Comments of Young and Jacksons
T. S.
Here's the thing with ALH venues: You've got your good, then you've got the not so good. Thankfully, Young and Jacksons falls into the former. With a variety of dining options, from rooftop bar entertainment to table service restaurant experience, this place has a lot of variety for a night out. We received exceptional service from a waiter who we didn't catch the name of. The fella with the glasses working in the restaurant Friday night, great work my friend! Your service extended beyond your role and was a reflection of good character. We appreciated it! As for the kitchen staff, well done for creating some great food. We definitely got our fair share!
N. D.
Great foods and drinks. Great company. Great service.
Green Goddess dressing on Grilled Salmon was stunningly delicious!👌Full marks to the Chef!👏👍
Chloe's dining room was beautiful. 🙂 But the noise level was so high we couldn't have proper conversation. Possibly due to large number of large wall mirrors and glass-covered prints. 🙃 For management consideration of noise reduction.
L. B.
Great pub. A bit pricey but it's prime location and easy to get to. Didn't try the food, just had a cider. Service was friendly and efficient. Was quiet when I was there, but no reason not to return when I visit Melbourne. Good, old style pub that is worth a drink or two if you're passing by.
M. R.
With visitors from Sydney and Moulon Rouge at 2pm, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the dining room. The lunch package was so good, there was plenty of choice & it was great value.
The booking staff plus the staff in the dining room today were exceptional. Luke looked our table of six so well & he was friendly and professional. Young & Jackson are indeed fortunate to have Luke on their team!
T. J. M.
Fantastic lunch menu! $35 and a glass of wine - excellent service in all respects! Lovely service too….
K.
Excellent customer service, beautiful atmosphere and the food was the best I've had in a long time. Can't wait to come back. My new favourite pub meal. Thank you 😊
B. G.
Not a bad spot for a cheeky beer, $12 for a pint isn’t too bad. On this visit I climbed the stairs and enjoyed the rooftop. It’s a very small area and intimate. It is very enclosed though so more of an “open air” bar then rooftop, but still enjoyable. I get the vibe it would be good for a sneaky drink on a date night or similar. Limited beers on tap, but greater selection downstairs. Male staff member (presume he was the manager) was super friendly.
K. B.
We had a few drinks with friends here to start our night and regretted not booking a table for food. It looked really good and service seemed pretty quick. Loads of space and a good atmosphere.
B. C.
The word iconic is used a lot to describe Y&Js. But it remains a typical Aussie pub in the heart of Melbourne. Such a wonderful place for a quiet beer and to watch the passing parade of the varied and fascinating Melbourne people.
A. E.
This review is only for the burger I had. I’d say the burger patty was quite cold. The bar itself is quite nice, specially upstairs with a famous painting hanging on a wall. We went there for a group lunch. Would recommend if you are looking for an office lunch.
H. M.
Loved this place. Was served by Kirra behind the bar who was just the best and poured the perfect pint :))
B. N.
Grate pub , tram on your doorstep, staff and food good especially the parma's only suggestion a touch dark but it makes a good ambiance.
Every time I've been here sport always on.
N. L.
Lovely pub at the heart of Melbournes' CBD with various floors and bars avilable. Good craft beers the bottom bar at the ground floor is much better stocked with several brews. The pub grub is not bad and the staff are very friendly. The prices are reasonable. The interior is very beautiful and has several areas catering for all tastes.
C. R.
Pilgrimage to see Chloe . A great pub full of charm . Watched on a huge TV screen in Sports bar as Bolland bowl out the Brits 6 for 7 in the Test on Boxing Day 2021. The Ozzie patrons went wild .
J. J.
Best pub without the gambling and won awards for it too. The craft beer wasn't too bad but I'm sure it's more popular with other patrons. Chloe Pale Ale tasted a bit fruity but not as fruity as Matilda beer.

Good place to drink a beer or wine or your favourite spirit with your friends!!! This place offers food if you want eat!!!
R. T.
An historic hotel on the corner of Swanston and Flinders Streets Melbourne housing the famous Cloe painting (which can be found upstairs in the dining room. This Hotel was once owned by the founder of Melbourne “John Batman”. Hot meals are served by friendly staff and you can order reasonably priced dishes from their extensive menu - even Kangaroo. There are great views of the busy intersection in front of Flinders Street Station from the upper levels. The bar is well equipped with many beers on tap.
M. S.
We went in Saturday night with 4 adults and 2 kids.
Food was unbelievably good.10 out of 10!
Tasty old fashioned pub meals that were fresh and priced quite fair. Beautiful period style architecture made for a nice experience inside, while watching busy Flinders st station .Samantha the waitress was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for her.We will be going regularly for meals based on.our experience!
K. A.
Always my go to place to have a drink and eat
M. R. S.
Great old pub famous for the large painting of "Chloe" that hangs upstairs. They even have a craft beer named "Chloe's Ale" which was excellent. Their "Philly Steak" was delicious.
A. F.
Beers were priced not to bad. Good for pre train beers
M. C.
The atmosphere is just brilliant and the staff are incredibly down to earth and friendly. Fantastic food!
C. S.
Iconic Pub opposite Flinders Street Station, great staff, great food.
P. L.
Friday afternoon drinks upstairs in the Chloe Bar was the perfect meet up before going across to Patricia Piccinini exhibition at Flinders St Station
J.
Great pub, best location to sit with ya friend and watch
B. P.
This place is great for drinks with friends as there's two floors and a rooftop bar. There's also a nice restaurant if you want a proper sit down meal.
J. G.
Absolutely love this pub. The history of it is amazing. The staff are great. Will always go back.
C. S.
Had nice drinks but waited an hour for food and the food (burger and chips were both cold)
T. H.
Always a classic atmosphere, footy on the telly, beer in the glass chios on the plate.
C. d.
We stopped in for a cold one after touring the city all day. Nice stop, the place was buzzing with a mixed crowd of after work commuters, locals and tourists. Everyone was very friendly and talkative. The bar had a good selection of beers and a very nice tap system. We have been enjoying White Rabbit Dark Ale since our arrival to Melbourne which this bar does have. But one tap intrigued us. A very large and elaborate copper system for a "Fresh" weekly delivered Carlton beer. The copper looked cold and we were hot. We were not disappointed the beer was cold, wet and tasty! And we were revived for the walk back to the hotel. We didn't eat but the plates coming out looked very good.
N. L.
My wife and I have been coming for several years now and our most recent visit has only reinforced our positive experiences here. Sitting in Chloe's restaurant seated by the window and enjoying a drink is very pleasant. You feel so calm and relaxed as you watch the busy movements of traffic and people at the intersection below.
And the food does not disappoint. There is a pretty wide choice from what is generally a typical pub menu. My eye fillet steak was cooked exactly the way I wanted it. My wife ordered the chicken breast, which turned out be really delicious. There is a good selection of wine and if you don't know what to have you can rely on the friendly, professional and knowledgeable staff to make an appropriate suggestion.
All in all a good experience.
R. R.
Enjoyed the the dinner with ‘Chole’ who from 1875. Good view and atmosphere. Kangaroo meat was a little over cooked.
H. K.
It's probably the best pub in Melbourne. It's over 100 years old, with a roof top bar. Plus 10 different rooms to have a drink or dinner with friends after work. Great service with friendly staff. Go and see Chloe, you won't be disappointed!!!
