B. T.Lunch Sat 26 February. No vaccine requirements, no check in - these guys are doing exactly the same as other venues.
They were super busy, but we were patience. All the staff we saw were busy, but they were friendly but said hello.
There was a wait on our food and beers, but both were delicious and again, we were patience and happy to wait our time. Staff member thanked us for waiting.
We did see a big wedding set up and my partner had a look inside the room as said it looked incredible.
Again, the staff member said hello and smiled, without a mask.
We’ll be back. Might even stay next time.

I will come back the place is light and great atmosphere. I dare say COVID and staffing an issue at the moment. Relaxing venue.

C.Hubby and I spent 3 nights here to celebrate 25 yrs of marriage , I mentioned this over to phone when I made the booking and honestly thought that we would find some champagne on arrival or even a note to wish us a Happy Anniversary considering this place caters for weddings but nothing and I wonder if couples that get married here would be thought of if they were to come back and celebrate future Anniversaries , just something that could be brought to the attention of management as a small gesture goes a long way.
We were told there would be WiFi in house for guests and given a password to connect , we had no service for the whole 3 days and had to step out onto the board walk to get access to the internet or even make a call as mobile data connection was also very poor.
Rooms were clean and views were spectacular and the staff were very friendly and welcoming .
Restaurant food was great and daily entertainment was provided.
Secure parking in the basement was also provided.
Overall we had a lovely stay.

My only issue is when we looked at the menu we noticed the lack of sea food options. Considering this is a beachside restaurant one would think there'd be more sea food options, however the only lone sea food option was the salt and pepper squid as a side, no main, unless you want the sea food on a pizza or in pasta.

M.Well what can I say besides WOW absolutely amazing loved every second of my stay with my husband in our bungalow we went away on the 15th of Feb 2022 for a night stay for our 1 year late honeymoon we got there at 2pm and was greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk who got another lovely lady to check us in we got to our bungalow and it was stunning huge comfortable bed big bath tub massive rainfall shower room everything was perfect we had a beautiful lunch and dinner in the restaurant staff were fantastic they couldn't have made our night any better so polite always smiling they all showed very good work ethic they all know how to make you feel welcome and relaxed in seconds thank yous all for such a special time with yous there and if yous are ever in walcha come and relax with us in our caravan park in walcha Tammy and luke mills

M. M.If you are eating outside watch out for the seagulls. Food is typical pub grub and nothing wonderful. When you look around place looks like it becoming run-down outside but it is by the sea. A bit overrated
m. s.The adults only ocean front bungalows are amazing! We stayed 2 nights and didn't want to leave. So private and relaxing. The huge rain head in the shower was awesome! Loved the bath overlooking the the king bed. The view is picture perfect. Right on the ocean, with no one yelling mum! It was simply amazing. We loved it and highly recommend having a couples only mid week stay. We will be back!

The accessibility ramps are a bit of a maze and not very convenient to get around the complex with a pram. Also the walkways were so dark at night, everyone had to get around with flashlights. Might just be related to recent floods though.
Nice beach, but be careful swimming there. Good for surfing though.

The ocean views and ocean air, the live music, the fact it's dog friendly, has yummy food with a good variety and huge outdoor sitting areas with top notch service every single time, all make it worth while to drive to. Absolutely love this place! Highly rated!!
D. K.Loved this place. The lagoon front adults only bungalows are a peaceful respite. A bit of indulgence with well designed and appointed rooms. Great bar and restaurant. I highly recommend grabbing take away from the restaurant and enjoying it on your private balcony overlooking the lagoon and entertaining bird life. Staff at reception are the loveliest you’ll meet and the bar and restaurant crew are always cheerful and helpful.
B. E.Great getaway. Accommodation was generally clean, however some blinds showed mould spots from windows being left open by guests when raining. Air con also had some mould but due to fans did not need to use it.
Didn't feel the need to report to management as nothing would have been able to be done, and everything else was on point.

T. P.Perfect location. We (8 adults) stayed in a Townhouse Ocean and only wished the upstairs bedroom had a door to separate from the bathroom for more privacy. Other than that, we enjoyed the nice clean place with beautiful Ocean view. Nothing beats a beautiful sunrise on the beach.

N. V.Stayed in a bungalow for a couple of nights as part of a work conference but would make a really good solo, couple or family getaway. Located right on Caves Beach the bungalows are a good size with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There is a full kitchen, fridge, washer / dryer and open plan dining and lounge. Rooms are clean and common areas are nice.
B. B.We have made the trip up to caves beach quite a few times recently mostly for the pub. Such a beautiful place with big tables, plenty of space and beautiful pizzas! Now that they have a playground for the kids It's even better!

