Comments of The George Harcourt Inn
B. R.
Gotta admit, i was quite impressed with the food we received at the George Harcourt. i had the pepper squid and thoroughly enjoyed both the flavor, size and expediency. The other meals we ordered looked good and we were all happy. I've never been here before so can't judge them anymore than on this one event. If they're consistent in the kitchen, you will be happy too.
C. C.
Felt like I was back in England! Fantastic pub, great atmosphere, great selection of food and drinks. Our meals were fantastic! Looking forward to returning very soon.
C. C.
This is our Winchester, our favourite local. We often quote “Let's go to the George, have a nice cold pint, and wait for this all to blow over." Great pub feed, great beers and great atmosphere.
A. H.
A very nice, family friendly pub. They have a nice selection of food and beers available and the kids had a great time running around.
I will have to try and book a table next to their very toasty fireplace in the winter time.
K. A.
Edit: On second thoughts I feel this deserves 5 well earned stars.
I like bringing the family to The George Harcourt Inn. It’s a nice place to hang out for all ages and they have got a variety of seating both indoors and outdoors. The atmosphere is lively and sometimes it can get a bit loud depending on where you are sitting and how happy the people around you are. We got a nice peaceful place inside. The food was very satisfying and tasty, especially the awesome wings. Portions were generous and well presented. Service was reasonable and the wait at the bar not too long. Toilets are reasonable, however the chairs were a bit rickety and clean ups a bit slow. Overall the experience was good. Would I go back....The answer is definitely a Yes!
C. C.
Old school old pub. I like the management. The lady was so so professional and reminded me of an old bar wench from the 1600--1800 BC. Although that does not sound like a compliment I do mean it as a good remark. Cheers to woman power who ever you are MAaM".
K. J.
What a great atmosphere at this seemingly endless pub. With reminders of old school English pubs, this venue has lovely staff and great food. 👍🏼
M. S.
Family friendly restaurant, great indoor and outdoor seating.
Wide menu with veg and gluten free options- easily labelled.
Lovely staff and family owned.
Highly recommend, also great for events!
M. D.
Nice place, good indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff, meals are decently sized and good quality.
At the time of writing, they don't have a menu available online which is a bit annoying though.
R. S.
Absolutely loved it. The range of tap beers is incredible!
Friendly staff and top notch food.
Would recommend this place to everyone!
A. B.
Nice pub, food was nice but burger and calamari rings were too salty. Would still recommend thought.
L. S.
Great atmosphere. Good choice of food and cooked well. Prices good. Staff pleasant and accommodating.
P. K.
Drinks were great but very long wait for a steak nearly an hour and it was beyond well done when I asked for medium rare. Very disappointing for an expensive meal
A. D.
A beautiful place for all ages to enjoy delicious food and drinks. Kids love this place , kid’s menu has several good choices .Need booking prior. Not expensive, live music , outdoor or indoor.
D. D.
Wow, what a great pub. Food was brilliant, large servings and really delicious too. Heaps of beers on tap. Staff friendly. Heaps of parking. A great place to visit. When I'm next in Canberra I'll be back.
M. M.
Good food, big beer selection, great atmosphere. Great pub! It does get very busy so if you want a meal, my advice is to go a bit early or late, or reserve a table. Would be nice to see some local craft beer, but they don't seem to do that.
D. P.
Salmon was lovely. Atmosphere in the pub was busy but not crowded on top of each other. Tropical ale was refreshing.
J. N.
Good selection of beers but food was a big miss. Clear taste of reused oil, across the schnitzel and vegetables! Who does that these days?!
A. K.
The owner invited emergency services personnel for free drinks and food at the restaurant, but this review is independent of that gesture.
Food presentation, flavour and size were all delightful.
Staff was very cooperative and courteous.
Venue was nice with cosy seating inside and plenty of outdoor seating options too.
Drink options were plenty and delightful too.
Food and drinks are reasonably priced during regular times too.
Thanks Josh for the great food and amazing service! 😊
- Belconnen SES team ♥️

Nice vibe but weird serving sizes
Food was nice, drinks were good
B. A.
Love the decor here. Fantastic beer selection and the coffee for the missus and baby chino got the thumbs up. Would visit for mini March mellows alone.
J.
Food servings are good
Beers are good
Out door area is great for kids, only thing missing is a gate so they cannot escape.
S. S.
Superb food and atmosphere and architecture of an old English pub with a open fire with cool antiques hanging from the ceiling beams. Great range of beers and spirits and of course coffee. Dinning is inside around the fireplace or along the side of the large bar with a large open room towards the back that leads out to a heated sunroom. Heaps a outdoor seating and tables along with a smoking zone all set in lovely landscaped grounds.
M. B.
Really delicious "pub style" food and a great selection of beers on tap. Plenty of tables are available now, but you still might want to book for their busier times.
K. H.
Great Food, Great place. Recommend going it Summer tho . Live band and lots of outdoor seating. Booking limited to 90mins so get there on time
g. C.
Nice family atmosphere in the beer garden although some meals are not at delicious as the sound on the menu. My wife's tender veal coated in oates and Panko crumbs was tough as a boot and looked like it had been battered and over deep fried.