R. M.
Always good. Check the vax at the door. Good for you. Food, drinks excellent
D.
Very delicious food, very friendly staff, great atmosphere. Young & Jacksons is an icon of Melbourne and definitely worth having a meal and a pint here!
L. Y.
Good atmosphere, great bar, polite staff and a good range of alcohol you can choose from. The only down side is they do not have the best food you can get around town.
이.
I visited the second floor restaurant and enjoyed the meal. Kangaroo tenderloin was soft and delicious. Greek salad was very fresh and the cheese in there was great. Serving lady recommended me a red wine and it went great with the meat. You can also enjoy lovely view of Flinders station after sunset.
T. M.
Its a great bar and has a great feeling and can't argue with tank beer
D. &. K. P.
One of the most iconic pubs in Melbourne located right near Flinders Street Station.
Chloe’s Bar upstairs is worth a visit with a view straight over the busiest intersection in the CBD.
Can get quite busy on weekends but worth a visit to see some history of an old style hotel.
Also serves food both upstairs and downstairs and has live music.
R. M.
Nice ambience with some great pics of Melbourne, of the days gone by. The chicken parma that I ordered was delicious and fresh with the melted cheese on top. The shoestring fries were nice and crispy too. Would visit again.
H. C.
The venue itself is not bad, the food is ok but the parma sizes are small. Quality is not bad but I think the kids Parma is the same size as what we got. The disabled toilet was out of order when we were there. There are plenty worse places around and 3/5 is not too be considered a negative/don't go there, but it's not 5
B. D.
A couple of drinks after work air conditioning excellent great atmosphere
M. E.
I did a fill-in drumming gig here. Its a top pub an icon that has the best live entertainment in town great friendly staff and quick turnover ordering drinks no lengthy queues I had nothing but fun and it was great to play with such talented musos! The DJ here Scott was awesone great mixes kept the dance floor packed all night!
A. B.
Great food great atmosphere and staff top notch!
D. D. L. R.
Went here before Big Bash Cricket at the MCG.Then got a message 3 days later, too get a covid test.
D. W.
Young & Jackson is a wonderful place just to be. A place to step back in time and enjoy an earlier Melbourne, looking at The City's History surrounding You. Staff and Food add to the enjoyment of the experience. Then of course there is Chloe in all of Her Beauty, Australia's Famous Nude Painting. Bringing the Past and the Present completely together in a way that embraces and gently caresses the senses to another time place, making yet more memories and always calling us back for yet another encounter. Thanks Chloe long may You Remain
M. H.
Used to be one of my favourite bars to go dancing, but this band just ruined for me.
At 1am on a Friday night I was expecting exciting music to dance but instead I got a collection of depressing slow songs. Very disappointing.
That’s a very good and professional reply. I appreciate and I will come back.
L. T.
Love me a Guinness.
Toilets are hard to find though.
A. G.
my dearest, most WONDERFUL, MOST BEAUTIFUL Pub ON THIS GOD JESUS - my FATHERGOD's MOST BLESSED, MOST BEAUTIFUL PLANET EARTH, ALELUIA, AMEN! ALELUIA, AMEN! ALELUIA, AMEN!
SHALOM! SHALOM!
M. D.
Great to see them enjoying themselves in the gallery section. Me and my wife got this selfie here
L.
Had the world’s best dinner at Y & J last night, starting with 10 ⭐️ wait service by Brooke and Georgia. They are next level amazing! All the meals were incredible and my chicken gnocchi was so delicious. Without offending my Husband, I’ve never had chicken cooked so beautifully! Cannot wait to return, thanks everyone🙋♀️
L. R.
I have been here many times. This visit my friend who was visiting from Perth & I received our chips with sugar not salt. It was rectified but by the time time the new lot of chips had come out it was on 40 mins. I understand it was a error but 2 hours for a simple steak lunch was not a great experience
K. R.
Great place to hang out right in across the street from Flinders Street station. The lighting and decor gives a vibe of the 1960s and 70s. Food and drinks are not very expensive! The desserts are amazing!
B. Q.
Good beer, quick and friendly service. Great place to duck-in and grab a quick cold one with a mate. Take it outside if the weather's suitable and there's never a dull moment at that intersection! World-watching at its finest!
M. W.
Always been the class act for good food and classic sports talk.
D. P.
The most famous pub in Melbourne, and well worth a visit. Go upstairs to Chloe's Bar and see the well known and very impressive painting. Great beers on tap - my pick is Feral Hop Hog. Great menu too.
F. J.
Great pub, awesome ambience. The walls give out an old Victorian vibe and the upstairs lounge area is quite vibrant too. The Chloe painting is always a pleasure ofcoursee ;)
A. C.
Nice selection of beer and a lot cleaner than last time I was there. Immediately prior to the Boxing Day test so was very busy.
R. S.
Great pub, great meals, fantastic service
J. N.
Good Parma and Melbourne bitter on tap good pub
F. B.
Dropped in to see last quarter of Carlton playing. They won. Great lively atmosphere. Good wine and beer. Excellent location.
M. N.
A convenient location right across from Flinders Street station. Old World decor and charm. Attentive friendly waiters. Food was okay. Food presentation was 4 stars but only 3 stars for taste and flavours. I had the linguini with Tiger prawns. Conveniences could do with some updating. Good view of the streets below if you get a window seat upstairs. The dining area upstairs was clean and didn't reek of fermented hops or other distilled products. Nice floral arrangement.
M. O.
Enjoyed the steak, well made, also liked the view of Flinders Station facade!
L. R.
Cool bar just in front of Flinder's Street station. There's some interesting art inside and they also have a rooftop bar. However, when we went, the rooftop bar didn't have any vacant seats so you may want to make a reservation.
S. W.
Great service on the rooftop bar, staff were all so friendly and helpful. The new QR code menu/order system so easy to use and convenient too
A.
Love the Carlton Draught Tank beer. It is special because it is not pasteurised.
M. F. C.
Not fantastic, service is good, food is alright, with some really special dishes.
J. X.
Busy bar with dinning, opposite Flinders Station, popular venue after footy.
J.
Fast friendly service. Ham cheese tomato toastie and coffee for $10.
D. M.
Go to place for a drink after work/late evening. Plenty of live sport action on screens. Good selection of beers on tap.
A. B.
Melbourne's Central Historic Hotel with a million stories to tell from the heady days of the 6 O'clock swill era to the current late night trading with Live Music or ANZAC Days legendary Two Up ring along side "Chloe" one of Melbourne's most famous paintings
S. H.
Always a great place to catch up with friends for a few beers and great conversation. I notice that the bar staff could do with a hand at certain times and the management that walk past them could give them a hand instead of glaring at them
P. G.
Great place with good views of Flinders Street Station and Fed Square. Children-friendly. Food was delicious, well priced and so were the drinks. The venue itself is clean. Went during Covid, so not many patrons, which was fine by me. Can imagine it would be very busy and packed during non-Covid times.
B. G.
Went here for dinner (upstairs) and the service and food was top quality! I had the chicken breast and it was cooked to perfection, succulent and not dry. My husband had steak which was cooked exactly to his liking.
