Comments of Maeve Wine Bar

Have visited a few times and always enjoy dining here. Food is delicious and presented well, backed up by friendly, knowledgeable service. There are plenty of wines to choose from and staff are more than happy to help you pick.

If you’re looking for a romantic/intimate place to dine then this is one for the books! They have a lot of wine selections to choose from. The food were well presented and tastes delish. especially the stirloin with beef jus. It just melted on our mouths plus the potato rosti is highly recommended as well. We had an exceptional service. The staff were attentive and accommodating . Definitely coming back.
D. Y.
Outstanding food, really exciting wine list - and the service is best in class! Loved my lunch. Staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the food and wine. A great place to sit with a friend or partner for a few hours and enjoy the experience.
J. C.
Ellie and the team at Maeve prove that a stylish venue with delicious food and excellent wine doesn’t need to be pretentious.
Bring a date, a friend, your mum, or come by yourself and sit at the bar. Make sure you try the anchovies and let these guys do what they do best and pour you a sensational vino.
Bravo Maeve!
L. S.
Nice decor and friendly dining environment with great service. I like the idea of sharing and minimum order can be only one piece so that we were able to try more dishes. Seafood dishes were great. Steak was a little overcook but the sauce was fantastic and unique. Wine menu could be perfected.
D. P.
Great menu, I have never had an average dish here. Share plates are fantastic as well as the wine selection. Not over crowded so you get privacy and great ambience where ever you sit. Highly recommended.

I've been walking by Maeve for years unaware what a fantastic wining and dining experience was tucked away at the top of those stairs.
Delightful wine list suited for not just your seasoned wine connoisseur but also anyone who is just after a cheeky fun red with their meal.
Food was spectacular and my friend and I would have ordered the entire menu but we eventually ran out of room. The share plate options still let us try more than your usual dining experience would allow. Nearly impossible to choose a favourite though as it was all so good!
It isn't just the food and wine either .. atmosphere and service can turn a meal into an experience.. and Maeve delivers with a lively vibe and friendly top notch service from a great team.
m. k.
I'd expected a great choice of wines, but the food was exceptionally good and inventive too. I fell in love with the Basque Cheesecake!
R. T.
Absolutely fantastic! We really enjoy visiting Maeve, the staff are exceptional and friendly, they make the dining experience so personable and comfortable. Huge list of drinks to chose from, appears to be very curated though, so you know you will not be disappointed. The food is amazing! There are so many choices here too. We would normally get 4 small plates between 2 people and it is a perfect amount to go with a bottle of wine. Cannot recommend Maeve enough! Book ahead to make life easier!

What a wonderful place!!
It's become our favorite Wine Bar. Every time we visit them they welcome us with a beautiful smile. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. What can I say about the food... Fantastic!! This place has a 10/10 for me and my husband. The food is delicious, a rich wine list, the staff very friendly and welcoming.
The atmosphere we find here enhace the entire experience; that's why we really recommend this place.
Thanks Maeve for the great experience every time we visit you.
Katia&Francesco.

We had such a lovely experience at Maeve Wine Bar. We went with the second option on the set menu and were not disappointed by every single dish that came out. Starting out with some freshly shucked oysters. The potato Rosti was absolutely divine and the Yarra Valley Salmon Roe was incredible. The salad, chips and striploin steak were great. Steak perfectly cooked but a little chewy. The staff are so lovely and accomodating, we will definitely be back.
H. W.
After dinner my friend and I dropped by to enjoy a glass of wine and we were not disappointed with the boutique wine on the wine list. These are not your everyday wines. They are all from boutique wineries from around the world who make small batches. My friend enjoyed a red and I a champagne. The champagne had fine bubbles and the most smooth delicious flavour. I wish that I had taken a photo of its name as I would love to source it to enjoy again. Guess that I'll just need to drop by rhe Mauve Wine bar again.
B. F.
Wonderful wine bar with lovely candid professional service. The food was good too and very well presented let alone good flavours - some great creativity. Wine selection was pretty good too by bottle or glass.
N. L.
Maeve Wine Bar is a place Brisbane needs more of and that is LATE night dining.
My experience was faultless really.
Food + Wine were excellent.
