Comments of The Sherlock Holmes
J. S.
A beautiful place tucked away in the basement of Collins Street, with a great selection of tap beer.
We finally came back for the food, after booking a table for dinner on the last day before lockdown 6.0. The place was packed, but the service was quick & friendly.
We ordered the Pie of the Day - Guinness Pie, and the Beer Battered Fish & Chips. Both were just perfect! The meat in the pie was well cooked and buttery, and the fish in the Fish & Chips was not oily. Both were perfectly paired with Guinness & Stowford Press Cider.
My favorite place in Melbourne for sure!
S. I.
Amazing, amazing place. One of my go to places. Great food, wide selection of wines and beers and the staff are so friendly.
Yes, it's a bit small but that adds to the ambience of a British pub.
Can't speak highly enough of it. Well done, guys!
a. m.
The food was awesome. Steak cooked to perfection. Chips super crunchy, sticky date pudding with iceceam very good. Plus cider on tap irresistible.
A.
Really like the deco and vibe here. Food is great and staff are really friendly.
D. W.
Felt like I was in London. Friendly staff and nice meals. Will return
G. D.
Can't fault it. Beautiful English pub vibe, in a very confined space. Food is excellent and staff are great. Didn't have a great experience with their sister bar upstairs, but the Sherlock picked up the pieces. The only thing preventing a 5 star review...I don't give full marks. Try it, you won't be sorry.
D. C.
My new favourite pub
It's everything you want in a pub, and none of the trashy trappings which often comes with pubs with such an ambitious names.
It has great food, great beers on tap, full bar, and the best pub vibe on Melbourne CBD. Love it
시.
Best place to drink🍻, best fish pie🐟 and chips🍟 I’ve ever had, kindly staffs👍, and best bar to feel like Sherklock Holmes🕵🏻♂️ while drinking🤣🎉🎉🎉 Absolutely fantastic!!! Worth every penny!! Willing to come here every week! 영국식 바 느낌에 끝내주는 맥주와 안주 집!!!
J. L. I.
Post lockdown Friday night and packed to the rafters the staff were on it 100%, great service in a cosy authentic feeling UK themed pub. Apart from the Yorkshire pudding being slightly overcooked the food was tasty and fresh! Great night overall definitely would go back!
A. M.
Quirky beer names (Brexit ale) and great tucker add up to an easily cozy choice for pub grub. Slightly pricey food with the portions nearly compensating the premium - we had the bangers and mash and the fish and chips. Well cooked Cumberland sausages on a bed of good mash with flavoursome gravy ticked all the right boxes on a cold night. Fish and chips hit the mark per my partner and the cheery service always helps. We indulged in the apple pie and were pleasantly surprised with the crisp crust and the spicy and not too sweet filling.
K. M.
Very nice warm and cosy place . Very delicious roast dinner. Staff friendly.
L. B.
When we arrived round 5pm we found the area we guessed was for dining to be full of what looked more like happy hour patrons at most of the tables. Staff seemed to be joining tables for larger groups of patrons. As there were just two of us we did not seem to be acknowledged and wondered if this really was somewhere to eat? I can say the one great thing about the place was that the food was served hot. The burger was extremely peppery and the schnitzel probably something I would have been able to serve myself at home. To sum up it wasn’t what we had expected when we wanted somewhere close to eat on our stay in Melbourne, however the atmosphere and drinks would more than anything suite locals.
V. L.
First time at the Sherlock Holmes..really enjoyed our meal. We had the Beef and Guineas pie with fries and gravy. Wish it came with veg like carrots and peas.😊
But the pie was delicious. Hubby had the Aussie Schnitzel..with fries and salad.. could not fault it.
We will be sure to go back and try the another meal from the lovely choice of British food
Hope they have Hot chocolate also next time..
R. S.
I enjoyed coming to this pub, the drinks were good and the vibe was nice. I had a little issue with my wedges being overcooked but there were loads of them so I didn't see the need to moan about it. The get a good amount of food and the staff are nice.
