Comments of Dove & Olive
W. L.
3.4 - The staff were friendly and helpful but the steak I ordered was pretty bad. It didn't taste fresh and my order of Medium turned up as Well Done. The Mushroom sauce was slopped all over the steak but didn't have much of a taste (The carrots and mash were nice though). The others enjoyed their Parma/Parmy and Beers though so that was good for the others. It was cool that we got to book our tables and enjoyed being out on the terrace!

I booked the Terrace at the Dove & Olive for my 30th birthday and couldn't be happier. The food was amazing and we had a personal drinks waiter who was fantastic and made the night so easy. Would highly recommend!!
K.
This pub punches well above it's weight. Really great staff, nothing but a can-do but casual spirit. Well set out spaces over 2 floors, proper a/c – not too cold. The food and drinks could well be much more expensive. Amazing bottle prices for wine, loads of interesting beers and super generous food portions for the low prices but great quality all the same.
Do yourself a favour and give them a go.
Sunday roasts are really great (you can share one between 2 easily).
M. T.
My partner and I are so happy that we were able to booked Parlour & Terrace area for our wedding reception!
The manager Chris was just so friendly and thoughtful giving us lots of amazing ideas to make our day so special.
It was a small reception but our guests loved their delicious food & great drinks, both inside/outside areas and cozy atmosphere.
We definitely recommend Dove & Olive and will surely come back for our anniversary and our future special occasions!
G. L.
Wow, this place was rocking when we turned up. It was Tuesday and that is their trivia night. No wonder the hubbub. We had a table upstairs and I had a lovely chicken snitzel with mushroom sauce. The trivia was very challenging but fun. Worth a visit 😀
S. Y.
Love this classic pub. Great for Sunday brunch. We came with a big group and sat in their upstairs patio area. Service staff are friendly. Fish and chips, chicken schnitzel and pork belly were excellent, as was the Sunday roast. Will come back again!
K. T.
Really enjoy coming here to chill, eat and drink. Great selection of beer to wet your whistle in comfort and relaxed atmosphere, recommend their locally brewed ales, which go well with a serving of fries. My go-to meal here is the nachos with loaded fries, their unofficial eating challenge ;) Located near and just down from the Surry Hills light rail station - so quite convenient for inner city dwellers and bar hoppers alike.

Fantastic venue! Recenlty had our staff Christmas party in The Terrace - great food, craft beers and fun atmosphere! Thanks Dove & Olive for such a brilliant evening!
D. M.
Visited this place as their parmigiana is ranked as one of the best in Sydney but no such luck - the sauce was warm at best which also made the crumbs soggy. Nevertheless, friendly service at the bar and plenty of beers to choose from. Upstairs is a cool eclectic dining room with historic photos and stuffed animal heads decorating the walls
R. L. R.
As an EA I SO grateful to have organised a small corporate Christmas function very last minute at the Dove & Olive with basically ZERO budget - Chris and his team were amazing and happily accommodated our group. We were really pleased with the space we had(the dining area between the main bar and outdoor area) and the food was served quickly and our larger group orders were prioritised. Thank you to Chris and his team for helping me pull together a great event at the 11th hour. Would happily recommend this venue for a casual corporate get together but also just in general - it is a great pub!

D&G has always had a decent Sunday Roast but my word it's now epic. One of Sydney's best.
The lamb was beautiful, which I'm very fussy about. Excellent veg & most importantly... The gravy was spot on! Sometimes it can be like liquid but this was perfect.
It was also huge, which I struggled to finish & this never happens.
Its a lovely cosy pub with character. Really nice staff. Plays great music. Couple of nice outdoor areas. It also has an excellent craft beer selection, which they change regularly.
Top notch!
S. d. N.
I can only give 3 stars to a place where you have to go outside to hear yourself think.
The staff were wonderful as were the drinks, but the noise. Sydney venues have to start thinking that people want to go out and talk to one another without shouting, if they are at the same table.
R. M.
Great pub for beers 🍺and a cheap meal. The upstairs area is fantastic and retains some old world charm with beautiful stain glass light covers and booth seating.. if you're heading here then definitely head upstairs to sit but order your drinks from downstairs where the beer menu is far more extensive. Be warned this place shuts up by midnight
E. D.
Really nice pub with a decent happy hour!
Roast beef was a real downer though as it was chewy and fatty, potatoes were dry and overall just a bit underwhelming. Gravy, carrots and pumpkin were lovely though.
Friend had the lamb which was a lot better, so maybe I just chose wrong but still pretty disappointing when I had heard such good things. Would go back again but maybe not eat next time!
M. F.
Good beer selection. Just never quite captured me. One of Surry hills better pubs.
B. K.
Absolutely love this pub! Lots of space, a tonne of craft beers on tap and can always find a space to squeeze into. Food is amazing and can highly recommend the roast which changes on a weekly basis. Easy to do bookings for groups or events as well. Just need to live closer to make this a true local!
S. M.
Great pub food, burgers, steaks, fish and chips. I been here a few times for the chicken schnitzel, a big feed
J. W.
The range of beer here is amazing! As well as that the prices are great. The menu looks fantastic. Especially if you're a meat lover! On this occasion i had the Angus burger. It looked incredible. However it was slightly over cooked and the meat was dry. Otherwise, I'd give this establishment five stars! ****
C. F.
Great little gem, delish food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and warm atmosphere...worth a visit
I. H.
Good spot for drinks after work, gets a little noisy downstairs but upstairs is better. Good range of beers on tap
T. M.
Excellent pub with a huge range of beers. Great food. Friendly staff. Dog friendly outside.
M. B. (.
Beautiful pub, locals can get you good few drinks here. But the food not very nice we order sunday roast
A. S.
Best Sunday Roast I've had so far. I used to go to another pub, but for some odd reason they stopped serving food. As a result of that I found this gem. I've had a few Sunday Roast's around Sydney, and this is so far the best. Old fashion and rustic and delicious.
Keep up the great work!
P. d. C.
Not busy on Saturday afternoon. Reasonable menu of food and drink.I had beef pie with mash and peas ... good size portion which was tasty and hot. At A$15 I'd say pretty good value.
Tv monitors need a refresh ... the one near of had a distinctly blue hue.
