Bartender is always friendly and even when busy will take the time to recommend a new wine or beer. There is a nice sense of community at the front bar too which I absolutely love. This is our 'go to' when we want a decent glass of wine and meal with a lovely atmosphere.

Really fancy bar, loved the vibe, but if you're thirsty, I suggest you go somewhere else. Was initially ingnored and the guy asked me as many questions as you can ask about a gin and tonic. I just want a drink.

Great atmosphere and moody lighting which sets an ideal vibe. Lunch is value for money with the burgers (quarter pounder style one in particular) highly recommend. Craft beer selection is on point.

Came here for breakfast and had one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The vibes were imacculate. The staff were super friendly and great singers! I spilled my iced coffee and they made me a new one no fuss. The food was really good too, the hash browns were the shiz. Will definitely be back, promise not to spill my drink next time!

The best thing about the Hope & Anchor pub was the beef cheeks with asparagus and mash. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender. It was well complemented with crunchy, fresh asparagus and creamy mash, and smothered in a rich, hearty gravy. The brussel sprouts with bacon slices was tasty enough but the portobello mushrooms were a tad oily. As it was a hot steamy night in mid-summer, we sat outside on rather uncomfortable wooden benches, a bit too near the road for my liking. But that seemed preferable to sitting inside, which was a tad gloomy and cramped, and also had hard seating that was equally uncomfortable. Not the kind of place you’d want to linger too long, so fortunately, service was quick and efficient, except for the beef cheeks, which were apparently overlooked, and only came out after everyone else had finished their meals. But as I told the apologetic bartender, it was worth the wait. No-one comes to take your order here (it took us awhile of twiddling our thumbs, before we figured that out, thanks to a hint from fellow patrons), you just go up to the bar counter and give your order to the bartender, who also happens to be the order taker, cashier and general factotum it would seem. But to his credit, and despite juggling multiple roles on a fairly busy night, he was a pretty friendly and polite guy. The toilets are upstairs. They were reasonably clean and well provisioned and there are separate male and female ones with sufficient cubicles to ensure no waiting. Menu was a hit tricky to read with a small font and dim lighting. Acoustics were fair, and, sitting outside, there was not much noise from the other diners. But the road noise and some hoons skateboarding down Given Terrace was a bit of a distraction. With a small tip and after allowing for our $20 Dimmi discount voucher (it took awhile to explain that to the bartender, but luckily I had the paperwork to prove it), we paid $110 for four of us and that included a couple of refreshing pale ales, four mains and two sides of brussel sprouts. That’s reasonable value in these desperate economic times, where a humble cup of coffee sets you back $4, but overall, the lack of comfort and patchy service wouldn’t see me rushing back next time I’m in Brisbane.

This bar is cosy, quirky, with a London pub vibe, so it's a wonderful place to relax, unwind and enjoy the beautiful Brissie lifestyle. The friendly uber cool staff add to the unique atmosphere of this heritage listed cottage, and truly make it magic! The drinks menu is extensive, offering beer & cider on tap by the glass, pint or jug, through to wines, spirits and cocktails. I can highly recommend their bloody Mary, which is perfectly mixed. If you're hungry they offer a small menu which works really well, burgers, french fries and a few dessert classics like cheesecake, pannacotta and a cheese platter. Do check out their website for their food specials, Wednesday is their famous $14 homemade curry and Sunday is their live music party, 2 for 1 burgers with $5 gins from 4pm and lasts all night. This place may look small from the outside but it packs a serious punch on the inside, with lots of lovely pockets to enjoy. Whether you choose to sit alfresco with your pooch at the tables out front, or chill in the courtyard to the side, you can even hire the Captains Attic for a intimate group function, work or special event. No wonder they pride themselves on being "The Best Boozer in Paddington" Mon - Thurs 4pm till late, Fri to Sun - 1pm til late.

Visited here on St Patrick's Day for my birthday. Called to make a booking only a few days before, and god you guys are amazing! Thank you for squeezing us in on a rainy March day, and for keeping our cake in your fridge until you were ready for it. Every staff member we dealt with was phenomenal! Food was great, and you had a great selection of beers on tap. Including Guinness! Hope & Anchor, you are amazing.

Great food. The Hope and Anchor lager is terrific. Make sure you get it by the pint.... the Beef shoulder is fantastic.... and a seat overlooking the action on Given Terrace and you are set for a good time. Book early as there are limited tables. I really enjoyed this bar. The bartender was a very nice woman who helped me pick a drink as I'm not a very experienced drinker. I found myself very easily dragged into some nice chats around the bar and where I was originally kind of nervous to go to this bar that seems a little out of the way I am pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and warm it was here. They have some evenings with live music (can't remember when) but I've walked past and they seem great. Even when they don't the atmosphere was very pleasant. If you can't tell, I liked it here. I will be back. :)

I'm giving this 3 stars but I really wanted to like this place. The drinks were fine, decor and establishment was great, but the meals were all underwhelming. One of our group even commented that it was one of the worst meals ever. Mine was ok. Two of our group had burgers and both said there were better burgers elsewhere. We had a mix up with the meals and we had to wait a few minutes for them to cook another meal but I can live with that. But the food quality was just very average and I hope this was just a bad night for the kitchen and not the norm.

Was very good until we were told we needed to move outside because someone else had a reservation. No mention of a time limit when we made a booking. Had had 3 rounds (4 people) and 3 nibblies plates ($200 approx) and were still drinking the 3rd round when told we'd need to move). Not very well handled. Not good. Not planned. And unreasonable. We'd have likely had another drink and dinner had it not been for this. Very unfortunate end to what had been a very nice afternoon. If they have a 2 hour limit, that's fine. But they need to advise when the booking is made.

This is my favourite local and I love it BUT was really disappointed with the cheese board the other night. Considering it was $25 it was really very poor. It could have fitted on a saucer it was that small. Three very small pieces of cheese, enough for each piece to fit on a single cracker. Felt totally ripped! It was embarrassing as I’d taken a guest with me. Come on guys, lift your game

Super cute and charming local pub with good beers and a boatload of atmosphere! I cannot get enough of the leafy patio, the wooden floors, and the quirky art throughout the place. I only wish they had a few food options for vegetarians (my meat-eating friends love it though). Note "open late" is pretty flexible and we've come here at times only to find it was shutting at 9pm.

Very cool spot. Great place to chill out with a beer and a nice simple bite to eat. Quite small which adds to the vibe as well as having a homely comfortable feel to it. Most of all it is just a great place to wind down and triac without feeling pretentious. I really enjoyed it. Didn't have three meal I originality ordered but the lamb backstrap was a great backup. My wife wasn't quite so fussed with the whole thing though.

H & A has become one of my regular go to's! Always has good beer on tap, delecious food- where the menu keeps changing throughout the year- awesome staff and a prime location. What more can you ask for? Don't be fooled by its facade either. Plenty of covered outdoor seating also tables/booths upstairs. Make sure you book a table if you're wanting to make a group visit, as it can get quite busy at prime times!
