Great experience. I don’t think I’d have known it was vegan if you hadn’t told me!
There was lots of variety. We had the arancini ai funghi porcini, gnocchi al forno, lasagne, funghi e radicchio pizza and the sausage and peperoncino pizza. They were all tasty, but the gnocchi was a little heavy and dense and the pizza is Neapolitan-style with a soggy centre. If that’s your thing, you’ll love it! The standout to me was the arancini, which was super crunchy and so fragrant.
For dessert we had the cheesecake and the cannoli. One of those “are you sure this isn’t dairy?” moments.
Staff were so, so lovely - kind and attentive. Covid protocols all observed; doors wide open, staff all masked and order and pay through the app. Would definitely recommend.

My partner and I had the best food here!
I am Italian and the pizza dough is on point! Even better than some pizzeria places back in Italy.
We had the atlantico pizza with plant-based smoked salmon🤤, porcini mushrooms arancini, pizza regina and dessert...of course! We picked cannoli as I have been struggling with finding plant-based versions since becoming vegan. Very similar to the dairy ones and so good!
Will definitely come back. The only downside is that prices are a bit to high.
H. B.
Nice flavours on the pizza the smell from the truffle potato one was incredible. I just thought the base was really droopy and soggy when you tried to pick it up. For the price ($28 each) I guess I just expected more.

Keen to give this establishment a go, we visited during the busy weekend lunch rush. We ordered a plate of arancini for entree, along with a ‘Regina’ and ‘Patate’ pizza to share. The arancini were perfectly fried balls of goodness, but the star of the show was definitely Gigi's famous wood-fired pizzas. We loved the velvety San Marzano tomato base, sweet pops of fresh tomatoes and creamy tree-nut ricotta on the Regina, and the decadent mix of potato and truffle on the Patate. The pizza bases were cooked to perfection, with crispy edges, paper thin centres and a lovely doughy flavour. We are pretty big meat-eaters, but truth be told we didn't miss the animal products one bit!
It's worth mentioning that since Gigi doesn't use traditional cheese, they are quite heavy-handed with olive oil to make up for the missing creamy texture. This can mean that the pizzas are quite oily. We didn't mind the generous layer of olive oil on our pizzas, but it could be a bit overwhelming for those who are after a healthy meal.
Pricewise, Gigi is on the higher end when it comes to pizza joints, but we think that is totally justified given the quality of the food here. We'll be back for more!

The best vegan pizza I have ever had! The crust is so delicious & everything is vegan, which is amazing & proves that restaurants can be so much more creative by adding more vegan options.
The arancini balls were so delicious. Can not wait to back again & would recommend for everyone vegan or non-vegan :).

quote from my bf “the best vegan place in Sydney”
- the food was amazing, the crust was super yummy and toppings were all fresh.
- we ordered 3 different pizzas and 1 salad. the bill was around $110 or less than that. the pizza was around $30 each and salad was around $15.
- they have a qr code menu and payment system, so you don’t have to wait to order or anything. that also means card payment only and a small amount of payment fee (less than $1 for our bill)
- the place was busy (we went on ANZAC evening) and there were only 2 waitresses. one was really cheerful and the other one was kinda grumpy. maybe it was too busy and she had to work under pressure. we ordered 1 pizza with extra rocket topping but they forgot and then she took it inside and put some rocket on
definitely will go back!
S.
Disappointed that I dint visit this place before. The best vegan Italian cuisine I've ever had. Loved each and every bite of calzone, pizza, lasagna & tiramisu cake. Simple and hygienic restaurant with a lovely staff. Can't wait to visit again. Cheers guys!!

We had been waiting to eat here but every time we were in the area there was always a long line of people waiting outside! This night we managed to be passing by close to opening time and found a perfect opportunity for an early dinner! The entire pizza and pasta menu is vegan and you order and pay via a QR code and app on your phone - so all contactless! We shared between two the Salsiccia e Broccoli pizza and Rucola, Mele e Cannella salad, this was plenty for us both! Both dishes were so good, the pizza was perfect from the topping to the crust - we will definitely be returning and I can now understand how this place has such a long line of people waiting for a table! My advice - get in early :)
W. L.
Can’t believe I waited this long to try Gigi’s. Potato pizzas are delicious!!! Half way through eating we regretted only order one pizza… will definitely be back!!!
K. A.
Best pizza I have ever had and I’m not even vegan.
J. I. E.
Best pizza dough I had tried in Sydney without doubt, and one of the best in Australia. I am giving 4 star because they don't have beer on tap... And pizza without a good beer is not the same.
M. D.
We happened to walk past this place en route to a different place for lunch when we noticed there was no line for once (which is a normal night time sight) & thought why not give this place a go...finally!
There was a few tables available so we were seated quickly. We ordered the arancini - it was nice & crunchy on the outside with flavoursome fillings. The rocket salad was good, although a tad bit too salty in some parts the sundried apple was interesting & added a great sweetness to the dish. We decided to share the Regina pizza & added some sausage (assuming it was vegan friendly) to it as well. Flavours was fantastic & now understand why this place is always busy! The food came out so quick that we wished the pizza came out slightly later so we could enjoy it warm whilst trying the arancini first. Also would be good to have a wine cooler to keep wines cool on the table, although they offered to keep the wine in the fridge we felt bad having the staff replenish our glasses each time.
Apart from that we enjoyed our lunch & although we aren’t vegan we look forward to trying out more pizzas & other items on the menu next time. The staff were very friendly & welcoming as well.

What a delicious vegan feast!! The pizzas here are wonderful! The dough is light and crispy and so delicious when fresh from the oven! The Arancini were very tasty and the cannoli were amazing. Like, they tasted exactly like normal cannoli. They were great. My other favourite thing was the focaccia with garlic and rosemary. Need to try the pasta now but would definitely recommend.
B. L.
Me and my son had the calzones. Man are they delicious and huge. So fresh and the beautiful tomato puree covering the calzones are so good. They also give you some chilli oil if you want to add on to your calzones. My only issue is I wish I had more of that tomato puree on the calzone. Next time I’ll ask if I can order more tomato puree on the side. And it’s vegetarian so I don’t feel bad about harming an animal. My compliments to the chef.
M. “. B.
Tasty, fresh with a sincere dedication to vegan philosphy and cuisine. Gigi's pizzeria honour a constant commitment to service with friendly undertones. We ordered the arancini , potato pizza and the new addition with beyond saussage which was a great choice! You must fine at Giggis to embrace an authentic woodfired pizza that encapsulates very best vegan undertones. We will return many times !
A. L.
ordered via ubereats, the lasagne, arancini and tiramisu. packaged and presented really well. the lasagne was deliiicciiouuuss (only wish the portion size was bigger considering the price)! the arancini balls were okay but i think need to be served with something else like maybe a napoli sauce and fresh herbs. the tiramisu i was super excited about but a spoonful of all layers, you could only taste the coffee sprinkling on top - which was too bitter. without the top layer, the rest is quite bland. needs some sweetness and balanced flavour - this dessert was also too expensive for what it is including the size. still keen to try more on the menu since the lasagne was so delicious and it can be hard to find a good vegan italian restaurant.
C. M.
The only place I go to get pizza in Australia, Gigi is next level authentic Italian, and also vegan but you would never know. Our go to dishes are eggplant calzone, panelle, tiramisù and the orange gf cake. We also tried the new broccoli and sausage pizza, INSANE flavour, highly recommended!
h. S.
Loved the pizza and calzone! Everything was made fresh and the dough was perfect, soft and just right. I think last time I had such delicious pizza was in Italy! Eggplant calzone was oozing with flavour and Salsiccia e Broccoli with beyond sausage is vegan and I couldn't tell the difference. Definitely will be going there again.
K. C.
What a pleasure it is to visit Gigi's during an empty sitting. I imagine this must be one of the perks of being a shift worker.
I've been eating Gigi's over the years and for me it has always been 5 stars. Their tiramisu is second to none and their pizzas are the best vegan pizzas you can get. So I'll spare the accolades, you don't get 20 of newtowns best scenesters lining up on a weekday night for no reason. You do but this is legit.
Today was a 4 star Gigi. Being a huge sandwich buff I had to get the schnitty (just call it what it is guys). It was ok. Nowhere near as good as some others you can get out there.
The more aggregious sin was the pie architecture. I usually expect a wonderfully thin, crispy and doughy base but what we got were a really soggy middle. It flopped like a ragdoll when you picked it up.
What made it even more compounding was that there was no one there. No rush of orders to hide the clumsy quality behind.
Forgiven but not forgotten. Still love youse though.
D. B.
Solid vegan eatery, good comfort food. Pizza crust was really nice and soft, creamy vegan cheese, but a little bland. Arancini balls were decent, would be better if softer and could use a bit more flavour. Vegan cannoli were the highlight, delish!
K. P.
Absolutely delicious plant based pizza. Best pizza I've had. The base was thin, chewy and super tasty and the marinara sauce was perfection. Could not recommend more highly for a great vegan meal
S. G.
Food was delicious and so was desert. Amazingly all vegan and you wouldn't even tell. The owners were also very lovely.
C. L.
Hands down best pizza I've had, the pizza dough is perfect, beautiful environment. There's usually a line outside but its definitely worth the short wait! (PS. You'll need an empty stomach before coming in because the servings are more than generous)
f.
Been here few times! Gotta come early otherwise gotta wait for tables. I literally would generally turn up few minutes before they are open. Good food, tried many of their pizzas, delicious and fresh everytime. My favourite would be their calzones!! They are creamy, yummy and so filling! Friendly service. And of course love the fact that they are vegan!!
J. W. K.
One of the best pizza I had in Sydney, but definitely the best vegan pizza I ever had. Sooooo good.
Lovely service and great wine. Thank will be back for more!!!!
E.
Oh. My. God.
My friend took me here and I was (at first) disappointed because I didn’t find any vegan option, until she told me it was all vegan!!! We got 3 pizzas (calzone; potatoe; and one of the specials) and some snacks (croquettes and some other one) and it was so delicious it was hard to believe!
The pizza’s are just perfect. The taste is amazing and they are so filling.
I personally didn’t love the tiramisu, but everything was 5/5!
Lines are long on weekends!
K. K.
Almost everything was delicious. There was 1 pizza with giant chunks of raw cabbage (I think) which wasn't my cup of tea but, everything else was soooo good!
Great service and atmosphere. I would be happy to come again.
M. M. L.
My fav vegan place in Sydney. Amazing Italian food and nice familiar environment. Totally worth it. All the starters are a must try and the calzones are out of this world.
N. V.
Disappointed I have to write this review but I need to share my experience dining here last night. Being Italian myself it's hard to come across a nice Italian restaurant as my expectations are very high but this place impressed me. I found this place right before Covid lockdown hit this year, I was so excited to come back to eat after having a great first experience. Small businesses took a massive hit this year and I wanted to support these struggling restaurants, however the service we got was a bit strange. The lady who greeted us wanted my friend and I to sit on these high bar tables crammed into a corner with 6 other people, I asked if we could sit on an eye-level table instead, considering there was so many empty tables. She said she would wait for the people to leave and clear the table for us. The said people left, I walked over to wait near the table and another waitress came over to greet us to which I said the lady was already clearing a table for us. That said lady came over to me and said "I said I would come grab you when the table is free", I told her I was happy to stand and wait. We finally got our table and ordered. We had the Gnocchi Al Forno, melanzane pizza and pomodoro salad with some red wine. The pizza and pomodoro salad were great, however I don't think the gnocchi was cooked properly, half of it was still doughy and the sauce was kinda cold. At one point during the night, she tried to take our plate which still had food on it. I felt the waitress was giving us attitude and I got a vibe of "hurry up and eat and get out of here". I don't want to deter people from eating here but the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth so I'm unsure If I will come back.

