Comments of The Crafty Squire
S. A.
Nice clean place. Food was good all the times that I went over a few trips. Beer is much more traditional styles rather than all the over the top high octane stuff that is going on in the states lately. It was a refreshing change to how beer used to be and probably should be again.
A. “. L.
Nice Place for lunch or drinks. Visited The Crafty Squire for a lunch with friends and was not disappointed with the food. The servings were large and good value for $20 (during lunch). They have a decent beer selection being a pub and the interior gives off a really good pub atmosphere. On the day we went it was not too busy for lunch so it may be worth it for a quiet ish spot to dine.
P. F.
Great bar for after work drinks with friends, on the street dining option is relaxing with a cool vibe, delicious pub meals
C. T.
Fraser served our group on Saturday night (20/11) and he made us feel so welcome! He was so fast and efficient with our orders and clearing our glasses, and he had a laugh with us! We had such a fun night, thanks Fraser! 🥳
Z. S.
Relaxed atmosphere with a bit of an Irish pub feel. Central location but a bit of a weird layout with three different uneven sections downstairs and another section upstairs. Interior is a little bland and could be jazzed up with some new furniture. A little frustrating you can only buy a pot or pint and not a schooner or jug. Avoid the popcorn chicken as was super oily and not cheap. Listened to some nice live acoustic music and staff were friendly. Cool that it is a verified Untapped venue and they brew on-site with a vast catalogue of tap beer to choose from.
N. H.
Outside seating, great food & drinks. Good range of James Squire beers on tap.
G. H.
Nice venue for a meal or just a quiet drink. The upstairs dining are is spacious, and the food is very tasty. Plenty of James Squire beers on tap, and a few rotating options as well.
Staff were very friendly. Entry via Little Collins.
S.
My sister, MoH and I were staying up the road and came here for dinner, here fresh out of lockdown the night before my hens. We were only going to grab a quick drink but we managed to get a table. Fraser was exceptionally helpful and receptive. He really made our night 😊
D. G.
Great service! We had such a good experience, the app ordering was really good and we loved that our good came out together. The food was really good and we always love James Squire cider. Great for a group catch up, good vibes, and they didn't have the tvs on too loud!
C. H.
Cool place for a beer or two! Great live music. You also get to see the brew right at the store which was pretty cool considering the location is quite central. We got the pale ale and tropical ale from the tap.
J. H.
Great evening w guests to celebrate the end of the year. It’s a busy time of the year and the team at the Crafty Squire were organised and really professional. Thank you!
t. f.
Great service, great food! You won’t regret ordering the Parma/parmi. The staff were great and handled some super drunk/disruptive patrons quite well.
S. J.
Great watering hole to unwind with mates at the end of a tiring day. Good ambiance with live music.
Loved the home brews and cocktails. Definitely going back. Good modern Aussie food as well.
G. S.
Comfortable atmosphere and very friendly staff. Tried the parma and it was good! I will probably not need to have another meal after that today.
S. Y.
Came here for a drink on a Thursday night. Nice vibe, plenty of seating and a great range of local brews, including their own James Squire brands. Had a guitarist playing who was really good.
S. F. L.
If you’re after a causal, chilled out pub in the CBD with a good drinks selection, this is the place. A variety of beers on tap, I tried this cider on tap which was good, a crispy apple flavour, sweet enough. A decent pub food menu, with generous portions. Pictured here is the salmon on Waldorf salad and chicken Parma - which is a very generous size!
S. T. E.
Service, food and drinks are all that of your average local pub... if you live within walking distance of Russell Street, then no issues. If you are traveling all the way into the CBD for the flagship James Squire restaurant, then I would definitely visit at your own risk, extremely average.
J. V.
Not a super busy place at lunch so we easily got a table (there were heaps left) and we got our food quite quickly as well. The portion of kangaroo fillet was good, however, it was a tad overcooked but only slightly. The flavours and the sauce was really good though. The potatoes and veg were cooked really well. Almost a perfect dish. A great selection of beers and friendly staff as well.
M. B.
Great place for corporate lunches etc fits a large number of people. The food is great and staff as well. Worth looking into the lunch specials while you are there too. The restaurant also has a nice ambiance. Would recommend!
N. K.
Nice ambience, with the TV showing the different games happening around. In terms of food, it was amazing and filling. Their bar is filled with options. I tried the apple cider, which was refreshing!
N. G.
Excellent beers and grub. Very generous helpings. We had the parmas, gnocchis and couple more mains between 8 of us...always got quick service with a smile. Highly recommended. Will be back soon.
D. G.
We loved it. Excellent ancient grains salad and calamari. A few good ales on tap.
F. E.
Good selection of beers. Good atmosphere and easy prime location and easy to find. At the time of my dinner on a Tuesday night we also had live music. A few sections and rooms to choose from, pub area, bistro area, upstairs area and a pool table area.
F. Z.
We would give 4,5. Quick service and very nice staff. Tasty food , tried crocodaile and kagaroo🦘 fillet. Not least, good and interesting mini brewery.
J. C.
Food: Didn't try. Just had drinks.
Service: I ordered. They poured.
Ambience: Pub. Few tourists around.
Value: Don't remember.
Was catching up with a mate so it didn't matter. But the whole time I felt we could have been somewhere else. Beer was good though.
E. C.
I had organised my Bachelorette in The Crafty Squire and my experience was really amazing. I enjoyed the night very much. All the drinks are refreshing and looking impressive. We don't have to wait for our table because I pre-booked 2 tables online So I think this saved my time. Fantastic customer service. Definitely, recommend!!!
W. M.
Love this place!
Great beer selection and decent pub food all at reasonable prices. Takeaway beers available and smoking friendly (although it's uncovered so this is somewhat weather dependant).
B. O. (.
Loved it! Food was great, staff were kind, and I had a blast with my mates. Highly recommend!
A. A. (.
Really amazing place on Russell st. Fit for literally any size of group. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Amazing staff and service!
A. D.
Beautiful venue! Jordan and Jaz were absolute legends. Thanks guys!
M. J.
Great bar, nice and friendly staff, plenty of seating options perfect for people watching. Also has a pool table. Definitely recommend visiting and trying a few of the beer options
J. P.
The whole James Squire range, reasonably priced. The pub is split into few small rooms. Music was contemporary and thrilling. No lounge or sofa, only high tables with bar stools.
T. S.
Good vib, tasty beer. Front of house ready to please. Little noisey. But great staff
P. T.
Great place with nice beers to try out
The food portions were quite generous and good quality as well
Plus Not too crowded which l LIKE
J. F.
Didn't even get a chance to take a photo of my food, it was so good I couldn't resist eat it! Ordering with a QR code is really convenient and such a good idea. Would definitely stop here again when I'm hungry food good food. The vegetarian options are beautiful! Very good and caring staff members as I got a glass of water before I even asked for it.
G. N.
Great company. Food fantastic loved the drinks. Great staff super friendly. Great advice.
C. M.
Fun pub! Great beers selection. Unique food choices, which were fun, but the stuff we tried were heavily fried and the meat was a little dry. We'd definitely go back! The menu is pure Australia!!!
R. J.
Certainly one of the most hospitable pubs in Melbourne. Go out of their way to make people feel welcome. Covid savy and heed the rules.
M. K.
This place was fantastic, friendly, polite, food great. The staff certainly looked after us,
p. p.
A very wonderful experience trying all the James squire range. One of Melbourne’s finest place.
j. m.
Open at 7am to watch 6 Nations Rugby, what's not to like about it. Highly recommended
S. S.
Good beers and friendly staff but the food is a coin flip.
We had some good meals earlier in the year but last night we couldn't finish the burger or the chicken parma.
A. M.
Great beers, my golden ale was lovely. The fish n chips I had was a bit average for $25. Serving size ok. Chips were good, but the battered fish was a bit too oily and unfortunately the salad was just a pile of lettuce 🙁
H. F.
Great upmarket pub feel, food was good as well.
C. T.
Good decor, good ambience, friendly staff overall good atmosphere ,, enjoyed 👍will definitely visit again ..three cheers
M. W.
Great beer selection, including a handful brewed onsite - the only microbrewery within Melbourne, no less! Friendly staff and tasty food. Highly recommended for a quick pit stop, or more.
G. M.
