Comments of The Royal on the Waterfront
i. k.
Good service nice food beautiful view thanks. Chicken parmi was juicy and yummy. Oysters so fresh. Calamari was yummy too but wish it was served a bit more.
J. V.
Not for me. Because they don't even have fresh juice nor tea or coffee. Don't like the mocktail. But the Barramundi was 10/10, really good. The dessert were nice but too sweet for me. Parking is not easy and expensive on Wilson. Spend $24 for 4 hours parking. Staff were friendly.
M. T.
We were hosted by Charlotte who took care of us very well. Every dish was on the point. The appetizer, cauliflower fritter and calamari were perfectly golden brown/crisp. We had steak, burger, snapper and pasta for mains which also were exactly the way we requested. We finished off with the poached pear which gave the meal the perfect finale. Oh the mocktail was great too! Overall, a perfect experience, by the water. Highly recommended.

Great place for a get together. Nice setting, great food and bar staff, not keen on having to prove I'm adult enough to have tequila without getting smashed, duty of care I suppose, but still... a tad frustrating when you have to argue to get one when you have spent 1200 on alcohol alone. 🤷♀️Still worth 5 stars though, great place, great night

Had a wonderful afternoon at The Royal for an end of year work function.
The many shared plate food selections we had were tasty and fresh.
Has a great selection of beers an wines.
Service was excellent.
I'll definitely be back. Recommended.