P. F.
Excellent meal and Guiness on tap. Nice warm night and sat in the open front windows. Will go back for sure.
Z. Z.
Great place to hang out with friends to play quizzes. Will definitely come every week!!
Nice beer, friendly stuff.
A. S.
Great traditional Irish pub in the heart of the city. Very good pub food on the menu. Also, the best Guiness in the city, full bodied and delicious. And good selection of other beer on the taps.
Great spot to hide from the Melbourne winter with a pint of beer.
J. T.
Basement, a bit of a squeeze, and plenty of good stuff to drink.
Maybe we should try their food ...
C. B.
The food and ambience was always amazing. The service is quite okay. Some servers were rude and others were great, epecially the bartender. He was really nice abd friendly towards us.
I. S.
Classic UK pub food 🍻
Chicken parmy was awesome. Huge portion size too. Best chips I've ever had!
A. V.
Lovers of the British bitter beer rejoice! This warm pub has several cold iconic fresh beer on taps, all the way from GB! For those of you who consider Old Speckled Hen, Guinness, Hobgoblin or the iconic Fullers London Pride as among your favourite beers, this is certainly a haven. OSH is priced AUD 10.50, Guinness at AUD 12. The pub grub is decent, we tried chips that was not quintessential British, nevertheless close to it.
You may have to book a table in advance on Friday evenings. A short walk from The Flinders Street Station, the pub is located off Elizabeth Street. Dr Watson’s pub is on the ground floor and The Sherlock Holmes is located in the basement.
A. A.
As far as a themed pub/bar is concerned, it does its minimum job in its Watson's Bar. There are some usual quenchers and some appropriately named after things from Sherlock Holmes, such as The Speckled Hen, not band. The most interesting thing about this place is of course its menu. To be more precise, the names of dishes are clearly unique in Melbourne and inspired from, you guessed it, Sherlock Holmes. It would, however, benefit from a little change in the decor and make it feel more like Holmes' era of 1800s with some dim lighting. Everything up until this point is about the Watson's Bar on the (above) street level.
Once you go to the Holmes Inn downstairs, you will be greeted with an amazing English style, and quite aptly, Holmes' atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff and always ready to help you with your drinks and dinner. It's got all you can expect from a good English pub. Pies and chips are to die for, especially with gravy. Other Melbourne pubs could learn a thing or two from here. Food menu, both upstairs and downstairs are quite cleverly named. This pub has lots to offer and will take you back to England for certain. Finally, though this should come first, the beer selection is pretty good and will cater for most taste buds.
S. A.
Food was good but service could definitely improve. When I made a booking the woman who answered the phone actually sighed. Took ages for us to get a menu after we were seated, waitress took away our glasses before our drinks were finished. Overall a disappointing experience.
L. M.
We 6 ladies enjoyed our visit. Great food, fun staff and a venue to remember for the future.
최.
This bar looks fantastic and when I visited here at night time it was quite
A. W.
Incredible food and drink. Barman Jessie always makes us feel very welcome. Overall 5/5
S. D.
Nice little pub. Good service. Great chips & gravy
t. t.
quaint, old english pub style, plenty of old character. foods high quality, very cheap prices, great value.
C. D.
Absolutely loved the vibe of the place, good Guinness on tap which is always a bonus. Only thing holding back from 5 star would be the cost of the food, which looked absolutely delicious but was a bit out of our price range.
A. M.
Nice authentic Irish Pub with good selection of beers and decent pub food.
D. V.
As a close to a proper British pub as you will get in Melbourne complete with Monster Munch, Stowford Press, Proper Ales and very well executed British pub grub! (Their Bangers and Mash might actually be the best I've ever had!)