Good atmosphere! Friendly people. Standard pours like beer and gin and tonics are safe bets here. The espresso martini is surprisingly weak and is a small serve... the little sibling to espresso martinis pretty much anywhere else in the city at the same price point. So perhaps avoid the cocktails.
C. G.
Function held in the downstairs corner bar. Great access and a good bar well staffed.
Easy to work with, food hot from the kitchen.
R. H.
Great beer selection. Great staff and food. If you're unsure of what to try, I recommend the flight of four tasting. My favorite was the pale ale!
R. y.
Good food, beer and service.
What is up with the (live) music though?? Good choice of songs but it's so loud i cant talk to people at my table. The 3 times ive been here ive always left quickly because of the music volume.
It's nice to have free pool but whats the point if 1 side is inaccessible because of tables?
L. M.
The good, food was really good, customer service was excellent on the night.
The bad, lost the meal order but they came to us before we needed to complain and sorted the problem really well.
We felt looked after by a genuine team. Promised a voucher by email still waiting.
All that aside will definitely go back, very good team, venue and food.
I. J.
A fun beer hall with plenty of space, a good array of drinks and friendly staff. I find the "LGBTQ Friendly" label to be completely accurate and have never run into any issues here whatsoever. The food is typical pub food, delicious and what you'd expect.
M. P.
Massive selection of beers. Great selection of spirits too. Outdoor tables are great on a hot day, and the upstairs area is great for a function (again with an outside area which is perfect in warm weather). Staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is yummy.
T. C.
Didn't even get a chance to take a photo of my food, it was so good I couldn't resist. Ordering with a QR code is really convenient and such a good idea. Would definitely stop here again when I'm back in Melbourne. The vegetarian options are beautiful
p. c.
Good venue. Decent beers and lovely employees
D. B.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, nice range of beers.
B. C.
Looks cute, but no noise dampening means it gets incredibly noisey fast. Beers no where near the standard they used to be and staff mostly looked angry there was a crowd there. Quick service on food.
G. R.
Fun venue for large groups with friendly helpful service. Food is fresh and tasty. Great range of the James Squire range of beers.
J. B.
Food was amazing (as always) but super special shout out to Katie! She has the most incredible customer service, was so personable and chatty, taught us about the volume of glasses and just generally had us laughing and smiling! The Crafty Squire is very lucky to have her, and I’m sure all the other staff are wonderful too!
N. B.
Went here for husbands birthday as he enjoys James Squire 150 Lashes-would highly recommend-we got there early, so had drinks outside before food-were there for 4 hrs-staff were friendly and helpful, atmosphere was spot on, and drinks were perfect.
Two ordered the Parmas and I ordered the Lamb Pie with red wine jus-good sized portions and the food was excellent.
I also love the way they have small plates, for people
Like me who at times can’t eat a lot-and also there was what I call snack plates, so you can just order a snack off the menu if a bit hungry-I’m doing that next visit!
Would very highly recommend a visit, and we will definitely be going back.
N. m.
Wide variety of beers on tap.
Good inclusion of all sort of James Squire varieties.
Food was decent.
Ambience in the outside section was good.
L. P.
While the Seared Salmon was beautifully presented and delicious, the 50 minute wait for it to arrive made our group late for a meeting. You'll need to allow more than an hour to enjoy lunch here.
A. T.
Great venue and atmosphere was awesome. One of the best kangaroo meals I've had as it was cooked perfectly. Definitely going back there for a business lunch.
A. W.
Special mention to the girl at the bar, I think her name was gulia, who was a great help cleaning up the drink spillage.
M.
I had the cheeseburger. The patty was thin, dry, and not that hot by the time it came to me. Not smokey or juicy. It's $25. The chips are good. My friends' meals looked better
J. G.
Very enjoyable meal, shared a huge parma, only complaint is the sauce was a bit rich. Then we shared the trio of chocolate.. Yummy. Though a bit of cream or ice cream would make this dish perfect.
A. V. S.
Chicken Parma Tuesdays! Was absolutely yum. Good live music and great beer add to make it a swashbuckler. :D
S. B. (.
I never had a faster delivery of food and beverages! Quality and taste was was awesome!
V. G.
Not much to it, to be honest. I like their porter. But not enough to stay here for long. You can tell they provide thorough training for their staff; everyone was efficient and super friendly. In terms of pricing, menu, decor, etc.... won't be hurrying back. I'd also like to add that, during covid, its hard to gauge the "atmosphere" of a place as there are so many restrictions in place. So please take my review with a grain of salt. I've only ever been here once.
S. G.
Great food and excellent selection of beers.
S. H.
Wait staff were great, atmosphere was good, was with a group of 7 and all were served cold meals, chips were stone cold, and my Parma only just above room temp. Beer was good...
a. k.
Good food, great service and ambiance. They have a decent menu with dishes that include crocodile, kangaroo, emu apart from the usual stuff.
M. M.
Just dropped by the Crafty Squire for dinner, walking around Grand Hyatt hotel I stay. Nice atmosphere, comfortable music and good food.
J. D.
Obviously a good selection of beers but fairly pricey. Nice staff and great place though. Nice to sit outside on a warm evening after work.
B. Y.
Great craft beer. The porter is my favorite. I had the emu skewers and roasted portobello mushrooms which paired together nicely. I will definitely return here.
A. P.
Staff were amazing! Food was such incredible! Great modern Aussie cuisine and well crafted beer on tap! Though their ginger beer was my favourite ❤️❤️❤️ thanks guys
s. r.
Lots of different beers on tap. Not a lot in fridge.
A. T.
Only stopped in for a quick beer.
This place has a good feel. Nice music, great staff. Friendly, clean space
R. T.
Good beer but bloody expensive
T. C.
The beers is very good and food is what you'd expect in a better pub
P. S.
Great for our end of year catch up. A bit of a surreal experience after spending the vast majority of the working year apart due to covid.
Food was great. QR codes ordering system worked well. Service was good.
E. S.
For pubs in the CBD, it's definitely one of the best. I wish they'd just stick to proper pub food like schnitty and steaks. They really don't need to do duck legs. Just be a really solid traditional pub!
C. S.
Great drinking place, with variety of draft beers. Short waiting time for food as well !!
D. h.
Beers were tasty. The pub is a ripper. The shift manager was abrupt and seem like it was a hassle to have to deal with customers. Soured the experience to say the least. But the beers and food have always been first class
G. F.
Good place to grab a pint and watch the world go by. A bit pricier than other pubs nearby though on a Friday night.
A. P.
Had my 30th at Hop Terrace over the weekend. Can’t thank Nicole, Jordan and the team for their amazing service. Location was stunning and cosy and perfect for my party! Thank you SO much!
M. Z.
A good after work pub, plenty of TVs with live sports playing. Good beer list and lunch/dinner menu.
E. K.
Their chicken parm is so good! Really great selection of beers too.
C. G.
Daniel is a legend. Made me and my son feel so welcome.
M. R.
Went here for dinner and music. Had the Penne Putanesca which was delicious. Live music was good and a nice say to wind down after work.
D. B.
Great atmosphere. Very good range of food and drinks. Friendly service. All around excellent experience.
K. B.
Pretty good selection of beers. Very pleasant friendly bar staff.
P. G.
Amazing pub with good bartenders that know what they're selling!
I.
Had so much fun here! Do get the beer tasting menu.
d.
Good craft beer. And there nine takes amber ale has a great coffee nutty flavour
S.
Excellent pub food. Wagyu burger excellent.
C. L.
Fantastic evening. Came with a group so we had a set menu. Food was delicious, and there was plenty of it. Excellent for the price we paid.
I always feel the way a place deals with a special order is a good measure of their service. Our one person with specific dietary needs was very well taken care of and got a lovely meal, all the staff looking after us really went the extra mile.
N. A.
Great place for some beer and pub food. I tried egg plant parma and it was fantastic, perfectly cooked. Pretty regular hang out place for my office lunches and after work drinks.
D. M.
We had a wonderful affordable lunch here today and we weren't alone. Lots of large work groups celebrating Friday. Service was great and coped well with a full house. Definitely a return visit.
B. C.
Decent beer, just your usual James Squire, but the staff were incredibly accommodating; they put the UFC on just for me. Thanks y'all!
K. B.
Nice! Good beer.
Expect to pay $13-14 per pint.
D. C.
Great food and atmosphere. Also wonderful service.
T.
Called into the craft squire with some friends for a post dinner drink.
The service was good, and my beer was alright. Nothing special really but a handy place if your in the area, but it’s not the kind of place I’d sit for a long time lol.

