A hidden gem in the CBD! Absolutely delicious cocktails and good food! The dining hall is outside but feels so cosy and warm, even on a cold winters night. I really appreciated a staff member checking in with us after we had ordered what seemed like too much food for 4 people (apparently noticed by the chef) and wanted us to be sure of our hunger before they started cooking it. This honesty and care is really refreshing as I have been to plenty of other places that don't inform you of their large servings or concerns of food wastage. I would love to come back soon!

Epic venue - literally third home. Beautiful team, fantastic menu (Love the leather) and the food is to die for. Great selection of tap beer, followed up with a humongous cocktail range that just adds to the atmospherics - creating this memorising experience - truly more than customer service. Fantastic food In a little hideaway. We have just a dinner here after work on a Wednesday night (Steak night) and it was fantastic. The crew here give great service and are quite friendly and like chatting with old friends. We ordered the 17$ 250G Rump Special and my partner ordered the Chicken Burger. They were FANTASTIC! The Chicken burger was a southern fried chicken piece which was as tender as you could ever make chicken. It's been ages since I've ever tasted a piece of chicken this tender and delish. With a kick of jalapeno in the sauce and the skin of the chicken and the freshest bun with cheese and lettuce.YUMMMMO! The steak was an average size Rump and though it was a 17$ pub special, it was more like a 25$ quality. So not high quality but certainly not like a lot of steak special where its cooked well but the quality is tough. This was easy to cut and chew and full of flavour in a medium rare level. Old pub feel with some.blues playing in the background but classy decor without the price tag. Nice and cozy for a stop.off on the way home rom work, you gotta give this place a go for sure.

A nice little pub & dinner. With 3 separate seating zones, with different atmospheres, definitely an interesting addition to their reasonably priced selection food & beers on tap. With A$15 steaks on Wednesdays, and Chicken Parma for A$10 on Mondays, cooked beautifully, you can't quite go wrong. Can't quite remember all the specials they have daily, but definitely an interesting selection.

Preety good selection of drinks, revolving choice on taps that are priced accordingly. Near to RMIT, offices and the metro tunnel construction so expect a varied range of characters. Snacks and daily special also available, and are usually great choices. Staff can be upbeat and helpful but not always. Was served by a blonde who just couldn't seem to fathom how to take the order then ended up overcharging me double and forgetting my drinks. Luckily there was an old chap behind the bar to help her out and minimal disappointment on my end.

We ate here twice during our stay in Melbourne and can recommend it for great selection and very friendly staff. Our group of 4 has very different requirements: gluten free, vegetarian, and not too adventurous. Captain Melville filled the bill as well as a good beer and wine selection. Prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere in the back room is very relaxing, and the wait staff most attentive and helpful. Sorry we missed the steak night special!

Great happy hour prices! Also the staff were very happy to help us out. The venue itself is a beauty, large, heritage looking front and nice back/ outside area. Amazing burgers at a decent price. The meat was well cooked and very tasty, and the size of the burgers are big enough to fulfill yourself. They also come with side chips or french fries. Definitely a place not to be missed in Melbourne if you fancy a burger!

After a rather inauspicious start to our visit (much attitude from a staff member who seemed to think we were there to do something sneaky... No, we were just lost on our first time in the place)... we took a seat in the front bar area. It was really quiet for a Sunday afternoon - and the bar was kinda cold, temperature wise. We ordered wine off the non-existent wine list, and then food. Bar staff member was very friendly. Wine was nice, food was nice without being special. Overall, a somewhat 'meh' experience, tho I imagine it's a different story at a busier time.

On and off patron for many years, at this point, more on than off ! Great staff, fast service and the food is delicious. A little pricier than most pubs but not a problem as it is all worth it. You can soak up your alcohol with 'pub grub' or have a healthier quinoa or dahl option. Indoor and outdoor options, great selection of rotating beers on tap and a great crew! Really great culture , as an hospitality person myself- it is awesome to see staff enjoying their work. Thanks guys!

Good pub at the northern end of the city. Had a good selection of craft-ish beers on tap as well as a reasonable wine selection. They also had fox footy on the TV which was great. Unfortunately wasn't able to try any food while we were there.

Oldest continuous use pub in Victoria. Excellent meals too. At one time had over a dozen stables in the back for horses and was the last stop for a lot of people returning from the goldfields in the 1880s. The staff at this place are excellent too. We had a problem with our order that they fixed asap and gave a free drink or discount on the meal. real good service.

There are a few things that I liked about Captain Melville.First thing is that they have a large space and big tables for big groups. I have been here for a couple of work lunches and with more than 20 colleagues. The second thing that I like about this place is they do individual billing at the time of ordering avoiding the hassle of settling the bill at the end. They do have good cross section of food and beer to go with the logistical convenience it offers.

