Comments of Walt & Burley
N. S.
False advertising in the email you sent to me. I booked in, not knowing about your Lakeside Lovers ‘deal’, for a table for two on 14 Feb, only to be emailed after booking, that this ‘deal’ was available on Valentine’s Day for $120, the email included the full menu available and all other inclusions. I queried whether one of the mains could be swapped for another on the standard menu, and was happy that you could accommodate me, and booked it in thinking it was a great deal. I was shocked at the bar when I was told it would be $180. Big jump from $120 to $180, and I wouldn’t have booked it in had I known it would be $90 per person. I told them while trying to pay, that I was under the impression that it was $120 for this, only to be told that I must have read that price elsewhere on their menu. I even showed proof of this price on the email sent to me, and was told that it ‘it was a typo’ and that it would be $90 per person. I’m the kind of person that avoids confrontation and I hate to cause a scene so I just paid because I felt like I was locked into this choice. Never been to Walt and Burley before, and will likely never go again. You didn’t charge me for the extra drink I ordered (a coke), because I think you knew you were in the wrong, but honestly, really not cool. Food was okay, but the duck salad was dry and the one dessert really missed the mark.

Good food with reasonable prices. Outside seating is awesome for the nice days. Friendly staff. Food took a bit before being served but was fresh off the flame.
A. T.
Had a work Christmas lunch thing here. Expected it to be rammed but it was only maybe half full at most. The beer was cold and flowing freely, had the chicken burger which was pretty good. Some outside seating but not any proper beer garden or anything like that.
M. J.
Booked this place for my girlfriend and I for Valentine’s Day… I pre ordered drinks that never arrived, my aperol spritz took longer than the food (40 mins). My girlfriends battered fish and chips was lovely, albeit overpriced, my steak was a whopping $45 and overcooked. I expected a lot more from a place with such a beautiful view and high prices!
S. Y.
Good spot with great views of the waterfront. Nice modern bar with plenty of seating. Food options are good too. Laksa was really yummy but too little gravy. Kids menu provided options for many. Service was friendly and efficient.
L. U.
We've ended up here last 2 years for carry ons from our Xmas party. Was awesome live music by sugar and cream and the food was awesome we got mostly finger foods. Calamari, wings both flavours, the tacos, with chips wedges and sweet potato fries. Also the cocktails and special shots (forgot the name a green sugary one lol) were good but not the next day 😁
J. F.
A great location on Kingston Foreshore and a spacious venue although it can be a little noisy when full. Had a lunch with the lads today as the first gathering after lockdown easing and the staff were fantastic and the food was exemplary (and a great selection of beer and wine). 3 of the 4 of us had the Angus beef burger which was excellent.
N. C.
We couldn’t move an inch after this feast!! We ordered the Antipasti plate from the ‘small plates’ menu, expecting similar small portions that we get from other Canberra establishments... not a small plate!!! We also had the Pork Tacos, the Mushroom Arancini and the fries - all really yummy! The perfect place to bring a group of mates and all order small plates, to just share and dig in! We’ll be back to try the drinks menu as well!
D. K.
Food was pretty average, & virtually no vegan options on the menu. The drinks selection was pretty comprehensive, though, & the decor was nice.
M. Y.
One of the best in ACT. The vibe the food the staff all are super.
D. P.
Thank you for catering for a larger group on short notice. The service and the food were equally amazing. They made a special day end on very nice note. Thank you 🙂
L. B.
Service was fairly prompt and food was cooked well and tasty. Maybe the choice of where to sit customers who have booked a table so they are comfortable needs a bit of attention otherwise very happy with my overall experience.
B. W.
This was a great find. Walt and Burley is situated at the Kingston Foreshore and on a nice night is great to sit outside. The menu had soo many options but was craving a parmj so had to go for the good old favourite however had food envy when my colleagues dinner came out, a huge piece of brisket and it looked and smelt amazing. Certainly will return to this place and can see why it is popular with the locals.
J. B.
Great burgers, but slow service, that delivered our table two meals and then the other two 10min later both had cold fries
A. M.
Beautiful location and atmosphere, friendly staff and I love that both outdoor areas are dog friendly! The food was underwhelming however but we would definitely come back to enjoy some drinks with friends and listen to the live music.
I. G.
Quite pricey but decent size meals. Both of the draft drinks we wanted ran out as they were being poured so se had to choose something else which was not what we wanted.