I so enjoy The Royal on The Waterfront. It's located on the Swan River in East Perth among many other restaurants, cafe's and business's. It's a great ambience.
The food is excellent and the menu healthy. I had Australian garlic prawns and a simple salad. A really perfect lunch for me. There were many menu choices I would also have enjoyed. Next time!
Thank you so much to all the staff who were so welcoming and friendly, and to everyone who played a part there in a really enjoyable lunch experience.
M. C.
Beautiful ambience and couldn't fault the location. Ordering is either done through the app or at the bar so I'm not sure what the wait staff really did except bring or clear plates. We were there for 3 hours after the busy footy rush but you could feel the tiredness of the staff. The one thing I would've loved would be music outside, even if it was a live string quartet, it really would have made the night more memorable. I absolutely loved the creme brulee dessert though.
S. S.
Tasty pork belly, crispy skin, could have been more tender. Decent coleslaw. Lovely outdoor seating and view.
T. R.
Great service, beautiful views and delicious food 😊
Y. Z.
The fish wing was so good! Crispy outside and tender, soft inside. I hope there could be more coconut sauce in the side dish rather then dressing on the fish. The garlic bread looked so good. And the steak sandwich was very decent size!! Yum
R. A.
Good spot to have a quick beer after hitting the handrail close by
D. K.
Excellent and accomodating establishment, however I had to plow ten fields to afford a pint. Suggest adding a weekly special pint for $8
T. D.
Had a terrible experience with an older lady with a very blunt to the point of rude manner towards not only my husband and I, but numerous customers waiting in line. Only to be redeemed by a young lady, Ellie. She was absolutely fantastic and turned our sour experience of the Royal into a fantastic one. She knew everything about the wines and cocktails (my husband has dietary restrictions) and was so extremely kind. Simply an amazing interaction and we will be returning purely for her excellent customer service. Thank you Ellie, you made our week!
D. C.
The location is very nice.
My wife had sirloin steak and I had barramundi. The steak was very good, perfectly cooked and tender.
The barramundi however was terrible. It was very mushy and had a very strong flavor. I more often than not have barramundi when we go out for lunch or dinner, so over many years I've had my fair share, and this was not good..
The staff at the bar were good except for when they ran out of a certain brand of whiskey and out right refused to sell me the last of what was left, instead giving me a rather snarky comment.
The toilets were very clean and tidy.
The air conditioning in the restaurant area was very cold.
Overall a very nice place to have a beer and a steak.
Anything more is a disappointment.
I will go back, but not for anything more than a steak and a beer lunch.
H. P.
Really nice bar in a good location in East Perth. Staff were really friendly, service was good, and a good selection of tap beers and ciders. They also have espresso Martinis on tap, which is usually so much of a disaster that I don't get why venues do it, but really wasn't too bad!
Ordered a steak medium rare and it came out ever so slightly over looked, but was otherwise very nice.
There was a quiz night on when I visited which is also good to know that they do this, because I love a good quiz night!
Would come come again.
J. M.
Nothing like rolling in on a boat one sunny afternoon and having a delicious meal on the waterfront :D can't fault this!
L. J.
We held our wedding reception at The Royal on the Waterfront last weekend and we couldn't be happier.
We came across the venue quite by accident, but it was a very fortunate accident indeed!!
Its an absolutely beautiful venue which is very well located and the outlook is so picturesque (perfect for photos).
The staff, from the lovely functions manager, Hollie, to the bar manager who handled our event on the night, Tas, to the bar and restaurant staff were professional, personable and couldn't do enough to help out.
We held an informal canapés and drinks function and we had an entire bar and outside area to ourselves; very spacious, a choice of areas to sit or stand around and well set-up with toilets etc easily accessible. The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it.
All of our guests absolutely raved about all aspects of the event and we had an awesome time.
Thanks so very much for making our day so special and memorable!!
We will be back!! Leah and Brad Leslie
L. K.
Had a great experience the first time I went. This time though it wasn't as good. Steak sandwich I ordered was good and came out quick, my cousins fish and chips on the other hand didn't come out until 5 minutes after I had finished my meal, and gave her an upset stomach. Also service seems to have changed away from table service which isn't ideal but most likely due to coronavorus.
R. K.
The Royal is about as highbrow as a Pub can get before it stops having any claim to the name. The food and beer here is truly excellent, and the general atmosphere is great.
Cons would be that service can get a bit clingy if you pick a less busy time (also the place is occasionally entirely full so booking is a good idea), and the seating is a bit uncomfortable both indoors and outdoors. Also, the kitchen often closes very early.
S. W.
Great venue to catch a drink with friends or work colleagues after a busy day. Very convenient (and covid friendly) table service via the table QR code or NFC tag - just tap to use. Just order and pay for your drinks without leaving your position. Super idea!
L. C.
We had Battered Shark Bay Whiting, very delicious and filling. I ordered with the QR Table number thingy 😂 in the middle of the table, very easy and fast service. Loved it!
J. S.
Very tired with poor service. The food was mediocre..large portions and nice view but no atmosphere..great for kids to run around as we sat outside.
M. S. (.
Pretty delicious! Busy on a Sunday. I liked that the smashed avo was different than what you'd normally get. It had radish and beautiful rye but too much spinach leaves on top. The pancakes tasted like they were from Maccas...a bit flat and flavourless.
The best choice is the brioche brekkie burger. Their coffee is also not bad
D.
Great atmosphere.
Just sitting next to the inlet relaxing .
A nice choose of beers , wines and coders. Coffee to finish off .
Easy food with great taste
F.
Lovely setting overlooking Claisbrook Cove good food. Caters for couples small and larger groups. Casual dining area and restaurant. Can get a boat taxi from Elizabeth Quay.
B. D. M.
Nice place for a quiet gathering or afternoon drinks. Right on Claisebrook Cove in East Perth. Catch the free Yellow Cat bus from the city @ Wellington St, and get off at Haig Park Circle. Walk 50m.
i. B.
Food was disappointing, which is a shame as been coming here since opening. Fish wings with curry sauce was a challenge to eat and chicken breast dried out. Hopefully you can improve so we can come back as location is excellent.
G. C.
Delicious food and drink, friendly staff and very nice view
K. M.
Great location, finger foods where great, beer was cold and the staff I had dealings with where great.
J. I. K.
Good view and nice environment. Nice cocktails on the menu. Tbh the food is OK
S. L.
We went for a dinner last night. The food was really testy and fresh and the service was perfect , we will definitely visit again in the future . Thank you guys !
V. Q.
Just an awesome place, great food and very good staff. Wine selection is extensive, beers were super! We asked to have desserts on a different table and no questions were asked and they were very accommodating!
R. C.
Great meals and atmosphere was fantastic. A great place to catch up with friends and family.
A. S. (. f.
Will be the perfect spot during spring / summer when games are playing at the new stadium. Food is reasonable quality but pricey. Service is good. Drink selection is reasonable.
A. B.
Awesome service and food.
Z. M.
Just had dinner with my partner and Paul went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We requested the air-conditioning to be turned down and he attended to it straight away. Food was great too. We'll definitely come go back!
S. D.
Good spot to eat and drink. Pub food. Can take a dog into the outdoor bar area and eat. Accessible by boat where u can tie up on the river
K.
Great food and service, we had a booking for the restaurant side but arrived early so grabbed a drink on the bar / pub side, when we got to the restaurant we were surprised to see it was the same menu as the pub side
G. K.
Great location, cool staff, good food..had a great long lunch, then dinner here..reccomend..
N. L.
Nice relaxing bar by the water , good food aswell highly recommend .
N. B.
Very attentive staff. We picked the Royal as it is listed as dog friendly and we were meeting a friend with a small dog. Water containers are available for the dogs to drink, so the description was accurate and we were made very welcome.
Only criticism, inside the building there was really good music playing, yet nothing outside? Would loved to have had music outside also. I realise there there are homes close by and the sound will travel over the water, so low volume and lots of speakers, just for atmosphere, would have been perfect.
C. M.
I liked my sausage roll, it was very flavoursome. Good crowd and good staff too.
J. E.
Really good food and service. Good views and a great vibe.
L. F.
With one of the best waterside views around (Optus Stadium and the coloured bridge), the Royal is your best choice of bar in the Claisebrook Cove area. There's a happy hour. Big choice of draught beers. Lots of tables so you drink or eat outside by the water on warm nights as well as inside. They do lovely chips! Food is modern European\Australian.
B. P.
Good food, wine, service. Bit too much sun at our table. Only annoyance is that all waterside tables with umbrella were reserved and by 1430 when we left, only one had been occupied.
This was on Sunday 13 June.
P. &. L. T.
Great location, but the music is a tad too loud for us
J. B.
Good service but asked when we were leaving as it was booked after us in an hours time
R. M.
Great scenery and the food was nice, really enjoyed the roast vegetable salad.
A. K.
Alex is the most Amazing bartender we have ever met!! He is so warm and respectful with good humor.
N. F. A.
Giving only 3 stars as it was poor value for money. 2 burgers, one beer and one aperol spritz was around $80! View is good, that's really what brings people back. There is a nice outdoor seating area and good service. But really, $80 for 2 burgers and 2 drinks seems way too overpriced.
P. M.
Lovely food, great service and relaxing ambience eating by the water
m. o.
Cannot recommend this place enough! Great food, great view and great service. It was surprisingly busy for a wednesday this week but one of the managers, Sunny, was able to find us a table outside that had just freed up. The food came out a little slow but like I said it was pretty busy, and Sunny came over to make sure we knew that it might be a little while. Wonderful customer service. The only thing I could fault them for is that the wait at the bar was quite long, they were definitely understaffed which was a little odd considering it's the silly season
A. L.
Lovely environment, especially on a Sunday for breakfast with family and/or friends. If you're a fan of Chai Latte, you definitely need to have theirs.
S. L.
Came tonight with hubby for Dinner, walking in to a beautiful dining room setting a lovely ambiance. the wait staff were very attentive with 3 staff members checking on us to see if everything was ok throughout...this could have been as there were few seated at this time. We finished our meal with a LOVELY Affogato! these however are the only positive notes to make about this place...
our grazing board and meals we ordered to share were way overpriced for what they were... we ordered a Linguine Vengole and a funghi pizza... Well I'm sure I'm not the only one that this has happened to but unbeknownst to me would clams be in the linguine as it's the only thing from this dish not stated on the menu. Being allergic to shellfish this would've been good to have listed as I would've ordered something different to be able to enjoy. So hubby ate that while I had a pizza for dinner. All the toppings focussed in the middle leaving the base thin and soggy while the outer half dry.
To note aswell, we ordered a cocktail in which cloves and lemon were also not listed on the menu.
We don't intend to be back again....
B. A. K. (.
It's a great iconic place for a gathering on weekends. People use the name The Royal to explain certain addresses, that's how famous this restaurant is. It has a great outside sitting area with a views of the waterfront and bridge. Wide variety of food and drinks. Met Sunny the assistant manager and she was awesome and extremely busy at the same time... food is great keep up the good work guys.
t. b.
Nice venue. Beverages are at premium price and you are hit with cc surcharge
F. J.
Set in a very picturesque part of East Perth, it has a friendly Pub-like atmosphere. Good food, albeit a little on the costly end, and a good vibe. On the whole, a good dining experience.
D. J.
Great location. Ace food. Drink prices are a little exxy and the bar staff need an attitude transplant.
M. M.
Great service, food and drink in a beautiful location. Took the puppy dog and she loved it too.
R. L.
Not a bad spot for a drink. Good selection of tap beers featuring rotating local craft brewers. Food can be left wanting at times.
G. J.
Sensational food
Great service
Awesome view
S. D. M.
My family and I had a lovely Mother’s Day dinner this evening at The Royal. Special shout out to our waiter Daniel 👌 your a champ and you did an amazing job. Thank you!
G. M.
Walked along the river after watching the Dockers slaughter Hawthorn at Optus Stadium and found ourselves following the lights to a table at The Royal. We were greeted by Daniel who guided us through a lovely dinner with flawless service. Look out for the manager at the bar who says "Fantastico!" instead of fantastic (That's Italian for fantastic by the way). Pizzas are excellent, and so is the steak sandwich - you'll pay premium for the view though. If you want a good time just remember, Daniel is the guy you want at your table; I can see Daniel waving goodbye. Oh it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes.
J. D.
A good pub, solid food and great location. There is a reasonable range of beers on tap. It is pricey, though, especially on a public holiday where there is a surcharge.
C. H.
Had a work lunch here. Food was lovely, great portion size. Lovely views. Ordered lunch through an App. Worked a treat. Highly recommend.
P. R.
Exceptional bar serice food on a nother level i dig it
J. F.
A lovely place for a meal and a beverage. It's also accessible by boat which means parking is no problem. :)
M. H.
Good beers ontap, please Heaps more available. Good menu and some nice specials. Has a great outdoor eating section.
G. P.
Amazing, awesome, Fantastic!!!!!!!
So this is for our office Christmas party at The Royal, yesterday ie Friday, 4th Dec. The place was obviously busy (lots of Christmas/ year end parties ).
Our table was being served by Sabrina, a very young & gorgeous lady who absolutely loves what she does, she's confident, professional and OMG she is just fabulous!!!!!!! She was friendly, warm and courteous. She helped us with the menu (food/drinks) . Since we were a large group, we obviously had different food / drink preferences. She served us with this beaming smile each time, no matter how many times we ordered or how many times we needed assistance. She is a superstar! She made the evening very enjoyable and relaxing for us. Thank you so much 💖
Cindy, the manager is also a extremely professional, warm and ensure everything is just perfect for the guests. Overall what a "Winning team" !!!!! More power to you, keep up the great service and great work.
Thank you.
Garima

