E. R.It was a great experience staying at this hostel, people very nice, staff very kind and servicial, clean place (bathrooms and kitchen). There is an entertainment room where there is a big TV, a lot of books, movies and boardgames, there is also a ping pong table. The location is perfect for everything, either by walking or taking the train. I would get back definitely.
C. G.I’ve stayed 3 nights at this place to visit Sydney. My plane landed at around 11:30 so I arrived to the hostel at around 12:15 and it was a real pain to get someone at the front office. Their front office is closed between 12 pm and 5 pm from what I remember, 4 phone numbers were written on the door if no one would be there and 3 out of 4 numbers didn’t answer. One last number answered and the guy couldn’t do anything because he was in Brisbane. We finally got someone after waiting 25-30 mins (2 other persons were with me).
I was meant to be in a 8 beds dorm for girls and I just ended up in a 4 beds dorm which was alright. Pretty clean, mini fridge, locks and heater available. The plug was almost broken though. I was given some tableware and my coffee cup was still dirty (big coffee stain it seemed). Also, that’d be nice to get an extra blanket during winter. The bathroom was perfectly clean, got hot water with no problem. I really didn’t stay much at the place as I was leaving in the morning at 6 and coming back at 9 pm. So yeah globally it wasn’t too bad for a 3 nights stay.

M. v. P.The Original Backpackers residence is a great place for our typical low-budget backpackers. One thing I noticed straight away is the great vibe and positive atmosphere all around. The rooms themselves might not be the best in class, but we're in a low-budget backpackers environment!
There is a shared kitchen and an outdoor 'chill area'. This place is highly recommended for individual backpackers, as it is an ideal setting to meet like-minded travelers.
I stayed here as a couple - with my girlfriend and enjoyed this stay as well. We had a single room, which is equiped with a fridge and a great shower.
As for the noise: The hostel is definitely working on this, as there were a lot of signs everywhere, warning the guests to keep the noise down during the nights. This actually happened, as it was very quiet during the nights. Only thing we did notice was the smell of weed every now and then, but that's about it. Would highly recommend! (Not the smell of weed, but this hostel)
T. M. e.Such a wonderful hostel. The staff are super helpful and welcoming. There’s a real homely vibe. They offer beautiful dinner three nights a week and yummy pancakes on Sunday morning.
The location is ideal in the heart of kings cross. I would highly recommend original backpackers.

A. S.It was an awesome stay at the Original Backpackers! You can chill in the courtyard, make a BBQ with your friends or hang out. I was in a 8 bed dorm and the room was very nice. Also the people in the hostel are friendly and make the time unforgettable. The toilets, shower and also the kitchen are really clean. 24/7 is someone at the reception.

B. S.Had a really great time staying at the Original Backpackers. The price was really affordable and much better then most other places we saw around Sydney, it was clean and well organized. The location was awesome, super close to everything - you’ll save money being able to walk to anywhere in the city centre. The staff were lovely, Brain and Mark (owner and son) made myself and my partner feel totally at home giving us great tips and telling us some excellent stories. The bed in our room was really comfortable, we where pleasantly surprised that we had our own bathroom (private double room) as normally we find in backpackers (even with a private room) theres a shared bathroom. There are lots of little nooks and crannies around that keep the place interesting and personable, the place has a overall friendly and pleasant feel.
Would highly recommend to anyone who’s looking for a good location, character and a welcoming place to crash.
M. A.I stayed in the Private room over New Year’s (10 days). It was so affordable, less than half what I would of paid in any hotel. It was the best time of my life and I’ll be back again, it’s the perfect location for enjoying Sydney. This hostel is great, clean, friendly staff. The private room was modern, spacious, had its own private bathroom, TV, tea and coffee, lock up safe. They gave us complimentary champagne and chocolates for New Year’s Eve. Amazing!!!
C. W.Overall very nice hostel! Clean, good location, large kitchen, quirky building, laundry, comfortable, social activities put on every day for guests and mostly quiet at night.
Only downsides we experienced (private room) was the super squeaky bed which woke us up a lot, the gang of parrots that were having a party (or bust up) outside our bedroom window every morning around 6am (not the hostel's fault of course) and finally, despite the sign that says "no noise after 10pm" in the courtyard below, some dude was leaf blowing very loudly or vacuuming the pavement or whatever he was doing at 11pm for ages on our final night which was really annoying.
So minimal negative things really.
Would stay here again and would recommend it to others!

e. g.Excellent backpackers hostel. You’ll feel welcome and it is a fun home away from home! Situated in the best part of the city of Sydney, which makes it so easy to travel around, we can get to a lot of places in a short walking.
a. t.It is a nice, clean and friendly hostel with the best professional staff. They helped me with everything, either concerning my trip or my personal stuff. Lots of other travellers staying their so it was social and fun.
G. M.Such the gentleman. Best location. Courtyard is very social. Very clean. Heaters and fans in room. It is like I have the skill at picking the best. Table tennis competitions are packed (with free pizza. $2 to compete). Free net. Great kitchen. Lots of sun. Toilet paper could be better, I am very picky about that, 3 ply please :) Staff very happy and happy to provide anything you need. This is the place. You can drink alcohol :D yessah!