A drive out of Sydney about 90 mins and you are in this idyllic place. Swansea beach is long and secluded but with decent currents.
Food menu is exhaustive and caters to vegans/vegetarian options as well as classics.
Special menu on Easter long weekend was wonderful. Amazing servicing time on food orders.
Drinks menu can be expanded although they have nice wine selection. Tried Seabreeze, which was a bit underwhelming.
They can seriously work on their coffee barista....😒
B. H.Work being done on the playground/beer garden area so couldn't get in there. Kids meals were $11 just for the meal, everywhere else you'd get a drink and ice cream for similar price. Beer selection was good though, if a touch on the expensive side and menu looked good and reasonable as well

With mains at $25 to $35 you should be served quality food while our meals were OK nothing was delicious. I would have drinks and chill here but then eat somewhere else

Owners, if your reading this, look up seagull prevention methods like hanging wire around outside to prevent them getting to unattended chips.

N. L.Perfect place for lunch for the whole family after a long day at the beach. Just a few minutes drive up the hill and you will find Caves which has both a hotel and a bistro with outdoor beer tables and a kid's playground all overlooking the stunning beach. Tonnes of seating inside and outside so it's perfect for couples or a big family. We ordered the Tasmanian salmon, chicken schnitzel, Wagyu brisket burger and fish and chips. The salmon was cooked perfectly, skin was so crispy and the salad with a slight chilli dressing really went well with the fish. The chicken schnitzel was also delicious, the panko crumbs made it very crispy to bite into and the chicken was juicy. Kids were playing in the gated playground outside so the adults could have a moment of peace to enjoy their meals. Will definitely come back again maybe in the afternoon to have some drinks at the bar tables outside which have a stunning view of the water.

E.Pub food with luxury prices. Poor quality steak, green beans are ok and chicken wings and sauce are fine but you can make the same or better at home. The coke was flat. Get a beer, enjoy the view. Don't recommend eating there.

A. B.Although it outpriced my budget, I have no regrets in having stayed there for a night. Super comfy bungalow, really large and very well equipped. Location is awesome. I loved the bar atmosphere too. Just didn't like the pizza too much, but was not bad either, just a bit more smoked than I'd usually have it. I even ordered it again for lunch the next day. :) I will be happy to return to this place, hopefully for a longer stay.

J. M.First hic up lost our booking told you don't have one till we showed the conformation email we recieved. Then told oh well you'll just have sit outside (with 2elderly family members on a hot day)no not happening or put up with what ever I find. Sat at one table for 6 when there are 8 of us. No finally given another table. Then half way through our meal we received a phone call from the veue why hadn't we turned up yet. Other than first problem meal was fine.

Bungalows are good but can be hit and miss as they are privately owned but maintained by caves coastal bar, overall it's good and comfortable a step above a holiday park cottage but not 5* or anything like that. Service is fine but it is a bar/restaurant first and accommodation second so don't expect anything flash service wise saying that everyone is friendly and we had a good few nights there... Caves Beach is lovely and definitely a great spot in and around Lake Macquarie...

M. D.Initially walking in it's a nice, light filled area, however it feels cluttered and disorderly with the random furnishings. We would have like to sit on the deck, but with the wind and the fire pits it wasn't worth the smoke to enjoy the beautiful day. The lady who served us was quiet and disinterested and gave the vibe she didn't want to be there one bit. While the total on the till came to $63.20, she charged us 64.20. It's a dollar, not a big deal, but only found out about it after my partner returned having paid. We then waited at least half an hour for our food in the mean time only watching two or three dishes leave the kitchen. It wasn't a busy day either. Once the food came however, it was very good. Another positive was a large selection of beers on tap. Overall, it's this is the kind of place that will attract locals but isn't a place to drive from town out of your way for.

The food was average pub food but the steak was cooked perfectly. Decor looks worn and there is a lot of dust. 3 stars for the steak. Won't return to eat.

The only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is that they have a pokies area, which means some people are going to get very hurt here.