Grab a seat at the bar and choose from an excellent wine list and some bites to go with and voila...you've got yourself a great start out to a night out. You can spend your entire night here or have a couple of plates and move on to a number of places along Fish Lane to finish your night out.
Maeve Wine Bar ticks all the boxes for me and would go back in a heart beat.
C. M.
Simply: the best dining experience in Australia.
Visit Maeve and you'll wonder how such an outstanding restaurant exists in a city where lemming behaviours reign supreme.
The design of the space is of the highest standard. Covid aside, a shade over 50 can be accommodated across the bar and dining tables. The space is well used, you don't feel you're dining on top of others yet it isn't large. Design is meticulous. The restaurant was designed with quality acoustic noise dampening foam under tabletops to reduce background noise from timber floors and other noise. Many other hidden design features.
The kitchen consistently excel. From their opening year and onwards. Always impressive.
Wine again is light years beyond other Brisbane operators. There are familiar, reasonably priced wines plus challenging, exciting and unique choices. All surprisingly great value.
Wine can only be enjoyed when staff know what they're serving and that's the case at Maeve. All facets of the service is exceptional. Turnover of staff is remarkably low in what is a notorious sector to retain staff.
In a nod to how dining should be, bread and butter is house made and is gratis. Sampling other restaurants in Brisbane always brings me back to Maeve when they charge not only for bread but separately for butter, amusing to see.
Attention to detail is exceptional throughout. Right to the signature scent of the handwash in the elegant bathrooms.
Pre pandemic, Maeve was open all, if not close to all nights a week for genuine late night dining through to midnight. Thankfully, that's slowly returning. Was there recently on a moderately patronised Saturday and last orders for larger dishes at close to 11pm with dessert and cheese until midnight. Impressive for Brisbane. Always accommodating to find you a spot when at capacity with prompt call back (many nearby wine bars to dwell).
This is a fantastic venue for a full service lunch/dinner or a simple glass of wine at the bar. The very comfortable bar seats encourage you to stay as long as wish and enjoy food with your wine or simply a nightcap following a show at the theatres opposite.
If a bad review is left for Maeve, I would challenge its authenticity as staff always ensure the very best experience is enjoyed. Food is flawless, never a reason to return to the kitchen in my many visits.
Eleanor, Maris, Jesse and their business partners are to be commended for creating and sustaining an exceptional restaurant that provides valued experiences every visit. Would visit weekly if had time.
L. H.
When we went there was no alacarte menu and it was only a set menu. Great setting and atmosphere, great wine menu.
The food was yum but we didn’t leave full. The prawns were the highlight.
S. K.
If you are looking for a great restaurant and wine, no need to look further. Dishes are well presented, food is dewine, very european feel, embience.
Michelin star would be well deserved 🍷@michelin
T. S.
One of our favourite hidden wine bars. Always such an enjoyable experience with friendly service and great wine.
S. R.
Service isn't good and the food is never hot but the idea is there.
I work down the street and finally having somewhere nearby that is open even after I close at work is great. The wine list is amazing. The interior and the views are beautiful.
I've now been here at least 10 times since it's opened and I love the place but their are some things that as I continue to go here and they never improve are starting to further bother me.
The French waiter is intimatingly off-putting, if he stuffs up it's not his fault, he won't apologize, he's not friendly like all of the other staff and I happen to get him almost everytime. I don't expect to be best friends with him but I'd prefer not to feel intimidated by him, "sit down shut up" is his whole vibe. He also takes your bread plates then gives you bread to eat off your hand.
I generally get the flank steak and I have only once had it hot. It is amazingly delicious but never hot. Also since opening they have raised the price on the steak which is a little bothersome.
I really love this place but the cold steak and not personable waiter really bring it down. The male manager and the blonde haired bar woman are both extremely lovely. The leak with goats curd is amazing, the complimentary bread is some of the best bread I have ever eaten. The creme caramel is also amazing, however I'm still eternally hoping that a trial of chocolate fudge that I was given one night as I was leaving will make it to the menu.
S. Z.
Great food and wine for very good price. Great service and knowledgeable bar tender
A. S.
Wow what a little gem! Some of the most unique and delicious wines around at the moment. Wonderful service, a lovely atmosphere and top quality food and wine!
