Its a beautiful little pub with a lovely atmosphere. The staff are polite and pour a good beer. I haven't had a meal but the restaurant looks cozy. Worth the walk up the hill to see the lovely old homes in the area.
Cheers

What a fantastic pub. Two nights dining and enjoying friends in this cosy, friendly venue. Meals were superb, steaks cooked to perfection melted in your mouth. Thursday night was fun with a live jazz band. Locals and staff friendly.

A great pub in the heart of historic Battery Point. Reminiscent of the best English pubs, this has a snug with a roaring fire, and a large restaurant area.
The service was really friendly and just made us want to stay longer. So we did.
We ordered lunch and had a fabulous chicken schnitzel. A couple of local pints of beer made for a lovely lunch time.

A regular hang out when the Hobart fleet are in town. Lovely spot on top of the hill, battery point. Good food, nice team.

The band that plays here on a Thursday evening is so incredible. The atmosphere of the pub, and the nautical vibe is very special and not to be missed !

The Blue Eyed Trevally was delicious along with the asparagus and roasted sweet potato, all our meals in fact were the same.Great service by the staff.
S. N.
What an amazing experience! Hotels full of interesting nautical history beautifully presented. Food was divine especially the scallops, and the service excellent. A real gem in the Hobart food scene, not to be missed
R. C.
Excellent lunchtime menu, from which I selected a fishermen's basket, salad & chips. Washed down with a Pinot Grigio, shared with friends.

Loved this old school pub. Felt like i was back in England but with really good food. Great beer selection too.

Usually a good meal had the paella last night was over cooked , a bit disappointing prawns were hard and dry hardly any seafood in the dish, and was so looking forward to this meal as had the same dish last time and it was great

We visited today for lunch. It had been ~2 years since our last visit because of you know who. Friendly service, warm environment. The food was lovely. They have a nice selection of local gins. The wine list is good and well priced. We will be back. Thank you team Shipwrights Arms.
T. S.
Absolutely the best lamb shanks I've had, my wife had an awesome steak that was cooked to perfection and kids had good chicken dishes that filled them up .

Went for an impromptu lunch on Sunday. Fantastic service from really accomodating professional staff, really good coffee. I had fish and chips, fish batter was lovely and light and the fish well cooked and fresh. My fussy partner had a burger that he enjoyed too. Will definitely be back. I think the closest I could get to an English pub Sunday ambiance here in Hobart.

Straight up full 5 star experience. Checked in at about 9:30, was greeted by very nice human man. Given a clean, kitted out room with 2 heaters (2!!!!!), 4 ridiculously fluffy pillows and housekeeping did a great job at making the bed really inviting. Shared facilities were pretty cool, I like that in a place. Arriving late meant I got to see the mermaid windows lit up from the outside. Gorgeous. Sadly I had to check out really early so I didn't get to see much of the area or the pub or wander around the neighborhood, but I'm left wanting more, so I'll be back. This is my go to when I'm in Hobart now. Thanks Shippys!

