A great local pub to have a drink with friends or a nice meal from their extensive menu. A versatile list of specials is always up for consideration. The staff are friendly ,efficient and nothing is too much trouble. There is a bonus marquee area on the south side of the hotel which is terrific area to enjoy the fresh air and perfect on a warm Melbourne evening🙏🏻

Food is better than great. 17 piece band on the night we were there. Really good at every level. One area for improvement would be a couple of local craft beers on tap but they know their market.. great wine list too. Do yourself a favour.

Recommend for a dinner date or an arvo with your mates. Great pub with an old school feel. Meals are always on point as is the beers on tap. Lots of tv’s with a range of sport and horse racing on it just has a fun vibe.

Family friendly and safe environment for women. Named after and aligned with the ANZAC legend and their logo of a half-rising sun above an Aussie digger's slouch hat. (See photo giving some history of the business.) My local pub, providing modernised classic pub fare turned gourmet with generous servings. Great atmosphere when busy, particularly Friday lunchtime. Lots of TVs to keep you connected to various sports, no sound, yay! Live music throughout the week. The menu specializes in various steaks, but does have gluten free and other vegetarian dishes, changed to reflect the seasons. A specials menu is available. The Friday I was there, I chose the Ricotta sage gnudi with garlic, spinach, mushrooms, cauliflower and gran padano. A light vegetarian dish most suitable for a hot day. GNUDI (Wikipedia definition): is an English-adopted Tuscan word for the Italian term "nudi" (naked), the idea being that these pillowy square balls of ricotta and spinach, sometimes without spinach, in this case the added sage, are "nude ravioli" consisting of just the tasty filling without the pasta shell. (A bit like a tiny semolina pastry, quite light to eat.) Dessert that spoke to me was the Vanilla bean crème brûlée with biscotti. Along with a pot of crisp apple cider to keep me cool, it was a nice lunch. Being surrounded by goodlooking men didn't hurt either! Great service by the girls. The day after, which was a lot cooler, I attended for the evening mealtime. The Chicken Kiev with mashed potato and broccolini was simple yet delicious, but did not have garlic in the herb butter inside. I guess not everyone enjoys garlic, I certainly avoid it when possible, so that's a smart move by the chef. For dessert, you can't beat the Vanilla bean panacotta, lemon curd and meringue, a delightfully light summer dish. Again, all accompanied by a crisp apple cider. I went home satisfied 😁

This place has that classic old school pub feel with a cracking Bistro and if ya love ya meat then it's a great choice. Friendly no nonsense staff, who can have a laugh, was happy to call it my local for a while and still go back there when I'm in the area.

Excellent little pup in South Melbourne. Reasonable large dining area and excellent food! We went last night for a casual early dinner with five people. They had table service and the bar staff were attentive and thoughtful. Food came out in great time and was of high quality. We ordered two steaks, parmagana, vegetarian and tandoori chicken. The veg menu was excellent. Also two large screens to watch sport.

Been here once with my family. Food quality is beyond all pubs I have been. They offer most traditional food such as Parma, pie, steaks but all with touch of sincerity. Sits on a quite corner in the neighborhood, a hidden gem for a causal but great quality meal.

The Guiness pie, chips and salad excellent. Th chips were done very well and crisp and fresh, the pie was filling, in its own bowl on the plate, the other meals were very good also. Menu is varied and good choice. The staff are excellent and helpful, a great pub to visit.

The food is very good, the service is nice (the girls are very professional and friendly) and the atmosphere is cozy. There are amazing jazz musicians in this restaurant that you can enjoy during your dinner. If you want to have a really good meal I recommend to go when the atmosphere is more quiet because the food is better. The scotch fillet is delicious!!! I'm rating 4 stars and not 5 because in the last few weeks they changed the prices on the menu and it is expensive now.

Quietly tucked away in the back streets of South Melbourne lies this gastronomic haven. Best veal schnitzel I've had in a long time. Service was amazing even on a busy Friday lunchtime.

This hotel caters for all ages and has a great vibe, especially if one likes live music. The Big Band on Tuesdays is legendary and the Joe Ruberto Trio with guest vocalists every Thursdays is fabulous. Booking is essential. Sundays live music caters for a younger audience. The food is affordable and consistently good. The staff are also terrific. If you come to Melbourne without visiting the Rising Sun, you'll have missed out on something special. It's the home of the AFL Swans.

I went today for an ostensibly lazy Sunday lunch - then was clapping, singing and thumping the table through some stonking-hot jazz as 'The Society Syncopaters' took the stage. My food was fab; a perfect stack of vego-moussaka (every puy lentil and eggplant layer counting for robust flavour) complemented by a very fresh salad and warm bread with butter. I had plate envy watching the other meals land on my table. Fat chips with fish, veal with brocollini, prawn spring rolls and other good pub nosh dishes were all met with approval. Best part? As the band launched into a full-throttle first set (jazz can rock with six on stage!), the waitresses took multiple orders perfectly and within twenty-five minutes all the food arrived at the same time...A great Sunday lunch set.

Traditional pub with reliable food and both indoor and outdoor seating. Went here on Melbourne Cup day since they have TAB machines in the back bar for punters.