The service was first class, with the happy wait staff making sure we were looked after. Definitely recommend going upstairs for a meal and drinks and we will absolutely be back again!
D.
Good place for a nice tasting beer
H. F.
Great pub right in the CBD. The calamari was delicious. Service was amazing. Guy with the beard from Liverpool at the upstairs bar was really great. And so we’re the servers working the door.
I. B.
Had to call in & see Chloe, she still looks great
C. M.
Fantastic service in a historic venue that's coping well in this covid era
L. M.
One of my favourite places to go when where in Melbourne really good food fabulous cocktails views over the city towards Fed Square from the windows upstairs in Chloe's
L. T.
1 of Melbourne's iconic pubs good spot to meet up with freinds before you head on out to a game!
J. V.
Vintage heritage of Melbourne is displayed with staff who are well equipped to giving you one of your favourite nights in Melbourne.
S. K.
Definitely my favourite pub in Melbourne. I always go there every time I go to Melbourne cause the beer is good, the food is great and the staff are friendly
N. M.
Great afternoon catching up with mates over lunch
D. R.
Been found for over 150 years and still going strong with Chloe now upstairs in the bar, great atmosphere, staff and the roof top bar is amazing
P. C.
Iconic pub in the heart of Melbourne. A must visit for tourists, & a right of passage for young men to have a drink with Chloe.
D. A.
Its a central Melbourne icon and the beer is always cold.
Just had a great time catching up with a Sydney based friend in Y&J.
Several pints of VB later and the day was memorable.
Great pub fayre menu and prices are reasonable...
M. V.
Always a great vibe in this legendary Melbourne bar
A. C.
I was on the rooftop bar with some friends; wonderful service by female bartender around about 7pm on Saturday the 2nd of jan. very good with recommending drinks and has good customer service. Thankyou for the lovely service :)
B. H.
I used to come here a lot to drink back in the days where I drank too much cuz I didn't know what do do with my life. It was fun...and also not fun at other times, bit mostly due to my own bad choices, lol. Great beer selection in general and nice staff dealing with drunk folks, and it's just a historic place. Rooftop bar is good too, watch the stairs after a few pints though.
I. L. E.
Such close proximity to the station became an exposure point. I think big things are on the way. May everyone be safe.
R. M.
Young bar person was friendly and great service, of course beer was good
S. J.
Great pub. Cold well filtered beer. There is a cosy a
rooftop bar but I love just having a few beers downstairs and plenty of people watching. Gets extremely busy on Friday nights. Food is always good.
B. F.
Decided to take a trip down memory lane and meet some friends at Y&J - a venue I haven't been to for 10 or more years. What a pleasant surprise! We were lucky to get there a little early and snare a table by the window as it quickly filled and within 15 minutes there were no tables at all. After a couple of very tasty beers - highly recommend the summer ale - we ordered from the bar menu. There wasn't a huge range but there was certainly enough choice for the four of us. We ordered burger, lamb stew, ancient grain salad & fish and chips - all tastes catered for. No one complained about serving size; we certainly didn't leave hungry. Service was efficient and friendly (barman even returned to our table with a refund when he realised he had overcharged us - very impressed with the honesty). Only (small) complaint was they had run out of the Eton mess dessert - looks like we'll have to go back another time to try it!
R. G.
I've walked past this pub more times than I care to remember, but never thought about going in as I assumed it was just another dodgy pub. But I was pleasantly surprised when I went here for a work lunch. The food is really good and the service is excellent. We had a table of 14 people in the lounge upstairs, and they assigned to waiters to our table. The food came out together and everyone enjoyed thier meal. The prices we also quite reasonable. I definitely recommend this place, and if you're looking for a more refined menu the Chloe restaurant looks great too, I might try that for dinner one night.
D. L.
I had a meal at the rooftop bar on the 2/12/20 with a couple of friends and was served by a very efficient and pleasant young lady-I think her name was Saffron-we couldn’t have asked for better service-and we will be back again
D. R.
Great for people watching. Good food and service. Keep up the standard because this is one of Melbourne's tourist destinations.
E. G.
Good for drinkers not for food
A. E.
It was a good visit. I hadn't realised how big the venue is. I spent most of the time downstairs having a coffee and beer. Staff were very friendly. However my biggest gripe would be the lack of attention to our table. I constantly had to stand up and ask for service. We were a table of 9. And there was only 3 other customers in the same area. Staff did seem busy with the own things, but I shouldn't have to keep asking for service. Putting that aside 😊 I highly recommend anyone to visit for an ale or coffee. The muffins and brownies are fantastic.
S. a. B. E.
Excellent Covid19 management app table spacing you must book. I love it anytime but was a lovely place to catch up with friends. Be safe dine safely
A. S.
Good food, good service.
D. B.
Great beer on a hot day.
M. H.
Looking this place a lot. I was there to watch the Formula 1 since I got no ticket. And there's locals introduce me how good the place is. They have their own barrels where everyday truck will deliver local made beer. And it's just the taste that you'll never forget. They bar is clean and have great looking food.
A. A. A. C.
Visited this place and it was nice. strategic location, classy place, good beer, nice and cheap coffee..
T. P.
Nice experience was had by all three us on my last trip to Melbourne from Cohuna last week 2nd Dec 2020.
Great food and drinks at the rooftop bar ably headed up to a very good and enthusiastic bar lady 'Saf'.
All staff were helpful and motivated from our arrival till departure.
Thanks

Popped in for a few pints of 'little creatures ale' on a hot, sticky afternoon that really quenched my thirst. Good selection of beers/cider on tap.
Two or three areas on the ground floor, I enjoyed the sports bar with other like minded folks.
R. O.
Nice visit for a quick bite and a few drinks.
A good chardonnay option and quite a good sharing platter though a little heavy on the fried foods. One or two lighter elements would make it sing! Will be back.
V. N.
The best and definitely most iconic feature of this pub is the naked lady painting on the first floor. She glows in that painting. The model of the painting killed herself out of unrequited love, which I do not condone. But the painting itself is great and very well done. You can sit beside it and gaze out at Flinders Station, which is a beautiful building. While the wine selection here is god-awful (according to my friend who works at a bottleshop), it's a nice place to hang out. You're definitely paying for the character. Downstairs, there's another section of the pub in which three large TVs are set right beside each other, each showing a different sport. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting though, smell-wise.
m. n.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff.
D.
Great feel about the place. Great staff, menu and service. I didn't think it was too expensive and the food was appetising. Right opposite Flinders station so perfect meeting point. Really pleased to note; there is a lift available for less mobile customers - your visit will be catered for.
J. B.
As someone from Tassie, Young & Jackson sure impressed! Seeing the copper tank beer setup was impressive and it was nice to learn the history of the place: it's place in Australia's wartime history and the story of the naked woman painting which resides as part of the Heritage Register in Young & Jackson. Staff were incredibly professional and friendly: never had a single problem pop up during my visit and if there had have been one, I have confidence problems would be resolved appropriately. Their meals are great (try the Scotch fillet!) but make sure you come in early since they're quite popular for a reason. Definitely a place to try at least once (and probably keep visiting)!
N. S.
It's a good meeting place and has a good selection of beer.
It can get very busy in the evenings especially on Thursday and Friday nights.