Get a Mixed Grill on the menu and some Carling and I might just move in 😍
E. D.
Love this place for sentimental reasons. Plus the beers are delicious as is the food. And having lovely staff adds to the beauty. Thank you 💖
M. v. L.
Very friendly staff, but clientele were messy: smoking in the doorway because of the rain, blocking access to toilets in groups due to lack of free tables and literally collapsing from chairs in a heap from the table next to us. We didn't order meals, but the presentation of dishes going to other tables looked excellent and worth a return trip. This may also be the closest trivia venue to the office, so I'm keen to try again.
A. H.
Cracking underground british pub. Great beer selections and vibe.
Food options looked good though i didn't try this time.
Also played live football matches.
T. L.
Nice english pub, very good looking place. The food is great, except when it’s busy. You can notice that the chef is rushing and putting zero effort on the meals (ej. No dressing on the salad).
The staff seem not caring at all about the customers. The blond waitress today threw our cutlery very rudely onto the table rather than placing it down and make us feel comfortable.
They need to make some changes.
P. D.
Pub grub, food is a expected, doesn't pretend it's something it's not. On a negative, this is an English/Irish style pub. It's beer range is uninspiring, especially when both its dark tap beers are "not available" and the darkest beer it offers is a Red Ale.
H. N.
Great time at the Sherlock Holmes. The mains were really good and the sticky date pudding is to die for. Will definitely come back again!
D. G.
Very good place make me feel cosy lovely atmosphere with friends yes
C. L.
Lovely venue, fabulous hosts very friendly. Meals were larger than it looked and the beef roast just melted on your mouth. Absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend.
R. I.
Very cozy place to watch some soccer and eat some good pub food, would recommend
W. C.
A cosy, little hideaway ..... Good choice of beers, food as well ..... Old style .... Can be noisy ....
R. J.
Great atmosphere, Super friendly staff & delicious food...
Z. Z.
Brilliant food in a relaxed and cost atmosphere. Recommend for dates and catching up with mates. The roast is wonderful and the porter is worth ordering. Thanks!
F. D.
A warm, inviting space with lots of thoughtful decor and comfortable seats. Great beer, good food. Can get a bit crowded, but most patrons are considerate and help you shuffle to fit!
B. F.
Had the ribs & a few pints of hobgoblin, the food was great (and so were the drinks). The overall aesthetic of the bar is fantastic and I wish I din't have to travel ~1000Km to get some more.
J. S.
Nice cosy pub with a typical British feel to it. Good selection of beers on tap and large portioned pub meals ready to order.
N. B.
Fantastic English Pub. Great food and drink and a lively atmosphere
J. L.
A great place, but $13.70 for a pint of beer!
C. C.
Always good food. On the expe since side but def worth it
P. -.
Stopped in for lunch and had the mushroom risotto. Very nice. They have a few vegetarian options. But even the bangers and mash that went past looked pretty damn good.
L. L.
Awesome English Pub, really felt like I was in the U.K again. I had veal schnitzel with chips & coleslaw which was really scrumptious. Good selection of beers too. Cheers Lads!
G.
Great little watering hole offering British pub ambience, friendly bar staff, an impressive selection of draught and keg beers with great grub.
Complimentary WiFi - ask for password.
T. K.
Great atmosphere, hearty food, classic beer and lovely host. A new favourite 🙂
A. H.
Great, warm and cozy pub atmosphere. The food is awesome pub fare. The beers are great and the staff friendly.
D. M.
Great atmosphere, the perfect pubbfor a tetleys
M. G.
Great night out. Loved the food and drink selection. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
A. C.
The food is fantastic! Love the pie. Well worth the experience.
L. M.
Great name, excellent English pub vibes, nice beer. My food was quite tasteless and hard to eat so loses points for that.
M. T.
The food was great. especially as it was a cold day appreciated the pub type meal I had. Atmosphere is great.
T.
I was looking for a place to grab a beer so I dropped into this bar. Down a set of stairs is this bar serves a great range of beers.
I tried an O’Haras Irish Red, Nitro beer. This was a great creamy beer, w some nice slight almost milky consistency and it hit the spot.
I’m definitely going back here as they serve a great range of beers, some of which I haven’t seen before. Cheers.
