket to store your electronics and stuff in while charging, awesome! Can recommend it. Would go again.

I only stayed here for one night but my experience was good. The location is good, close to shops and public transports. Friendly staff, I only met two of the staff members during my stay they were both friendly and welcoming. I booked a bed in a female dorm room on a website, but they gave me a bed in a mixed dorm room. Don't think it was on purpose, I think it was more of an accident, I checked in pretty late so I didn't wanted to complain, mixed dorm room was fine for me too. The dorm room was clean, the bed was comfy and every bed had 2 plug sockets which is great! Other hostels I stayed at had like 2 plug sockets per room lol. Fast WIFI. I'd stay here again.

We've stayed here several times over the last couple of years. We moved to the Blue Mountains but regularly need to stay overnight in Sydney. Billabong Gardens is located in a quiet side street in Newtown. Very convenient, close to the city and in a great area with lots of food options on KIng Street. Parking is inside the building in the garage. It must be booked, so don't forget when making a reservation. The room rates are very reasonable and parking is incredibly cheap compared to other hotels in the city. The rooms are always clean and staff are very friendly. The motel style rooms in the main building have their own bathroom and the rooms in the terrace house next door are with communal bath. We stayed in both and think they are great value for money. Don't expect a formal business hotel, it's more like a guesthouse. A few times they were booked out and we stayed elsewhere. Each time we thought we paid much more for much less. 100% thumbs up for this one!

I stayed there for about two weeks when I arrived in Australia. Really nice place for the price. It was the middle of winter so I couldn't enjoy the pool, but the outside area (which is a patio in the middle of the hostel) is really nice. Staff was polite and professional though not especially friendly or going out of their way to help people. Great if you're looking for cheap clean accomodation in Newtown.

Good for the price and close to the middle of King St Newtown, lots of young backpackers set the tone of this place, we had two adults and a child under 4, the noise was managed and the place generally clean. For good value and convenience you can't go wrong here (winter visit)

Beautiful building, surrounding an open air pool in the yard. The rooms are clean and comfortable, each with an own bathroom. The kitchen has a good size and is clean as well. The location is perfect if you want to stay in Newtown, but otherwise you'll be in the city within 10 minutes if you take the bus. Newtown is a nice part of the city, with excellent night life, café and restaurant offering. The staff is sadly unfriendly, especially the lady at the reception should think about changing her work place, as she is obviously annoyed all the time. They charge you for WIFI It's said it's not a party hostel, well I think it depends on the publicum. When I stayed there, people made a lot of party :)

Spent four nights there and the first 3 nights were brilliant. The staff learnt my name straight away and everyone was really friendly, it was clean and overall I had a good experience. However on my last night when I got to the room my bed had been occupied and my room was all full and the personal towel I left next to my bed had been removed and disappeared. There was no emergency phone where I could call & as it was past midnight no one in reception neither so I had to spend the night in the couch next to the reception despite having paid for a bed. They did apologize and reimbursed me for that night though but I still found shocking and dissaponting they are not responsible for what happens during the night until the day after. Unfortunately I would not go back.

This place is a good place to stay it is a now frills venue with a high percentage of younger guests so things can get a bit noisy at night in the main areas of the building . The rooms are ok my bed was a little hard but for the money it is great value and the staff are friendly and beyond helpful. They have a games room with sofas where you can use the computers to plan out you next day excursion and the staff can give you some really cool local tips of were to go and how to get there . It is located in a really handy and cool area of Sydney and has many local bars and restaurants so it is a great place to stay as there is always something to do locally. There is a really cool café opposite New Town train station that does the most spectacular breakfast , go you will not regret it , it found the food amazing , great value and it is such a cool place to watch the locals pass by ... café Newtown 329 King St, Newtown NSW 2042, Australia

A great place in the heart of Newtown. Fantastic pool surrounded by bbq area and friendly atmosphere. There's a mix of backpackers and private rooms with everything you'd need. Staff are helpful and genuinely interested in making your stay in Australia a great memory. Highly recommended.

It is walking distance to train and bus station. They do not take AMEX and it costs $10 to park. The place isn't sound proof well so if you are a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend this place. This place does have a decent shower, hot water is easily accessible. However, no hair dryer that is easily accessible. The security of the place was good, requiring both a key for room and key card to access the building. There is an outdoor pool that is relatively decent sized. The bed sheets were clean and the doona was warm for the weather. The overall cleansiness of the place was well.

Excellent room and the bathroom. Electric kettle inside, they provide hairdryer on request. Although, one downside is that walls are pretty thin and you can hear your neighbours, and they can hear you.

Just extended my stay for another week. Conveniently located in trendy Newtown, this hostel is suited to backpackers staying for a weekend and those looking for work and don't mind the long term communal living. There are obvious a few rules in place but they keep things fun and safe for everyone!

The staff were really lovely. The bathroom in my room had the best shower I've ever used.The bed linens were clean but smelled of laundry perfume. The sleeping quarters looked and smelled tired. I woke up both mornings with a scratchy throat and puffy eyes. Gum rubbed into carpet, unknown stains on carpet curtains tv artwork ceilings walls. Pretty much a petri dish. Doors slamming all night. People hanging out in the park overnight having loud conversations under my window - the park is a public space so billabong can't help that. It is a backpackers at the end of the day so my expectations weren't high. Unfortunately they should have been lower still.

My friend booked this private room for us and it was in a great location off a quiet lane, there is onsite parking but call ahead first. We stayed in the St Kilda Building there ( ironic as we are from Melbourne) and the rooms are basic but clean and can hardly hear bay street traffic. You have a choice of share dorms or private rooms with or without en suites, and for the extra bit you spend i would opt for an en suite private room. Situated off Egan Street, you are in walking distance of some great cafes and bars, and the train station as well, if you choose to Uber fare into the city is about $10-15 and Taxi is about $25. Check in was easy and efficient and it was very peaceful and quiet, would recommend to travelers looking for a safe, secure and cost savvy accommodation choice as Sydney can be a pricey town to visit. I stayed here during late October with two of my friends and it was fantastic! We stayed in the terrace next door and you can't beat the location and the awesome value for money. Not to mention it didn't feel like a hotel, it felt like home :) I will be returning and I recommend it for anyone looking for a good location at a cheap price!

Very helpful and friendly staff, clean rooms, communal kitchen, nice swimming pool, paid wifi, guest laundry. Just a minute walk away from a variety of shops, bars, grocery stores. Newtown station and Macdonaldtown station only 10 or so minutes away. And just a short walking distance away from The University of Sydney.

Had a good experience there! It was cheaper than other options around, and it was pretty comfortable. Would recommend staying with a closed group of friends instead of a dorm, but that's a personal choice. There are fridges on ensuite rooms, and the kitchen is ok!

Have stayed here for about 3 weeks. Good place. Cheapest place I found in Newtown,Stanmore. Nice staff, especially Max. Young people in the main house with their noise and people in their 30ies in the next building with the courtyard. Laundry possibility not so good. Cheap wifi. I guess everyone has a story with the cleaners, lol. Know the time when they usually arrive and leave the room before the japanese invasion comes !

Hostel for working travellers. Stayed here for first week when arriving in Sydney. Pleasant staff. Stayed in own room upstairs and later in single room in annex. Reasonably clean, room in annex was quite dark and damp (with a few cockroaches). Commom tv room is pleasant. Kitchen with fridge and utensils available. Is quiet at night. Excellent location with restaurants, RPA and Sydney uni at walking distance. Wifi is not free and poor quality. 3 stars as price/quality ok... by Sydney standards!
