Love the interior but also love sitting in the laneway. Came in for drinks and snacks - loved the oyster with hot sauce, eclair, but especially the pig’s head doughnut. Great service and will def be back to try their mains.

Kirk's has been here for such a long time it has probably become a Melbourne icon. A favourite of many business people in the area. A wonderful European atmosphere. A simple delicate menu that is a delight to sample through. The staff are well trained and make sure you feel welcome. An extensive wine list ensures that your every need is catered for. You cannot visit Melbourne without giving this wonderful restaurant a visit.

Came here a few nights ago with my partner after watching a comedy show in the CBD, was such a lovely date night. The gnocchi was amazing and light. Also shared the cheese platter which came with a solid amount of quince (always appreciated hehe). The little laneway had such a lovely vibe to it as well, with fairy lights and a busker, would definitely come back!

Soon after Kirk's opened and I became a regular I started using the hashtag #goodthingshappenatkirks whenever I visited and posted on social media because this was always my experience. Good times, good people, good food and good booze. It's the local's hangout on Hardware Lane, a part of the city that attracts corporate lunchers and out of towners, neither party that typically prioritises substance over style. Kirk's offers both as one of Con Christopoulos's stable of venues that have come to define understated Melbourne style and helped maintain its reputation as the most European of all Australian cities.

Great bar, great location but the service is poor. It takes nothing to smile and to be a little attentive yet we had to ask for menus and then ask to order. Love the laneway bar atmosphere and people watching oh and the Aperol Spritz. Worth a visit and hope they pay attention to the numerous reviews on their service levels.

Cosy wine bar with a European vibe (wood paneling, al fresco seating). Don’t be fooled by the name, they serve beer here too. Interesting range of tap beer from Hargreaves Hill and others. Enjoyed a malty lager and a gose which spent time in 4 Pillars gin barrels). Pints were $15-18 (half that for a pot). Staff were friendly and more than happy to suggest beers and offer samples. They have a small range of foods such as oysters, chips, and other share plates.

Beautiful wine bar on the corner of a nice lane with good atmosphere. Friendly staff that helped us choose a lovely bottle of wine. Small food menu but the pasta dish we ordered was amazing! While we were sitting there a homeless man came up and asked us for any spare change and we ended up having a good chat with him, he seemed a very genuine man that was down on luck. He told us that every night he calls into this restaurant and they give him a free coffee and a small bit of food for his troubles. Thought this was a heartwarming act of kindness and humanity that deserves praise. In short; great food, lovely wine, warm atmosphere and amazing staff.

Fun place to get a glass of wine and some small bites. The staff was great trying to accommodate so many people who were there after work on Friday. We enjoyed the good selections of wine and thought the salumi plate had selections of meats that were a cut above what you normally find. Great place for people watching or catching up with friends.

Really nice wine bar but the one older waiter, maybe the owner is always rude and unfriendly. Sometimes people like him forget what hospitality is about and how it should be lived. We came for a glass of wine at around 10:45 pm. After sitting there for 20 min and enjoying our wine and chatting, we just got the check without asking for it or finishing our drinks. 5 min later he is comes back with the eftpos machine and wants us to pay. He didn’t ask us for any last drinks or let’s us know that the bar is about to close. His way of customer service wasn’t what I expect from a place like kirks wine bar. Friendlier staff at the beer bar next door!

Every single element in the food served here is elevated to its best form. A seemingly simple toast with avo and mushrooms turned out to be one of the best brekkies I've had in a long time, their salmon gravlax is just phenomenal, and even the scrambled eggs are cooked to perfection every single time. The passion behind the food is palpable, and the service is absolutely outstanding. Knowledgeable, perfectly calibrated for every situation, and very kind. I don't have enough words to describe how happy I am we tried this place. 10/10 will be a regular brunch place.

Nice beer and wine selection. We had one staff member who was lovely, one who was alright and a third who was indifferent to my girlfriend and myself but he was downright rude to another couple. 15% surcharge on a Sunday without notice. (on the reciept when paying) that's a bit of a joke!

Whilst I quite enjoy this place in the evenings, it has a wonderful menu that is reasonably priced, it's overall rating has to be brought down by the poor quality of its breakfast. The coffee was burnt and the menu very expensive. I ended up just having crumpets for $8 (that I can get at Journal Cafe for $6). There were quite a few regulars, so maybe I'm missing something, but I wouldn't come here except for dinner

We've been visiting since it opened, and Kirk's would once have pulled an easy five stars, but seems to be slipping with age. It's still a brilliantly-located venue, great for people watching or just having a quiet drink among friends. The menu's gone downhill, now that they've opened the French Saloon restaurant upstairs. And regrettably the staff, who were once universally charming and helpful, seem to have to hurry you along a bit. In fact, there seems to be a consistent strange sort of vibe amongst all the European Group operations. Hard to put a finger on it. But I get the sense they get a lot of repeat business from regulars, and don't necessarily have much time for people they may only see twice a year. Kirk's could easily bob up (or down) a star depending on when you arrive and what you're after.

Nice coffee but, as plenty of others have mentioned, the waitstaff are quite rude and unaccommodating. A group of us stopped here for coffees and breakfast after doing Run Melbourne. We asked to pay for our orders separately - not split bills - but the waitress curtly said that due to the 15% Sunday surcharge (which was never mentioned when we ordered), if everyone paid the price on the receipt, there wouldn't be enough money. I said that was easily resolved by each person adding 15% to their purchase, but I don't think the woman was capable of basic maths. She then said they only accept a maximum of 3 payment cards per table, so everyone would have to go the ATM nearby.

Easy relaxed wine bar with succinct wine list. Food looked great, tapas style, perfect to tie over after work. Great while waiting for a table at restaurant near by or few drinks after dinner.

The wine and menu selection is amazing and well worth further exploration. The service was attentive and helpful. Its pricey, but the quality is there. We visited in the late afternoon for pre-dinner drinks, so it was fairly busy. Inside was fairly noisy so we sat outside. The heaters made it cosy. The only bad thing about this experience was a chain-smoking woman polluting the vicinity at the table next to ours. Kind of difficult to enjoy the top shelf red wine bouquet in your balloon glass when someone's slamming cigarettes next to you.

Went there for a coffee and breakfast (it was morning) . I asked if they have have large sized latte (IE a mug or large cup size). Answer from waitress was just "no". I asked if they could make one for me. Answer was just a blunt and firm "no". Coffee taste was reasonably good but not outstanding in my opinion. Food we had was good enough. Decor was relaxed and simple but tasteful in my opinion. Only 3 stars from me (and I'm being generous) for limited choice of coffee sizes (IE only one) and frosty unhelpful tone from waitress on morning of 5/3/17.