Has dedicated smoking area outside.
K. C.
A great pub with great specials. Such an array of craft beers on offer with special happy hour craft beer specials and daily food specials what's not to love.
A. K.
Always good. Great staff. Good beers and good pub food. Perfect for catch ups with friends.
B. U.
This is such a great pub. Used to be our work local a while back, before we moved from the area. Really great to visit again as they have an excellent selection of rotating beers on offer. The food is ok, usual pub fare which is better than average. So annoying they're being shut out by the stupid light rail debacle. Visit this pub!! 🍻
L. C.
This was delicious! Corn fritters with hummus and crisped veg with greens. So glad they've made their vegan options known as I work around the corner and this is the pub we frequent for work lunches.
D. B.
Nice pub on Devonshire Street, went for the roast lunch it was great and plentiful will go back again, good atmosphere
B. S.
This is the first time I have visited the Dove and Olive even though I am a local to the area. We were here to celebrate a birthday. We sat downstairs and ate firstly in front of the windows. What a wonderful spot. I had the schnitzel which was absolutely delicious! It was perfectly cooked and nice and thick. The gravy made it even better. After lunch we discovered the bar upstairs. We sat there comfortably enjoying a few gin and tonics. I really appreciated the quality of the glassware It made all the difference!
M.
Very cool old pub and the food tastes good. Their daily deals are worth a try as well. Service is great too. I would totally go back again!
D. L.
The Roast is amazing! The drink specials push this venue to the top of my "Best Sunday Roast in Sydney" list. 5 stars!!!
S. T.
Great service, great selection, great value. What more could you want? Love this place and keep coming back!
T. H.
This is a cool bar food is really good and well priced will definitely be back
M. 2.
Top spot. Music and atmosphere. Good food and a stellar beer line up.
J. C.
Good food, actually quite great. Theres daily specials on food, happy hours from 5 to 7pm on mondays to saturdays. Quite decent area to enjoy company
V. L.
Juiciest chicken schnitzel ive had in soooo long! Amazing! The house cider was pretty dam good too
T. M.
Good pub, loads of unusual beers available. Good staff too.
G. B.
Tremendous beers and a great spot. Very inexpensive too. Highly recommend.
J. L.
Nice little pub.
Hint though:pints and schooners cheaper than jugs on their specials.
S. H.
Great little neighbourhood pub. This place feels like a genuine community pub, with a great selection of craft beers, and friendly service. Right near the light rail and Central Station. And they are great at ensuring everyone stays Covid-safe.
s. h.
This was definitely a good Sunday Roast...we had the Lamb perfectly cooked and very tasty. We will be back 😊😊
O. F.
Went here for a friends birthday and we had a great time. Awesome bar and deco, great craft beer selection and delicious food.
J. A.
Sunday afternoon roast. Great cuts of meat, veggies cooked to perfection. Great selection of tap beers. Kids menu is fantastic as well just as appetizing as the adults meals and very reasonable.
R. I.
But busy, and upstairs could be slightly better laid out. It's also one of those pubs where the tables are sticky when you sit down to eat... Which is strange. I mean, are people spilling screwdrivers all over the tables? Or? Despite the sticky situation, the staff are (mostly) friendly, they like a chat about what's on tap. Oh and you can get mac and cheese spring rolls... Legit! Photo proof has been provided.
C. T.
I went in looking for dinner (and eventually got a rump steak and buttermilk chicken wings).
The space was half full with a lot of small groups of people. Had to order at the bar (no service) and pay upfront (this is reasonable arrangement given order situation)
Everything feel a bit sticky and dirty.
Food was ok, passable but not amazing.
It has got a great pub vibe for drinks and great selection on tap afaict - but unfortunately not what I was looking for.
J. H.
Not bad on a Sunday. Friendly staff and a fabulous chicken and leek pie.
A. N. C.
Dove & Olive. What a great space. Last night I had a party for my sister and brother in law for their baby on the way.
I cannot praise the staff enough. Mid melt downs they were there and so accomadating. To the owner, you've got a great team. Thank you so much, we had the best day 🌈♥️🥳♥️
N. S.
Booked the upstairs 'balcony' area for a surprise night for my wife and had a great night. We were well looked after. The area was perfect, nicely set up and food and drinks options kept the crowd happy.
S. -. T. I. T.
Great outdoor as well as indoor setting.
Very spacious.
Attractive decore.
Many choices for seating. Sofas, chairs, small group, large group etc.
Several suitable places for private functions.
Great staff, very helpful, cheerful and low-key non-intrusive.
Varieties of dishes to choose from a great menu.
Very tasty food preparations.
Moderately priced. Good value for money.
We had a private function :
RAISE THE BAR.
20 Speakers, 10 Bars.
And, this was one of the 10 chosen bar location.
The event was organised by City of Sydney Council and Light Rail in Syrry Hill Precinct.
Speakers were extraordinary, great pioneers in their business field.
Successful and accomplished speakers were very friendly, mingled with all the attendees and their presentations were very very interesting and greatly informative and very relevant in the current situation of the world.
Inclusive ideas put forward by speakers with solid track record and statistics.
N. F.
Good little corner pub. Dog friendly & staff are proactive with bringing water out for pets
8.
Fantastic beers and excellent service. Keen to visit again.
D. U.
Good little pub with an excellent choice of craft beers. Will definitely go back just to see what is new in a few weeks time. Food is good and service is pretty rapid (think we only waited 10-15 minutes from ordering to eating).
F.
Loved the chicken parmy, maybe drinks get it 5 stars but I don’t drink.
M. H.
Great place they have great staff and so delicious Burger.
J. B.
Always a pleasure going to Dove and Olive. The Sunday roasts are always a great meal. Today I had the beef pie with mash and gravy. VERY nice. Service is welcoming and friendly. Thanks guys for another great Sunday Brunch.
J. F.
Great both in winter and summer.. a great hideaway pub from the hectic Surry Hills.
Excellent food, wide range of craft bars and also a good wine menu
L. J.
We just came in for lunch and had the nicest time. Piers looked after us so well, such a nice greeting and with all the restrictions the entire team really worked amazingly and made our visit just flawless. The steak is there with one of the best I have had in Sydney! Beautiful fresh produce, quick service. Honestly well done to the entire team. A genuine pub feel with really professional and personable staff.
