Great place to meet genuine and creatives souls, always a cool event going on supporting a creative scene in the city. From Monday to Sunday section stays serving the best vibes in the city.

I just went there on a sunday afternoon to have some sour beer on our way back home and ended up getting home around 10 pm because we found ourselves dancing to the great music. Highly recommended. You should have no regrets.

Nice little alleyway bar tucked in Tattersall Lane. Music and crowd were pumping and drink reasonable priced. Seats are a little tricky to get when busy but hang around and you’ll eventually get a pallet to park on. Very hip and trendy vibe but welcoming to all. Tucked away near Chinatown so a feed is just a quick stroll away

One of the djs played a very ethnic mix which I enjoyed greatly. The service is quite nice too. They have a basketball ring and a nice play on lights on the outside wall.

I came across this great bar a couple of years ago and since then every time I visit Melbourne I make sure I pay a visit. The bar is situated in a disused open air car park. The bar itself is a shipping container and all the seats are packing crates. They have put a roof over the top, so you are away from the elements. In winter they have heaters and in summer there are big fans and misters for those really hot days, it makes it a very enjoyable place, with a great vibe, to enjoy a beverage. It has a great range of drinks and a small menu if you fancy a bite to eat. One of the stand outs of this bar is its toilets; they too are situated in a shipping container, but the walls are absolutely covered in images. You could easily get distracted and spend hours in the loo! The staff are fantastic and friendly. It is a must visit bar!

It's a good bar, basically it's one large open area though. The music is loud and it's crowded. It's great for groups but 2-3 people are going to have zero personal space/anywhere to put a drink. It reminds me of high school parties, the ones where the parents were there in the house and all the 'kids' have to stay in the backyard. It was fun, wouldn't stay for long though because it isn't comfortable.

This place is a really relaxed, open air bar. It has good music and a chilled vibe. From the security guards to the bar tenders, everyone that I have encountered each time I have gone have been extremely friendly. The drinks are reasonably priced and they are made very quickly!

Cool "outdoor" bar with covered roof. They only take cash at the bar so keep that in mind. Their cocktails were pretty good, and they had a decent selection of beer. Overall it was a cool place to visit but not sure if it would be somewhere I would sit for an extended period of time, but that might just be a personal preference. I would prefer a comfortable bar with good seating, but as all their seating like bleacher style, wooden blocks seating, I wouldn't want to sit there for a couple of hours. But overall I really liked the vibe and it was definitely worth checking out!

Very cool experience in a gritty open air alleyway bar. Pallets and milk crates for chairs along with permanent fixtures along the walls and plenty of standing area surrounding the DJ made for a great ‘underground’ club environment, and despite it being a Thursday, the place was rocking to deep hip hop. Can only imagine how much it would heave on a Friday or Saturday.

Out of all the hangout places around Melbourne, this one is the most chilled out joint ever and hence a personal favorite. Such an awesome space. Came here in the afternoon for a break while sightseeing around Melbourne. We were surrounded by students, retirees, locals, expats, a rapper from NYC, a DJ who knew her stuff, and a happy dog. Bar staff is friendly enough though a little dry at times. Prices are high for cocktails, although quality is also. Didn't try any food. Amazing street art all around. If I lived in Melbourne I think I'd be here every day.

A venue made out of a shipping container, with an open air courtyard with palettes for seats, this is a down to earth cool place to meet up for a drink in the city. Always busy, and with a good range of drinks and friendly staff, (as well as the best barman in Melbourne who works there-go Jay!) its a fab hangout that I don't go to often enough. One of Melbourne's many little hidden gems, this place has a sense of humour, some good live acts on occasion, and is slap bang next to some of the busiest streets (and Chinatown) in Melbourne. One of the places that makes Melbourne my kind of town.

Coming here since 2006. So many wonderful moments, taking dates here, etc. You guys are great. I'd love to give this five, but seems to have new management, made it louder than it used to be, less relaxing for me. My friend asked the bar lady why it was so unusually loud (almost like a nightclub) to which the feisty sprite replied: 'cos it's a bar'. Should Douglas Adams amend Hitchhiker's '42' to 'cos it's a bar', also, since this fundumental law explains so much, that we cannot otherwise fathom? I do not see how or why you have tried to tinker with perfection? Also why put the DJ in the middle like that? It turns a hangout into a music bar. He was better off in the corner! Also, a few weeks ago, I heard DJ music which was not up to the usual section 8 standard, which appalled me, since you are always so awesome! It was repetitive and boring. You guys used to be non stop funky! THE BEST! Today there was sand on the floor. Huh? Really sorry to be picky, but for the above reasons, you lose one star from an otherwise utterly lawless record of entertainment perfection. Chuck.

You go there because it's a funky open-air bar. The decor sucks because it's packing crates and boxes (which is part of the appeal), it's not comfortable and it's often quite cold in the middle of winter - but no pain no gain! They now do a range of food including a really nice Vietnamese beef noodle soup, and since it's winter they have a fairly decent mulled red wine. Staff are nice and friendly - they don't rush you or treat you like you're wasting their time if you take a minute or ask for a suggestion - and the crowd has a decent vibe - mostly young urban professionals with an alternative streak.

What could be better than sitting down on wooden pelletts with your mates, drinking beer while listening to a live DJ? Well just add melbounr weather to the mix and this is the perfect environment. Umbrellas are situated to block out the cruel sun rays and of course the rain, when that inevitably hits. The staff are friendly, the bouncers treat you like a person and have a laugh with you. This venue is fantastic for your Sunday Sippers (Every day, if you tell yourself it is sunday too).

I do have a special place in my heart for Section 8, but I wonder whether the mass market appeal of hidden laneway bars has begun to destroy the allure. In this day and age getting served a cocktail and automatically receiving a plastic straw is also a bit of an eco-bartending faux pas... Also, the sound system (considering the fact that Sec8 does host some very high quality acts) just doesn't quite cut the mustard; need some more sub energy!
