Comments of Arbory Bar & Eatery
K. C.
Love coming here for lunch and drinks or after work snack and drinks, especially in summer. The atmosphere is casual, friendly and vibrant. Food is better than I expected, especially loved the flat bread and lobster roll.
c. m.
Very nice vibe. The King fish cevice was very good and well presented. Nice house music. If you re solo you can eat and drink at the high tables facing the river.
M. K.
Convenient location with nice atmosphere. Food was good. The carpaccio was a very generous serving. Cocktails aren't bad. A little overpriced but expected considering the location.
A. A.
Nice drinks and food as you enjoy the vibe by the river. It's mostly a walk in joint so you might need to wait a while when it's busy. Went with a few girl friends in the evening. Had a few cocktails and had a great time.
A. M.
Great spot with a view over the Yarra. I'd like to highlight the security guard doing a great job on Thursday night (10 Feb), he was very polite when checking our vaccination certificates (a tough job I can imagine).
On the negative side the food was below average pub-fare. The chips tasted like they'd been cooked in stale oil, and the chicken in my burger was of low quality. There seems to have been fewer complaints from our party about the full-size mains (the steak looked nicely cooked to medium-rare), but there needs to be consistency across the menu, and it's rather embarrassing if you can't get something as simple as chips right.
Overall, a great spot for after work drinks on a warm night, but look elsewhere if you're hungry.
J. H.
I love the vibes of this place with all the plants, the decking area and being outside.
I went for lunch with my 13 and 16 year old sisters. It was a nice quiet place during the day and it was nice to sit by the Yarra.
I’d like to go back with some of my friends on a Saturday night. I’m sure it would be really fun.
The lunch menu isn’t extensive but it has all your regular options. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it was reasonably priced.
g.
Food was good, staff were nice, drinks were good and nice atmosphere too. You get a nice breeze on a hot day there too. No complaints at all, both times I've been it's been a really enjoyable experience.
R. S.
Loved the eatery!!! For me, it ticked all the key ingredients of a good restaurant. 'Arbory' is equipped with a great location(on the banks of Yarra River), enjoyable food, efficient service and a relaxed ambience. Surely, a place to try out for foodies.
M. R.
Delicious food but quite pricey for small portions. Lovely location with great views of the Yarra river. The music was too loud but played good tunes. Seating quite uncomfortable with stools bolted to floor.
R. P.
Magnificent Christmas Day- expectations where low heading into the Christmas Day banquet at $145 per head. They were not only met but over exceeded. Excellent service was Liam the bar man and also our food server. Food was exceptional - langoustines ans oysters the highlight. Also spirits included- excellent day- will make an annual event. Thanks team
R. _.
Food was fantastic and the staff were friendly and attentive. The only issue I had is we purchased this Christmas dinner on the Arbory Afloat website and to our dismay found ourselves having Christmas Lunch at the train station. Not what we thought we were paying for and we were not the only people.
v. d.
Convenient place to meet for a drink in the city, food menu is ok it's a bit exxy for what it is, but that's everywhere in that area.
View of the river is nice, can be noisy if it's peak hour at the train station (bar backs onto the station)
E. T.
Average food. Nice environment on the river. There is nicer pizza across the river. They only take cards no cash. Also no kids allowed for the reservation table on upper deck. Not advisable if u get sea sickness as eating on the float is like on a boat.
T. P.
Arbory is our go-to bar, I just love it. Good range of cocktails and drinks to choose from. DO NOT MISS Truffle chips.
L. S.
This bar is just next to Flinders Street station, very convenient. With this located along yarra river, you definitely get the view and nice ambience. Not too bad for the food, surprisingly! And hey, you just can't resist the chicken 😁
P. C. B.
This is literally the most gorgeous restaurant I've ever eaten at unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. Whilst the serves are of a decent size and you definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, the chicken burger was bland- it definitely needed either a sharp or sweet flavour in there somewhere, and the hotdog not only (and inexplicably) had ginger in it but I had so much ginger that you could taste little else. Loved the range of side sauces on offer. Will be back for the gorgeous music and atmosphere, just hoping the food improves.
B.
A wonderful to enjoy breakfast or lunch.
I recommend the lobster roll. Tasty!!!!!
Sit beside the river, listen to the pop music, enjoy a cup of coffee and chat with ur friends.
After that, u can walk around the river and appreciate the good view beside the restaurant.
Such a nice place to hang around with people.
I would like to give five stars for this restaurant.
A. T.
Great location and delicious food. It was cold, but I can’t blame them for that. Beers nice and fresh, wings were delicious. The only thing I wasn’t as much of a fan off was the fries. Not quite to my liking, but that is probably personal preference.
A. M.
Boxing day ended for us with a stop for a few cold ones at Arbory. We did try to get on their float but in a short while were relieved we chose not to. Opted for a prime people watching spot along the middle area facing the float and we spent the next couple of hours satisfied with our drinks and the food - our calamari and truffled chips did not disappoint and were brought out as fast as possible in a packed bar on a peak day.
The true entertainment was the fisticuffs we witnessed on the float, we felt for the security guys who got battered a little as well but everything was dealt with neatly and police brought in promptly to deal with the over excited young uns.
Can't go wrong but nothing exceptional!
S. V.
It's okay. Not what I thought it would be like. I think this place is more about the scenery and location rather than the food. Food took a while to come out and the quality was not that great. The chicken was dry and mostly had hard fried bits, the fries were nothing special and quite oily. Staff are very friendly. Really pretty views. The Arbory Afloat (on the water) has a different menu to the upstairs area where I sat.
M.
Hands down one of our favourite places in Melbourne. Amazing vibe, staff, drinks and food. Only the best times are had here - day or night 👏
D. P. (.
Great place to be that is very Melbourne! Sitting next to a train station and the river. Food has been delicious and of course an great variety of drinks on the menu. A good spot to catch up with friends and watch the sunset and boats go by the river.
- Dog friendly (can be undercover)
H. T.
Had a lovely lunch with family by the Yarra River. Nice restaurant. I had the hot dog and it was yummy. The family agrees that their food was also very good. Don’t forget the BBQ sauce if you eat here. It’s a killer! I would come back. #maneklady #manekeats #manektravel
A. &. J.
Food was amazing. My friend Steak was divine, he loved it! His second time ordering it too. My barramundi was tasty & well balance with the flavour with a crisp on the skin. Service however was not the best, slightly had an off vibe from the staff but yeah! Good food at least!
W.
Enjoyed a great night out here. Very popular so definitely book. Service was quick and everyone enjoyed there meal. The aracini was divine.
T. S.
Exceeded Xmas day expectations ! Everything from the food, service wine list and security was spot on. Scampi, Barra, oysters, ham and much more food plus spirits included made the package amazing value. Liam was a legend and we will all be back very soon!!! Thanks team :):)
A. M.
Always a must visit when l am in Melbourne. Great location on the Yarra River. Great people watching. Good cocktails and a menu l love. Lobster rolls, lamb chops, burgers and the best chips!
K. G.
Amazing! Great service, quiet and relaxed atmosphere and delicious food and cocktails. Will definitely be back.
C. B.
Always busy. Great view. Even though it's outside, they are well prepared for Melbourne weather. Easy to get to, and perfect for groups.
b. s.
Amazing spot but nothing special once you go past the view. Still recommended but not my top place to visit
H. T.
Went with my mum and sister on a girls day and it was the perfect place for a scenic lunch! Food was great (especially the fries) and the cocktail selection is vast.
C. R.
Pretty good burger and reasonable beer selection. Good on a sunny day as there's plenty of shade
L.
This is always crowded place. But i agree why here is so popular and famous.
Atmosphere and environment are good to spend time.
I think this is the best pub to have beers watching yarra river.
S. F. &. O.
I can easily see why people like this place - great location, fantastic view of the river, loads on the menu, with drinks to boot.
The drinks - beer and wine - were fine, but didn't try the food, unfortunately.
Service was nice, but extremely LOUD and hard to find a table.
D. D.
Great place, but every cocktail ordered was missing a key ingredient (ran out of things), they forgot about our food order and barely apologised- I'd still go back
F. R.
Great location, great atmosphere, however, our steaks were seriously under cooked (ready to walk off the plate under cooked) and tasted like a fatty, cheap steak. Unfortunately that let the experience down.
N.
Conviently located and has quite a nice view. Southern Fried chicken burger was incredible, which makes it really dissapointing that it comes with plain crinkle cut chips. They do offer sauces but it doesn't help much. I would LOVE if there were options like sweet potato fries, loaded chips, etc. If you could buy individual burgers that would be lovely, too. My experience here was good but could have been fantastic had there have been better sides. The staff were friendly but it was difficult to get their attention, hopefully this is not common.
C. N.
Good view, DJs on the weekend, kids welcome here before 8pm. We took our boys here and they love the pizza.