Can't wait to be back again soon!
A. L.
A good, classic / traditional local pub vibe with daily specials and a bunch of different beer on tap. The weekly schnitzel special is good and overall food is decent - standard pub grub at a reasonable price.
K.
Great selection of craft beer. Good pub atmosphere. However food was fairly ordinary. The lamb shoulder had never been exposed to smoke, just slow roasted. It was tender and tasted really nice but was falsely advertised as being smoked. Very disappointing. My wife’s burger was was dry-aged and it was exactly that dry and old. I would recommend this pub for those looking for great beer, but I will not eat there again.
k. F.
We've gone there two Sundays in a row to have the Sunday roast. We have tried many in Sydney, and this one is so far the best. Good wine list, and a good range of interesting beers. Love the decor upstairs. and the staff were excellent. We'll be back.
H.
Best food for value I’ve had in my life
J. M.
Had the roast lamb Sunday night. Great lamd, great potatoes, Yorkshire pudding it was fine enough for pub fare, all in all good place for a casual Sunday pub lunch/dinner, would go again.
K. H.
There was a mix up of my order due to menu descriptions but the management of Dove & Olive were so nice about it. They really know how to take care of diners.
K. F.
great place for a Sunday lunch (and other times). The Sunday Roast was superb.
Z. H.
Great pub located nice and near to Central Station. Good selection of local craft beers and the food is fantastic. Great spot for an after work drink.
S. R.
Quirky decor, good food and friendly staff.
M. S.
Good pub vibes, the meals was good value and there is a variety of beer on tap.
P.
Great relaxing place with good food
J. D.
Selection of beers a bit hit & miss but great that there's a variety that changes frequently. Food is tasty and great daily specials.
M. B.
This is exactly the kind of pub I really like! The decoration is old school, so I love it. Really charming. Food is good and not expensive!! They have special discounts on every day on different parts of the menu. Atmosphere is great. Lot of beers from the tap.
C. F.
The pie was absolutely perfect (vegetable pie) a must try CLASSIC!!
P. G.
Classic, old fashioned pub with a big menu of all traditional favourites. From steak to schnitzels, burgers & lots of nibbles to share, there is something to please everyone in big groups or small. The schnitzel was lovely, fish had a nice crunchy coating, steak was over done. Chips are dusted with chicken salt which is addictive. A huge list of beers & staff are friendly and service fast.
I. v. d. P.
Great pub. Good food. Lot's of Craft beers on tap.
R. A.
Non-pretentious local with an awesome upstairs dining area and good range of beers on tap. Great food (and Sunday roast), though not many vegan options.
N. B.
Nice craft beer list, warm vibe. Staff were a little cagey (perhaps I needed to order a beer with my meal?) and seemed to rush getting to my order rather than helping me figure out the menu. The lamb was delicious though the sides were random: carrots, deep fried stuffed peppers, mash and gravy. It didn’t cut the “14hr slow roasted” headline.
R. H.
Usually a fan of this place however today’s experience wasn’t up to expectations. The staff weren’t nearly as pleasant or attentive as other occasions and the serving sizes were small. My chicken schnitzel was about 100g at best. The meal deals are great but if quality and quantities are compromised it’s customers who miss out and give unflattering reviews......
R. A.
Recently brightened up without losing its sense of character. Quite a good selection of beer, one of the best smoking and gaping sections in inner Sydney and not bad food.
S. D.
A great range and variety of craft beers available on tap. The food is reasonable, but very tasty. I had the steak and had food envy as my friend had ordered the beef brisket. A small, but pleasant beer garden out back too.
M.
Food wasn't that great. But the place is nice.
T. O.
Great little local pub. Good meals. There are a bunch of TVs which can be good or bad and a little beer garden out the back. Good selection of craft beers and even the happy hour brew was delicious
S.
Went for Sunday roast. Beef was nice and tender, tasted ok. Large portion of beef and the Yorkshire pud was Ok. Roast potatoes weren't crispy and there was nowhere near enough gravy to go with it, which made the meal a little dry. Fine for a basic Sunday roast, with quick service and value, but nothing special.
A. G.
Delicious food and beer, casual vibe and friendly service. We walked 40 min from Circular Quay to get here and it was worth it. Awesome selection of tap beers and the bartender had good suggestions for other things to check out in Sydney. I had the fish fry and my husband had the Sunday pot roast and both were hearty and delicious. Reasonably priced and you get a ton of food. Fun, chill atmosphere.
J. P.
Visited this place after reading the positive google reviews.
Definitely one of the best pubs in the area. Fantastic pub food at a good price.
Thanks guys. We will be back for sure.
A. L.
Was here Thursday night for their rump steak and $5 schooner. Definitely worth it and would recommend to try it out. The steak was perfectly cooked and the meat was also very tender and seemed like it was good quality meat. They have a bunch of different types of beers to try and the bar tenders are more than welcome to give yoy a free taste before you decide which one to order.
C. C. (.
Love the constantly rotating beer selection at this pub.
Every time I go in there's something new to drink and it just keeps me coming back.
The food selection is just your standard pub grub - nothing special, although they don't claim to be a gastro so I don't expect more from them. $12.90 special meals each week day for an after worker.
It can be loud if you are looking for something low key.
B. L.
This is a great place to go for a value meal in the evening and to choose from a nice selection of beers including their own house beer. It has a nice atmosphere and the meals were great. Went with a bunch of fellow colleagues and it went there several times in fact, it just ketp being the best option for a group dinner.
R. B.
Been here a few times before and always loved it, but last week I suffered a bad head injury and stumbled past the Dove and Olive confused, scared and bleeding badly. Pierce and some others saw me, settled me down and called an ambulance. They handled it so well and I am forever grateful to them! Thanks guys! I will send as many people your way as possible (to eat, not bleeding).
N.
Good beer selection and good pub food with daily specials. Friendly service and crowd. They do a decent Sunday roast although a couple of times I've found the meat can be a little over cooked and dry. Otherwise great for a beer and bite with mates.
t. o.
Went for my first pub meal in the new age here, cooked to prefection steak. Clean and orderly. Staff was on top of everything. Cheers to Piers for sorting us out. Legend!