Upstairs it's Chloe's Bar which is an upmarket venue with a lovely ambience and a piece of Melbourne history in the form of a painting named Chloe.
Y. T.
Best photography point towards Flinders!
A. M.
Loved it, good food and beer at the right price in the middle of Melbourne, you might even say it was cheap food for the location.
P. T. S. C.
Two wheelchair accessible doors to the building and a partially accessible bathroom on the ground floor. All inaccessible ones are gendered, with the women's having stairs to get to.
The upstairs dining area is wheelchair accessible, but the bar area is not with tables too high and four steps to the low seats that are actually usable.
There is a rooftop bar and smoking area up another flight of stairs, which there is no lift to.
j. h.
The location is still a great place.for an event. Staff were great and the food was delicious and came together in our reasonably sized group
K. D.
The thing that makes this place stand out is the fantastic service provided. The staff were friendly and welcoming, happy to have a quick chat while ordering your food. The food was great and the serving size was reasonable for the given price. Defenitely a place I'll visit again whist in Melbourne, especially given the close proximity to federation square!
R. F.
As an interstate visitor I was pleasantly surprised... I would consider this a touristy pub and I was reluctant to go but we went for lunch and the meals were good, the range of beers were good and the prices were reasonable (maybe a little high on the beer front). Personally I had the salmon which was very good, and the only failure around the table was that the buffalo wings looked unappetising but I'm told we're tasty nonetheless. I'm sure there are better places to go, but given the touristy nature of the surrounds, I would certainly not say you should avoid it.
L. M.
Great for Melbourne after lockdown city of the world
E. G.
One of the classical figures of Melbourne, it’s a well preserved building that is run as a cafe now. The choices are limited for breakfast, yet the atmosphere and the service is enjoyable. Teas and toasties are better than the average, recommended!
G.
We have been on the rooftop bar, relaxing ambiance nice atmosphere. The guy at the bar was very kind
L. P. C.
Went in on a Sunday at approx 6:30 and had a lovely Amber ale while I jotted down a few ideas into my pad. Service is great. At times a bit pushy (I got asked 5 times if I wanted another drink) but all in all, good service.
M. F.
We got there after 10pm and the upstairs was closed, but the staff still let us visit Chloe for a photo. Great beer on tap! It’s a must visit if you’re in Melbourne.
S. T.
old school pub at next to Flinder's Street Station serving pub food and good beers on tap. More fun to sit downstairs (ground level) when there is a footy game that afternoon/evening. It gets really rowdy and loud.
Or go upstairs and visit a painting of Chloe and have a nice meal or a few drinks by the bar. Overall a cool vibe.
Q. L.
Ho hum bar at a busy intersection. Attended with a group of 6 for drinks 5pm on a Friday. Downstairs had happy hour, but in the Chloe bar where we were, no such luck, and slim range of on tap beers. Good rendezvous place, then move on elsewhere
I. L.
Love the history but drop your beer prices. Was also turned away from ordering from the lunch menu because it was 20 minutes too early. Great way to lose business. By the time it was cooked and served it would've been 12. 😂
J. C.
We went here after seeing the House of Dior show and it made for a fabulous finale. The food was fantastic, see my tuna loin meal in the photos. Its a little pricier here, but you definitely get what you pay for. And the meals are a reasonable size, not dainty fine dining sizes.

Good traditional pub food. Went in with a large group and had a bunch of people pull out last minute which meant that we had to still pay for about the additional meals that we weren't going to use, so we ordered some of the additional dishes to get a taste of them all. Food was pretty average to be honest, e.g. no option other than medium for the steak (I guess that's what you get in bulk). It might be better for just a couple of people instead.

Amazing service for a pub in the melbourne cbd. Particularly by the bartender with the beard. Amazing drinks and food near flinders street. If you’re out and about in Flinders st, Melbourne, check it out
T. P.
An elgant slice of Melbourne history. Make sure you have a drink with Chloe, the famous naked lady portrait in the upstairs bar. You can have an express dinner in Chloe's dinning room between 5.30 to 6.30pm: bread, choice of main course, a small sweet treat and a choice of wine, a beer or cider and tea or coffee at the end of your meal all for $34 per person. All served in an elegant dinning room. Incredible value to dine in style for a truly unique Melbourne experience.

Young & Jackson is a decent pub in a super convenient location. I went to a comedy festival show in one of the rooms upstairs and it was excellent. The room had a gorgeous view of Flinders Street Station. They have a good range of drinks and the staff are friendly and helpful.
M. B.
Was surprised to find there were plenty of tables available in the restaurant of this famous location at 9pm on a Friday night - perfect for a group dinner after drinks. We were all hungry for steak - unfortunately the only choice is a strip steak - not my favourite cut - which comes with mushrooms, spinach and chips at a price of $40. Share a bottle of wine, add a dessert and a glass of port, and the price per person came to more than $80. Good thing the service was impeccable!
G. L.
Good service. Shocking chicken schnitzel.
L. C.
This historic pub is always a winner. It has 5 bars and a restaurant all with a different atmosphere from cocktails to sports bar. There's always a large selection of craft beer which is my personal preference.
C. C.
A great place to catch up for a drink in this iconic well loved pub. Be sure to pop upstairs to view the famous Chloe painting if you're a tourist. A good selection of alcoholic and also basic non-alcoholic beverages.
J. C.
The pub everyone knows ! If you have not been, or don't know it, I recommend you go check it out, defiantly one of my favourites
j. s.
Lovely meal and drinks
just across the road from Flinders Station.
M. W.
A bit crowded but still an iconic Melbourne pub def worth a visit.
T. R.
Took two friends visiting from UK as we had always had good experiences there before. Food was good as usual....but hopeless waiting staff. Slow to clear plates from tables. At least 2 tables with no customers piled up with dirty plates and another occupied near us not cleared either. No interaction from staff to ask if meal was ok or if we wanted dessert. When we went to bar to enquire after dessert, where 2 waitresses were stood drinking coffee, we were told we had just missed the kitchen. So we left and spent our dessert money elsewhere. Incidentally we visited the ladies restroom before leaving, lovely fresh flowers but no soap in any of the dispensers and large bin overflowing paper towels all over the floor. A big let down.
M. S.
Iconic old pub across the road from Flinders Street station. Great for drinks before or after one of Melbourne's many sporting events or, as was my case, a lazy afternoon in the bar catching up with an old friend I had not seen in many years.
C. G.
Good fun late at night. Decent beer, fun bands typically doing covers. Not high class but fun because of it. Not pretentious and just a good place to catch up with friends for a drink and a chat.
K. I.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great atmosphere. And best of all live music indoors and do close to Flinders Street station . Oh and the beer was pretty awesome too😀
R. P.
Great meals and great beer
Disappointed that my fav beer no longer on tap but found a very nice alternative. Had the roast meal, sooo delicious and worthy of a higher star recommendation, special mention for the potato bake with rosemary. Staff very friendly and helpful, definitely worth the price and effort
J. W.
Just fabulous lunch today at Young and Jackson. Would also like to mention the fabulous service received from Brooke couldn't have been better
M. T. C.
Great space for a beer or three while shopping or touristing away a Saturday afternoon near Flinders Station / Federation Square. Friendly staff, a good range of beers on tap, and a comfortable venue in the bargain. If you're visiting from out of town and want the Old School Melbourne experience, be sure to check out Y&J.
j. s.
