Comments of Dimitri's Pizzeria

This joint serves up one of Sydney’‘s best pizza pies! Super fresh and innovative flavours, my favourite was the bee sting. Mix of hot spicy salami, creamy cheese that melts in your mouth and the contrast of honey really hit the spot for me. Great beer and wine list too!! Recommend booking ahead to not be disappointed!
A. M.
Extremely pleasant service. Pizzas I felt were just above average. The undersides of the pizzas were extremely charred. You could say they were even burnt. Though the flavour of the charred was pleasant but it really masked the actual flavours of the toppings.
A.
Only three stars for a very confusing menu….the pizza itself, the staff and how fast the pizza was made deserves all 10 stars!!
Beware, I have ordered a Marinara pizza, was all geared up for a nice seafood pizza….to find out it is a basic tomato sauce, olive oil and some micro herbs pizza!!
The whole time eating I was thinking I was tripping out… expecting seafood to hit my mouth lol
As I was throwing out the take away box, the back of the pizza had a a trippy picture of a chef - which made me have a laugh, because that’s exactly how I felt by the end of it 🤦♀️
The pizza was ready in 5 minutes not even joking you!!
The staff were very kind and attentive, the flavour of the pizza was on point!!
So yeah, please read the menu carefully, legit!! lol
S.
Amazing pizza. We got the set menu and were stuffed at the end! The cheeses at the start were amazing

Visited a few days ago. Best pizza's I've had in Australia. However the waitress was visibly rude and treated people differently based on their skin tone
J. G.
Nice busy place, when full of people it feels nice and cosy, the service is responsive and fast. And the food didn't take long to arrive even if the restaurant was full and had a lot of takeaway as well. As per the pizas, don't expect any Italian Stile pizza, it's more Australian Stile. The crust is very thin and don't puff a millimeter, and is very very crispy, expect lots of sauces on the pizza. On the other side the ingredients where fresh and tasty. The pasta we tried was actually quite nice and tasty, a dish I will order again. Good place to go with friends and family.

The best pizza and an amazing focused wine list with a ton of natural wine goodness. Their pizza is the best in Sydney hands down and tempted to put it as top 1 in my global pizza rankings 🤭. Make sure to reserve a table!
D. V.
The Best pizza I've ever had! To die for!!! Ate a whole one. The dough so fresh and perfect, the toppings of such high quality 😍😍😍😍
Very generous servings as well. A simply new experience.
I wish everyone tried this pizza and understood they never had a great pizza before.
i.
Food is bomb, really enjoyed the set menu- extremely filling for two people! Waitress serving us was a bit unfriendly and felt a little uncomfortable but otherwise really enjoyed the food!
J. S.
We arrived late after the cinema, the staff were still so welcoming and the service was fantastic. The food was delicious, hot and fresh

It can take the human body around six hours to digest the average meal. But it's taken me almost two years to fully digest the experience of Dimitri's Pizzeria, on Oxford Street, Sydney - on the other side of the world.
I write this in London, as autumn draws in with imposing clouds and reds, browns and greens on our trees. Nature's mosaic.
Since my visit to Dimitri's, in January 2020 I've long craved the ambience, revelry and festival of this fine pizzeria, which remains to this day the greatest pizza I've ever encountered.
On the night, we dined like Tudor Kings - with plate after plate of pizza and innovative sides reaching our table. An explosion of colours and textures - like a great tapestry of old.
Meanwhile, the head chef, who struck me as a man of the arts worked tirelessly; funnelling dough, cheese and tomato deep into the firepit oven with all the industrial vigour of the very men who powered and ignited Empire and gave birth to modern endeavour.
His fresh craftmanship - I'm talking Bee Sting, Funguy and the Dimitris Special - decorated our table with splendour and bold innovation.
Unforgettable tastes and an unforgettable evening. Long have I searched for anywhere that nearly compares in London - but my search goes on.
We left as a group, jubilant in spirit and silently understanding that we had just sampled something truly extraordinary.
I looked to the sky, content and in quiet introspection and watched the flight of the bats - that sacred evening trail that tells you that the world still spins and that soon the moon will be king again.
I thank the team for that exceptional night and pledge to return once time and travel allows.
I think of that chef regularly and send him my best wishes.
I think of Dimitri's.