Just had drinks here , nice atmosphere and surrounds
B. B.
Recommended by an associate as a pub close to the football. The Royal turned out to be an elderly establishment in need of a wash or a vacuum as with the carpets. There's were decent menu with minimal "twist" meal options.. eitherway the pork and veg was nice enough and the standard pizzas were ok.
J. P.
Great spot on the waterfront for a date or drinks with the boys. Lots of RGB/LED colourful lighting in the area classes up an already classy neighborhood. Great food; steaks, burgers, fish and chips and Jerry Fraser (the king of oysters) on a Tuesday night. Thursday night is quiz night. Oh and Colonial on tap!
K. B. L.
Long wait for food. Excellent wait staff. Pizza was great Marinara pasta was bland
K. W.
We visited here following a fringe festival show held at the old girls school. We didn't have a reservation but managed to get a table in the restaurant section. It actually want busy. Staff were very helpful and provided great service. The bonus was that they got our meals right and they all came out at the same time. Well done. This is the first Perth restaurant in the last 7 visits that had got it right. Perth has really dropped the bundle with this simple feat but The Royal did it well. I had a fabulous steak sandwich which was superb and everyone loved their meals. Drinks were between $12 - $13.00 for pints and wines were around $10. Great location and good service.
M. F.
Well appointed place. A pity it rained, but we still enjoyed the beautiful waterfront view. Service was excellent, wait staff were friendly and efficient. Small but great menu. Dishes we ordered were yummy and on time. Extensive beverage menu. Very happy with our meal. We'll be back!! I hope no rain this time!!🤣🤣♥️♥️
K. T.
We came here again specifically to eat their "Spaghetti" dish. It was always worth the drive but this time I was devastated. The spaghetti was undercooked, gluggy and stuck together. I'm not fussy but this was inedible.
Kudos to the waiter who noticed I was unhappy and next minute we had the restaurant manager come sit down with us for a chat, she informed us they had a new chef and offered to refund the meal or our drinks.
These guys have amazing customer service and although the dish was disappointing this time round, it's well worth checking out The Royal for some of the other items on their menu, especially the Kilpatrick oysters with bacon jam. They are deluxe!
M. G.
Have been coming here as a regular for dinner over the last year or so. My latest visit was disappointing, the chicken burger that I have enjoyed so many times has shrunk in size, still tasted good but looked like a kids meal. The side of chips (which are now $10) was salt less and the sauces had a skin on them, so had obviously been stilling for a while.
I'll probably give them another chance, as we love the location and that the bar side is dog friendly. I hope this visit is just a once off.
S. A.
Excellent Food! The service by Paul was even better!
R. C.
It's been a while since I have been and I am quite shocked how this place has changed, not for the good. Booked a table, the gentleman looked very confused when I said we had a table booked, took a minute or 2 to work out what to do. No drinks list given, had to ask what was available which the gentleman wasn't 100% sure so stood there trying to name everything, prices have gone up a riduclous amount and portion sizes have reduced. No atmosphere anymore. Really disappointed with this visit, hopefully they can improve.
S. M.
Came here for a couple of drinks and some food before a night out with my partner, staff were excellent food was really nice. Had squid which was delicious and great pizza too. Beatiful spot right In claisebrook cove.
C. R. H.
Great location, had lunch here with friends recently. Very easy to get to via public transport (train and yellow clipper). The yellow clipper stops are located nearby. Spent a pleasant afternoon overlooking the river.
Q. K.
The location is beautiful, especially on a warm summer's evening out on the patio. We booked a large table on the restaurant side and was pleasantly greeted and seated. We were on a tight timeframe which the restaurant graciously accommodated for. They were also able to split the bill which was very helpful being a large group. The food was nice, although a little pricey I thought but it was nice so we'll be back.
R. A.
Great location, Friendly staff. A little pricey but good selection. Had bangers and mash which I enjoyed
R. T.
Perfect spot for a late afternoon drink. Popular place to bump into old acquaintances
B. J.
Im not here to bag The Royal, as I live 30 meters from the pub. Do I use the Royal? Not very often I go to The Grovenor 2 k's away!! Why? Because they are owned by Colonial Brewery they are limited to Australian beers. If you are British and there are a lot of us, you have nothing. Even if you had Kilkenny in cans. Also at $14 a pint you are expensive. Food! Most people love Steak, chips and salad with sauce. Create a "house special" of a rump style steak for under $30, and you will have locals using you. Just a few suggestions. East perth resident.
I. D.
Nice location besides Claisebrook Cove. Decent amount of outdoor seating. Colonial Brewing Co. beers on tap are great, as well as a nice selection of independent guest beers and the usual regulars. Both times I have eaten here recently the food has been okay but a bit pedestrian.
M. B. D.
Barramundi was nice but it was missing something.
Parmigiana was good, salad was alright.
* not surprised they changed my review!
The company was better than the food.
a. p.
Great staff, lovely service, perfect, overpriced, steak. Place is an aircraft hanger with all the character and charm of an asbestos fence. Great views of the inlet. Drinks are at astronomic prices for very ordinary wines and beers. The view is not worth that kind of premium. The staff certainly are worth a premium as they are efficient, quick, very very pleasant. If I was to return it would only be for the quality of their service. The rest of the experience can be summed up as "meh".
A. S.
Great food. Especially to share with friends.
D. C.
I haven't been here for years. Last time, the food wasn't so great. This time, they have stepped it up a notch! It has a nice setting overlooking the Claisebrook cove water and I think they can do heaps better on the food. Service was good and the prices are OK.
T. H.
A great place for a meal and beverage. We visit here often whilst staying at the Sebel. Friendly staff, delicious food, fantastic river views, great atmosphere, a real delight to visit when your in East Perth.
C. L.
Service was ok
Burger was ordinary for $26 spend
S. W.
Great bar service, would recommend
L. A.
Good service, well cooked simple menu and great view. Good place to take visitors.
A. B.
Went for a dinner for two on a Saturday night. Great food and service! Will definitely go back
M. H.
Popular place. Seemed to change ownership some time ago and not quite the same since. Always enjoyed the food and plenty of space with inside and outside areas. Great waterfront location too. Our tradition spot to go to when myself or a family member has moved to or come to visit Australia for their first night.
G. T.
The place was packed for the derby and the waiter brought my food over and I accidentally spilt what little was left of my pint of guiness. He cleaned the table instantly and brought another out within minutes. Great service
A. L.
Great atmosphere and lovely view! The food is not very good. We had beef burger, chicken burger, fish and chips, and the veggie salad. The best thing was the veggie salad - the rest was awful. Would come back for drinks before the footy but will eat elsewhere next time
T. N.
Mixed feelings about this place. My wife had a cocktail ($18) which was a small glass, 3/4 full of ice and tasted like there was no alcohol in it. Later in the night, my wife ordered a dessert wine which again was short poured. We did question it and it was topped up but still not to the required 90ml. Food wise, we ordered the vegetable salad. A different dish came out but to their credit, it was delicious. The chicken parmigiana was huge and good value and the fish and chips was nicely cooked. Service wise, everyone was helpful and polite just needs improvement on the taking of orders and the drinks.
A. A.
Great location good beer selection and menu.
L. K.
Lovely view. Service not as high standard as I expected for but passable
S. E.
What in earth are you doing having a sick person working? In the current climate, it is absolutely ridiculous that a person who is sneezing is running around delivery food. Nice venue and everything, but come on. So appalled
R. W.
The Royal on the Waterfront is a fantastic venue located on the beautiful hidden cove of Claisebrook's waterfront. The staff are efficient, hard working and extremely friendly which made my experience pleasant. Highly recommend the beef shin pasta during winter with a glass of Mother's Milk Shiraz! Yum! Well done the Royal team, you're outstanding! Especially Mr Lachy, who helped my guests with extensive beer knowledge and a beautiful smile!
J. P.
Just had the roasted cauliflower and enjoyed it so much. I am craving it again already. Had to use my phone at the table to order (due to covid19 restrictions), only took a few minutes to set up.
M. R.
Nice spot and lovely food. Customer service average but maybe because they may have been understaffed or just a bit slow.
P. C.
Great location and staff were great!
Pizzas looked and tasted good. Four of us ordered steak medium and received medium to well for all four. Obviously the cook is great at pizzas and poor with beef!
D. R.
I like the pub, good location and outlook. Bar staff are always real friendly and you can get a drink order quickly. They have the Colonial margaret river brewery beers on tap which is nice for something different. Biggest negative - the food is totally over priced - it is fine, but should be 50% cheaper than what it is. Bar is 5 stars, food is 3 stars.
M. P.
Good view not pumped about much else, found bouncer staff rude and food was average
B. M.
Fantastic! Actually came here back in November 2016 for a joint Birthday Dinner and it did not fail to impress. The staff were attentive and friendly, and quickly and efficiently organised the relocation of our table to outside so we could enjoy the cool air as opposed to the stuffy, hot inside. They probably need to install some air conditioning to be honest, but the smooth transition to outside, let all be forgiven. The food took about 25 minutes to be ready and was well worth the wait. It was cooked well, and the texture, taste and aroma of all the dishes was splendid. The location is central and the only con I can think of is the price. Because of this, this is not a regular place to meet and eat, but it is still great for the occasional hangout; no matter what the purpose is.
I. S.
Pricey, even for Perth. We went there yesterday and the whole indoor sections smelt of urine. Luckily we were outside and weren't staying too long. Food was great though. Staff were pleasant.
I called earlier in the week to book a table in the bar and I was told they didn't take bookings but I saw plenty of reserved signs on tables nowhere near each other.