S. H.
Dr Watsons bar on the street level was modern and had a good selection of British beers and food (Shepherds Pie and a pint of Tetleys for me!). Downstairs bar (Sherlock Holmes Bar) felt old school British pub like and had same beers/food. Will definitely be back!
J. A. I.
The pub was very nice - it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't overly expensive. The environment was a great place for a chat with a mate I hadn't seen in ages. It wasn't quiet so that we could talk freely, but it wasn't noisy so that we couldn't hear. It was perfect. There were some unusual on-tap beers that were quite nice, the food was tasty (love the nachos, guys!), and the staff was very friendly.
L. M.
Great to be back at the Sherlock. Cosy & comfortable atmosphere
m. w.
Great spot to go.. food is awesome service is great. busy spot would book ahead for a table if you want to eat..
B. B. B. T.
The roast pork was a bit dry but the place has a very cozy atmosphere and is very English in its decor. Staff are great and theres a large drink selection. Beers wines spirits.
D. j.
Every one should check out this place at least once. A very casual spot to drink a verity of booze. Food should be good I saw the menu but couldn't order as I was in a rush.
B. h.
Staff we so helpful and friendly, the food was amazing definitely got my moneys worth. The whole vibe of the place is so different to other places but so good. Highly recommend!!
D. B. (.
I love the cozy nature of this secluded and quaint traditional English pub. They even offer free wifi for patrons
E. J.
Food was good, but they stuffed up our order twice. Will be a while before we venture back.
A. V.
The food was definitely good but nothing to rave about. Very cute English-style pub.
C. “. M.
It has that solid down-to-earth feel of a classic English Pub. Tip of the hat to their non-standard beer collection. The ribs are a great suggestion. Prices are up-market scale, but you're here for the feel and the beer :D
F.
Fantastic place to hangout with friends and chat for hours. Even though it gets very busy after 5pm, still not too noisy to be annoying and not being able to relax. Great selection of tap beer, from UK, Ireland, and local.
Food was great as well, tried the Mexican Chicken Parma and was delicious
P. S.
Nice English style pub with great food. Serving sizes are good and the prices are reasonable. Don't forget to try a pint of Tetleys ale and watch a game of real football on one of the many TV screens.
C. S.
Great atmosphere, good selection of beers from the UK, a very British menu, the pie of the day is amazing. Recommended to book a table on a Friday as it is as busy as it should be.
R. L.
A great little English Pub, with some nice British/Irish beers to go with the good home cooked feel food. Definitely worth the visit. It's at basement level, so mobile phone signal is limited....in case you are coordinating with friends joining you.
S. R.
Good food (I had the roast special of the day) plus a wide variety of beers (as you would expect, more emphasis on English beers like ESBs than new world beers like APAs). Prices reasonable for location and quality.
D. J.
This is easily the best pub in Melbourne , it's cosy , it's civilised , the lighting spot on for a traditional English pub feel .
My mushroom risotto is divine ..and as for Fuller's Imperial Stout ..well I've never tasted a finer drop in all my life
The classy lady who appears to run this pub , I've seen her here on previous visits , she runs a very clean , efficient and professional operation
I wish every experience was as pleasant as this one
S. M.
One of the best Schnitty's in the city. Good beer selection and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Trivia on Tuesday nights is good but you have to book ahead, as the place is full every week.
k. a.
This pub is amazing. Food is great, staff are amazing and a must to try is the shepherd's pie or the corned beef. If you are looking for a quiet drink this is the place to go but don't go on Tuesday night because the pub is full of people playing Trivia - it's a great night out.
N. R.
Great pub. Plenty of brews on tap to choose from including London Pride! You'll also be taken back a few decades as there's barely any mobile signal within the depths of the pub. Friendly staff and great big classic meals.
F.
Nice English pub. Food was not bad. The portion was substantial enough for me and my friends. I liked the Hobgoblin ale, which they had on tap. The staff was busy but was helpful enough to me.