L. Y. X.
It’s the best river views in the city, love this bar~
A. B.
Lobster roll is ok, river view is incredible. Nice place to catch up with friends. Will check out float section next time.
M. B. M.
we love this place! what a setting, by the river! and the food!
we had a double cheese burger which was true american style, slushy with two thin patties of meat wedged together with lots of cheese, stacked with relish and tomato sauce on a brioche bun. this is the best burger we have had in town to date.
there are several bottles of sauces to help yourself. i died when tasted the smoky hot sauce - immediately my taste buds tingled - this is the real amercian hot sauce i haven't had since i left in 1989 and sure enough it is imported from the us of a!
we also ordered coffee, didn't except much but it was also stupendous! great job, arbory!
S. S.
The place is amazing it was very busy on Sunday evening not expecting to be that busy even on Sunday night . The food and drinks are perfect and the staff are very helpful It is a good time to visit on summer evening The perfect sunset with river view
V. V.
Wonderful location, view, ambience, and food. What an excellent way to utilize the space. Will come back here again and again. The food was amazing, delicious, wow! Love Arbory! XO!
P. S.
Great food good coffee and a magnificent view over the Yarra-
the food is good.. the staff use to be great but now seem disinterested, maybe just the pandemic!
hint: try the pancake !!!
i.
A huge thank you to all of the Arbory team who have created such a wonderful venue for Melbounre. The menu has a strong seafood focus, Neapolitan wood-fired pizza & modern Italian mains. Perfect alongside the bespoke gin creations, crafted on a range of small-batch tonics & clever garnishes. A truely Melbourne experience and a must visit for all.
C. H.
Melbourne has some of the best places, that are manned by the best people, that help make your experience the very best. The Arbory is that hidden gem, perfect place as the sun sets, the views, the food and friendliest staff. The upbeat vibe of Arboury staff is epitomised by the likes of Shyanne who help you celebrate moments and your experience there to the fullest.
N. Z.
Such a great & happening place. So many people. Food was delicious, views of Melbourne waterways was great. Drinks were great as well. Definitely visit again
N. S.
Great setup, 50s design & styling is very cool, sadly the limited selection of menu options, let this place down. The food I ordered wasn't as nice as I expected and music was overkill. Probably wouldn't visit again as the atmosphere overall wasn't my thing. Also if your a Cocoa Cola mixer then byo, coz they only serve Pepsi.
A. L.
The double cheeseburger was divine. I can’t recommend it high enough. The chips are nothing to write home about but they are still better then most cafes or fast food places. The music was great(was mostly jazz). The staff were very inviting and friendly. The place has an awesome view of the river and it’s extremely close to Flinders Street Station. Highly recommended from me.
G. C.
Rating on location and drinks, and the amazing looking food....The on tap negroni is awesome, people watching plus as the narrow Bar runs the length of flinders and overlooks the river path....this sunny spring sat afternoon there is more foot traffic walking through the bar.....pumping, ultimate meet up spot to plan your nights shenanigans! Very quiet on a weekday, delicious chips with truffle pecorino yum...
A. M.
Staff, atmosphere and cocktails all great! Would've been nice to have a gluten-free dessert option.
G. R.
Very pleasant riverside vebue for food and drinks. Menu has a good range of tasty burgers with a lettuce option if you don't want the bun. Chips are crisp and not over cooked or oily. Bookings are welcome and staff friendly. Out door heaters if the air is chilly and space for larger groups.
E. C.
I spied this place from Flinders St station platform and it looked like a mini adventure to find it, but well worth looking for the staircase from flinders to take you down to the riverfront and Arbory entry. A casual place to enjoy the river, great choice of wines by the glass and reasonable menu: lunch, small bites & larger serves. Recommended.
G. M.
Always go there for a Burger by the Yarra. The cheeseburger is spot on and price is actually pretty good considering location and quality/quantity of food. I heard great feedback for the mushroom burger too, but bit disappointed by the chicken one. Oh, and I love their BBQ sauce!
K. F.
Tasty food with a great view! Great selection of bar spirits and drinks.
G. D.
Definitely an all-round winner you can't go wrong with. There's a great variety of food and drinks, and the location overlooking the Yarra River and Southbank is perfect in the warmer/sunny months in Melbourne.
Whether it's after-work drinks, a work function, catch-up with friends or even if you're just taking in the sites - this is definitely a worthy candidate for consideration.
For the dating crowd, this is quite a tactical location. Presenting an option of waterfront class to an invitee, given the vicinity to Flinders Street Station you won't have to run far if your date is a trainwreck that looks like a foot.
L. K.
Arbory is such a great venue in an amazing location! Perfect on a summers night with their watermelon margarita!
Ive been here in winter also and had espresso martinis !
The food is good and great value , bar/pub style but really good !
It definitely gets busy on a Friday after work which I tend to avoid! Other then that it's awesome !
M. M.
Perfect place to chill & enjoy a drink while you watch the world go by. Staff were friendly, had aperol spritz on tap & my southern fried chicken burger was delish! Will definitely be back to systematically work my way through the food & cocktail menu 🍹
M. P.
5 stars delicious burger in Melbourne. Nice scenery. Recommended.
M. R.
Evening well spent here. Tasty vegan burger great paired with a glass of fruity beer. I wouldn’t mind having the same again.
D. R.
Tasty and enjoyable, but the crispy pork was entree size rather than full meal
T. F.
Amazing! Good food. Cheap drinks. Their banquet option is very much worth it (too bad they only do minimum booking of 10 now). Have been 4 times to Arbory, charcuterie board is to die for! Recommend.
S. H.
The heaters provided warmth, drinks were plenty and well priced, we had a snack - arinchini balls just lovely. Seating was comfortable, service bar easy to access. Enjoyable.
R. R.
Popped in for a cider this past week and very much enjoyed the calm and serene atmosphere. The cider was served cold in a pint glass - delicious. The view along the river was pleasant and lovely - great people watching. Staff was friendly and warm - all in all a great place to stop.
D. N. L.
I love this place so much!!! Nice ambience and vibes. Good food options and same price than other places not that fancies in Melbourne
N. D.
This is by far, the best idea in Melbourne I have seen in a little while. What’s better than trying to catch up with a couple of people for a drink or a bite just before you all head home from the city’s most central location? Absolutely nothing.
Location
On the banks of the Yarra River and literally outside Flinders Street station, Arbory will soon become synonymous amongst the working crowd of Melbourne as the place to visit. The brilliant open air venue makes it a wonderful addition to the city and mixes an outdoor rooftop venue with a good bar vibe. During summer, this place is always packed either with office folk, tourists or Christmas parties. Winter, it’s a little quiet though the weeknights light up with their warm outdoor heaters and a great selection of bites.
Besides, this is now, quintessential Melbourne and was definitely a stop over for The Domestic Traveller Tours!
Food
Look, I’ll be honest – there is only one meal that is worth coming to check out over here. And it has to be the Southern Fried Chicken Burger. Your challenge is to eat it whilst it is still warm before you finish taking all the photos.
The brioche bun is delicious and exactly coated in the right amount of butter. But the chicken. Oh Lawdy Lawd. That chicken. The crunch, the whole mouthed feeling. I tell you one thing, it’s over too soon. Too damn soon. Why are you so good?
The other thing I can recommend from here (and purely for the novelty) is to get the Espresso Martini which is on tap. It’s not the best Espresso Martini (more on where the best one is located soon) but for the pure novelty of seeing an espresso martini being poured from a tap… it’s worth it.
1.75/2.0
Cost
The burger came in at a wonderful $16. The espresso martini at $20. For the review, I’m going to include both rather than just the meal.
0.75/1.0
Ambiance
Having a DJ pumping tunes on a Friday night, or some slow music during the week – this place is great. Besides, there is nothing like sitting and watching the world go by on a stool whilst enjoying a meal, a drink and a good conversation or two. The only challenge is ordering drinks when the bar is packed. You got to just be patient, and let the people that have been waiting there the longest go in.
0.75/1.0
Service
The service as you’d expect, fluctuates when there are more customers but not in the direction you are thinking. The more customers they have, the faster and more efficient they become. Don’t ask me why or how, but I think it works on a business perspective. During the slow times, you want the perception of slow so you can enjoy yourself but during the rush, you want the meals to be fast.
1.0/1.0

Small portions for the price, and when I asked them to replace the feta with some chickpeas (to make the water lemon salad vegan), they said that the could only remove ingredients but not replace it with something else. They had another dish with chickpeas, so it should be a no brainer to do.
F. C.
This experience was delightful but the chairs were far from the table and you couldn’t move them. The music was to loud but other then that the food was PIFFINGTON.