Gosh this is one of my favourite pizza places in Sydney. The thought of one day returning back for that perfectly charred and fermented dough and unique toppings is getting me through this bloody lockdown.
M. T.
Pizzas are decent but pricey. $16 for a single slice of basque cheesecake?? Outrageous. And below average compared to other basque cheesecakes that are half the price.
a.
one of the best pizzerias in sydney. chef knows what he's doing. "burnt crust" is actually an art form you peasants
K. F.
A wonderfully cozy and rustic spot serving excellent pizza and pasta. Their margarita in particular is fantastic. They also have a really solid selection of beers and wines. The atmosphere is young and cool but welcoming.
G. F.
This place is what pizza is all about! Damn, I am satisfied and happy!
Well definitely and always come back!
g. c.
Dimitri's is a refreshingly not-obnoxious, really good pizza joint with an incredible wine selection. Exceedingly generous servings, great wait staff, amazing pizza... and their upstairs space is beautiful. 10/10!
L. B.
Almost perfect pizza!
Beautiful crust and delicious, quality topping. My only gripe is they’re heavy on the tomato sauce which makes the pizza quite floppy. The flavour of the tomato sauce is incredible! I’ve only tried takeaway so far,but will dine in next time.
D. N.
If I could give it more stars I would. Best pizza I’ve had in years. The dough is super fermented and sour, with the ideal stretch to crust ratio. Not too thin and not too thick. Toppings are just as thoughtful as the base, with clever combinations of mostly vegetarian ingredients and beautiful Italian cheeses + just the right amount of cured meats.
And then came the wine. The Sigurd red was recommended to us by the lovely waitress... insanely good. Really robust and fruity, perfect match to the food. Hands down, new favourite restaurant in Sydney.
A. L.
A tasty local pizza place with beer on tap from Grifter and some good natural wine options.
The pizzas are lovely - woodfire with some unusual and delicious toppings. The brussel Crowe and bee sting are amazing. Fantastic vegetarian options (a more veggie skewed menu than meat, horrah!).
Although the current tasting menu is good, would prefer they go back to the normal menu now they can have full capacity - realistically it isn't really all you can eat pizza in a short sitting, plus with entrees. It's reasonable enough at $55, but would prefer just having a normal menu, as the pizzas are the best bit anyway and the entrees feel a bit like a filler.
S. S.
Best pizza in Sydney! Crust and quality of toppings was fantastic, great options for vegans too. Service was friendly and personable, lovely atmosphere. Toilet was a bit warm, can look passed that. Very authentic! Gotta get the bread side for sure, butter was a dream
P. D.
Probably the best pizza in Darlinghurst. Top service , great menu selection and superb wine list . Must go !
R. W.
The best pizza I have ever eaten in Sydney, the pizza dough is so soft and fluffy and melt in your mouth. Also you MUST get the housemade bread And butter starter with the added cheese it was to die for !
Great little hidden gem in the heart of oxford street, great atmosphere and $5 grifter on tap !
Awesome selection of wines, and also sparking water was FREE!!
The specials they had on offer were great, we got the pizza special which did not disappoint, service was great and very reasonably priced too !!
We will definitely return !!
C. R.
Excellent pizza, great Grifter beer and natural wine list.
Unfortunately let down by the service. Was seated at 6.45 with a reasonable out by time of 8.15 for a walk in. Had to get the waitresses attention to order and to ask for water. Was slammed with the bill on top of my pizza box (with a plate of food still in front of me) at 7.50. Would have liked to order dessert and possibly another drink. Another couple walked in and overheard the waitress point to us and say "they are just about to pay the bill". For an excellent establishment with a killer offering was not made to feel welcome.
R. T.
The best pizza joint around. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, amazing drinks list and the hospitality was second to none. It's our new favourite.
I can't recommend Dimitri's enough!
E. D. M.
My gf and I thought to try this place as their marketing on social media is done well and pizzas looked amazing. Pizzas were definitely great, however, let down but the price. You simply cannot charge an extra $5 for Nduia which was barely present on the pizza. They are very smart on upselling the cost of the final pizza to $28-29 which is ridiculous!
Any authentic REAL Italian pizzerias in Sydney would only charge you max $25 for a pizza.
Place looks more like a pub-bar rather than a pizzeria restaurant and a can of beer costs you $9.
I liked however the pizza, and the personable service from even the chef coming to you at the table.
A.
Good beer selection for the beer lover. Lots of fun sours and IPAs. I order one of their vegetarian pastas. Sauce was alright but the pasta itself resembled instant noodles which I didn't like. They say their pasta is homemade which I believe, but it's not a well made homemade pasta. Maybe for a vegetarian it's not excellent. I paid 29 dollars for a pasta dish and a 33cl beer. Pretty expensive in my mind. Employees weren't very welcoming. All in all it's a pretty chill place with alright pasta (maybe the pizza is better). More a gimmick than a good restaurant in my mind.
A. F.
Best Napoli style pizza in Sydney, cool wine list and beers are chosen with care. The vibe here is legit, so organic, even after the move from Surry Hills! I heard a rumour that they plan to open the second level and roof top area to private functions in the future. The staff are chill, friendly and genuinely want you to have a good time. 5 stars fs.
M. P.
Only went in for a glass of wine and the service was great, I will be sure to go back and checkout the food sometimes soon though.
UPDATE: I finally got to go back a few weeks ago for Pizza and wine. The Pizza was worth going back for, I'm not normally big on crust, but I ate every piece of my Pizza.