N. E.
Great local watering hole without all the pretentiousness of a fake speakeasy which is so typically done in Surry Hills pubs and bars. Great place to watch a game and have a drink with mates. There’s also a good pub food menu but if that doesn’t do it for you then there’s good restaurants and cafes right next door.
N. A.
Nice chicken schnitzel on Wednesday!! And a selection of great craft beer!!
J. B.
Fantastic selection of beers. Food's good too - specials throughout the week - worth trying the fried chicken burger. Range of indoor and upstairs spaces (tables, bar, booths) with a small outdoor beer garden.
A. R.
Great little place on Devonshire St. Not bad for pub food and the service is good.. Our food came out quickly and was fresh and warm. Good selection of beverages as well, on tap. Seating is a mix of tables, cubicles and terrace. Good ol rustic look.. I've only done a day visit so couldn't comment on the night atmosphere..
K. H.
Good prices food okay I had the crispy skin pork. The fat could have been rendered a little more and cheddar, cornmeal muffin could have been mixed better, the cheddar sunk to the bottom so it was quite tough on the bottom. Staff appear to be young and trendy communicating by ear pieces or just talking to their friends? No service or smiles unless you go to the bar.
J. H.
Good serving size food + Drinks. We had their chicken, Leek Pie as well as several other dishes as we were in a large group. Good variety of food and great kids menu. Worth giving a go and mentioning friendly customer service from our waiter.
m. a.
Amazing charcoal burger I have had in a while, totally recommend
W. D.
Great food + drink, their food are good serving sizes at worthwhile prices (in particular, their daily/lunch specials). Quick and friendly service. I'd recommend their chicken and leek pie! P.S. their dining space upstairs is top notch, great for parties + big groups!
Z.
Excellent craft beer selections for reasonable prices! Don't miss happy hour before 8pm. I also highly recommend it for events as the bar and staff helped a lot with my birthday. The food goes alright as well! Try the burgers.
M. N.
Awesome schnitty! Good, thick chicken and great gravy and chips. They also have a fair few of their own Dove & Olive drinks, had the cloudy cider and lager and would definitely recommend both. Nice, but quite small, outdoor area too.
C. G.
Always a fun place to go for a drink and some food. We went on a Thursday and it happened to be $5 for schooners. It has a good selection of beers and the food is also decent - especially the snitties. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, good for after work or on a day off.
N. C.
They do roast all weekend, it's a huge plate and they have a vegan option. The roast is good, the service is good, good selection of beers
F. L.
Really nice atmosphere here, a really comfotable pub to spend some time. Bug selection of beers and ales on tap, although some were quite pricey. Food was pretty decent. Great for a big group of friends for drinks or dinner and drinks.
R. N.
Great selection of craft beers but regular beers as well would be nice. Bit pricey but good atmosphere. Bouncer was a bit overzealous...
K. S.
Great local joint with outstanding selection of beers. They even have the stone and wood gatherer beer which is rare! Their prices are a bit on the expensive side however, but it is Surry hills...
Food is a bit better than most pubs, but nothing outstanding given the price .
Cute outdoor area and it is cool on a hot summers day.
D. L.
I have not been into this pub since it has been renovated. Wow what a difference.
Fresh coat of paint, funky furniture and art work has done wonders.
The staff were friendly, and their knowledge of their local beers were impressive.
Yes, you can get your stock standard beer but there were also a few locals on tap.
We ordered a jug of the local artisan beers and it was $20
The food is standard pub grub - but ever so yummy and not too heavy - can't go past a good schnitzel.
Thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and now I am working back around the area - this will become my after work local.
D. V.
Stunning little work horse pub in the heart it surry hills. Their daily food specials are tasty and affordable enough that you can eat two without feeling bad or poor. While their craft beer selection is nothing short of exceptional.
J. K.
Sydney doesn't have enough Sunday roasts. Which is a pity. Both start with S. Both have a Y in them. They are both meaty. Filled with pleasure and laughter.
The dove and olive has a roast. It's roast is remarkable good value. It has house made cider which tastes delicious and it has a good pub atmosphere. I recommend this place.
M. L.
Good variety of craft beer. Be sure to read the special board to find a new, reasonably priced brew to try. Ordering off the cuff can be expensive here. Look for jug specials too, where available. Very busy on a weekend.
P. B.
Great food, only had starters as we wanted a light lunch and we weren't disappointed. The bar itself is really unique and there is great beer on tap! Will be back
D. B.
Delicate, delicious and damn good value for money. I thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips with a side of jalapeno poppers, the portion was big enough to feed a small army for the price of $12.50.
I will finish my review now as i slide into a satisfying and well deserved food coma. Goodbye.
A. G.
Every time I've eaten here for lunch, the food has been great. The bar staff are very friendly and it doesn't get too busy. Jugs of beer range between $10-$17. The menu has a good variety of pub grub, with some decent specials on the board.
S. M.
Great selection of beers on tap, really an awesome variety theres something for everybody! Food is pretty good too, decent value for money with some good specials too and a decent number of choices. Great atmosphere too in a good location, all in all great pub!
D. E.
Went with some families to celebrate our kids graduation. Nice buzz atmosphere. The security guard was a real character and we had some laughs. Food was good for pub food. My only complaint is they had a $10 beer jug special and when I got my credit card bill it was for $16 ??? Not going to change my life but hey guys you owe me a beer.
C. D.
Friday night, place was packed, beer was cold, 80's music was awesome because I am old and I like that kind of stuff. Good beer selection, they have food but I was there to drink. A great Sydney pub.
J. T.
Sunday roast was average, lots of dry meat and very little gravy. The meal wasn't particularly bad but it wasn't good either. I'm sure this place would be good for burger, chips and a few beers but I probably won't go back. The Horse around the corner does a much better Sunday Roast.
M. P.
I've eaten here for lunch during the work week and it gets quite busy - especially on Fridays. Best come early or book ahead if you're coming in a big group. $9 daily specials. I've eaten their steak and their serving size and quality is totally worth your money.
Tip: they have a selection of sauces to try in the back shelf near the stairs going upstairs. They also have a great selection of craft beer.
B. B.
Great local pub. Friendly staff, great food, relaxed vibe...
