Comments of Door Knock

Amazing bar with fantastic atmosphere and unique, delicious cocktails. It is well worth finding this hidden gem. The staff were wonderful and although I didn't eat the food, what I saw looked fantastic. Had a great time!
C. Y.
Hidden bar. Knock on the door three times to enter. Service was friendly. Drinks were yummy. Food menu actually looked legit but was generally too full (coming from dinner) to order too much. Will be back to try more things from the menu.
R. S.
First time going to this place and I loved it.
The entrance is tricky to find since it is just a door between shops.
The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere inside is great. You can easily talk with others because the music is not too loud.
Good cocktails and food menu.
Perfect for a date night or catching up with friends.

Really enjoyed this place. Small hard to find cocktail bar with good service. All the tick boxes for me and my clients. Ambient lighting, music on good level so can chat with clients. Got a shot of tequila/pineapple mix for pallet cleansing on the house. Highly recommend.

This place gave such good vibes. Katrina looked after our group of 14 really well. She was really thoughtful and patient, making the whole night stress free and relaxed. A big group like ours is never easy to look after but she did an amazing job! We really appreciate her hospitality!
S. M.
Such a cool bar.
Be careful as there is no phone reception in there.
Beautiful atmosphere, great cocktails and a great place for a place to have drinks pre or post dinner.
M. P.
This is an awesome out of the way little bar. Takes in away in the basement of the address, we walked down a narrow set of stairs and corridor to meet by a locked door with a sign saying knock three times and the door will open. The door did eventually open and we were meat with an awesome bar, amazing lighting and atmosphere. The best drink I had all night was the "Ruff in the Jungle". Get amongst it.

This is a great hidden away bar which is close to public transport. The serve and food and the cocktails are amazing. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. The venue is really beautiful with great styling and the bathrooms area super nice and very clean. Definitely book ahead as they get busy.

If you're after a bar/restaurant that's a little different, you have to add this to your list. Love the basement underground feel of the location and decor, a great place for nibble and drinks with friends or an intimate romantic feed with your other half.
Staff seems friendly and they're happy to make any cocktail of your choice if it's not on the menu. You have to try their complimentary popcorn, so good!

Hidden bar full of character and ambiance.
You could easily walk past and not know. Follow the dark entrance underground off Pitt St and knock on the door 3 times. As the door opens and you are welcomed in you immediately relax and settle in. Bartenders do a good job on cocktails and a decent wine list. Sit, drink and enjoy an environment quite enough for a conversation but still with a good vibe.

Door Knock was a really interesting bar, right from the mysterious entrance to the fun cocktails. The staff were very attentive and service is quick. The ambience is lively yet very cosy with candlelit corners. We ordered 3 different cocktails and all of them were quite nice. My friends and I also really enjoyed the mac n cheese croquettes, and the cheese and meat board had a good selection of items to try. Overall a nice place for intimate gatherings or special occasions for people who prefer a casual vibe.

Recently came here for after dinner drinks. Great hidden bar in the CBD that has a nice atmosphere and a very good range of drinks. The menu doesn’t list the spirits that they have but the wait staff were very knowledgeable and able to provide some great recommendations. We didn’t have any food but I’d definitely recommend for after work or after dinner drinks.

Through a hard to find doorway (hard to find for me, anyway!) at the end of a long dark hallway you'll find a door. Follow the directions to knock and enter an exciting underground world of a speakeasy cocktail bar. Great drinks, amazing food (try the sausage roll, you will not be disappointed) and awesome staff will take you away from whatever life has for you above ground.
K. S. V.
LOVE this place! Part of the fun is finding it on your first visit, will definitely take visitors here when they can come back! Feel like you’ve discovered a secret bar, but then inside the atmosphere is relaxed but buzzing. Staff are gorgeous. Truffle popcorn 😋
F. C.
The entrance was a little hard to find, since it's a small doorway, but once you see it you'll wonder how you missed it. Remember, it's number 70.
Amazing atmosphere once you get in and are seated. Remember not to arrive too early, since there are bookings and you need to knock to enter, they probably won't be expecting you and might not be paying attention to the door.
Either way the drinks and food are amazing, especially the sirloin.
Will definitely come again.
F. C.
Great bar located in the basement of a Pitt St office block. We went for drinks before going out to dinner. The cocktails were delicious catering to all tastes. Their bowl of popcorn served with the drinks was moorish. Staff were friendly and helpful if you’re struggling to decide which cocktail to try.
M. H.
What a gem! Hidden away on busy Pitt st you will never find this place unless you’re looking for it! We loved this bar and will definitely be back now that we know where is!
K. C.
An interesting hidden subterranean gem. Truly creative in its design and decor that matches with the Nordic theme.
The food in the banquet is quite inventive and unique in some cases. Bone marrow was quite delicious and venison was cooked to perfection. Overall food and drinks were great.
Service was friendly and attentive, with plenty of knowledge to help you enjoy each dish to its utmost potential. The price of the mains are quite steep exorbitant for the portion size given.