This place has been here for some years now and I haven't been here for a while so today I dropped in for a pre dinner drink.
It's almost Friday and I thought well, it feels like the weekend and I am waiting for my partner to come for dinner so I can have a quick one hahaha
I ordered an Interceptor BIPA Black IPA at 6.1% should come w a warning!! You will enjoy this and you will want 2!! Hahahaha
The service was good and it’s worth a visit if you in the area.
S. P.
Favourite bar in the world. Great beer, food, vibes and staff. Hop Thief is my favourite beer in the world. I miss it everyday.
P. C.
Good service, great food (both quality and quantity!) Any decent value. The selection of beers and corresponding tasting notes is great to try a few a different beers. Plenty of paid parking options around nearby. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.
S. C.
Thanks Rachael and Sujay. Great to see you guys open and doing a Stella job. Loved the food and good vibes.
Oh yeah and “getting on the beers” for the first time out side of lock down. Boo ya.
G. D.
Best beer. Go there on every trip to the big smoke. Love it. (Edit) Can I come and live there??
s. n. (.
Awesome place to grab a drink and feed and watch the soccer. Venue has a twenty four license and is huge so you can catch almost anything here
K. T.
Good location, great beer, decent food and all for a reasonable price. Atmosphere is good and I thought the service was friendly. At times this place gets crowded, but it always feels friendly and adds to the atmosphere of an energetic place. Not so much a tourist spot, but a place for local professionals to come and enjoy a brew together.
M. S.
Been here for Arsenal match and it was amazing experience. They have big space to accommodate quite a good number of people on two ends of restaurant, send to be good place for watching live matches. Crowd was great, team chantings and winning atmosphere. Beer collection here is Also good and sometimes they will have offers running like, you get 10-20% off if you are wearing the jersey of one of the playing teams :)
j. G.
This is a bustling hub of activity. Well appointed and happily crowded. Great menu ,several different eating areas and lovely staff who are attentive and friendly. Food was beautifully done and I am more than happy to recommend this place. Would go again any time.
J. W.
Really nice casual venue, with a limited range of beer if you don't like James Squire, but a plethora if you do. I'd recommend trying some of the more unique crafts.
Venue is clean, and atmosphere is open and casual. Staff are friendly.
J. R.
Good place for a beer and a meal. Great menu, lots of different options that get you away from the traditional pub food. Staff were great, garlic bread starter was huge, enough for four people easily.
The reason for only 4 stars... the kangaroo was overcooked and the wallaby gnocchi was very salty.
A. E.
Lovely staff, great food and drink.
Azra was our server and she was amazing, friendly and funny. Will definitely come back!
A. B.
This is also called "James Squire" and their beer selection on draft is good. I recommend The Swindler Tropical Pale and the Jack of Spades Porter from their in-house brews. If you can get your hands on The Wreck Survivor's Ale (an imperial stout guest tap) then you better drink it. It's some world-class beer IMHO.
T. M.
Rude encounter with a staff member. Ruined the experience for me personally. Have submitted feedback directly - let's see if they do anything about it. Potential to edit the review if they redeem themselves.
Edit: Venue manager has made a nice apology and promised a voucher.
J. C.
Great Pub this one.. Good beers, have a limited brew on most of the time. Lunchtime menu is awesome with nothing over 20bucks. Limited seating outside, has a "rooftop" terrace. Full service restaurant upstairs. Live music most evening from about 5ish
R. R.
Great people really accommodating. Beers were excellent. Lots of sports tv including NFL for international visitor's. Definitely a go too! The IPA was bit smoother without the additional hoppy beers I am used to in Bellingham. Great brew, sorry didn't try anything else.
S. M.
Relaxed atmosphere with a bit of an Irish pub feel. Almost got the Harry potter feeling once you see the interior with he beer map. Overall, an awesome place at the heart of the city.
S. C.
April 2021 update: Since COVID the $20 lunch deal has been cut back quite a bit which is fairly disappointing, but still solid food and decor.
They do a great $20 lunch special with lunch normally around the $25-30 mark. Parma is a solid size, and the Angus burger is reasonable for a pub meal. We ate as a group, and they have the offer of ordering ahead which worked well and came out 15 mins after we sat down. Up stairs dining is a great venue with good views. Staff have been great, and has all the perks of a pool table and all which is rare to find in the city. If you're a drinker, they've got a variety of beers on tap and 3 bars to chose from.
C. F.
Incredible food and service. You won't be disappointed if you dine here unless your a sook. Was so happy to learn they served The Wreck here as well as Sydney. Waited so long to try it. Seriously, the owner should be proud of such an establishment.
J. T.
A reliable watering hole with a good range of good beers from light summer ales to winter stouts. They often have live entertainment and foxtel sports. Seating can be used up quickly, hopefully they'll extend up stairs. There is a pool table and brewing vats on open display. Food is decent to good with the typical pub options available. Good spot for casual lunch and after work brew.
C. L.
The food was good with large portions. The beer selection was great if you only like to drink James Squire ales. The layout was open and inviting. Make sure you use a toilet elsewhere because this place has the dirtiest bathroom in Melbourne(My female guests said the women's was fine).
A. T.
Huge place with huge selection of delicious beer and great pub meals. The Parma is epic, good luck with it. Weekday specials including $20 main meals makes it perfect for a sneaky city pub lunch.
F. T.
Nice pub if you're into James Squire beers! They also have screens where they seem to show sports and they organize a few events such as watching Game of Thrones. Overall a nice place to have a beer!
G. H.
Friendly staff, great range of food, lunch time specials where any large plate is served for $20 is great.
Some people might complain that it's upstairs, but people complain about absolutely everything and anything these days rather than looking at the few key factors that make a place enjoyable; great flavours, great service, good ambience, and good prices...
Suits me just fine!
C. S.
This is a James Squire pub. Do yourself a favour, skip the beer you can buy in any bottle shop and go for their seasonal and special brews.
T. S.
Great place to have a few drinks with my bro. The live music was very cool since he played some good songs and you could still have a conversation without shouting in people's faces! Not been disappointed yet!
A. B.
Not sure if it was the chaos of Friday night, but we a two separate wait staff ask if I wanted to order drinks and then not long after drinks arrived, asked if we wanted to order food. We asked for a couple of minutes and 30 secs later someone else asked for our food order. If the place was new, I could understand this issue, but surely they have been there long enough to allocate tables to wait staff. Other than that the food was good and came out quite quickly.
A. M.
Great pub.
Plenty of seating(even during busy periods)
Decent bar meal which was present nicely on a board. Fresh/hot and tasty chicken sandwich
Staff are attentive and quick
No complaints
A. C.
Good food and beer. Accommodated a group of 8 at short (no) notice and put up with a raucous group.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Everyone enjoyed meals ranging from nachos to roo steak.
J. T.
Live music and a party atmosphere make this venue a great destination for a night out with friends.
Huge selection of Squire's Craft beers on tap, as well as regular selections of wines and spirits.
A must go-to for interstate and international visitors. You Will be happy you put this pub on your must try list!
V. S.
Been here once and I didn't know what beer to have since they seem to serve pale ales all the time so I had a red pale ale which was good suggested me by a friendly bar staff. You can't have food on the outside area which is the only downside as well as some pricey food. It's a sport bar so go for it sometimes and love music takes place some time in the week
K. C.
Great selection of beers, obviously, and realistically just the right amount of choices on the food menu.
The prices are reasonable; but more importantly, the food is absolutely delicious. Being in a largish group, we had the chance to try a fair selection of mains and no-one complained about the food at all. In fact all the comments were positive!
The only slight negative was the attitude of the person who was serving us. Short, bordering on surly seemed to be the attitude de rigour for the night. Then again they may have just been having an off time.
E. S.
I like it, one of my favorite pubs in Melbourne. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the craft is great. I personally like the atmosphere as well.
They also have this very nice balcony upstairs (available from 5pm onwards).