A. K.
Great food good service thank you
C. I.
The staff were lovely, the food was really good and came out quickly. Thanks for a great night! ☺️
R. C.
Had after work drinks this evening across 2 tables. Ordered lots of starters to share. Portion sizes were generous and tasty but what made myself and a few colleagues annoyed was that the waitress cleared our food (less than half eaten) without checking first. I had ordered the $49 antipasto platter and they had ordered calamari and mussels. We just turned around to chat to others and mingle (still hanging around the tables) but our food was cleared away. Shame.
n.
Really good food, portions were really good sizes and the view was really nice! Would go back there again.
J. R.
I don't know, I don't think I was feeling it. Kind of expense maybe I wasn't in the mood. It has a nice atmosphere and workers were knowledge with their beers. I will definitely have to go back there one day.
G. E.
Awesome food and the staff are amazing, we will definitely be back. Thank you for a fantastic dinning experience
T. G.
Great food, great drinks. My colleagues and I like to frequent Walt & Burley regularly for lunch.
N. S.
Friendly service at the bar. Scotch fillet steak was cooked perfectly. Calamari was tender & delicious. Sweet potato fries were good & somewhat crispy, but could have been a bit softer on the inside. Nice salad with meals.
S.
Got a great steak here, great atmosphere. Will be back and update the review!
S. C.
1 star off because the online booking didn't work. Actually didn't register at all but being a Monday they happily accomated us and our two kids had a ball. A great place to come and enjoy a great gastro pub meal. Well done girls and guys. 😍 The Choc Fondant has become a family favourite !!!
A. H.
Good location. Everything you'd want from a little casual lunch spot
E. H.
Great trivia night at the Walt and Burley. Cosy atmosphere, great food (love those sweet potato fries and the tempura vegetables!!) And friendly staff. Well worth a visit - or three!
S. M.
Nice ambiance, good views, open fire, pints same price as schooners in happy hour
J. P.
Good bar and good location, but the food I’ve had there has always been bland and not worth the prices charged. Tonight I had the lamb shoulder pasta. The “sauce” tasted like a jar of Cole’s brand passata with zero seasoning added. I don’t write reviews often, but I felt others needed to be warned. Get food first somewhere else, then enjoy a good bar experience.
D. C.
We ordered the Buffalo Wings and Lamb Shoulder. Both were excellent choices for sharing and was delicious.
This place can be a hit or miss with the service. Some of the 2ait staff are great, some others don't seem to want to be there.
L. S.
Not as crowded but still suitably convivial pub with great views of the lake especially in the late afternoon. Still relatively new but should mature well.
W. H.
This is always a nice spot for a drink or a meal. Easy to get to. Comfortable. Friendly.
L. B.
Yummy food, our portions were huge so you get your moneys worth. The atmosphere is typical office work lunches. Nice outside sitting area where the kids can be a bit louder. High chairs available.
A. S.
Between us we had the wings, mussels, tacos, pasta, short rib... Everything was excellent, the mussels being a particular highlight (and large enough to be a mains, not just a starter). Live music was great. Looking forward to returning!
T. H.
The food was great (try the lamb shank!), the drinks were great, but it's the service that earned this five star review. We were there for my brother's birthday and the staff were just fantastic to all of us. Really friendly, really good fun, attentive and helpful. After being in lockdown for so long it was great to go somewhere with this kind of customer service.
S. B.
Amazing night with the family! It was very busy and there was a bit of a wait but was so worth it! The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!
D. J.
Decent food, good atmosphere and have never had to wait for a table. Unfortunately drink prices come with the standard Kingston tax and the mulled wine was disappointing.
I. J.
A great location backed by good food. We were there with young kids who had plenty of outdoor space to run and play while we could generally relax and enjoy while still being able to keep an eye on them. The food was good. The ribs were brilliant, the burgers were great, calamari and mussels all rated very highly. Worth the visit and would definitely go back when next in Canberra
K. A.
Really nice drink selections, and lovely bar snacks to go alongside. Would make it a regular stop any time you're in Kingston foreshore
A. C.
The whole area is simply heaven, magnificent views parks walks breathtaking. Even if this place was rubbish you would love it but it isn't it is perfect. Polished concrete bar top and name alone makes it interesting.
But the service and seating etc are simply a place to relax and eat.
D. M.
Stunning to sit outside on a sunny winter afternoon. Fish burger and chicken burger are brilliant. Service can be slow if busy, but plan for that and you'll be fine.
S. Z.
3.5 stars
The atmosphere is pretty good.