Coopers. Smoking area.
What else do you want?
R. N.
The Sunday roast was great and massive serving, staff where friendly. I would have given 5 but some of the tables were a bit sticky, not great to have in these Covid time's
J. L.
Great pub food and selection of local craft beers. The waiting times are reasonable and the staff are friendly and very professional. Serving was timely, and they're always attentive to the needs of patrons.
T.
Amazing English style pub with good food and good ale. Good Sunday brunch. But it loses two stars because the meals are underwhelmingly small portions: I’m always left feeling hungry and I’m a medium size male 😣
R. D.
I was there for the happy hour and I loved it! Good selection of booze, bartenders are friendly and nice and food is tasty: the wedges are addictive! The floor upstairs looks really nice, with Viennese style lamps and cute small lights outdoor.
N. F.
Nice relaxed pub vibe, with a good selection of tap beers and suprisingly good range of spirits (considering they specialise in beer). Food was tasty and the service was quick! No faults, had a great time and would return
J. C.
I've been drinking and eating here since when it was called the Clarendon Hotel and it used to be great for lunch or after work drinks.
These days it's called the Dove and Olive and it seems to be going for a more upmarket craft beer and cider vibe. We ate and had a few drinks here and unfortunately it's not as good as it once was.
The $13 pints of cider are stretching the friendship a bit and the steaks were also pretty average. Nothing to complain about but there are better options in Surry Hills if you want your standard pub steak or schnitzel.
I don't know if I'd go back, there's nothing that stands out from the crowd and even if you were a local, there's plenty of other options to choose from.
A. B.
Absolutely love this pub. If you love your craft beers then this is the place for you! Always has a beer of the week for $6.50 which is quite cool. Happy hour prices $4.50 a schooner
N. U. (.
Easy walk from central but also on the tram route. Has my favourite (milk porter) on tap. Great location for large groups. Roast meats menu.
R. J.
What a great spot for lunch, diner, a meeting or just to enjoy the vibrancy of the place. There's a large variety of tap beers that are ever evolving to keep those enthusiasts coming back!
FYI they also have a take away section if you need to take some drinks away. For such a busy area, Surry Hills lacks a decent bottle shop!
G. B.
Found them on a website saying best Parma in Sydney and they did not disappoint. We also had a steak (scotch fillet) and the quality was excellent. Service was friendly. Very happy
G. C.
Stopped in for a weekday lunch, and was impressed. Wednesday's special is $9 steak with chips and salad, and while it was not huge (what can you expect for 9 bucks though), it was really tasty. Great selection of craft beers, for typical Surry Hills prices.
S. M.
We had our Christmas in July meal here which was fantastic. The meals all came out together and the food was delicious and wonderfully presented along with the table decorations. The only downside, for me, was the lack of any Christmas music.
A. N.
Really cosy little pub with great food and beer. The steak was cooked perfectly and we were also offered samples of the different beers. Only drawback is that the people were quite noisy. Strangely the music wasn't loud so I don't know why people had to talk so loud in there.
S.
26 Taps of local brew and good feed on nightly specials. Great venue space upstairs close to central station. Parking can be difficult as is in thick of inner city residential. Bar staff friendly and educative.
A. K.
A better than your standard pub. Good food, great beers on tap and above all a really good vibe. Gets a nice buzzy feel (even when you're not buzzed yourself). Great place to check out for Anzac day, they do a good two-up.
D. R.
Great bar with a spectacular range of craft beers on tap.
M. L.
The sticky short rib was good.... The spring slaw had coriander in it though..... So.... Not so good... Haha... Service and ambience was fine. For a Sunday night roast. The boys loved their roast (beef) had all the trimmings.
The salted caramel tart was good. The raspberry sauce cuts the richness well
S. W.
Smart bar, wooden themed. Reminds me a little of an Irish Bar in the style but is not grubby like some of those bars are. Decent food menu, very good choice of craft ales on tap. Small outdoor area at the back.
C. W.
Was at the Dove & Olive over the weekend and as always, loved it! I had the melt in your mouth sticky beef short rib and washed it down with a few of my favourite craft beers. My lunch couldn't have been better. Looking forward to going back soon.
M. V.
A good pub for a Friday lunch or drinks with a standard selection of cheap menu options and a fantastic range of beers. Ask the staff if you can't decide - they change the range often. Most of their beers are worth trying.
K. G.
Big variety of pub food on the menu which is delicous and quick.
Big selection of craft beers on tap and always have new brews in to try.
12 beers of christmas was an awesome promo!
Great place for a work lunch or after work bevvy.
D. B.
Have been to the Dove and Olive many times and it never disappoints. A cosy atmosphere ranged with a huge selection of craft beers which makes it a standout from other such establishments. The Sweet potatoes wedges are to die for and the paprika calamari is one of my favourites. If your looking for a friendly place to meet or for a corporate event I would definitely consider the Dove and Olive
M. D.
Busy venue with good variety of cocktails and drinks.. Happy hour is 5-7pm. They also have a variety of different types of Martini Espressos.
B. M.
Highly recommend Tuesday trivia upstairs. Easy walk from Central to the pub, good food and good selection of beers on tap.
Be mindful that it gets super busy on weekends when there's footy on at Moore Park.
C. S.
Fantastic pub, with great food and drink selection. Quite a frequent hang out for lunch and drinks after a long day at work. Can get very busy on a Friday night.
D. S.
Great selection of drinks, nice menu (hasn't changed in a while though) but way too much smoke coming in from the smoking areas. Why bother trying to meekly separate the smoking area if the entire pub is going to stink of cigarette anyway?
N. S.
Great pub with a huge range of craft beers. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy and the food was excellent. We had a good time and the staff is very friendly and professional.
s. m.
Surprisingly good and way better than last time i went a few years back. Good job guys. The menu is big, simple, properly written and well executed. It's pub food but was good - beef rib recommended
C. H.
Good atmosphere, great selection of local beers. Food quality is sub par though, small portions and bland (have had the cheeseburger, schnitzel etc)
A. D.
Happy Hipster and Locals Boozer locked in the Heart of Surrey Hills. On week days you will find it full of young workers from surrounding companies. Full of Ales to quench your thirst. Food is great. 2 levels including smoking out the back and lounging up stairs. Solid boozer.