H. P.
I've returned here multiple times, the atmosphere, and the scenery, I doubt you will find a bar in Melbourne that can provide the consistency in food, and atmosphere that shows off so much of Melbourne's assets. Perfect blend of nature and development. 100% outdoor dining venue. In winter with over 80 heaters and blankets you are rearly cold. ❤️ This place.
b. p.
What a lovely place. You are on a houseboat with bar, restaurant and pool all rolled into one. The fashion was spectacular. It's seems the place to be on a lovely summer's day. Friendly service, beautiful view. Although, I can get a bit windy it is worth the wind blown look.
A. S.
— Best customer service
— Accommodat our request on busy day after lockdown
— Friendly staff
— best place to have beer and snacks over yaara river
One thing they need to improve beer collection and offer jugs as well
G. M.
Best Bar in Melbourne. Amazing City View and it’s beautiful to have drinks next to the River. Best to try in Summers. I have been to this place several times and I still enjoy. 🖖
D. H.
Great location, with plenty of space adjacent relaxed atmosphere
R. H.
Fantastic food and bar. Had the best time here. Thoroughly recommend you visit. We had a lunch and a dinner here. Great selection of food. Great staff.
B. F.
Great location, good selection of beers and really friendly staff. Highly recommend!
K. Z.
Really Nice chicken wings and steak!!!!
Chicken wings are sweet, it's so different from other fry chicken wings.
唐.
Riverside dining under heat wasn't that pleasant for summer like this. But the level of cuisine/service/music is awesome.
G. S.
Cool eatery and bar overlooking the Yarra River. Leafy tree line setting with plenty of seating. Food and service are good, for something light crumpets with jam or honey or if you hungry the poach eggs with bacon.
C. L.
Nice float along the river - good selection drinks and finger food. Busy over lunch and late evenings. Good chill house live mix too, not too loud. Only gripe are some flies that needs to be dealt with.
pro tip: catch the 3-5pm off peak, oversee the best south riverbank views with a few glasses from VIC.
J. C.
One of the best Lobster Rolls in the city! Always fresh and gorgeous brioche roll
K. K.
Love the place and ambience, our go-to place. Summer or winter! Cocktails or Beers to mulled wine or a hot toddy! And the riverside view! 😍
R. O.
Awesome place for some drinks and snacks. Good location on the southbank of Melbourne and excellent structure with clean restrooms and patio heaters .
M. D. c.
Great local that doesn’t have to be local. Right next door to Melbourne’s Flinders Street station a hub of lovely laid back midweek, weekend or anytime quick or longer drinks. Handily located for “I’m just on my way home darling” or “I’ll meet you here guys” or first date safe territory
Lovely waterside views
B. K.
Excellent place for hangout and very convenient as it is located just next to the flinders street station (heart of Melbourne). Good food.
D. G.
A very busy place ideal location and has a lot of social butterflys
C. P.
Nice vibe, good snacks, pizzas and small meals
F. T.
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool.
S. B.
Ive been here multiple times. This bar has a nice view, nice drinks and very nice burgers. However, the risotto and broccolini were not good.
A. D.
One of the best place for date night. Outstanding view of the Yarra river, with drinks and food makes it memorable experience.
P. T.
Amazing place to spend time, having wine and taste variety of food.
b. d.
Would have to be one of the longest bars in the world. Overlooks the river and looks into the trains coming and going. Reasonable price bar food and beers were affordable. There are countless gas heaters going to keep you warm for your visit. Dress code by staff and guests casual.
V. H.
I enjoyed a delicious mushroom burger with chips and charred corn. If I lived in Melbourne I'd eat here regularly.
L. J.
Quinoa salad and hot dog were delicious. Staff friendly and efficient.
M. A.
Great location to people watch rowers on the river. Good menus to accompany you selected beverage.
G. J.
Great atmosphere and meals. Chili dog was amazing and full to the brim! Nice place with heaters and friendly staff.
R. A.
Food was good but a little small for the $$ and staff at the bar are rude.
R. A.
Chillie dog rocked my world. Came back new menu had an American hot dog. Love this spot all time favorite in Melbourne. ^__^ mint hot sauce selection too as well as tomatoe etc ^__^
A. T.
20mins for a coffee on a Sunday morning. Melb Marathon on but it wasn’t that busy at 830am. Got the poached eggs with bacon/mushroom. Eggs cooked excellent. Service is a bit slow this morning but otherwise, ok. Would expect more from the price but you’re probably paying a premium for the location/view. Didn’t a warm impression from a select couple of the staff who frankly didn’t look like they wanted to be there on a Sunday morning.
B. C.
It's more about location (which can't be beat) then service. Oyster trolley a nice touch, plate of truffle chips that waft pass you are hard to beat.
J. A.
Great vibes, food and views of Melbourne!! Loved the Rosé wine and the oysters. Cool music playing too.
B.
Great bar, nice views full of beautiful ppl
D. K. P.
Food was so good, the location is nice and the staff was friendly. Will go back again! Btw, the musis is a bit too loud.
B. P.
Always love the vibe of sitting on the Yarra River at Arbory watching the world float by. Always great on a chilly Melbourne night when the heaters go in, fire drums are lit and the city lights up. Disappointed this time with the food, Philly Cheese steak was like a salt bomb as was the bland fried chicken burger. Still, all in all, it’s a great part of Melbourne
R. L.
Beautiful outdoor bar and eatery that overlooks the river. We went here at night for drinks and small nibbles and it was fantastic. Warm outdoor heating, an extensive wine/cocktail/beer list and snacks including croquets, cheese and more.
M. B.
I miss this place, I love the ambience here at night. I walked pass the other day when I was doing my morning walk. I'm not sure if you are renovating or closed permanently?
M. C.
Cute place to grab a drink *on* the water. Drinks are a little pricey but to be expected for the location. 14 AUD for an aperol spritz. Maybe wouldn’t recommend on too hot of a day as those leather seats can be a bit brutal... maybe the loungers would be better?
G. K.
Fantastic service, friendly and helpful staff members, extremely aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Definitely recommend for drinks and also food!!
R. K.
Caught up with friends after a looong time. Quick service and a great view. Being a fan of Gin, their collection was quite good. However, they did serve even the good ones in a tall glass with the house tonic instead of something more premium like fever tree.! Just curious..
麵.
Food is yummy
Staff is nice
Having lunch by the Yarra river is wonderful
Melbourne really is a good place
M. M.
Could see Yarra river.
Nice choice of tap beer!! Especially night time is so exciting!!
L. P. Z.
We had a great early evening of drinks and nibbles. The reservation system is easy to use; and provided assurance that a table would be waiting for us (especially with rain predicted for the afternoon & evening. All tables were spaced well - and the service was friendly and flawless. We'll be back again over the remaining spring days and upcoming summer days.
S. G.
It’s always too busy and hard to find a seat. Amazing location and view. Nice food.
S. O.
Love it, such a cool.spot ,plenty of places to sit, fires, and a great veiw
P. N.
Would recommend to any travellers to Melbourne. Great atmosphere, plenty of local beers on tap, beautifully shaded against those hot Melbourne summer days
T. D.
I'm a huge fan of Arbory, especially Afloat. The venues great, the food and beverages are always sensational, the staff do the best they can given the number of patrons. The ability to get a seat is often difficult, and since it's in the city, it's often full. Would love to see a better booking system in place, but we can't have everything!

Perfect location beside the river and meals and drinks at a very affordable price. Great Atmosphere any time of the day or night.

Yesterday we came to the Arbory for a quick drink and decided to have some food. Unfortunately the drinks weren't that great.. but the food on the other hand, was INCREDIBLE! We had the hotdog and the steak sandwich. The bread was so yummy and all of the condiments worked so well with the meat. Yum yum!
R. N.
Good spot bar if you get there mid week later in the night, otherwise busy bar, not very organised, had a couple of time area booked which they screwed and couldn’t manage to keep the area empty, ended up going somewhere else just by a SORRY, but if you choose a good time, like later in the evening midweek, specially in summer with Afloat running, great place to be
M. M.
Service could be better. Nobody came around to ask if we needed anything since we were a big group. We were at a corner table in front of the kitchen so it shouldn't be hard for waiting staff to come by. Also the music was following no theme and was random and didn't suit the mood of the place. Work on the music selection please. Would only go back for the location but not otherwise.

We had a very special night out at Arbory Afloat. It was the perfect venue for our girls night out away from the everyday stresses of family life to unwind and have loads of belly laughs. Our waiter was fantastic. It was only his second shift but he did an excellent job of looking after us.
J. W.
It’s a go-to place for the Instagram crowd. The cocktails are cheap when you hit the time for specials but they are delicious. I wouldn’t really rate the service and the place can get overly busy with pretentious people.
Nice place to go for a drink or two but wouldn’t stay long.
J. S.
Tasty breakfast, coffee surprisingly tasty (I usually dislike most of the coffees in most of the breakfast places in Melbourne), nice view to the river, friendly staff.
