A gem in the middle of Salamanca. Such a beautiful bar/restaurant. Warming by all the wood decor and gorgeous fireplace and super inviting and airy. The food was incredibly cooked and flavored. The thick cut potato fries were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The crumbled pork belly was also crispy on the outside and juicy inside and the side dressing was deliciously spicy and creamy without being overpowering. The honey soy chicken wings were coated with a flavoursome crisp coating and could be dipped into the honey soy side sauce but honestly they were delicious on their own also. Its does get a little busy on a Saturday afternoon but walk ins are more than welcome. Now to the cocktails. Only tried one the "French Oak Fashioned " and I have to say one of my favorites here in Tasmania. The bartender did it perfectly. He burnt some oak then place the glass upside down on the wood to let the smoke sediment settle inside the glass then he mixed the remaining ingredients and poured it into the cocktail glass then adding the final touches of dried orange and aniseed and giving it a quick blow torch to create more aromas within the glass. Incredible!!! You'll have 2 indoor levels and outdoor seating. There is no free WiFi available.

Had dinner hear with partner and a friend on recommendation and was very impressed how well the restaurant/bar was tastefully themed the wood work and layout sets a really relaxed vibe creatively lite and art is all round you . The staff where fantastic and service was of a high standard and really friendly. Staff seem relaxed and casual dress suits the atmosphere. The meals we had we enjoyed and thought was an ok price. The main thing we all found was the music was “to loud “we also noticed as more people came in and more conversations began the music went up in effort to combat it making everyone even louder eventually making it to loud to enjoy further drinks . I certainly would however recommend checking this wonderful place out you will I’m sure enjoy the atmosphere and food on either lower or upper level .

Went to The Den last night and had Berry Bellini cocktail before heading home. The drinks were very nice, great atmosphere and decor. The cocktail was pricey and but enjoyed the sweet tasting drink. The Den is an great experience and the place to go if you feel like a sweet beverage after dinner.

I'm just mad because I saw so excited about my drink I forgot to take a photo to share my excitement with the world. The Den has the best smokey old fashioned I've ever drank at any bar. When they make it infront of you it's even more of an experience. The flavours are great and the whisky you've chosen for it fits so well. I live in Melbourne now but will forever go back to The Den when I'm in Hobart for that smokey old fashioned!

Casual, cosy, and quite contemporary. We went intending to have pre dinner cocktails, but decided to eat here instead. There is a cosy, contemporary fire in the middle of the bar, with great lighting all around. The bar team really new what they were talking about especially regarding their drinks selection, and very friendly and down to earth about it. (I would recommend trying the Beachcomber) We decided to have a few tasting plates to share between 2 of us, very reasonably priced, loved the hoisin duck loaded fries! They also have outside seating area, with open fire heaters and blankets, but we opted for inside warmth on a Tasmanian winters night. Would definitely recommend this place for cocktails and casual dining!

Such an interesting experience. GREAT FOOD. Not great service. Unfortunately bad enough service from one person for me to never recommend to someone else. I went to the bathroom and the door handle broke and I was locked in there for some time. The team got me out, but no apologies, just shrugging it off. But again I can't blame them. However there was one waitress who was extremely rude placing things down in nasty agression, and anything we asked was too much. Which is SOOO unfortunate because the food was actually incredible. I had the best bao, karage chicken and gyoza I have had in Tasmania. It could have been the greatest...

What a nice spot. Comfortable outdoor seating with a firepit, and a great selection of local wines and spirits. The food really shines here. Great place to relax. I had a negroni and a signature old fashioned. Negroni absolutely on point, and the old fashioned was spectacular with a freshly charred star anise (charred on a French oak barrel length) to cap the drink. Highly recommend.

Being a local, I visit this bar often, sometimes just for a wine on a weekday. The only food I have tried is the caramelised pork belly with miso. I have had this about 4 times and each time it's been sensational. The vibe is very cosy and I love the gas fires! It's in my top 3 in Hobart.

We returned later when I realised I had left it there not hopeful of it still being there. One of your friendly door staff had grabbed it before anyone else took it and held onto it till we got back. The drinks were good, but the staff member was very non-engaging and had little to no knowledge or skills in providing an experience to connect the customer with a product. I would rate this place as the best interior of any bar/bistro within the Salamanca precinct. The beers selection is not as great as the interior design but it’s good enough. I just love the heavy smell of polish wood and the general theme of the interior. A wonderful place on a hot or cold day to have a drink and have a conversation.

The Den Salamanca is the perfect place to chill with friends. With a brilliant tapas menu, you can choose to enjoy your afternoon/evening in front of one of their indoor or outdoor fire pits. The fitout is comfortably modern and very comfortable. Staff are super friendly and table service is offered throughout your stay. Definitely worth a visit and could potentially end up as your go-to place when meeting mates.

There's a good range of Tasmanian wines, great cocktails and perfect bar food. The warmed endamame (only $7) with sesame, soy and a Japanese spice mix matched perfectly with the Black Hops IPA.

Second visit was as good as our first. Booked a table but were happy to sit and wait for a better table and chairs. Food is a stand out had salmon skewers, crumbed pork belly and bao buns. A lot of people seem to use the Den as a pre dinner drink spot and move on to other places. Staff are amazing including security and go above and beyond in the service department. Will return again when in the area great fit out as well.

Terrible night. Just wanted to go to the toilet. So decided to buy a drink on the way out.Two cocktails Old Fashions 44$ weren’t loud or drunk had a joke with bouncers but it wasn’t taken lightly. They snatched our drinks out of our hands literally and poured them down a sink. It was threatening and aggressive. We were shocked. We are both in our forties. We asked why and were given no explanation at all. Talked to manager next day and she said she will pass it on. No response, no reply and contacted again still no reply. Manager said Clifford will send us a response via email but never asked for our email. Still no response. Horrible experience. Was in Mercury newspaper for best Bao buns. Just want a response so disappointed. Follow up from the owner has been very good. The owner hadn’t got back to us because of a medical issue. He has apologised profusely and is reviewing the security situation which he said was overzealous. He offered to refund or credit us. So very happy with his response and professionalism. So I changed my star rating. Will follow up with a update and review after trying their food this week.

Excellent range on the bar. Staff are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The cocktail menu is considered, not an endless list of options. The food menu is also well selected; a great mix of meat and vegetable, familiar foods and some less common options. The outside, main bar and upstairs bar feel cosy without being cramped, the mix of new wood with old Salamanca sandstone works well. An excellent cocktail bar.

Visited the Den for a drink on our holiday, This place is definitely worth popping into for a drink. What they have done with the fit out is almost a work of art. Timber structures, suspended fireplace and ornamental lights that almost give a cosy avatar like feel. How they managed to pack the place with timber decor and features whilst feeling cosy and contemporary is a beautiful design feat. We popped in after dinner as we were quite busy and bought 4 ciders totalling to $48.. found that to be a little bit on the high side of pricing for a cider. we didn't have any other drinks but maybe checkout their drink menu before going.

A very cool elegant place with superb decor. One thing i noticed immediately is the ambient music. It was not on head pummeling pop mashed like a typical try hard clueless bar. I can actually have a decent conversation and still immerse the whole experience!
