As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent setting, Sitting in any table you have a wonderful view of the workshop-like kitchen where you can see the chef cooking and the ”pizzaiolo” making pizzas. The menu offers a wide variety of starters, pizzas, pastas, dessert and everyone be satisfied. I had the white tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and sausages which is very tasty, and I had an amazing pizza with very good taste, cooked perfect and with a fantastic presentation. If you come you need absolutely to try their cannoli, pannacotta and tiramisù which are the perfect dessert after an excellent dinner, all again freshly home made.To finish my dinner I tried their coffee martini which is a perfect combination of a good espresso mixed with the particular flavour of the Martini which was exquisite!!! All the products were fresh and the dishes are all home-made. The chefs takes great care in selecting the best quality ingredients. The restaurant also caters for all tastes by providing a large selection of the best wines of the region and of course from Italy too! the owner and all the amazing staff is always around willing to exchange some kind words with all her clients, smiling and make you feel being home. I had a pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavours. For this reason I highly recommend going to this restaurant!!

Birichino has some of the best authentic style pizzas I've ever had. Their Tartufo and Babbo pizzas are definitely the two best in my opinion, with the Tartufo being my absolute favourite - an earthy and umami delight with buffalo mozzarella to bring a well rounded balance of flavours together. Their homemade gnocchi is fluffy and delicious, with my favourite being the four cheese - the ragu sauce needs a touch more of salt (and maybe some porcini mushrooms). These dishes are best shared as flavours can become overwhelming if an entire dish is eaten to one person.

This is becoming one of my favourite italian restaurants in Melbourne! The pasta and pizza are beyond delicious - I love the pasta so much that I am craving it right now. It has a nice atmosphere and people are so nice there - excellent service. I would definitely come back here again and again. Food is also relatively cheaper compared to other italian restaurants, but the quality is not compromised. LOVE!

Probably my favourite restaurant on the street, but among the more expensive. Very authentic Italian pizza restaurant, featuring DOC ingredients and traditional Italian cocktails (highly recommend). A challenger for D.O.C. Carlton and makes a great night out. At least 2 or more vegetarian pizzas. Gets a little crowded inside as it is very popular but quite small. Tables are small but at least it makes for an intimate dinner. A must try for a special occasion or a classy date.

Great Italian food - I believe we ordered a few pizzas and some cheese. The prices are a bit pricey, leaning on the expensive side, but the quality of the food makes it up. Staff are friendly and service is reasonable, only problem is the place is quite small so it is hard to move around, and occasionally you brush past the sides of people.

The Tartufo and Babo pizzas are my favourite, reminds me of NSP on it's hey day. Real flavoursome woodfired pizza base and fresh Italian toppings. Awsome, the gnocchi is so light and fluffy, love it. The Ragu sauce is very good, but not as good my mother's, sorry guys, real ragu needs to be slow cooked with bones, meats, meat fat, wine, garlic, more garlic, chilli, etc etc..

Been dining at Birichino since it launched. Not sure if it’s changed hands or not but I will never be going back. The food used to be some of the best Italian in the eastern suburbs. I would now rate it a 1/10. The olives, which used to be baked in numerous herbs, are now a few olives that are out of a jar with a couple of rocket leaves, at a cost of $11. All of the entrees we had were flavorless and tiny. The cauliflower, priced at $15 came with 3 tiny stems coated in a thick & fatty batter. The caprese salad, for $14 came with 3 slices of powdery tomato. To finish off, the Arancini balls we ordered for entree, arrived after our mains had been cleared and just before desert. Management did not apologize or remove the item from the bill.

This little Italian place in Balwyn is the real deal. Authentic pizza. In fact my family and I have just had a holiday in Italy and we all agreed that the pizza at Birichino is better than any of the 10 pizza's we had in Italy! Plenty of other dishes to choose from including home made pastas. Staff are very Italian and sometimes difficult to understand, especially on a busy night, but you always get there in the end. It's BYO too if you need but reasonably priced wine available too.

Great pizza. This is how pizza base should taste, Reminds me of NSP in Melbourne and the original La Porchetta in Rathdowne street back in the 80's. The toppings are great if you like Italian sausage, cheeses and Spanish prosciutto. I love these pizzas. The pasta and gnocchi is great but the sauces, especially the Ragu needs meat and bones and time. Not minced meat. Pasta is good, not great. I'll go back for pizza, it's MY NEW PIZZA PLACE.

Not greatly impressed. An incredibly salty carbonara with way too much parmesan and unappetizing bacon. Pizza sauce was too runny leading to a limp, soggy result (marinara) although the wood fired base was good. Overall ... There are better options in Balwyn.