J. &. D. S. &. J.
A very nice and reasonably priced pub lunch after a visit to Cockington Green or the National Dinosaur Museum.
T. L.
Good atmosphere, good range of beers. Nice place to spend time with friends
A.
Great atmosphere with good beer selection and snack food (nachos, calamari etc). Staff are always very friendly.
The rear courtyard is best for sneaky displays of public affection if you find yourself here on your 3rd or subsequent date.
S. M.
Top stuff. There's beer
G. A.
Nice beer garden ... food was ok ... asked for a tray for my food but none so have to make multiple trips.
A. N.
A solid effort with good traditional English style pub food. Definitely worth a visit. We'll be coming back to sample the food again.
M. M.
It's a really nice pub the staff is friendly and the food is good.
J. C.
Great Venue ... Great Location ... Great Atmosphere. .. only a four star as the food let it down ... it was OK
Burnt Nachos ... I mentioned it to the lady at the counter. . and she just shrugged her shoulders !
Meals weren't very hot ... except for Nachos!
A little more care would have gone a long way
m. b.
The meals are priced well, decent serving and quick. Great range of beers and ciders on tap but service for the bar was exceptionaly slow.
If your not a fan of kids everywhere this is not the place to visit on a weekend.
N. E.
Very popular, family friendly with plenty of space inside and out. The food we enjoyed was of good quality, plentiful and reasonably priced. A good place to spend an afternoon with friends, if you don't mind the large numbers of other people enjoying the venue.
R. B.
Came with friends and had The George Beef Burger with chips and a pint of Batlow cider. All absolutely delicious and all the servers/bartenders were friendly. I also enjoyed the live music while I ate
M. A.
Great place for a hearty dinner by the fire on a cold Canberra night. True UK pub atmosphere, great selection of UK beers on tap and really good food.
R. R.
Thoroughly enjoy a Guinness or two with my bangers and mash! My girlfriend said too much dressing on the Caesar salad. Open fireplace and great staff. 4 stars
P. E.
Great pub. Heaps of room for kids to play in the beer garden. Great selection of beers, good food. A little on the pricey side, and bar service can be a bit slow, as the bar is pretty small.
K. P.
Good pub food and nice outdoor seating.
J. M.
Love this pub for its atmosphere and live music. Has a wide selection of beers on tap, these have however become a bit less diverse and the food not as out standing. Would however recommend it for a way to while away an afternoon.
E. F.
Such amazing food & service 🤩 gotta try the porterhouse & pie 🤤
B. C.
Great beer garden and function area at the back. The queue system at the bar is a little confusing and could be more efficient - you just don't know if the queue starts inside near the seated area or from the front door.
I. M.
Good pub food with some character. Guinness beef pie with sweet potatoes chips was great. House red was good value
D. S.
Huge portion sizing, half decent quality food, I ordered two kids meals and one was put through as an adult mean which I didn't realise til picking up, when I said something to the chef he just laughed and walked away? Hmmm don't know, pretty good place for families, felt like a German pub but was good
S. B.
Nice place for a drink or meal but expect to queue for a drink
G. M.
Classic family english pub in the heart of Australian territory. Live band, atmosphere, grog and food - exceptional. Call in advance though, cause the place is filled out very fast.
A. D.
The George Harcourt Inn is a nice, reasonably family freindly venue for a lunch or dinner. Their food come in generous portions and is cooked well. The range of beers on tap and their friendly bar staff make this a nice stop of for a pint and a meal.
R. M.
Like Cockington green, this place is a real Canberra institution. Tudor style pub with an attractive beer garden, perfect for warm summer nights. Great selection of beers, nice staff. The food is ok...choose wisely.
S. L.
Great pub, good selection of beers and food. Fantastic setting for families. Service at the bar can be a little slow at times, but don't let that get in the way of a good time.
J. W.
Very relaxed with outdoor seating under plenty of shade. Meals are lovely and choice of drinks extensive. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. A great spot for lunch!
I. S.
Great food and atmosphere.
Had few trucks for the kids to play....
Kids were happy and so I :)
J. K.
Great service .. tasty menu .. dog friendly! 👌
V. Y.
Good social distancing between tables. Good food.
A. S.
Very good for a social beer. Good menu and probably one of the last places in Canberra for a tap Guiness.
B. C.
Wonderful, great environment and good food plus helpful and pleasant staff. Christmas in July coming up - 3 course for $49 every day in July. Should also be good.
J. R.
I love this pub. It has a beautiful feel to it, winter or summer. You can sit inside with the fire going, or outside. The outside space is lovely, with lots of tables and plenty of shade and sun options. I love how they've added the stage. This would be such a great environment to watch a show. Inside feels like an old English pub, albeit with more space to move. The food is always good, and the serving size huge, which is great for the price. They're always friendly, and I just enjoy coming here.
p.
This is a quality spot for family gatherings and celebrations, as evidenced by the sheer number of people there the Saturday we were for the same reason. We had a great birthday celebration for my friend, and the food was delicious with reasonably fast service, considering just how busy they were. Highly recommend pretty much anything on the menu (between us we tried most of it), and the drinks were great and well priced. Reserve a table if you can though.