Pleasant venue, friendly staff and a very good price on a local IPA during today's visit. Excellent place for a quiet session on a Saturday afternoon. That said, this place is always rocking on Friday after work (you may or may not dig that). Will try to visit at a different time of day and see if they deserve a fifth star.

This place has great food, and the trivia on Tuesdays is fantastic, the host makes it a fun night. The let down of this place is the service and not being able to order and pay. Sitting in the restaurant we were told we could only order food, you have to walk out to the front bar and wait to be served to get a drink. The staff at the front bar told us all that we couldn't pay for our food, only our drinks, that we had to go back to our table to do that despite our table waiter telling us otherwise. So we were in limbo not being able to order or pay. Each of us got the same rude treatment from the bar staff when all we wanted to do was order and pay for dinner and drinks. We just wanted a good night out and having to constantly leave our table to wait in line outside the restaurant to bring back drinks to our table and having to pay for everything separately means it's not a great dining experience if you're looking for a place to sit down and relax. It defeats the purpose of table service. It's a shame, we won't be back unless they communicate with the restaurant staff and make it easier to order and pay without the attitude. It put a damper on an otherwise fun night out.

Amazing bar food and the most satisfying selection of beers on tap. It's gets pretty crowded at times but love coming there off peak times because it's fun to chat with the staff and they give great advice on the beers.

Big fan of this place!... Well, I at least really enjoyed their trivia night!! The host was super entertaining but the questions were better suited to a 'mature-aged audience'. Regardless, a really fun night out with colleagues. In terms of food, I've only ever ordered the vegetarian dahl which is SUPER DELISH! No complaints from me! It's not how most places do it (just spiced lentils with rice-- OH NO!)-- They have all these yummy pickles in little bowls, a good serving of roti and of course the dahl. It's SO nice but really filling! I've only been here for work functions, but it's good to know that they do a fab job catering for the masses! Would recommend to anyone wanting a chill place for a catch up that's not too busy and consistently does a good meal!

We booked a table for 5 on a Thursday night. We arrived dutifully on time and were promptly seated. We had already perused the menu online and so knew what it was we were going to eat. I had the beer battered fish and chips. The batter was light and crispy and the fish cooked perfectly. The chips were a tad cold, but I love chips so am prepared to let that slide. My wife had the pasta dish, the other dished all looked delicious and the rest of the group enjoyed our meals. One small criticism, the waitress was very much under the pump and did a great job, but she obviously needed assistance.

Great little pub next door to our apartments. It's craft beer only here folks, so don't go looking for a Carlton Draught here. I fell in love with the dark ale, and I'm not usually into this kind of thing. We went here firstly out of convenience, and there aren't many pubs in the Melbourne CBD. This is a very well established venue. Centrally located in Franklin street, this is one of Melbourne's OLDEST pubs. It is however oozing with a young, vibrant, hip Melbourne vibe. Food is delicious, lots of space with a front porch, huge outdoor dining area, massive front bar and upstairs event area. The staff are AMAZING, good is prime.

Large pub with lots of seating options, nestled between (shielded from) the chaos of Swanston and Elizabeth Sts. A uni institution with free wifi, cold beer and a small but well chosen menu. Part greasy burger, part quinoa delight, with crowd pleasing beer sides (aka finger food). Bar staff were really friendly and down to earth. There’s a front porch for people watching.

It's a decent pub in the city. Perhaps the only one close enough to RMIT. However, a bit on the expensive side of things for students. Their daily specials are perhaps something that is popular with students. There are some inexplicable quirks, such as you can't order food at the bar and have it delivered in the beer garden, even though the kitchen is closer! If you want to eat at the beer garden, you have to order there.

Captain Melville is a chilled-out restaurant which does great food and serves a good variety of wine - which is always my highest priority! Captain Melville is a regular meeting place for my mates and I after work, and their $15 steak nights on Wednesdays are a thing of beauty. I encourage you to try it out if you're looking for a relaxed vibe for your next dinner with friends.

In our quest to find Melbourne's best parma, we visited Captain Melville which had a relatively high rating on ParmaDaze. It was a Wednesday night, so things were a little quiet but staff were friendly and accommodating. The parma was quite good with the highlight being the really fresh sauce that seemed to be made from scratch. We also tried the Asian inspired wings which was highly rated among the group. While there are daily specials, I thought some items on the menu was a little expensive.

Great pub, friendly staff, reasonable prices, always a good atmosphere. Our 'go to' for after work drinks. Highly recommend.

CM is housed in the oldest hotel in Melbourne. Circa 1856, Mac's building. Awesome bar to chill in or out. You have to walk up 2 flights of stairs but its definitely worth the punt. Has a 'ship' feel to it. Going back for sure.