J. H.
2nd time we've been here, this time I just wanted a hot drink, was recommended the hot mulled cider in a tin camp mug, wow, so nice & on such a cold day it was lovely, the outside heaters were a treat as the rain set in. Thanks again guys for a great experience.
C. d. J. (.
Great outdoor bar/restaurant conveniently located by Flinders Street station. Lunch menu has good variety and meals very tasty. The new section on the pontoon provides even more outdoor seating (and covered) which is particularly useful with current COVID situation.
E. W.
Arbory is an unpretentious go-to spot for drinks and food in a leafy, super convenient location. Day or night, summer or winter, it's stretched out, multi-section layout and relaxed vibe creates a sense of privacy for deep conversation or enough space for a group to make a noise. It may not be the hippest place in town but that could be what makes it so cool.
R. B.
Awesome. Went for a late lunch on New Year's Eve. The team were excellent. Special shout out to Tayla who made our afternoon very memorable (for all the right reasons). Love the place will be back again.
Y. Z.
Snuggly Bar in the heart of Melbourne, right next to the Yarra River. The view is nice and the bar is well prepared for all seasons. During winter there are heaters to keep you warm. The hot spiced cider is a homerun!

Nice atmosphere with refreshing views. A great place to hangout with friends.
E. B.
Great place for drinks day or night , good food and friendly staff.
G. V.
Wonderfully relaxing with great service
P. J.
Has to be the premier bar in Melbourne! Plus the food is great!
G. S. (.
A fave! Nestled along the riverside overlooking Southbank, it's great to watch people stroll by and relax under the greenery of the trees on a fine, warm day. A good selection of drinks and pretty good bar food too. A lively but relaxing atmosphere. Nothing beats al fresco!
W. T.
Beautiful under the trees with views of Yarra and Southgate. Breakfast menu and food exceptional.
C. B.
Still a great place to eat. Their social distancing and health protocols are great.
The protection and safety of their customers seems like it is important to them, which is great in these uncertain times.
Another great experience.
R. T.
A lovely place right on the Yarra to have a long lunch.
V. b. S.
Very good and easily accessible place open till late with great views of city and yarra river. Food is ok. Good drinks options. Nice selection of wines.
S. D.
It was OK. We walked past last weekend on the way to catch a train & it looked like the place to be. Needs some notifications on website or at entrance to better direct patrons. Also feel fries with cheese could have been put under the grill a minute to melt the cheese...asked for tomatoes sauce but it never came & the same server walked past several times.
R. P.
It's bigger again this year, has a dip pool and cocktails on tap.
Highly recommended
M. B.
Best location on the water! Brilliant addition to a already awesome bar right in the heart of the city. Can’t beat this on a hot day or evening :)
J. H.
A-Float Bar = Bright airy floating bar and eatery opposite and part of Arbory. Nice food. Heaps of spirits on tap, eg spritz etc about 10 taps. And beers adout 8 taps. Very busy. Noisy fun loving young crowd. Has a DJ but has lousy boof boof music. No Rolling Stones etc. Prices average for this area. Nice staff. Minimum wait time for food or bar service. U need to have a drink here to lift your spirits. Great.
K. M.
Great views and atmosphere. Staff doing a great job trying to accommodate walk ins. I suggest prebooking if you can. Electronic ordering from your phone was a great COVID safe touch. Tabke service for food and drinks was a little slow. Seemed understaffed.
E. D.
Great position on the river, so enjoyable admiring the view and enjoying a drink. Thankyou😃
m. m.
The best place to go out in hot summer nights to enjoy the views of Yarra river and have few drinks. But its not cheap.
L. T. (.
Fantastic! Good food and drinks in such a fab location, right next to Flinders! One of the waitresses seems abit moody, but other than that - great. Always a good time at Arbory :)
C. C.
What a wonderful addition to melbourne. A beautiful venue on the river with great food. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and the convenience of ordering and paying from the scan code made it simple. Will definitely be back.
I. R.
Recently had a work Christmas lunch here. What a great venue! Everyone was happy with the food, and even better for a work function, meals are pay at the bar. We were sat in a nice, shady area and able to all sit together which has been an issue at other venues. Highly recommend
B. C.
Great place to have a drink and watch the world go by.
L. H.
My friends and I love this place. I come here with various groups regularly and it's perfect for a sunny afternoon catch up. Drinks are good, the food is ok, but the outdoor setting on the river is the main draw card.
The only issue I really have is the music levels - at some point during the late afternoon/evening the music seems to be turned up loud and I can barely hear the person next to me. Not great is you're there to catch up and chat with others.
T. S.
Been my go to summer place for 4 years. Great location. Fantastic beer, great burgers. Perfect for a summer day sesh. What more can you ask for? This place is 🔥
S. M.
Great semi outdoor brunch spot / bar right on the Yarra river.
A. K.
Fun outdoor bar with great food options. Reserve a table if you have a group, otherwise grab some seats by the water and watch boats roll by.
D. S.
I loved this place for it's ambience and location. Its a floating bar which makes it perfectly picturesque, plus the weather of Melbourne makes it even more exciting. They have nicely used the bright pastel colors upholstery against white furnitures which gives this place a lift. It's definitely a good place to catch for a beer and spend some quality time.
R. G.
Nice place for a latte in the mornng overlooking the Yarra river in Melbourne CBD. Good outdoor seating with great views.
J. F.
It has a great view of the river if you can get a decent spot. Which can be hard during peak hours. They got some good variety of drinks. The food can be really good and they got some really good hot sauces. I really like the ambiance created by their live DJ.
L. F.
Love this place, love the food, the coffee and most of all the view (even in winter) what a beautiful city we live in.
E. M.
A good place to sit for a drink in the afternoon or evening - as long as you can find a seat away from the speakers which blast music so loud that you can barely have a conversation. The prices are as expected on the waterfront; but the cocktails are good and overall it's worth forking out for.
The venue is also pretty large so you're likely to find a seat even on busier days.
A. K.
It wasn’t a nice day weather wise, but the food, service and atmosphere made it an epic afternoon. We could not fault the Arbory Afloat - no wonder it’s booked out months in advance x highly recommended!
K. D.
Lunch on Arbory Afloat was very relaxing. Service fast and staff efficient. Could see they were extremely busy but they were excellent. Enjoyed our time there.
B. D.
As always - dining at Arbory (whether the Bar & Eatery - or Arbory Afloat) - is always a pleasure ! Staff are professional, courteous ... and fun ... food & beverages always great ... with plenty of choices - even in this strange COVID period!! Weather was a trifle cool .... but was just great to be there again .... keep up the good work Guys & Gals!!! 🙏🥰
N.
Decent food, good selection of drinks including whisky. Not too pricey given location.
N. K.
We usually go for a team lunch and enjoy it. This time, we had booked a big table for 8, but were given 2 small tables instead. It was a bit hard talking over the music that got loud sporadically.
Being a vegetarian, I ordered my usual - the mushroom and haloumi burger, and wasn't disappointed. I did see some new vegetarian options and may try them next time, if they give us a table that fits us all.
A. T.
Absolutley lovely staff. We had the banquet - so much food, and great food. Had to take desert away as we could not possibly fit it in. Will definitely be back. Really impressed.
J. C.
Fantastic food and a great view over the river. It's the perfect spot for when you want to have a fancy-ish lunch or dinner without blowing the bank. Although slightly expensive, the food quality is amazing, and will definitely impress anyone you take there. If you're looking for a spot to celebrate an occasion, or trying to make a good impression for a person, then this is the place to go!
V.
Love this place - always a go to when guests come to melb. Summer and winter Al fresco option!
V. N.
I have been here a few times. It is a fantastic destination if you're the instagramming type: the last time I was here, we essentially watched people snap beautiful iphone shots in various poses. I also enjoyed the beer selection here: the beers are definitely interesting and worth trying. The people who come here are a certain type. They all wear light colours. While it may get quite loud due to the crowds, I never found myself not being able to have a conversation. The one I remember eating here was a pizza, which I remember being quite delicious. And the view of course is great. The one sad thing about this place is that I think I may have lost my sunglasses here which is unfortunate but not the fault of the Arbory.
C. C.
The venue looked good, but practically it wasn't the best.
Too many people were sold tickets for the event making queuing for drinks and toilets the main activity for the place.
Certain people getting territorial over seating areas.
The good parts were the food, all the staff and the area was a good location to watch the fire works.
E. M.
Didn't go to the floating part as it was busy but had a good time with friends. Good atmosphere and friendly staff (well one guy wasn't but rest were great). Will go back again!
F. L.
Atmosphere is great . The location makes you feel like you're in a secret luxury garden . Gluten & vegan friendly. Delicious food and great music! Staff are awesome & seating for sun & shade :)
E. Y.
Great food and beautiful view!