Meal prices were up there...$22 for a mushroom burger - my expectations were high and the burger was okay but not amazing.
The staff were friendly and working hard but it seemed they were short staffed.
I also noticed two of the Bentspoke beers had run out - disappointing to see as they are a local business and it was a busy Saturday night.
The bathrooms were grubby too.
It's a shame as the venue has potential to be really great, but is lacking some much needed TLC. I hope it picks up its act.
G. B.
Food is good (enough) for what it is, pub food. The wait was ridiculous though, friends had eaten and left before my partners food arrived. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Cocktails aren’t too bad either, but the drawcard is the location, by the lake is just beautiful.
j. l.
I enjoyed our cider here. Sun was out and place was great. Good service and food was delicious (good serving too)
G. S.
nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The duck chips were disappointing, the duck being dry and chips generic and under cooked. Arancini was good. Pork tacos ok, slaw didn't have any flavor.
E. G.
Staff very friendly, nice views. Food was good but could be better. The lamb papdelli pasta was a bit mushy. Beef ribs was ok, coleslaw was so plain though. But in general was good dinner and drinks.
J. F.
Walt & Burley has really noticeably improved over the last few months. Saturday lunch service was really efficient, the staff were friendly, and the new menu options were excellent. Can't fault it!
K. M.
Pulled pork burger was inedible. Sauced so much it was sloppy. Fish and chips were tasteless. Kimchi burger the best of a bad lot. Venue was good though and bevvies were delish. Won't be going back for food.
l. b.
Had a birthday lunch here on Saturday for a dear old friend, and his party.
Covid has put us all under the pump, but
enter Walt & Burley, and their Covid universe is one of efficient order, and friendly service.
Everyone loved their food. My 300g rare steak was, perfectly rare, and large.
Worth a trip from the Southern Highlands, just to sneak a steak in.
A. F.
Great location but average food and beverage options.
L. G. (.
New: the food was nice but a tad pricey, we had 2 coffee's and both came out lukewarm ☹️
Old: Good food all round
B.
Always a good place to go and have a drink or dinner! Booked a table online and got sat outside in winter which was freezing! Staff did everything they could and managed to organise a table inside, it was really busy at the time so this was much appreciated ! Dinner was lovely.
L. C.
I came here for a 30th birthday party. The food was alright and the drinks took forever to come out to us. The waitress we had was mixed, she was obviously stressed about everyone having to sit down and constantly had to remind us. I guess that’s just the way it is now with all the restrictions. Wanting to come back with a smaller group to see if the food and drinks are any better.
C. J. B.
We went there with a group of friends and the service was first rate. The meals were priced well and the quality of the food was excellent. I had the sausages and mash, which did not disappoint :) Some of my friends had eaten there before and also highly recommended the food. Thank you for the wonderful service and helping to make it a great night out.
M. B.
The outside space is lovely and the live music is piped through as well. We started inside but everything felt a bit sticky. My colleague ordered the food (a selection of small plates) but nothing had much flavour unfortunately but the burgers that people had around us looked nice (we went about 2 weeks prior to posting this)
G. L.
Skating on thin ice. This place has a great vibe and beer list. The staff are hard to catch and two of them had to ask the kitchen what the fish of the day is and what sides it comes with. We were excited by cold seafood platter but oysters tasted metallic and prawns were overcooked. Accompanying sauces were promised on menu but not served. Waitress was apologetic she had no idea that it was meant to have sauces (kitchen's fault though). The broccoli and beans were the best part of the meal. The clams and octopus were also quite good.
T. U.
Great gastropub at the edge of the lake. Kitchen open till late and a fine selection of local beers.
N. V.
Omg , this restaurant on the Kingston foreshore took us by surprise I must say , came to Canberra today to visit my partners mother and ended up having lunch their with family , probably the best Lunch , service , atmosphere iv experienced in years , never got a chance to thank anyone because they were so busy but if your visiting Canberra you must try . Makes any eatery in Wollongong look like amateurs , thanks Walt for an amazing afternoon guys . We will be back
A. H.
Excellent place, great atmosphere. We had a few drinks and they had a fantastic duo playing music.
S. Y.
Great space. Lovely cocktails. Had a great novel cocktail made by a staff member (brown hair and beard?) very tasty!
M. C.
I recently brought out-of-town visitors to Walt & Burley for a lunch date. Covid restrictions were good and the service, young and friendly.
I have specific diet needs and the grilled calamari salad was perfect - gluten-free, dairy-free, low-fat, soy-free, Medical Medium friendly.