(4.5 stars)
After descending deep into subterranean Sydney and walking down a long dark corridor that gives you a physical transition from the hectic pace of Pitt Street, you reach a juncture where instructions are printed on a wall. Three knocks will see you gain you entrance to Door Knock, a subterranean bar with a log cabin feel.
It’s a warm wooden womb without a view, though there are windows, and shelves of ye olde knickknacks. Overhead, hanging grape vines, wooden rafters and fairy lights conceal the basement fixtures, along with sheets of rusty corrugated iron over the bar. Wooden wedge shelves turn a space-sensitive long banquette into a series of intimate booths. Along with the dangling rope room dividers, this carpentry gives the space a faintly nautical feel, like you’re sitting in steerage down in the lower hold of a wooden sailing ship.
Appropriately then, my first cocktail is a Mez-sage In A Bottle ($22), poured at the table after bobbing over from the bar. It’s a beautifully integrated blend of smoky sage mezcal, Dom Benedictine, and acidulated apricot nectar (to stop it being sweet and cloying) with a sea salt rim and an edible garnish of apricot and sesame seed paper. Smoky and salty, it’s hard to untangle but oh-so-easy to drink. A study in contrasts, Nut Milk City Limits ($21) takes the sailor’s favourite poison – Coco Lopez Washed Plantation Rum – and teams it with Yellow Chartreuse, salted macadamia and sesame orgeat with a dusting of nutmeg. It’s a beautifully soft rum cocktail, and the best nut milk drink I’ve ever had, with the macadamia and sea salt coming through particularly well at the bottom of the drink.
With our whistles well whetted, we relax enough to look around, and notice nobody in the popular, 90-seater bar is on their mobile phone. This enforced interaction comes from being so deep underground there’s absolutely no mobile reception. I have to say I like it.
The food menu is a short, please-all collection of drinking snacks plus a couple of dishes that could serve as solo mains if you feel inclined to stay through dinner. We kick off with Mini Corn Dogs ($12) slathered in chunky tomato relish with a tangy side of American mustard. Since we’ve gone all Americana, I switch to a more appropriate Woodford Rye-based cocktail called The Carrot Whispers ($23). While it isn’t quite as bright a star as our first two drinks, it’s notable for the seamless way that Campari and Averna (Italian bitters) merge with the Kentucky rye whiskey, carrot and cardamom honey, so no one flavour jumps out and shouts: “Look at meeee.” And how cute do those rounded little carrot nubs look?!
Three cubic Mac’n’Cheese Croquettes ($16) certainly demonstrate that Door Knock have got their food costs nailed, but they’re so likeable, you’re probably not going to care. Being old enough to care about vegetable balance even in our bar eats, we team them with a Radicchio and Buffalo Mozzarella Salad ($12) dotted with candied walnuts, crisp green pear slices and rocket. Bound by a honey and apple vinaigrette, it’s nothing to write a postcard home about, but a good companion dish to a simple, citrussy Coffele Soave Classico ($15/glass) from co-owner Natalie Ng’s interesting wine list.
Service is good, and reasonably attentive given the size of the bar, expertly steering my dining companion away from a natural wine, while still bringing a taster over to assure him he made the right choice. With a strong showing in sherry, Door Knock had left me with enough drinking options for a return visit next time I want respite from the hustle and bustle of Pitt Street.
J. G.
You will experience a curious anticipation during your visit to Door Knock. Think speakeasy...
Everything about the experience from trying to find the entrance, to the 'long walk' to actually being inside and enjoying this hidden gem is great and keeps you guessing.
The food and drinks are on point, wait staff incredibly helpful and the bar tenders will have you navigating the cocktail menu like a pro.
Enjoy!

Very hidden bar. Almost walked past the entrance. It's a journey down a very narrow corridor and a flight of stairs and around the corner at the end of this corridor. You have to knock and ring the bell to be let into the establishment. When you enter, you're let into this vibrant, yet classically dim den like area and greeted by a friendly staff. Pretty good list of alcohol available with decent amount of food to keep you going for the night. Note there's no mobile reception form here though, so best to meet your date on the street level and journey here together. I had the peach cocktail and then the pineapple cocktail. As a pineapple fan, i really enjoyed my second drink. The sweet potato fries were good as well.
S. G.
a little noisy (just a couple of ceiling panels would really help) but a surprising good space with a varied cocktail and drinks list. pretty light on beer options but it's a cocktail bar!
impressrd by the food, and not too expensive. worth a try. busy at 7pm on a Thursday, if it's packed you wouldn't be able to hear a thing anyone was saying.
groovy music fairly friendly staff.
octopus with crackling, miso eggplant (awesome) and salmon.
K. C.
Keen and friendly bartenders, ladies serving on the floor were friendly as well, my cup of water never got empty, they were always around.
Recommend the cocktail named 'down in Mexico', it was the most perfect.
J. E.
It's down in the basement, so it's a cozy place for colder nights, but it gets very loud when it's busy (being all enclosed). Finger food is ok, dinner was pretty good.
Y. M.
Really enjoyed walking down into a “narrow and hidden” entrance. Really chilled vibe with great drinks selection and very friendly staffs. I was particularly surprised to find that despite coming during the weekend with quite a full house I was able to find a spot in the bar where my friends and I could just relax in our own little bubble without screaming to hear each other.
J. P.
Great small bar hidden away down the bottom of a long staircase. Cocktails have interesting names and ingredients. No one answered after I knocked on the pineapple. It was still fun though.
P. R.
Great bar with a really nice vibe and friendly staff. My friend and I sat at the bar and found the bar staff were really helpful in describing the cocktails and food, both of which were very good. I'd recommend the mac & cheese croquettes. Definitely will be back again
S. K.
Couldn’t recommend Door Knock more! Came here for the first time on a Friday night. No bookings were available but someone got back to me right away via email and welcomed us to walk in for a spot at the bar! The staff were lovely and remembered my name all night. They found us a table after 5 minutes! The drinks were excellent and the flavoured popcorn is so good! The venue is lovely and not too loud. Will be back!

