S.Amazing food and interesting menu; definitely more than just your average pub feed! Beautiful view from the beer garden which is right next to the Clarence River. Stayed overnight in one of their rooms. Clean, well kept, and comfortable beds with nice linen. One of the best pub stays that we've experienced.

A.Such a great place! Lovely friendly staff, beautifully prepared and presented food. These guys even made kale apppealing! We had port ribs with honemade coleslaw and candied jalapeños (very special), scallops (perfectly prepared) with a super tasty Thai green apple salad and amazing desserts too. We will definitely be back. Hidden gem on the Clarence.

V. R.We had drinks and dinner in the bar as the dining room was fully booked. The staff were very friendly and the Yamba Prawn pizza and the spring rolls were delicious. We bought $10 worth of meat raffle tickets ( you get a free beer when you buy $10 worth) and won a meat tray! We watched the footy and had a great night.

A.A lovely hotel to stay for the night on the bank of the river. Nicely done up, clean rooms and restaurant with great food and service. The only thing to note is that there's no breakfast or tea making facilities. Cafe opens at 11.

A. L.This pub is nestled in a really beautiful location on the Clarence River, south of Grafton. I didn't have time to have a meal, but it's got a very big restaurant overlooking the river. Not far from the freeway either and worth while for a stop over.
It also has the most unique urinal I've ever seen at any hotel. I took a quick picture of it loz. They're actually beer kegs cut out

If you don't like shared bathrooms this place isnt for you. Thursday nite steak or snity for 15 bucks with a complimentary schooner of coopers.

Really enjoyed it, well worth a visit.

M. H.Meals here are quick and delicious. Right on the waterfront catered to the ANZAC service flow off. And we could not complain. Beautiful fish and chips. I cannot eat much but enjoyed the fish immensely. Chips were cooked perfectly with a crisp outside and a soft interior. Served with ample sides to dip into. Simple meal but yet it's great wholesome food.
Recommend this as a stop if on a trip. Well worth the check out.

Wonderful atmosphere watching the Clarence River slowly glide past, the antics of the Ibis and the ever hopeful Water Dragons waiting for some tid bits. No we didn't feed them although the temptation is great. Generous serves of slightly upmarket pub food. Very yummy. Definitely worth a visit
S. M.Decent but a bit overpriced restaurant. Book as it seems to be busy every time we go. Definitely try some cake. We had chocolate torte and lemon myrtle cheese cake. Both superb.
Excellent value accommodation. Can't believe how comfy the beds and pillows were. Better than I've had in much more expensive places. There's a few minor issues (no curtains on a couple of windows and can get noisy depending on the crowd), but for the price you won't beat it.

C. D.We had breakfast at the hotel's Clarence cafe and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and we appreciated the bottles of cold water and the clean toilets. The view is wonderful out across the Clarence River. However, it was noticeable that the hotel exterior, the cafe and the garden are due for a freshen up.
R. T.We needed somewhere decent priced with late check in and these guys were more than accommodating. The rooms were clean so were the amenities. The free continental breaky in the morning was awesome! Thanks guys and we will definitely be stopping in next time we need a bed for the night.
S. M.We slept over at the hotel for one night. The showers were good, the room was clean and tidy, the balcony is a shared balcony so you need to make sure your door is locked. My brother had trouble sleeping on his single bed as it was ‘too rigid’, but what can you expect from an old pub in a country town. To summarise, it’s a cute little place to stay for a couple of nights while you’re coming through Ulmarra.

Great coffee, scones, muffins,read the paper in gorgeous surroundings right next to the lovely Clarence River - during the day- BUT at night the cafe turns into a restaurant which is so noisy you cannot hear yourself think. We have been twice and have had to leave both times as we can't stand the noise.

Wow. Came in very late after loooong ride. Best accommodation between here and Cairns. Woke up to a beautiful old world pub in pretty location with great facilities. Very clean and in immaculate condition. Well done to owners and staff.

J. B.This is my 'local' and I always feel at home here. Dane and the crew do a fab job in the restaurant and you can't beat the relaxing vibe of the Clarence. The coffee is amongst the best on the North Coast too. Drop in and you won't be disappointed. You might need to book a table on public holidays etc.

C. B.Awesome as a spot to stop for a break driving up/down the coast! Yummy food, good coffee, awesome outlook over the rive, clean facilities including baby change table and a big great lawn for the kids to stretch their legs. We have stopped here regularly over the past 4 years.
R. M.It was okay for a hole in the wall. Bed was hard, squeaky, and zero padding. Showers were good size, but communal. The door frams to the showers are staring to come apart because they're simple wood frames, and not treated wood to withstand the moisture. The soap leaves a residue on the skin, but it is easily removed with shampoo if you really cannot stand it. Breakfast had not started before I left, but it is just cereals, juice, and toast, and was included u the cost of the room. Sadly, I was not able to eat dinner there, but they did have several people eating out on the patio and a few take-away orders finishing up when I arrived.

C. M.It never ceases to amaze me just how good the pub at Ulmarra is. Set of the mighty Clarence, this historical building houses a wonderful pub and cafe. The setting is enough to pull a traveller in for a cold refreshment, but it’s quality of the food that always surprises. Most other venues you return to don’t live up to expectation, the Cafe Clarence exceeds expectation every time. Get around it.

R. N.One of my highlights on a roadtrip from Sydney to Brisbane. Don't let the rustic front deter you for the river view behind this is stunning and tranquil. It reminded me of parts of Amstel river. Stop there for lunch on a nice day...

R. C.I came to this place via jet ski from Yamba along the Clarence River. A fantastic place to stop your vessel at the adjacent pontoon for refreshments. I experienced coffee and breakfast which was excellent before heading back to Yamba. Great stop!

V. X.I stayed here in preference to Grafton. It's an old building with simple old furnishings however the bed etc was immaculate as were the bathrooms. The noise from the pub closed down quite early, so I got a good night's sleep. I couldn't have an open window with decent security as the only "windows" were french doors, but as there were no ceiling fans I put up with sleeping with the french door open. There wasn't a guest kitchen as such, but there was a continental breakfast included which was laid out in the bistro downstairs. Would have been fine but a bloke insisted in noisily vacuuming around me while I was breakfasting. Still good value for a cheap overnight however. NB the pub meals are NOT cheap as they are apparently banking on being the only place open in Ulmarra for dinner. So recommended with reservations.