We all enjoyed our meals!
T.
This morning, I may have had the best Big Breakfast in my life! Maybe I was just in a good mood or something, but it tasted to good. Crispy bacon, nice snags, mushrooms, other stuff. One of my work colleagues seriously regretted not ordering the same thing.
I. P.
The meal was very nice the staff was very friendly to the children
R. F.
Love this place. Great food and they smash out solid cocktails. On the lake so it's a great spot. Went for a birthday and our table got a little rowdy but the staff were fantastic and the Long Island ice tea..... Beautiful!
H. L.
Very nice food, waitress wasn’t very nice.
The outside area really needs a good clean and removal of all the cobwebs. Looks bad
B. G.
Food order was mixed up in the kitchen and forgotten about, literally had to wait over 40 minutes for wedges and s/p squid. Then once it was ready it sat there for 5 minutes before it was finally brought out to us. I understand things happen but this is super inconvenient to anyones day who just wanted a quick bite to eat. We were offered a free drink each but i feel like we have been here long enough as is. Food was yum but not worth the 40+ minute wait.
C. A.
Nice pub in a fantastic high net worth location. Warm friendly and welcoming interior with a massive warm lovely fire place to huddle around in the cooler months.
Food was amazing for the price, but that's life on the foreshore and it is delightful
L. C.
Consistently great food, reasonably priced and friendly staff!!! It’s a real chill environment.. I haven’t felt so relaxed dinning in a while! Would definitely recommend!
M. Q.
Group of us all had the steak and it was good, some nice beers available on tap and Monday night there is trivia if you're keen which is set up next to the bar. Great views of the lake if you sit outside which is definitely the place to sit if weather permits (can get windy, and as long as you're not playing trivia!)
M. A.
A must place to visit. A nice ambience , music and too good food makes it a place worth visiting. I love that you can see the chefs in action . I tried the chicken breast grilled with sides. Big portions and the food had an exquisite taste.
N. E.
Funky location with good customer service with a reasonably priced and quality food and drink menu. If you like the hipster atmosphere in Canberra, this is the place for you!
T. G.
Lovely views and atmosphere, great selection of beers and food is good. Though, I have waited long periods at the bar for food and bar service multiple times, while staff are clearing tables and doing other things. I think concentrating on bar service is essential to good customer experience and business turnover. I didn't bother getting up for a 2nd beer because I didn't want to stand there for another 5 minutes.
E. R.
I went here for the first time tonight for the songwriters competition this establishment was holding. Kudos to management for supporting local music. It's very community orientated and I appreciate it.
To those saying its overpriced... Are you new? to like the world??? Kingston foreshore in general is a pricey location to eat with few exceptions. Walt & Barley had lighter dinner options for $12 with meals going up to over $30. So average prices. Perhaps surprising to those expecting pub prices but I would describe it as more restaurant then pub due to not only the food but decor, child friendly atmosphere, location, I could go on. The decor was hip but also fashionably chic, which was part of the reason I was shocked to see the toilet in such disarray. Obviously not recently cleaned. Even when clean the decor, low quality facilities and more make it so it could never look more then a Gas Station bathroom. I'm assuming no one else used these facilities as even in the many 1 star reviews I saw no mention of this. Shocking.
Saying all that. I wasn't a fan of the Burley burger that I ordered. I normally find burgers a safe bet but rather then blaming the cooks let's just say it's not my taste. I would love to see an audition of another burger. Perhaps BBQ chicken. Something a bit "tastier", saucier etc.
The chips though, amazing.
I didn't notice drink prices although, if what another reviewer said is true and soft drink jugs are $16? Outrageous. Mark up should not be that high.
S. W.
Great venue for large team catch up. Thank you
M. H.
They recently chage their menu. I've had food from both the old and the new menu.
The biggest issue is the food, most of which is just not that great for the price. Which shame as the view is amazing and so is the atmosphere.
They sometimes have live music and also have sports on the TVs. Like I already said the lake views are simply amazing.
This place has a lot going for it, just don't expect to be impressed by the food.
J. S.
I had the tastiest and juiciest Atlantic salmon. My friend enjoyed the sirloin steak. Both meals were quick and delicious. The staff were super friendly and we finished the night with a very smooth Sav Blanc. I’m not generally a fan of live music either but the pair that night were tolerable ;)
I. G.
A nice place to sit and have a drink outside. Staff seemed a little inexperienced, and I imagine would not have coped if it was super busy. The food was good not great. The burger and salt and pepper calamari were super greasy. Good selection of beers on tap, but hugely inflated prices compared to other restaurants on the foreshore.