Great experience! No wonder why there are always a queue in the front, but don't panic, it goes very fast (about 15 mins) and it totally worth it! Be gone meat lovers as this place is only plant based but again don't let this repulse you as everything taste amazing (i would add a bit of salt and pepper but this is my humble opinion). Service is lightning fast thanks to this little device on the table where you access the menu, place your order and pay contactless (yes you need a smartphone but I am sure you have one ;) ). Pizzas arrived in literally 5-10 min max. Staff is friendly and helpful even if you feel a bit rushed as people are waiting outside for your spot and your plate is quickly taken out as soon as you finish (reason of the missing 🌟). You have to try this place at least once as they are really quality pizza and the decoration is nice!
s. s.
Great vibe, outstanding service and DELICIOUS PIZZA. We just didn’t love the cheese as it tasted like pea protein and had a sweet rather than savoury flavour....However, I would highly recommend this place and I will be back!
M. J. V.
Best pizza of the world! Went with my boyfriend, we are not vegan, and is the best pizza we have tried in sydney! It's so tasty that you dont even miss the cheese! The crust and the tomato sauce was perfect!
J. W.
The food was so good you wouldn't have known it to be dairy free. We were all sceptical at first but decided to give it a go. Every order is delicious - arancini, calzone, tiramisu, everything. Definitely more than 5 stars!
One of us was disappointed though - we had to check with the waiter when one of the drinks didn't arrive after half an hour and was informed they ran out of Rose. Customer service - 3 stars. The waiter could have been more proactive and inform us, no?
K.
Great selection of creative, unique pizza. The pizza heaven for vegans and vegos!
The paste was a little too much and the pizza base got quite soggy :(
Very noisy with the music and people. Not the place for chitchat and all.
Waiting really long for the pizzas to come.
J. B.
So good!
If you're looking for a nice pizza place in Newtown, this is a good bet. Their whole menu is vegan (but many meat eaters love it too)
Currently they have an automated ordering system, make sure they give you a quick demo otherwise you'll be confused of why there are no menus.
Drinks are a bit pricey for soft drink ($5 for 330mL) but pizzas are reasonably priced, from the low $20s to high $20s. Took some pizza for the ride home :)
S. M.
Best Italian pizza place I have ever been to. Do try their patate which is a must have. There is a bit of a wait as they don't do reservation but it is all worth it.
A.
We ordered a pizza and some arancini and they were great! The arancini were so good that weren't enough, they had mushroom inside. The pizza funghi e radicchio with plant base cheese was also awesome. I am Italian so I appreciate when a pizza is well made!
A. J.
Loved it. Great pizza and salads and the service was 💯 Catie our server went above and beyond and a total gem.
A. B.
Great vegan pizza and deserts. Especially, love their tomato sauce, it's top notch.
I. R.
Gigi's Pizzeria is actually out of this world ;) VEGAN DELICIOUS PIZZA... the flavours are incredible. It's healthy. It's cosy. The salads are scrumptious. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The owners are so kind and down to earth. It's in Newtown. 2 bathrooms. Plenty of street Parking. Always pumping till 10.30. DJs and lovely music. Can't say how good it actually is. Will always be back with everyone I know!!!
Thank you xx
A. Y.
Best place to get some vegan pizza! absolutely tasty and flavour taste, finished in real firewood oven.
小.
Everyone shall try this wonderful pizza place. Doesn’t matter whether you are Vegan or non-vegan. If you had all those brand pizzas before, you would find yourself the way what pizza really means. Amazing speed from the ordering till you are served. It has over turn your concept from a slow wood fire pizza to a modern stone roasted wood fire pizza, given the fact that all pizzas are hand made on your order.
Regina
To find out if they are good, best to start with their attitude towards the simplest.
The base: all the middle parts are soft not crust. It has been a gorgeous experience when the San Marzano tomato, tree nuts ricotta is blended so well with the soft base. The thin (only 5 mm I think) and soft base has given exactly what you want for the bedding. Cherry tomatoes are cooked just in time to naturally appear on top. Parmesan, mozzarisella mixed was deliberately large dropped on top. They are warm, very tasty, work together with the others. The pizza was not just right salt level for me (I don’t like salty at all). Right oil for me as well (I don’t like oily either).
The edge: Balloon is the word for the edge. Yes. That’s correct. The dough is hollow inside and soft crust outside. What a great pizza.
This simplest has mark the high cooking skill of chef. That brings me a great pizza experience.
Calzone con Melanzane
This pizza let you discover there is sweetness in eggplant. It brought out the fresh and natural sweet from eggplant when the hot pizza was presented. Mushroom are sliced in the right thickness and cooked in the right time. Juicy mushroom, bit sweet eggplant, together with ricotta, san Marzano tomato and parmesan define how perfect a real vegan pizza should be.
Religious may ask the Restaurant to remove onion and garlic from this pizza when cooking. In my opinion, it tastes better without these two.
A. D.
Perfect pizza! Fresh and flavoursome. Very quick. Friendly staff and great vibe.
Definitely going back!!
L. C.
This is by far the best vegan pizza I've ever had.
Gigi's is one of the many vegan gems in Newtown. The pizza's crust is soft but still allows for some crunch. The pizza's was very clearly made fresh and it was super busy when we went.
Definitely will be coming back to try the other items on the menu!
A. C.
Wow from the service to the pizza everything about this place is first class. Even though it's a vegan pizza place should not detract from it being one of the best in Sydney. The dough is phenomenal soft with good chew and the woodfired oven makes the difference.
The potato pizza with rosemary and truffles is a hit make sure you try it. Everything is very good here in regards to the main meals.
The entree and dessert is okay but not value for money.
O. J.
Very good vegan pizza. The vibe is bustling and hot given the fire oven! They also had a great value wine on the specials board. Service was prompt too. Bear in mind you will likely have to queue outside. We only had to wait for about 10 minutes as we were only 2 people. If you are in a big group you may be waiting a while.
R. C.
The best vegan pizza I've had so far. Amazing tomate base and vegan cheese is better than normal cheese. Nice beers to choose from the menu as well. We had to wait a long time outside in the cold, but worthwhile.
J.
Totally impressed with the taste and quality of the pizzas. I highly recommend this place Lorenzo the owner was super friendly! I can say best vegan pizza in Sydney with excellent service! Gracie Mille 🙏🏻 ☺️
J. Z.
This place serves the best pizza I've had outside of Italy. The fact that everything on their menu is vegan makes it even better.
If you can't imagine vegan pizza, give it a try. You won't regret it.
No reservations on weekends, just walk-ins.
S. H.
Believe the hype, it really is that good. Visited with my boyfriend (both of us are vegan) and our omni friend twice while in Sydney. Our friend begged us to come back! The pizzas here are amazing, relying on the flavours of vegetables rather than lashings of cheese to really make their mark.
I tried a calzone with vegan cheese the first time and just a pizza the second and both were incredibly tasty. I also tried a cannoli and tiramisu which were both amazing.
Service feels a little rushed but it’s so incredibly popular people are queuing out the door. You can’t grumble that they want you in and out to seat the next customers.
D. D.
Amazing. That's the only word to describe the pizza. The patate pizza was actually mind bending!!
The staff are really friendly, accommodating and knowledgable about the food they serve. Also the wine selection is really good.
Did I mention that the patate pizza was mind bending? Best pizza I have ever had!
A. L.
Delicious food - you forget that there’s no meat! The pizza dough is soft and light so you leave without feeling heavy and the toppings are fresh and full of flavour.
Waitstaff were cheerful and smiley which made the atmosphere light and casual.
They were accommodating too and let us move to a table away from the door because it was cold.
H. L.
Fabulous pizza that happens to be vegan.
That’s all you really need to know. It’s a bit exy but come on it is posh pizza you should know what you are getting into here!
T. C.
First time dining at Gigis pizzeria and after waiting 50 minutes for a table we ordered 4 pizzas which were all delicious ,we also ordered tiramisu which I found a bit disappointing it tasted like marsala not coffee. Overall it was worth the wait
M. G.
Probably my most recommended vegan restaurant for any vegan sceptics. The food here is incredible. I recommend the radicchio salad and the potato pizza. The cannoli is also out of this world good! Probably my favourite Italian place I’ve ever been to. Also an excellent vibe and great drinks as well. I get so excited whenever I plan to come here. Super authentic Italian and vegan. Simply perfect!
G. J.
Best vegan pizzas I've ever had. Crusty and charred dough.
They could do with more toppings for that price though.
S. J.
Great place, lovely atmosphere and even better food. Was definitely worth the wait and had a hard time believing that all of this was vegan. :P
Agree with most reviews, the calzone is a must try!
B. B.
Very friendly and polite staff. Waiters and waitresses were helpful and quick. Staff were patient with us despite staying past the closing time to have dessert. Charming atmosphere. Pizza was mouth-watering delicious. Only minor complaint was that the music was a little too loud for our liking. Not enough of an issue to remove the 5 stars
D. C.
We used to frequent Gigi's before it went all vegan (in late 2016). First time back and the food is still A+, amazing taste and range for someone who never dabbles in vegan. Staff can be a bit pushy which is to be expected given the queues that often linger outside. Otherwise a great experience overall
T. G. H.
Still sitting in Gigi's right now writing this review. Been vegan for 5 years and this is without a doubt the best pizza/calzone I've ever had, including my non vegan days as well. So impressed will definitely be back!
W. L.
It would be better if they have gluten free choices of the pizza bread and put some more veggies on top of the bread. The taste is good overall.
A. T.
Ok, ok... I was the biggest skeptic of them all when I heard that Gigi’s went vegan. Pizza without meat and cheese? No thanks. My girlfriend almost had to drag me to the restaurant to try it out. Well, thankfully she did because this place is awesome. Not only were the pizzas great, you don’t end up with that greasy feeling at the end of the meal. Try everything. That’s my goal.
R. M.
Amazing pizza... So glad a place like this is in Sydney! Be prepared to wait about 30 mins on a Fri or sat night.
Pizza flavours are great but the base itself is the star here.
H.
Up there with some of the best Napoli pizza I've had. Extra kudos for the waiterless ordering and payment system they've implemented.
K. G. (.
By far my favourite pizza place in Sydney. Vegan options with an outstanding flavour assortments. Heaven in your mouth! My non vegan boyfriend agreed that it is also the best pizza base he has ever tried :)
s. r.
There was a HUGE lineup on a Wednesday night 7pm. That instantly shows how good it was. People willing to wait in line for 20+ minutes just to get inside, and another 20+ minutes after ordering their food. They do not take reservations, so be prepared to be waiting around depending on when you go. Definitely worth it!
We decided to get takeaway as aw were in a group of 7, took our pizzas and arancini to Camperdown Memorial Park to eat. All of it was so pleasant and the staff were lovely and apologetic for the wait.
(Terrible photo, sorry. Pictured is the pumpkin cream pizza)
D. F.
Great pizza, high quality food, the only bad thing is the music, extremely high volume.
M. N.
Amazing cant wait to be bak. Arancini to die for. We had pizza with roasted peppers, radichio and fungi and patate and they were all soooo good nice wine and drink selection loved it
A. P.
Very tasty food with plenty of gluten free options which were still flavourful. Nice service and ok pricing
E. C.
Friendly and attentive staff. Has vegan options + a range of meals to choose from. Cool ordering app service :)
A bit dark inside and can feel a bit warm indoors. A few brighter lights and fan of some sort would be more comfortable.
Thank you for a delicious lunch!
K. P.
Really good Vegan Pizzas for a decent price. Atmosphere is hip n cozy. Generally busy during dinner time so be prepared to queue up outside. Oh n bills can't be split :P
L. T.
Very delicious cauliflower pizza! The staff were so nice too!
A. P.
The vegan pizza was amazing, I have to give 3 stars because ordering with our smartphones was very annoying. I also didn't like the beers on the menu, expensive bottles ($22), or $12 can which I ordered without getting an empty glass for that. No wine by the glass on the menu is something I never saw before, and the customer service was poor: we were a group of 7 and we ordered some Antipasti to share but we didn't receive any plate. This restaurant has enormous unexpressed potential
A. C.
The pizza I had was the potato and truffle with rosemary is sublime. The freshness of the ingredients and the softeness of the dough makes each slice a mementous experience.
Also had the arancini balls and potato croquettes. They are okay but definitely overpriced for what you get. My friends had the desserts which they enjoyed.. The service was warm and friendly.
This place is all about the pizza next time I will stick with that and enjoy each mouthful.
I. A.
Tuesday night at Gigi's is very busy! Even so, my Funghi e Radicchio pizza arrived within about five minutes of my placing the order. Buonissima! Now for the dessert special of Raspberry Torta. Primavera Pizza for visit number two, also on a Tuesday night. There's a dish of peanuts to start things off. (Best to take the shells off first!) And then there was cheesecake.
B. J.
Such good Pizza! Actually may be the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. Honestly this is a great place to go to even if you aren’t eating a plant based diet. They play with simple flavours and create something really special. I am super full as I couldn’t stop eating! Bless.
S. R.
Nice vegan food - was excited to try it, but the lasagna came out cold, and was really disappointing.
A. P.
Decided to try this restaurant after hearing a lot of ppl talk about it on YouTube. It’s good but I’ve had better vegan pizza. It was packed when I went & service was OK.
E. B.
So the pizza is naturally very good, super tasty, light and chewy bases 👌 the whole vibe is also good, and bonus points for the very cool, efficient online ordering system!
K. P.
Absolutely amazing food - even the salad is super tasty and not 'regular'. The pizza base reminded me of when I was in Napoli/Naples and tried authentic margarita pizza. No wonder why this place is constantly busy and incredibly popular!
B. P.
Waited an hour for dinner on a busy Saturday night but was well worth the wait. Great pizza for vegan and non-vegans alike.
M. S.
Amazing pizza and arancini. I'm not a vegan and I couldn't tell
J. H.
Excellent food, even if you aren’t vegan the food is delicious. The pizza bases are wood fired and really tasty and rich. Highly recommended
K. D. M.
The best vegan pizza ever, thin base, nice filling combination, full of taste. The calzone it's a masterpiece. Gluten free options available as well.
H. N.
I was hesitant to go because I was very sceptical about vegan pizza pasta. My god, was I wrong. The lasagna melts in your mouth. And would highly recommend the salsiccia e broccoli pizza. What a taste sensation. Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu
A. C.
The Regina pizza turned out to be the best pizza I’ve ever had!!!! The toppings were so fresh, I’ll have to come back the next time I’m in Sydney.
K. M.
Eggplant Calzone x4 is best order (for 1 person).
Because is v good not because is small
M. B.
Loved the calzone, omg! Delicious! The famous Patate is nothing special and didn’t like actually. The customer service is really bad unfortunately
S. F.
Such an amazing place. Pizzas are to die for and the team are so nice!
N.
the very best pizza in sydney, so delicious, filling and fresh. the pizzas also taste just as good reheated in the oven.
C. R.
Ahhhh. Every. Single. Pizza. On. Earth. Should. Be. This.
M. R.
All vegan meals. Best cannoli ever! They are busy so theres a line. They have this new ordering system during covid where we scan qr code with our phone camera and menu pops up and you can pay too. All contactless and pretty easy. Recommend to visit.
H. K.
Superb vegan pizzas! Especially loved the potato and truffle one!
T. B.
Best pizza I've had in quite a while! Still can't believe all the pizzas were vegan. I'm a vegetarian who loves cheese, but I did not miss a thing last night. Brought a colleague who still eats meat, he definitively shared my opinion. We were both very impressed.
S.
Some of the best vegan Pizza around. Service was good, nice atmosphere inside. A little pricey and annoying that they don't accept reservations. Drink options are limited.
K. M. (. K.
Is it all Vegan? Not sure but its all vegetarian. My son is vegetarian but i am not. This was very good pizza. Gnocchi was also a delight. And the finish for me was canoli. All very exceptional. The staff were very friendly and accommodating for our 2 kids! Great ambience!
a. m.
Ordered the peperone rosso pizza after glowing reviews and a recommendation from a friend. The pizza had a nice clean taste with emphasis on each ingredient and the dough was quite tasty but just didn't have the punch of flavour that I personally prefer. Didn't get the taste of pepperoni but it was a nice pizza. Hoping to come back to try another pizza option.
D. M.
Went amidst the pandemic. They had an amazing waiter-less ordering method with digital payments which was great. The food came out at good pace though like someone staggered it nicely. The only thing I wasn’t aware of was that it is vegan. I was certainly looking forward to traditional Neapolitan pizza and sadly the vegan version doesn’t deliver on the full flavour. I’m sure it’s a vegan’s paradise but it didn’t meet my expectations. Still a solid venue though and will recommend to my vegan friends.
P.
Amazing food and service! The staff was really amazing and helpful. This is the first time I write a review because I was really impressed. The taste took me back to Naples!!! Vegans and non vegans should definitely try this place!
J. n.
Amazing plant based Italian food 😍 comfortable dining experience with excellent staff.
E. C.
I'm not a vegan.
The food was yummy, the pizzas and calzones are exactly as you'd expect from a good Italian eatery. Next time I'm in the area, I'll give it another go. They have a good booze selection. I'll update when I've tried everything else!
b. u.
Best pizza in town!! Calzone con melanzane is a must (w/ homemade ricotta)
A. M.
This is how pizza should be. Vegan pizza is the future. You may have to line up outside for a while but it is worth the wait. I have never had a bad meal here and the Patate (potato and truffle pizza) is the only thing you need in your life. Recommend to anyone and everyone.
D. T.
Super delicious pizza... That happens to be vegan. Best potato pizza I've ever had.
D. R.
Their food is simply amazing. One pizza is good enough for two people.Their entire menu is vegetarian which makes its great for people preferring veg food given some place offer just one or two veg options. Havent had such great pizzas in a really long time. It was fresh, tasty and different than the usual pizza toppings. The wait staff were lovely. The ambience of the place is great.
E. D. M.
There are a lot of great pizzerias in Sydney but Gigi is by far the best one.
I was there for lunch and it was quiet, the pizza came quick and perfectly made. I hope that when they are busy, the result is the same. Consistency is very important.
Also, they have an amazing artisan beer called Gjulia from Friuli. A must try!
O.
Pizza calzone was very delicious and the biggest one ive ever had, really nice looking Restaurant, good service. Pizza was very fast ready. But they dont have a propper knife for pizza, just butterknifes i really had to fight with my calzone and the waiter wasnt able to bring me a good knife
R. J. S.
Amazing vegan pizza and great wine, however the experience was ruined by the rude waitress. Maybe she was having a bad day but she didn’t explain how the contactless menu worked and we just had to figure it out for ourselves, she treated us like we were bothering her. The other staff made up for it though with their friendliness.
J. E.
Visited here last night and was actually quite excited about it as their menu is all vegan (My partner and I are vegetarian). The staff are very lovely and kind especially a lady with short brown hair. The pizza bases are good and the different options are great however, the pizzas we got were very salty and made us super thirsty! We finished two bottles of water. It may have just been the two pizzas we ordered. This morning we’re both feeling quite sluggish and heavy from the meal the previous night. Due to this we most probably won’t be back.
C. C.
Delicious pizza! Great portions! Service wasnt bad at all, the staff was very nice all the time. The only thing that they are missing is having wine by the glass, the rest is perfect!
L.
We went to Gigi, me being a vegetarian and my family not, and the food was incredible, and it was amazing being able to eat everything. The Regina was amazing, the ricotta was just like dairy! The lasagna was very impressive and I couldn’t tell it was vegan. Amazing food and service and we would return!
K. B.
My non-vegan friend and I recently visited, and already can't wait to return. The vegan pizzas are absolutely delicious, and the staff and owner very friendly and attentive. Great atmosphere too!
T. D.
Great pizza place, all vego. Salads were great. Ordering was easy and done via QR code at your table.
m.
Favourite vegan pizza place. I have allergies and heaps of food restrictions and the staff are friendly and willing to cater to your needs. I always bring my non vegetarian friends here n they really love it. Highly recommended even if ur not vegan/vegetarian n looking for good pizza. just try it once, no regrets 🤤
M. R. V.
Just tried the vegan tiramisú and was so amazing. Thank you ;)
S.
Best pizza I've ever had!!! Definitely worth the wait for a table as food is incredible so too are the cocktails and wine list. Dined here on two separate occasions as the only vegan of each group and everyone said the same - best pizza they've ever had. Once you are seated you are seen to quite quickly and food is out at a very reasonable time. Seriously my favourite pizza place ever. 10/10 💕
S. H.
I LOVE this place. The pomodoro salad is gorgeous and tasty, and the Funghi e Radicchio pizza is divine. I don’t even generally like radicchio or parsley, but this pizza has the perfect balance and is incredible. I could honestly eat it every day.
Love the different vegan cheeses, and enjoy seeing the specials here. Great atmosphere too — funky and lively.
M. T.
Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Service was attentive and food was delicious. We had the Funghi e Radicchio and Lasagna. Asked for a chilli oil and can confirm it is spicy. 4 stars as the meal was on the dearer side of things. Other than that, would recommend!
C. W.
Absolutely fantastic! I was blown away by how amazing this pizza is! I took my girlfriend who is non vegan and normally a little picky with food but she absolutely loved it too! Will definitely be back for more delicious Italian food
J. M.
The best pizza I've ever tried! And I've been to Italy several times
N. U.
