This place is a delight. Stylish indoor and out...lovely staff...good, very reasonably priced menu...lots of other goodies to buy. It's a great example of a historic country pub that has put some real care and thought into its offering... without becoming some over-gentrified 'country style' destination.

Elephant Bridge Hotel
Although, Elephant Bridge Hotel could be considered a country pub, the quality of its refurbishment means it could comfortably fit in a classification of a more prestigious establishment. The ‘presence’ and professionalism of the pleasant Bar Tender, facilitates this image. Yet, this is still a hotel where the local farmer can call in and have a beer with his mates after a hard day’s work. Families of all ages, couples, a girl’s night out to catch up with friends, can be catered for with a well-cooked meal. There are a variety of separate seating areas to enable people to find a suitable place. The team of staff are a combination that suits people of all ages, and all works of life. Young energetic male staff appear dedicated to offering good service, under the direction of a competent lady. The mushroom soup was a credit to the kitchen staff. It was packed full of mushroom in a tasty thick saucy broth. My Scotch fillet steak was cooked exactly to my liking – rare, and served with chips, salad and my choice of Diane Sauce. The chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, chips and salad was also to my companions liking.
Much of the seating is outside so dress accordingly. Umbrellas and trees offer shaded areas.

Since my recent evening meal at Elephant Bridge Hotel, I have been craving another helping of the mushroom and white wine soup which is an absolute credit to the kitchen staff – Jed and Julie. On Friday I was lucky enough to return for lunch, and by chance experience the mushroom soup again. It was packed full of mushrooms in a tasty thick saucy broth that was incredibly delicious. On the first occasion we shared a bowl totally underestimating the pleasure it was going to bring. On this occasion as soon as we heard the words mushroom there was a solid agreement that were each having our own bowl, along with the warm crusty, butter-soaked bread. It totally lived up to revised expectations. The chicken schnitzel, with gravy, salad and dainty chips, that followed, was nicely presented and very much to my companion’s liking. I had a creamy bacon and chicken pasta that was immaculately presented with many uniform neat pieces of chicken cubed small so the flavour of the sauce permeated each one, making it an extremely tasty dish. The large glass of Lemon, Lime, and Bitters was perfectly balanced. 24/4/2022
Don’t overlook the soup. Although it is there in plain sight, it is like the hidden gem of the menu. It is easy to get so excited about the other elements of the menu, that you don’t stop to consider the value of adding the ‘soup of the day’ to your order. Kitchen staff Jed and Julie must be connoisseurs of soup recipes. They have taught me to crave a bowl of their delicious soup regardless of what variety it may be. Each variety has an additional ingredient that sets it apart from anything you are likely to make at home. Customer service continues to excel.
After just a couple of visits to the Elephant Bridge Hotel you get a sense of the warm welcome of returning ‘home’. All the staff are excellent. Even when dealing with a phone inquiry, Assistant manager Brodie exudes a pleasant helpfulness with the perfect degree of warmth, and in person it is obvious that this is genuine. He will be a great asset to the obviously very skilled/capable venue manager Jordon Waters

What a beautiful place! This is the first time coming this way, and this is a great place for a quick coffee or a visit to the pub. Read up about the history of the pub and take a stroll around.

My second visit to this beautiful Darlington B&B. Karin continues to provide a flawless experience through her cooking and hospitality all in the setting of the stylishly restored iconic Australian pub. The beds are as comfortable as a 5 start hotel and each room in filled historic charm. There is no dinner menu but if you ask at the time of booking you may be able to have Karin cook for you, a meal that is well worth asking for. She will discuss price at the time.

OMG! I arrived not expecting all that much but wow! This place was amazing. The place is perfect, the host Karen is a star, her food is 10/10 and the location is in the middle of nowhere and also in the middle of everything at the same time! We are so lucky we found this gem! The history of this hotel is also worth a read, 180 years old! Sitting with Karen and talking to her about the area was an experience of its own. Thank you so much Karen for making this a wonderful holiday! We’ll be back.

A wonderful secret treasure of a get away ..everything about our few days with the wonderful owner was calm, peaceful and we were only ever given first class service. From the fresh food to the clean and magnificent building it's self..steeped in history and with local fun things to do within a short drive. I would recommend this for people who like to be properly taken care of...and treated like royalty ...

Historic Charm and personalised service
Elephant Bridge Hotel and it’s owner Karen were an absolute delight. Karen’s warmth and hospitality was amazing. Delicious and hearty country fare and elegant decor and surroundings.Karen was very knowledgeable about the history of the charming 180 year lovingly restored bluestone and it’s previous occupants. She kindly took us on a tour of the local area which includes volcanic plains, beautiful lakes , craters and historic gardens which are the area’s best kept secrets. Although it was just one night , we felt that we have known Karen for long time. A wonderful experience. Thank you Karen🙏

Just spent two nights here - the most charming, comfy and delightful place I think I've ever stayed! Our inn-keeper was a genuine host who clearly cared about her guests, from organising delicious homemade dinners for our group, to providing incredibly comfy bathrobes, to some great conversations over dinner. The Lindt chocolate next to the bed was also a lovely touch. Looking forward to heading back next time I'm in Western Vic.

Ever since I saw how lovingly the Elephant Bridge Hotel, at Darlington, Victoria, had been restored, a stay there hit my “must do’ list and the excitement and commitment festered every time I drove past and surveyed this historic building. On Sunday this longing was satisfied and it fulfilled my expectations ten-fold and created a new addition to ’my must do again’ list. The entire experience was a delight from the moment I made contact with owner Karin, and warm friendly text were exchanged. Karin had been a stranger when she previously showed us her three accommodation bedrooms, whilst she was awaiting the arrival of the fabulous addition of vintage style window shutters for the bedroom windows. A text to Karin on the day confirming our estimated time of arrival ensured our arrival was also met with excited anticipation. The building exudes a sense of history from the worn front step where many a weary traveller has trod in the past, to the portions of exposed bluestone walls that give a sense of the incredible skill that the builders of the past had. The minor variation in the windows with their deep-set wooden ledges, the tongue and groove lining boards on the ceiling, all provide an insight into the building styles and materials of the past. The light switches and power outlets fascinated me because they had been chosen with such perfection and to lie in bed and pull a cord hanging from the ceiling to turn on and off the overhead light that was suspended on a long pendant delighted me with a flood of memories from sixty years ago at my grandmother’s house. The shared bathroom and additional toilet have been tiled to perfection and whilst housing some modern features the overall effect is totally in keeping with past era. The open fire in the shared sitting room was an inviting place to have tea or fresh coffee or an alcoholic drink if you prefer. For those that don’t want to mingle there is another loungeroom upstairs. Karen offers evening meals for guests and I strongly suggest you take advantage of this. Karin is a very interesting sociable person who makes a for a very pleasant companion throughout the evening.
I suspect my overwhelming sense of “this is very nice” that stayed with me throughout the entire experience meant that I overlooked many other quirky aspects that I would have also found very interesting – there is just so much evidence of history to take in in just one visit.
On the practical side, the beds are very comfortable, towels super thick, as are the bath robes, and a little lift carried my case from the ground floor to the first floor, breakfast is a lovely muesli that is packed full of delicious nuts, followed by a very generous serving of a variety of very appealing toasted breads and fruit loaf accompanied by butter, rhubarb and strawberry jam, peanut butter, vegemite.