D. J.
We were looking forward to The George with friends but Easter Sat's meals were very disappointing. They were super busy, which is awesome, however that should not jeopardise meals. 😐
s. k.
Had dinner at the George recently. The service was good and the food was excellent. I had the beef and Guinness pot pie which was delish. It was definitely cold outside so sitting near the fireplace was an added bonus. Thanks to the staff for everything.
J. D.
Classic We English style pub with English style chips and beer in a pint or half. Aimed more for the tourist market, still makes for a comfortable local with live music and plenty of room.
D. M.
Lovely atmosphere, a good selection of beers on tap and generous pub meal portions. Went for a lunch visit, looking forward to trying a dinner visit in the future! Will definitely be going back.
D. B.
Great foods and drinks, nice atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff
A. C.
Interesting little pub with a great spot for a Sunday session, bands etc. Lots of good outside tables with cover. Bar staff don't seem to bothered about efficient service "you right?"
R. T.
Nice place for a cold beer on a hot day
M. R.
Easily my favourite pub in the whole of Australia. Always welcoming, the food is amazing (I recommend bangers and mash) and a good selection of drinks.
D. K.
Always has a great beer selection. The outdoor seating is awesome, the kids love having heaps of space to run around. The food is pretty good and the live entertainment is always a bonus on weekends.
S. W.
Excellent pub meals - their chips are always really crunchy and the serves are generous. It is family friendly with giant blocks for kids to build with and trees and rocks for kids to climb on. The George is a popular location for dinner and events so at times the lines will be well out the door. For busy days they have seating times at 6pm and 7:30 pm if you want to reserve a table inside; however there's ample outdoor seating so you can turn up at any time and order from the bar. They have a wide selection of beer on tap.
B. F.
Has Lindon Pride & old speckled hen. Fast service. Let you try the beer first. I'm having a fickle mistress pinot. Good wine list. Yet to try the food but judging by what i see i can't wait. Food is tasty & good value. Had burgers & pasta. Really filling meals
M.
Pub was well presented and had all the feel of an English tavern. Heaps of beer selections for the pint lovers and big tasty meals. Table service for the meals would be appreciated and perhaps meals not so heavily weighted towards chips and sides. Would definitely go back next time I'm in town.
S. A. P. D. T.
I have only been there once but the food and environment was very warm and charming. Will definitely be returning.
M. D.
I've been here a half dozen times, for varying reasons. The staff are always stellar, great service, food is delicious, and their on tap list is fabulous! Plus now that we have kids, it's very family friendly and we're still able to enjoy ourselves. Thank you for having such an all around brilliant place!
E. K.
Very efficient function manager. Friendly staff. Well priced and nice food. Flexible in accommodating us given that our numbers varied.
R. T.
Huge spacious venue which caters for any function. Whether you are hosting a Christmas party or drinks with a few friends the George is able to accommodate. Excellent food options and a variety of alcohol on tap. Did not disappoint.
E. Z.
The atmosphere is great and has a very homely and warm feeling. The drinks are great and when they had their mulled cider in winter it was an instant win! The burgers are big and hearty which makes for a comfortable casual dining experience.
M. H.
Nice food. It was busy but food was delivered in a timely manner. Lovely English theme inside tavern.
D.
We go here a lot as a group.
It's great that every one can order and pay separately.
Sitting out side is nice in the warm weather or inside by the fire if you book early in the cold.
They also have live music some times and that's good.
There is lots of parking even for bikes.
I have seen people do party's here.
S. R.
The George was a nice place to stop for lunch with family before flying out.
Drinks are a decent price! They have 21 different beers on tap, so good selection to choose from.
The chicken Schnitzel was to die for!
However the steak was delicious but closer to well done than medium rare.
The sweet potato fries could use some seasoning. Sauce portions were unrealistic in relation to the size of the meal, too much is always better than too little in this case.
Otherwise a decent meal and a cozy atmosphere.
A. L.
The food is always good quality and decent sized portions, and everything I've tried off the menu I've enjoyed! The Beef and Guiness pie is always a fav!
The staff are always quick with service, and the place had loads of seating inside and outside. It's a good place for a quick meal and a cool drink while exploring Gold Creek, or after tackling the phenomenal Dinosaur Museum.
T. B.
Awesome atmosphere and amazing food!
J. M.
Sunday lunch with friends and kids and it was great. We sat on the hill under a huge umbrella which was great protection from the sun. Food was excellent and came out really fast. The kids loved the live music and playing on the rocks under the trees.
J. C.
Great feed for the family. We were given an eta of our food order at the time of ordering (45mins) but it was ready much quicker! Mind you this was amidst footy finals and we didn't have a booking either. Kudos to the staff for making our visit enjoyable! We left satisfied, with full bellies.
M. D.
Warm on a cold day, but surprisingly crowded. Mulled wine was great! Vegetarian Nachos were lovely, great veg, could have used more jalapenos.
Vegetarian panini was pretty plain, needs some more flavour/pickles/herbs, any kind of flavour.
Service prompt and friendly.
J. R.
Great selection of craft beer on tap and a well thought out wine list. Standard pub grub in generous portions. Wonderful outdoor area for the warmer weather. Can get a bit cramped indoors in cooler weather. Book ahead if planning for a seat inside around meal times.