A. E.
Great place if you up to some British ales - they have lots! Cosy and warm inside. Prices are ok for this location. Staff does great job.
Update: beef&guinness pie is excellent!
J. P.
There is no mystery, we liked this place!
We stumbled in off the street and enjoyed The Sherlock themed bar. The drinks were excellent and we had really good nachos.
The atmosphere was excellent and the staff very friendly. Highly recommended for any Sherlock enthusiast
D. G.
Went here last Friday and had a lovely time. The Aussie Parma was very good and the toppings were very proportional to the chicken. The staff were so nice and the pub is a cute little bit of England in Melbourne
J. L.
Exactly like a British Pub you could expect to find across the pond! Excellent range of British Ales such as Hobgoblin, and they serve Pint glasses which shouldn't be a "pint" to make but it can be pretty challenging to find this serving size depending where you go!
The latest sport is always on, and good servings of pub grub readily available.
The only downside was the time at which the kitchen closed - it was closed when we visited at 9pm, so get there early if you're hungry!
Easy to get to as the free city tram travels up and down outside.
Please mark this as helpful if you think it has been!
M.
Today was the second time I have had the beer battered fish and chips and they are wonderful. The fish is crunchy and juicy and the portion is very generous. Finished with a lava cake and it was pure chocolaty goodness. Thank you for the great lunch.
B. L.
Great place for a beer and some food
C. S.
Pub itself is nice and cosy but the waitress didn't actually put our order through so we were waiting for ages before we actually questioned why it's taking so long... Then the food came out and it was very average. Parma was really small and just average...
D. C.
I absolutely love this pub. I am Scottish and they almost always have some local beer or ale on tap. Great atmosphere for some sport and food is damn good too.
Get your mates, turn off your phone (the signals terrible anyway) and get down to the Sherlock Holmes and get a pint of tennents some good food and you will have a great time. The bar staff are really friendly and the beers and good are reasonably priced. It has all sorts of sports from footy, rugby, cricket and everything in between.
They have WiFi also if you do need to be contactable.
S. K.
Went there for lunch - Hot chips with gravy are amazing but the feel of the place is a little claustrophobic, chairs and tables are very close to each other which makes for having a conversation a bit hard of there is lots of noise. In general the food and drink prices are a bit expensive for what you get.
L. M.
This Melbourne treasure is awesome.
The food is reasonabley priced and the portions are huge. Such an nice place to go for a relaxed dinner with friends. I would recommend to everyone.
A. T.
Was my first time visiting Melbourne CBD area. I was served by an American girl, she was excellent, had really good knowledge about the beer. The pie of the day was the best pie I've ever had. Friendly barstaff really make a difference. Will be coming back next time I'm in Melbourne
R. R.
English pub could just imagine the Old English Sheepdogs siting there with a pub tweed jacket brown corduroy pants pipe and 'I'm sitting there with a pipe and a Aussie beer.....couldn't you...
But not it was full of Aussie men and women, lads and young girls drinking their beers, wines, eating chips and having a good ole yarn to one another.
Tad noisy with those 'awful television broadcasts, what was it today, oh yes basketball' lovely when they aren't on though.
Very relaxing, quaint place and so convenient
C. H.
Good pub, closest thing to a proper British pub I have found. Good food and range of drink, prices not to bad. Can get a little loud as it's only a small place. Quiz was good fun!
S. M.
Great slice of England in the heart of Melbourne. Excellent food, service and beer. The Hobgoblin is a must try.
K. F.
This downstairs pub is a find!
If you've got the time to stop in here for an after work drink or a Friday night pub meal, you'll enjoy it!
The staff were bubbly and polite and humoured a reasonably loud and large group of us on a Friday night.
The only thing to note was that they offer free WiFi but when we tried to connect it didn't like the password and/or it couldn't connect - so don't rely on it.
M. H.
Great parmas - a few different varieties to choose from. They use real chicken and all come with chips and salad. Great atmosphere downstairs in the bar and family friendly restaurant section. Used to go to this place years and years ago and all this time later it didn't disappoint!