Is was nice and all though I wouldn't recommend it.
Impressive menu though they all share very similar ingredients which, as someone with a nut allergy, makes it quite difficult. (tree nuts, cashews, walnuts etc). They were also dismissive of our allergies which for a vegan restaurant is really disappointing.
The service wasn't great, I felt rushed making my decision and to make things worse we were given the wrong food. No big deal, it happens, however the food then took an additional 20 minutes to arrive whilst the table next to us managed to finish their entire meal after ordering at a similar time.
The chickpea chips were good, the lemon made them better and the portion size was okay. The pizza was okay, if I was served that in a non vegan restaurant I would have been happy but for a fully vegan restaurant there was nothing outstanding. Base was done well and the flavour was there, just nothing more than that.
Small things matter, even something as simple as saying goodbye whilst looking at your customer. This left me with a bad taste in my mouth and it wasn't just the pizza.
V. B.
Enjoyed every bit of it!! Vegan, Delicious, funky, and friendly.
T. N.
I ordered online a couple of pizzas for pickup. They were on time just when we arrived. I heard so many good things about gigi so I was expecting a decent pizza. Not the case. The regina pizza was more like a tomato soup on a flat bread, soggy as a wet cloth, we needed a spoon to eat it. The other pizza was the supreme, slightly better but the dough was also super soggy. I rolled the slices and ate them as tacos. Anyway, the only reason I am rating this place 3 stars and not 2 is because the flavours were really nice. In my humble and unsolicited opinion as a guy who have eaten pizza around the world for the last 30 years or so, you shouldn’t need a spoon to eat a pizza.
R. S.
Good food. Quick service. Deserts are also worth it.
C. O. D.
Seriously amazing pizza. DAM FINE!
L. B.
The most amazing small woodfired pizza place. The people are lovely and the food is absolutely Phenomenal. They are entirely vegan, and the quality is out of this world!
S. A.
Probably the best pizza I have ever had, vegan or otherwise. Every ingredient tasted fresh, and the flavors came together really nicely, both in the pizzas and the drinks. There's usually a significant wait, but it's worth it!
Y. S.
Amazing pizza that's vegan and you can't even tell the difference. The staff are polite and quick to take your order, which I like. Good options for wine - as well as the option to purchase 500ml as well as a glass or bottle. Perfect place and not to expensive. I had a margarita pizza with a side of aranchini which was to die for.
A. S. (.
Some of the best pizza in Sydney whether you're Vegan or not really doesn't matter. Lovely staff that is always welcoming. Has a line out the door for a reason! Make sure to show up before 6 to make sure you get a table without waiting.
R. J.
This place is the best! Amazing vibes and pizza is unlike anything else
D. B.
Plant-based that tastes just as good as the original, not just an after thought. Very popular during peak so prepare to wait for a table, but it's worth it.
J. D.
Best Vegan pizza. As a meat eater I was blown away by just how good the pizza was. Definitely not lacking in flavour. Plenty of options and beautiful bread and olive starters.
K. C.
Absolutely amazing! The dough is incredible, cooked to perfection in the wood fire oven. Virtually one of the best wood fire pizza's in Sydney. It is adored by all! Including non-vegans. Recommend the mouth-watering Arancini entree and Potato Truffle Pizza main. complimented by their creatively mixed fresh cocktails you will not be disappointed!
M. R.
Had the Arancini with Porcini and Pizza
Melanzane - rich tomato, tree nuts ricotta, grilled eggplant, basil salsa, magnificent extra virgin olive oil. Love being able to order and pay after checking in with my phone.
The food exceeded my expectations and even though I was here for lunch, I'm considering returning for dinner.
S. C.
Amazing pizzas. Very funky interior (Newtown style). The place is fully vegetarian. The quality of the ingredients can easily be tasted in the final product. All the cheese used is dairy free. There is a fully stocked bar and Italian beers are available too. So a great pizza place. It does get very busy and they don't take bookings. Hoever the turnaround is very quick and the food is worth the wait.
L. R.
Delicious pizza and amazing customer service (like next level customer service). Definitely recommend.
D. M.
Authentic pizza, lively atmosphere. Get there early or late to avoid queueing for they don't take bookings. The most remarkable transition I've seen, going from successful Italian restaurant serving a full menu, including meat and dairy one night and reopening as a plant based, vegan only the next, all the while keeping the latent demand or even increasing it. Risky move that played out well. Kudos.
A. S.
Post Enmore Theatre pizza spot! Delicious and super easy to get a table, large place with lovely pizza oven.
C. L.
Service is great and menu is simple to navigate and reasonably priced. I'm a bit of a meat eater and found the vegan sausage pizza a strange experience but the pizza bases and tomato sauce were lovely.
l. b.
Amazing food and good table service. Staff very helpful when choosing from the menu due to allergens. Really nice vibe and great music.
J. M.
Updating my review for 2020 experiences: came here for takeaway in July, the restaurant was empty and the staff seemed confused when we walked in. I also ate in one late afternoon/early evening. I've discovered that the pastas are the way to go, find them better than their pizzas. Eating in was a fairly positive experience, got us to sign in with a QR code and the food came out fairly quickly. The restaurant was empty for most of my dining time and they had the windows open so I felt safe eating in the restaurant. Still fairly expensive but when you figure out what you like it's definitely worth the price.
Original review from 2018: The savoury food was delicious, the almond crusted potato's and the marinara pizza were the stand outs for me. I wasn't a fan of the cannoli as they wernt as sweet as I was expecting. The food came out quick and the staff were lovely and helpful. If you are a wheelchair user like myself, get there early. I arrived 30 minutes before opening to make sure I was able to get a table I could access as you can't pre-book a table.
M. M.
Having eaten at Gigi on more than 30 occasions, it's about time I gushed about how dear to my heart this amazing restaurant has become.
Given that Gigi fulfilled a dream I'd had for years, of seeing a successful Sydney restaurant make the ethical choice to remove all animal products from their menu and become vegan - I guess I was always destined to fall in love with them. And what a romance it has been.
The talented team who produce their amazing food have created what for me is THE most satisfying dining experience in Sydney. The thought that has gone into each menu item, with those perfectly balanced flavours, has resulted in me constantly changing what my favourite meal to order is - it's all so tempting.
I can only recommend that you return often enough to explore their entire menu and specials board, to fully appreciate their mastery of plant-based cuisine. And be sure to leave room for dessert - the options are truly sublime.
But all that amazing food would count for little if not for the wonderful team who work there. Always welcoming, always providing such quality service - even though they are at capacity most nights of the week. The warmth and well-timed attentiveness of all their staff is as much a highlight as the traditional Italian deliciousness they serve.
Beyond offering the perfect pizza, and being the ultimate Newtown experience, Gigi has defied its critics and transformed the Sydney vegan landscape, creating a template for change that others have now followed. This is the place I take my non-vegan friends when I'm out to show them just how incredible plant-based eating can be. And just like me, they can't wait to return.
A. C.
Beautiful food and the staff were very friendly.
T.
Delicious vegan dishes! Would absolutely recommend!
M. S.
Would advise to arrive before they open, as line gets really long. The funghi pizza was beyond delicious, but the other one that we picked (can't remember the name) was just okay.
The place is very busy so you need to be persistent when calling the waiters.
X. S.
Great food. Cozy and open late at night. Tips are offered but not compulsory.
J. Q.
Absolutely amazing (vegan!!) pizza. Whether you're a vegan or not, Gigi's is a must while in Sydney. The dough is so, so incredible and tastes exactly what you'd expect to find on the streets in Italy. The interior is super charming and the staff is kind, friendly, and inviting. Already planning my next visit back.
A. N.
Was recommended to Gigi's Pizzeria by a friend, and normally I prefer meat on my pizza's, but this was actually really good! Their pizza's are all vegan, and they taste delicious and fresh. I also had their vanilla custard cannoli, and that was divine!
M. J.
Top dollar but very tasty food
B. G.
Great food and atmosphere. I love that it is vegan pizza. You can't even tell/ don't care that it doesn't have cheese and dairy because it is so good. The only issue is the wait time for a table can be a little long because it is always so busy, but the service is great and the food and drinks make up for it.
If the bar is free they usually sit people here to wait for a table and grab a drink, and the complementary peanuts on arrival are great!
J. L.
Yum! Had not had good pizza after went vegan. Gigi's nailed it! I ate more than 2/3, cos it's too good, haha. and the dessert, tiramisu was also Great! My non-vegan friend also enjoyed it.
n. m.
If you feel like having a Pizza that's not overpowered by cheese and you can taste the real toppings then this is the place to be
D. S.
Amazing tasting vegan pizza, perfectly located in Newtown. Due to their success this place is usually quite busy and there was a line-up the evening I visited and you cannot pre-book. Tastefully decorated and well presented. I suggest you bring cash unless you want to be stung with their overpriced card fees. This being aside all the plus outweigh the negatives.
E. Z.
Delicious pizza and you can feel good while you eat at this sustainable vegan restaurant :)
There are no reservations so get there early as the line grows quickly. Limited wine options.
Highly recommend the truffle pizza, also personally loved the calzone.
S. M.
Great Pizzas and you cant reallly make out if they are Vegan. The Peperone rosso and Penne are worth try. Also they have a good selection of local beers.
A. M.
I recommend the truffle potato pizza, and the ricotta calzone. The bases are delicious, and you wouldn't know that they use all vegan cheese - the taste is remarkable. Non vegans will be very satisfied here. Highly recommend. There may be a line and they don't take bookings, so be prepared for a wait, or to eat outside of peak times.
j. h.
This is a vegan pizza restaurant. I had the calzone and my friend had a pizza and the toppings were sparse to say the least. Very expensive also. Very bland in the flavour department
Staff were friendly however and the dining room was nice
R. M.
Gigi, I love you!
As far as I am concerned, best pizza in Sydney. The dough is incredible and the ingredients are high quality.
Although I am not vegan, whenever I want to enjoy a good pizza I go there!
Nice atmosphere as well.
H. S.
Pizzas are really delicious (didnt know they were vegan!) but we went on a day when the air con wasn't working and it was unbearably hot inside. Was sweating through my shirt and it made the whole experience very uncomfortable unfortunately hence the 4 stars.
P. h.
Amazing vegan pizzas even for non-vegans, I go once a week without fail! The place is always buzzing and you get queues out of the door and peak times! ...but the friendly staff get you seated pretty quickly.
T. B.
Even my Italian girlfriend says this is the best pizza she has ever had. Beautiful quality ingredients and nice atmosphere.
The only thing which I have noticed on multiple times eating here... you need to invest in some sharp knives!!
F. F.
I rarely line up, but I'd heard such good things and It's a beautiful restaurant with professional staff and really efficiently run, but all the being shuffled in and out is not really my speed. The cauliflower pizza was very delicious. I'm very glad that this place's vegan philosophy has been so successful.
E. C.
I’m considering paying the chef to make me a giant garlic Gigi’s pizza, slowly tunnelling into it and setting up a small studio flat with that amazing vegan cheese for a roof and that soft yet crispy base as my floor.
I would live in that tasty damn pizza until one day I pay that chef to build me a pizza house.
Epic pizza, doing great things for the vegan community. Cheers legends.
J. G.
Great pizzas as others have noted. It was chockers on a Tuesday night but the service was pretty quick. Wait staff were very professional. Prices are getting up there with pizzas in the mid $20 and drinks coming in at $12 each so for two pizzas and two drinks you'll be looking at more than $70. Pretty pricey for us for a mid week but there seems to be plenty of other takers. Great experience but we probably won't be racing back with plenty of options available in the area.
C. U.
Long queue is expected, around 45 minute ish line, so come there early to avoid the q. Everyone is busy and everything moves in a fast pace, I would not recommend this place for intimate first date, but definitely a place to hang out and enjoy a pizza or two.
Their funghi pizza was beyond delicious, the taste was unique, the fresh ingredients and chewy pizza base combination sends me to overeat state of stomach 😂. Totally recommend that pizza, the eggplant pizza taste basic and did not surprise me in any way (it taste just like pizza.. nothing special).
funghi all the way!!!
M. T.
Simply amazing pizza, couldn't believe it was totally vegan! Even if you're a meat eater you'll love this place. Great dessert and drinks selection too with prompt - albeit not the friendliest - service. A must if you're in the area.
J. S.
Food and atmosphere is amazing, even after a 40min wait this place is worth it. Unfortunately the service is awful with the wait staff more concerned with prancing around looking good than actually taking orders. We had to stop or call a waitress EVERY time we needed something. I'm sure if we hadn't we might have waited inside as long as we did inside. Small but tasty wine list but the vegan pizzas are why we came and they don't disappoint coming out of the oven hot, fresh and fast.
b.
Absolutely amazing food... What's even more amazing is that it's all vegan. Top notch. Best pizza I've ever had and retains an authentic handcrafted Italian taste no questions asked. You pay for quality here. Very efficient. This place sets the bar high
M. B.
A nice place, relatively quick service (being there at the opening at 6pm on a Saturday night). Food is nice and lots of different options for a vegan pizzeria. I like led the pizza even though it wasn't the "wooow" I was expecting after speaking to some of my friends beforehand. The only drawback (which is quite a pull off for me) is that's is getting hot in there. No aircon is understandable but not even some fan to cool down the air when the fire oven is on is simply not bearable. With all my friends we ended up sweating (and we were at the opposite side of the cooking area). I'm not the first to say it so would be great if they can improve this for a better customer experience.
Y. X.
Love the Arancini! The potato pizza with trifle oil is amazing! Basically every pizza is pretty great.
The place is cute, a bit more like a cute restaurant in Europe. They serve half bottles size of wine, which is perfect for 2.
They're always busy. It's often that they have a line at the door. It's a sham e that they don't take reservations. But it's worth the wait.
B. K.
Ridiculously good calzone! Their vegan ricotta is just an incredibly creamy goodness.. Alongside fried aubergine its just insanely good. Had a pizza with artichokes as well but I prefer pizzas with thinner and crispier crust. This one is still thin but a bit more chewy which is really good too. Crazy good vanilla cannoli.
K. S.
Good quality vegan pizza though a bit on the expensive side. Great vegan desserts and vibe. Would be great if opened during the day. Only open at night.
Loud and deafening music. Dinners talk over and so not ideal fir a quiet meal or night out. Mostly young and hippie crowd.
Keeps customers lining up outside whilst tables are free inside. Good marketing ploy but bad for customers, good businesses shouldn't be doing that.
O. M.
Vegan Italian. Seems like no other place I have ever been too,and yet SO yummy and seemingly SO popular! (Due to the lines up outside EVERY night). So no reservations requested, please be human for good food-man and line up to secure a spot. Please note the worthiness of the incredible customer service and the unbeknownst vegan-istic Italian food. Yummest V I ever did see (and eee..at.) Will hunger or have-to-have-gigi overule???
G. G.
The arancini were delicious, the mushroom and chicory pizza was great and the tiramisu was delicious.
I can't believe it was all vegan food, one of the rare times that the premium is actually worth it.
C. M.
I am flexitarian. This restaurant is totally plant based. The food is delicious and you forget that it is plant based. The negative point for me is the loud music and the lack of light inside the restaurant. It is very hard to have a conversation.
R. C.
Excellent pizza. Other reviewers are true in saying however, it's best not to ask for ANY CUSTOMIZATIONS on your food as they will snap at you. I suppose they have had people customize stuff and it turned out bad/ discredited the business with photos of someone's invented slop. In any case, order what's on the menu and you'll have a great time.
M. Q.
I had my expectations really high for this one given the abundance of reviews and hype. Place is nice and vibrant, and it's in one of my favourite spots in Sydney, Newtown. Service was fast and friendly waiters. The pizzas, however, were not impressive. Ingredients are OK but dough can be more crispy. And they cost way more than the value they add.
g. l.
seemed really good just dissapointed it was only take away had to go somewhere else :((
A. N.
Amazing pizza, can't even tell its vegan. Love the blue cheese mushroom one
R. W.
Great pizzeria. Vegetarian and vegan friendly.
Atmosphere was great on a Wednesday night.
They not only serve pizza, but tapas and finger foods.
The wine menu is Italian and have nice boutique beers on tap.
A. G.
Loved this place. Definitely one of my favorite vegan restaurants in the city. Everything is very authentic Italian and tasty, I'm even going to bring my Italian friend here - something I wouldn't do at just any old Italian restaurant. A little pricy, but totally worth it.
S. I.
Pizza was yum! Great to share. A little difficult if you have a large group and don't book, definitely recommend booking. Definitely not fast food, be sure to not show up an hour before close, they will accept you but can get a little rushy near closing time.
P. S.
This is great pizza. Some of the best I've ever had.
If you love great pizza don't let the vegan ingredients scare you off, give Gigi a go.
Note, if you are trying to avoid disposable stuff just be sure to specify "no straw" and specify your drinks in a real cup.
Was surprised to have our digestifs arrive in disposable cups!
K. l.
Every day, this place gets packed and you'll always be seeing lines out their door. At one point we thought they were lining up for a concert/event. So be prepared and come a little bit earlier.
The tables were close together and almost close enough to elbow the next table over. It's best to know what you want when you get there as once the waiter leaves, it can get awkward calling them back to order. It's due to how busy and pack it gets.
Their pizza are probably light on the toppings for my liking and pricey.
However despite that, the highlight would have to be their calzones. And their cashew cheeses. As a vegan restaurant, their non dairy cheese is one of the best and hard to replicate. Melts like real cheese and taste stronger then most real cheese.
But if you do go here, I recommend getting the calzones in any flavour. They are filling and worth the wait and gets me coming back.
a. f.
Pros:Amazing pizza,
great service with a smile even though it was very busy.
Cons: music was slightly too load for me couldn't hear myself speaking.
R. M.
At first I was sceptical about vegan pizza. After all, I'm a man who loves his dairy! However the pizza I had at Gigi was the best damn pizza I've ever had. My girlfriend rated it as food as (if not better than) the pizza she had in Italy. The beer, cocktail and soft drink options were excellent. Anyone who marks this place down for service, probably hasn't experienced what it's like to wait in a packed, busy restaurant. The ambience is alive, get lost in the buzz but still have good conversation without having to yell. Five stars.
T. D. S.
This place is straight up dope. Amazing pizza - get the potato rosemary truffle, it was 🔥!!
Also going vegan I thought I'd never have tiramisu every again. Wrong. This place has a banging tiramisu.
The staff are nice and atmosphere was great on a Saturday night.
The wine we had wasn't the best and the only downside on an otherwise awesome experience.
I'll be back for sure and is now one of my favorites places in Sydney.
B. G.
Vegan Pizza? Don't condemn it until you've tried it. This appears to be a very popular place. The music was loud but good, the service was very friendly and efficient, the food arrived quickly and tasted bloody lovely.
P. S.
Dude Gigi is the bomb dot com. The doughs of their pizza is sensational, puffy crust, light, tasting dough, fresh quality toppings. The place makes you wet. I recommend going through the whole menu, I have and I haven’t been disappointed. My favourites are still the Arancini balls, Aspagarus pizza (not on the menu anymore?), the potato, the pear salad... I think I’ll just name the whole menu... Also be sure to check the specials board, because there is is just too many things I want.
The negative are definitely the lines, and the phones, they’re always engaged with people ordering.
Z. W.
They do the absolutely best pizzas we've had anywhere(and that's including italy), and they're all vegan too! Talk about a healthy pizza! Their arancini balls are also delicious, and the vegan tiramisu is quite good too.
c. m.
AMAZING FOOD. Amazing service.
If youre vegan and you want to drag youre non vegan friends to a place that won't disappoint, this is the place to be. The pizza is amazing and all made freshly on the spot. My personal favourite is their pizza on the Special board which is pumpkin puree and potato pizza, I didn't like pumpkin before I ate that pizza but they converted me.
The dessert is good but I've had better tiramisu and cannoli elsewhere.
Generally expect to wait 30 mins to 1 hour for a table depending on how large your group is.
AMAZING FOOD. Would definitely recommend to both vegans and non vegans.
C. C. (.
Vegan pizza, great starters and drinks with friendly staff.
It started off at 6pm being quiet but gradually got busy, which didn't date away from the delicious food.
We both had a different pizza and one with non dairy cheese was as good if not better than the real deal.
Will go again, and take friends.
S. C.
Delicious vegan pizza. Spinach calzone was my favorite. Even more delicious tiramisu. I never would have known that it was vegan. Great night out. Thanks for the recommendation, Katie!
L. C.
A great place to bring someone who is lactose intolerant and loves pizza without compromising on taste. The pizzas were so flavourful we forgot there was no cheese on them - you know when that happens that's a good pizza.
A. K.
Took a take away from this place and the pizza was too good.
N. H.
Delicious vegan pizzas with superb pizza base. Small range of food on the menu, but done well. Pizza base was thin and light. We started with arancini balls which were really tasty. The highlights for our group was the pizzas, and my favs were the cavolo and patate.