What a nightmare. How are you so unprepared with the Optus stadium just up the road. Drinks took forever to come out, so did food. Obviously there was a huge influx of cricket fans as the game just finished up the road, but if you're showing the game on the TV then you should know what you're in for. Staff were running around like crazy, so props to them, but poor form
A. L.
Quiet lunch during the week. Was best gluten free burger ive had! Just parking around East Perth is difficult and expensive.
M. M.
Great location. Interesting menu. Reasonable choice of beer varieties though anywhere with IPA is good with me.
P. W.
Great location, nice beer selection
L. K.
Not up to their usual standard. Garlic bread was lacking substance, more like garlic flatbread with no salt. Fish pie was lacking, stodgy and pastry was soggy. Calamari was delicious and so was the pumpkin feta pizza.
P. S.
The best place for any kind of occasion. Whether it's date night, casual dinner, or a big birthday dinner this place is perfect. The staff are super friendly, customer service excellent. The food is always great never disappoints always gets better. Will definitely be back for more.
R. F.
I always like going here, but it shines in the summer as the setting is fantastic. It is worth booking a table outside if you can. And now the new claisebrook bridge is complete it is an ideal location to kick off a visit to the stadium.
The food is good but I find that the menu on the pub-side is a bit overpriced, and they could try to cater more for people who just want a beer and some snacks, given there is a decent restaurant attached. So if it's a meal you are after you might as well go there instead.
The Royal has a very good selection of beers and wines, so you won't be disappointed there. There is also a good selection of screens for those looking for a sports fix.