F. R.
Great drink, food choices and efficient staff
A. B.
Aha, the game is afoot: Found my favorite beer, Innis & Gunn - full of flavour. Good food, great atmosphere and really good service. Ask for a beer wirth flavour and you will get a sample before you go and take the leap of faith. Go downstairs and the relaxed atmosphere will allow you to engage with your friends and allow you to absorb the ambiance.
K.
Great food in a charming atmosphere, but do yourself a favour and don't order a hot chocolate or coffee! The hot chocolate was just cooking cocoa powder in milk - clumped and super bitter. Disgusting.
M. R.
Excellent everything. Best sausages and mash I’ve had in any country! Great Guinness, too! Fantastic pleasant unobtrusive service. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
V. B.
Had the best steak and onion pie! Also, the mulled cider DO IT! We had two mains and two drinks and came out under budget enough to stay a while longer. So glad we decided to check this place out while visiting Melbourne.
I. Q.
First time here and the staff are great and welcoming, and the food is just amazing I had a good feed. And I'll coming back again😊
S. S.
Had a quick drink before they closed, felt like a cool place to have a beer! Guy working the bar was helpful and friendly too, recommending place we could eat cause it was late and they’re kitchen was closed. Worth a visit
K. L.
Great atmosphere good food, friendly staff and reasonable prices
We will be back again
D. S.
The Sherlock Holmes Pub is a gem. Friendly service, great food and a wide selection of drinks. The price of the food is a bit up market bit it is worth every cent. I will definitely be back!
S. C.
Good place , fun trivia, drinks and food are a bit expensive but love having Guiness on tap.
M. K.
Great pub... Exceptional food... Good wine list... Lots of beers and friendly staff... A must to visit when in Melbourne CBD...Still my favourite pub in 2021..Melbourne cbd for great wine ,beer choices and really good food...top value and still friendly service...
D. H.
The Sherlock Holmes (SH) has a broad selection of beer on tap and, good food. A quaint little pub that no doubt would be full of Collins Street lawyer types and, other ”suits ” on a Friday night.
The SH serves, on draught/tap, a treasure that is hard in the southern hemisphere, Fullers London Pride. ”Pride” is a standout ale - in my opinion - in the highly parochial English beer market. Widely available in a bottle in Australia, Pride is rarely found on tap and, even more seldom sold in sufficient volume to ensure a good drink. The SH delivers a good pint of Pride, in quality glassware, from well-maintained beer lines thus, leaving no bad aftertaste. When I was at SH, on a quiet Monday night, the seating was scarce; this is a small pub, located in a basement which added to the atmosphere. For dinner (tea) I ordered the ”Pie of the Day” with chips. The pie is an English style pie, and I enjoyed it. On the night I was there the pie was chicken and leek. It was simple, good quality pub food with light flavours which isn't untypical for ’English pub’ food. Served with chips and, (brown) gravy, the portion size was appropriate but, if you're a big eater or, particularly hungry, it mightn't be a large enough meal. Lots if TVs in the bar area provides, on the whole, an unencumbered view of the sport on offer; perhaps predictably the TV's were tuned to EPL football/soccer available from Optus. It must be noted that the access to the pub is not disability friendly because of the steps leading you down to the main entrance and, no signage to direct you to a disabled entrance.
On balance a nice pub, with a solid food offering that is worth the effort. The English and, Irish, pub market not short of choices at Southern Cross station end of Collins Street in Melbourne. The food is competitively priced and, at $12.20 a pint, the beer is comparably expensive.
M. P.
My friend works there so i feel like i should not be judge of this haha, but I am hanging there quite often and had loads of chips with gravy (gosh so big and delicious+plus for 8 $ is a real bargain in cbd) had fish and chips, pies and salads and always loved it plus the portions were more then friendly:)
S. I.
I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and have always wanted to eat here. Delicious food, good-sized portions and ambiance was great. Just wished the staff were friendlier and more accommodating.