W.
Probably Canberra best "pub". Fantastic atmosphere and plenty of different areas great for a cold winters dinner. Food is perfect for the setting and they have a pretty extensive menu. Same goes for the drinks, with speckled hen and lumber yak on tap.
B. W.
Excellent pub with a great village in type vibe. Huge range of drinks on tap and more in the fridges. Excellent range of seating options both inside and out. Food is ok, not earth shattering, priced a bit on the high side for what it is. Had the chicken parma and the standard burger. It's good food, absolutely nothing wrong with it, quite tasty, however at $27 and $23 respectively it didn't quite live up too the price tag. But the venue and atmosphere make up for it. Staff are great, very friendly and always happy to help.
K. F.
Lovely atmosphere for families, however my food was so disappointing. I had the crispy pork belly salad with gorgeous Asian dressing on the side. However the salad also had mustard salad dressing on it. So weird, a mistake? Two dressings which didn't compliment each other at all.
M. M.
Lovely staff and stellar pub food
K. T.
Was here for Untapped and have been here many times before. Absolutely love it. Staff are wonderful and friendly, service is pretty good, food is lovely, and they can definitely pour a good beer! Great for a day out as there is also much more to do in the area with the dino museum right across the road and Gold creek just around the corner.
N. H.
Friendly service. Lovely food at reasonable prices. Good range of beers.
G. H.
Great meal. She had the George burger. He had the chorizo and prawn pasta. Two clean plates. Washed down with a couple of pints of Old Speckled Hen. An enjoyable afternoon.
K.
Great food
F. U.
Great atmosphere and plenty of seating options. Outside with live music every now and then, inside with cosy booths or inside at tables for all sizes. Also a great range of drinks from all over keeping it interesting rather than just that local pub selection. Menu seemed a little lacking, but overall it was still choice. Kinda place you could easily chill and spend a couple hours chattin away with a few mates.
J. A.
Great old looking English pub, staff were friendly, food was hot & tasty &plently of it. Fish & chips, soup, crumbed veal, braised lamp shank & steak & guinness hot pot. All meals we enjoyed, big meals. I can recommend O'Leary white wine. You need to book a table, it is very popular.
c. m.
The George is consistently amazing.
The staff are the best part of going to the George, being family friendly and always up for a laugh.
The George serves a great variety of traditional pub food with some more modern favourites.
They often have live bands and they are pet friendly as well, so bring your dog.
Recommend for children as there is lots of room for them to run around safely.
D. Z.
The food and atmosphere is amazing. But one bad point next time when we ring to book a table for a birthday dinner, tell us over the telephone that we need to leave the table by a certain time. We only had the table booked for 1.5hrs. We expected the table all night. After dinner we ordered dessert. Just as we went to collect the dessert, we were asked to leave the table for someone else. We were very embarrassed. There was 9 of us looking for a table with dessert in our hands. Not nice! BTW we were ordering rounds of drinks every 20mins. You were getting your money's worth from us.
A. H.
Usually a great spot for a casual beer and pub food that's a notch better than most. Good for big or small groups. I like that they always have great beers on tap and rotate them often but that was a let down last visit.
J. P.
Great place for a lazy Sunday afternoon with friends or family. Great food, live music and a terrific vibe to the entire place. Plenty of outdoor seating for those lovely afternoons. This is a constant go to favourite!
G. P.
Great place to go to. But be prepared for the bar area - there's very little space to line up at the bar. However, there's plenty of bar staff so the lines move quickly. Just be prepared to dance around with people passing by. Food on the bar is a good touch
A. S.
Great place for a Sunday sesh with the family, it's just a shame the hill is so dry. The cost does add up if you stay all afternoon though. We spent $160 for two adults and a toddler.
After a couple of drinks you can take the kids over to see the dinosaurs in front of the museum for free.
J. C.
The George Harcourt Inn is a small pub in a quiet area. It's outdoor area is probably bigger than the inside public access area which is strange for Canberra winters but they do provide a sufficient amount of heaters so you won't feel uncomfortable.
They have a great amount of tap beers and ciders and they also have daily specials. For example, Tuesdays are $12 steak and schnitzels and Wednesdays is curry night.
The food we had was actually quite great and we would definitely eat there again.
The atmosphere, staff and environment was also quite nice with no problems and friendly people in both patrons and staff.
It can get busy so I suggest you book a table before you arrive just in case.
We will definitely go back and we're glad such a nice place is so close to home.
G. A.
We had very nice meals for lunch today by the fire. Service was friendly and the meals came in 20 minutes despite being quite busy for Friday lunch. Ploughman's lunch is still very nice but bangers and mash and the chicken parma were pretty close seconds. Meals are quite reasonably priced.
D. C.
Great venue any time and perfect for a function as well. We are locals so go often. Had my husband's 70the there; love the Tuesday night special, Chicken Schnitzel or Steak. Awesome in winter with the open fire. Good all round pub with fab food
T. B.
Great meals and place to hangout for a couple of drinks with loive music and during colder months fires to keep you warm outside.
The place is also quite beautiful and has a very warm and cozy feel.
K. J.
Nice faux Tudor presentation. Good for a quiet weekday lunch but it is a struggle to move about and find a table inside/under cover on busy and cold weekends. Decent range of brews on tap. Meals can be a bit pricey.