A. M.
An awesome selection of beers and one of the better lakeside locations. There is a great atmosphere and a very laid back vibe with regular live music and a cosy fireplace in winter. The food is good with a diverse menu and they will try to accommodate food allergies the best they can.
T. N.
Nice bar with cheery service in a beautiful, lakeside location. Arriving early for a long lunch, we had the entire outside space to ourselves, though inside did fill up from 1pm. Really enjoyed the tapas and cheese board. Recommended.
M. E.
I could not fault Walt and Burley, even if I wanted to.
The atmosphere, the food and the service were extremely on point.
There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the 1/2 rack and it was divine, especially for the price! When you think of Kingston, you usually check your bank account before you head out for food... wasn't needed!
When we arrived they had a gent playing live music (who was extremely skilled; playing the harmonica and guitar at the same time). We had a perfect view of the sunset and the Roulettes doing their aerobatic thing. Perfect location, clean and comfortable.
The thing that blew me away the most was the service.
The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating; I was able to get chips instead of slaw with my ribs for no extra cost. One of us couldn't finish our meal and the staff had no worries about bringing us a container to transport the leftovers home for a sneaky midnight snack. The water on the table was never empty, they were always there will a full bottle when it started to get low. Towards the end of the meal one of the staff came up and asked how everything was, as you can guess we were all smiles. To top it all off, when we were heading for the door, one came up to us with a big smile and wished us a pleasant evening, it was a great note to leave on.
I hope the staff at Walt and Burley read this, because we want you to know that you made our night. Thank you, we'll be back!
R. W.
From the minute we walked in we taken in with the views and decor of the establishment. We were greeted by friendly staff who took the time out to show my partner and I the menu. We did have trouble deciding if we were going to sit in front of the fire or out in the sun over looking the water. When we ordered I emphasised that my partner is pregnant and we need the food hot for the safety of the baby, the chef not only listened to our request they also knew to not serve a sauce because it had raw egg in it (no no for pregnant women) which was a fact we overlooked. The food was great and we will be back as I think we have found our favourite new spot.
A. M.
Good location and drinks selection. Wouldn't mind paying the high cost of food if the servings were bigger and of higher quality.
T. C.
This is a fantastic place to eat. We eat here when we visit Canberra. The chips are amazing! All food is delicious. A good few vegetation options too. Good selection of beers on tap. Nice to walk around the harbour after too.
R. M.
A bit poor for what easily could have been a good meal and a fun evening.
The night we went was very cool, and the managers decided to keep the doors open to have a draught come through the whole night.
We ordered burgers, calamari & nachos and some cocktails.
The drinks were great, a the first burgers was really tasty, everything else had big issues. The calamari was not cooked in hot enough oil, so it was a bit soggy with oil, and it was completely under seasoned with a mayo that had no acidity at all. It needed a lot of lemon to make it worth eating. The other burgers were under seasoned too, needing at least salt, but hopefully some spice and a relish. The nachos were okay, but overloaded with avocado and cream, with little substance.
I normally hate wasting food, but we left about a third of it, as it wasn't what I wanted to eat.
The staff were nice, but with minimal service as part of their format, I wondered what we were paying for. I'm not going back until someone assures me that they've learnt how to cook.
C. H.
$16.50 for a glass of chardonnay - outrageous. Get over yourselves - you're pub by the lake not even Sydney Harbour. You should have a written wine menu to give customers a choice. And have more than one Chardonnay (at $16.50 a glass) available.
K. L.
I came here yesterday after being very impressed with their sister bar down the foreshore. Very different vibe but just as fun. I must say we were so happy with the service from Ash, I think his name was, he was lovely and very attentive and we overheard a conversation with him and a disgruntled customer and he was so professional, which we don't see much anymore. I would give 5 stars if it weren't for the price of the food. We thought it was a little expensive for what we were given.
J. T.
A family favourite of ours during winter with a sun drenched warm atmosphere. The Burley burger with crisp chips and green salad was very tasty and filling. It has a great range of beers and wine.
E. M.
Great industrial-chic vibe, good selection of drinks, prices on par with Canberra standards (that is to say a bit expensive but what you'd expect), friendly service.
Depending on when you go, this place can be quite different. In the early afternoon it's a fairly quiet spot, a great place to grab a drink and have a chat. After work though, it can be quite busy and loud.