J. W.
Acoustics are terrible in here - even when half empty the noise is overbearing. Great selection of craft and local beers. Food is varied, large in size, looks great but is a little bland.
S. K.
Delicious food, great atmosphere
S. B.
A large choice of beers, nice happy hours and the food is cheap and good ! They have German beers for Oktoberfest that are awesome 🍻
A. D.
We hosted a function upstairs in the Terrace and Parlour at Dove & Olive recently and it was a huge success. The event and bar staff were super easy going and helpful, the pricing is great, the food, drink and music is awesome and the venue itself is really cool and fun. We had a ball and I would recommend to anyone.
r. 9.
Location, decor and beer on tap is top notch just a shame the kitchen is not. Got the scotch fillet only for it to be luke warm and chewy, expect that from a $10 special not a full price steak.
J. S.
Lovely pub with a lot of craft beers on tap. Good music and great atmosphere. You can enjoy food and drinks in the bar area, upstairs where it's a bit quieter or in the back, outside or inside.
L. “. W.
A great selection of beers covering an enormous range of tastes. Ordered pie for a late Sunday lunch which tasted great but unfortunately was not heated through. Hopefully a one off as I'd like to visit here more often.
K. G.
Sunday roasts are amazeballs! Good vibe here & great selection of craft beers too 🍻
H. S.
Great value, pub food is awesome. I eat here at least once a week and it never disappoints. Love the lamb shank, falls right off the bone.
They also support the community through charity sponsorship, made a contribution to several movember teams.
Ps, stocks Mary Sharp's Belize hot sauce
P. C.
A short up hill walk from Central station, this pub is fantastic and well worth a visit. Every time I've been here the staff and happy, the beer is great and the food is super tasty. Easy to find somewhere to sit and enjoy a friends company or a good book.
C. M.
Great food, great atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Happy hour $5 house beer and wine and $10 cocktails from 5-7 daily
A. B.
Good food. Great place to stop on the way to the SCG for a beer and a feed before the game
D. R.
Great selection of beer, a really nice menu and a friendly casual vibe. You must try the slow meats part of the menu they are delicious (just note they are very filling so skip the nibbles)
A. P.
Ever changing selection of beers and reasonably priced too. Staff are friendly, helpful and lack the arrogance of other craft beer joints. Food is really good as well
V. F.
Nice afterwork bar with a good range of beers and some tasty food. They have some good special everyday (I like the burger on thursday and the roast lamb on sunday). The place is always pretty full of people with a great atmosphere, no matter what day you go in.
T. M.
Always good in the front bar there.
T. U.
Awesome place for a great beer and feed. Craft beer menu has some very solid selections both on tap and in bottles. Food is always fast and good quality. Highly recommended.
W. L.
Good beers and meals. Loving the new menu.
S. A.
excellent stake for $12 !!!
best value in Sydney,
hidden gem
R. M.
Busy place with a decent beer selection (it's saving grace), very crowded and loud (Saturday night). Food took ages to arrive, which is to be expected on a busy night... But basically everything in the snacks menu has chilli on it and when it did arrive it was rather disappointing.
P. M.
Great atmosphere and super friendly staff, meals were served quickly and good value. Will definitely be back when in the area.
E. T.
I'm not wowed and I'm not upset. It just is what it is: a slightly below average pub capitalising on a great location. Why stress out about food, decent wine and a cute beer garden when the masses are going to come in their droves anyway?
C. G.
Popular gastropub with excellent food. Recommend the Sunday roast and the chicken schnitzel. Great range of beer. Nice dining area upstairs including large booths.
N. S.
Always satisfied with their upmarket pub grub, from fixes to mains...On the weekend downed a Jalapeno Burger with a Pilsner, sensational…Very quick service.
Awesome vibe and amazing wine & beer selection – Highly recommended
L. B.
This place has amazing pub food.
They're menu is packed full of awesome options and really different cuisines. Its also really reasonably priced. Really basic nice pub atmoshere thats not too pretentious which is also really great. I'd 100% recommend heading out to this place for a meal.
m. f.
Arrived in on monday arvo ordered the parmy with slaw and chips for $19, was dissapointed at the chicken portion and that there was no slaw just a basic leafy salad with just the greens otherwise not so bad but should advise customer before orders of changes to meal.
W. L.
Hands down some of the best pub food in Sydney. Great location, good beer and atmosphere. One of my favourite go to’s.
B. B.
Firstly, it must be said that the staff are lovely, inclusive and friendly which is always nice. Have been here when it has been crazy busy, but just now is a lovely, quiet post-Christmas summer afternoon with the cricket on the telly and it's just as good. Nice, unpretentious local.
P. E.
Busy and lively pub. We had the $10 steak - generous serving sizes and great steak. Much better than some $15 offers I've had. Definitely will be back.
G. M.
Really nice place and great for organising either a big group or just a few, but from my experience, the food was below average. Tough overcooked steaks and burgers which just weren’t great.
C. J. A.
Excellent venue. I booked our work christmas party here and the staff were well organised, attentive, the meals came out on time and there were no issues whatsoever. On top of all of that everyone said the food was top notch. I highly recommend this venue for casual dining / drinks or a team event.
K. C.
Typical Surry Hills pub. Outside seating is great esp in the afternoon, dog friendly.
S. A.
Always busy at dinner time in the Dove & Olive. Menu has a range of options. I had Greek Salad with Chicken which was good. Solid neighbourhood pub with a restaurant upstairs. Reasonably priced.
R. H.
Great venue and the staff were so lovely. Everybody went above and beyond to accomodate to our every need to make our event amazing! Cheap food with great variety that the whole office loved.
A. E. C. M.
Great pub with a very wide selection of crafted beers. The atmosphere is good, unfortunately the staff hasn't been as great the few times I have been there but well.... Might be bad luck for me
D. L.
Was there many time for different celebration. It's a nice place located in central area. They have special everyday and the yummy food is in decent portion. Would recommend for a casual drink or lunch
I.