J. M.
Amazing service, the bar staff were incredible on Melbourne Cup day, super nice and happy! The contact tracing and set up was perfect; couldn’t pick out a single fault.
J. N.
Met a friend for breakfast on a Saturday. It was quiet when we arrived. A bit unsettling on arrival as there was no greeting, sure unsure where to go for table service etc. Given there was only 2 other tables I thought they could've been more welcoming. Needless to say they brought us our coffee and breakfast and we really didn't see them again. Maybe it was too early...
Just as we're about to leave one of the staff came tho check on us who was very friendly and informative about the float (another part of the restaurant) - she saved the day!
k. k.
Such a cool bar. Love it. Sit up at the bar and watch the world float by while drinking great tap beer and wine, cocktails, great food! This place is a must stop by.
It can get really busy. Definitely best around sunset.
L. M.
Fun bar in melbourne cbd, good views of the yarra and a great selection of food and drink
J. R.
Everything was planned and set up well to stay within the social distancing rules. Was a nice touch being able to order and pay via my phone, food and drinks came very quickly. Great evening.
M. H.
Location location location! Right next to the Yarra and Flinders Street. Good place for work related catch-ups.
M. T.
Great cocktails/mocktails, wonderful service and absolutely gorgeous atmosphere on a sunny day. Highly recommend!
L. F.
This place can be very busy at times especially after work, so much so that getting a seat can be tricky. The selection of beers, wines and cocktails is pretty good and I couldn't complain about the staff. I haven't had much food but it always looks good.
It is one of the better places to drink on the Yarra but does come at the normal prices!
S. W.
Wins for location for a quick works drink catch up, being so close to Flinders station. Anything longer would have to find an indoor venue for colder nights.
A. E.
Nice spot running about 100m along the river. Heat lamps in winter and a view over to Southbank.
A. K.
Great food, we ate there two nights in a row. A great place to enjoy the night lights of the city.
J. T.
This float has a great atmosphere.. the alcohol is well priced though I think some of the food is a little bit on the expensive side and I'm sad to say they don't have their crinckle cut chips anymore. Saying that it's a great place to catch up with friends
A.
Such a great place with awesome vibes. Went on a busy night so food took a long while to get out but they did offer a free drink to resolve the issue.
J. K.
Nice spot for a wine. Food is a-okay, staff are friendly and the view of South Bank is very melbourne. Bit chilly but the heaters do a great job. Plus there’s blankets. Better in warmer weather, but conveniently close to Flinders Station so it’s hard to pass up for an afternoon drink.
G. H.
Amazing place! Good location Really happy with their customer services. This is one of the best place to enjoy some good quality Food. They are the best when it comes to Burger they have really good burger,The staff is really nice and really fast services. The staff is really helpful. They have some really good drinks. 5 stars!!!
A. F.
Great wine on tap. Guava sorbet was nice too.
S. C.
Good place and very nice atmosphere :)
J. B.
Nice place to enjoy a warm day or night. Although they have a nice selection of spirits, don't expect to get a cocktail except for what's on the short seasonal menu. Perhaps they're pre-batched, or perhaps it's lack of training, but my multiple requests were meet with a stern "no."
P. O.
Perfect view through branches of the river and the promenade opposite. I hadn't been along this walk since it was built - I don't get out enough. Drinks are $$$$ and probably no happy hour or specials but the orange wine was good and the cider crisp and dry.
A. G.
3.5 star. Nice location on the less fancy side of the river. Food and beer was good and service friendly. Lively and busy place. Music was slightly annoying and loud. Views are good of the river, bridges and city skyline. Would go back again.
B. R.
Didn't go to the floating part as it wqs busy but had a good time with friends. Good atmosphere and friendly staff (well one guy wasn't but rest were great). Will go back again!
T. M.
A fab afternoon, with great weather. Food was good, drinks were plentiful. The only glitch was towards the end of the day orders weren’t going through the electronic ordering system.
J. K.
The best lettuce bun amongst all burger shops I've been to!
t. l.
The Arbory is a beautiful large outdoor restaurant on the river. On a Saturday afternoon it was very busy with lots of people drinking and enjoying the sunshine. We had a light lunch. The food was light and fresh, although a bit on the expensive side of things. We waited a long time for food, almost too long. I would go back for drinks and small snacks.
Y. S.
The food was a hit and miss. The lamb was beautiful however it was served with a pea purée that was extremely bitter and very watery. The chips were way undercooked but the burger served with them was quite nice and enjoyed. Staff seemed a bit disinterested but still would say it is a go to place to visit for the experience. Would recommend at night so you can see the beautiful lights over the river.

This place is the perfect combination of lovely Yarra river views with delicious food. We ordered a vegan beetroot burger and arcini balls with some amazing Australian pinot noir and everything was perfect except the windy weather but on a sunny warm day it'll be a perfect lunch. The service is quick and the place done up very nicely and some nice music playing too.
A. L.
The food was delicious for such a big venue, we had lunch: zucchini flowers. Crispy and fresh. Cured salmon, Chicken wings. Nice selection of wine. Only down side. It time to ditch the plastic straw guys!!
A. H.
Great alfresco venue on the banks of the Yarra river close to Flinders street station.
They have an extensive drinks menu and a range of beverage options to suit different budgets.
Dining is available with a selection of shared plates and pub style food with some consideration for dietary requirements.
Overall this is a great venue for after work drinks or a date night. Perfect to sit back and ppl watch with warmth/comfort of heaters throughout the venue. Allowing you to stay cozy while still enjoying the outdoors 👍
J. G.
Good food, beautiful atmosphere, great location and views!
S. K.
One of the best bar burgers you can get in the city, great vibe and friendly staff.
+ great taste …
+ wide range of options, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free ...
+ good cocktails and local beers ...
+ great vibe …
+ friendly staff …
+ reasonable price …
Tip 1: it can get very busy and noisy especially during weekends!
Tip 2: you can't book a table, so you should go there and look for tables--include that in your planning.
I highly recommend this place, these folks know their stuff!
T. W.
The food is good, not great. It feels mass-produced. My wife's prawns were not fresh but improperly thawed. At $68 for 500g it should have been better. The alcohol is very expensive. Yes, it was Xmas but it's hard to escape the feeling one was in an upmarket food barn. Service a bit better than OK. I won't go back to a Crowne complex restaurant any time soon.
P. A.
Such a great atmosphere and outlook. Highly recommend the sangria and Pacific oysters ❤
N. G.
Around 3pm and in the sunshine the vibes at the arbory were great, super chilled and fun. After 6pm it was just way too crowded and the mood definitely changed. The bar staff were rushing and the cocktails that had earlier looked so beautiful were sadly no longer up to scratch. There were no clean glasses/ jugs for a load of the drinks too so we didn’t even have a choice in the end - pimms or pimms!
It’s a shame because the views from the Arbory are amazing but I won’t be returning too quickly.
C. M.
Pretty awesome chilled. Enjoyed breakfast with some alcohol.
C. M.
It's nice but a shame no Parma in the menu
J. M.
Amazing food and drinks! Walked in on Christmas Day without a booking with our small dog, the staff were amazing, and even brought a water bowl over for her.
We've been back again and this place never disappoints!
J. S.
Great venue with a fantastic menu and drinks offering... Unfortunately being start of the summer season it was extremely busy and staff/kitchen couldn't cope with menu meals having to be refunded or never arrived. Worth trying again.
D. K.
Great food and drink. Outstanding service during these uncertain times. Using your phone to order and pay making the experience a whole lot easier
B. B.
Great place for drinks and views.
S. A.
Very popular place. Lovely outlook over the yarra
A. G.
Decent pricing given its location. The squid rings were hot and juicy. The corn cobs could have had a little less butter (I smelled like butter the entire night). Service and ambiance is enjoyable. A lady with oysters on a cart was going around with $2 a pop - they were delicious!
P. K. (.
Just imagine a glass of beer and yara river's beauty. Amazing
M. Z.
Nice atmosphere and good music. The location is also great and the view is amazing around sunset. The drinks and food are all nice and not too pricy for such a nice place. Would recommend!
K. P.
I am in love with this place - Literally! This is my second visit in Melbourne and third time at Arbory! What a view and fab customer service. Such a convenient location too! The food is great too - especially the pizzas and love the heaters next to the tables!
C.
Came here for drinks one evening. There are heaps of people at this place and has a nice vibe. Heaps of beer selections, not many places to sit and chat considering the number of people that come.
Great location, easy to stumble to the train station drunk to get home instead of driving.
G. A.
Relaxed atmosphere, plenty of heaters, fires and seats to enjoy a beautiful view of Southbank. Great drinks selection including delicious cocktails. Some really impressive food, try the hot dog or the fried chicken burger with those amazing buns
M. Z.
This place is normally very busy in the weekends. Be prepared to stand because there isn't any available place to sit. Try booking ahead or coming early if you want to sit. Also be prepared to wait for your food. The location is absolutely fantastic so it's very popular for both the locals and tourists. A good place to hang out this summer.