Haven't tried the food but it seems to be glorified pub food. Nothing wrong with that but you're paying top dollar for it!
J. S.
Exceptional view of the lake for an afternoon meal or drink. A very nice lounge atmosphere. Can get very busy later in the evening, and sometimes a bit messy, but generally the patrons are relaxed and friendly. Meals are typical Canberra prices (read 'a bit expensive') but are of generally good quality. Beers on tap are your usual Matilda Bay variants and they have a good selection of other bottled beers below the bar.
b. r.
Nice place. Made a booking and were seated inside by the walkway. Very loud inside we couldn't hear each other talk. We asked to be moved outside where there was a vacant table which wasnt a problem. The food was ordinary. I had the hamburger which tasted like a hungy jacks burger. It was ok. Staff are freindly. Beautiful view. I may go back when its quieter.
J. H.
Ok, so admittedly I went here in August, meeting an old friend for a drink to catch up, so we wanted to be able to talk and hear each-other...Walt & Burley is ok for an after-work drink before sunset while you can sit outside and enjoy the view, but once it’s too cold/dark and you need to move inside, sadly it’s a little noisy. The snack food menu is limited and the range of local wines by the glass was paltry (1). A little on the pricey side, but as I said up front, nice view and good location of your looking to experience a more outward-facing side on Canberra.
C. W.
Had dinner there last night. It was quite disappointing, I had the spicy corn and zucchini burger which was not at all spicy and tasted floury. My partner had the pork chop which was cooked well but needed a sauce. Also a very expensive Sauvignon blanc $55 that I have bought at the supermarket for under $10.
A. M.
Pricy, but good food will presented and local beers
C. M.
The food here is amazing. So delish and perfect sizing.
The staff are really friendly and helpful. Loved the smoked salmon and Wild Polly pale ale
B. H.
The staff are very friendly and it is a great atmosphere for a drink with friends. However the New years eve set menu, whilst appealing on paper was disappointing. Specifically the over cooked steak which I sent back after 3 bites.
I would recommend the Walt & Burley as a great place to meet up for pre city drinks or as somewhere to finish your night out!
C. S.
Nice food and atmosphere but went there on a hot Sunday arvo and they didn't have much in the way of non alcoholic cold beverages like shakes or iced coffee. Well, it is a pub so I guess that may not be a fair ask😀 Otherwise a great hang.
Z. “. F.
Nice setting beside the lake and overlooking Jack Ross Park. Good food and bespoke beers.
A. W.
This review is a tough one to write. The staff here are lovely. The sense of community and old-fashioned, high-quality service from them is impressive. The decor of modern fixtures, open fire and comfortable seating makes for a wonderful atmosphere. A schooner of beer was $9.50. A $38 steak was nicely presented with a beautifully grilled cob of corn and a decent potato mash. Unfortunately, the steak itself was chewy, almost tough. The Sydney Opera Bar prices really are unreasonably steep for what is simply a reasonably pleasant pub meal. I think the price point needs to be better or the food needs to reach for the divine. At the moment they haven't quite found the sweet spot between the two. Nonetheless, I can't praise the staff or the vibe enough.
D. B.
Nice pub in a great location. Warm and welcoming interior with a massive fire place to huddle around in the cooler months.
Food was a little average for the price, but that's life on the foreshore!
M. H.
Cool atmosphere and live music, the food is surprisingly good too.
Gets very busy on Friday and Saturday nights so book a table if you want to eat.
J.
Thanks Walt and Burley, perfect place for our party
F. R.
Pretty good pub, also open to families. Food is good. ALTHOUGH there is not a huge selection, it's good enough for most needs. Nice settings. Overall, definitely recommended.
B.
Walt and Burley has a wonderful atmosphere of an evening, we had a few drinks and some dinner, great place to catch up with friends of an evening! Highly recommend!
A. T.
Great pub in Kingston. Interesting beers on tap. Veal scalopini is excellent. Excellent staff with great attitude. Nice environment
with great views of the lake. Some nice sheltered areas outside. Great to visit in any season.
J. G.
Excellent service, friendly and welcoming staff, great food and wonderful atmosphere. Perfect place to celebrate important occasions.
V. L.
Food is ok (not bad at all, but no biggie either) but pricey.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and takes all the stars.
But maybe you pay for a view (that currently is mostly a muddy-looking water, with an empty fake dock, with some rusty-metal-modern-look-attempt-whoToldYouItLooksGood pieces...)
T.