A very relaxed venue to have a drink or 2.
The food we had was nicely presented and was generally good! The Parma chips were so soggy underneath and were not really value for money at all, the bruschetta was bland and needed more flavour! The trio of dips were delicious and are a favorite on any tapas menu!
You gotta be a James Squire lover to drink here, the Golden Ale is my choice and a recommendation for an easy drinking beer full of flavour! Plenty of options to choose from, I wasn't aware of any low carb beers though.
Service was adequate but felt we were more of a burden than a paying customer. I saw a few people walk in unsure whether they could order food or where to order from because no one was greeting them, the same for us as well. It is first impressions and nothing worse than feeling awkward or ignored.
It was nice to sit back, relax and watch the cricket on the big screen with chilled out music in the background!
It was a good choice and just a short 10 minute walk from our accommodation, The Hotel Windsor.

Good service and the food was also very tasty. Unfortunately they threw away our leftovers when we asked them to put them in containers to go.
They said sorry, it was a mix up but it was 2/3rds of a Chicken Parma uneaten and perfect to take home and eat. They could have comped it, or did something other than say sorry, our bad and still charge us full price for it.

We organised to have our Christmas party with the Crafty Squire and I could not recommend them highly enough. The service, the food, the table décor, everything! was just perfect. They even offered for me to send the décor in earlier so they could set it up for me ... which was done so beautifully.
They catered for so many dietary requirements that we had (gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan and allergy to onion) it was just incredible and the food was delicious (there was so much we couldn't eat it all). They had an amazing selection of beers and wines so everyone was very happy. They really went above and beyond all our expectations. The attentiveness before and during the event made the whole process so stress free. I am constantly getting feedback from all who attended on how much fun they had.
Thanks again for helping us pull off such a successful event!

