Comments of The Front
A. L.
The front is one of Canberra's best hidden secrets, hosting a wide range of different events, great coffee, and meals that I would never have thought of! It is queer friendly, has stellar service, and you really feel like the staff care about your safety in these trying times. I love how the staff create a space that I feel safe in (both in terms of Lockdown and from local ruffians). It has always been one of my favourite study spaces and am looking forward to coming back post lockdown!!

Was open on Christmas Eve whilst other cafes were not. Good amount of seating indoors and out. The menu and ordering is via website that is accessed by QR code located at the table.
Great burgers and drinks are available. Muffins and small cakes are on display at the counter. Friendly staff.
O. S.
Fantastic coffee from a cute little shop. Pleasantly rounded flavour with zero acidity and a balanced chocolatey bitterness.
Can't believe people are complaining that this place is being Covid compliant. Keep doing what you're doing and keeping people safe, just because they don't care about safety doesn't mean you guys should cop it ✌️

Discovered this cafe recently when invited to join a friend (who lives in Lyneham) there for lunch. The food was good and coffee excellent! Quite a spacious indoor eating area and tables well separated to comply with COVID restrictions. Some out door seating as well. Friendly staff! I’m looking forward to returning. 4.5 ⭐️ from me.

Our Sunday morning walk turned into a Father's Day breakfast at The Front at Lyneham. Incredibly flavourful and textured kimchi omelette for me: beautifully toasted rye, feta cheese and a side salad that had crispy celery... delightful! My wife had a speck, their bacon, broccolini, potatoes and poached egg plate; she was equally pleased. Lovely coffee too. 4.5 for me.
J. d. L.
I had the most lovely experience at The Front. Beautiful, friendly and attentive staff. Delectable array of sweet and savoury offerings and exquisite coffee - they serve two before ten coffee beans, I believe. And I had a batch brew that was on prism beans.
The menu looks so good. I'll definitely be back to try the rest. I had "The Speck".
10/10 would come again!
J. F.
It's a cute cafe that also is a music venue. I've seen some great live music hear. The sound is pretty good and there's usually a cool art exhibition in the other room you can check out. Staff are friendly and the venue is tidy.
E. H.
We were positively delighted today; frequent coffee drinkers but first time diners: I had a chicken burger that had a delicious pickle/relish and my wife had gluten free Halloumi burger that she was very happy with, high praise especially as she is a very fussy eater :-) We'll definitely be going back again!
K. K.
One of the best places for brunch in Canberra. Absolutely wonderful staff and terrific food. Highly recommend, I'm looking forward to returning soon!
M. T. (.
Freindly service, food came out quickly, lots of locals saying hello and plenty of puppies to pat. Mug of coffe was generous, scrambled eggs were fluffy and flavoursome.
M.
I'll be back. It's 2-before-10 coffee, adequately expressed... But the food was excellent and it's a great environment.
V. M.
Great food and coffee. Nice little gem in Lyneham.
N. K.
Delicious food, great coffee and wonderful hospitality! (Requested for something that I could eat after a particularly tough appointment with the dentist and they delivered with aplomb!! Thank you Chef!) Great ambiance. Parking is easy!!
Give it a try!!
C. K.
Food and coffee were both really good. Place was nice and peaceful and good to see some of the gallery work.
L. S.
Food and coffee is good but the portions are small for the price you pay. I got eggs on toast and I received barely enough egg to cover 1 of 2 small pieces of toast. At least I got the half avocado which was promised on their menu. Definitely went home hungry.
R. F.
Really nice food, simplistic feel. Smart having an order system for you on your phone
V. E.
Great coffee yummy food. The artwork really lifts up the overall atmosphere and makes that place particularly special.
L. H.
Cute little cafe serving great breakfast options. Yummy cafe, dog friendly front seats, lovely minimal decor inside and friendly staff. Would recommend.
B. A.
Didn't like it. Atleast what I went for. There was a musical event arranged here. Too small a place for the sound that was made. I guess they have idea what sound pollution is. People were cramped felt like they have no idea that a pandemic is just around the corner.
J. S.
Very delicious coffee and food and super friendly staff
k. c.
Refreshing atmosphere, great service, & interesting housemade tomatoe sauce.
G. F.
Food range is not huge however the flavors are different and work really well. Coffee was strong and delicious! Had the fritters for breakfast and really enjoyed it. Fritters were topped with perfectly poached eggs. Very happy and will return. Recommended.
A. D.
Absolutely beautiful food and amazing coffee 😍 The staff are absolutely wonderful, cheerful and always willing to go above and beyond to bring happiness to their customers!! First time coming here, phenomenal experience so I'm definitely coming back again!
P.
Genuine people serving really good food and coffee in a warm cosy and homely environment. You can't and shouldn't, ask for more.
E. B.
Simple and sweet menu so the consistency is good!
Did wish there was a few juices on the menu. Price is a bit higher then average.
Menu is hipster and meals look amazing!
Well thought out layout.
The atmosphere did feel a bit weird looking at so many faces on the wall.
a. w.
Great new fit out. Friendly and attentive staff. Great menu for both breakfast and lunch with superior coffee. The chicken burger is addictive. Ask if they have their batch brew ready before you order, it can take some time to make fresh.
R. e.
Great little place, great coffee and get to sit amongst fantastic art as well.
T. B.
Their remodel turned a nice cafe with real community and character into another generic boring cafe. It looks nice but has no soul any more. The food was beautifully presented but overpriced and not very good. $12 for undercooked eggs on toast and $18 for pretty but meh tasting pancakes... no thanks.
A. B. (.
Great coffee
J. B.
I have been here half a dozen times now since it's refurb. The coffee is really good and consistently so. The people are friendly. The service is great and every meal I've had here is fantastic. It's a great counterpoint to Tilleys which is rolling it's arm over with a tired menu and decor and minimal effort generally.
B. P.
A fresh menu with many options , my fritters where particular good , good Coffee and pleasant outdoor seating with a relaxed atmosphere with many customers coming and going a good sign.Very charming happy staff.
C. M.
Ordered a take away coffee and breakfast bun; Coffee was half filled in the cup and Luke warm, and the burger was stone cold! Don't think I'm in a rush to go back, shame because the cafe used to be alright
C.
Great coffee and excellent staff
J. C. H.
Good coffee, nice chai latte. The drinks were (apparently) slow, so they took them off the bill for us even though we hadn’t commented on the wait. The customer service is fully engaged and a real pleasure.
S. B.
First time I've been there and probably won't go back. It started out with us being waited on my a newbie waiter, he did ok, but, had no one to back him up when he struggled. 3 of us ordered soup, had to ask for spoons, we had to ask for butter for our bread. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate came out in the tiniest cups. We weren't even offered mugs. Presentation of food and choices was no where near what was offered on fb. Selection of cakes and pastries - poor. Slow service when paying.