Classic location and old pub. The food was good with easy set menu. Chloe is bigger than I remembered. A great place to meet after work before catching train home with friends or colleagues who live anywhere.
F. a.
Young and Jackson is conveniently located and easily accessible. It offers a welcomed break from the crowded streets outside. The food servings are very generous and the prices are accessible. A busy place on a weekend day but a good pick for a quick meal. Make sure you are hungry when you order a main meal.
J. M.
A classic good pub with style.
It's been a classic go-to Pub in Melbourne for years. For me, it's still one of those old classic pub environments without it being too classy like a lot of the new pubs in Melbourne. Meals are a great price and good quality and size, 4 areas of the pub with a restaurant upstairs and 3 areas downstairs. One of the downstairs areas has room for the Friday and it Saturday night live band which rocks the place. Great atmosphere and the easiest location to get to if you're training it, traming it or by car. Right on the corner of Flinders and Swanson sts. Drop in for a cold drink when you're nearby. Love this place.!
G. K.
Always a great place to chill
D.
Steak toasted sandwich was bit too tough to eat so had to resort to knife and fork sometimes. Consider slicing up the steak to make it easier to eat. This is a place where there’s not much customer service at the restaurant so don’t expect too much as it’s self service (I.e order at the bar; help yourself to water etc)
H. E.
It's a bit pricier than I expected. The food was good but nothing special and although the beer is good it's totally over-priced. As for the place's condition I can only say- don't be fooled by the great outdoor look. The place isn't kept really well, sticky floors, dirty toilets - the whole package. All in all I like it just fine but won't be visiting again.
J. K. S.
First entry has a classic Aussie pub vibe. It’s usually packed on a weekend afternoon if your looking to escape the crowds head up stairs to level two where the painting of Chloe is. They also have a Chloe Pale Ale brewed locally. The hops is strong but the flavour is an experience in its self.
L. F.
This pub is the go-to place for anyone visiting Melbourne and wants to meet up with someone. It is full of our of towners having a good time and a good drink! It's probably one of the closest pubs to the MCG and the other grounds on the CBD side. I'd go not having a lot of expectations and be pleasantly surprised!
C. W.
Where I meet my husband for a drink when I finish work. Great for people watching or sports. Home of 'Chloe' the famous piece of art upstairs. Check it out if you're in the city. Only 4 stars because the staff are hit and miss. Mostly hit 👌 Sometimes they are on the ball and sometimes not so but that's no reason to not visit a great bar. Some day I'll eat in there!
A. M.
The food is quite nice and the atmosphere is lovely. However we did have to ask a very rude supervisor/duty manager guy to stop swearing in front of our kids. Definitely a let down when the rest of the staff were lovely and clearly embarrassed. We have eaten here three times and always observed the chefs at the pass to be cool under pressure, maybe this guy (I believe his name was Sebastion?) could learn a thing or two.
R. C.
Good food, nice restaurant and bar area, cosy interior and a good location are the things going for this place. The service and prices are the things going against it.
Would recommend if you're a Woolworths or ALH team member, you get up to 50% off food and drink!
N. T.
Great place for a beer and a meal. We went as a group and just shared a heap on entrees before we went to our next stop.
All were pretty good!
C. B.
Trading on the reputation of a painting, tired decor and an unexciting beer selection. Were thinking of eating here but changed our minds when we saw how some of it came out for other customers.
B. L.
It was good to sit in a great melbourne icon 30 years later since ive been here. I sat with my sons and we had s great time (nice atmosphere ) I hope they can sit here in another 30 years .keep it going :)
S. J.
Good bar snacks and view over the busy Melbourne streets. Seating comfortable. Only issue was smoking is allowed out on the balcony, so this made it a no go zone for us. Which was disappointing.
J. L.
A bit sparse and grubby. One of the staff were a bit weird, listing beers they didn't have rather than what they did. But it's wide beer range reasonably priced for its location
A. B. C.
Cool staff - go see Chloe the painting if you're new in town!
M. G.
Loved it. I fulfilled a personal dream of making the pilgrimage to see the beautiful original Chloe painting done in i875 by a famous French painter. She's been in the Young & Jackson pub for 110 years.
I had a Chloe's Pale Ale and shared a cheese platter too. 😊
F.
Iconic bar in the heart of Melbourne- great atmosphere on Anzac Day and good variety in offerings for food and drinks. The cosy & traditional decor makes for good first stop for a bar crawl to the footy or post work drink. Ensure you see the famous Chloe portrait too!
J. C.
My first stop whenever i fly into melbourne before i have to catch the train to the outer suburbs.
Always got a decent selection of beers on tap, and staff are helpful when you're stuck dor a decision.
I love the leather seats I the back bar, but haven't been upstairs in years.
D. A.
Ordered breakfast about 10:00. By the time it came out it was nearly lunch time. Yes, there were 6 of us but still, shouldn't have taken so long. Once it did arrive though, it was good. Goat's curd scrambled eggs? Bring me more of that.
P.
I LOVE this pub. Live music😍
E. T.
Not the hippest or fanciest of pubs but good to have a venue in the city which isn't run by a bunch of template hipsters. Average food slightly over priced food and bored looking staff.
S. W.
Great place and awesome staff. 👍😁 Great selection of drinks. 👍😁
C. H.
If you're in the neighborhood, drop by for a pint and pub grub in a historic location. It's not fine dining, but you'll have fun. The local crowd can get a bit rowdy as the evening goes and the pints are poured, but nothing too serious.
Want haute couture? Go somewhere else. Want a classic English style pub in a fun city with a little local color? Stop in and have one.
G. C.
What a Pub. Nice music, food and location.
I.
Great place to stop in for a pint before catching the train home from the city.
Always friendly service and all round great vibe.
A pint of Carlton Draught from the big copper tanks is a must!
I just wish I could get one of the good seats next to the window facing the station for once haha
l. r.
Hey fantastic iconic pub on the corner of flinders & swanston. Ova the road from flinders station. Great service drinks food grab a seat & watch the world go by. Great for meeting interesting & famous people. Enjoy lizzee
I.
A Melbourne icon for a very good reason! Always a great selection of beer on tap, good wine list, and high quality food. Can be very busy, but always has a great vibe.
R. J.
Iconic and true to form Melbourne pub. can get busy and the service is average at best. It great and lace to stop and experience the local culture. Chloe's upstairs is normally a bit quieter.
S. W. C.
Young & Jackson's is an Australian iconic pub. On the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets right in centre of Melbourne. It conveniently located opposite Flinders Street Train Station which makes it a perfect pit-stop on the way home. The beer choice is solid, although I wish they would feature more beer from local Melbourne breweries.
Upstairs at Chloe's Bar is home to one of Australia's most famous paintings, Chloe.
R. G.
Pretty typical local pub in Melbourne CBD. If you’ve lived in Melbourne long enough then you’ve been to young and Jackson. Pretty typical drinks menu - wine list is a bit sparse and the floors, tables and chairs are always a bit sticky but it’s tolerable.
K. E.
Love this place. Traditional pub downstairs. Chloes bar upstairs and rooftop cider bar. Very popular. Great craft beers. Great place for both tourists and locals.