The first thing that strikes you when you walk in is the amazing vibe pumping out of this authentic Italian pizza joint. The ultra-friendly staff, are clearly trained by owners who take pride in what they do. The Primavera pizza is fresh, as is the sorbet. Great value too! Perfetto!
D. D.
Possibly/easily the best Italian vegan restaurant in Sydney, hands down. Super friendly and efficient staff. I don't know the chef but he and his team are simply geniuses, never been in a vegan place that tastes this good! Try anything and everything that has their vegan parmesan cheese... incredible.
The restaurant is really popular, so expect a queue from Thu-Sunday. I believe they don't take reservations so plan ahead.
L. S.
To be honest the pizza is the best I've ever had in Sydney. But very disappointed with the service. They were unfriendly and grumpy. The music was very loud. We asked to put the volume down but have been told that is not possible. But it still worth it to go there for pizzas. They are made in rustic original way in wood fired oven with typical Italian ingredients.
G. e.
The taste of the pizza is good even though they don't have cheese, it is a little bit strange to make a vegan pizza. Their Pomodoro salad is excellent. Only 3 beers in their menu? The service is fast but a little bit impersonal.
J. R.
Wonderful spot for anyone looking for plant based pizza's. The dough is wonderfully crafted and the toppings are devine. The Calzone's are definitely a must have and I'd say they are probably the best items on the menu. The use of a pumpkin puree to emulate the melted cheese; is not only tasty, but a top cheese substitute. A must visit for carnivores, vegetarians and vegans alike.

