Looks can be deceiving! My wife and I were meandering down the streets of Double Bay one hot Saturday afternoon and we thought it would be a great time for an ice cream. After looking for a local place we found French Riviera. From the outside it looks like a store from the eighties but we took a chance! And we were so glad we did. The ice cream took me back to my childhood, delicious, well portioned but doesn’t leave a sick aftertaste. I find some of the chain gelato and ice cream places do! On top of this, really well priced and the owner was the cutest guy ever! He may have been the owner but even if he wasn’t his generosity and warmth were evident. I rarely write such long reviews but this was such a fantastic find I had to let the world know. We can’t wait for our next visit to this French Riviera ❤️

Stumbled across this little shop in an alley way, the owner was extremely kind and welcoming. We had asked to try 2 flavours before making a decision and he gave a generous amount. He gave both of us an extra flavour to try with our purchase and gave 2 scoops of each flavour for both of us and it was only $10. HIGHLY RECOMMEND his service was 10/10 and the ice cream was even better !!!

Sydney is packed with great ice cream and gelato places, but this is definitely one of my favourites! The ice creams here are so yummy, they have flavours like Tim Tam, Mars, hazelnut and lots of other classic flavours (choc, vanilla, mango sorbets etc). And most importantly: the owner is generous and super friendly! This place is legendary!!

Recently moved to double and discovered this super cute place. Got a take away box last night with bf already finished this morning (had it for breakie 😄) price is really good for the portion The lovely gentleman running the shop gave us an extra flavour and completely filled the box and I got to try rum and raisin turn out to be my favourite 🤤 Ice cream tastes so fresh not like any other ice cream I’ve had. Super yummy but light and refreshing I don’t worry about putting on weight eating 😊 can’t wait to go back today and we want to get a box each so that we don’t have to share 😁

A little bit of nostalgic experience here. Used to go here back in uni days, about 10+ years ago and they were a really great place, buzzing with people and great stacked ice creams. And I remembered that the ice cream was great and delicious. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case nowadays, still good ice cream, but there are plenty of better competitions lately. The owner is still very friendly and energetic. Will still come back for the nostalgic value.

Wonderful old-fashioned French ice-creamery. Not too heavy or too sweet and wonderful flavours. My personal favourites are the mango sorbet & lemon sorbet. Though all of the flavours are wonderful. They're all made in-house by a wonderful old French man who's been running the business for almost forty years.

We drive over 30km to go get ice-cream from this place, which goes to show how good they are! In their golden days, they opened till late at night and loads of teenagers (school and uni) would queue up outside. Quality of ice-cream has been consistently amazing and the same owner still runs the shop. They use only natural ingredients and our whole family loves their ice-cream! Highly recommend.

The owner is so lovely, you pick a flavour and he always offers to add scoops of another flavour to try. The ice cream is very light and not as rich as some places, and sometimes that's that's exactly what you need!

Great place for ice cream made by the owner doing business for almost 40 yrs. I have been a great loyal customer for close to 30 years and still enjoying the good old same taste. Highly recommend 6 scoops or 8 scoops by bowl which will serve enough for a family. You can mix up different flavours at your choice.

Fantastic ice cream - original and fresh. And John-Paul (sp) is literally the loveliest restaurant owner I've ever met - he was so nice to me and my friend, told us all about the different ice creams and even let us sample some as it was a bit quiet. I've been going there for decades - such an honest place to go. We've had lots of great memories there with some amazingly different tasting ice cream. The real deal. I can't recommend this place highly enough! I always feel warm there.

The kindest man in the world. My son ordered 1 scoop of Tim Tam, he gave him a generous taste spoon first, then filled the cup with 2 larges scoops and then gave him a taste of another flavour and added a scoop of that...all for $5! We will be back! :)

Hands down the best ice cream in Australia that is handmade in store. Forget all the fancy flavours being peddled out at some shops in Bondi that are sickly sweet and where you queue up for 20 minutes to be served by some trendy rude muppet. Here you are served by the same gentleman who makes the ice cream. This is Double Bay’s greatest little gem.

Best Ice Cream / Sorbets...yumm! If you are looking to have the big jumbo size of ice cream that they use to have or any other type of serving in bowls etc, they no longer do that, they only do takeaway now. If you haven't try, I highly recommended this place.

Used to frequent when I was living in Woollahra but never fail to pay a visit back when in the area. Jean-Paul remembers me and it was good to see him serving such velvety gelato with marvellous flavours and generous amounts. My favourites include French Vanilla, all nut and fruit flavoured gelato/sorbets. Would have liked to order a big bowl as I’ve seen served today with other customers (10+scoops) alas there’s only one of me. Jean-Paul always gives a complimentary extra flavour so two scoops goes a long way to satisfying my gelato cravings.