I also enjoyed the wine they picked out for me to go with the Pizza I ordered (I asked for them to choose)
M. G.
Wow this pizza place is incredible! The one with honey on it was especially nice. The place has a really good selection of beers as well. Cool vibes. Would definitely go back!
N. Y. (.
The pizzas were great! Our favourite was the Brussel sprout one. Skip the potato pizza or add chilli oil or pancetta. They had two non alcoholic sodas which were both refreshing and delicious.
Not a great venue to drive to, but you may get lucky with street parking after 7.
They do well for a very narrow venue.
P. D.
Dimitris got his pizzas sorted! That's for sure! Vibrant Craft IPAs and quality brews in the fridge, good wines and wonderful fresh pizzas. Anchovies and truffles tops the lot! Damage is around $40 (pizza and beer) but it's worth it. The location is great and so is the vibe inside! Absolute chill! Just enjoy your pizza and watch the drama called Oxford street! Priceless!
Takeaway - Yes
Toilet - must've
Cost - Normal but good value
T. T.
This place makes amazing pizza. We ordered two things on the menu
- the diavola pizza was so fresh you could taste the tomato in the base, coupled with sopressa and two kinds of cheese and jalapenos and all of the ingredients tasted of quality. I usually leave the crust but it was too good to pass up, it was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, almost wet.
- I don't usually review bread but the fresh sourdough here needs a review. Baked every day it's on another level. It comes with two 2" thick slices plus a house made garlic olive oil and creamy butter.
I will go back for sure
B. S.
Absolutely delicious!! We came here fairly late so we got our pizza in less than 10 mins. We had the pumpkin and bacon pizza and it was one of the best pizzas I've had. Perfect base and delicious toppings.
A. l.
Best pizza place in Surry Hills and beyond. All the food here is great, not just the amazing pizzas, and they also have a solid beer and wine selection. More than just a pizza joint, Dimitries is a local legend. Go.
J.
ok pizza, quite expensive for what it is. I visited the store for what was supposedly the happy hour with $10 Margharitas Pizza, ordered it with extras. When I went home I realised I had been charged full price, and even at full price I was over charged by 2 dollars. In the end, I paid $27 for one pizza. I could have gotten 2 delivered from Pizza Hut with stuffed crusts. Granted, their pizza was better than pizza hut, but I wouldnt say its twice as good, to be charging double.
L. G.
Built on the heritage of its predecessor, this latest incarnation of Dimitri's is a different place altogether. The grungy old melamine is long gone, replaced with a funky neon-lit vibe that makes for a great night-time atmosphere.
This is not your typical pizza place - my wife and I tried the Joe Formaggio and the Brussell Crowe and they were both great. Thin-crust sourdough with really interesting flavours. (I'd also recommend the Grifter Pilsner - very easy drinker.)
f.
Great place. Fresh ingredients. You can tell they really care about the food despite the place not looking fancy. Not all about the pizza. The salads are surprisingly good. Recommend the caprese salad.
F. N.
The food was amazing. Not the run of the mill pizza but they were amazing. The caprese salad was the best I have ever had. Wine and beer list were great too.
T. M.
Great little place. Pizzas and pasta all made with massive love and care. "Mein Host" is a quiet and gentle giant, who clearly respects his craft. always fine quality ingredients. Top marks from me.
d. c.
The pizza bases are the best I've had and the toppings are really good and different from any other restaurant I've been to. Get the Brussel Crowe and the Bee Sting. And the chilled red wine 👌
D. A.
Always lovely pizza and friendly service. Venue was very hot on our visit due to lack of /poor air conditioning
c.
Great spot for delicious sourdough woodfire pizza, seriously stunning antipasto plate and friendly service - can't wait to come back!
T. F.
Hands down the best pie in Sydney! The atmosphere and selection of natural wines is divine. Would highly recommend
A. C.
Great bases, can tell alot of love has gone into this food, it all hits the spot. I personally love the Mexican, but swap out the double smoked ham for sopressa. Great beers, great tunes and authentic vibes.
L. V.
Selction of Gluten Free and Dairy Free Pizza is great but I had the lamb pizza and they were a little short on the lamb and the cheese should have been shredded and spread just not thrown on there in giant blobs.
J. K.
Great pizza, interesting toppings. Very accommodating staff. Solid drink selection. Give it a crack. Can’t go wrong.
H. P.
Just ate at Dimitri's on the last night of a week stint in the great city of Sydney coming from Melbourne. The food was excellent to say the least, our chef (Michael) has quite a delicate touch, and I like his quiff! The grifter beer was cold as advertised, and went down a treat after a sweaty day spent at Bondi. I will be back with bells going off.
B. D.
My fav pizza joint, really nice flavour combinations & amazing dough!
R. W.
Hidden gem! Great pizzas, delicious starters and a killer wine list. Would highly recommend
A. D.
I am a true connoisseur of Italian pizza and this place repeats its taste very well
B.
Hidden gem! Absolute win of a pizzeria - check out the cheese & tomatoes. Great skin touch wines too!
S. G.
Food was delicious and was made swiftly, very relaxed vibe. The 2 blokes making pizzas were funny and welcoming. Well worth the coin.
P. H.
Not your usual pizza place. Not only is this one licensed but has great entrees to choose from. Service is excellent. Small and cozy as you would expect in Surry Hills.
S.
Delicious food and really friendly staff!
B. C.
quite possibly my favourite venue in sydney. really good pizza, simple, meaningful drinks menu, and genuine service. a great bunch of people behind this
L. S.
Delicious and relatively cheap pizzas in the heart of Surry Hills. This is a great place to swing by after a few drinks as it's right off Crown Street.
C. C.
