Great service! The outdoor area is really nice on a warm day, but despite the size it can be hard to get a table due to its popularity. The food is great here too, and a wide array of drinks on tap

A few vegan options on the menu. The cheeseless vegan eggplant parma was really delicious. Nice place with large outdoor seating area.

Had a classic Parma here before seeing a movie at IMAX down the road. Was concerned that we might not have had enough time for our meal but was pleasantly surprised when the food came out less than 10 minutes after we ordered, and this was on a busy Friday night! The Parma was thicc and juicy and so tender in the middle, with a side salad that actually good for a change instead of your usual pub meal side salad that just as a few mixed green leaves and a pathetic squirt of a lemon. This salad was full bodied and had some depth of flavour which I appreciated. Will be coming back for more!

Possibly the best chicken burger I’ve ever had. Highly recommend it, brilliant crispy chicken, and a simple Siracha Mayo and coleslaw to boot. Chips were golden and crunchy. Service was pleasant, good experience all round.

We found this Fitzroy pub many years ago. Unfortunately, so did hundreds of others! During warm days/nights, the large outdoor area gets jam-packed. Food/drinks always reliable and reasonably priced, but the big plus is the atmosphere. Bar staff are very friendly, even courteous - not always the norm for inner city venues. Recommended.

This is a great spot to go for a beer when the weather's decent. The courtyard is lovely, and the indoor area is plenty agreeable in a traditional pub sense. The staff are friendly, and the beer selection is not large but they always have some interesting ones. The food was OK, I suppose I shouldn't have expected more. Serving sizes are generous so value for money is still decent. The fish was pretty bland, though at least it was crispy. I did really like the tartare, a lot more finely chopped than I would personally make, and pretty heavy on the dill, but overall a good sauce. The salad is always nice to have. My dad got the chicken parmy which was also acceptable, the chicken wasn't dry but it was a bit bland. Having said all that, the chips were great, and also properly salted which is something many places seem to struggle with; maybe just get a giant plate of chips and call it a day.

The first actual Pub I visited in Australia five years ago. Could not have been a better choice. I was immediately identified as a “Yank”, and heartily welcomed with a cold beer by a fella that I am still friends with. I spent a couple of months in Australia, and never found a better example of a down to earth, Aussie pub. I’ve been dreaming of a return ever since.

An excellent Fitzroy pub full of character and tasty, hearty pub grub. Sitting at the front bar is my favourite for a drink. The staff are good chat and very friendly and there's such great memorabilia around the walls there. The beer garden is extensive and atmospheric on a busy day or night. Booking is recommended as it's a popular dinner spot even mid-week.

The Standard Hotel has been a favourite hangout space with our colleagues, every time we visit Melbourne. In fact my fondest memory is my first (& only) experiences in trying kangaroo meat. More so it’s had become a tradition that any newbie from our office visiting Standard Hotel for the first time we order the Kangaroo steak on their behalf & offer then (except when they are Vegetarian). But apart from that, the food & drinks here are amazing, thought it’s the typical pub fare. Apart from the appetisers, the mains are pretty good as well. A must visit if you are near Fitzroy and in need of some good food & wonderful beer, served in a rustic ambiance.

You really can’t go wrong with The Standard. My parents were in town and we stopped by here with no booking - the staff accommodated us with no worries and even put in one of our orders as a priority as one of our party had to work. Called in here for a drink. The service from the blond woman bar was ok. We sat in the cosy beer garden was good, with some overhead heaters to keep us warm. My partner had a Young Henry's Motor Oil beer and I had a Moo Brew Dark Ale. Both beers were dark ales and similar in taste but my Moo Brew tasted more watery. The pub was packed and it was difficult to get a seat inside so we decided to move on and get some food elsewhere. Overall this place was alright and I'd happily go back.