Fast service and the food was beautiful 👌🏼 I tried the fritters and they were very yummy and tasty. The atmosphere is very welcoming and comfy. Overall would recommend and will definitely come here again 👍🏼
R. T.
Great selection of beers on tap. The bar and dining area aren't very well laid out and moving around the place can feel a little bit awkward. Great watering hole.
D. C.
Situated between Central and the Moore Park precinct this is the perfect place for a pre-event drink or snack. There is a wide selection of beers, wine and spirits, plenty of seating, kitchen serving decent meals or snacks, and outdoor seating.
A. G.
Best selection of beers in Sydney, including regular cheap schooners of Paddo.
Great food, daily specials.
Best pub to meet in before 10-15 min walk to the SFS/SCG.
Flawless. And it has 2 floors.
N. R.
Pleasant staff and a nice environment let down by lukewarm food.
A. A.
An okay pub with okay service and the whole pub is needing an upgrade, the carpets were black in parts! Food is a high quality but don't go there on a date. There are parts of the place that just smell bad!
C. O.
Very good beer selection downstairs. The food was not bad. I will definitely be back. Really good atmosphere for hanging out and just drinking a few beers.
M. L.
Not specific to D&O, but a trend of late which allows most tables to be reserved is making it difficult to visit these venues without planning ahead. This pub is popular, but without a reservation it's difficult to get a table. I miss the days when it was first-in first-served.
T. W.
Great beers that seem to change weekly, and tasty food. Sometimes hard to find a seat if you want to eat so get there in decent time.
N. Y.
Very slow customer service at the bar. Food was nice. Variety of beers.
B. T.
Great selection of beers and the food was good. Only problem was Tuesday night they block upstairs for trivia night so you have to order your drinks and food at the bar.
L. B.
One of my favourite places to have a beer with my friends. Usually crowded, which is the downside, but well located and with plenty of options to drink and eat. Don't miss their week specials.
C. C.
Amazing barz great beers, prices are definitely up there.
G. J.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff especially when busy. Food inconsistent. Great venue if you're interested in craft beers which all are similar in taste
M. M.
Good food. Good atmosphere. Central location. Easy to find if you want to meet up somewhere with friends. Use public transport, cabs and Uber to get there because parking is not readily available.
M. T.
The Sunday roast is brilliant for a good feed and a good nap. Their craft beer collection is also mind-blowing – So. Many. Choices.
B.
Excellent food. These guys so run/own the Keg and Brew and they have the same quality food. Had the ribs and they were excellent. Also tried the pizza which was very tasty.
V. S.
A really great atmosphere. International Bar range. Great sized TV for all your sports entertainment. State of Origin here is a fantastic night!
J.
Quite a cool place, decent selection of beer. Quietens down early on a week night but good for after work drinks.
Pub quiz on a Tuesday. Read that as presented.
E. K.
Came here for the trivia Tuesday night and love it. The food is delicious. We got the Po Boy which was the special on Tuesday and it was delicious. The trivia was quite entertaining too and we all had a good evening.
L. S.
Great food. Large selection of craft beer. Friendly staff. Great cocktails. Will go again and again.
I. F.
Limited range of food, drink and room. I didn't enjoy the expresso martin I had , not much of a coffe taste. Music was a bit to loud and made it hard to have conversations.
i. 2.
We were there for a function upstairs. Great cozy place for 40 ppl. Food was good and the staff accommodated for a family friendly function. Very pleased
S. N.
Good location - unexpectedly peaceful and quiet neighbourhood (although parking can be hard to find but right next to the light rails) with fab food and friendly staff!
S. C.
Busy and vibrant. COVID safe too as I write this. Great selection of beers on offer. Will be back.
S.
Good pub. Gets pretty busy with after work drinks, although upstairs was much quieter. Food was really good.
J. G.
Good food and beer. Very nice service everytime I've been.
N. M.
The Sunday roast is amazing!
A. H.
Nice and quiet when I was there. Solo many craft beers and the friendly bartender let me taste-test the beers. Beer-lover's heaven!
A. J.
Great steaks here and some interesting craft beer
L. (.
Always nice to have a quick dinner and a fresh beer at dove and olive!
Nice staff
Thank you
D. E.
Great selection of beers. Good food. Had dimmi promotion so food was 50% off. So it was excellent value. Prices without the discount were ok.
S. B.
Huge selection of craft beers on tap. Bargain food nights. Beautiful meals. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend
P. F.
The Dove & Olive had a great beer selection and Tap Takeovers. Food servings are OK. It's a very busy place and it can be heard to get a seat.
L. A.
Love this place. Delicious cauliflower salad! Staff are great. Excellent range of beers too.
H. H.
Great little pub, cheap food but good quality. So many beer options as well. Good for any occasion.
M. A. M.
Lots of craft beers on tap. The place can get really busy but always good for a beer or two when walking to Moore park.
P. W.
Lots of beers on tap, relaxed. Good specials through the week. Great rustic style sweet potato chips
B. K.
Yummy beers and Sunday roast. Natchos and Mac and cheese spring rolls were a highlight. The ambiance is classic Aus pub style.
A. B.
Great beer selection, knowledgeable bar staff, great food. Gets busy but can usually find a table without a booking.
N. V. (.
Mad chill local spot, house beers are cheap and really good!!
S. H.
Nice vibe but waste of time on food. $16 later and a disappointing plate of three small and seriously average fritters plopped in the middle of a plate where the 'salad' was a few mung beans thrown on top... that's it. C'mon guys.
J. L.
Great selection of craft beers on tap - something for everyone. Nice, friendly staff. Good atmosphere.
W. F. E.
It was lively and jam packed.
We sat down and my friends settled for cider. I had my typical vodka cranberry. We sat around chatting about travelling in areas of Korea and Japan. Our drinks rested on a record which was funky. The decore was trendy full of children of the 90's.
We snacked on potato gems which were attempting to be fancy. They were tasty but titled " D&O Tater Tots Parmesan mashed potato poppers with
house made mixed pepper, celery salt & aioli". The aioli was nice but I wasn't a fan of the mixed pepper and celery.
Will come back to try other food
D. J.
Great place for a work lunch. Get's a bit hot upstairs so watch out in the Summer... Otherwise an easy choice if you work in the area. Nice decor.
J. L.
Fairly good selection of beer. Can get busy at times.