Great place to chill out. Had acoustic music playing when I was there. Great vibe. The Squire beer range needs a bit of a revamp compared to some of the newer craft beer outfits around.
H. J.
Ordered the vegetarian black bean and sweet potato burger. Was brilliant though I wish the burger wasn't so lukewarm. Drinks are reasonably priced and great for larger groups. Would probably return.
N. T.
Nice place, great staff, awesome beer. Definitely worth trying each drop.
J. L.
Service was good and the staff pretty cession always and friendly. Only stopped for a quick couple and a cheesy bread which was excellent. However the prices were a little exorbitant for what is (although trendy), just a pub. The atmosphere was quick good but got crowded very quickly.
Probably would go again if passing by but doubt I would go out of my way to get there.
M. P.
Great beer, great ambience, kind staff. Would come back any time.
R. W.
Went here for a Christmas function this year, we were in the Porter Place space which is basically just two tables they reserve upstairs I'm the main bar.
We had a canape package and there was more food than our group could eat so no one went home hungry, we were also able to choose what canapes were served so we could cater to different dietary needs.
The staff were accommodating and worked with us to put together a function how we wanted so they are open to altering their packages which is good.
In terms of the venue it is huge, there are 7 different function spaces as well as public spaces, the name makes it sound trendier than it is, although it is a micro brewery the vibe there is a casual pub serving big pub meals.
W. W.
A great place to come down to and try some of the beers brewed in situ
C. M.
Typical squire bar with a huge range of their beers. Set up as a typical Melbourne pub, very intimate and with plenty of books and crannies for privacy. Was missing a bit of individuality though, felt like any other squire bar I've been to
S. B.
On a Monday night it was not too busy, live music and friendly helpful bar staff happy to have a chat and a laugh. Dinner was great and I would have settled in for the night if I didn't only have the one night in Melbourne to explore.
D. C.
The atmosphere is great, couldn't sit out side cause it was cold and raining, but what can you expect in Melbourne. The food was good and the portion was huge, cooked well and quite tasty. The seating ok, there was space for most however some did leave as they were unable to find anywhere. In the warmer months I am certain that when the windows are open you can just sit and watch the world go by. Great place socially or if you just want to come and read a book. The staff are great and are more than willing to help with whatever you desire. There was also live music to listen to while you drink, eat, read or just sit by the fire. Thanks guys.
j. i.
Just to be fair, service was really good, crew has been friendly. Its just the steak that I had, seems too dry, same with the parma of my mate, its soggy. All is good, as we got the lunch special.
J. T.
Really friendly staff, great customer sercice, and drinks were perfect. Exactly what you woukd expect from a bar in Melbourne. Unfortunately on Sunday evening when we visited, they tuned the volume up (for some footy) on the tv so high that we could no longer have a conversation without shouting so we had to leave.
D. S.
Amazing place for a meal. Had the fish and chips for lunch, very tasty!!! Also had a apple and cinnamon old fashion, fantastic. We first walked in down stairs and it was full then realised the restaurant is upstairs with tables available.
D. L.
My favourite sports bar in Melbourne. Can always count on them to show every sport match live at any time.
Waitress with long brown hair was so accomodating, and helped us “oldies” out a lot. Went above and beyond.
M. O.
Food was pretty good but we were there for the beer.
Pros - Great selection of JS beers. Liking the Summer Haze atm. Some stuff I can't find anywhere else. Food was ok
Cons - Lack of bar staff during Happy Hour.
S. J.
This is a comfortable venue for larger groups. The kitchen does make the effort to coordinate the arrival of your meals which is always nice. Be prepared to wait for your meals, however. We (group of around 10) waited about 45 minutes between ordering and arrival of our lunch.
T. K.
Great place, loved cider and beer. We ate only snacks and wished we could share it (portion was too small) - but everything else was great. Loved music and service.
P. H.
Great place for beer lovers. We also loved the chicken parma.
J. T.
Please pass my absolutely massive thanks to Nicole. I wasn't feeling very well the night I came here and Nicole was incredibly kind to me. Such a lovely lady! Thank you again
R. P.
Excellent hotel with good pub food. Mostly James Squire beers a d ales. Friendly and efficient staff.
J. E.
The local, has had a great face lift in the past decade and has spaces for everything. I especially like the outdoor fire on a cold winters night( could do without the smokers sorry) They run trivia nights, comedy nights, beer and scotch appreciation nights *may have had to stumble home that night!* They play most sports lives so great if your favourite team isnt in on the free to air
C. C.
Great place to pop in and have a home brew! Entertainment available during certain times. Very cosy and easy going atmosphere. Friendly and courteous service by staff and security staff onsite. Definitely worth checking out this place while in the city.
R. P.
Decent - but not great - pub food. The $20 meals are good value, though quality was a little variable - a veal schnitzel was a little tough, the pie was overly salty, and the risotto looked a little small and sad. The service was also a little slow. Good beers though.
B. W.
Great selection of beers, very tasty too! Friendly, efficient staff. Just a bit loud inside and the table outside too wobbly to rest anything on.
A.
I've only been here for lunch because they have a very good lunch deal. $20 gets you one of their large plates plus a pint of one of their tasty beers (the chancer is a solid choice) makes for a good deal. The large plates are pretty massive. A parma gets you a hefty piece of chicken with plenty of crispy chips. It's pretty standard pub food fare but it goes down well.
D. M.
Lovely service, decent range of drinks, and great atmosphere. Not for a cocktail night, but great for a casual catch up
G. M.
Enya is always very knowledgeable when reccomending beers. been a few times now and cannot thank her enough for going above and beyond for the customer who doesnt know what they want. the food is exceptional and well priced. 10/10 would reccomend getting seated here with Enya for an ace night of service
J. W.
Great selection of beers, not too crowded either. Good place to stop for drinks before you head off to the local clubs.
Was disappointed with the service by one of the bartenders who informed us the bar we were at inside the venue was closed, however, he continued to serve other people as we were leaving. Also watched him pour a half-shot into a drink I ordered.
J. A.
Great place to visit when I'm in Melbourne. Good friendly service, great beer and tasty food
E. F.
Good value lunch for $20 was a giant Parma, was a little one the cold side but might have been as a result of me talking a bunch with my mate. The place is certainly a lot cleaner and tidier than it used to be when I last went in maybe 5 years ago
A. m. m.
Lovely atmosphere and great tap selection with an interesting rotating beer paired with tried favourites brewed on-site. Beer garden and smoking section is very cosy and inviting with live sports also available.
A. H.
Great beers! And this is coming from a Belgian!
Super friendly staff!
And most importantly, they showed every world cup game live and loud!
However, sometimes it can be very crowded there. But I think that only speaks volumes about their success.
B. L.
Love the beer menu here, something for everyone! They brew on site as well and those beers are truly worth the trip in. The food is traditional pub fare but the serving size are generous!
D. J.
A great place for a beer.
K. S.
You can always count on Squires for a cheeky pint or 6, fast becoming a Melbourne institution!
D. E. (.
Was better list as they had more weirder small batch but still a solid bar
G. E.
Decent pub grub but nothing special. $16 for 2 very small pulled pork tacos was a bit of a rip. I'd suggest you order the schnitty if you want value for money. More a place to sink so beers and banter with the lads.
P. S.
Bright and open environment with friendly staff - happy to talk about the different beers on tap & offer a sample. Good selection of meals.
M. S.
A very popular place with a great selection of beers. They have a flight of six for $15. Tried their Thrice hopped ale, Porter, Australian pale ale, Hop thief and two of their seasonals (Can't remember). Loved all of them. A must do while at Melbourne.
C.
Love this place, work around the corner and visit regularly. Super chilled out and has a lot of sport on as well, not super pretentious like a lot of bars around the CBD. Beer is awesome and the food is pretty decent as well!
S. G.
Excellent place to sample the James Squire range of beers. Good menu of food available. Sports on the screens dotted throughout the bar. Pool tables on offer. Try the Portland IPA, it's a ripper of a drink!
f.
Good food, decent selection of beers but not a pub for a business lunch, which is a shame considering the location. Just too noisy to be able to converse with a client or colleague over a bite to eat. Would love to see them dampen the noise from the kitchen doors and lower the volume for weekday lunches.
P. M.
All very nice if on the expensive side. Our meals were very delayed because of an apparent technical error in the kitchen. Obviously it's got a good choice of the James squire range of beers which are quite good
M. D.
My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary, the food was delicious - he had black cod and I had chicken and mushroom pie mmm. The beer was also yummy and the service was wonderful. We were nearly put off by the bad reviews, so I'm glad we didn't fall for that! :) definitely will be back.
M.
Good beers and respectable meals available all day. The main sports bar can get a little rowdy, but there are quieter sections available.
B. M.
It's pretty simple... cold beer, nothing too fancy, but a great spot to relax after a long day. This is my favourite Melbourne pub! They usually have some good beers they brew in the pub, plus the usual James Squire favourites. I recommend lashing out on a giant bowl of cashews for the perfect compliment to your afternoon beverage.
J. M.
had my final lunch with my team in Melbourne - the food was pretty good and the service wa top notch!
N. Y. C.
It's a fantastic place to watch football, soccer and any Sport. Also, you can get different styles of beer to share and join with your friends and new people! I love it!
j. a.
Good but not a great craft brew pub. Reasonably selection of James Squire beers, they need to add the double ipa back. Parma is great but stay away from the steak
T. P.
Enjoyed the beer, kangaroo and open window seats.
D. F.
i did not try the food, but the beer is fantastic!
J. H.
I really wanted to like this place. And I'm being generous with my 3 stars.
I had the vege burger and it had very little taste other than of something that had been burnt. In the past I've loved the odd mushroom and halloumi burger, but this time I was disappointed.
We also had a new waiter (probably his first shift) who didn't understand our drinks orders nor could he tell me what the current special beers are. This isn't his fault, this takes time, but maybe someone should be with him (there were only a couple of table seated).
The porter pie was very nice and the beer even more so.
I'll be back, but only for the beer.
J. D.
Fantastic pub in the city, with a good range of beers and we'll portioned food. The Parma is amazing. Staff have always been super friendly and they are organised and professional when holding functions!
L. E.
Visiting from Los Angeles great place to hang up with friends watching Chelsea's games. Food is great and lots of variety of beers. Will be back when come back to Melbourne.
D. C.
This pub can best be described as absolutely brilliant. Every single beer is 100% spot on. I only say that because I have tried each one. Several times. I'm being serious. I'm not spinning a Furphy. One occasion I had a feed in there, I ordered the kilo chicken parmigiana. It actually was two 500 gram chicken parmigianas. So I guess that equates to a kilo. The young barman said to me, "I guarantee you won't finish it". I have to admit, it did take me a while but I finished it. I hadn't actually eaten all day previously because I had to many things to do that preoccupied my time. I certainly wasn't hungry when I was finished. I obviously washed it down with a few James Squire beers. They certainly complemented my meal. James Squire beer and a decent sized chicken parmigiana, what could possibly go wrong. Nothing, I'm willing to bet. I really could've stayed there all night, but unfortunately they had to close the doors later that night. Better luck next time, I suppose. All the patrons were a very indulgent lot, and they all ordered nice big wholesome meals. There was certainly a really good vibe with everybody that was present which made the night all that more enjoyable. Everybody that I spoke to was having a real good time. It just goes to show. Melbourne certainly is full of really good people and they all enjoy having plenty of good beer. Certainly a good thing to experience for a country bloke like me. On my next trip to Melbourne, I'll make it a priority that I drop into the Portland hotel for another decent sized feed, plenty of excellent James Squire beer and a chinwag with all the friendly patrons. I rate the Portland hotel very highly indeed. Top spot.
A. W.
Great range of craft beers and pub food
J. D.
Friendly bar staff. Love visiting each time when we are in Melbourne.