I've only been twice. Once last year (2019) and Friday 4th December 2020 (post lockdown). Staff were really friendly, thoroughly explained the covid safe rules. Food was amazing, just like the previous visit. Good vibe, older crowd and delicious food. Set and reduced menu (I guess to make covid safe rules easier). I tried to follow the covid safe rules for the toilet (4 people only at any time), but as i sat back down at my table, 4 women went in ahead of me. So I just went in. Sorry I had to pee 🤭 The line up for payment had no social distancing whatsoever. Not the standard hotels fault. I'd say alcohol was to blame. Anyhoo, will definitely be back. I really like this pub. Go and check it out and try the sautee oyster mushrooms 🤤

I just love this place! The crowd is trendy and interesting. The service is superb: they are fast and courteous even with all the crowd they get during peak times. The food is delicious and well served. They are careful enough to provide a couvert (bread and butter) while you are waiting. The price is going up and the place is no longer as affordable as it was int he past. I am a customer of 15+ years and still loyal despite the price which now lead me to focus on beer during my visits. If you live in Melbourne, it is worth to try this one. If you are a visitor and looking to try a REAL pub experience, don't miss this opportunity. It is kind of difficult to find but worth the search. There is plenty of sitting space inside and even more in the BEAUTIFUL (hidden) beer garden at the back!

Great untouched classic Melbourne pub. Good beer and good menus. Lots of reasonably priced wines too. I'd recommend the meatsmith snags or the kangaroo. Although, Parma is a classic. Book for groups. Large beer garden for a sunny day. Probably not great for kids as nowhere to run around. Fireplace is lovely in winter.

Great for meeting up with friends. An old fashioned feel pub with a local flavour. Not renovated for a long time, thank god. So retains the ghosts of those over the years who swilled their 6pm last drinks at the bar and staggered down Fitzroy Street when Fitzroy was full of blue collar workers and saints and sinners. Good counter meals, outdoor seating and for quieter dining you can book ahead for a room not near the crowded bar area.

This is a proper boozer, nestled in the back streets of Fitzroy. Brilliant beer garden, and history is soaked in the carpet inside. I've had occasional bad luck with headless beers, but no one I've visited with has. For the most part, it's the kind of great older style pub you wish more people would run.

Four point seven-five stars for The Standard Hotel, a splendid oasis in the kinda-backstreets of Fitzroy. We come back again and again, pretty much whenever we're nearby. Looks like nothing from the street. Looks like not much when you walk into the front bar. But once you explore the place, check out the world-class beer garden, suss the side rooms and tables . . . brilliant. The chaps and chapettes behind the bar know their drinks, and the drinks are good. The crew are friendly, fun, up for a chat. The crowd's varied, the vibe is chill and pleasant. Lunch is popular but we haven't tried it yet. All in all, a first-class spot for a lazy Saturday afternoon, or just a quick pint on your way between other Fitz / Collingwood destinations. Minus .25 stars because the hotel's silent partner, the government, keeps stealing from us all through some of the highest beer taxes in the world. Pro tip: the beer garden can be booked out during sunny summer weekends. So, if you're up for a session, book y'a table.

I visited this place for office chirstmas party. First of all, it's Fitzroy so I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. The private garden is something special. Drinking alcohol with fresh air is amazing feeling. And we don't have to watch, smell and hear traffic like any of other bars. Do not have to worry if it's going to rain. Because they got you cover with steel structure pergola. The littlw detail that I notice is the bathroom. Usually, the bar that I visit. Have very awkward location for the bathroom. I have to go to the very small corner near the kitchen or the play zone to get to there. And kind of smelly. But this bar have the bathroom in the middle of the outdoor area and indoor area. Makes easy to access of you're seating outside or inside. Cross ventilation makes the bathroom doesn't really smells. Awesome place to hang out woth your friends and colleagues.

Rang up to organise around 20 guys coming in for a quick beer for 30mins, just to be polite. Staff member I spoke to assumed we were a pub crawl and said we wouldn't be served. Bit disappointing considering it was going to be for 4pm on a Saturday afternoon after a game of lawn bowls. Happy to take our money and business elsewhere. If you are in a larger group looking for a pub to have a beer/feed at I'd look elsewhere or risk being refused entry or service, according to the staff member I spoke to.

I read some bad reviews before going, but was very happy. I was greeted immediately as I walked in the door, and a second time when I turned the corner. The bean enchilada was very delicious and filling, for $17 I was happy, and no, I'm not vegetarian. Really nice set up, wish I found it before winter.

Had the chicken parma deluxe and the calamari salad. Both were excellent. The chicken in particular was thick and juicy, was crumbed "home style" and was not drenched in sauce and cheese so you could actually taste it.

It's a great atmosphere in summer but in the cold outside, they don't provide any form of heating. It can get chilly, although you can always go in and stand by the fire place :) it's a lovely place none the less.