Eleanor went above and beyond to organise a customised wine tasting for my group of 13 to fit within our palate and budget which made the afternoon feel very special.
I can't wait to come back to try some more!
S. E.
Although technically a wine bar, This by far the best place to eat in Brisbane. There is always: exceptional food, lovely staff and a carefully curated wine list. (Like no other in town) If you get a chance to go to a wine lunch, the food and wine pairings are phenomenal.
We are also fans of the regular menu. All seafood, salumi, carpacchios and steak are amazing and we also particularly love the field mushrooms and the saganaki with garlic honey too. Have never been disappointed here in 3+ years, love it
J. S.
Fantastic food and excellent service. Beef tartare was one of the best I've had.
Wine list is exceptional and had a lot of European and lesser known Aussie wines available.
A. L.
What a beautiful place to have a special experience with loved ones and amazing food. We opted to sit at the bar instead of take on the set menu and loved being able to talk wine selections and see what was going on in the kitchen. An intimate but welcoming hidden gem in South Brisbane. Most importantly - the food itself was insanely good. Loved it!
T. M.
Adore this place! Our waiter was so knowledgeable about wine and she chose the most smashable combination for the wine pairing to go alongside the tasting menu. She really listened to what we like and talked us through her choices. Food was generous and couldn't be falted. I can't wait to go back!
B. G.
Lovely place and great food. The wine-by-the-glass list is brilliantly curated, we tasted a variety and they were all fab. Best potato roesti, and the gnocchi with Kaiserfleisch were light and tasty. The Cape Grim beef was bigger than expected (good to share between 4 or 5, I would say) with a wonderful herb butter on top. Excellent experience, we'll be back.
J. D.
A wonderfully diverse wine list, with some of the best food I've enjoyed in Brisbane in recent times. And with the friendly, attentive and knowledgeable service from Emily, the whole package made for a great night out with friends, all of whom equally enjoyed the food & wine. My only critique is the noisy atmosphere doesn't sit well with my Husband's hearing disability, so he can't hear much conversation in the noisy environment. We'll be back on a quieter evening and I'll bring others to experience Maeve.
M. M. V.
Lovely wine bar with cozy atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service excellent, we had 2 incredibly nice waiters. It was the perfect place to end our evening after attending a function in QPAC. Highly recommend the spanish anchovies and the mushrooms. The comp focaccia is a really nice gesture, loved it. Wine was great too. It's a must if you are in Brisbane!
B. W.
Perfect spot for date night. We loved the shared plates, lamb ribs we delicious with the fries.
We will be back

Do yourselves a favour and dine at Maeve wine bar. Fantastic service, delicious food, and an array of every wine and fortified wine to suit anyone’s taste, including a large selection by the glass / coravin. The waitstaff really knew the wines and what would pair well with our dishes too which is always appreciated.
S. K.
Beautiful food and amazing wine list. Thank you for making my birthday night out with friends a memorable one.
V. A.
Lovely food, lovely music, great service.
K. T.
It was really mixed at Maeve. The place looks lovely. My enteee of Spanish sardines was delicious and the complementary bread with truffle butter was too. However the cape grim steak wasn't seasoned, and had a bit too much gristle on it....I feel for $42 this could've been done properly.
C. K.
I have no criticisms of this gorgeous little wine bar and restaurant. The wine list is excellent, and THE FOOD is incredible. The dishes are well priced, the complimentary bruschetta will change your life, and if you're a vegetarian there's delicious, filling, and interesting options for you. It's a non-pretentious, comfortable little set up, and the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. Check it out (but book, it's unsurprisingly popular) I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I was.
C. M.
Came in valentines of 2019 and had a post-elopement takeaway feast during covid. I think enjoyed the takeaway food menu then when we dined there - we emailed about some service issues/the timings of meals and never heard back so this is just some catch-up admin. I don't know if we'd come back with all the new dining options that have opened up around Fish Lane and Brisbane in general, but still recommend trying it out if you are yet to.