Its a great location and lovely place but our group waited an hour for food to arrive after ordering. It was the day after new years and they were apologetic for being under staffed. Food was ok.
R. C.
Great service, nice people, very popular, was overcrowded so if you have a large group you may wanna book in advance. Food was good, and an average price, presentation of food could be better, but an overall great experience.
D. P.
Latoya ensured that our group function ran smoothly, and everything was perfect. The staff doing our catering were on the ball, and everything was delicious. Would host events here again
R. G.
Nice food...not great food. Beautiful location and great range of beers to choose from
M. M.
Was a chill, but friendly, live and happening place nestled by the water in between residential properties. It offers live music, good lively crowd, drinks and good bar food that might seem a little pricey but you are paying for a better crowd and location.
Fact: House scotch is JW Black Blended Scotch Whiskey. Better than the reds in Sydney!
E. B.
Food was good, setting was really nice. Sevice was non existent. Tables were dirty and no one seemed bothered to clear them.
U. H.
Good times with friends, pre and post dinner drinks. Staff enter out of their day to make a cocktail not on the menu - after 3 requests the manager appeared and produced the goods.
P.
This is a good bar with good solid food. Go to watch the rugby or enjoy that Friday beer with friends. Book for large groups. Or if you want a guaranteed seat.
L. L.
Upmarket bar and restaurant with decent food and beer and nice views across the lake. It's good enough for a get-together with friends or colleagues, but you do pay for the privilege of doing it lake-side in this trendy area.
A. D.
Pros: great location, good vibes, drinks are good.
Cons: expensive, food's not great.
Worth a visit for drinks purely for the lovely lake views. Go on a sunny Sunday afternoon or for drinks after work during summer when the days are long...
P. C.
Nice bar and restaurant with live music on the weekends. Certainly my preferred location for farewells on the Kingston Foreshore. Great views of the lake in summer (and winter too I guess if you're brave enough to sit outside!)
B. H.
We went in the afternoon and sat outside in the sun which was nice, was a bit windy/exposed but being late October want too fresh. Drink prices are pretty standard and service was good. Also not to busy.
c. d.
Having had just eaten here i can definitely say the food is of top quality. If youre looking to spend the extra buck and make it worth it, this is the place for you.
The view alone is an excelent feature that just makes sitting here, letting your self digest a pleasurable experience
L. Y.
A Great location no doubt to watch the sunset on LBG or sports ie #ausopen. Food is ok, its a pub. Mine was cold on arrival. But cool on a hot day ie nice breeze. Staff well need work like the food.
A. L. (. i. a. F. F.
My favourite place to catch some views and enjoy the cosy fireside whilst eating yummy food. From a $20 lunch special, to all day tapas and bar snacks and finally the main menu too. there's no shortage of choice. Love the vibe, service and the location is second to none.
R. B.
Nice bar with a good selection of commercial and local beers, good wine list. Food is expensive but very nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food service can be slow when busy.
J. W.
Good selection of food but limited if you are after basic steaks, burgers, salads etc
Lovely staff and great location / atmosphere
J. M.
Great food, nice location overlooking the lake, staff that are fun and friendly and don't push you to leave the moment you finish eating.
C. P.
Nice calamari and wedges. Quite busy, nice location. Big outdoor tables were all reserved so we had to sit inside. I would return.
R. S.
The schnitzel was well worth the money. Great atmosphere for young and old with live music to listen to and views of the lake.
R. K.
Have to say the quality of steak was not good. But a lively and nice place to have drinks. Also staff were friendly.
s. e.
Elevated pub food but still good drinks. Some vegetarian options, but great pulled pork burger
C. P.
Good place to have some drinks. And great food as well.
A. D.
Needs improvement
Great place for a beer but the food was overpriced and substandard
T. W.
Pretty average food on the couple of times I’ve been there (don’t order the slow cooked ribs) and probably will find other places to eat in fire but nice location and drinks are okay.
A. C.
The atmosphere and locale are great! The quality of food was excellent and service was friendly. Had a really good time.
The Burley Burgers were great.
1. 1.
A rather average beer selection, some ok but not amazing food and slightly on the more expensive (but not expensive) side. Atmosphere is nice but it certainly doesnt do anything special.
D. C.
Ordered an lemon prawn linguine. Was a weird mix of tastes that didn't really go together. Nothing special at all. The views were nice however.
M. T.
Twice I've been here recently and experienced very slow service and very mediocre coffee. So I'll try somewhere else in Kingston next time.