Visited Saturday 12/01/19
A nice place to come in and have a few tapas with friends while enjoying the refreshing ales courtesy of the James Squire brand.
I would definitely recommend doing the share plates between friends or couples. Generally, they were all pretty good but found the parma chips to be soggy and the bruschetta lacking flavour, the trio of dips were great!
The staff were pretty good, one English fella who served us looked as if he wanted to be somewhere else but here.
Overall a good experience and nice place to relax and watch a bit of cricket on the screens or just sit back and enjoy a good convo with friends!

This is an amazing place. Staff so friendly and have many options to service any occasion including weddings.
K. R.
Great space for large groups. Food is better than you'd think for a pub! I had the salmon and it was moist and delish. The service is also great. Nice spot in the CBD; highly recommend.
N. C.
I organised a birthday get together on friday night and the staff were excellent. They made organisation easy, and they were receptive to a last minute change to book some more space. I also liked the casual setting upstairs and the selection of beer. Will be back.
R. S.
A great place for good beer & food. The ambience was good too
C. G.
All the Squires beers in one place. Happy hours are 50% off all drinks! Get in
N. B.
Why did James Squire have so many mistresses? Anyway he made a good beer so all is forgiven I guess.
J. M.
Nice spot for a drink in the heart of the city.
Decent drinks selection and the outdoor seating on Russell Street is great.
L. M. C.
Great place for a quick beer and watch the world go by
D. G.
Great place within the city for drinks. Outdoor seating is good
A. H.
Enjoyed using the QR code to order, but would have been nice of the system recognised the number of people on our table. Final meal came out as the first person was done eating
T. A.
It was ok. Kangaroo was good, but the roast veggies were undercooked. The beers we were provided were only just ok, the last three all had licorice overtones, really not my thing. Would have preferred to go to a real craft brewery.
a. g.
Great place with the right Melbourne Heritage ambience. Love the food and the choice of appetisers.
M. J.
I love the atmosphere of this place. The beers here are always good (I'm not a big fan of their neon-looking apple cider though). The food here is always nice.
R. S.
Had the ploughman's plate and two tasting trays of their beers for $45. Unimpressed with the ploughman's plate. Cheese's where tasteless and the pickled onions tasted like they'd only ever heard of a brine. Beer's where all pretty tasty though and good people watching spot.
A. B.
A nice looking venue with a great space and decent beer that could be so much more; however the grumpy staff, excessively loud music (you can't have a conversation here) and the insane prices ($10.50 for a pint?!) are what's holding this place back, and has disappointingly succeeded in pushing me away from ever returning to here or the Portland Hotel in which this place is situated.
F. “. I.
Nice place for drink some beers if you are in the area. Nothing special.
G. P.
Very good menu for a place that we thought only for beer.
Many kind of dishes, from standard meat to kangaroo, emu, crocodile and vegetable dishes.
Clean, good atmosphere. Price maybe little expensive, but you have to think also the place where is located, in the center of the city.
J. V.
Large selection of craft beers n ciders. Nice n comfy location.
D. M.
Frienly staff, quick service, generous portions and tasty beer. What's not to like. We went there before a commedy show and they have a very convenient deal. Definitely recommended.
G. D.
Stopped off for a couple of pints after walking the city all day. It has a variety of James Squire on tap and the wedges for a snack we very good. I should have star favourited the place on Google maps for next time
M. T. C.
A corporate pub lifted above the three-star doldrums by good staff and a decent little beer-loft.
No surprises from the James Squire line of beers, but they're still perfectly good and occasionally brew a one-off champ. Remember, these guys were helping keep craft beer alive back in the 90s, long before most of the newcomers emerged. They may be part of the Big Leagues but haven't forgotten where they came from.
The venue is pretty much the standard corporate barn, BUT has excellent window-watching and a very decent hidden-away 'garden' upstairs.
Usually I'm allergic to 'professional' staff -- Australia being nothing at all like (say) France in this respect -- but the Crafty Squire hires well.
And most days of the week there's a very decent happy hour (by Melbourne standards), one which takes much of the pain out of the Commonwealth's lust-wracked tax grab on beer.
Pick your moment (hint: not on Friday at 1800) and swing on by.
K. A.
Great place for afterwork drinks. Staff are friendly. Pricey after happy hour, but still good vibe with the band
D. W.
Noice. Unusual. Craft beers are cold, the music is fabulous, rustic Australian pub looks great, classy clients and you can eat national emblems with a top grade pub menu. This is one of my after work go to's.
D.
Nice beer but my good it's loud in there. Hard concrete surfaces everywhere, you can have a chat if you shout at reach other.
J.
Good guys behind the bar, met some nice people there as well. Played a doubles game with the pool table on the line and won. Only to play another game with the same players because it was too much fun to just leave it as it was.
s. b.
Went for lunch with my team during the week. Great menu selection, reasonably priced and good quality food. Will be going back again.
A. K.
Fantastic! Great place with great atmosphere perfect food, I'd recommend the roo steak, best I've ever had! Really nice welcoming staff too also great selection of beers. Do yourselves a favor, and get there lol.
D. L.
Do you like beer? Do you like to drink it? Do you like to drink it out of a glass? Well good news, this place has beer that's drinkable and served in glasses. A truly rare experience that is not to missed.
S. S.
Relaxed vibe... a glass of cool water and a glass of beer for the man in this 32 degree Friday ! With live music! Amazing..
P. B.
Excellent beers. Above average food and not too busy lunchtime. Highly recommended. Pity they don't do entertainment card discounts anymore.
D. C.
Beer was alright, but the "Thai beef salad" was a big bowl of meh. 95% of the dish is tasteless noodles, with the rest being a few strips of not-bad-but-not-that-good beef, a few token strips of capsicum, and the world's saddest beansprouts, all sitting in a thin, watery sauce which added nothing whatsoever.
My friends got steaks and parmas, which they all said were good.
B. P.
Decent bar with "craft" beers (James Squire is owned Lion). It has a decent happy hour and live music (usually acoustic covers of pub classics) and isn't a bad place to stop by for a beer or two.
W. M. L.
On a Monday night it was not too busy, live music and friendly helpful bar staff happy to have a chat and a laugh, Quality and taste was was awesome, You can order and pay for anything without leaving your table!!highly recommended!
M. M.
Wasn't the best experience. Drinks took ages to come and I ordered a burger which was very lacking in flavour
S. S.
Had a lovely meal in here, food was really, really nice. Was let down by down by a young guy doing all the service on his own who was did nothing wrong just was unfortunately quite miserable and really depressed looking, as did some of the other staff in the back. Don't get me wrong they did no one thing wrong, just amazing what happens when no smiles are around and how it affects the atmosphere. The whole place just felt like someone had just had a big argument. Kinda weird. Anyway, sure it'll be fine when we go in again, and truly was great, and a great location
L. R.