J. F.
Travelling from interstate, was just looking for a place to drink untill my hotel was ready, ended up getting food as well. After my first experience i had to go there again the next day. The food is amazing, staff are super friendly and the down stairs bar has an amazing cosy feel. Couldnt recommend enough.
T. S.
The food is great and the wide variety of beer is even better! With a good taste of music the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend the sherlock Lager they have on tap, goes down smoothly with a schnity and chips! Staff are excellent and friendly!
J. D. (.
Quaint little pub. While I did not quite understand why the theme of Sherlock Holmes, visiting Baker street is always exciting ! Anyway the food was great. Will visit again to try out some beers.
J. G.
Cosy but busy underground English style pub in the financial district of Melbourne. Always busy Friday evenings. Decent pub fare and a great selection of English and Australian beers.
Don't expect much craft beer, this is certainly a traditional style pub.
P. K.
I haven’t been for years so loved the new upstairs bistro. Great friendly staff, the only let down was the lack of genuine vegan menu options.
R. C.
Excellent menu and service. A favourite, a hidden underground gem in the heart of the city.
A. H.
A group of us regularly drop in to the Sherlock Holmes whenever we're all in Melbourne & we keep coming back for it's atmosphere, menu, & prices. Although it's a bit tucked away, it's a great little find, and Trivia on Tuesdays is worth checking out too. Keep it up guys, you're doing a great job!
S. H.
I love this place. It's on basement which is unique and the decorate is really nice & warm. I ordered salmon and it's awesome ! I would love to order the pie of the day on my next visit after tried my friend's.
S. W.
As close as you can get to being in a traditional London pub without booking a flight. On that note, heavily nostalgic for British ex-pats, backpackers and particularly your dad who can't handle pale ales whilst visiting here. Be warned: steep stairs down from street entrance much like the other lesser impressive Charles Dickens Tavern.
Once you get to the bottom the atmosphere isnt just in the uncanny decor. "What on earth are schoonas?" quizzed the bar girl straightfaced to the man being served next to me and then gave a wry smile. Its a relaxed and friendly drinking hole albeit not cheap.
British real ales are obviously available (though beware London Pride on tap is chilled...had to explain that to the old man before we then ended up having to warm it with our hands...) The surprise standout feature however is the pub fare, roasts recommended, see the ever changing menu specials.
Great for group sessions. Football is shown here, 5am crowds for England games & fry ups are standard, make sure to book a table.
Yeah its an expensive pommy gimmick & I'm naturally a little biased but it's close to the real thing & pulls it off for the right reasons.
tl;dr: good tourist replica london pub, footy games shown, ales on tap, decent pub grub, warm atmosphere, pricy but that's to be expected
W. H.
Your traditional English pub feel. A bit old blokey but still lovely and they have Guinness. Yummy food and not too pricey. Not as much Sherlock paraphernalia as I hoped but still cute.
s. g.
Great Service and a warm welcome ! I highly recommend the pie of the day. Being a Leeds lad I was certainly happy to find they serve Tetleys on tap. Brilliant pub ! stop reading this and get yourselves in to The Sherlock Holmes.
K. T.
This pub is great, food is always tasty and hearty and the beer selection is good, I'm always partial to the hobgoblin on tap. The staff are usually from somewhere in the UK or Ireland so it has that Genuine pub vibe.
C.
Really nice basement pub with older style decor and plenty of seating. Food selection looks decent and the cuisine is classic english pub style. Would happily go back.
R. P.
I love this place, cozy but not ridiculously small. Food’s great, beer’s great and alway has today newspaper, what else do you want in a pub.
W. M.
Styled like an English pub. Great atmosphere, service and choice of English beers on tap. Trivia nights on Tuesdays, when it gets pretty busy.
D. M.
Wished I'd taken photos. Old worlde Sherlock Holmes style. Full of character. Both bar staff were lovely ladies in both personalities and customer service. Hope to get back there again.