J. G.
Good atmosphere. Delicious vegetarian burger without the bread as requested. Obliging friendly staff.
J.
If you're homesick for the UK or even missing a proper English pub, The George absolutely hits the spot. It's a great place for a drink and feed all year round, with covered outdoor areas for summer and a real open fireplace in the cooler Canberra months.
Beers from classics to craft so bases are covered across the board. Excellent pub style menu with some real traditional gems if you have a good look.
M. L.
Great feed, too many beers to choose from, quick service, helpful staff, dog friendly
A. S.
Staff and food was exceptional as usual
N. M.
A really cute little pub hidden away in Gold Creek. Wide variety in food and very well presented. Perfect place to hangout or have an evening catch up with the family. Also had a nice area outside for the kids.
L. E.
Fantastic atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Asahi on tap and option available to add pineapple on Parmi - can't go wrong with that. Everything was great!
Apologies in advance for being slightly underdressed 😊
C. S.
Beers and staff are really good. Food is kinda average. Today's Wagyu burger was barely warm on the inside. I like rare meat like the best of them but a burger should be cooked through. They offered to cook it again but I declined. I think I'll only come here for the beer in the future.
Great grounds. Perfect for summer.
R. C.
This place has an amazing feel to it, the steaks are great the atmosphere is enjoyable, the drinks are fairly priced and a large selection. They dont serve schooners, only pints, found that out when I was getting one for the road. Overall a very enjoyable place, especially if u get by the fire
G. R.
Absolutely fantastic food....be sure to book though!
r.
This place is a Canberra institution, and the current owners are doing a great job. Food is well priced pub fare with generous serving sizes, and the place is always buzzing with a good vibe.
O. F.
Absolutely love this place. Great meals, awesome atmosphere. Will definately go back when I'm there next.
B. H.
Always a pleasant experience to nestle indoors or outdoors (weather permitting) and sample some of their extensive beer range. The meals are decent pub style and reasonably priced.
A. B.
It was Christmas eve and busy but we did not wait for our meals. And the staff were all smiling and helpful. We also had a small dog with us who sat under the table and everyone there was cool with that. 🐕👍
A.
Love the burgers here. Huge and tasty. The wagu burger was awesome and hubby loved the sticky pork belly burger too. Friendly staff and cold beer.
L. M.
Great atmosphere. Good food and a huge array of tap beers, cider and even mulled wine.
The venue has a great outdoor entertainment area as well.
T. O.
The George Harcourt Inn is a historical pub that has a particular charm and is very popular with locals and tourists alike. 'The George' as it is typically known sells a wide variety of boutique beers plus few more popular ones. They stock the the usual assorment of hard liquor and wine selection is okay too. The George has above average food quality and does not serve average counter meals. As such, they cater to and host, numerous functions during festive seasons and birthdays etc. They often have live music and there is expansive indoor and outdoor seating areas.
A. T.
Good food classics. Fair selection of beers and other drinks. Limited indoor seating, so take warm clothes if it's chilly out.
J. G.
We booked a table and landed next to fireplace, great atmosphere. Food was ok. Gets too hectic around pick up food area, however will be back. Mulled wine was a hit
S. H. D.
Great place and atmosphere the pot pie was fantastic!! Will come back next time im in Canberra ;)
M. S.
This is one of my go-to spots for a beer and a meal in north Canberra. Always a great atmosphere.
S.
Good atmosphere, fair pricing, food is tasty and good portion sizing. Only issue is if your going to say you serve mushy peas at an English pub at least go to Woolies and buy the marrowfat pea and make real mushy peas. What I got was NOT mushy peas.
C. W.
Great atmosphere. Decent food. Nice place for a long lunch in the sun.
A. G.
Good local pub. Good choice of beer, food is typical pub food (not great but not terrible either), plenty of seating inside and outside. Always good for a drink or catch up with friends.
F. B.
Very nice food and good selection of drinks. Do book in advance, as it can get pretty busy.
J. A.
Great food and not expensive at all. Great atmosphere. Warm fire (in winter). Very good location!
(I think I live in the closest house!).
Can be highly recommended.
M. H.
What is not to like about this amazing venue. The atmosphere is awesome. All the knick knacks and Bricker brack they have inside really adds charm.
During winter the fire is lit for warmth and really makes the cozy atmosphere complete.
They have regular live music both indoors and out. It's always an amazing array of different talent on show.
The food! Easily some of the best food I've had at a pub. Actually some of the best food fullstop. The burgers are amazing. The salad's are amazing. The steaks are steaks. Ok so I can't call the steaks amazing but they are the best you will get for the price.
And the beer and spirit range is extensive.
Give it a shot!
Oh and try the London Fog. Great hot drink! (Non alcoholic!)
G. T.
Family friendly with a large garden for the kids to run around.
Love their ginger beer.
S. C.
Fantastic care with allergies. Tom had a friendly smile and empathy for celiacs. Yum, fresh food, great atmosphere (inside and outside) and awesome staff :)
D. L.
Enjoyed three meals there in last 12 months - two dinners and one lunch. Food each time was good. Service slow but it was very busy each time so no big deal. Based on last three experiences going back there on Friday night. Good range of beers
M. G.
Always reliable pub food.