Classic pub in the heart of Melbourne CBD. Visit in the evenings to use the beer garden
R. C.
Great ambiance and super helpful bartender as I had never tried James Squire before. Got a flight with her suggestions and it was all good! Especially one called The Wreck I believe. Thanks!
W. M.
Good craft beer bar with live music on friday night
P. M.
Thought meal portions size was small for price but was satisfied at end with steak and 1 side to share. Steak was cold and took some time but taste was superb. It was NYE so will give some latitude.
C.
Some of the best steak in Melbourne. Fantastic cider and even though she was dealing with a bunch of groups on her own the waitress was amazing. This place always delivers.
W.
As well as the traditional pub food items such as chicken parma and lamb pie they also offer more exotic meats such as crocodile sliders and wallaby skewers.
The chicken parma is quite a large serve and can probably be share amongst two people especially if you are also having entrees and/or desserts.
R. W.
Really good pub to enjoy a beer, ginger beer and some lovely snacks
M. K.
Good atmosphere, range of areas to sit for any occasion. Not going to find a Carlton Draught here, but will certainly enjoy their wide selection of craft beers ;). Always pop in when I'm drinking in the city.
D. R.
A vast pub over two levels with mainly James Squire craft beers served ice cold - helpful staff and several good viewing window seats to watch the city rush by as you enjoy the beer.
J. K.
Prices for drinks were pretty standard for Melbourne. Nice atmosphere and friendly. They also sell food which looked very good but did not try.
D. M.
Great food and excellent beer! Service is pretty awesome too!
C. G.
It was a nice place to go for dinner, the food was good and the staff were really nice.
When I was there they had really good live music, such a suprise. Good selection of beer and tasty deserts.
E. G.
Ah on oldy but and a goodie... a trip to Melbourne is never complete without a stop here for a pot and grub...although over the years i've noticed the prices have crept up... but anyway i guess thats due to overheads! there are cheaper eats around but this place holds memories for me and my mates so i will keep coming back. Cheers!
P. D.
There's love music, beer brewed on site and a selection you won't find in bottle shops. The food is tasty, though maybe in the expensive side of pub offerings.
m. g.
Had a lovely time here, great place with lots of room. Food was good and with good portion sizing. Gets busy later in the day if there is sports on as people come to watch the game. Would definitely go back.
p. m.
Accidently stumbled across this place on my way for a feed up in China Town, didn't make it to China Town, but I did try one of each flavour. My favourite choice is the "Jack of Spades" Definitely a must visit and stop in for a quiet beverage when passing by
R. B.
Great beer and friendly staff. Good place to go for a game of pool and plenty of room to just chill out with friends.
Really central location and close to other venues
T. B.
One of the best places in Melbourne to have decent beer and good food. Friendly staff and the possibility to order food online with table delivery is a hit.
P. V.
Awesome food. On the Friday we went there for office lunch they had $20 deal for main dishes which is excellent value for money. Food was tasty, serving size was big and service pretty good
M. C.
Great improvement of what's was Daveys Hotel. The deck at the Checky Squire over looks the beach. There's not many places on the bay that you can eat and drink with fantastic water views.
And the beer is great
N. S.
Awesome vibe, delicious beer and amazing service. The perfect break from a sweltering Melbourne summer day in this cool, comfortable English style up with great emu skewers and portable mushroom sides to top it off!
H. G.
Bit noisy..music too loud to chat easily. The staff are lovely and the food was absolutely delicious. We shared the buschetta and rhe zucchini chips.
P. B.
Accidently stumbled across this place on my way for a feed up in China Town, didn't make it to China Town, but I did try one of each flavour. My favourite choice is the "Jack of Spades" Definitely a must visit and stop in for a quiet beverage when passing by
C.
Decent pub in Melbourne's CBD. The beer selection is honestly a bit boring as it is all James Squire. Plenty of places to sit, live music, worth a visit.
R. A.
But pricy but a nice selection of craft ales and a good atmosphere
C. B.
Good range of beers and ciders, average price, good atmosphere. Showing many sports channels, playing decent music, large venue so don't feel too crowded
M. M.
We ventured to the crafty Squire to play some trivia which was an excellent and entertaining experience. However the food was ordinary at best - had to send back one meal and the beers were massively overpriced.
C. T.
Checked in yesterday for a drink. Staff were really friendly and accommodating, and the place feels relaxed.
G. E.
Decent pub fare and a good beer list, but a little overpriced. The upstairs room is well fitted out and big, but very noisey. Good for a big group.
T.
Great spot. Great beer. Covid safe location! Big fan
J. H.
Awesome parma with quick service. Great beers. Rest of the food doesn't seem worth the price. Good place to catch up with mates. Though.
E. O.
Love coming to this place. I'm not from Melbourne, but when I visit I make sure to go here for food and a drink. They have great live music, a real fire place, and the interior is great.
M. D.
Great place, but you gotta pay for it. Not outrageous prices, but the higher end of average for inner city pubs. Still, though, great pub, great beer, great service.
D. H.
Massive pub/brewery with a great range of James Squire brews. Great rooftop area, awesome vibe, definitely recommend to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable establishment.
S. S.
Great beer selection on draft. $22 Burger was a total ripoff; thin dry meat, mostly bread, no better than hospital food.
C. M.
Great range of James Squire beers and seasonal/limited brews to keep it interesting. Solid bar food. Can get quite crowded and loud.
M. B.
Lovely service! Superb ice outside terrace! Very nice food.
N. B.
Great, friendly service. Meh beer and food.
A. H.
Not sure what it's like on a standard day, but, as a massive arsenal fan from the UK. The atmosphere here to watch the games is incredible, the only place in Melbourne I'd go to watch the gunners
F. N.
Okay food great service
D. R.
Our regular dinner spot. Love the beer, love the food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, although seems to be different people every time we go.
S. P.
Great atmosphere. Tap beer range and taste is fantastic, especially if you like the James Squire range. Highly recommended.
B. L.
Good selection of beers, decent food, nice staff and decent environment
D. S.
Good food and a wide selection of beers. Parmas are one of the best in melbourne. Little bit expensive for what you get, but still good quality overall
L. D.
Great food and wonderful service. Thank you for the Mother's Day bubbles.
B. D.
Great food great hospitable service by all staff. Covid safe sign in!
M. P.
Food was good. The price was a bit high. We had a lamb platter which was only meet and we had to buy pita bread and dips separately
D. a.
Love it. Great selection of beers on tap and good atmosphere. Great for after work drinks - happy hour 4-7pm (M-F)
P. F.
Music was too loud to be able to hold a conversation making it feel like a nightclub. Plus if the bar's empty except for about twenty people watching the rugby, you may just have to concede that the match volume should be switched on if you want customers to stay.....hence why we all went up to the Elephant & Wheelbarrow!
L.
Great everyday pub in the middle of the city to grab a bite at lunch or a drink after work. TVs with sports on around the joint in case you wanted to watch the footy or whatever else.