Place lacked atmosphere IMHO
P. B.
Great vibe and eclectic mix of people here. A small menu to choose from and if you’re not keen for a sweet breakfast only one savory vegetarian option – eggs (however you like them) with roast veggies. Big serve of spiced pumpkin, mushies, zucchini, tomato & toast – worth trying! Nice strong coffee to round out breakfast.
N. S.
Great coffee and food. Has a pleasant atmosphere but it is hard to have a bit of a relaxing coffee when they're busy as it's quite crowded. Great addition to Lyneham
B. A.
Really nice place for breakfast. Good menu selection with the option of choosing just what you want from the sides list. Food and coffee were both excellent. The only down side was no bill splitting.
C. D. V.
The Front Bar is great, light & bright atmosphere inside & lovely alfresco seating outside aswell. The food is awesome & plentiful, great menu with something for everyone coupled with great coffee & friendly efficient staff. Highly recommend it!
o. j.
Like the rest of Canberra this awesome little place has had to up its game in regards to coffee and food. There are two French chefs which make amazing pizza and cakes and the coffee is one of the best in Canberra, and importantly consistent. Great vibe and very homely if you want to go somewhere and not impress the Joneses.
M. T.
Busy cafe for a Friday brunch - might’ve been because it was the first Friday of Jan so people were still on leave. We ordered the fritters and mushrooms which were great. Staff were also friendly but the food was pretty expensive
H. S.
Gentrified
The new version of the Front is still struggling with finding its soul. Right now, it's a bit too clean and gentrified. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, but nonetheless the place now feels less inviting. It's more of fast place to get a coffee and there are no more log casual hangouts. A bit sad, but life moves on.
L. G.
Amazing coffee and food, great atmosphere. 10/10 recommend
I. O.
Today we had the pleasure of experiencing the launch of the new menu at breakfast. We were lucky enough to sample a wide range of what is available via a series of tasting dishes.
First up, we had poached eggs in hollandaise nestled atop sensational potato rosti. The blend of flavours and textures was just too good to be true.
Next, crispy Kipfler potato salmon salad. The mouth watering crispy skins and warm carby potato centers set off the delicate smokiness of the salmon.
Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, along came the roast pumpkin with bocacino, cashews and pickled greens. A delicate and delightful blend of flavours. We later found out that the pickles were part of the Fronts strategy of using all parts of the food and reducing their waste to the minimum.
The final savoury plate (before dessert) was succulent roast cauliflower with sweet potato crisps and pomegranate on a cauliflower puree. Mmmmm!
Then dessert! White chocolate, raspberry and coconut waffles topped with mascarpone , fruit and button meringues and a jug of maple syrup to dispose as we saw fit. Needless to say we made very short work of it, and then sat back in contented contemplation.
The Front's new menu is a great example of great tasting food being great healthy food and I would recommend it to anyone who has taste buds.
R. M.
Love getting my coffee here, always awesome. Great Baristas. Excellent food too! The Chefs are amazing! Good stuff!
L. B.
The front does the best, creamiest, oat milk coffees I've found in Canberra, Love this place!
S. T.
Coffee not quite to my taste. I'll try a half strength next time. Avocado was delightful, will have it again. Love the table service.
E. A.
Excellent food and coffee during the day. Many evenings they have live music too. Chilled out vibe and friendly people all around. One of my favourite places in Canberra.
D. W.
The front is a fantastic little place the coffee is good, the staff are friendly but the food is a bit ordinary for example I just had breakfast here and the poached eggs were over cooked and the bacon was as tough as leather. I normally enjoy coming to the front but on this occasion I feel a little let down.
R. L.
Loved the lunch I had today- coffee was also great. Staff were all friendly and the meal size was perfect. Will definitely return :)
K. P.
Great service excellent coffee and THE BEST Mushrooms I have ever tasted.
D. H.
There are only few neighbourhoods in Australia with such a nice, relaxed community cafe. Good food and beverages, great vibe, nice people. In particular, I enjoy the regularly changing contemporary art exhibitions in the next room!
L. S.
Funky, arty retro untidyness with a soundtrack to match. Friendly, accommodating staff. Good breaky but can get a little slow at busy times with a early morning line-up for the better-than-average takeaway coffee. Wonderful place to chat, write or read. Gallery has a regular turnover of local work.
M. W.
Good relaxed place for coffee, drinks and live music. Recently they have added food to the list of attractions - including pastries, breakfasts and lunches. This is an appealing place to relax, enjoy food or drink and watch the world roll by. Music and art shows add to the interest. My favourite Lyneham place!
E. C.
Great coffee and homemade chai with a relaxed atmosphere, child and dog friendly. Decent portioned and priced meals with homemade ingredients. Great quiet spot in the suburbs with plenty of parking.
P. C.
The interior reminds me of an Ikea catalogue. But really, that's just dressing. Because the Salad Bowl should be main attraction, as it is the best vegetarian dish to be had in Canberra. Which brings this up to a solid four star establishment I reckon.
I. M.
Fantastic. Great food, great service, friendly staff!
L. M.
The breakfast bun was one of the best meals we’ve had and the staff were great!! Highly recommend 💖🥳 the art was very cool too :)
O. S.
Chill, intimate and unique. It's an honest little bar with a very nice homely vibe.
S. W.
Coffee takeaway was fine with good beans and lots of alternatives to milk (e.g. oat milk).
P. W.
Beetroot cured salmon is incredible
M. G.
How good was that. Great service, something different for breakfast and good friends
C. D.
Good ambiance for a café, food taste good though the price wasn't so affordable. Also, one more thing to point out, finding parking in Lyneham area isn't exactly pleasurable.
A. T.
Spacious, great wheelchair accessibility. Decent beer range
E. A.
Staff relaxed but non conversational. Table could use cleaning as flies were inside while eating. Food edible and ejoyable. A funky atmosphere.
A. K.
Good service and the tea was nice
J. L.
Best cup of coffee in town, nice atmosphere and good service!
G. P.
4 stars for the food and another for the chalk art.
R. F.
Good coffee. Great relaxed place to hang out. I love their house made tarts/slice/croissants... a little too much.
J. S.
Amazing coffee and equally amazing staff. My new favourite place to get delicious coffees 😍
A. D.
Delicious food, great coffee and friendly staff
C. W.
Service was good even though it was busy. Nice coffee in proper mugs plus cakes for 2 people cost around $20.
N. K.
Great place to hang with great coffee. Quality drinks but overpriced that made me change my choice and look elsewhere for a cheaper option.
J. C.
This was my second visit to The Front for lunch, and it was just as good as the first time. Great food and good coffee: what more could I want?
B.