M. S.
This is the perfect "hustle and bustle" place to have a few drinks whether it's cold (mulled wine!) or hot. It's probably not the best place during rain as a lot of the area is open. It's trendy and the location between the river and the train station makes for both great views and easy transport. Well worth visiting. Can get very packed on a Friday afternoon, so worth going early to secure a spot.
A. G.
Had a large family gathering here, food was high quality, but id suggest getting entree or some extra chips to go with most mains. Atmosphere is unreal on the verge of too busy. No table service makes it hard to order food and drinks. Couldnt even get a jug of water for the table of 20, no soft drink jugs, no beer jugs. On a hot day we were pressed to get a bucket of ice to keep our carafe of wine cool. Try and steer clear of busy time to enjoy the place more.
시.
Best food~Best view~Best beer~
A.
Amazing views over the beautiful Southbank, few nice beer options & burgers are great even for non burger eaters like myself. Other food options are not that great. You will not find Anything healthy here so prepare yourself to be decadent if you health freak. Awesome atmosphere. Always packed to the full. And no wonder: they have shade for summer, fire in winter, great music and did I mention super pretty views? Really great! Prepare to wait for food however as it is VERY busy!
N. K.
Loved this place. Overlooking the Yarra River it is perfectly placed for a sunny day lunch or an after-office drinks. The location is great - sandwiched between the Flinders Street station and the Yarra River. The food was great. We ordered a veg burger and gnocchi. Both turned out to be very good. They have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. Staff was kind and polite. Worth a second visit.
S. M.
We went for Christmas lunch, it was absolutely amazing! Beautiful food, lovely staff, amazing views! The food was a little slow but when you're feeding a whole lot of people on Christmas day we were happy to enjoy the unlimited drinks while we waited!
A.
I discovered Arbory Bar when catching up with mates. Hidden behind Flinders Street Station, and right on the Yarra River, this gem is not worth Missing. With its hip young crowd, garnered by loud pumping music, you'd think you're on the banks of the Thames or Another European capital city. The bar and eatery is serviced by converted shipping containers serving a range of beverages and food offerings. Don't be fooled though, this place is pumping and it's best to get in early if you want a seat.
L. C.
Came here for a drink during weekday and the ambience and view towards Yarra viver was fabulous! Would recommend for a date night, because it's also not very loud. Had cider and a beer and found the price to be reasonable for the location.
G. D.
The food was fantastic and so was the atmosphere, however the tables don't get cleared quick enough and work is required on the cleanliness standard during customer changeover.
I think it would be beneficial for business and people in larger groups if customers that were hogging the 6 seater tables with only two people were situated elsewhere by the staff to make space for larger groups.
S. H.
Operating smoothly despite the strictures of virus safety, and the tasty treats and cocktails are still being delivered at their customary high level of quality.
J. J.
Great location. Whether local or tourist, great place to relax and soak up all the views of Melbourne city. Great menu for simple delicious food. Good beers on tap but could have a few more. Cool old school sound track with visiting too.
M. L.
Great view and good food.
g. k.
Great food and setting right on the river. Sometimes hard to find a seat/table. Outdoors has umbrellas and heaters at each table. Must order food and drink at bar. Then delivered to your table. Fridays can be very very busy.
A. L.
Been here many times. As always on a weekend it was busy. Very busy. Loud vibrant and interesting. The weather made the scenery spectacular. The food was as always delicious and while it was very busy we didn’t have to wait that long. Well worth a visit.
D. S.
Love the pontoon set up on the river. Huge bar, lots of seating, good menu, and friendly staff. Ideal spot to bring friends for relaxing afternoon drinks and food, in comfortable surrounds with great views.
d. m.
We were staying in this part of town for two nights and decided that we needed to look at the other side of the Yarra River. Less people than on the south warf side. Quick and friendly service with an outside bar (lovely for those balmy nights) with a lovely view and a quiet location right on the Yarra River. Definitely worth a try if looking for something different.
S. P.
Fantastic place and they have a great COVID-safe QR system. Great food and drink options with friendly staff. Undercover with a beatiful view of the Yarra river and Southbank.
J.
Nice place, very cosy as long as you stay warm. There weren't quite enough heaters to go around, understandable since it weren't to busy yet but it seemed like it would be a good idea to fire a few more heaters up preemptively. Otherwise nice bartenders and crowd hanging here, friendly people striking up conversation randomly.
J. W.
Nice spot to wait for the train, or for a large work lunch group (20). Not cheap eats, but to be expected because of the location. Nice tasting burgers & beer on tap. Can be a bit cold and wet with no walls but I like that they give you blankets to keep warm.
S. G.
Great place to grab a drink after work or just because it's beer o'clock. Burgers are great accompaniment to the drinks. Location is one of the best in the city being just a little bit elevated over the river. Highly recommended for a few hours one nice sunny afternoon
P. C.
Nice location, reasonably priced house wine which tasted pretty good and friendly staff. My chicken burger looked great but wasn't as tender as it should have been.
I'd definitely go back to try other dishes.
D. P.
Huge selection of drinkies, good quality food and a ripper environment. Nice casual scene and gas heaters for when it's cold. Right next to the river and the station, if your train departs in a couple of minutes you'll have time to sink a couple of pints.
M. B.
Nice place but is was very full
J. H.
Nice place to chill and have a drink. Foods are certainly over priced.
A. P.
Fantastic food, service and an incredible river view! Will definitely visit again.
D. L.
Nice location on the Yarra for a coffee or a wine etc.
D. S.
I loved this place for it's ambience and location. Its a floating bar which makes it perfectly picturesque, plus the weather of Melbourne makes it even more exciting. They have nicely used the bright pastel colors upholstery against white …

Awesome venue on the water. 👌
G. B.
Great vibe. Very relaxing, nice food.
J. W.
Veggie burgers and vegan!
G. S.
Fun place to meet friends, something different which is nice
N. D.
For a place right under/next to Flinders Street station, it suffers none.
Reasonably priced food and drink, and certainly with a great taste. The view is just as lovely as the atmosphere of the whole area really lends to the experience.
Give the halloumi mushroom burger a go for something fun, or if you're after a bit of a kick, the southern fried chicken burger is your answer.
N. M. (.
Great spot for drinks and snacks.
M. A.
Trendy waterfront bar right off flinders street with a seasonal float for additional seating. Plenty of beers on tap, however would like to see more of a cider selection. Plenty of food options, however I'd recommend dining during the off peak periods.
D.
The layout is a bit of a pain. This loooong and narrow bar gets packed really easily (this is not the bars for groups larger than about 6) and there's always a walk/wait to buy food and drinks as there's no table service.
On a good day it's a wonderful vista overlooking the river. The food are drinks are not great value given you have to order them yourself.
I award an extra star for being able to enjoy watching miserable commuters waiting for their train home watching you sipping on a cold beer...!
P. R.
Had a tasty early brekky here on Easter Saturday. Perfectly so poached eggs with delicious flavoursome bacon and y6mmy homemade tomato relish. Staff were friendly and efficient. A nice start to the day with a view of the river
S. b.
Had a really nice hot dog, made with a brioche bun. This was great for $15. The seats we had were really good, overlooking the yarra. The actual seats were built in the ground and uncomfortable. They could not be moved which was disappointing. You get uncomfortable pretty quick.
A. M.
The location is both nice and bad. Being outdoors and on the Yarra River is great, being next to the train station, less so. The clientele are distinctly from the city - lots of make-up and fashion labels - which is not my scene. The beer is served in schooners, which I can't condone.
N. 4. t. t.
It was a good day, they were quite busy so the food took close to 45mins to arrive..but everything else from atmosphere to staff was great.
V. V.
The bar to be after work or even the weekends!!! Always can makes everyone happy with good service and delicious food. The view is one the best during night time, even winter time as well!!! Highly recommended for everyone!!!

This place is located in a sliver of land between Flinders street station and the Yarra river (as I'm sure is easily gathered). The space is unique for the width of the place with plently of areas for seating.
Good selection of beer/wine (both are on tap and in bottles). Food is above average for a small pub.
Music and crowd is always welcoming.
This place is cool and is worth a gander.

Busy on weekends and Friday nights. But affordable drinks and buzzing athmosphere. Usually where all the young-pros congregate. It's the longest bar you'll meet in Melbourne, stretches for for 150m along the formidable Flinders Street station. Recommended for anyone, but perhaps go a little earlier than peak hours to ensure a seat.

Arbory bar is a very spacious and long bar alongside the Yarra river; it's a lovely and romantic place if you want to bring your date (especially with those natural flames it will drive your date insane!). It gets quite busy during weekends so make sure you book a table! Staff are very friendly and drinks are not very expensive.