Nice Service & amazing Food . Perfect combination 👌🏼🍕🍻
G. R.
I went there last night with my fiancee for dinner. Went there with some scepticism because, coming from Italy, I wasn't sure the quality could be up to it. Almost 9 years I've been calling Australia home, I've been vegan for the past 2 years and last night' pizza was, by far, the best pizza I've ever had since I got to Australia if not one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Porcini stuffed arancini for entree were amazing and the tiramisu was literally to die for! No difference whatsoever between traditional and vegan. Great and quick service made the whole experience unreal. Definitely going back there when we next come to Sydney!
Z. B.
This is the best pizza in Newtown. I've only had the takeaway but they churn it out in 10 minutes. The base is chewy (in a good way) and light, and the toppings are fresh, tasty and plentiful. Gigi's has a lot of uncommon topping combinations but I pretty much go with anything involving tomato, prosciutto and cheese.
C. B.
Enjoyed the peanuts with a glass of wine before ordering. We had the funghi radicchio pizza and pomodoro salad to share for two which was plenty. Very tasty but pizza base was a bit stodgy and could have had been thinner (especially the edges) with more olive oil and crispier. This is the second visit but not as good as a year ago.
D.
Had to wait for almost 2hr for a group of 15. Understand they don't take reservations but many other people were let go through while we waited from 7 till 8.45pm.
Pizza was good though, my suggestion is to offer an alternative to all the vegan option, just in case someone feels like a margherita.
A. D.
I'm not vegan and I still prefer traditional pizza with mozzarella or other cheeses. However, Gigi's vegan alternative is fantastic. The dough is perfectly Napoleatan and the ingredients are premium quality. Also the vegan Tiramisù is delicious. Only thing I don't like: too hipster for my liking.
B. R. A.
Vegan pizzas. They're not your ordinary pizza but they're great in different ways (and probably heaps healthier). Had a couliflower one and another with potato and pumpkin. Both were amazing and unexpected. It's always packed so arrive early and with some time.
J. C.
So much hype about Gigi’s and it’s famous pizzas and the HYPE is exactly true. Dined here on Saturday night and definitely worth the wait to line up for the doors to open. The food is absolutely sensational. The pizzas even though are vegan are absolutely delicious. Definitely five stars. The potato crocchettes and delicious and the focaccia is outstanding. Fantastic food and above and beyond five star service from our lovely waitress Rose. What an asset to the business is Rose and truly hope management recognise the outstanding customer service that Rose provides to her customers.
From all of us dining tonight Thankyou kindly and we cannot wait to return.
Highly RECOMMENDED
F. L.
Absolutely amazing! Worth the long wait in line. Great vegan pizzas with fresh ingredients that are just the same boring norm. Dessert was to die for! Vegan cannoli = amazing!
D. B.
The best vegan pizza in the galaxy.
Great Staff. All the staff have great attitude and the vibe in the restaurant it always happy and great.
The dessert is amazing and quite impressive because is so delicious and don’t have any animal product.
J. T.
I initially didn’t have high expectations as I thought cheeseless pizzas were blasphemy but they are AMAZING. This place completely makes up for the lack of cheese and meats by bringing out all the rich flavours of the vegetable toppings. I highly recommend the pumpkin foldover pizza. The pumpkin filling is extremely creamy and to die for!
The atmosphere was very cosy, perfect for a night out, and the staff were all friendly.
M. D.
Very good woodfire pizzas, service is friendly and efficient.
My only gripe is that they should indicate the menu is totally vegan, we were caught by surprise.
Oh and also the place is quite dark, we had to use our phone torch to read the menu.
G. P.
Amazing place - from the service, to the quality of food, speed at which the food was served, and overall experience this was one of the best pizza experiences I have had in Sydney. The fact that it is a vegan/vegetarian (apologize for being innaccurate) spot shouldnt deter you from going. Any pizza or appetizer you get will be delicious, but i highly recommend the tiramisu dessert - BOMB. Will be back again!!
M. V.
I have been coming to Gigi's for 3 years now and I am honestly OBSESSED! Go to order is always the melanzane pizza (marinated eggplant with tomato, garlic and pesto) and a vanilla cannoli for dessert. Best vegan pizzas around. And their vegan cheese is great quality too!
N. A.
Gigi's pizzeria needs to be on anyone's eating list, regardless of whether they're vegan or not (they only serve vegan 🍕). Their pizzas are fantastic, and you the veganism obviously cannot put any constraints on the chef's culinary imagination. There's a great selection of different types of pizza. Do yourself a favour and try the vegan tiramisu. Add a glass of Spritz to it ;)
Y. Y. ..
Delicious! Never knew a vegan pizza place could taste this nice. Even the salad! Be sure to get there at 6pm because it fills up real fast!
H. P.
My partner and I shared the funghi e radicchio and the colzone con melanzane (Eggplant calzone). Pizza was pretty plain with a lot of flavourless radicchio but very little blue cheese. Calzone was one of the tastiest things either of us has ever had from a pizza place. The tree nut ricotta was 10/10
A. G.
Authentic delicious pizza that we forgot was vegan. It’s a new favourite when we’re able to wait to eat. Also the tiramisu was pretty special - You’ll find yourself saying “I can’t believe it’s not dairy”
P. H.
I had been hearing about Gigis from long time. Being a vegetarian, i was excited about this place. To be honest i felt this place is quite over hyped. The Pizza's were ok and the mushroom starter also was average. The pizzas were too oily and lacked the taste... Thr staff were quitr good and we got our order within 10 mins.. Overall a average experience.
j. b.
I was already going to leave this place an amazing view just based on the food and service but that was before my partner asked me to marry him while we were eating here (spoiler, I said yes!) But what entailed at the hands of the staff here after makes me want to write this review even more! A lovely waiter was quick thinking and kind enough to capture the moment by taking a photo and the restaurant was so lovely to celebrate with us and bring us Champaign and dessert. They made an already memorable experience that much more special by being so thoughtful! Special thanks to the waiter that captured the moment for us to keep and to the other staff and talented chefs that prepared such amazing food! We will be back when we next visit Sydney! Thanks a million!
A. O.
Loved it, the pizza was fantastic. The vegan tiramisu had no right to be as good as it was. It was so good.
T. J.
Best pizza hands down. Even my non-vegan Italian friends agree. Place has great atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Can't visit Sydney without going to Gigi's Newtown.
W. B.
Vegan food needs to be better, this is no exception. Gigi does great pizza it just lacks the cheesy element in what ever form.
R. M.
Stumbled upon this place while walking past on a Sunday night. It was pretty busy but still found a table for 2. Ordered one pizza, the one with broccoli. It took a while to come out but that was expected as it was very busy. In the mean time they offered us complimentary peanuts. The pizza tasted great, fresh base
with a fluffy crust. I'm usually worried the melted cheese will turn rubbery by the end of the pizza but it remained melted and delicious. Great atmosphere, dim lighting, medium music, friendly staff.
G. F.
Pizza was good (for being without mozzarella), wine good too. Service was polite but very cold and unfriendly, hence my 3 stars. As someone else said here the guy was too cool to serve. I won't hurry to come back.
J. S.
OMG THE FOOD!!! I’m Not Vegan But 100% best pizza in Sydney Great Area to be In everyone Is so nice Please Go there even in COVID you WONT REGRET IT They are quick And efficient
Even If your not vegan I recommend it The pizzas Are the best
G. m.
Truly magnificent proof that we don't need animal products at all to experience dining excellence. Vegan or not, this is a must for anyone wanting a masterful Italian meal. From the pizza to the cannoli, Gigi's Pizzaria produces top class food, the veganism is incidental.
S. J.
I had such a good time and Lorenzo is amazing! Very nice guy and professional, he made sure we were happy and well served. I will definitely come back!
B. M.
Mate, best pizza of my bloody life. I eat here all the time, and its just the best. Top tip: Get there early (6pm) for quick entry, but if ya gotta wait in line, it's 110% worth it. Made me never wanna have Dominoes again that's for sure! Plus, everything is vegan, how fair dinkum is that? Bring ya sheilas here or take ya nan who won't even know it's vegan.