Yes I saw some cockroaches outside but none in the rooms or in the building (cockroaches means no spiders) I showered there and it was very clean, plenty of washrooms/toilets never had to wait. Linen was clean and beds comfortable. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm and there was only 4 other people and one of then was my friend who I was traveling with. I was honestly sceptical after reading some of the bad reviews on here, but once I got here I felt better about the conditions. It's close to heaps of cafes, bars etc. 58AUD for 2 people overnight is pretty damn cheap, what do you expect?
C. K.The hostel is quite big and there are many travellers. The hostel is clean and the breakfast in the large kitchen is perfect. But there is not enough equipment in the kitchen. And the wifi is quite slow. You can't download any musics or films. The room are clean but you need to prepare your bed by yourself. It's a bit annoying to take your own plates and cuttlery each time from your room to the kitchen and back. The stuff is gentle and friendly. The guests are more than relaxed.
T. H.My first hostel I've been to here in Australia, good food and some nice clubs/pubs close by, 1 minute walk to kings cross train station. The best part are the other backpackers you'll meet while staying at this hostel. Everyone is really nice and welcoming, especially the backpackers that work for the hostel (Sarah is the best)!

P. e.I've stayed at a ton of hostels and this place was mediocre. The ensuite room was good value and staff tried hard to keep common areas quiet after hours, but nevertheless there was a lot of noise, mostly from the laundry, but also from doors being slammed, drunken shouting and arguing by the mostly French backpackers. The facilities were kept as clean as possible but the whole place feels scuffed up worn out, and needs some love. free breakfast is cornflakes and rice Krispies, a few jams, and toast, powdered coffee and tea. The internet barely worked most of the time. Backpackers were fairly aloof, somewhat rude, and not interested in making friends. Staff ranged from v friendly (older man at reception was very nice) to aloof. I wouldn't stay again I don't think.

1/2 gig of Internet(data usage) each day you book, basically free because it's included in your price. And, if you are booking a multiple bed room, each person in the room gets 1/2 gig of Internet per day.
E. G. L.24h reception, really handy for me as I had a late flight into Sydney. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, I've been upgraded form my initial 8 bed dorm booking for the same price. Busy place, good value for money for Sydney, large kitchen, but somehow I couldn't find any cutlery. Would stay there again.
R. R.I would give it 3.5. I got a double room with private bathroom (no. 43). Pretty uncomfortable squeaky bed which I also cut myself on. Our room was a shed extension kind of thing and noisy during the torrential rain that we experienced that night.
However it's close to Kings Cross station and we were allowed to drop our bags off much earlier than check in and then allowed to check in at 1130 after a long overnight flight without much sleep.
Not the worse hostel I've stayed in but I'm sure there are better ones in Sydney.

My room was facing the front and the window had to be kept open at night because of poor fans, meaning a lot of noise from drunk people at 2am. Very bad WiFi connection. A really good common room though with Netflix. Free breakfast was packed away VERY quickly and wasn't as nice as others I've had.

Internet muito fraca no meu quarto. Para funcionar bem precisamos ficar mais na área comum, perto da administração. Cama, travesseiros, lençóis, toalhas, edredon, tudo limpinho e confortavel... Mas tivemos a "visita" de 2 baratinhas. Mas, tenho que dar Nota10 ao sr. Greg, que nos ajudou muito e foi super simpático!

受付のスタッフさんは親切に応対してくれたお。部屋は8人部屋でも広々としてたお。ただ鍵をかけれるロッカーが小さめでバックパック入れられるところがなかったお。あと二段ベッドの上だとコンセントが近くにないので充電に困るお。wifiはちょっと遅めだお。キッチンは広くて使いやすいお。瞬間湯沸かし器もあるのでお湯作る手間が省けるお。シャワールームは広くて割と綺麗だったお。温度の調整もしやすくって快適だお(＾ω＾)

Vécu ici pendant 2 mois en 2011, de retour pour quelques jours en 2018, cet auberge a gardé son charme, une pensée à Bruce le gérant et Maria la patronne du ménage qui sont adorables ! Petit déjeuner le matin avec juste ce qu'il faut, tartines toaster confiture céréales lait . Très bien placé, 10 min du jardin Royal, 15 de l'Opéra, proche métro.
