The place really came alive after knockoff and I could see why it's a popular watering hole. I look forward to returning someday.

S. B.Very busy on a Friday evening got. Sat outside. A bit chilly no heaters on. Food was well cooked and the chicken schnitzels and chicken parmigana were very tasty. The grilled fish was cooked well and the salad was fresh.

A. O.We usually go every week...we call it gin o'clock....last few times service has been off and disappointing. Food has also slipped we always have cheese plate and a few sides. But as of the last couple of times standards seemed to have gone down hill. We will give it a miss for a month or two....sorry guys

J. C.Made reservation and popped in for Friday night meal in the dining room. Place was buzzing with people in the various other bar areas and gaming room. Enjoyed prawn and crab linguine which was delicious. Highly recommend this meal. The staff were great and meals came out promptly. If you are after a quiet Friday night spot, this place is not for you. However for a casual dining experience, it was great.

K. A.The colonist was a nice looking place, although the drink specials apparently finish at 3pm (who drinks that early?) There was no cocktail menu which was okay I generally have the cocktail and recipe on my phone but the server had a very nice violet gin and tonic recipe they offered us because it was one of his favourites.
This place is nice and the staff works with you to get what your after. The only reason I went with 4 stars is because there was no cocktail menu and the server (while nice and funny) did bring up having to kick us out if we drank to much.
This is obvious and didn't need exclaiming so after our violet gin and tonic we left and walked to the next bar.

J. P.So I have been here a couple of times with my mum. I really do like the food here. I strongly recommend the arancini. They have such delicious flavours. My favourite is the mushroom one with blue cheese sauce. Omg so good. I ordered the crispy squid salad and my mum got the fish and chips. They both came with interesting salads and the sauces where also very nice. I had some sort of habanero zesty aioli and it was very spicy. Also I found the cuts of squid in triangles very unique.
It is quite pricey but it is really good food. If you can I'd done outside it can be a bit dark inside, it doesn't have great natural lighting indoors, it can feel a bit dingy but that's just a personal preference mine.

J.Took my mum and 2 sisters here for Mothers Day lunch. Tables were set beautifully, staff were friendly and the menu was full of options. I had the prawn and crab linguine which was spectacular!! Highly reccomend.
S.Pretty good but could be better. Great drinks list for a pub, particularly wine. Cool fitout. Weirdly no music is a weird vibe. There is a TV scrolling through self-promoting photos of items on the menu, like bacon and eggs or various standard pub meals, and saying like us on facebook. It's very tacky and so unnecessary. Food is OK but pretty overpriced. Presence of pokies is never cool, but that seems to be an Adelaide problem, and atleast they're out of the way.

N. N.I've dined in the restaurant area and the food is lovely. Some dishes are smaller than expected but if u ask them they are very friendly and will guide you to the best dish to suit. Lovely wines and comfortable seating. The chef has been accommodating if I've needed to tweak anything.

K. H.Lights! Camera! Action... walking into The Colonist is like walking back to a simpler times. I’m just your average, American girl but being at the Col made me feel how James Cook must have felt when he discovered this beautiful country. The lovely waitress took us to “restaurant” section, rather than the ”bar”. It was crowded but reminded me of the gastropubs my father would take me to when I visited him in England. Feeling extra nostalgic, I ordered the fish n chips, but got a side salad for health. The fish was good. I tried not too eat too many chips. The salad had spinach. Food was a bit overpriced.
Now let’s talk decor. Lots of wood, including stools, wooden seats adjourned wooden tables, to wood walls. I would describe as woody Art Deco. Only thing not wooden was the chandelier, which is has commanding presence that commands. It is dominating. Local artists work.

E. M.A friend and I wanted to catch up for a "girl's" lunch on a Monday - must haves were a cool glass of white and a tasty light meal. Despite it being a couple of days before Christmas an open venue was hard to find. The Colonist isn't glamorous but it's got a cool, eclectic style and super friendly, attentive staff. We each had a salad adding a seafood option - mine, a mixed lettuce with sliced strawberries and peaches, plus macadamias, radishes and feta. I added perfectly cooked calamari - a wonderful combination! My friend had a warm salad of roast pumpkin with quinoa, currants etc with pan fried salmon....add a glass of Clare Valley Riesling each and it really can't get much better! The Colonist surpassed our expectations. This is no standard pub fare but casual pub dining at it's best. Thank you for a perfect lunch.

M. A.The Colonist in Norwood has a hip and happening vibe. On the friday night we visited it was crowded and noisy with several large Xmas parties inside and out on the street. The bar service was friendly and reasonably quick but there was an unacceptably long wait of 45mins for our simple order of wedges. They were hot and well seasoned when they came but the $12 price was a bit steep. And the tiny glass pots of mayo and sweet chilli sauce were ridiculously fiddly. To be fair though, we saw plenty of delicious looking platters and meals arriving at tables around us and customers seemed happy with the food. Avoid the Sydenham Rd side of the Colonist if you don't smoke. There was a thick fog lingering all night.
L. M.Awesome bohemian atmosphere, feels like a really classy joint. Comfortable chairs. Menu looks great, although the Angus 'sanga I had didn't quite live up to expectations. Tomato jam was too sweet, cheese was bitter, steak was well cooked though. Chips were green and poorly cooked. All that said, would certainly come back.

My stepdad said his pork belly wasn't good. service was okay but when he said the pork belly was tough and a little dry the waitress didn't really care or offer us anything to compensate. A. E.Always a great place to start the day, if it's starting at around 10AM. The Colonist offers a good range of brunch style offerings done well. Sitting back watching life slowly happen around you, while sipping on a rich, well made espresso and allowing the pace of life to settle for a moment.
If, on the other hand, your needing a kickstart after the night before, try one of their Bloody Mary's, it'll get you back and moving.

My stepdad said his pork belly wasn't good. service was okay but when he said the pork belly was tough and a little dry the waitress didn't really care or offer us anything to compensate. Desserts were really good though and the wine and gin selection is good.