C. D.
A delightful surprise that we stumbled across after a show at QPAC. Loved the wine menu with choices not seen in many other restaurants. Knowledgeable staff, who could pick what type of wines we'd like, share the history of the place, food, everything. The staff made you feel special, like they have all the time in the world for you.
Their in house made bread with rosemary is a must! So many menu items all made freshly in house. Lots of care was placed in every dish - delicious! The kitchen is completely open & yet we never even noticed the dishwasher get turned on, or a knife chopping. The chef's work in silence to not affect the atmosphere of the venue. Don't know how they do it, but wow, it was perfect! It's obvious ALL staff here value their customers first & take pride in where they work.
Thank you for making our night. We'll be back!
S. B.
Amazing wine and beverage selection. You really cannot be dissapointed! Fantastic nibblies to accompany. Amazing and warm atmostphere. Outstanding service too. I have been a few times and can't wait to go again. The shiraz ale I had last time blew my mind. Perfect pre or post dinner spot!
R. G.
This review is longgg overdue! My partner and I have been to Maeve about 3-4 times now for dinner and we have loved it every single time. The vibe is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and we've been lucky enough each time to sit in what has become a favourite table next to the window overlooking the street below - this becomes even cosier when as the night goes on the lights are dimmed and the little candles are lit. Maeve has that golden trifecta with it's food, wine and service. The food is seriously delicious - we're addicted to one of the set menus they have, and if you go do yourself a favour and get the wine pairing. Every glass of wine we've had there (and there have been many) has been incredible, and that leads me to the service. Emily is a key part of what keeps us coming back - she is super friendly, really knowledgeable and great for a laugh. We've taken up every wine recommendation she's ever given us and we've not once been disappointed. If the dining experience isn't enough for you, they also do most of their wine as takeaway bottles as well - we've just polished off one (another of Emily's recommendations) and can't wait to open the second. If I could give Maeve more stars I would, do yourself a favour and go asap!

Picked this place randomly for dinner when I was out with a couple of friends on a weeknight, and I'm so glad I did!
Firstly the atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant is quite nice, and it's got a mix of classic and minimal design. The place is on the second level of the building which makes it feel nicer with views of the Cultural Centre, QPAC and South Bank.
The wine selection looks really good as well, but best of all for us was the food! Everything we ordered was beautifully cooked and just delicious. The menu has got a French vibe to it, but there is a good variety of food options for a wine bar with a fairly small kitchen and menu.
The service was also OK and friendly enough. It could be improved a bit, but overall, this place is a must try for any food enthusiast.
H. S.
How wonderful our evening was with Maeve tonight. We have been looking forward to attending Maeve since before they opened and we finally made it.
The service was outstanding. The food and wine were also incredible.
It’s so special when a restaurant delivers above your expectations.
Thank you to the team at Maeve! We will be back!
It’s been a tough year and we are glad you are with us.
J. C.
Fine wines and excellent staff. The prices and the fitout are designed to maximise profit, which I suppose I can't blame them for. That said, it does detract from the overall experience a bit...
P. P.
Divine. A proper wine bar. The flavours go that extra distance + set the menu apart from any other in Brisbane. The wine has been carefully selected and the staff know exactly what to recommend. The ambiance has you feeling like your in an established European bar. Being on a second level gives it an intimate + special feel. It really is a unique place and fast becoming one of my favourites.
J. J.
Great little intimate French style bistro. The food shows finesse and freshness. The wine list is a good mix of regional classics and obscure curveballs which where difficult to guess in a blind taste testing. Mix of Australian and European wines. Oysters were fresh. Can be noisy and the smell of the open kitchen can be at times overwhelming. Those would be the only two faults. Staff were knowledgeable, attentive and lively.
D. D. G.
Great experience. Service was on point and Impressive wine and food offering! Will definitely return. Nice to have options such as this in Brisbane!
C. J.
So I've had a few dinners here now and I'm convinced that this is one of the best restaurants in Brisbane. Absolutely top quality food (please get the saganaki), attentive and knowledgeable staff, nice cosy casual vibe, and all at a reasonable price - especially given said quality. This place is great and you should go here.
M. S. K.
Such a charming little place! Nothing short but a lovely classic place even for a glass of wine.