G. R.
Excellent selection of draft beers. Staff is very friendly and professional. They have a variety of tasty pub grub to compliment the selection of beers.
G.
Nice Food... Nice Place... Nice Environment...
J. P.
Nice pub. Busy trivia night.
I wouldn't recommend the buttermilk wings, it was dry batter and the spicy sauce comes on the side.
C. F.
Great local pub, great craft beer selection
M. W.
Really good beer selection. The food isnt always brilliant but is never bad
V. K.
A huge thanks to Chris, the best management ever specially during the Covid-19. The most delicious burgurs. Highly recommended 👌
K. K.
The Dove and Olive has trivia on Tuesday nights and it's worth coming just to listen to the host's endless commentary in between each question. If you are sensitive to swear words then you won't like it, but I think he is entertaining and just bloody f*#cking funny as h*ll! The questions come at a decent pace and there are 'who am I' questions in between each round with the opportunity to win free beers.
The food here is also great - try the steak or the salmon or the po boy special.
L. O.
Great venue, with fantastic food! Staff were so helpful and accommodating prior to the event and on the night. Could not recommend this enough!
T. W.
Great selection of beer and serving good food late (until 10pm). Fast service and a good vibe. This is a great pub.
Z. B.
Often really busy at lunchtime and the staff can be a little standoffish but the food is varied, delicious and good value for money. Their burgers are particularly excellent.
A. O.
Great pub wuth loads of beers to try. Has lots of areas to habg out. Gets busy on friday with work crowd. The food is tasty!
A. W.
Get the nightly specials if you can to get the best value, although food shouldn’t be the main purpose of the visit - their craft beer selection is incredible and the bartenders have great knowledge to point you in the right direction.
S. A.
Great food and amazing beer selection. Kids friendly. For parents who need a break...
L. L.
Not sure if management has changed but the beer list is horrendous... Reschs on tap at the Dove & Olive? Travesty! To top it all off a Stone & Wood beer was the most crafty on tap for $11 a pop... Not cool!
G. B.
One of the best pub in Surry Hills with actual good and affordable meals AND nice & cosy atmosphere. I wish we were only a few to know this place it would make it less busy!
A. T.
Cute pub with lots of space upstairs for big/private groups. The vegan cauliflower dish is delicious!
L. P.
Great selection of beers. Good food and very reasonably priced. Great place to stop on the way to the SCG
N. N.
Cool pub with nice indoor areas and a cool balcony. Big selection of beers and food is quality, especially given how cheap it is
J. P.
Inexpensive and tasty lunch meal options. Friendly staff. Decent selection of draft beer ( some can be pricey )
M. J.
Great selection of beers. Pretty crowded on a Thursday/Friday evening. Good food at lunch time.
M. T.
Really enjoyed the Dove & Olive, great food and a brilliant selection of beers!! Some lovely food. Famous for their parmys!
C. M.
Decent pub, local craft beers, good pub food, shame it attracts hipsters. Slightly overpriced but that's the area, you can charge a premium.
q. n.
Large variety of craft beers, very popular in the afternoons. Sometimes hard to find a seat due to the popularity of there evening drink and food specials
D. W.
One of my favourite pubs around Surry Hills. Lots of pub grub, a wide range of beers, and just pretty chilled vibes.
L.
Pretty solid beer selection. Upstairs is great for parties; be sure to make a booking well in advance though.
H. P.
Good selection of beers, very busy on night of footy. Food was a bit average, but fast service
A. K.
Cool bar. Tends to get rammed on Friday evenings after work. Good selection of craft beers and staff who know what they are talking about.

A. O.

P. L.
First time shopped here, found all I needed, layout good
S. P.
Great selection of beer and spirits, but best of all are the smoked meats. Generally crowded but a nice bunch
R. M.
Great place for good value food and drink.
R. G.
Relaxed ambience, really friendly barman, fabulous selection of beers. You can ask to try before you buy. Excellent.
D. G.
there is about 1 bazillion types of beer here. And the bar staff know their stuff. and the food is huge and good
B. D.
Great food. Actual craft beer and rotating taps. Plenty of space including upstairs. I go here often.
G. H.
It's an ok pub, the upstairs area is really nice and secluded. Staff are friendly but food was average and really small Servings
J. L.
Fantastic pub. Great selection of beers on tap and lovely food - the Sunday roast is awesome :)
N. A.
Love this place - especially the beer selection and in house beer specials.
J. L.
So crowded and drinks are pretty weak here, that stairs is definitely not friendly for people who are slightly immobiled... Fatty like me puffed out just walking to the pub from the nearby slopes!
T. D.
Excellent beer selection. Was there during happy hour and it was packed and loud but the wait for a drink at the bar was minimal.
J. L.
Perfect local pub for a Friday lunch with the team.
Has a wide range of local beers and $12.50 lunch specials
N. N.
This pub has the most amazing menu. Bit busy and noisy but well worth it with the friendly staff.
M. B.
Solid pub food and a warm atmosphere.
A.
Great steak, beer and atmosphere! Plus no ponies...so a real old school pub vibe!
J. W.
Lots of beers great beers which is a plus, unfortunately didn't get to try the food, the kitchen open 'til late' is actually until 9:30 or so...
V. L.
Good simple selection of Food. Plenty of drinks to choose from. Always crowded. If you planned to dine in, book before hand.
h. k.
Quiant little place has descent quality food but a good selection of house brews
H. B.
Noisy, crowded, seating was adequate but uncomfortable. Lounge upstairs area floods in heavy weather.
R. M.
Great, creative menu. Definitely order the calamari. Scotch fillet with cauliflower mash is top notch! 👌🏽
J. L.
Great selection of beers and good food options, I had house smoked beef brisket which was excellent.

F. J.
Good beer selection. Great burgers.
P. P.
Love this place. The best thing about the dove and olive is the huge selection of beer on tap. Food is also good.
E. W.
Service was great, but the steak that I had was a bit on the tough side. Hopefully a once off. Food that the other guys had was pretty good.
S. G.
I have been to a couple of Trivia nights here (Tuesday) and they are fantastic and I would highly recommend it. The food is good though I have not gone further than the pizza and wedges.

The staff are human, and put their customers first. Love it. I wish it was my local.

J. B.