N. M.
Amazing risotto! Great portions, a relaxed chill environment. Very satisfied customer.
C. P.
Avoid when very busy, there is usually a long wait for food. In most cases, there is a good selection of drinks, reasonable casual dining, a little on the pricey side. Service can be a little hit and miss, which usually correlates to how busy they are.
M. J.
We turned up late on a Wednesday night after they had called last drinks. Rather than just kicking us out we were offered a round, on the house as an ‘apology’... sort of service that makes you want to go back.
J. A.
Good service, the meals can be very slow if the place is full. Outside seating offers lovely views of the lake and Canberra.
c. s.
Great location on the lake with great views of Canberra. Good choice of food staff are friendly and efficient. Live entertainment on Sunday was good
S.
Serves tasty food and a good selection of drinks. Has a variety of seating options from tables to lounge suites, both indoors and out
M. H.
Nice place for a drink and something to eat, but their execution is not so hot - filthy menus and poor service. My apologies to the poor boy behind the bar, we only wanted to order a drink, I'm sorry we put you out.
M. M.
Great pub atmosphere with food. Little expensive however, but certainly worth a look in! Good selection of local wines as well!
S. P.
Friendly staff and tasty beer make this venue in a good location a place to while away a Sunday afternoon.
T. C.
Alex is the best waiter we have ever met! All needs were met and he is very professional!! Love this place
Y. B.
Pretty pricey, food was good, but no Carlton draught on tap.
J. R.
Risotto portion was pretty small, not much flavour and was a tad pricey. Really good location on the river though
c. b.
Warm and cosy fire much needed on a cool day.
Service and food excellent and great view.
B. F.
Chilled afternoon with a view. Good drinks & great food. A little pricey but it's worth it
L. H.
Good location, good bar. Nice outdoor area at the front and a smaller area at the back. Good for a quick drink or a decent bar/pub meal.
A. D.
Amazing location right on the waterfront. Food is great, ambience is nice and the drinks selection is respectable. Nice place for a work lunch or dinner with friends.
L. F.
A lovely bar and cafe in Kingston. One of the places to be, in this trendy area. We will return. Would have given it 5 stars but for the pricing being on the high side.
J. M.
Awesome atmosphere.
The sweet potato chips were to die for. Fml
M. T.
Great location, tasty food, good drinks... unfortunately cranky staff (most, not all) did soir the experience
G. B.
Not a cheap pub but has a nice outside area where you can look over the lake. Service just OK. They could work on faster service.
L. R.
Not sure why this place cops so much grief in other reviews. I found it to be a pleasant experience, good drink selection and they changed the TV to the cricket when I asked (what more could you ask for!?)
G. P.
Slightly grumpy service from young woman at counter. Food was ok except I didn't get everything I ordered. They weren't busy. Maybe just an off day. I'd probably give it 1 more try.
N. N.
Good food and extensive list of tap beers with a great beer garden. Sweet lakeside spot for lunch or a brew
H. W. b. B.
Good place for a drink with a nice view. Easy parking near by.
M. B.
Its ok. No bad, not outstanding. Can get really noisy inside as the sound reverbs everywhere. Run of the mill pub / bar on the foreshore.
L. V.
Quiet place to have a drink. staff are friendly. have a cocktail, beer or even coffee!!
K. B.
Really relaxed atmosphere. Only had a drink but the food looked good.
I. R.
There's a waitress named Ryan who was extremely sweet with our kids. Totally made our day. 😊

Have been there a few times. Bar is well stocked, staff are pleasant but the food is not exceptional.
J. G.
Nice beer but got the food order wrong nice food though when it got there and the scallops were cold.
D. &. G. G.
Quite lovely to look over the water, throwing back a beer and eating seafood. What more could we ask for on a bright sunny day in Canberra.
J. R.
Risotto portion was pretty small, not much flavour and was a tad pricey. Really good location on the river though
G. E.
Great beers.
E. R.
I went here for the first time tonight for the songwriters competition this establishment was holding. Kudos to management for supporting local music. It's very community orientated and I appreciate it. …

C. d. M.
I had chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. Great sized chicken and very tasty sauce.

S. K.
Not too bad at all. Food was nice pub meals would DEFINATELY go again

J. K.
Great spot for a drink, although it is a little pricey! Can't comment on the food unfortunately.

Nice place. Service is a bit slow and they should dump the school prawns off the menu but otherwise good.
S. H. (.
A few nice vegetarian options in their lunch menu, I had the lentil salad which was lovely.