D. A. (.For our Birthday (my Partner and Myself) our friends booked a cabin/Villa/house for us all to stay in and have a relaxing weekend.
Over looking the water, the scenery was absolutely beautiful. The house itself was well maintained and decorated.
I had a wonderful time, it was peaceful and the beach was close enough for a stroll.
Would 110% come back.
Food at Caves Pub/Hotel was a short walk away and it was delicious.
L. G.We had our wedding reception at Caves and it was excellent!! Amy was such a joy to work with, she was helpful, efficient and nothing was too big a problem. Any questions I had were answered with an upbeat, can-do attitude. We had our taste test and got to speak briefly to the chefs, the food was excellent! On the actual wedding day, Amy was on leave but Julia, who took her place, was wonderful as well. She was super friendly, bubbly and kind. Liz, who was the maitre d was very good at keeping us informed and up to date and she was very warm and welcoming which was much appreciated given the potential stress of a wedding day.
The hotel has recently been done up and looks stunning, we had our reception in the Nautilus room and I couldn't have pictured it any better than it was.
The food was lovely, the service was great and overall, I couldn't have been happier! I would definitely recommend Caves to any brides out there!
A. T.Great accommodation overlooking the beautiful beach. Comfortable with all the necessities however the microwave broke (but was promptly replaced, thanks!) and air mattress/beds were a bit unsupportive leading to sore backs for a few guests. The lake (aka swamp) was a bit neglected and could use a good clean. Overall was very good, even went to the pool a few times! (Over the beach). Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
Bar/bistro served tasty meals, however the staff were unhelpful, inflexible and had poor customer service. They felt it was worth arguing over vegetables when I was happy to pay money for it as an upgrade over salad as per the menu. Child’s play area needs an upgrade due to uneven flooring, broken playground equipment and safety enclosure gate not locking. Ultimately, even the good food could not compensate for the poor service which affected the overall night (this was my second dinner eating here and surely last).
I. M.Our family attended a wedding reception in the air conditioned function room on a Sunday evening. One hundred guests were accommodated easily. Bar facilities were available. Both the public address system and room lighting had good coverage.The food was timely, well cooked and presented . The staff catered for special dietary needs promptly. A very pleasant, enjoyable and fun evening was had overall.
S.A gorgeous location rain hail or shine - the decor is so relaxing and well thought out.
Bistro has a few vegan options, I’d love to see a few more but there is a warm cauliflower salad, and the usual chips ect but these veggie chips were something different and so tasty! Also their side salad is actually delicious!!
The lemon lime bitters was pink and so delish, reasonable prices too considering the location and quality

M. B.All the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was beautiful (water views), the bed was comfortable and the food was great. We stayed two nights in a beachside bungalow and had three meals in the bistro. I ate a pulled pork burger, wood fired pizza and a steak, which were all high quality and cooked to perfection. The only improvement needed was the pepper gravy. It was watery an anemic. Fortunately I discovered this by dipping a chip into the little gravy cup and did not pour it onto the perfect steak.

D. A.Food and drinks are perhaps a little pricey. However considering the location and modern facilities I kind of understand. Had the beef burger on first visit. Not terrible, but not amazing if you're a burger fiend like me. Second visit I went for the chicken parmy and it was the best I've ever had. Friends/family had pizza which looked good and they said it tasted great. Staff were friendly and helpful. If you're in Caves or Swansea, there's not many more picturesque spots for a tasty meal and drinks

Food was good (think upmarket pub meal) great atmosphere. We loved our stay there. Most definitely love to come back and stay longer.

Tucker very good but only had 3 Gluten Free dishes (maybe 4) and as I'm a severe Coeliac, I didn't have a lot of choice. That was a bit disappointing. H. M.The food was good and the location was great. The let down was to do with the service time for food.
We had three separate orders in our group, placed one immediately after the other. The first food order arrived quite quickly, however there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for the next order to arrive. Long enough for their dinner to be finished before the next round of mains to arrive. The third order of mains took at least another 30 minutes to arrive giving nearly an hour between when the first main meal arrived to the last.
We attempted to place all the meals on the same order but we were told it was too late to do that.
The restaurant was fairly busy, and having different orders to the same table will always cause meals to arrive at different times, however the wait was fairly excessive, especially when we only had a table for 2 hours.
A. D.It looks like this place as a venue and Caves Beach is poised to explode. The bar restaurant caters for the locals who tend to hang in the bar / TAB area whilst visitors make the most of the large dining areas inside and out.
The menu is simple but good catering for most people including kids.
Is it expensive? I guess if you live outside of Sydney it is expensive but not crazy. Certainly in keeping with city prices.
There is an enclosed outdoor area with bouncy castle for kids in Summer.
Specials on all the time.
Back is 300 metres away.
Great venue for celebrations, weddings, day trips, and has great accommodation as part of the complex from intimate bungalows to beach houses.
Great location, great beaches, new cafes long up in area.

B.Very busy and noisy as you would expect on a sunny Sunday lunchtime, but wait time for food didn't exceed expectations considering the crowd, and food was surprisingly good, as was the young duo providing live music. System of table service for food delivery was chaotic with wait staff wandering around the large area looking for numbers rather than knowing exactly where food orders needed to go.....it was fairly entertaining to watch but not very efficient.
L. A.We stayed here for my friends wedding. Lovely location but bungalows need to be cleaned properly. There were spider webs on the outside windows. Sand and dirt on the stairs and marks all over the walls. This bungalow was being used for the wedding party so photos were being taken here for the prep. I think they are so desensitized to having weddings here they have got slack.
K. R.Lovely location and nice food. There was a problem with the order that resulted in our order not going through so we haf a very long wait for our food. Not great when you're there with young kids. To their credit they were very apologetic about the issue and the manager even personally came out to sincerely apologise, and provided vouchers for drinks and ice cream for the kids. Other staff were equally friendly so despite the mix up I'd have no hesitation recommending having a meal here. Afterwards we also watched several whales off the coast.