R. S.
Fabulous go to pub for us each time we visit Melbourne. Have introduced friends to same who have also greatly enjoyed. Great food, venue and central location.
C. D.
Legendary venue in the heart of Melbourne. Fantastic band 'No Dramas' bring the crowd alive with their mix of iconic favorites that everybody know Going to be heading NthShine soonish Catch on the way. Will back packer's back packer's when omwn sing/chant along as they dance. Amongst the crowd are regular or frequent patrons interspersed with many kinds, international back packer's and tourists, others from interstate or rural areas, some visiting for family or medical appointments. Top notch security personnel ensure everybody has the same intent.......to have a good time.
#.
Average & uninspired service.
Chips had no life to them & the side salad with the chicken parma was plain.
Pick up your act guys.
L. M.
The YJ has a special place in my heart because it was the first bar I ever went to in Melbourne. Since then... I've seen them get pretty rough with people (including myself!) This a good place to have maybe one or two beers, but drink more than that and there's a VERY good chance you will get kicked out... They DO NOT mess around.
E. M.
Terrific location and lovely atmosphere for our bar meals. Good, varied menu and fab service (very friendly & helpful).
G. Y.
Love the home brewed beer here as it's very unique and the bar/lounge area on the first floor is just cosy, rustic and in style. The bar are on the ground floor however is a bit rowdy especially some of its patrons on fri/sat nights.
Nevertheless, I have brought my visitors from abroad to this place many times over the year and I have been receiving good feedbacks!
J. L.
A must for every visit to Melbourne if for no other reason but to check in our Chloe. Staff friendly. Always busy. Rooftop bar allows smoking and is quite ambient.
Only fault in the joint is it is hard to find toilets. Last visit (yesterday), while seeking the gents, I bumped into 2 others doing the same. First world problem and doesn’t affect the rating.
Would go out of my way for a beer at this establishment.
T. W.
Good vibe, reasonable prices
D. H.
Central location, lots of options inside with different bars for different tastes, from loud and crowded to quiet lounge. Rooftop Bar is nice, but always full of smokers, so if you're trying to avoid that there's nowhere to hide up there.
K. C.
THE most iconic Melbourne pub right in the ♥️ of Melbourne’s CBD!
Just opposite the ever gorgeous Flinders Street station & u can’t get anymore “iconic Melbourne” than that folks!
But it doesn’t matter if your a local or a visitor to this fine city... All ya need to do is just get on the train & be ready to jump off @ Flinders St! Then head on over to Young & Jackson’s - Cos it’s right on the corner of Flinders & Swanston Street - but u can grab a meal here or just enjoy a beer or 3 with ya mates! Either is cool - but Y&J is just one of those pubs really! It’s small but quite a classic little pub! & I think it has one of the coolest “real Melbourne food culture” atmospheres goin around - if ur looking to experience that sorta thing... & it’s not gonna break ur budget! Reasonable prices!
Finally though, I should mention “Chloe”... Cos she’s the pub’s only “permanent resident”! & since ur there - if u didn’t ask about Chloe... Then u would be wasting an opportunity! Cos she is just a lovely little minx... maybe a bit naughty too😉 But she happens to be one of the oldest attractions that still exist in old Melbourne town.. So she deserves her status as a bloody iconic Sheila - if ever there was one!
Anyway - I raise my glass & say “cheers to Young & Jackson”! 5 stars!
G. B.
Was recently on the rooftop during a scorcher of a day, and was given some amazing professional and friendly service by Ash. A very good asset to the business, and will return again as a result!
D. H.
It's A great Pub full of ordinary people. Staff friendly a special place to visit because of its history. Not up market or pretentious, very comfortable place to visit.
P. D.
Did not know the Y&Js is open for coffee early in the morning. the front bar is now a place to grab a coffee and have a chat with friends before the day starts. Also you can still have a quick look around at one of the oldest pubs in Victoria.
P. L.
Young and Jackson's: first time visitor, ventured upstairs to the fabulous Chloe's dining and enjoyed flavoursome ales, a correctly cooked, well done juicy steak and fabulous service from the staff, including the bar young lady who looked beautiful in her 'ugly' fundraising shirt.
D. H.
Downstairs is alright, 2nd floor is the best, the rooftop is cider focused? Like why? But anyways good place to meet the squad before heading out.
K. F. H.
Historic place and the food is good.
M. M.
Awesome friendly service, good food & great view of Flinders Street Station
T. M.
History and location. Love Chloe's bar. It's a nice place to relax over a drink and nibbles. Can be hard to find a seat as it's so popular.
K. B.
Our first beer in Australia. Nice place, good beers.
K. M.
We were told there was artifacts here from the digging in swanston street. As you enter the pub, the artifacts are displained behind glass. Very interesting to see the old bottles etc. It's worth a stop to see. Pub itself was busy with customers
L. G.
Food always excellent as well as great service but the best thing is the quiet chilled out atmosphere of the dining room you can hear the conversation!
D. P.
The manager was childish and stormed off infront of wait staff and customers at the bar on the second floor. It doesnt matter if your staff are being difficult (which the person you became angry at was just trying to help with a slow customer).
Excellent wait staff were extremely helpfull with our table and apologised for the manager. They were good to talk to and were overall excellent would have given 5 stars.
good bruschetta and parma (i can get a parma for less than half the price at QB).
R. W.
Nice beer range, big cider range (on tap on top floor beer garden) nice food. We sat at 1st floor. It wasn't crowded and noisy.
J. R.
Went to Young & Jackson's to have a couple of beers with a friend. I hardly recommend the rooftop cider bar to all of you who are wondering if they had to visit the place. Absolutely worth the try.
A. W.
Fantastic service, we felt so welcome. Food was perfect and the bar staff are top notch especially the cute English guy with the beard ♥️
K. J.
Great meal for my friends birthday, Staff were friendly, the area was clean. The meals were not big servings and took awhile for all the meal to be served as there's only a small kitchen but was a great day
R. T.
After a long walk around the city, my son and I decided to call into Young & Jacksons for a cool refreshing drink and lunch, we both ordered rump steak and it tasted fantastic, this pub is an iconic landmark in Melbourne and famous for the picture of "Chloe"
R. R.
English pub in the heart of Melbourne CBD, exactly opposite the Flinders street station. Good selection of ales and beers. Good place for a catch up with your mates or even as tourists!
A. C.
Great food, staff are very polite.
R. J.
My favorite place for a beer in Melbourne right across road from flinders station . sport bar can be noise, lounge bar was quite and the fist place I had a beer with my daughter , good times and great place
🤗🤗
S. F. E.
Maybe just different than we are used to, but the burger was chewy, there was ice in the orange juice and the spring rolls were not that good either. Fast service and nice ambiance.
L. B.
The place is awesome. I especially like the whole selection of different beers - seasonal or limited brews - I want to try them all so I am going back for sure. Also the service is excellent.
L. T.
A decent bar. Pretty basic but has a good selection of beers. The downside is that it can be absolutely packed Fri and sat thanks to its location.
L.
Well designed menu exploring Australian and Mediterranean ingredients with a hearty wine selection. Service was exceptional.
A. D.
Had to drop into Y&J's for a drink and a light snack. Well the beer was cold but the light snack was sooo light it was almost non existent. Very poor offering!