S. U.
Definitely some of the best food I've had on Brisbane! The oysters and chicken parfait were absolutely amazing, and some of the most delicious Clover Clubs I've had in a while that we would have had over twenty of them! The ladies running the place were very wonderful and attentive, I can't wait to be back for my next special occasion!
C. M.
Simply outstanding. Affordable pricing, cool interior, service was at a silver standard level. Food was elegant and delicious, wine list is comprehensive. I am personally very glad that such a place has opened near Qpac, it is a great option if you're catching a show. Serving food until midnight is a massive bonus.
H. B.
Fabulous food, great service, and diverse wine selection. Can not go past the duck ham crumpet and the rum baba
K. L. L.
Wine, food, service are all top notch! Carefully curated and approachable wine list with a sizeable range of more special or unique drops by coravin. A well matched food menu of delicious bites and larger meals and knowledgeable, unobtrusive and friendly service. Gorgeous interior and a super convenient location- so close to the theatre, museum, library and south bank. Such a welcome addition to the precinct, somewhere you can return again and again.
L. S.
Understated...friendly knowledgeable staff, delicious food and relaxed ambience. Definitely recommend.
J. T.
I had been wanting to check Maeve out for awhile, so when a friend suggested an early dinner I was excited! It was absolutely incredible, from the atmosphere to wine and the incredible food. Hands down one of my favourite places in Brisbane ♥️
K. P.
Hidden gem. Recommended to us for wine and tapas... we loved it... and now recommending to anyone and everyone. 5 star food and service w so much attention to detail.
S. S.
Another amazing night at Meave. Fantastic service, exceptional wine and food recommendations and a great atmosphere equaled an altogether phenomenal dining experience!
M. A.
Odd smell on entry and the place is quite a dark enclosed feel to it.
Staff and service is professional, friendly and approachable. Good advice for the adventures looking to try new wines.
E.
Absolutely delicious food and immaculate service. For a place that has been open less than a month it feels so authentic. The service was easy going but sincere and the food was outstanding. This place has fast become a favourite of mine and I can’t wait to come back. Im excited to see what’s in store for these guys, they’re doing some great things up there.
J. K.
Vibrant descreet bar with a great wine list. The food compliments any selection of wine and staff are always friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Perfect for a couple or a small group. Dont miss out!
C. R.
Wow. Walk-in. Sat at the bar. The staff here are on it. Great teaming. Had a Grenache, Shiraz, and a port, paired with steak tartare, fish (I know) and cheese. Busy; being a small place. The food wasn’t too salty, and I couldn’t find fault. I’d love to come back again.
N. W.
A delicious, well priced, hidden little secret sanctuary with excellent service every time. They have a wine and cocktail menu with fantastic depth, an eclectic food menu for tasting adventures and amazing indoor plants 😍
A. F.
Great wine list, excellent service, lovely atmosphere and top class food. Have the steak tartare - an interesting and delicious interpretation.
C. M.
Rating low only because it leans more on the restaurant side then it does a wine bar. Still, a varied selection of wines here (didn't look at food menu) intimate and chilled out vibe, attentive staff and great location. Will come back here to eat.
J. R.
Excellent spot for dinner before the show at the PAC.
B. R.
Fabulous in every way. Food and wine was excellent and perfect pairings. Highly recommended.
B. C.
Amazing as always. Great wine list.
G. Z.
Wonderful food and service, but an even better vibe and atmosphere - great use of padded tables to balance the acoustics of the room (didn't have to shout to hear each other, despite the small and intimate venue).
E. N.
Amazing 5-star wine and dining experience!! The food is delicious, the drinks amazing...shout out to Chris who made our anniversary night so great!!
J. D. C.
Definitely one of Brisbane’s best new bars. Highly recommend some post show vinos here along with a great selection of classic French inspired cuisine

Interesting wine list, great food, and a killer space. Easily one of the top destinations in Brisbane for wine lovers.
S. M.
Lovely atmosphere and staff. Cheeseboard was to die for. Expert knowledge, help and service from the lady with the short blonde bob behind the bar - fantastic!
T. M.
When's it's open every night there is no excuse to check it out. Find the stairs and go up. You'll not be disappointed. Great drinks, super food and friendly staff. I'll be back.