A slice of history in an unassuming pocket of Hobart. Warm, friendly pub with amazing food. Great selection of beers. Manager seemed a bit unhappy...was a Monday after all. Will be returning!
L. G.
Nice pub, our accommodation was around the corner so stopped for a drink a few times
A. L.
Food excellent quality, waiter could have been more friendly or helpful
F. p.
Had dinner here. Excellent paella, schnitzel, and seafood chowder.
T. W.
Food is delicious, especially the super fresh seafood. Nice classic pub atmosphere and friendly staff. Price of the food and drink is pretty steep tho.
K. P.
Exceptional service. Food in restaurant was to die for. Old style hotel with so much history. Was offered late check out if we wished by manager. Room very comfy and cleanliness exceptional. Would definitely recommend this as a must to stay and dine.
M. C.
Went with dinner group of 12, very busy night but staff were excellent, be good service, meals very generous and reasonably priced. Under new ownership and service levels much improved.
K. N.
Good budget hotel to stay in. Basic amenities but beautiful building with heaps of character. Just be aware that you will need to carry your luggage up a relatively narrow set of stairs so don't pack to heavy if you are staying here.
M. O.
Great food and service. .Great atmosphere in bar...
G. M.
Fabulous service and meals. Really friendly staff. Lovely and lively little pub. So glad to have stumbled upon this during our weekend in Hobart.
R. W.
Comfortable, clean and quiet rooms. Best pub accommodation I stayed at in 11 days touring the island. Great pub with good food. Probably the best pub in Hobart (the New Sydney is a better drinkers pub, is more lively and has live music, but the food isn't as good and they don't have rooms). Very conducive front bar and interesting, historic building.
Staff very accommodating and knowledgeable. Parking can be at a premium depending on when you arrive.
D. R.
Great meals in a true English pub style. Plenty of beers to choose from and lots on the drinks list. Friendly and fast service. All the old pictures were great too.
A.
Best pub meals we have had I. Tassie. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Can highly recommend this gem of a pub!
V. V.
Loved it very good food friendly service
T. W.
Great little pubs! Friendly and helpful staff. Stayed two nights, great value, clean rooms and quite location.
J. S.
Awesome and affordable place to stay. Great hospitality and super comfortable bed!
R. H.
Great little pub, good beer and lots of sailing paraphernalia on the walls.
L. L.
Not specifically inviting when you first walk in... though give this place a second chance if you want a good feed in Tassie without too much pomp and ceremony... we had a lovely paella and mussels
J. C.
Just stop in for some refreshing ales after a walk through the Salamanca market.
G. D.
Do yourself a favour. Stay here. Rooms have been renovated, price is right and the food fantastic.
S. B.
Lovely father's day meal. Lovely old pub with heaps of character and history. Service was great from all staff, it's refreshing to see the constant smiles.
Across our group of 15 many enjoyed lamb, scotch fillet, fish chowder, breads etc which were all really nice. The kids had bangers and harsh which was huge. 1 serve does 2 kids easy. Kids meals at 15 dollars is a little high if they don't eat alot. Will be back soon!
J. B.
Great place to stay and great bar food. Awesome selection of beers and other drinks. The patrons there make it all the better. Highly recommend this place for a visit when in Hobart
A. F.
Open fires, amazing scallops, plenty of cold beers, super cosy and quirky. A must visit at Battery Point. Feels like a warm hug.
P. G.
Fantastic pub in a beautiful area. Just had a drink here, but there's so much character to the place. Naval and other boating memorabilia everywhere! Bistro looks great, have to come back one day for lunch or dinner! Super friendly staff.
G. B.
Fantastic food and excellent service a gem in Battery Point.
A. L.
The food is delicious! In the Pub meals are nicely prepared and well priced. Staff all seem to be new so a bit of confusion sometimes. Very friendly and helpful. If you stay, rooms basic but a nicely equipped kitchenette and the whole building is spotless and charming. No heat upstairs but each room has a little heater.Dont let that put you off. I'll be back!
J. S.
Classic, historic, maritime themed pub with a wide range on the menu. Very large servings, the schnitzels were huge. The seafood chowder was excellent. Friendly and efficient service. The bar area is cosy with heaps of photos and name plaques of ships, all very interesting. Live music on the Friday night we went and a lively crowd.
P. G.
The food was very good. We enjoyed the quality and presentation of our lamb and fish. Presentation was very good for a pub meal. The service was friendly and attentive, making us feel welcome and valued. It was service that would be appreciated in a good restaurant. The ambience was olde world particularly appropriate for a historic hotel.
J. W.
Great Australian pub but small enough to feel cosy. Nautical/sailing theme with many photos from the Sydney - Hobart yacht race. Good solid menu with emphasis on fish, good sized portions. Excellent service from young enthusiastic staff. Well worth a visit.
M. T.
Went with a group of girls for a pre-Christmas catch up and drink. A couple of us hadn’t eaten so opted for the Salt and Pepper Squid. They also had a gluten free option. The meals were fantastic. The squid was so tender and delicious, the accompanying salad was fresh and the chips hot and crunchy. Good bar prices too.