Nice venue, good views and environment, food is a bit overpriced but still enjoyed it

Five of us went to the Royal yesterday. Both myself and my Wife have been numerous times but stopped going as the service and food went a bit downhill. We decided to give it another go and took 3 friends who had never been there before. We booked our table beforehand as we knew it gets very busy on the weekends. From the minute we sat down the service was excellent. We knew that we had to give them our credit card to keep behind the bar so that wasn't a problem. Our waiter was Jamie who informed us that there was a 45 minute wait for food but if we managed to get our order in before the big tables this wait time could be reduced. We ordered the tasting plate to start plus some oysters and other plates and everything was very tasty. We had a mixture of Barramundi, plus the cod and chips and soft shell crab and everything was a high standard. Our waiter Jamie couldn't have done anything more, he was attentive without being intrusive and was there every time we needed anything. Also when we were taking photos a lovely irish waitress offered to take the photo of us all. We will certainly be returning to The Royal in future and they have gained 3 more clients as our friends loved it.
J. J.
Superb view, good food, perfect for lunch or dinner.
Parking can be challenging, but well worth a visit or three...

We went there for Sunday lunch, it's quite a beautiful location and surprisingly busy too. We sat at a spare table outside, although it turned out that we were in the bar area and if we wanted to order from the restaurant menu then we needed to move to that area (where all the outdoor tables were full). So in the end, we sat indoors, but it's nice enough, I didn't mind saving myself from potential sunburn.
I had an angel hair pasta with tuna for $25, my partner had the wagyu burger/chips for $26. I also had a "chocolate and lemon cheesecake" cocktail for $16.
The cocktail was good, although martini-sized, so it's up to the individual whether they would consider $16 a worthwhile price or not for such a size.. I guess it's relatively normal these days!
The burger was tasty, and the pasta was not too bad although to be perfectly honest I wouldn't have called it angel-hair pasta since it wasn't really thin enough.
They told us the wait for our meals would be ~45min, although it ended up being 30min. The restaurant was busy but not full to capacity at all, so I get the feeling their kitchen must be disproportionately small and/or understaffed in order to cater to the patrons properly. Especially since waiting time seems to be a common complaint.
Overall the service was excellent, the food was decent, the location is excellent, and if you're willing to wait for your meals and pay relatively high prices, then that's okay.
L. C.
Lovely service and stunning outlook. Quite an expensive menu, though wine list not too bad. Some work to do re: balance of flavours and meal presentation, though.
R. L.
Place is good, located next to water. Probably it's a good place for hang out with friends. But the food are average, my steak was burnt. Not sure if I'd come back for the steak.
B. D.
Great food, excellent location, very helpful attentive friendly staff.
L. F.
Just had great Mothers Day dinner and wonderful service from our waiter Daniel who was polite, friendly and charming. Thank you Daniel .
M. W.
Great place great food good service
L. B.
Great lunch, fab service. Overall lovely experience. Can recommend the garlic prawns.
S. B.
Has a nice view and friendly staff. Inside seating is pleasant and there are gas heaters for outside (writing this review in Winter). The only thing I didn't appreciate on a recent visit was a lack of gluten free cake options - we would have liked to sit down for a coffee and cake, and that excluded me. The choice of drinks and cocktails available from the bar is great.
M. G.
Walked in off the street and was greeted by friendly security. It was late and this made me feel safe and welcome. A great venue perfect location , It was busy but there was plenty of room for all to relax and have a good time
C. R.
We went for the oysters (like we have multiple times in the past) only to discover they now only serve Natural + Klipatrick as the choices. Please bring back the Raspberry + Ginger!
Food menu wasn't standout but when I eventually picked the Seafood Trio as a main, I couldn't fault it. Very enjoyable and lovely service otherwise.
R. S.
Food was ok in taste, big size portions burgers (had butter chicken) good fires nice and crispy and hot. Beer selction is not to bad and a good price. Best part is the view and the boats coming up to the bar!
Dogs welcome and service was good (no table service was a shame). Would be nice to have a larger selction of food and maybe some lunch special offers.
Parking is horrendous around the area unless your willing to pay $$$ at the car parks. Sports on the tv in the bar (why would you be inside and miss the view??)
A. C.
Great location. We went for lunch. I had a pork belly, it was between $38_$40 and it was really dry I couldn't chew it. My partner said his burger was great though.
F. D.
Friendly prompt service
Decent pub food
Reasonable pricing
G. M.
Beautiful setting. Good menu. Service was very good, all wait staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. Great wine list. Definitely recommend.
B. n.
We have always loved the Royal, great location, good service, however our visit last Sunday was like visiting a dog park. We had 5 dogs around us, 2 at our table, 1 directly behind us an then 2 in a pram no less! Their owner then proceeded to wipe their soiled sheepskin rug in the pram and left the paper towel on the table next to their food! They all barked at people and children going past and the experience was thoroughly unenjoyable. I would like to say that I will return but unlikely if the dogs are outnumbering people trying to enjoy a drink and food.
A. M.
Booked here for an engagement party and I must admit that the team there did an excellent job not just with the service, but checking in with us to make sure we were happy. The food was excellent and so was the selection of wines and beers - the cocktail carafes were a winner. The view from the outside tables is spectacular on a cracking day.
B. B.
There are good and bad things witb this Restaurant.
Nice view, friendly staff, and also you are able to split the bill
I ordered Gamberi pizza which suppose to have chilli prowns, the pizza came in 8 slices, one little prawn per slice! and not chilli for me.
I dont call this prown pizza, not worth it really.
Also we were waiting too long, more than an hour. We were 21 people and by the time i received my food most of the friends were finished with their food. It was such a long wait that we couldn't eat together.
S.
Nice little spot for a beer and a pizza. Good views, good service.
K. G.
Nice place, could have given this 5 stars but it lost 2 after stuffing up my special order twice. The kitchen staff clearly do not understand that butter is a dairy product, and I ended up with butter covered potatoes as part of the dish even after requesting no dairy, when they replaced the meal it still had butter in it! What I could eat, oysters and the fish, was very good...
C. B.
Really good location. Good food.
c. c.
Food here improved no end over the last 2 years.Extensive menu and large beverage list.
Great location on the river inlet. You can get the yellow CAT Bus from the CBD.
Drops you off right outside.
C. O.
This restaurant consistently serves great meals and the staff are exceptional.
M. S.
The Royal gave me excellent service when i went to find a Barmy Army tee shirt and the people werent there. The lovely girl rang the Army and found the tee shirts so now I'm already for the test tomorrow. The staff couldn't do enough for me. Very impressed!!
J. T.
The royal delivers whenever you go there. It does get packed if there's something on at Optus Stadium now though. Been here for brekkie, lunch and dinner and it's always top notch. Good menu and huge choice of beverages. For watching sport it's excellent as well.
J. B.
Beautifull part of Perth. The location is amazing. Especially at night. Totally different expierince. Great choice of eating places and caffes. Royal Bristol - elegant, spacious. Excellent service. Menu to satisfy anybody, everybody. Plan to go back there again. Definately. 👍
L. S.
Great staff, decent drinks selection, food is not the best but ok.
p. n.
So happy with our meal last night. The food was very delicious...above our expectations and the service was exceptional. Have booked now for a birthday I was so impressed.
P. M.
Great location on the Swan River with outdoor seating available. Nice food, wines are not cheap!
M. M.
