A really quirky pub that has great inside and outside dining appeal, and one to head to in winter with its huuuuge open fireplace. Outside there are a couple of dining areas, one with an old Melbourne tram.. a fountain and kids play area. This is definitely one for the whole family. The menu is great. A varied and also basic fare that will satisfy most. The servings are huge, and filling. If there is a crit, its that it took an hour and 10 minutes for a basic order for two to be served - and the place was not busy. Thats why I did not give it five stars. The bar and wait staff were friendly and efficient, and the music pleasurable and in the background. I will definitely be coming back. Where.. 15km east of Ballarat on the M8. Parking.. large off road parking area. Bookings.. advisable. Accom... available, but book ahead.

What a great find this was on the way back from Daylesford. Sensational food and the outdoor areas are fantastic and for the kids to play too.

Two days after restrictions had been lifted and we were craving a parma! So we decided that the best place around Ballarat to break the parma drought would have to be the good old reliable Wallace Pub. And we weren't disappointed! The same warm, welcoming and eclectic decor. The same happy mix of patrons; farmers catching up for a beer in the bar and young couples out for a date, older couples like us out for a long awaited return to date night and families happy to be able to catch up finally and spend some time together over a meal. While the owners were clearly under the pump and they were understaffed as they had such short notice about the restrictions being lifted they did their best and with a smile. The kitchen is turning out food that is as fresh and delicious as ever. We started with halloumi chips and salt and pepper calamari which were lovely. But then the dish that we had been dreaming about during Iso! Would it live up to our inflated expectations? Absolutely it did - and more. Thick crumbed chicken breast covered in a spicy tomato sauce, ham and cheese; melted and browned to perfection. All accompanied by crispy fries and a lovely small rocket salad so you can kid yourself that it's actually quite a healthy meal. Well worth the wait, Wallace Hotel; we'll be back soon for another fab parma!

This place is steeped in history. Beautiful venue with lots of different areas to dine in. The manager was wonderful and very accommodating as were his staff. We went for lunch and highly recommend this venue. We will definitely be returning.

Best accidental dining experience ever! Walked into a warm, inviting atmosphere with large family groups and smaller parties all being accommodated with ease, as was our party of three. Lovely staff, comfy sofas, a great singer/guitarist and REALLY yummy meals...crisp batters all around. We'll be back but will book next time...this place is cookin'!

This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised. They were totally booked out which was also a great indication of what the Wallace Hotel is like. The meals were really nice with great proportion. The staff were very friendly too. Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already been here then do so. You won't have any regrets.

Fantastic food, very polite staff, great prices!! My brother who we shall say is very rotund couldn't even finish his roast lamb, the portion were huge, so very happy. Not sure why people have given it a bad review, you could not get anywhere near the value for money back in the UK, less than £20 a head 10/10 thanks guys had a great time.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The service I got was a little rude but I put that down to them being busy.... That was the only complaint. Meal was amazing the atmosphere was amazing the live music was awesome and not to overpowering. I would definitely come back here again. I can highly recommend the roast. The portion size was Hugh so make sure you bring your appetite.

We had my daughters 1st birthday here just yesterday and it was hands down the best choice we have made with a venue. Beautiful food, excellent service and a great day. We had the whole front room closed off for our function and everyone had a great time. Everyone one said they had a fantastic time and left very full. Highly recommend the grazing platters for anyone having a function there. Andrea and her staff went over and beyond for the day, made it extra special to be looked after all day. It was a lovely place to spend a Sunday (today) starting with lunch then slowly meadering throughout the afternoon ... almost to dusk. The 'Main Hall' restaurant (the size of a barn) always has a relaxed feel. Food is great and not too expensive. The singer playing cover songs on acoustic guitar adds to the easy-going ambience. I always make a point of stopping there whenever I'm around Ballarat (10 minutes away by car.) It has the vibe of entertaining guests in your own dining/lounge room. Ps the winter months are especially fab when the big open fire is ablaze.

Wallace hotel friday 4th october 2013 nice to look at from the outside and the the dining room is spacious , but so dark ,I found it like going to a funeral after they light the fire and turned on some lights it was better . I ordered some drinks for my wife and family A light beer for me some ginger beer for my Son and a Kahlua and Milk for my Wife . The first 2 drinks were pretty standard however the Kahlua and Milk was a bit different the barman put a Full into the glass no ice as asked . then he goes to the Fridge under the coffee machine and pulls out a little stainless Steel jug , he pour this into the drink Glass and uses a spoon to hold back the froth , later on wife complained to me about the taste of the drink and she didnt want another one ,.The menu was ok but nothing that I would like because it contained meat and was not what I wanted to eat , I finally settled for pizza we ordered a Tropical This pizza was basically ok but just 2 pieces of pineapple per slice and it was $17 , the food overall was nice enough but I wont be going there again , The barman also just wipe his nose with the back of his hand and obviously needs to do a food handling course and perhaps a drink mixers course would be good too