J. M.
Excellent atmosphere, excellent food and exceptional staff.
The pricing is what you would normally expect to pay for a normal countermeal but what you get for your money is great, large plates of well cooked traditional pub food.
Make sure to have a good look around the place to the walls show an amazing nautical history and it's worth taking the time to check it out.
J. B.
I was a regular customer over 20 years, coming several times a year. I think it is not as appealing as it was before and I have been a bit disappointed by my last visit 2 weeks ago (it was ok, but not great) and prices seem up. Not surprisingly, far less people in the room too, we were the only one for lunch. Let's hope they will improve their menu and provide interesting lunch options.
J. M.
Great relaxing pub. All the best of English pubs. Lovely spaces inside and out. And history of ships very interesting. Great food too.
N. C. (.
Slightly mis heard orders, or asked to be repeated. A little fat outage for the lack of guests. But overall. Very good sized mains, very tasty. And good atmosphere
G. K.
Excellent service by staff and good meals
J.
Good meal, nice vibes. The Mussels are really fresh and are delicious. I would come here for the mussels again
L. A. A.
Perfectly reasonable historical accommodation in a good location. Guest parking at separate entrance available for guests. Some rooms have harbor views. Recommended.
K. J.
Really enjoyed the scallops. Great chips as well. All meals were enjoyed by all.
M. S.
We waited way too long just to get the waitress to come and take our order considering that the pub was half empty, in fact I got up and went hunting for one at the kitchen entry. We also waited way too long for the food to get to our table, and finally we received a steak that was definitely not medium rare, more like medium well, and my wife's order was not what she had ordered. When she got her grilled salmon though it was actually quite good.
D. D.
Friendly local pub near Salamanca Markets. Cold beer, good company, attentive staff. Nice spot to chew the fat
E. N.
Nice friendly pub in the heart of Battery Point. Good selection of pub meals, friendly service.
C. b.
Always happy and friendly staff. Decent menu and good food. Fairly priced menu for hobart. Cool quirky pub too. Have been going for years and havent been disappointed yet. Will be back
C. l.
Really well prepared seafood, fair prices and good service. You don't pay for fashion or gimmicks and I've never had a bad dish., I always come here when I'm in Hobart now.
S. R.
The food and service was great 👍
J. P.
Fabulous location with views in every direction. Close to an even more wonderful bakery/eatery. Easy walking to the harbour and the cbd. Lovely staff and very good in-house eating. Not as "original" as I would have liked, but everything worked.
J. D.
Fabulous meals, good service, busy, so bookings essential, especially on the weekends.
T. P.
Listed in my guide book as a pub dating back to 1846 that sells fortifying ale we just had to track it down and have a drink there. As usual, throughout our trip around Tasmania, staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome and before leaving we were chatting freely with the locals. Lots of seafaring memorabilia as it is a popular spot during the Sydney to Hobart races.
G. B.
I cannot recommend the Staff, Meals & Service highly enough. Just had my birthday lunch there with the Grandchildren. Food was absolutely beautiful & we ordered 1 meal for the kiddies to share & our Waiter Christian who I cannot praise enough for his 100% + amazzzzing service.... even organised the 1 kiddies meal to be brought out on 2 plates!! It's things like this that mean so much.
THANK YOU 😍
A. H.
Great food, good beers, lovely staff- what more could you want? A warm hearth? That's asking for a bit much, but yes, they have a working fireplace as well.
A. V.
The area of the hotel is just perfect. It is so nice to be able to walk through this beautiful neighbourhood.
We had a basic room with shared bathroom. I was worried with the number of people downstairs in the pub, but after 11 pm, it was very quiet.
I like the possibility to have a light but free breakfast near the bow window with view on the neighbourhood.
The parking is easy to park and it is very closed from Salamanca's area by walk.
M. D.
look, it's fine. I'm glad it's there/here. Meals were slightly better than "pub fare", but they are at crazy prices. $38 for a steak. at lunch time. Seafood chowder is divine though, thus the 4-stars, not only 3. and the tassie beer on tap... solid 4/5,
J.
Very authentic pub with basic beer and very affordable and palatable pub grub. The bar area is cosy but can get noisy, a restaurant area is more suited for family meals. Friendly staff, but patience may be needed when it is busy.
A. N.
Great little pub for a few drinks. Food is also available.
R. S.
Whatever you do in Hobart and you enjoy historical pubs with a great ambiance you will enjoy this venue. It is decorated with many historical sailing and maritime pictures to keep you interested. You may even get to meet the Host Tom from the land of the blarney. This can be its own form of interest and entertainment. Go early, have a couple of pints in the bar, chat with locals and then stay for a delicious dinner and experience super staff and service.
j. d.
Great atmosphere, it has a nautical feel about the place. Great food 😊
S. W.
Efficient and friendly service. The variety of choices on the menu made it hard to choose. All diners at the table loved their meals. Thank you for a great night. Will come again.