Door Knock is a really cool hidden gem in the heart of Sydney. Just walking into the cocktail bar is an experience all on its own. Once you locate the wooden sign near the entry door on Pitt Street, you are greeted by a red rug. These two symbolise the whole atmosphere of the beautiful earthy tones inside. At the end of the short red rug is a flight of stairs and a very long dark corridor, only lit by candles in jars along the wall on the floor. You will then find a sign painted at the end of the corridor telling you to use the door knock and knock three times before you can enter. It all creates a sense of surprise and delight for what’s to come inside. You are then greeted by the host who will seat you in one of the many different areas. You can sit in booths, high stools and tables, or on couches in front of a fire place. The place has a pretty chilled vibe inside and is quite casual. A perfect spot to meet up with friends.

Behind the hidden entrance you’ll find friendly and warm staff and delicious cocktails! Perfect for winding down with one last drink, the place is set up to allow for good conversation.
Love the lounge area.
T. L.
Great service. Lovely vibe. Steak was yum
S. M.
I don’t understand the wait on the street then the wait at the entry door down below, all you need is a radio to the door to let so many people in if so many people leave.
Overall, a slightly higher than usual priced small hidden bar and don’t be fooled by the door knock rules. Great floor service by the ladies, thank you.
M. W.
It may be hard to find but it's well worth the effort. The cocktails are delicious and complex. The service is excellent. The room is welcoming and warm. You must try the mac and cheese croquettes too!
J. J. F.
Awesome atmosphere excellent cocktails great food. Definitely would recommend it. Also it is vegan friendly for food. Wine is stunning. Waiting service was fantastic great awesome vibe here!!
W. D.
Entry is difficult to find and is eerie as you enter the hallway. The ambience inside is very interesting with great decor. Had the set menu, The food was pretty good, service was ok. Felt rushed when all the entrees came out in quick succession even though we weren't finished with the previous 3 that they had placed on the table. Cocktails didn't have enough alcohol in them, maybe it's just me.
J. C.
From the moment we 'knocked on the door' and entered, it was nothing short of exceptional service and a quality time. The atmosphere, location and menu were fantastic, however, it was the staff and their service above all which truly made it an impeccable experience. They were not only incredibly proactive, bur friendly and helpful, often trying gauge and tailor our experiences to ensure we enjoy and have a quality time. The location provided a unique and cosy environment in which not only provided an element of fun and quirkiness but also (in my opinion) enriched the experience given most network services will not work that far underground and as such, promotes you to actually interact and talk with your friends and others- something I feel we can all lose track of sometimes in our all too common busy lives. I would highly recommend this to anyone and will absolutely be returning. Thank you to the staff once again and I hope to be knocking on the door again sometime soon.
N. C.
Super private and secluded. Walk down stairs and along the candle lit corridor and Knock three times. You are warmly welcomed into the atmospheric bar with a great cocktail list and selection of wine with popcorn and water while you choose. I recommend you take any phone addicted friend as they will have to talk to you as there is no reception at this romantic venue!
N. G.
Super cute, quirky and off the beaten path (literally) bar. It's so nice to go to a place and be greeted personally (you have to knock to get in). The decor is homely, stylish and there's a great selection of drinks. They get my vote for favourite new bar.
G. C.
The coolest hidden spot in Sydney! Difficult to find...but so worth it! Make reservations or sit at the bar. Absolutely delicious drinks and amazing food to go along with the neat environment. Great date spot!
M. R.
Wonderful hidden gem in Sydney. Very quite and private venue that is away from the throng of people. A marvelous selection of food with delicious pairings of bourbon and scotch.
O. N.
it’s a really good vibe and a nice place to go for a few drinks. Found that a certain staff member was very rude to the point that I felt uncomfortable being there. Was very understanding that it was busy on a wednesday night but this staff member constantly responded to me in a rude way. Other than that it was a good experience. Would go back if staff was a little nicer.
K. L.
The downright coolness and concept of this place aside, I truly had one of the best service experiences here, ever! Staff were super attentive and so friendly (rare these days) and very playful. They knew their stuff (again, rare) and really did everything they could to ensure we had a great time.
The bar also has a strong cocktail game too and all our drinks came within minutes! And must try is the charcuterie board - aaaaamazing!
W. F.
This place is the best! Staff are always super friendly and accommodating. They go out of their way to make us feel welcome. A few times I’ve had to change my booking as friends change their plans and even during Covid they have found a way to make it work. Drinks are 👌🏿 and there is never an issue requesting a classic cocktail of menu.
This is on my list of must do bars when friends and family come to visit. 💯 recommend!
J. M.
Interesting venue down some spooky stairs, it felt just a little unwelcoming.. maybe because we didn't have a reservation. However the truffle oil popcorn and salad where a great accompaniment to the unique wine and cocktail selection.
A. A.
Cosy little bar tucked away from busy Pitt st. The perfect place for after work drinks and dinner. Good vibes and good food.
M. N.
Long day at work? No worries mate. Food is amazing and tastes like freedom.
B. R.
We visited Thursday night. We were seated right away and felt safe and comfortable. Service was very attentive and helpful. We had the charcuterie board and cocktails. Small cocktail list but other beer and wine options available too. Can’t wait to visit again.
K. J.
Great venue. Cool entry, always friendly staff, not too loud, yet great atmosphere and vibe. Very good bar and variety, with great gin range! Nice food/nibbles too.
C. M.
Great place! Really easy to miss. Friendly staff and great cocktails. Will be back visiting there on all future trips to Sydney.
C. B.
Very cool place, service was amazing and attentive. The cocktail range was diverse and very unique flavours. Truffle popcorn and couch very nice touches
C. D.
Awesome little hard-to-find underground bar! Food and service were excellent, interesting cocktail menu (though we found the cocktails a little too elaborate), delightful atmosphere!
B. C.
Love everything about this place friendly staff and great cocktails.
K. D.
The place is beautiful to go. The drinks.... I don't like too much. They use too much lemon and they don't have sweet drinks with orange or peach. The rest was so nice
B. M.
Super busy so definitely book in advance but the staff were wonderfully warm and accommodating as always and the food and cocktails were spectacular as expected! Thanks for a great night guys!
o. m.
Amazing cocktails and awsome staff!
W. L.
Amazing bar with some good cocktails and beers. Went there on a Saturday night, it wasn’t too busy and the staffs were super friendly.
L. V.
Fantastic atmosphere. My favourite place for after work drinks with my colleagues. The guy on the floor is always super welcoming and attentive. What a legend. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
P. K.
Loved everything about the place - food, drinks, atmosphere, and of course the friendly bartender
M. A.
Went to Door Knock for our anniversary. Love the ambience and the general vibe, food portions weren't the best but the superb bottles of malbec more than made up for it. Will definitely be going back
A. M.
One of my favourite bars in Sydney. Such a great warm, cosy, speak easy bar with a great selection of cocktails. You feel at home here and the food is also really delicious. I highly recommend this spot for a date or hang out with some friends.
J. R. T.
