I would like to convey my most sincere thanks to John Pearce Notary Public for his outstanding service and efforts to resolve a difficult case I was having with an overseas based lawyer in regards to a very important document for an overseas based property. He really went beyond the call of duty to assist in my case and because of this the issue has been completely resolved. I can vouch that a Notary Public is Not just someone who chops and signs documents, just like an Immigration & Customs officer is not just someone who chops and signs passports. 4 Oct 2020 was my second time getting my documents (General Power of Attorney, Relinquishment Deeds and Special Deeds) notarised from John Pearce. Also, availing the services to get my notarized documents apostilled by DFAT. Finding Notary in Melbourne is difficult. Nevertheless, community feedback with 5 stars for John Pearce assisted me in choosing their services in Dec 2019. I personally like John, he is a gentleman and a professional. His assistant Dinesh was prompt, and Hanna on the customer service was amicable. The prices for the services he provides (punctuality, reliability and attention to the detail in my eyes is less than one will pay elsewhere. One thing that touched me was their willingness to assist me during COVID situation. Both John and his assistant made it effortless and hassle-free. I wish them nothing but the best.

Booked an appointment online for the next day, I had a number of documents to get done and unlike some other Notary Publics, John charges by time not per document so the cost was extremely reasonable. Very happy with the price, and the fast, friendly and efficient service. I had initially looked for a notary public close to where I live but it would've been cheaper to fly to NZ and sign the docs with my lawyer there then use a local Notary Public, so I was very happy and relieved when I found John Pearce, even with paying for parking in the city it was still an excellent price for the service (and there's a parking building right there so it was no hassle). In general, he charges by time not by document, which makes it more cost effective, particularly if you have a contract or something that requires multiple signatures and multiple pages. That can easily run to hundreds elsewhere, but if you can do it in a 10 minute slot, it is cheaper with John. I called Mr.Pearce to let him know I had arrived, and he was a real gentleman coming all the way down to let me in the building and take me up to his office. He was very knowledgeable about the overseas POA documents and explained things very clearly. I didn't feel rushed and he completed my POA within 15 minutes. I found his fees to be very reasonable - you can see them even on his website which helps gives you a rough idea. I had a document which needed to be witnessed before I sent it overseas. I went to a Justice of the Peace who witnessed my signature and then sent it off. Weeks later my overseas bank told me it I should have signed in front of a Notary Public, not a Justice of the Peace! I did a Google on Notaries and came up with John Pearce. John was very helpful and explained that he was a Solicitor who is also a Notary Public. It turns out that in Melbourne some Solicitors are also a Notary Public and there is a cost for their services. But they have international standing, whereas a JP does not. I wish I had not wasted my time with the JP – he didn’t charge anything, but it was a waste of time going to him. Based on some advice I had received from overseas I went to the Chinese Consulate yesterday morning to have my marriage certificate 'certified'... just to find out (after having waited in the queue for > 1 hour) that the whole process actually consisted of three steps [(1) Notary Public, (2) DFAT authentication, (3) Consulate General authentication]. Afterwards I went to 2 Notaries @ Collins Street in the area where the DFAT is (female officer at DFAT was super unfriendly) and I was advised at the first Notary office that unfortunately no one was available for the next couple of days and at the second one I was told that I would need to come back on the next day to pick up the notarized document. Knowing that the DFAT process takes up to a couple of hours (as I was told by the lady at DFAT) and the fact that the Chinese Consulate is only open for public Mo-Fri from 9 to 12 (standard processing time for the authentication 4 days) I decided to try and find a Notary Public closer to where I live (Eastern suburb). After I had waisted 1/2 day without having achieved anything (except a parking fine at the amount of 148 AUD in Collins St) I went back to work where someone recommended me to contact John Pearce's office ... one minute later I had an appointment at John's office in Box Hill at 8:45pm ... I went there straight from work ... and WOW ... what a difference was this to what I had experienced all morning: super friendly welcome, no one there who was trying to overcomplicate things, questions were asked and advise was given precisely & straight to the point, all provided documents were professionally checked ... and the whole process did not take longer than 10 minutes.