J. I.
We had our work Xmas party here, and some extra numbers that hadn't rsvp'd came along. The staff bent over backwards to fit us in & make sure we were taking care of. The meals were fantastic, the atmosphere was great, and my team had a fabulous time. A huge thankyou to all the staff at the Sherlock Holmes. They were so friendly, helpful and easy going. We'll definitely be coming back!
S. P.
Ye olde English pub in the heart of Melbounre. Great range of beers on tap and great British meals. Ignore the free wifi and you could be offline for whole time that you are there, bliss!
S. M.
Love this place. Nice and cosy. Good selection of beers and wines. Wedges are GOOOOD. barstaff a bit touch and go with attitude, but doesn’t impact your experience too much.
I. M.
Excellent little pub. Great selection of proper British beer imported. Good food. Several TVs for sports. What else could you want?
A. G.
Proper pub, reminded us of cosy old English pubs. Great atmosphere, delicious food and good choice of beer!
J. R.
Good fish and chips (huge portion). Large amount of beer on tap. Kitchen closes before 9pm, so if you want dinner, go early.
M. Q.
5 stars for the beers on tap, 2-3 for the food and solid 4 for the fit out. Great spot for a beer downstairs hidden away and had the old school charm that is getting harder to find.
I. D.
One of my now go-tos in Melbourne. Place is small so you may not get a seat. Great selectiin of beer and ale. Food was tasty and good value.
m. b.
Would give 5 stars but I ordered extra salami on my deluxe Parma and it come with none chicken was great but when you pay for extras you need to deliver those extras was there on the 6th of the 2 nd 2019 I was not happy when I told the waitress and her answer was. SO. Customer service needs to be looked at .
d.

Great little British bar on Collins st- a real find - much better atmosphere than the much vaunted so called Irish bars nearby- and I say that as an Irish person
T. R.
A good British style bar. Friendly service and a wide range of beers.
An extensive menu of pub food.
j. C.
Great Trivia nights with the ever enthusiastic comedian Janet McLeod hosting every Tuesday from 6:30pm. Super friendly crowd, great food, beer and atmosphere
E. M.
Great generous and tasty meals of typical English fare. Loved the decor, most Aussies would think its a little cheesy but it's really like a taste of the old dart.
F. L. M.
Atmosphere is great, the food is good. Ironically, the staff seem very clueless.
D. P.
Quaint and exclusive downstairs pub
A. W.
There are an extraordinary amount of pubs and bars in the CBD in Melbourne.
The Sherlock Holmes, is a lovely, cosy, unpretentious spot to relax and enjoy a few sneaky ales. True charm! 🍻💪
R. H.
It's a nice spot for a quiet beer when not many people are there. It can get very busy after work though. There's a good range of beers on tap.
T. S.
The Sherlock Holmes first grabbed my attention with its iconic old English Style signage and stairway leading underground.
They've kept my custom ever since the first pint of Guinness was poured part way and left to sit and settle. For those who love their Guinness you'll understand.
Drop in for a good point, a great Parma or a friendly atmosphere. Sherlock Holmes is a winner.
A. B.
Great British vibe with a good number of beers (including some proper British bitters) on tap. It's a basement bar so it has that added level of cosy.
D. L.
British style pub in Melbourne. Good food and even had London Pride on tap. Friendly, capable staff. Good job 😎
L. C.

Transports you back in time to Olde England...well, kinda! Good place to hangout with friends/co-workers after hours. I haven't tried the food but the menu looks solid.
M. D.
Nice enough good vibe and bar staff where nice, didn't have time to eat but felt it has a nice charcuterie/cliché esk take on British pubs, but maybe they are exactly like this haven't been :) worth a look
M. W.
Great atmosphere, good "home cooked" feel to the food - had the lamb's fry, not everyone's cup of tes but I loved it!!

Great dark, downstairs pub in the Melbourne CBD. Plenty of beer options, and standard pub grub. The various parmas (and the Aussie in particular) are a huge feed, and good value.