They do provide breakfast as well if you want to enjoy your morning treat next to Yarra river!
Lunch time starts from 11:30AM everyday and they keep menu open till late night!
Lovely experience i really recommend to try at least once!

A wonderful venue to get a beverage at in the evening or on a sunny day ✌🏼
D. R.
Nice view and atmosphere right by the river. Can get very busy. Pretty typical bar food and drink offers and prices. I expect I'll be back there again sometime.
A. L.
Yes yes yes!
On a night evening even in wonder it is great here. Just as good is an afternoon. Good and wine are great as are all the other drink options, but what makes this place is where it is. Perfect spot on the river. A must for Tourists and Locals alike.
If you haven't been check it out.
M. O.
Arbory is the go to place for pre- or post-event drinks... Reliable spot for any time you're meeting friends from different corners of the city. Convenient location plus a nice view, and good food and beverages.
Often busy after 5pm, if you like a seat try to get in just before afternoon peak hour or wait a bit as people do move in and out a lot. Also, if it is a weekday it's less busy later in the evening.
C. H.
I'm still not quite sure about Arbory. An interesting bar, but I'd avoid it at peak times.
Arbory's extremely long, skinny geometry means there are views over the river from any point. This is great in off-peak times. However if you're coming during peak hours, the layout becomes awkward. You may be struggling for space in a claustrophobic environment with waiters trying to battle their way up and down the length of the bar.
There are some interesting and tasty drinks on the menu. The Food looks excellent although I have yet to try it.
D. S.
Bar amazing and the view I don't have words to describe!
N.
While visiting the city I sat here for spritzers with my aunt and cousins. It was really full and busy but its a nice vibe and beautiful setting 😊
P. H.
Very upbeat and modern. For my old legs I could only find high stools and tables. A bit uncomfortable but the trees were lovely and cool on a particularly hot day. Great friendly and quick service. The view looking out over the floating arbory and the Yarra river was a pleasant way to watch the bustle of Melbourne go buy.
C. T.
Great place on a beautiful day. Felt like I was sitting amongst the trees and their greenery with a great vantage point to the Yarra below. Cold beer, great food. The perfect way to spend a Melbourne afternoon.
P. T.
Was there in mid winter, they had plenty fireplaces to keep crowds nice and warm. Can have tap espresso martini with river view love this place. Place for both tourists locals
L. W.
Love this place. Sharing a cocktail jug with a friend or two, enjoying the views over the yarra and just catching up is always a wonderful night. Staff are always wonderful and it's rare to see an empty glass left for more than a few moments
L.
Great location, perfect summer bar. Mixed crowd, great drinks with a view. The food looked awesome as well. Very conveniently located next to flinders st station so if you have a few too many you can hop on public transport home
P. L.
Arbory Float. Great way to chill out in an evening watching the river and the sun set. That is, If you can get a space! It's packed for a reason. The food is fresh and the cocktail and gin menu are light and refreshing.
A. W.
Young, attractive people enjoying tasty selections from a good range of drinks and cocktails in a cool atmosphere. Service is good despite the crowds, as this is a very popular venue for after-work drinks. Views out over the Yarra River and into the iconic Flinders Street Railway Station. Despite being entirely open air it is protected from the elements by large umbrellas and is smoke-free so not ruined by that dirty habit.
One negative is the fact that crowds make getting to/from the toilets/bar/exits tricky in this very long, very narrow venue. Also, staff did not bring the necessary condiments with the meal, in stead inviting us to help ourselves from a shelf half way through the venue! That was a pain in the arse considering how good the food was.

This place was recommended to me by a local friend and im glad i stopped by, its got a nice vibe to it and when i visited (sunday lunch) it wasn't too packed. Its a little hipster and reminds me of Sydneys The Newport, but with river views instead. Its a nice place to have lunch or even grab a coffee, and there's plenty of outdoor heaters if you're worried about the weather.
I had the cheese burger which was nice but a bit rare for my taste, maybe ask for well done if you don't like your meat rare
N. C.
Great location and great food/drink. The music they play is not a good match for location. Too loud and too harsh with much too much midrange frequency. They could do a lot better by aiming for a more relaxed gestalt.
J. H.
Great place to take in the view while waiting for the train. Not cheap, but you're paying for the location. Good music, although a bit too loud. Occasionally long wait times at the bar show that it's a victim of its own success. Thoroughly recommended.
S. C.
A trendy spot by the Yarra! The bouncers at the “float” were unnecessarily mean but the staff at the regular Arbory were super nice and made us feel comfortable. A good selection of beers and their food is reasonably priced.
J. O.
Loved this place super quirky and a great use of the space on the river.
Huge selection of drinks, beer, wine and cocktails. Avaerage price for the city.
Really nice share platters avaliable. Great spot on the Yarra and would reccommend as a great ppl place to catch up with friends after work or when on holidays or a trip.
A. m.
Ordered the Double cheeseburger with chips. Was not disappointed. Coming back to Melbourne I have been on a burger crawl through the city. Happy to say this one is right at the top of my list from now on. Thanks guys!
T. Y.
Food and drink were both great, with a wonderful selection of beers on tap. Location can get a little loud with peak hour trains, and staff are very abrupt and often rude, but other than that a decent price for the quantity.
F. A.
An amazing location to meet friends. Wonderful food and fantastic, welcoming staff.
N. N.
Friendly staff, great view
L. E.
Delicious bar/ eatery located on the water essentially under the bridge in Melbourne. They have delicious burgers, salads, etc. Really you can't go wrong here! You order at the bar and then take the number to a seat. Super popular spot for happy hour as well.
J. W.
Great place for a bite and a pint during the day. The place is massive and stretches along the river. There is also a floating portion on the river with a more beachy feel. Cabanas and loungers down there make it a chic space to watch the Australian Open.
R. K.
Awesome restaurant by the Yarra, with excellent burgers. The staff we're very helpful and the view was marvelous. Not the best place to be when it's windy or raining but the portable heat lamps and open fires keep you warm and make for a great atmosphere.
D. O.
Great place for a drink but the food is average. The anchovie with mozzarella definitely didn't come with a tomato fondue, more like chopped tomatoes. Pizza was ok. Still worth going for the water view.
O.
Really cool place, delicious cocktails
h. a.
Wonderful lunch spot for a casual catch up over a burger. Delicious beer too.
D. K.
Good atmosphere without feeling too crowded and excellent on warmer days being by the water with plenty of shade.
C. S.
Lovely place to escape the city hustle and bustle. Yummy pizza. Just watch the seats on the edge, there's no safeguards against bags under feet rolling into the river, or phones dropping in!.
M. N.
Bar located on the water. Very nice atmosphere and spacious. Has lots of outdoor heating so you'll never be cold. Woodfire pizza available.
N. M.
Nice place to drop in for a drink when the weather is fine. Located between Flinders Street Station and Yarra River. The food is ok. All the tables are outdoors, under the shade of trees so good for when it's hot, and they have plenty of outdoor heating for when it's cold. But if it's rainy or windy give it a miss. The view of the Yarra is usually lovely except for when they have their floating arbory set up in the Summer months. It's pretty much no table service; you order at the bar and help yourself to cutlery, serviettes, sauces etc from the shelves next to the bar and food is brought to the table.
J. E.
Great for people watching along the rivers edge. Great food, good drinks, given how big it is its surprisingly squishy ( maybe a bit more breathing space between tables?) we always try and get facing the yarra ( as why else would you come here?)
R. E. H.
Arbory is a top spot to catch up with workmates, dates, or friends. The drinks are a bit expensive, but you expect it with the location, and the menu has delicious snacks. It's pretty loud, usually when I've been there there was a DJ playing good tunes. Maybe that wouldn't work if you have quiet friends.
L. C.
Very nice seafood platter to share. Great place to meet friends from all over Melbourne. Very central. Arbory is a hidden gem. Best on a clear day without rain predicted.
J. Q.
Great Melbourne dining experience; alongside the Yarra & opposite Southbank. Food choices & prices great. Ambient music style fine, but too loud for conversing with friends.
E. M.
Great burger and chips, solid craft beer selection. Can be busy at times and tough to find a seat, plus you have to order your own food from the bar, no waiters take orders.
S. C.
Such a great place. On an old train platform overlooking the Yarra, sheltered outdoors, a bar, casual food, good for catching up with friends or taking family & kids. Appealing to locals & tourists. I had a toasted cheese sandwich which came with the tinyest pickles ever. My only complaint was that the meat smoker was sitting out in full view & there wasn't any on the menu - this breaks my Texan husband's heart.
S. M.
One of the most iconic bars near the tarea to enjoy a good gin. During summer they build the Arvory Float on the rover. Great place to hang out with friends.