M. A.
Love the George, haven't been here for years, it's gotten a lot bigger but lost none of it's charm.
S. M.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly stuff and yummy food. I highly recommend the gf salt and pepper squid, it's delicious. 👌👌😋😋
H. M.
The food is mostly good, burgers being the clear standout. Outdoor seating should be preferred if the weather permits it as the image is claustrophobic, the chairs uncomfortable, the atmosphere loud, and tables in awkward positions with open windows.
P. O.
Lovely pub that gets extremely busy. Very family friendly too. Nice selection of beers on offer and food choices are plentiful and was tasty.
T. R.
Great English pub, quite a few beers on tap looks live bands etc.
f. b.
amazing english pub, really liked the food, mains around $18 ~ $25. beer @ $8
good atmosphere, cozy fireplace. we liked the sheltered outdoor area at the back where we get the sun and its not too windy. good clean amenities.
its next to the miniature park Cockington green garden, so its a good stop over before or after the garden visit.
we will visit again :)
I. H.
A local drinking and eating spot with lots of character. Generous serves of slightly up market pub food. Lots of choice for drinks. (staff could be friendlier, the woman who took our lunch order was not at all suited to public contact!)
J.
A great old English style pub, in fact I actually felt like I was back in England (it even rained, how authentic is that)! They also have a great selection of both British and local beers. Great pub for the summer and cold winter evenings.
S. S.
Always a great atmosphere. Old English pub on the inside, but a massive Aussie beer garden outside.
J. M.
Super busy before Christmas. Work Christmas party so outdoors and cold! Food was good and drinks good but a long wait for service.
R. B.
I went by myself and the waitress, after determining my palate in a brief discussion managed to present me with the perfect beverage- Pimms and lemonade (off tap!!) with strawberries, cucumber and mint. There might have been fresh lime in there too. It was divine. I sat in a booth and was gone again afterwards but the visit was very enjoyable.
I. S.
Nice relaxing beer garden with lots of shady trees and umbrellas. Food good, perhaps a bit pricey, and no trays provided so you need to make a few trips or have someone else help you carry it back to the table.
C. M.
Awesome, good food and staff
A. F.
Huge range of beers, good food and open mic on Wednesday.
K. I.
Brilliant shnitzel and good beer
I. G.
Lovely building, great atmosphere. Food is great but it is a little pricey for food. The deals on Tuesday are really good, I had a big schnitzel and chips for less than $20
K. S.
Food was ok tho a bit pricey
J. H.
Loved the food and the atmosphere. Had a blast catching up with friends and family
S. C.
Great atmosphere. Good food and excellent variety of beers on tap. I'm a repeat offender 😁
j.
The food was good. But the staff really didn't do enough to help re finding a table. We went to the only indoor section and were told by other patrons it was booked for a private functions. I had asked staff where we could sit, they had said anywhere without a reserved sign (there wasn't one).
E. R.
Relaxed atmosphere. Easy parking. Delicious porterhouse steak mash and veg.
R. T.
Popular pub with a couple of taps of craft beer/cider and decent bistro style menu. Our service was pretty quick despite it being obviously very popular and lots of meal orders at the same time.
K. M.
Real good food and tap beer. Not a bad spot at all for lunch or post work bev
A. K.
Good food nice setting friendly staff you can't ask for much more
A. R.
Favourite pub in town! Food is great for the price and there is an excellent choice of drinks which keeps getting updated. Can be busy at times but that just shows how popular it is.
E. B.
Nice food and good menu selection. We popped in with our kids for a meal. Friendly environment and love the decor.
N. H.
Plenty of charm. The smell of a real fire place. Great range of tap beers, friendly staff and good meals. We will come back again for sure.
D. B.
Great beer (and cider! 😀), good food and atmosphere. Been there a handful of times for dinners and lunches. Their burgers, guiness pies and schnitzels are great. And cider always hits the spot. Only disappointment is the "reuben sandwich". It tastes fine, but is not a reuben (eg the "special sauce" appears to be pesto and the cheese they use is an odd choice). Recommended going the guiness pie instead as it never disappoints.
C. F.
Wide range of beers, spacious gardens, great for small or large gatherings. Friendly and professional staff.
F. H.
Booked far in advance for a birthday dinner, turned up 10 mins early and our reserved table was given away and had to sit outside. After telling them it was too cold they got us a heater without any hassle. Food was okay for price.
L. G. (.
Reasonably priced quality public food
C. H.
Cosy atmosphere, great music, friendly staff but not happy with the Tuesday night schnitty/steak inflation from $12-$15 for the same meal. Salad dressing is the probably the greatest dressing in Southern Hemisphere. Also need to update the booking system and answer the phone.
M.
Good beer, no obnoxiously loud music, great food. Excellent watering hole. Even got looked after when I forgot to take my sunnies with me.
d. b.
Great pub, understandably the food can take a while when busy. However there's a sign to let you know how long the wait is before ordering! Good work George!
R. S.
I love Irish pubs. Everytime we go to Canberra we drop in here, great atmosphere. Good food, nice selection of beer and everyone in the family loves the live music.