Our room was fantastic and the outdoor setting was fantastic for relaxing with a nice glass of bubbly. Food at the Hotel was good and reasonably priced and an IGA is close by if you need to stock up on a few afternoon snacks. We will definitely be back again to recharge. Great Place.

The venue was stunning and accommodating. Pricing is a little expensive and inflexible but I'd say it's worth the spend (again this is probably bias). The wait staff were friendly and well organised for the most part - I did have to ask twice for my groomsmen to be served drinks - but otherwise, they were great! I only have one complaint regarding my wedding cake; the leftover tier went "missing". We were told before the end of the night that it had been saved and left in the fridge for us to collect the following morning but it was nowhere to be found by then. Irrespective of this event, Caves Beach is a tranquil destination and an amazing place to explore, particularly with your fury companion. Throw in an affordable place to sit, dine and drink and you can't really go wrong.

We booked a table 1 week in advance. When we got there a group of men were sitting at our table that had our name with reservation time. We informed staff we had arrived and that a group had taken our table. We were asked to sit on the couches while they organised something. They didn't ask the men to move even though they didnt have a reservation and we ended up stuck on couches instead of dining. We then got 2 meals quick and cold and the other 2 meals 20 minutes later and cold also. Very disappointing and considering our meals were all around the $30 mark we expect no less then to receive hot meals let alone a table that we reserved.

I. A.I stumbled upon. Caves purely by accident and am very glad I did. Being lunch time, I had the delicious roasted pumpkin salad. That left enough room to indulge in gelato for dessert. There's much to look around at while waiting for food orders to arrive, but service is very speedy, so I saved some sightseeing until after eating. Order at the bar. (Sadly, Caves doesn't open for breakfast )

However I would like to register a complaint re your mother’s day organization.
I was told , not necessary to book… plenty of space .. I had 20 guests I said, no problem I was told.
We arrived as did so many others at around 11.30 to chaos.. with presents, flowers and grandchildren and elderly mothers in tow to enjoy a family mother’s day lunch.
Many left, many were visibly upset.. I talked with many and they all said they were told “no need to book”
I made my enquiry in plenty of time , and could of booked another venue. But I had fond memories of another mother’s day lunch and I wanted to repeat that.
You should take bookings, as disappointed was the key theme of many of your patrons mother’s day… they won’t be back
We ended up in your front function room, and in all for us it was a great place, relatively empty, loads of room and for that I am grateful. so that was a plus.. although we sat at a bar.
It took so long for the food to come , hours in fact, and my 87 year old mother , who has had a brain aneurism , and is not at all well sat with us.. she was indeed not well at the end of the wait, and could not even eat all of her favorite food in this world, her fish and chips.
We were over being hungry by this time. No criticism of your kitchen I think they did an amazing job considering the stress you placed on them and the food was delicious.
On a staff issue, one of the waitresses was extremely rude to my son, when delivering the meals, he was trying to help her, she was abrupt and disgruntled.. he tried again to help her and get the meals to the correct person and was rebuffed.. he did ask her nicely and smiled.. her attitude was uncalled for and very unprofessional for an establishment that is trying to promote family and a higher class venue..
I know it would have been a trying day for all involved, but if I were managing a resort/hotel business….. staff attitude and numbers would be a priority.
So you see, big disappointment for us and we will not be going anywhere where we cannot book next year..as we have a big family and wanted a great place to celebrate..
If we could reserve your function room .. now that’s a thought..

Unfortunately the knew renovations have detracted from the beach-themed lifestyle that encompasses a residency in caves beach. The Zulu look is an eye sore and totally uncharacteristic of the area it's situated in. Sadly it's a step away from it's grassroots and history.
As a regular patron, I have seen some great local rock bands, excellent family events and above average meals. The food doesn't get 5 stars but it doesn't get a bad rating either, it's upscaled / very filling pub food and it's all I need. I haven't had a bad meal here.
They have a big kids rooms with gaming machines, toys and closed doors. Its positioned right next to the bistro.
Bar and kitchen Staff are very nice and aren't afraid to spark up a conversation, the courtesy bus driver is very patient and the security staff are traditional doormen (well manner and personal)
The accommodation is of a high standard and cannot be given a fault. No room service isn't an issue for me, as it wasn't promised and it's not what I needed.
The beers are always diverse and they offer a huge selection of your average local pub beers with a few award winning additions, for an alternate selection.
The view of the beach from almost every angle of the bistro and out deck is deserving of the location.