We were heare early so the food came out really quickly but i wish they'd taken longer and made it good. The porterhouse was ok. Overcooked a bit. The kangaroo was over done ( if you can't cook it don't have it). The beer while extremely tasty being james squires was (and not having drunk much in Melbourne) overpriced. I would think that it would be cheaper at the "brewhouse". Cheap takeaways. Pricey over bar. What the?. Was really excited to come here and was dissapointed. The barchicks did all have very nice bums though

The best place to watch Manchester United play football. Fantastic staff. Give them a try for yourselves. You won't be disappointed
R. W.
Good all round pub with plenty of space, managed to get a table for a big group on the night. Staff are friendly and accommodating and there’s plenty of choice on the menu.

First time at the Crafty Squire and certainly not my last. One of the best Parma's I've had in the CBD. But wait, there's more, around 10 James Squire beers on tap, happy days !!!!
c.
Amazing service, personable and funny. Incredible food and portion size, and the beer is pretty darn great.
T. L.
Normally a great place to get lunch and a drink but the last time I went the food took almost a hour to come out. For a lunch meal that isn't good and one of our party had to rush to finish his meal and run out.
Z. M.
Great pub food and a good variety of beers.

Good food, lovely place, especially love the Jack of spades beer, got a nice flavour to it... Only downside is to find parking though...
M. C.
Over here working, just dropped in for a few beers after a long Friday, excellent pub, beers were tasty, the Cider was awesome - I’m coming back!
C. G.
A great selection of national and craft beers and relaxed environment to chill and grab a drink with some mates, they have a really good sour peach beer locally brewed
P. W.
Only had the beer, so I can't speak for the food, but a pint of Hop Thief on a hot afternoon in these open but cozy pub surroundings makes me happy. A bit pricey.

Great staff, great food, great beer 🍻
Thankyou James and Julian 😎

Really nice place, great food, really good beer. Very busy but service terrific.
S. C.
Had a great evening here. Food was great and portions were massive. Beer was great. I had the amber IPA which was really good
E. B.
The food here exceeded my expectations. Friendly staff who checked up on how we were going. I will definitely go here again in the future.
J. S.
Beer great. Selection very nice high five. Price is meh. But pool table banter is 9/10 nb af.

I've only been to the upstairs bar, it gets very loud with a decent crowd and the food is expensive but there is always a huge range of beer on tap that changes pretty quickly.
M. H.
Friendly staff and sizable portions of the food. Of course the appeal is the James Squire range of beers.
W. T.
Nice place and good wine :)
A. T.
A really lovely place. Great food. Its a kind of pub that depending on your teste you can find a loud spot with music or a quiet spot for chatting.
M.
This was a nice pub with good beers on tap. Service was great. I only had drinks with no food on this occasion.
K. K.
The drink recommendation was excellent and the food was palatable.

Amazingly sweet bartender who took my order and brought it over too me on a busy Friday night because I was on crutches and couldn't carry a drink! Recommend for everyone with and without a broken leg!
J. B.
Food was very good, the beer was ok but not a highlight. If there is live music, it becomes very difficult to carry on a conversation.
J. M.
Great food but even better ale selection! Big open spaces and out front smoking area. Friendly staff
J. D.
The food here was spectacular! Had the bangers and mash and the kangaroo fillet loved every bite! Hats off to the kitchen 10/10

Visited after the tennis with a workmate. Felt like a bush pub. We loved it. Great atmosphere and great service.
L. C.
Excellent range of James Squire beers and ciders on tap to choose from and a fabulous tapas inspired bar menu to snack on whilst you enjoy the live music
K. O.
Beautiful Venus, big and spacious and they do 250ml wines 😍
A. P.
$20 steak is great value and very well prepared.
Friendly service and our meals were ready within record time.

Stopped by James Squire while walking around Melbourne on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was pleasant and helped explain the difference between Rugby and Footie. The food was good but overpriced, same for the beer.
J. M. (.
Beers were Ok, but pricey. They have a great deal to get a pick your own 6 pack for $20. That is cheaper than the liquor store.
B. B.
Excellent service.
Manager was super friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.
T.
Come here for lunch sometimes for the $20 deal. Parma is good (club sandwich is meh), drinks are good, tables could be cleaner though as they've veen sticky every time I come here
O. N.
Pretty good pub in the cbd. Also the food comes fast and the nibbles are not too bad for a pub. Open window spaces are a plus but its pretty noisy.
A. W.
Always enjoy the chance to try their limited seasonal beers. A tad pricey though and their parmas, though good (in my top 3), are a bit too cheesy.
D. G.
Great service, gluten free food options available and quick service! Nachos was delicious 🤤 and of cause the beer 🍻
A. U.
Always a good place to have a pint. With live music and a pool table
S. K. (. B.
Random find. Looking for a quick something to eat and was really impressed. Ultra loud music the only bummer. Great smiley service and fabulous food.5star pub meal!
M. M.
Fantastic Venue! Came here to watch the last half of the footy last weekend and throughly enjoyed the atmosphere the venue has along with the vast variety of drinks on offer!
S. L.
absolutely gorgeous food, always looks nice, even when its gone! joking aside, it is a good, friendly environmental place with nice drinks to add to it
A. R.
The post-COVID method of ordering left a bit to be desired, but food and drinks were good when they came.
I. M.
We had a corporate event here a few weeks ago. Staff were easy to work with, there wad a great live singer and the food was tasty.
N. R.
Great pub. Great beer selection, knowledgeable staff. Good food with some interesting native animals on the menu.
K. D.
Lovely ambience, decent beers and music!
F. J.
Great pub! Nice ambience, perfect location. Not very large, but decent for medium sized events :D
R.
I've had better steak for their price.
E. K.
Good food and beer was decent but they need to replace the couches though. They stink of old booze... foul
s. m.
Excellent choice of beers served here with average food. Nice place to relax and chill out.
K. H.
Good pub as long as you like the range of James Squire brews, which fortunately I do. Big place with plenty of bar options. 🍻
c. d.
My favourite place to grab a tap beer and shake a leg! Great live music and amazing rustic interiors. A must visit place.
C. S.
Great atmosphere like a local corner bar, but in the heart of Melbourne. Great range of Squire Beers, sit back and enjoy.
B. H.
Multi level pub with the James Squire range of beers, generally easy to grab a seat with friends. Didn't grab a meal but the menu was the the typical pub fare.
D. G.
Great staff, good beer. Unfortunately has the smelliest mens toilets in Melbourne. Probably haven't discovered that marvel called bleach.
R. C.
Wonderful selection of beers.. but in this day and age no free wifi is a real disappointment.. especially for a tourist..
K. K.
Great beer. Chilled out place. Great place to meet with mates after work or on a lazy weekend arvo.
D. R.
The BEST place in the world to get any item you need for cheap! The produce section and another food displays were soooooooi pretty! There's no where else like it.
P. C.
A good place to have 👫 of drinks of your choice while you sit on an old stool which can't be a little uncomfortable but after a few drinks you feel at ease then join friends for dinner recommended
J. M.
Just had a scotch fillet steak with a few beers, was bloody beautiful! Will make the effort to return next Melbourne trip.
N. S.
Overall food was great. Service needs to improve though one person taking orders for over 6 tables plus on a Sunday is poor.
J. E.
Traditional Aussie pub in the heart of the CBD with live music. Huge selection of James Squire beers on tap. Very popular with office workers.
P. K.
The cellar is a great place for a quiet beer. The restaurant is very nice but the food was a little hit and miss if you go beyond the standard pub fare.
G. L.
Nice place to have a beer. Beautiful draft beer
A. Z.
Lovely staff, great drinks and pretty good food. It's a very work social sort of place, so great for work functions
G. M.
Good place to go after work. Good range of beers on tap. Pub food is good.
D. B.
Nice space decor wise but the beer ain't cheap. Seating is a little strange and somewhat fragmented and hard to seat couples.
A. C.
This place is a riot. So much fun with the live music. The half pints are $ 7 for craft beer. Go here for a lot of fun!
H. C.
Great food and drinks. Awesome place to watch the cricket
L. T.
Good food & good beer!!!
R. J.
Beers are great. Could work on the food though - my curry was good, but other guest didnt enjoy theirs.
P.
Great location & feel. Go there for the parma but yesterday's was a pre cooked very ordinary example. Need to lift your game guys.
m. b. (. s.
We can order the original Australia beers. Staffs are so kind. If any question, it’s better to ask them.
h. a.
Inner city pub with a standard but better quality than usual menu. You can watch sport here too.
C. W.
Nice atmosphere, good prices, excellent selection of beers on tap.