D. P.
Decent vegetarian menu and a good place to come with dogs as there is tons of outdoor seating. Craft beer, including ginger beer, on tap. Huge servings!
L. S.
Got a schnity as I always do and it was peautiful!! My son got the salmon and he loved it. But I still reckon mine was better than his cos I'm better than him. Nice place good vibe and good service. Will go back
K. L.
The George can get very busy and noisy at times, but the food and service is excellent. They have recently finished renovations which means that there is more space inside, as well as a new outdoor area. Nothing nicer than a quiet afternoon by the fire.
S. F.
Lovely food and cosy indoors. But outside seating spoiled by load uninteresting music. Virtually no-one outside last Friday lunchtime while inside was packed.
M. W.
Beautiful place. I'd say even better in the warmer weather. The food is fairly good for a pub and their beer line up is fantastic.
B. H.
Great place for food, beer and families. Some tables a bit cramped. A little bit pricey for what you get but kid meals are good value.
M. C.
If they are going to be more outdoors they should supply more heaters food was good
J. S.
Great selection of beer on tap. The food is typical pub food done well. Makes for a nice afternoon out.
T. P.
Historic old building, great home style food. Laid back atmosphere. Outside music stage like a small Woodstock.
M. 2.
Wow. One of the highlights of my trip to Canberra. The staff, the food, the beer. Will definitely be back. Great rustic old interior that oozes character.
B. C.
Good selection of the usual pub fair with generous sized serves. The service is always top notch and they had some live music on for Sunday lunch.
C. G. (.
A nice easy collection of beers and drinks in this Inn that always seems to have something on, whether it's live music, a beer festival or something else. Food is decent pubfood.
B. P.
Good atmosphere, garden and internal dining, and decent selection of pub meals.
L. F.
Very hearty meals in the true english pub style. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The customer service is very pleasing given the high volume of patrons through the door.
W. C.
Nice place. Nice foods!
R. L.
Great meals, only problem for an English pub is they dont know how to pour a Guinness. More focused on getting the drinks out than letting it sit.
S. H.
Fabulous atmosphere and service, thanks for my perfect birthday lunch.
E. H.
Great atmosphere, great selection of beverages, great counter meals, great service, and a wonderful place to relax on Canberra's warm balmy summer evenings - and in winter there's the great fireplace to warm yourself by :-)
C. L. (. M. P.
Excellent food, the staff are very friendly, and the beer selection is probably the best in the city.
E. C.
It is a long time since I was last in Canberra and the George Harcourt Inn was still a very enjoyable place to eat.
4. N.
Excellent food and service!!
C. B.
Want to say it's horrible so people stay away and let me have beer in peace, but it's a great place with a decent range of beer and the area is good for catching up with mates
A. T.
Brilliant food and plenty of beer to choose from. The closest thing to a english pub u can get in Canberra. Just dont look at the pisspots hanging from the roof
T. “. B.
Cheep beers, hearty meals and a good atmsophere.
Entertaining the thought that they're a authentic English pub, with chamber pots hanging from the ceiling and a charming aesthetic - even the menu has an english lilt to it, with pot pies, a ploughmans lunch and an excelent bangers and mash.
It sadly fails to be truly properly british, with a paltry collection of pale ales and a guiness on tap, with only 1 larger on tap when i was there.
Although, that should not be seen as a downside.
Where a true english pub has an air of worn down depression, a singular light from the grey cold nights... the Harcourt is green and lively with live music and the sound of childrens laughter in the air.
A. L.
Nice place to have a beer in a sunny day. Good food and family friendly. Recommended.
S. H. (.
Good food and good service.
Y. H.
I like this pub as it makes you feel at home. Very comfy and related atmosphere. Enjoyed the steak with pepper sauce. Will come back!
P. H.
From wild 18th birthday partys back in the day, then onto baby showers and now ten years later subdued Christmas in July partys The George has always been an unreal venue. After being a semi regular patron over the last ten years I can honestly say that I doubt you'd find anywhere else in Canberra that delivers such solid and consistent atmosphere, food and service.
D. H.
Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic food, fantastically poured pints of Guinness!
What more do you need? AND the reptile park is just around the corner! Location, location, location people!
Z. M.
Good pub with plenty of outdoor seating and an outdoor music stage. Nice atmosphere. Attracts a wide range of customers including families.
N. M.
Eclectic English Pub. Great staff, great food.
D. C.
It's a great atmosphere and good food but it's always crowded and if you don't book in advance you cannot get food. The warmer weather is okay because you can sit outside but winter is a killer.
R. W.
Just a great classic pub. Changing range of beers. Consistently good food. If only I could walk there like the true English village pub.
B. H.
We've had a soft spot in our hearts for The George for years. Nice English style pub food with the typical ephemera on the walls make it a piece of England for travelers and expats.
R. S.
Incredibly popular, with great food and live music, but the bar and kitchen get slammed so service is slow. Provided you're not in a hurry, The George is excellent (and why hurry, it's a destination all by itself).
M. L.
Thanks to the chef who cooked the roast today. The spatchcock was impeccable. Thanks to Liam and other bar staff for making me feel welcome here. Love this place.
j. l. w.