Crowded so not pleasant...staff heavy handed, over the top.
R. M.
The Royal is in a prime location for a modern Australian pub, it has views out to the Swan River which are great day or night when the bridge lit up. The prices were similar to other pubs and there is a casual atmosphere with a good amount of seating.
R. V.
Have had lunch here a few times now as it's a very nice spot to sit and have lunch on a sunny day (or even a rainy day as one of them turned out to be). Bar food is great with a good selection of beers (Colonial Small Ale is a great option for a work lunch!).
m. g.
We love this venue for its wonderful view, great CRAFT beers on tap, cheerful staff and easy menu. Also close to public transport and the East Perth canals, with its in the city but out of the rate race vibe.
M. C.
Great food. Staff were great with my 2yo grandson.
M. C.
Good friendly local bar on the waterfront with large outdoor area to enjoy the weather. Good beer and wine selection and wholesome pizzas are great! Nice friendly staff
M. C.
We had an excellent meal friendly good staff hot delicious fish pie couldn't ask for any more Im shure we'll be back thanks everyone.
A. M.
Its a hanger with a charming river view. What it lacks in charm, it also lacks in decor, the only thing going for it is the quality of the staff. Ive had bad meals and good meals here, but both were at premium prices for a disguised concrete shell with formica tables.
J. F.
Nice casual bar by the water front. Food is average but the drinks and atmosphere definitely make up for it!
R. H.
Overall a very nice location, great range of drinks, relaxed atmosphere yet classy.
The Chicken Parmigiana was very disappointing. Small, overly pretentious, and expensive (minus 1 Star).
L. S.
Was so busy for AFLGF the staff coped well
J. H.
Love the position, service and food great
D. N.
We had a very good experience thanks. The food was very good.
T. W.
Lovely spot and we received excellent service but out of 4 mains : one was great , two were average and the last a caeser salad was a mayonnaise abortion which was nigh on inedible . Lunch is not that expensive but the dinner menu is overpriced by a fair margin . .
R. N.
Great location, service was super and food was really good. Busy on the weekend, make a booking if you want to sit in the restaurant.
J. W.
Great location very pretty by the water with the occasional fire works .
Initially we had good service the food was excellent by all except mine could of been better I had the Baramundi Fish with Crispy skin but it was not crispy and there rest was passable for the price mmm maybe no up to my standard however everyone had different food than me, but was let down by the lack of service to the table after the food was dropped NO ONE CAME TO TAKE THE PLATES AWAY after about 30 mins. I actually had to clear the table myself as we couldn't find a waiter. It wasn't that busy last night the restaurant only had outside patronage. Then we waited for along time to get coffee we had to go find a waiter and then she left us and took sometime to come back. Then it took quite awhile for a coffee and desert to come but was worth the wait as it was sensational. So in this instance it was to table service that let us down as everything else was pretty much PERFECT.
D. L.
Had mixed service here on a couple of nights, with wait staff disappearing for some time after being asked for a bottle of water. Another night, though, there were no problems. Food is simple and well-made, with great desserts.
S. G.
Nice menu, pizzas, beers right by the claisebrook inlet, right opposite / across the water from the new Optus stadium
I. M.
Great selection of beers plus all of the Colonial beers on tap too. The Mash AIPA was really tasty but also very deceiving at 6.8%! Be careful.
Good food at reasonable prices also.
D. D. P.
Went here for lunch on a stormy winter day. Temperature inside was warm and cosy. Was nice to watch the storm roll in over the river. Service was great and food was awesome.
J. H.
Claisbrook cove is really pretty and if you’re lucky you will see some dolphins! The royal is spacious and nice but wasn’t particularly special. Food is decent and same for drinks.
g. s.
We love the vegan pizza and vegan pasta at The Royal, and of course the absolutely lovely staff who have looked after us there for the past 7 years. Our No. 1 bar/restaurant in Perth.
Grant & Tasha 😊😊
M. H.
Great location and nice food, they have the best Ginger beer in tap too (Brookvale Union)
S. W.
Remember the Ettamogah pub? The themed pub based on a cartoon pub? This isn't like that at all. The beers are normal and the views are not of paddocks. Lots of tv's and they don't mind if you ask them to put on 'The View' or 'Bold and the Beautiful' because let's face it - you are daydrinking and need some light entertainment. Can you even belive what Thomas did?!? If you like the new Ridge, then this is the place for you.
L.
Great day service excellent and food very good.
J. M.
Extremely expensive. $40 for a pizza. Great location, relaxed on the dress code however most visitors are well presented and the service is fast. Can arrive here by boat.
D. D.
Great location, staff were friendly and the atmosphere good. Food wasn't bad either. Typical up maket pub in a nice location.
C. S.
Great location, simple well.prepared food great views at night
Good range of craft beers. Exfellent for small or large groups
H. P.
Nice waterfront view, beer is rather cheap compared to other pubs in the CBD, plenty of outdoor seats and tables. Staffs could be a little more friendly though.
D. L.
Fabulous! I couldn't ask for better ambience than the The Royal on The Waterfront with it's lighted bridge and festive lights reflecting on the the water...very romantic...very relaxing! Not to mention, last, but certainly not least, the variety of choices in Entre's from steaks, roast pork to spaghetti ro mention a few; to something on the lighter side....salads and gourmet sandwiches. There is something to please everyone's pallet and appetite!! Oh, and, of course, all of those luscious deserts!! "To die for!!" A must-have!!! You know how that goes!!
J. H.
If you are happy to wait 2hrs for your meals to arrive, I highly recommend this place. The marinara was one of the best I have had and the atmosphere and view is great, but service was ridiculously slow and they weren't even busy.
N. T.
Enjoying a beer at the Royal bar Perth Western Australia.
n.
Large venue, beautiful location, friendly staff, extensive wine list - you just can't beat the ambience here! One of Perth's best spots!
J. S.
Great food, pretty good overall on prices, staff were excellent the only reason they missed out the 5 stars was for the aircon not working properly (seemed like it was beening turned off/on cause it did blow cold a few times we were there for the night
And the toilets weren't up to scratch pretty dirty after all.
M. B.
Great for a business lunch. Good food selection with Colonial Brewery beers. More expensive than most pubs in town but great setting.
B. A.
Its stunning at the Royal on a Perth sunny day with the view over the water to Optus Stadium but you do pay for the privilege with pricey food and drink. Easy paid parking on both sides.
R. K.
Our local bar for Friday night drinks :D Great service, stunning location and food is delicious. What more could you want?
J. M.
My new local... very (too) convenient. Good choice of beers including some tasty craft brews. Friendly staff too.
J. T.
Superb location. Enjoyed Colonial beers whilst sun set over the river. Sports bar, restaurant and outdoor area...great place to chillout.
T. H.
The wait staff very friendly and helpful! Food ordered was great. Barramundi was lovely. Lovey place. Gorgeous views. Little noisy. ..however it is a Friday!
L. C.
Hard to beat having a beer & meal down by the water on a beautiful afternoon. A tad on the pricy side & not being able to stand while drinking an alcoholic beverage is a little annoying - hence 4 stars rather than 5
H. W.
Beautiful food, great service, lovely view of the water. We went on AFL Grand Final day, it was very busy and loud. But great atmosphere
C. P.
Great functions coordinator. Hosted my mum's 70th birthday party - couldn't be happier. Excellent food, drink and staff.
P. K.
If your an Accor Member flash your card for food and drinks. Good work drinking hole and the grub isn’t too bad. If your in East Perth it’s a good vibe and a good selection of beer and a few ciders.
J. M.
Divine food, views and a wonderful range of craft beers. This is the perfect place for lunch or dinner.
D. F.
Great food, amazing atmosphere and view. Need more range if beer though.
B. C.
Nice beers and good food. I like sitting out the front and seeing the boats pull up. Good view of the new stadium too.