E. M.

A. W.
Great local caffeination station.
Awesome vibe. Open early, rolls into the evening with a liquor licence and some live gigs. Also there is is fast wifi.
B. D.
This place is completely different since the new owners took over. Less cosy. But way better food, especially the chicken burger.
M. L.
Best latte I have bought! Delicious breakfast. Really friendly staff.
M. M.
Coffee is hit or miss and the pastries are not house made Food is a bit over priced for what you get.
R. L.
New menu is nice although serving size is a bit small for my liking. Fab coffee and service !!

Great coffee and friendly people. Was very busy when I was there
T. V.
Good food, great vibe. The only complaint is the lack of consistency in the quality of the coffee.
R. Z.
Great food, great staff a little bit slow for table service but still very above board otherwise.
S. S.
Great fruit toast and a very nice decaff coffee.
L.
Was a top spot for live music, arts. Also good coffee and food - until the refurb. Food is ok but the soul is gone now
s. e.

Really chill atmosphere, perfect chai, well brewed and a option for a large pot for multiple people.

Used to really like The Front but unless Paul is there to supervise the service is lackadaisical with young cool things forgetting orders while they chat.
M. B.
Really nice food but I expect that for the price... Bit expensive.
s. 0.
Great place for a relaxed bight to eat - really enjoyed the chicken burger.
P. K.
Yummy breakfast. I had the ricotta cakes, and they were great :-)