About a 20min wait to get inside. Staff was very friendly and quick on their feet to get u started. We ordered 2 items from the pizza menu and got 2 calzones instead. The pumpkin puree was nice but didnt notice any cheese on it or if its meant to have any. The cauliflower puree with artichoke calzone was very plain 😓.
S. M.
Truly astonishing. Vegan pizzas that actually taste like Italian pizzas, that's a real performance. And I know my stuff, I've travelled around Italy quite a lot, trying the best pizzas in the country including in the Napoli region. Gigi's pizzas don't reach that perfect level but they're honestly not too far from it. I also had the tiramisu which was absolutly delicious and lighter than usual tiramisus, which is a plus for digestion after you devoured a full pizza. Staff is fine, and the place is clean. Come around 6.30 and you shouldn't wait. Come later and you'll probably have to.
J. D.
Best pizza I've tasted, even without the cheese! Marinara and asparagi are for sure the picks. Love the funky wine bar vibe too. Never had a bad time here and will be coming back forever.
E. H.
Wow the pizza is crisp and salty and fresh and it's all gone!!! I dare say the best pizza in Sydney. The staff were also very helpful and accommodating. If your going do watch out for the queues which seem to be constant and for good reason.
A. B.
BEST VEGAN PIZZA! My Fiance and I ate here last night and couldn't fault them in any way the service and food was beyond my expectations - My Fiance is not a vegan eater at all but enjoyed the vegan pizza and spoke highly of the vanilla cannoli - we will definitely be back :)
The Cauliflower puree pizza is definitely one to try!
I. F.
Delicious pizza ! I am a pizza lover and I am used to the traditional way. I got really surprised with the taste which is amazing . Totally recommend !
J. H.
I love this place, it really is 'the best pizza'. I keep going back and bring different friends, they all love it. The pizza base is perfect and very good toppings-try the potato pizza! I have also had the calzones, they are melted cheese bliss. The desserts are pretty yummy too.
A. K.
Another big favourite of mine. The pizza is done the traditional way. No need to call out any particular pizza on the menu - I've tried a few and they all taste great. It's also a really nice place for a romantic dinner.
K. L.
I just sat down at a 2 seater table & got rudely asked to move to another table as the waiter was making it a 4 table. All the tables around me are free. There was no reasoning for this. I politely asked if i cld stay at the table i sat down at & was pushily asked to move. Not a great first impression.
But then the other fabulous staff & service & vegan pizza made up for it!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love this place
C. D.
Loved this place before they went vegan and its even better now! The pizza toppings are delicious and somehow creamy, so you genuinely don't miss meat or cheese! And apparently the tiramisu is amazing so I'm going to have to go back soon to try it out
H.
Food - 2/2
Ambience - 1/1
Vegan and Vegetarian options - 1/1
Service - 1/1
Gigi Pizzeria has to be one of my favourite VEGAN pizza outlets in Sydney. I had the Calzone with dairy free ricotta, fried eggplant, basil topped with grated dairy free cheese. This dish was not a part of the main menu but the specials. We also ordered for Panelle, which had gave us a good savoury kick start to our meal. The tiramisu is excellent, make sure you have some space for dessert. Just a 2 minute walk from Newtown station, this place can get super crowded on weekends. So be early and plan way before time!
C. N.
This is indeed the holy grail of pizzeria in Sydney, and dare I say globally.
2 yrs ago while in Italy I visited a few pizzerias and was not as impressed as i was at Gigi's in Newtown.
Nothing better than great food and excellent in a restaurant - keep up the gr8 work guys and girls.
M. G.
Who would have guessed that a vegan pizza could be so good?
I was quite scheptical at the beginning but after trying it I have to say this place serves delicious food. Staff is friendly and attentive too.
M. L.
I am not in love with the pizza here (although you can't deny how packed the restaurant is every. Night ) I do, however, enjoy some of their entrees, the calzone and the desserts!... ESPECIALLY THAT TIRAMISU! I haven't had a good tiramisu since before going vegan!
EDIT: I usually have an ok experience but tonight was the worst. Waiter was obviously sick and tired of serving, and it showed on his face as well as the lack of welcome. Waitress accidentally backed into him as he was walking past and there was a moment of tension that felt uncomfortable to be around.
They changed the menu slightly and the olives offered from the entree page were incredibly salty. The rocket salad was hardly flavoured with anything else but olive oil (I had to wipe my mouth regularly, and big slouches of oil were seen on my napkin). The only items ordered that my partner and I enjoyed were the calzone on special and the tiramisu. Except we had to wait 5 mins with our hands in the air waiting while another waiter 3 tables down was chatting and wouldn't acknowledge us. The waitress was behind the kitchen. They were obviously working, but by that time of night, there weren't any new orders as most customers had been there for a while already and it wasn't bustling (we were seated right at the entrance). We ended up ordering our dessert by walking to the kitchen to get service. The highlight was being asked for a tip during payment. Sorry, but a tip is deserved when service is regular, and friendly throughout our time there NOT just when we're paying.
S. M.
I'm not vegetarian, but I find myself in vego and vegan restaurants pretty often with my girlfriend. I thought this place was okay (vegetarian pizza is easy, vegan pizza is harder) but nothing amazing - e.g I think the truffle paste on one was a bit over the top, the sauce was a bit too wet on one of the others, etc. Would be four stars but the service was a little unfriendly and the prices (by Newtown standards) were higher than I expected.
D. C.
Like being in napoli. Just perfect marinara and pastiera alla napoletana
R. N.
Reasonably good pizza and a nice place but it felt like they were just rushing to push us out the door
c.
Staff were ugly and borderline creepy. The pizza was good but extremely oily and dense. Not sure if their grandiose plans to turn to this into Sydney's happening hipster utopia was successful but applause for going vegan. Perhaps only teething problems for a possible successful future.
R. H.
I have been to Napoli 7 times, so I feel I know a good Napoli style pizza when I eat one, and this place is spot on with their dough and sauce. Up there with the best I had in Napoli. The vegan toppings are actually amazing too!
B. W.
Who would've thought vegan pizzas could taste this good! It was the closest to Da Michelle pizza I've ever had! And the desserts were delicious too! We had a tiramisu from the blackboard and the orange polenta cake. Both were moist and full of flavour.
N. D. P.
Simply the best pizza I have ever had! Friendly stuff. Fast service. Love the vibe of the place. And what really amazing is it is all vegan!
S. F.
I've been to Gigi's maybe 6 or 7 times... and I almost always get the 4-cheese pizza. And it's ALWAYS good. Because of Gigi, I now love blue cheese.
The service is usually pretty good, but they're not super attentive near closing time and can often take a while to come around to see if you need something more.
R. B.
Im not vegan, but Gigi's is a must visit when you are in Newtown. It actually changes people's minds about vegan food... it's that good. My favourite dish is any of the ricotta calzones. They taste like ricotta, but don't leave the easy taste on your mouth. The desserts are a must-try too!
M. L.
The vegan pizza's here were so good! Toppings were so fresh and I just wanted more! Will certainly come back again soon with my friends.
F. A.
Great pizza and service. Probably one of the best in Sydney. Only one negative feedback no kids menu or simple options ( pasta etc ) for kids.
T. T.
I would usually preface this with "for a vegan place it's good..." however this place stands out as just a great pizza place. Fresh ingredients, super good dough and base. I should have come back sooner. The asparagus pizza. OMG
P. W.
3.5 stars. Nice, vegetarian pizza, ruined at the end by poor service. It's a bit hard to order drinks as they're not the most attentive. The lady at the till was very rude. They add a credit card surcharge which we didn't see mentioned on the menu anywhere, and when I asked about it she mumbled something incoherent. Shame about the stuck up service.
A.
The BEST vegan pizza in Sydney. Love love love this place, recommend to anyone who wants to take friends and family who aren’t vegan, out to dinner. My favourite is the calzone on the specials board.
M. R.
I came here for takeaway pizza, which thus far is the best I've had in Sydney. The pizzas are all classics. You won't find a Hawaiian or some detestable Ninja Turtles movie tie in pizza here. Even the marinara is the classic Italian one without the seafood we've erroneously come to expect in our antipodean land. The service doesn't seem too friendly at a cursory glance, but I came here to get my pizza and go home so I can't comment any further on that.
E. M.
Pretty simple space and packed to the brim. Fairly attentive service. But who cares about all that when you have one of the best pizzas in town. Wow loved the pizza. Home made pasta and cannoli were also fab but the pizza is what I would go back for. Loved it.
M. K.
The new all-vegan menu is astonishing, and the staff are great. I would however like slightly higher light levels: I found the menu difficult to read because it was so dark and have shift seats because facing the window the glare from the streetlights outside into the darkened interior was making it hard for me to see my dining companion.
V. K.
I had no idea I was eating vegan pizza - it was so delicious and tasty. All their pizzas are great. The arancini balls (also vegan) are a must
T. D.
One of the best pizza bases I have ever had. The toppings are amazing and for none vegans you wouldn’t even notice because the flavours are so good.
M. S.
No water was offered to us and when we asked for it a glass covered with lipstick was given to my friend. We paid by cash and each of us put their share but to our surprise waiter didn't bother to bring our change assuming they got 11 dollar tip. When we asked for our change he told us to be clear about our intentions next time . Sorry but we come from Europe and we expect the change to be returned, if we happy we will leave you a tip upon leaving.
Food and beer is great but some good manners are needed too.
l. B.
Our party of nine, seven of whom are non vegans, enjoyed an amazing meal at Gigi’s last night.
The sceptics of the group soon had new a new found appreciation of vegan food. Gigi’s has taken vegan food to another level.
We all had a really enjoyable experience. Gigi’s ticked all the boxes.
M. E.
Finally got to try their new plant-based menu.
Amazing! Gigi's quality has just improved now that his produces have less inpact on our environment and on our health. I confirm it again as my favorite pizzeria in Sydney and the wood oven really does make the different. Very satisfied with their Cavolo pizza and Orangecake and Pastiera were absolutely delicious.
Great job guys, love what you're doing and I fully support you. 👍
S. A.
The food is very delicious I would highly recommend the food especially the Calzone. The only reason I am giving them a 4 star instead of 5 is because one of the staff members kept debating about veganism with my friend who wasn't vegan and it make us really uncomfortable.
R. S.
Its ok, nothing special. Pizza base was great but overall i dont see the hype. I've eaten there twice, both times i expected more. Also its vegan if that floats your boat. One plus you dont feel like death after eating a whole pizza.
S. R.
Food wise I cant rate it higher. The pizzas are the best I've had yet and Sydney has some great pizza places. The portions are generous so won't disappoint. The restaurant gets very busy and doesn't take bookings so be prepared to wait or get in early. The service is ok, can't rave about that though.
G. B.
I ordered broccolli pizza and got spinach pizza
Tasted nice but when I asked where is the broccolli, the waItress told me the Italian word for spinach is broccolli
Really ???
M.
Amazing vegan pizza! The sauce and the dough are just delicious
A.
Amazing pizza and even more amazing dessert just ruined a little by the 45min queue as the last three times I dined here there were many tables free however all hosts seemed to be intentionally not seating people. Happy to wait in line if it's for a good reason but not if it's just for show.
j. g.
Great pizzas and entrees- lucky, as they arrived at the same time. Efficient service but we felt very rushed. In and out in less than 30 mins and $120 later. Great turnover but less so the dining experience. Anyhoo, judging by the hoards waiting to get in, they're on a winner.
L. D.
After deciding last minute where to go on this Saturday night, we ended up dining at Gigi's. I recall from internet reviews the service was not so great and the time waiting for your meals was lousy, some time ago. Well, we found the opposite on this busy night with the delivery of our pizza's.... The staff did warn us about - their would be a 30 minute wait for pizzas prior to our ordering, and they were almost spot on, it took approx. 31 minutes for our pizza's to arrive (Yes, I did make it a point of checking the time, not a long wait at all on a busy Newtown Sat night) Maybe they just got around in fixing up some of those service difficulties they were having in the past. The pizza's and salad was sensational. The experience great all round. we'll be going back for sure. Loz 15/6/13