Great restaurant/bar, with a good selection on the menu. Has an excellent Alfresco area & waterfront views.
A. T.
Awesome venue, pizza is the best I have had. Do not pass up the pizza option if you go here
S. S.
Ordered some takeaway pizza to have while enjoying the Christmas lights. Delicious.
B. D.
A great view, relaxed atmosphere and plenty of great beers on tap to choose from, perfect for groups of 6-8.
Prices are as expected for the area.
V. L.
I give it 5 stars for the fact they do Asahi Black on tap, magnificent beer which most places don't stock.
M. O.
They POUR???? An Espresso Martini from a tap?? charge a fortune and it is the worst one I have ever had.
t.
This restaurant has food that is good, with a very nice view of the Swan River, and friendly staff. A bit expensive, but I still recommend eating here.
B. L.
Good spot after the football .easy walk, easy to get a drink, easy to get a feed.
L. L.
Great venue. Food delicious, very well presented & served in a reasonable time. Waiting staff attentive & proficient.
G. G.
Nice spot on the water for a feed and drink.
J. M.
Lovely staff and great food in a beautiful location. Only suggestion would be a few more vegetarian options!
N. D.
Been multiple times, love the food, service and the view of the waterfront. Great selection of beers and wine
T. P. O.
Had lunch with a friend here today, weather wasn't the best, but even when it rained we didn't get wet out side. A great location and the food was fabulous.
L. F.
Nice restaurant. Rich menu a la - carte with daily extra selection. Well presented plate and tasting nice. Fast service. Surround enchanting.