Beautiful old building and called in for a pint and a wee bar snack of pulled pork croquet - delicious! It’s lovely inside there too. Highly recommend!

Fast and friendly service, good food

BEST PUB IN HOBART. 171 year old pub in historic Battery Point which is a 500m walk from Salamanca. It’s the official Sydney to Hobart pub where the crews go to celebrate after the iconic race - the walls are covered with an AMAZING array of sailing memorabilia. Great traditional pub atmosphere and a superb Pub Bistro. Great food, great atmosphere, lots of history in wonderful location. Pubs don’t get better than this ole beauty !!! A MUST in Hobart
S. H.
After a much anticipated great expectation based upon a friend's review, we were all dissapointed on a mediocre meal (both entre and mains). Don't believe the past hipe - just plain pub grub now. Used to be a great meal - no more!
L. C. (. S.
Love visiting The Shipwright Arms hotel whenever I breeze through Hobart. A great (Sydney-Hobart Yacht race) history, friendly service, cosy atmosphere and always terrific menu options. I like that you're tucked away where only local knowledge can find you!
h. J.
Beautiful food. Give this place a go... first glance is just looked like a pub but out the back was a beautiful outdoor area. The food was lovely. Definitely recommend.
L. H.
Great food, great service. Solid pub, rich tradition and good people.
K. D. K.
Cosy little pub nice staff
M. L.
I had the chicken which was on the menu recommended by the chef section and it was superb. The manager was friendly as well. It made our experience to Hobart nice. Thank you.
A. H.
Great food, drinks and service.
Definitely worth a visit if in the area.

We never fail to visit the "Shippies" when in Hobart. It's our go to place for a drink. We usually do new years eve dinner here as well. The food is Pub Grub though the menu is well thought out and the meals well presented and served. Historically associated with the QLD on new year day. A well known and respected pub in Hobart.
g. m.
Huge chicken Parmigiana. Fish and chips deeelicious. Atmosphere warm and welcoming. Service exceptional. Great value. Very satisfying quantity and quality.
A.
Love coming to Shipys when we leave Bruny, our go to for a chilled nautical pub thats just real. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Food is top notch too. To top it off, wanted to make a special mention to Jayden and the owners for helping us out during the fires and making us feel at home when we had to leave our own. Cheers, Adam.
M. C.
Shippies is our favourite place to stay! Clean accommodation, excellent food, friendly service. We can’t fault Shippies! Tom was the perfect host, thanks Tom & all staff.
g. b.
Recently stayed for 5 nights, very comfortable ensuite accommodation, great staff, great location, very quiet. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the lounge overlooking Trumpeter street. A big thanks to everyone at Shipwrights Arms.
s. b.
Great meal, friendly service. Oysters were excellent and steak cooked to perfection. My my choice for dinner tomorrow night easy.
T. H.
We really happy to have dinner at shiowright Arms resto. The best oyster and really cheap , also poterhouse steak really tender. The paella taste very good
M. N.
Shipies has fallen over the years, from a great local pub that was almost a cultural icon of the community, to a mediocre and expensive local that trades on it location and throughput of tourists. I choose to go elsewhere now where I can get a Guinness on tap and not be made to feel like I'm wasting the bartender's time for ordering a drink.
J. F.
Great pub meals. Cosy and clean spot.
B. P.
A step back in time, slow down and enjoy a beer with the locals.
M. S.
Quality pub meal, efficient and friendly service. A wonderful setting & location. Been here a few times & always been satisfied.
M. R.
Felt like being back in the UK! Food was amazing, service was good. The old hotel/pub is quite big and has a great ambience. Location is beautiful
T. S.
"Shippies" the home of the Sydney to Hobart race. No Pokies. No TAB. NoTofu. No Keno. No Pool table. No Live music. No Bok Choy. No Instant Food.
But,Great location. Great Historical architecture, Great Collection Maritime Photos & Memorabilia, Great Accommodation. Great Dining Area's. Great Bar Area's. Great Local & Boutique Beers & wines, Great Individually Prepared Dishes. Great Service. Great Ambience. With a great menu.
We chose as entree's, A seafood chowder, and Oysters Kilpatrick. The chowder was impressive. Oysters, very palatable. Mains, Deep Fried Seafood Selection - The Fish of the day, Blue Eye Travella, Herb crusted. The Trevalla was very fresh, cooked to perfection, mouth watering. For the calorie conscious stir fries, vegetables and potatoes are available with all mains, instead of fries. Their range of desserts is tempting. The quality of food, along with a good menu selection, with a very relaxing vibe, makes this Hotel far more than an Old Historic Pub. This hotel is very popular bookings are advisable.
Lunch 12 - 2pm Dinner 6 - 8pm 7 Days

Good choice to stay at, everything you need in the same place, just go downstairs and you have good restaurant with many options, also a bar, nice atmosphere and best Live Jazz on Thursday’s .

Great staff, extremely accommodating, clean and simple facilities (best shower I’ve ever had away from home). I stayed a few nights for Dark Mofo, a nice walk away from the action.

Service was good. Food acceptable. Risotto a bit oily and the pork a bit flavourless in a gingery sauce that was very sweet