Gigi's offers excellent pizzas with a crust of perfect thickness, and rich, quality toppings.
I like the look and feel of this place, it somehow manages to avoid the stupid hipster youth styling of the inner west, which I consider such a curse. In it's place it instead exudes a touch of class and sophistication.
My favourite pizzas have always been the fairly traditional Hawaiian and Meatlovers varieties, and they must be wood fired. A tiny part of me (or at least, my stomach) dies when a pizza restaurant hands me a pizza with a thick, bready crust. Luckily, the pizza crust at this establishment is ideal. Thin enough so as to not take away from the toppings, but thick and solid enough to produce a good base, that doesn't fall apart in your hands. This is surprisingly rare, and a good thing to see when the polite and friendly staff hand you your round-ish food-like object. The pizzas are also cooked just right, in a wood-fired oven. No burnt bits here.
Continuing on, the toppings are delicious and generously spread. I like my pizzas with toppings to spare, and this place usually impresses. The sauces are also quite good, and applied evenly. If a pizza isn't your thing (at which point, I ask with a great amount of concern "what on earth is wrong with you?"), this eatery also does some pretty damn nice calzones. In fact, I'm bloody hungry just reading this review back. I want both now.
Gigi's is certainly worth a visit if you haven't been before, it's absolutely one of the best Pizza-joints in the inner west.
B. C.
You have to go to this pizzeria. I would say this goes down as some of the best pizza I have ever had. The vegan cannoli is a must too! Be sure to expect a queue but it is so worth it! Fab staff too!
M. P.
Absolutely love Gigi’s. Their pizza is spectacular. All really delicious. Amazing chilli oil too. Love it
B. I.
i tried two different pizza's here the other night. the staff was super friendly, recommended what they thought would be best that day, and left us alone to finish our dinner and wine even though we were there past closing time. i would highly recommend going here if you like a real italian pizza experience.
K. R.
Can't believe it's not ricotta!
The food is great, even the non-vegans enjoyed themselves, and the service is fantastic. Also, did I mention the ricotta filling for the calzone is just incredible?
j.
Best plant based pizza I have ever had. Perfect Italian restaurant.
C. X.
Very soft chewy crust living up to the hype of certified napoli (?) pizza. The inside was a tiny little bit soggy, but the taste and the outer crust definitely makes up for it. There are no reservations so expect to wait a little if you don't want to head in early on the weekends - otherwise, you can always take away to eat in Newtown's many park and public areas
A. J.
Nice place
Good vibe
Ok value (sometimes a little overpriced)
Nice food (sometimes burnt crust, please fix this issue or remove the black parts for the customer)
I hope to come back again
A. B.
Fantastic Pizza, easily one of if not the best in Sydney! Cooked fresh and delivered right to your table that it happens to be vegan is besides the point. Just darn good pizza.
D. U.
Even for seasoned meat eaters, this vegan pizza place is delicious. Good variety of pizzas and drinks. Waiters are fast and courteous. Highly recommended.
R. M.
I can’t believe how good their vegan cheese is! The pizza bases are incredible here, my favourite in the area. Always worth the wait for a table at this place!
K. B.
This is a brilliant restaurant - one of the best in Sydney - and I’m not even a vegan!
FIRSTLY - How hilarious is it that the people who write bad reviews are basically demanding non-vegans who are feeling guilty or whingers who hate how popular Gigi’s is because it means they might need to wait for a table?? Haha. Move on, silly people. (And leave your custard at home already!)
SECONDLY - thank you to Gigi’s for exceptional food, time after time, and for service that efficient and personal and FUN. My favourite is the patate pizza because the olive tapenade is to die for. The croquettes in toasted almond flakes are the stuff dreams are made of. My husband would possibly MARRY the asparagi pizza if it was an option (it’s cool, I get it) and my new found obsession is the Melazane... although the rucola salad is something I crave every second day. (I’m not even starting on the desserts because I’m trying to be healthy, with summer and all that).
All that to say that anyone who doesn’t love Gigi’s is... well... not someone who I agree with. Get amongst it guys... Gigi’s is honestly the best discovery ever.
A. A.
Pasta tasted like I dipped my fork into a pesto jar, too much pesto. I liked the eggplant pizza though.
F.
I love their vegan menu. Really delicious and unique Pizza and great service. Also, I think the music was perfect, my gf and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
B. B.
Everything I had be it desert or pizza was delicious. They were really busy and I dropped in whilst waiting for a show to start and they got me a seat and were quick with the meals despite being flat out.
I highly doubt anyone violently forced their beliefs on that woman said so in her reviews. Doesn't make sense at all.
A. W.
Absolutely amazing food. Lovely friendly staff. Cute, warm venue. The pizza and arancini were too delicious for words and the wine was lovely too. Highly recommended even if you need to wait for a table.
C. H.
I really dig Gigis - it has the feel of a friendly neighbourhood pizzeria with a bit of the refinement of a fine dining establishment. Delicious pizza - very greattttt flavours. Wait staff are attentive without being annoying. Really spot on! Definitely recommended.
J. H.
Classic vegan restaurant, a must for newtown first timers. Cannot make reservations so just rock up 15 mins before opening and you'll be fine. Pizzas and salads are amazing.
J. v. B.
Fantastic vegan pizzas with fluffy dough bases and fresh ingredients. There is often a line so arrive at non peak times for the best chance of getting a table.
S. P.
Vegan pizza is awesome. We had the eggplant which was yummy. The mushroom one was slightly disappointing. Salad nothing special. Have the pizza!
L. R.
Fabulous service, wonderfully rustic & authenic Italian cuisine, cocktails and waitstaff and an incredible array of vegan delicacies at their very finest. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, regardless of whether they enjoy a plant-based diet or not!
R. T.
Just writing about Gigi's makes me feel zippy! It's a brilliant pizza place! A great plant based restaurant with a splendid menu and an exuberant variety of wines and other alcohol beverages.
S.
Food came soon after it was ordered and was amazing! Definitely worth your while whether you are vegan or not.
G. G. E.
Amazing vegan food! (we didn't know until we sat down, but no regrets at all)
F.
Chill ambience, great service, delicious food, and beautiful set-up. Perfect for dinner with a friend or two. Long queue (although we did visit on Valentine’s Day), but you’ll understand why. First, and will certainly not be our last. Grazie!
A. B.
Excellent pizza! Best pizza in the town 💪💪💪
G. K.
If you haven't tried their Tiramisu you are living the wrong life. Also I'm not sponsored despite same name lol. Excellent vegan pizza and starters, cocktails were great!