Great setting - I felt I was in Amsterdam.
d.
Eat and drink here on a regular basis and service and food are both excellent. Beautiful location gives it an edge over competitors.
A. C.
Really nice views of the water and the rainbow Bridge. Decent beers and food, pizza pretty expensive however, around $25 for a small square one.
C. P.

Very pleasant place to enjoy some quiet drinks. Great location on the water front.
L. T.
Restaurant is nice, bar area is nice. They have a weird rule about standing and drinking. Plus outside area closed at 11pm on a Saturday.
A. A.
Great atmosphere, food was good and staff were friendly. Gotta sit outside by the water though.
T. D.
Great waterfront location. Our steaks were cooked very well, staff were engaging and friendly. Well done!

Beautiful view and location on the water, massive wine list. Just unbelievable. The food was subpar though. But the view makes up for it.
D. S.
Loved this spot to have a drink by the water ❤
M. M.
Food was amazing and staff very attentive and friendly. Cleanliness of the bathrooms needs some serious attention though.
R. B.
Nice location, best to sit outside to avoid the funky pub smell inside, otherwise great place.
S. K.
You can't go wrong with The Royal, especially on a Friday night. The service is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. Sitting right on the water drinking a glass of vino...bliss!

Good selection of beers from Colonial Brewery and local breweries. Great location on quiet waterway. Reasonably priced food.
C. P.
Service by the girls was brill
Loved the ambience. Food was nice but nothing special. Tasted ok.
M. S.
The choices of beers are delectable. A bit expensive, but definitely worth it. Outside is a man made bay makes the place a bit fancy.
J. W.
Went on Labour day for lunch, was told probably a 45 mins wait upfront.
Served in 30 mins, had a great time, friendly service, lovely food, a little pricey but ok for public holiday.

Like the royal, nice view of the water, lots of different foods, drinks and cocktails. Plenty of TVs inside too if you like your sport.
B. J.
Excellent burgers. One of the best tap beer selections in Perth (Colonial AND Mountain Goat!!)
D. M.
Feels like it caters more for the business community, a bit off hand with us tourists. Preferred the drinks and atmosphere at Partisan nearby
J. S.
Lovely views of East Perth Cove. It's just off the train line so you can skate or ride your bike there.
J. G.
Great location, great selection of beers, decent pub grub and probably the most dog friendly pub in Perth that we have found.
D. M. V. M.

Never stayed at the Royal. Staff in bar very courteous and pity there wasn't more people there on a Sat night at 9.30pm...we need to promote East Perth or we may well lose this great venue.

D. C.
We love to come here on our boat. Have a awesome steak sandwich a nice cold beer overlooking the inlet.
J. W.
Friendly staff, lovely food which was brought out all at the same time (6 of us) but it is so loud inside the restaurant that you couldn't hear what was being said on the other side of the table, you could only chat with those sitting directly beside you.
B. a.
Had a great day beautiful spot great service
D. C.
Chips getting smaller and smaller, from 2 dips down to 1 with the same price. Still good with great customer services and views of East Perth