Just brilliant! The wine selection is so fantastic and while the food menu is relatively small it is outstanding. The staff are incredible.
C. V.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great cocktails. Excellent presentation and really comfy couches. Would recommend
A. C.
Great atmosphere and good selection of drinks. Kind of hidden, which make it seems very exclusive.
A. B.
Sophisticated without pretentiousness. They knew their stuff and I had something called a Southside. It is my new favourite Gin Cocktail.
I. R.
Awesome bar. Great vibe, awesome friendly staff and awesome cocktails.
J. D.
Have been coming here for ages, always has the best service, drinks and food (their Chicken wings with Jack Daniels sauce is the cure for cancer). Would recommend 15/10 and definitely will be back! Shoutout to Nat and Max for the continued awesome service!
V. J.
Nice place, bit unique. I understand it's a place that specializes in cocktails, but I just felt like having a beer 🍻 the bartender didn't seem too happy about it! Food was great, fries, wings Mac and cheese were all excellent!
S. M.
Love this place. Went last night with some girlfriends for Xmas dinner and drinks. Food and drinks are great and the service is attentive and really friendly. Will definitely be back in the New Year!
C. N.
Love this kind of place: Norsk Dor is the restaurant version of a hidden bar. The vibe there is great: intimate with great lighting and heavy wooden furniture. The food was great (loved the fish) and they paired it well with some great beer, wines and spirits (of which I partook heartily). The wait staff were on the ball and offered great suggestions. If you like a good mood, great drinks and better food- check this place out. I went there a few nights ago and I'm still talking about it.
G. N.
Great cocktails served in a fun underground space with whimsical pineapple themed decor.
The night we went the service was a bit slow as they only had one waitress looking after about 20-30 covers.
Do, come here for the drinks. Unfortunately don't come here for a feed. The food was over-seasoned and overly complicated.
We still had a great time and will be back for the drinks.
G. P.
I'm not entirely sure how to review this place. It has a lovely, cozy speakeasy vibe, the staff were friendly and helpful, food was good, cocktails were inventive and beautifully presented. It would have been really high on my return list, if not for the fact that in the couple of hours we were there we saw a number of large cockroaches, including on tables. We wrote to the venue to inform them privately, and they responded saying they are aware of and working on the problem, but that the basement location presents a challenge. Hopefully it'll be better in time, but as it stands it was a somewhat distressing experience despite the many positives.
J. D.
Cool, very underground bar with good food and great selection of drinks. Mushroom fries and croquettes are pretty special
B. N.
Amazing service from the exceptionally friendly staff. Delicious boutique cocktails each with an amusing pop culture or ingredient related pun.
Product knowledge is absolutely amazing. Ask the girls for a whisky recommendation and you won't regret it.
D. F.
Fantastic place. Wonderful environment. Great cocktails. Would highly recommend.
J. P.
Everyone should come here at least once, but you'll want to come twice because their cocktail list is sick, one of the most innovative. Great food also. Really nice relaxed vibe.
T. H.
Great atmosphere - a perfect place for dates on the weekdays or groups of mates on the weekends. Cracking cocktail list with a solid food lineup too. I grabbed the 'My Ex Paloma' cocktail and the Chicken Wings, 10/10 would recommend.
G. J.
Cracking little bar hidden away on Pitt Street. You have to go in a door, then walk 100+ metres down a lane and then turn right. There is another door with instructions on how to get in.
Once inside you’ll be seated and staff can help take drink orders.
Great vibe. Plenty of drink choices. And the staff are very friendly!
We had a mezze plate and mac & cheese crochet.
This place is worth the visit. If you can find it.
L. P.
Cool basement bar with a good selection of drinks and nibbles. It has quirky collection of cocktails but you could order the standard cocktails if you prefer. The sweet potato chips was yummy. The way you entert the bar was interesting and make sure you knock loudly!Service was friendly and attentive.Happy to return soon!
J. W.
This place is on point! After checking out a cocktail bar in Surry hills, and having a big fail on food and cocktails, we decided to head to Door Knock to check out the new bar and grab a cocktail. The place was on point! Arriving at the place was very different, walking down the stairwell and up to a door with a large pineapple, knock knock knock, and you're in! The place is very well laid out, great interior designing whoever did this (high five), service was sensational! The guy and girl looking after our area were never far, and were straight onto us as we arrived. The place had plenty of different kinds of seating available; couches, long tables, couple tables, seats at the bar, and more! Its not a huge place, but just right for a romantic cocktail and food, or for a few beers with friends at a hidden underground bar in the city centre.
Door Knock is a must to checkout! I read about it online in a review that was done by Qantas, and me being someone who loves a bar that sets itself aside by being different, this place ticked all the boxes! Loved it, ill be back, and be sure to tell friends to check it out!
H.
Great experience. Took my girlfriend for her birthday, had the venison and the cheese platter, alongside great cocktails. Vibe was good, and our bartender was a really friendly dude - pretty sure he gave us a sneaky discount! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for their new small-bar haunt.
G. G.
Very good atmosphere and nice cocktails
N.
Visited Door Knock on the weekend! Amazing vibes , best customer service. Most quick service I’ve received at a bar. All in all we had the best time. Will be back again :)
F. H.
Very awesome hidden bar and restaurant in the Sydney CBD. We had some share food and cocktails and they were all excellent. The staff was super helpful and friendly, and managed to give excellent recommendations.
Unfortunately the place was almost empty on a Saturday night, even though we couldn't find a fault, so I think some marketing is in order!
G. P.
Was a real treat to find this hidden away restaurant / bar and after the longish walk through the tunnels to get to the main door we were greeted warmly and decided to have a drink at the bar to kick off. We had a couple of Indian Pale Ales and then tried an amazing cocktail called Bancroft inspired by an angry guy in the UK and served in a cognac glass with smoking coffee beans - never seen that before. We had the daily set menu which ended up being a good choice and had plenty of variety with some dishes that I haven't seen before like the bone marrow and venison which I thought was nice and fitted in with the viking theme. I also discovered Mead at this place which if you have never tried is worth the visit on its own.
J. C.
The walk into the bar was the first I’ve ever experienced, reminded me of some Harry Potter vibes. Staff are so friendly and cocktails were yummy!
H.
Really liked this place as it was a bit quirky. A waitress in the restaurant opposite recommended it otherwise we would never have found it.
Dow a set of unmarked stairs and along a long corridor we had to wait after knocking on the door to be admitted.
It was very dimmly lit and had a good atmosphere, very prohibition style.
Unfortunately we didn't think much of the cocktails and on asking one of the barmen to make a White Russian he was unsure of how to make it. He served it overly strong in the end after much faffing about.
R. T.
Amazing food & cocktails in a very secretive place. The whole experience is so fun and very intiment setting.
G. P.
Im totally shook about door knock. Why didn't I find this place sooner? Awesome atmosphere excellent cocktails/wine, great food (vegan friendly) & chilled out vibe. What more could you ask for?Definitely would recommend it. GO!!!! Power Approved 🥂
a. n.
Gorgeous, cozy lounge with fluffy pillows. They offer a very solid wine selection and quirky cocktail list.
It's a long hallway to travel down to but definitely worth the trip!