A. W.
Downstairs is a rather typical Melbourne pub, complete with sticky floors and crappy music. But upstairs there's a cider bar with a dozen different ciders (and a couple of beers) on tap. Right across from Flinders St station, it's easy to get to, and (more importantly) home, via public transport.
N. W.
Great night food was good and came out quickly. Staff very friendly 😁👍
G. H.
A great position from table by the window overlooking Finders Street Station . (Upstairs) Enjoy a drink and nibblies. Home to infamous painting of "Chloe" . A must visit after shopping in Melbourne CBD. Has craft beers on tap which change regularly with always friendly helpful staff happy to take a memory photo of you .
C. C.
Was a bit quiet due to current circumstances but was delighted to see Chloe after some 30 years since my last visit. Super friendly staff.
J. T.
Great place for a meal at affordable prices. Loved the staff interaction and respect to myself and other customers. Great service. Can't wait to go there again.
l. b.
Dropped into Young and Jackson's for a drink with friends. They had guinness on tap and prompt service. There were many large screen TV's in the ground floor bars with AFL football being displayed. There is a very smart brightly lit restaurant at the front on Swanston Street. They have a disability toilet at the back of the bar. Chloe the painting is on the first level. Something to tick off your list when visiting Melbourne. Across the road from Flinders Street station.
A. F.
First visit here serves great pub food delicious, well worth a visit. Its next to Flinder's Street Station. Upstairs is the famous painting of Chloe!
L. F. W.
A classic icon of Melbourne that offers something for everyone; a cafe/casual restaurant downstairs, a bustling bar and subdued restaurant upstairs (with the famous Chloe), and a fun filled cider bar on the rooftop. A great spot to meet friends and relax.
H.
Great city centre pub with friendly and helpful staff.
S. W.
Traditional meeting place for interstate footy visitors, good range of beers and the gorgeous Chloe waiting upstairs - the perfect pub.
D. H.
Good atmosphere on rooftop bar area, small area but good bar and service. No view of the city.
D. Q.
Meal was delicious, staff were very helpful and pleasant.
S. J. (.
Family friendly dinning, love the spinaxh and feta crepes with napoli sauce, partner had chicken parma and 2 pancakes, and kids had bacon egg pancakes, inlaws had the scotch fillet steak w/ pancakes and the country chicken w/ pancakes
E. j.
Friendly and helpful staff. Convenient location. Lovely selection of Gin's at a reasonable price. Delicious food bursting with flavour.
H. D.
Food and service was great. Prices very reasonable and we used our Entertainment Card for extra discount. Menu in the upper restaurant was a bit limited
S. N.
i thoroughly enjoyed this place. live music started at 11pm place had a real good vibe. Brilliant band great location opposite the train station
P. L.
Excellent Food, very tasty, really good service. Nice venue. Had meal downstairs in the pub. Great quality.
V. M.
Came here for a casual drink in the bar downstairs around 10pm on a Thursday night.
The place was reasonably lively with a decent selection of tap beers.
D. G.
A great pub and a sensational meal, should be on everyone's list to visit!
P. N.
Great atmosphere, especially at 7am for a morning coffee! Also, the coffee here is cheaper yet of a better quality than other places around :)
C. B.
Great craft beer selection, excellent food and good service! Biggest fish and chips I have ever seen!
J. C.
Nice dinner, comfort pub food - great service. However you have a fun night here - usually music and football atmosphere.
M. A.
Sampler plate was fantastic. Overall, the service was a little slow. But, there was a Union protest the day we were there. So, there was a large number of folks in town.
C. Y.
We're filthy New South Welshmen and women and yet they had rugby ball on the TV so that's pretty sick. Also big shout out to our main man Sebastian who went at least 7 extra miles to see if the coleslaw was vegan so I could steal some from my friends parmy meal. (She said it was "PRETTY GROUSE AY").
C. B.
Traditional pub. A bit crowded and noisy on a Friday evening but good atmosphere. Guinness properly poured so nice and creamy.
L. B. G.
Forget the car as this old pub is directly opposite flinders st train station. A very convenient meeting point in the heart of our beautiful city..
A stella pub with many boutique beers on tap, nice cafe, and don't forget to check out the rooftop beer garden! They have great bands and a thriving night life.
You can sample some home brewed beer that are very unique and or relax in the bar/lounge area on the first floor in a cosy, rustic environment. The main bar are on the ground floor can get a little noisy especially on friday /sat nights.
Over the decades I have meet up with many friends at this iconic melbourne location and will continue to do so!
Ps The toilets can be a little hit or miss
C. S.
Good spot to drink on Swanston. Good location and view. Can get busy after dark on Fridays and Saturdays. Also especially busy after the footy at MCG and gets big crowds. Decent price and selection.
s. a.
Young and Jackson is one of my favourite bar around flinders street. Good location, chilled beer, friendly staff and heritage building are few of the qualities of Y & J
k. V.
Great service and delicious foods as always 😀
J. W.
The coffee is really good, worth a stop over, go upstairs and have a drink as a good stop over, the restaurant area has a great seafood option, totally worth a try. Enjoy.
K. A.
Large bar and restaurant with lots of levels and lots of options. It's really 4 bars and 2 restaurants it seems. Try and get the 2 person corner window seat on the first floor in the afternoon for a drink, and marvel at all the people crossing the intersection.
L. G.
Great old building. Very noisy when we were there so if you don't like a loud place then this isn't for you. Loved the food and service
M. B.
So good. Friendly staff. Great drink selection. Amazing food. Clean and tidy facilities.
K. C.
Got the chance to attend a Moét Chandon & Dom Perignon tasting, run by BWS, for team members. The room used in Chloe's bar was perfect.
The big thing that a lot of people don't realise is that the attached bottleshop is an unbranded BWS, so Rewards card work there, letting you get the same specials like you would at a regular BWS
K. J.
We have returned to this familiar plce, but what is with Australian barristas putting powdered chocolate on every hot drink. even in Italy they ask if you want chocolate. Y & j's your staff should ask the customer it only takes a question and is cheaper than having t make another one.
C. S.
Went here for happy hour after visited Brighton beach to cool down the heat. And i really like the Ginger beer.
S. J.
Good bar snacks and view over the busy Melbourne streets. Seating comfortable. Only issue was smoking is allowed out on the balcony, so this made it a no go zone for us. Which was disappointing.
C. W.
Where I meet my husband for a drink when I finish work. Great for people watching or sports. Home of 'Chloe' the famous piece of art upstairs. Check it out if you're in the city. Only 4 stars because the staff are hit and miss. Mostly hit …
N. B.
Homely feeling with sport on the big screen. The best location and friendly staff every time
L. M.
The YJ has a special place in my heart because it was the first bar I ever went to in Melbourne. Since then... I've seen them get pretty rough with people (including myself!) This a good place to have maybe one or two beers, but drink more than that and there's a VERY good chance you will get kicked out... They DO NOT mess around.
f. m.
Old tired pub.
M. G.
Great friendly service and very reasonably priced considering the fantastic location
I. L.
Love the history but drop your beer prices. Was also turned away from ordering from the lunch menu because it was 20 minutes too early. Great way to lose business. By the time it was cooked and served it would've been 12. 😂
L. M.
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night upstairs. Really nice, great service and an excellent price particulalry for its location.