R. W.
Great place as a central catch up with people who live on the other side of the city to you. Right next to the Flinders street station Flinders walk exit, and stretches all away across to swanston st. Good coffee and baked goods, friendly staff, though they should make it a little clearer that you have to order at the bar.
B. T.
Great atmosphere amazing position on water.Cocktails not as good as other years.Worth a visit still
A. C.
A fantastic outdoor bar that stretches along the Yara River opposite Southbank. A great place to meet friends for a few evening drinks, or espresso martinis served on tap. A real feel good, party vibe place that's always busy but i still manage to find the perfect seat every time I visit with friends. The kicker is the kitchen is open pretty late and they serve one of the best double cheeseburgers in Melbourne and believe it or not, the mushroom burger is possibly even better.
K. K. B.
Went to this place and it was nicely located in the centre of the city beside the flinders train station. We can experience a nice view from there. I went for beer but they have good cocktail list in the menu. Must try this one.
A. J. (.
Great place for a drink on the river on a hot day. The PIMS carafe was great for 2 of us.
Took a while to get served but. They need a few more people on bar on hot days!
P. P.
Beautiful view, good beers and music!
S. M.
Great place to have a drink or coffee. Beautiful river views.
M. N. (.
If it's lunch or just after-work drinks the arbory is great on a warm day or night, great beers on tap and food is great , try the hot bbq sauce on anything it's a winner ! It does great busy with lots of through walking traffic's so book or come early.
T. g.
Great location by the Yarra River. Great for a meal or drink with plenty of the menu. Can get pretty busy after work so head in early if you can.
S. G.
My go to summer venue!! Good music, vibes, food and selection of drinks. Offers some great views of the Yarra River. Good looking Crowd too, 25-35s.
T. K.
Great location, and ok food - but first impression lost them a star.. When enquiring after a Gluten Free beer I was told matter of factly that “pretty much all beers are gluten free” (they aren’t) and when I countered as such, I was pressed with “who told you most beers aren’t gluten free?”
I’ve been having a great time in Melbourne and have found it to be perhaps the worlds most GF friendly place, but this guy seems to have it backward.
K. R.
Love the location, though service is always iffy. They're sometimes slow, but more than that, they don't interact with customers. In other words, they serve and keep a distance so there is no energy, no rapport and that's while they connect quite deeply with their colleagues as they get your drinks. So it feels like you're a bit of an imposition in their fun.
M. S. (.
I'm in love with this place. A fun place to visit at night on a winter's day. Gas heaters, music quiet enough to hold a conversation, and some seriously different alcohol selections (e.g. spiced warm apple cider). I will definitely visit again soon.
M. T.
Consistently excellent for food menu, drink options, atmosphere. I bring all my tourist friends here and they are never disappointed either.
A. J.
Great place. There was bit of hassle in booking seat for 10. They said it’s all online and I tried booking from chrome just to realise it won’t work and booked from internet explorer. Owners of this place , if you reading this, place ask your website provider to fix that issue.
Regarding food, drinks and staff , it’s all stars :) Well done . I will come back again and again. Love this place.
S. W.
Nice place, but too crowded any time near the end of the day. Copes well with high traffic at the bar, but the shape of the place can make getting there or finding somewhere to stand (you won't get a seat) difficult. Food is okay, drinks are okay, go there to be close to the river and surrounded by trees.
T. Y.
Why is there a bar beside the commuter rail station? Why are the children going home waiting for a train watching people having a few too many drinks? Why is there a bar beside a river? I love Australia.
It was a good place for drinks. I had a pretty swell time.
C. S.
Some great food (burgers) and a good array of drinks. Due to its location, it gets very busy after work especially on Friday. Also very busy on Saturday evenings. If you can, go later at around 10pm and the crowd goes down.
A. P.
Unfortunately, every time I've come here it's been impossible to get somewhere to sit. The music isn't bad but can be too loud depending on where you are, the atmosphere is otherwise great. Super popular and always crowded. Good view of the river too.
F. B.
Very interesting concept that attracts many international visitor. Great location to see Melbourne from, and to meet locals as well.
S. S.
Absolutely beautiful setting overlooking Southbank and the Yarra, with a great choice of beverages and very friendly staff to boot. Hard to give any bar in Melbourne 5 stars though because, like most places, drink prices are very high.
P. K.
There are a variety of local and foreign craft beers on offer at Arbory. Nothing too fancy or outrageous, but a solid selection of crowd pleasing favourites from Brooklyn Brewery, Mountain Goat, Stone & Wood and Mornington Brewery to name just a few. A decent selection of wines, spirits and cocktails are also on offer, including a white and a red wine on tap from DOC wines.
As for the food, it is high quality and accessible.
F. V.
What a joint. Whoever thought to put a bar in the garden of the train station, massive ups. The bar staff were attentive, knowledgeable and really really friendly. Bartenders everywhere could learn a thing or two from this team. And the oyster trolley...🤯
A. S.
Situated in between the Yarra and Flinders Street Station, this long bar with two ends is phenomenal. I went with my husband, and it was fabulous to sit with a drink and watch the world of Melbourne go by.
I cannot wait to come back and stay longer next time, and perhaps sample some of the delicious looking food that was coming out from the kitchen!
T. K.
Location and atmosphere is amazing, staff are outstanding but the food is ok.
S. E.
This is a great place for casual drink and foods.
They have great option of breakfast lunch and dinner as well. Great food and great ranges of drink with nice yara river and southbank view. Outdoor has shed as well so you wont have much problem on sunny days as well. Enjoy your time here. Cheers.....
R. G.
Perfect place to drink, take a rest and have snacks if the weather is good
B. C.
Great location. Pricey menu but that's about the same for most city bars. The food is delicious and the staff lovely. Probably wouldn't like to be on a cooler night, but it was still good to start a summer night here.
K. K.
Iconic Melbourne bar right along the river. Great drinks but does get very busy. Very convenient as it is right outside Flinder's St Station.
S. W.
Very nice view and ambiance but didn't like the food variety
J. S.
Seats are hard to come by at peak times but keeping an open eye, there's always a group leaving.
Great food
Prices for cocktails is a little steep.
The view makes up for it though
S. K.
The spot for after work drinks, pre event drinks. I wouldn't send my whole night there but it's definitely a good starting spot. It has a real nice feel to it and never had a bad experience
A. B.
Great views and great atmosphere
E. M.
Great people watching place. Quality drinks, good service and the food is great too.
R. O.
A good range of food and drinks though not cheap. River facing fixed stools quite uncomfortable. Still, a good spot for a warm sunny afternoon.
S. S.
Excellent location overlooking the river. But the beers are way too expensive. (The schooners are more expensive than most local pubs sell pints for).
P. N.
I have been to this place on Tuesday evening, the foods and drinks were good and staffs was nice. Even through it was a freezing night but they got plenty of heaters to warm up, will definitely come back!
A. M.
Such a cool spot, visited both at night and midday. The food was yum, came fast and the staff are lovely. Reasonably priced given location.
T. D.
Really over crowded seems to be no management in terms of number of people being allowed in. Music is too loud it's a bar not a night club! Would be nice to be able to have a conversation without shouting
G. S. -. L. W.
Beautiful place and great view. Perfect to enjoy a meal in front of the Yarra river. Try the hamburgers, as they are one of the best in Melbourne. I enjoyed so much my lunch there.
K. C.
It fills it's purpose well, an easy default place by the river to get a drink and maybe a bite to eat. The float during the summer period is always a nice addition.
k. j.
Ideally located within the banks of the yarra river. Great food and place to chill with groups or even on a cheeky date.
The crown entertainment center is within walking distance. Very crowded on Fridays and Saturdays.
R. M.
Good selection of drinks and a great place to sit.
The only complaint would be that the adjoining railway kicks up a lot of dust, so if you have any sort of breathing or respiratory issues, then you may like to think twice about going here.
E. L.
Coming here for lunch was a great idea. It's quiet, with beautiful views on the river. The food is good (although it took me a while to find the menu).
P. S.
This is a nice place on the river with good views. It has to be the longest bar area I've ever been to. Good atmosphere but a rubbish dj that can't mix anything. Good after work vibe.
p. m.
Good environment, good views, no loud music. But the place close at 1am.
J. G.
Awesome inner city bar wedged jn the space between Flinders Street Station and the Yarra river. Picturesque, great views and vibe. Its outdoors but there are plenty of heaters and large covered areas for winter months.
Food is pretty good and there is a good selection of beers. The staff can be a little hit and miss in terms of skill and attentiveness but otherwise the place is lovely. Nice rustic feel, verry popular with locals and visitors alike.
If it's too busy here there is always the Riverside bars on the other side of princess bridge or you could always go and have a drink at Chloe's bar at the Princess Bridge Hotel (Young & Jacksons) on Flinders Street or Beer DeLuxe up the rear of gederation Square.