Let's face it even before Covid Sydney night life was an embarrassment compared with global standards. Lock out laws all but killed any vibe which any major city should have... so when Door Knock opened it quickly became a gem that we can still somehow have a great night out in a friendly and joyful environment. So now we live in the age of Covid Door Knock has become more of a necessity to get the respite I need. Service is always good and attentive. You are never left wanting and it is the people there that makes this hole in the ground special. shout out to Max and the team. I will make one suggestion and that is I would like to see Boss lady Nat often promoted on their socials actually make a drink behind the bar as it is suggested by the posts.
L. S.
Really nice theme and beautiful design. The menu and signature cocktails need some refinement. They were not bad but there was no wow factor. Staff need to be a bit more attentive. They were lovely but when you have to keep asking to be served it gets tiring. I would have spent more money if I could get someone's attention! It would have been ok if they were busy but the place was pretty empty.
A. K.
Quirky mid-sized "small" bar. A bit dim, but unique cocktails and decent food. Would go back if given the opportunity. My friend and I had some of the wings - they were good. Specialty cocktails sat in the typical $20 range.
M. K.
A fabulous place with probably the best customer service out there - friendly, courteous, accommodating! Food was delicious and delivered quickly, size of the meal is great too - you won't leave hungry. Atmosphere and decorations are stunning - very unique, cosy and warm :) If you are still thinking whether to visit this place or not - stop thinking and just go, you won't regret!