D. K.
Good traditional pub food. Went in with a large group and had a bunch of people pull out last minute which meant that we had to still pay for about the additional meals that we weren't going to use, so we ordered some of the additional …
D. R.
Yes it has a famous painting on show and it's a famous pub and it's in a great location - that makes it a good pub l vist each time l am in Melbourne - well worth a visit.
M. T.
Live music, Rock classics. Close to everything. Nice beers on tap. What more could you ask for. Not many traditional pubs left.
R. S.
Friendly staff. Great atmospheric conditions. Awesome beer. Chloe is looking better than ever before.
S. M. #. I. R.
Always good vibes here! A good old pub that serves the coldest beers on Flinders Street! Located directly across from Flinders Street Station.
R. S.
Had a couple of yummy peach iced tea slushys on the rooftop, then lunch on the second floor. Great chicken snitchzel.
P. H.
Great location. Hostoric pub in Melbourne with traditional pub meals on the ground floor and finer dining upstairs in the Chloe room.
L. C.
Great night out, the cider was the best I've had. 1 man band was terrific. Definitely going back.
P. B.
Anywhere with great service and Carlton Draught tanks deserves 5 stars
D. O.
One of our favourite Melbourne pubs. An institution with a great range of beers but can be a bit noisy.
A. M.
Historical heritage pub in front of Flinders street station. Splendid views over the statio and part of Federation Square. Beatiful painting on first floor. Smoking area on the rooftop (without views).
A must go.
A. K.
Lovely Guinness served here, great atmosphere and nice staff, great place to pop in for a pint or two, it's what you would call a proper pub!
N. Z.
Beautiful pub meal. Will certainly be back.
D. L. (. M.
The bartender was really lovely and warm! Just popped in for a quick drink (really refreshing) , but really enjoyed the atmosphere!
M. O.
favourite pub of all time.. excellent range of beer and cider, guinness always on point, well priced meals and of course chloe!
C.
Warm vibes, perfectly located and unfortunately overpriced beer but its worth the price for the spot, hopefully they have some more dark beers on tap in future
G. D. D.
Great to visit and have a munch and beers
B. P.
This is a great iconic pub to have dinner or just a casual drink after work or the football. And of course the home of the classic picture of the famous CHLOE.
B. C.
I love the history this bar offers. Every time I come to Melbourne, I visit Cloe. Young soldiers did before leaving home to fight in the wars.

Great pub and great location opposite Flinders Street station and Federation Square. A must is to go upstairs and visit the famous picture of "Chloe"...beautiful!
a. T.
amidst all the mayhem of closed footpaths down Flinders street while the new metro tunnel is being built, u can still go to Young & Jacksons for a pint. downstairs is for the punters, If you want a a classy experience head straight upstairs and have a cocktail beside the famous "Chloe" painting and if you're a history fan, google soldiers of WW1 who wrote poems whilst in the trenches, about their undying love for the girl in the painting they had a chance to see in Melbourne before they went off to war.

Bouncer is obviously off his head

Good selection of beers. 4 bars and a restaraunt. Reasonable priced food and drinks. Has improved from years past.

No trip to Melbourne is complete without a visit to the cider bar. Great atmosphere and so many delicious ciders!
B. R.
I love the place but the best spot is the rooftop bar, which is also the smokers area. It is a shame that the best locations always go to the people sinking up the place
F. W.
Bartender was excited and helpful with beer recommendations
J. D.
Great beer and great atmosphere, one of the best places in Melbourne. Long may it last.
J. L.
Excellent experience, friendly staff were very accommodating and food servings were at a good size! Lunch went smoothly with no issues

The mighty has fallen here with public works smashing the once great Melbourne icon.Dated and falling apart .People used to line up to get in this pub 3 nights a week.Hopefully when the Metro transport works are finished(5 yrs)this pub will be back.
A. C.
Great city bar for any time of the day. Good food options on multiple levels and there's often live music in the front bar.
K. W.
Such an iconic pub. Roof top bar nothing to rave about. Much rather be downstairs for a quiet drink.
L. M.
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night upstairs. Really nice, great service and an excellent price particulalry for its location.
B. P.
Done new year's eve here last 2 years. Great spot for watching the fireworks and the incredible crowds that just keep pouring into the area for the nye spectacle
A. M. P.
Great pub. Amazing inside if you like heritage style.
L. J.
Classic pub, but a schooner is a sweet spot between pot and pint, they really should serve them
D. B.
Nice Carlton fresh, good atmosphere and Chloe is devine!

Only went to the bar (for drinks before The Project at Ch10 studios). Can recommend the Leaver & Vine 2015 Cab Sav and 2017 Shiraz.
K. L.
Probably the most famous pub in Melbourne. A bit too "touristy" for my taste. Have at least one beer there.
R. M.
Simple food, reasonably priced, friendly staff. Great atmosphere and I love the Choes Pale Ale on tap
D. H.
The back bar is a great place for a pint. Guiness on tap and good music, excellent.
A. W.
Front ground level corner is now a cafe! Better meeting place than under the clocks at Flinders St. STN.
K. M.
Beautiful breakfasts. Excellent food, I'll always be adding feta to scrambled eggs now.
E. J.
Always a solid choice for a beer in the city!
G. J.
Very handy city centre location.
Decent beer selection.
Can usually get a chat at the bar.
Can get very busy.
J. B.
Great atmosphere although it would be good if they had a ramp for wheelchair access to the top bar, upstairs
j. a.
Good pub ,not modern.
J. E.
Great pub right in the heart of Melbourne. Roof top bar if great on warm days.
A.

Old pub, good beer, sports tv, sticky carpet - there IS a great restaurant and excellent rooftop bar
It's a starter and a finisher pub ☺️
M. J. C.
I came here with some of my friends to get some coffee after lunch. I have a wonderful view sipping coffee while watching people crossing from and to Flinders train station
J. S.
This is one of my favourite bars to visit in Melbourne - as in I will always have a beer here when I’m in Melbourne, great location and comfortable layout,
N. A.
Place can feel a little seedy at night time. Still a decent pub though.

Great venue. Bar staff were a either under manned or a bit slow. Had to wait for beer.
J. U.
When in Melbourne why not enjoy a beer in an iconic establishment ... even the piledrivers working on the Met tunnel added to the ambiance.
C. C.
Enjoy the roof top, and the front bar is nice (when there isn't a Melb based game on) Staff have always been easy going and friendly.
S. U.
Great pub atmosphere and awesome place to grab a beer before heading to the train.
W. B.
This place is not my scene however staff are very prompt in serving drinks. Everyone in the venue seemed to enjoy the band and dj.
J. F.
Came in to use the bathroom, There are two sinks in the men's room, one lower for persons in wheelchairs, one higher for persons not in wheelchairs. The taller one has an entire raw chicken impaled on the tap. I got sick after lapping up the water that oozed out from the chicken's pores.
K. L.
Geat place. Covd safe. Food excellent
N. W.
Great friendly staff, good food, and surprisingly not overcrowded for a Melbourne icon in the heart of the city.
J. J.
Great beer, good vibe. Don't plan on having a drink on the roof, full of smokers couldn't breathe 😷