Great atmosphere and delicious pizza/italian - what more could you want? The service is always friendly.

Bit of a queue out front even on a mid week evening but quick pizza service once you're in and have ordered.
The pizzas themselves are very good with topping combinations that work well together.

Years in and they still don't sell Gluten Free Pizza Bases. They're popular so the fact that they miss out on a very large known GF clientele in Newtown, understandably doesn't seem to phase them. Acoustics could be much better - it's becoming very difficult for people to dine and hear each other. Thai Pothong is far busier and has no such problems - they should look at what was done there as a suggestion.

Excellent pizza! We had one of the specials, Wagu Beef, for $26. Reasonable price for Wagu, and the Tiramisu awesome. Great coffee too. Was a little busy and the noise level was a little high for quiet talkers, but this made for a vibrant ambience.

Good vibe. Epic long queue at times but worth the wait!
Very close to the best pizza I ever had, little pricey but that's what you get when it's serving a niche vego/vegan market

Inside it's nice. Murals on the wall. Went in winter.. Sat near the storage at the back and there was a draft? Was chilly. Pizzas were 7/10. We had the 4 cheese, the spinach and pork and the capriosa? Not a fan of their base. Somewhat bready. Lasagne was suitably yummy. Service was a bit rude. We walked in off the cold and the woman who was on the phone didnt make any effort to welcome us, nor did the pizza making guy - although that's not his job. So we stood there wwondering if we shouldnt just sit ourselves. But ud think someone at front of house would try to be attentive? I'm a bit scathing because at leicharht, they can't wait to sit you and show u Italian hospitality!!

Calzone and salad was nice, music was a bit loud.
Good for quick pizza.

I like the pizza base. Very expensive though considering vegetable food cost is much lower than meat.

incredible incredible incredible. line is always backed up out the door as a testimony to how good it is, but if you'd like to order takeout and sit in the park just walk in and up to the counter to pay. worth every cent. you'll be back for sure.

This place is amazing. I'm a local and go here all the time! The pizza is true Naples style so it's wood fired, thin and simple but authentic flavours. If you don't like the pizza here then I think you should stick to pizza hut

Ground breaking Pizza. Cant beleive its vegan. Sooo nice. Short stroll from Newtown station. Staff here are very friendly. Nice list of wines and of course a few Italian beers on tap. Plenty of bars around so you can head out for a drink afterwards amd let yaself loose and id recommend doing so as Newtown has plenty of pubs amlnd bars.

This is the best Italian for miles and it’s vegan too, lots of great GF options as well. A real treat, enjoy!

Amazing wood fire pizza. Would recommend getting there early though as they don't accept reservations and the line is generally out the door.

Disappointed. Meagre toppings, albeit on a nice base. Carelessly tossed-together salad, carelessly cut pizza which was luke-warm. Indifferent service. Won't return. Appear to be trading on their reputation.

Atmosphere:
being a bit of a pizza snob, i was interested to try this place as it seemed highly rated, and the fact that on a weeknight there were people lined up outside to be seated as well as highly organised patrons doing quick passenger drop off's and pick ups on busy king street to get their take away.
Food:
We had a calzone which was very generous in size, cooked well and a good amount of fillings and cheese. We also had the Diavolo pizza, with some really punchy hot salami which left a nice warm tingle in your mouth. The surprise of the evening was the desserts... They had run out of our first choice but the waitress suggested the cheesecake. Normally i would pass on a cheese cake, but this was spectacular. Light and fluffy but with a cruncy toffee sprinkled on the top it was a star performer. Pass on the tiramisu, we didn't even finish it.
Overall, for a casual noisy night with some friends this is a good cheap eat.

Really cool place. Staff are really energetic and helpful.
I love Italian food normally but these guys blew me away. Best pizza I've had in a long while.

Best pizza in Sydney. Don’t let the vegan menu scare you off, these pies are seriously good. Traditional Neapolitan style.

I am not vegan but really wanted to try it out. Not one bit disappointed. Awesome food and atmosphere. You can't make a booking so it's best you line up early.

I'm not vegan but still loved everything we ordered. Focaccia and parmigiana are really good, and all the pizzas are delicious.

Best pizza. And it's vegan - they just find the perfect combination and you won't miss cheese or meat on your pizza. Incredible.

Nice vegetarian pizza. My cauliflower pizza had potato mash replacing the usual tomato base, which was a nice idea. The pizza was way too salty though

Absolute favourite restaurant in Sydney! Always busy with a waitlist, but well worth the effort. One of the few vegan restaurants that non vegans love to eat at!

This place has the best pizza I've ever eaten and the cocktails and desserts are yummy too! It's always crowded, busy and loud, I wouldn't call it relaxed but it is so yummy it is still my favourite pizza place.

I love Gigi's and Gigi loves me. I had a lovely time here. The pizza blew my mind away from this planet to another world far, far away. Jar-Jar Binks was not there though, only angels carrying pizza to my mouth! Go there random reader, go there!

One of the best restaurants in town. After going vegan I never thought I'd get to eat pizza that was any good ever again. I was 100% wrong. Love this place!