Just finished a fantastic lunch at Door Knock... we had the $15 lunch specials, which were surprisingly well prepared and presented - quite delicious.
The wine list is great, without being overwhelming. It is definitely on the more expensive side, but seems to follow up the price with quality.
Oh, and the complimentary truffled popcorn was WAY too more-ish!
t.
Such a cool place with great vibes. The staffs are really friendly with a great wine and cocktail menu.
e.
such a cool bar, love the hidden, secretive element and the cocktails are great.
J. M.
A very good restaurant. I had the set menu. Beautiful flavours, the oysters with the cider granita shone and was the highlight for me; impeccable pairing of beef marrow and fennel; king prawns and creme fraiche was an elegant surprise. The music is cool as was the service. All in all, a lovely place of birthday serendipity where it ticked all the boxes for me.
E. O.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere in Norsk Dor. Really trained staff with always a smile on their face. The food is just delicous and something special well presented. The cocktails are amazing ask for the special! Definitely will be back soon! Thank you Norsk Dor!
F.
When I first heard about Door Knock my initial reaction was " not another underground bar". My partner twisted my arm to check it out and I'm glad she did. Door Knock has a great vibe, amazing cocktail list, yummy food and gas service. If you go, order from the bar and chat to the barmen.... they're good fun.
K. L.
Very interesting place with fantastic atmosphere. Would definitely come back again.
J. W.
Had a great night out with the boys at Norsk Dor! Food and Cocktails were all incredible, and the fit out is spectacular. Highlight of the evening was our gorgeous waitress Madeline, who was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful throughout the night. Can't wait to go back!
C. P.
Dark and mysterious when walking in, cool underground Nordic vibes inside. Beautiful cocktails, food was different often under or over seasoned, never just right 7/10. Music did not pair well and kind of ruined the ambience.
C. E.
The Hip Hopper cocktail was delish 😋 Very creamy (but dairy-free) with nice touches of coconut and chocolate 👌
N. B.
From the moment my friend and i walked in the service was exceptional. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. I seriously cant fault this place. Awesome fit out awesome menu food and cocktail and great service. What more do you want? Maybe awesome corndogs? Yeah well they got that also so get there assp with your peep or you messing up.
T.
Vibing Carribbean atmosphere. Great customer service. Delicious complementary truffle popcorn. Highly recommend!
N. W.
What an amazing restaurant hiding away on Pitt St. Absolutely affable staff who greet you with warmth, guiding you to the bar where the incorrigibly charming bartender takes time to ensure your experience begins perfectly. The beers on tap rival the most boutique of Sydney bars. The wait staff are professiinal and attentive, setting the mood for a beautiful menu. Norsk Dor is worth it for the food alone, but with such great people serving I would make this a fixture.
A. L.
A phenomenal introduction to proper Scandinavian food through a well designed and varied menu, but not too overwhelming or obscure. Great spot for a weekday lunch, although lacking in a little atmosphere given lunch service only started in July 2016 - i went in mid July.
S. X.
Great Find! Walk down the long stairway underground and knock 3 times to find a fantastic spot for Food and Cocktails. Reminds me of the bars in New York. Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
D. L.
Very cool bar, that’s very easy to miss and sometimes hard to find (there’s men’s club next door which can cause confusion). Venture down the stairs and long tunnel to a nondescript door to reach the bar.
Excellent music (funky rnb), great cocktail list, decor and vibe, made even better by the table service (which is pretty good) Easy to get a table on a Saturday night
Because it’s hidden underground at the back of the building there is no phone reception and they don’t provide wifi
C. T. (. T.
This bar is definitely one of Sydney's best kept secrets. The guys behind the bar are friendly and knowledgeable always willing to help choose the perfect drink, the food is delicious and the price is just right and the ambiance is always relaxed and comfortable
K. l.
A great hidden away bar with free truffle popcorn.
The bartenders are all friendly and really wants to engage with you.
The chicken wings we bought wasn't the best for it's price but it's dip is worth trying.
The only downside is that it is no longer too hidden away, with the door being open and having sign for it outside. Great for business but not so much for the concept.
Same goes for knocking three times before entering, it just makes you feel silly when you realise noone is waiting on the other side to open the door. Fyi just open the door and walk right in, it's unlock.
S. M.
Truly a hidden gem in Sydney. Enter through a small doorway, walk down a long hallway, and at the end is a door to the coolest bar in town. Great decor, knowledgeable and friendly bar staff, and a great assortment of reasonably priced food, a must see while in town.
J. B.
Good points:
-Food was delicious.
-Décor is fun and sets the ambiance really nicely.