Great place to visit summer or winter. Venue is looking a bit tired. Good selection of beer, wine menu lacking, typical pub meals and reasonable customer service.
S. R.
Good food and drinks selection. Nice atmosphere.
N. M.
Food was nice. Service not so good. Nice place for an easy lunch, definitely would go back. Overall lacked a bit of polish.
B. M.
Had the Farm and Seafood platters for a small function. Absolutely worth it. Great service, quality food and awesome atmosphere. 👌
C. M. (. O.
Great place to eat. Really diverse menu options.
Tuesday Steak and snitzel deals. Though consider booking a table.
L. M.
Great inside and outside areas. Booked a table no worries and bathroom is always clean. Staff always friendly and seem like they want to be there.
l. d.
Great food..great atmosphere
P. E.
Good pub. Nice setting. Good food. Good range of beers. Good idea to book a table on nice weekends so you get one with an umbrella.
C. M.
Went there for a christmas party, was understaffed and the bar service was very slow. On an up note the platters of food were very good and presented nicely.
P. F.
Great pub that I have been visiting for years. Never miss an opportunity to have meal at this pub when I am in Canberra. Thoroughly recommend.
t. c.
Great value food and an excellent selection of drinks. The atmosphere is also wonderful.
A. M.
Friendly staff. Clean venue. Steak was one of best I have had to date.
D. B.
Awesome place to have a drink with friends
Great food and excellent variety of drinks on tap. No televisions however that is part of the charm.
M. J.
Staff must be a bit stressed today service poor...
B. A.
I ordered the aged 300g scotch fillets steak its was ok a little bit expensive for a ok meal
and I ordered the prawns for with the steak for a optional extra $6.50 you only get 3 of them and no sauce for the prawns a little expensive for just 3 prawns
R. R.
Absolutely love this place! Never disappoints. Best atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Highly recommended A+++
N. B.
Great selection of beers, excellent atmosphere, great place all year around but tops in the warmer months
R. E.

Family friendly spot.
R. P.
Dropped in for a drink, would have had a meal but we had eaten a bit earlier and weren't hungry. Last time we stopped there we had a great meal
H. M.
Needs some more adventure on the Food Menu, but other Tap list is great!!!
R. H.
Good feed, good selection of beer. Good atmosphere
S. C.
Nice place for a cold brew and some chow. Prices are okay and they have live bands. Often need to book ahead for a table on weekends.
H. K.
Friendly and helpful staff great selection of beer on tap and in bottles. pub food is always fast and tasty
A. L.
nice pub with a small space for kids to play outside with tracks.
S. S.
Good range of local and British beers. Lots of outdoor seating and plenty of food options.
m. w.
Nice to drop in for a relaxing drink after walking round the model grounds.
A. W.
Good classic English style pub, decent food options with vegetarian and gluten free options, decent number of beer taps, and amazing outdoor seating - and plenty of it!
D. P.
Friendly staff but with rude patrons, unaware of others who are practising 'social distancing' when ordering drinks at the bar, cut you off with disregard. Watch Out!
K. H.
This is my place to go for two up these days, you can hear and see everything and a good selection of people. The beers are good although the service is slow due to the amount of people.
D. B.
Good range of beers and a classic pub menu. A top spot to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon with a group of friends or family.
K. R.
Dinners were the best!!! Great pub. Great for early dinner with kids. Desserts a let down but the rest made up for it
B. H.

N. F.
Great old style pub
Big variety of tap beer available
Great to see some local beer on tap
Wine list had variety and was well priced for the area
Food was so so
Standard Pub feed
Fish and chips came out and fish batter was really dark
Oil clearly hasn't been changed in awhile
Friendly staff and beer garden was dated but comfortable
J. R.
Great friendly service. Warm open fire. Kids welcome. Good hearty food. Loved it. Try the hot apple cider!
G. F.
Really impressive range of tap beers including Bob Hawkes which is quite hard to find. Food was really nice also. Recommended.

R. R.
There is absolutely nothing negative about this place. Service is quick at the bar, meals are cooked in record time and taste absolutely fantastic.
A. L.
Cosy and warm on a cold Canberra evening. Open fireplace down one end. Tight Tuesdays has $12 steak or schnitzel meals.
J. Z.
The food was good and the grounds were good for the kids to play. It was a little crowded so the wait for drinks was a bit long.
P. C.

A. O. S.
Such a nice place, great seating areas and a good pint of Kilkenny. Being from Ireland I felt this place was a little bit of a home - a gem!
S. C.
I honestly think it's over priced. Glasses were dirty with lipstick marks. Kitchen needs a good clean. Will not hurray back.
r. b. O.
Love this place. Great atmosphere (even when it rains), well stocked bar and awesome food.
K. K.
The food was great and there was room to play. The food didn't take long to cook. It was a bit boring though.

Londom Pride was quite fresh. Read my post of the other place in Sydney that had it on tap (shambles)
S. H.
It was freezing outside. It was nice and warm inside. The beer was great, the food was good. We had great time.
S. B.
True pub vibe, amazing food. Have London Pride on tap, sadly not drawn with a manual beer pump.
C. S.
The staff are friendly and prompt with service, the food is fantastic and plates overflowing and the decor great !
A. J.