-For the price, we did not leave hungry – meals are decently proportioned.
-Nice, extensive drinks list.
Not so good points:
-Service was friendly, but sloooooooooow, and a bit too casual, honestly. There was a full table of dirty dishes next to us for a good half hour – there were 2 other tables in the restaurant and we waited 25mins for water….
-The music was super loud and did not fit the space – at all. I’ll listen to anything, but safe to say, most folks who go out to drop over $130 on a meal don’t want to be yelling over Kanye.
All in all would go again, but if I ran into the same ‘not so good’ points, I probably wouldn’t go back.
J. O.
I had dinner with a good friend at a new Scandinavian-inspired restaurant in Sydney called “Norsk Dor”. With my interests in all things Scandinavian, but especially Swedish, she thought it wold be a good place for us to catch up.
“It’s only been open three weeks”, our waiter told us, so aside from a few reviews here and there, I’m guessing it’s getting to be known about, largely, through word of mouth.
“Did you hear the wolves on the way in?”, he also asked us, referring to sound effects you hear as you walk the long corridor you need to follow from the entrance on Pitt Street before you actually get to the restaurant. And then you need to press a buzzer before you get in.
“It’s like the gay bar I visited in Latvia on a Tuesday night”, I told my friend. I then went on to tell her about having to press buttons, secret handshakes and all kinds of weird and wonderful things I encountered during a trip to Riga in 2008. But I digress..
The service, food and wine were excellent.
I wouldn’t call it the most “authentic” Scandinavian experience (more Danish if anything, and the waiters were English and German), I’ve ever had, so don’t go there expecting NOMA-like cuisine, or even anything you might find in the middle of Stockholm. But very, very good.
“It was like Stockholm in the middle of summer”, I told my friend, “full of Germans”.
J. f.
hidden away like a priceless gem. Stuck well to the theme of being hidden and clandestine by making a sort of door knock like code in order to get in. Fantastic interior and the cocktails are reasonably priced and made really well. One of the few speakeasy's in Sydney
J. J.
Came here on a busy Friday night however the staff were very accommodating. Great cocktails and ambience. Easy to find- very well signposted from the main street down the long corridor.
j. t.
Amazing service!!!! Such a welcoming and cozy environment! Perfect for some drinks with company or to impress a loved one!
Found the staff super friendly and informative.
10/10 will be back.
D. K.
Excellent drinks, and great atmosphere. I went here on the recommendation of a friend and absolutely worth the hunt it took finding the venue. Loved it.
S. S.
Norsk Dor is such a fun place. Just finding it is an adventure, stumbling through the dark corridors to the sound of wolves howling ... seriously!
Once you are buzzed in, suddenly you are in a spot that feels like Manhattan meets the Arctic Circle – urban chic meets animal hide.
The cocktails are brilliant! Make sure to try 'The Bancroft' it's performance art meets taste sensation.
The food is solid and has just the right touch of Nordic influence.
Do not miss the wagyu bone marrow with rye, served with Aquavit! We had two servings. My partner prevented me from ordering a third one, pleading potential embarrassment if we had one more serving. But it was so good I regret not having a third one.
I think I will be back for a meal of nothing else but a series of wagyu bone marrow ...
My other stand out dishes were the kingfish two ways, the salmon and pipis in butter broth, the Nordic beef brisket and the venison which was tender and delicious.
The service was excellent and personable, the matching cocktails and wines plentiful and delicious.
M. T.
WHAT A PLACE!!!!! Literally set deep in the underground of Sydney, Door Knock is exclusively special. An amazing selection of cocktails, yummy food and some of the best service in the country. This is a must visit bar if you live or even travel to Sydney!
A. R.
What an experience! It all starts with an off street silver door and as you walk down the dimly lit corridor you are haunted by wolf noises. After making it to the bottom door you have to press the door alarm and as you walk through it feels like you have been transported from Pitt st Sydney to Scandanavia... from there it is all about food and drink choices.. with a set menu of delicious choices to signature cocktails that are second to none! Norsk Dor is about taking a journey and it is absolutely worth the adventure.. Great staff make the experience complete and i would recommend going to anyone!
H. C.
Really nice venue, nice and relaxed atmosphere. Awesome bar staff and helped us out amazingly
J. K.
Very cool "hidden" bar. Definitely a place where you can impress your friends with knowledge of a little know spot before it becomes too popular. Table service and good food. Slightly pricy though.
S. D.
Cool underground restaurant with a cosy and warm interior. Perfect for a rainy winter night. Food was interesting and worth a try, value for money for their set menu but food came out so quickly so felt like they were rushing us to leave.
D. S.
Hello Manager. I entered your establishment tonight and was both whelmed and dissapointed for the following reasons:
1. Its hot as hell in here. I swear the devil was pouring tequila.
2. I knocked and noone answered. I opened the door to no exclusive staff or anything exciting.
3. The rules were on the wall - its not hidden if you advertise it.
I must say the bartender service was exquisite and I did get a table. 3/5 would come again on a weekday.
Love, Darius.
R. S.
Looks like a great place for a drink. Nice decor and service. We went at a quiet time but imagine it buzzes when it is full crowd.
M. C. T.
So good that I'd work here!
M. M.
Awesome venue! Very unique and 'must try'. Quite impressive for a new place in Sydney. Came for drinks, very helpful staff and manager. Will come again!
L. K.
Friendly staff, funky cocktails and food was surprisingly good! I would visit there again and again.
J. F.
Decor, food and drinks all top notch: creative, thoughtful and delicious. Staff and host were 10/10 for friendliness and service. Loved the applause you hear as you walk along the corridor to get in.
K. F.
Good cocktails and atmosphere.
K. S.
Nice bar, hipster cocktails with Suze and Nut Milk ;-)
C. D.
Love this place! The atmosphere is so cozy and the bartenders are very knowledgeable. Would recommend!
D. K.
A little difficult to find the first time. Had to ask the bouncers next door 😉 but when you're there. It is a great little place. Well presented and good for small functions.
D. K.
Definitely my new favourite bar in Sydney. Great menus, friendly service. Cocktails are amazing
S.
tasty cocktails
R. M.
One of the hidden bars in Sydney. You really must to find it, and follow the instructions to get access to it. It is located in a basement, so forgot your mobile network, wich is good to create a momento to talk with your friends and let the technology stand-by.
A. F.
love love love this place! The staff are wonderful. The food is awesome and the cocktails are amazing
G.
Extraordinary cocktails. Atmosphere and overal experience are great. Very good waitresses, helpfull, knowledgable with attention to details.
A. M.
Such an inviting place to enjoy a drink and meal with friends. Staff are friendly and welcoming and definitely know their drinks. 5 stars from me.
K. Z.
Cute place and interesting food.. The beef and hasselback potatoes were amazing and reminded me of the ones I had in Sweden.. but in general the food was quite expensive and the veggie salad was just too sour and the fish soup was too salty.
J. Y.
The cocktails are consistently amazing and the service even better! Oh and don't forget to try the wings
D. W.
Great mix of cocktails. If you want to go off menu, ask for a "last word".
Get a cab first though
M. G.
Fantastic underground restaurant in the centre of Sydney. Its a unique dining experience with knowledgeable and friendly staff members. Highly recommend the Venison!
f. g.
Cosy well hidden bar. Nice layout and staff were friendly and helpful. Could have been about 5 degrees cooler the night we were there.
A. S. I.
This Nordic food trend needs to stop. Venison was raw and the bone marrow disappointing. Nice to walk down an alleyway to get in though. Interesting place.
D. S.
Great food, cocktails and service.
Actually the chicken wings here are the 2nd best I've had in Sydney and the best in any bar.
G. L.
Really cool underground bar with a prohibition style, where you knock on the door to get in. Feels like an old cabin but with Japanese style food. Definitely worth visiting
D. H.
Pretty unique experience. No cellphone reception so just enjoy the moment!
N. S.
Cool entrance, lovely staff and great decor BUT cocktails weak and sugary.
F. C.
Really enjoy spending time here! The food is extremely well priced and super delicious! Would recommend.
A. G.
Loved the table service, loved the vibe and loved the cocktails. Cool new underground bar in Sydney. New fav!
A. J.
Fantastic bar for cocktails. Excellent service.
G. N.
Really cool atmosphere. The food is okay, but for me it was more the restaurant "experience" that cracks the good rating.
E. B.
Very nice bar, but very noisy. The cocktails are amazing and the food too.
C. P.
were going to this spot and the food is still awesome, always the right value! Fast and scrumptious. Highly suggested
D. J.
Great staff. Quality drinks. Cosy environment and not too busy noisy.
M. W.
The food was top quality, but not what I'm used to. They have a daily changing menu to reflect the freshest produce they can get that day, which is an awesome idea!
L.
Love a secret bar. Bartenders had suburb and recommendations
C. L.
The atmosphere is even beyond 5⭐
And the service was amazing, generously! Thank you 🙏🏼

Nimble' Hip' Attention to detail'
Incredible!!!
I will be knocking again, soon!!

The entrance to this place can be hard to find, don't lose a kidney as you descend 2 floors into the basement of Sydney but you will be pleasantly surprised when this bar greets you after the underground experience
N. F.
A hidden gem for sure! Go grab yourself a cocktail; that’s if you can find your way in! PS; Do not knock! Don’t say I didn’t tell you! ;)

Don’t be fooled by the cute-sounding “Bananarama” cocktail. It’s like having your brains smashed out by a banana peel wrapped around a brick.
T. W.
Hands down the best bar in Sydney. Go there now! Right now!
P. N.
Sydney needs more bars like this. Tip: I know it’s a cocktail bar but get the addictive as crack wings.
